The Blessed Lord said: "To you, who are free from envy, I will now declare this most profound secret: this knowledge (jñāna), together with direct realization (vijñāna), by knowing which you will be liberated (mokṣa) from all misfortune."

This is the sovereign knowledge, the sovereign secret, the supreme purifier. It is directly perceivable, in accordance with natural law (dharma), very easy to perform, and imperishable.

O scorcher of foes (parantapa)! Persons who lack faith (śraddhā) in this natural law (dharma), failing to attain Me, return to the path of death and transmigration (saṃsāra).

By Me, this entire universe is pervaded in My unmanifest form. All beings are situated within Me, yet I am not contained within them.

5.
Nor are the beings truly abiding in Me. Behold My divine mystic power (yoga)! Though My Self (ātman) sustains all beings, it does not actually reside within them.

Just as the great, all-pervading wind always remains in the sky, so understand that all beings are located in Me.

O son of Kunti, at the end of a cosmic cycle (kalpa), all beings enter My nature (prakṛti). Then again, at the beginning of a cosmic cycle (kalpa), I emanate them forth.

Taking hold of My own nature (prakṛti), I repeatedly emanate this entire multitude of beings, which are helpless and subject to the power of (prakṛti) nature.

And these actions (karma), O Dhanañjaya, do not bind Me, for I remain seated as if indifferent, unattached to those actions (karma).

Under My supervision, nature (prakṛti) produces all moving and unmoving things. Because of this cause, O son of Kuntī, the world repeatedly revolves.

However, O Pārtha, the great souls (mahātmā), who take refuge in My divine nature (prakṛti), worship Me with undivided minds, knowing Me as the imperishable origin of all beings.

Those who know the three Vedas (traividyāḥ), who drink the soma juice, and whose sins are purified, worship Me with sacrifices (yajñaiḥ) and pray for passage to heaven. Having attained the meritorious world of Indra, they enjoy in heaven the divine pleasures of the gods.

They, having enjoyed that vast heavenly realm, re-enter the mortal world when their merit (puṇya) is exhausted. Thus, those who follow the ritual constitution (dharma) of the three Vedas, desiring worldly pleasures, attain a continuous cycle of coming and going (saṃsāra).

23.
O son of Kunti (Kaunteya), even those devotees (bhakta) who, endowed with faith (śraddhā), worship other deities, they too worship Me alone, but not according to the prescribed rules (avidhipūrvakam).

24.
Indeed, I am the enjoyer and also the Lord of all Vedic rituals (yajña). But they do not truly know My intrinsic nature (tattva), and therefore they fall back (cyavanti) into the cycle of saṃsāra.

Those who are devoted to the gods go to the gods; those who are devoted to the ancestors go to the ancestors. Those who worship spirits go to the spirits. And those who worship Me also come to Me.

Whoever offers Me a leaf, a flower, a fruit, or water with devotion (bhakti), I accept that devout offering from a person of purified self (ātman).

27.
O son of Kunti, whatever you do, whatever you eat, whatever you offer in Vedic ritual (yajña), whatever you give, and whatever austerity (tapas) you practice, do that as an offering to Me.

28.
Thus, you will be liberated from the bonds of action (karma) that bear good and bad results. With your self (ātman) united by the discipline (yoga) of renunciation (saṃnyāsa), you will become completely free and come to Me.

29.
I am equal to all beings; no one is disliked by me, nor is anyone especially dear to me. But those who worship (bhakti) me with devotion (bhakti) - they are in me, and I am also in them.

30.
Even if a person of very wicked conduct worships me with exclusive devotion, he should certainly be considered righteous (sādhu), for he has indeed resolved correctly.

31.
Quickly he becomes a soul whose natural law (dharma) is righteousness and attains lasting peace (śānti). O son of Kunti (Kaunteya), declare firmly that my devotee (bhakta) never perishes.

32.
For, O Pārtha, taking refuge in me, even those who may be of sinful birth - women, Vaiśyas, and likewise Śūdras - they too attain the supreme goal.

33.
What then, of pious Brahmins and devoted royal sages? Having attained this impermanent and sorrowful world, you should worship Me.

34.
Fix your mind on Me, be My devotee (bhakti), worship Me, and offer obeisances to Me. You will surely come to Me, having thus united your inner self (ātman) and making Me your supreme goal.
