Having seen his sword cut in two, he grasped a great mace and sent it towards Sahadeva; but that mace fell uselessly to the ground.

Then, greatly enraged, Śakuni, son of Subala, sent forth a very terrible spear (śakti) towards the Pāṇḍava, Sahadeva, like the upraised Night of Dissolution (Kālarātri).

Sahadeva, as if laughing, suddenly cut that descending spear (śakti) into three pieces with his gold-adorned arrows in battle.

That gold-adorned spear (śakti), severed into three pieces, fell to the ground, shattering just as brilliant lightning indeed falls from the sky.

Seeing their power (śakti) shattered and Saubala (Śakuni) afflicted by fear, all your warriors, accompanied by Saubala (Śakuni), fled when fear arose.

Then, a great shout was raised by the Pāṇḍavas, who were shining with victory. Consequently, almost all the Dhārtarāṣṭras turned away, becoming disheartened.

Indeed, seeing them disheartened, the mighty son of Mādrī (Sahadeva) checked them in battle with thousands of arrows.

Then, Sahadeva, in battle, approached Saubala (Śakuni), who was advancing, protected by the Gāndhāra warriors and by his horses from behind, and who was intent on victory.

O King, recalling his remaining grievance (karma) against Shakuni, Sahadeva advanced in his chariot, which was adorned with gold. He powerfully strung his very great bow and repeatedly drew it.

Enraged, he (Sahadeva), having rushed towards Shakuni (Saubala), struck him intensely with his stone-sharpened, vulture-feathered arrows, just as one would strike a great elephant with goads.
