The Pāñcālas and also the Kurus, fighting each other, were indeed consecrated for the great realm of Yama and the next world (paraloka), implying they were ready to die.

Just as the midday sun scorches with its rays, similarly your son was tormenting (the enemy) in the midst of battle with waves of arrows.

The Pāṇḍavas were unable to confront (Bhārata) in battle. They were enthusiastic for retreat, but lacked enthusiasm for victory over their enemies.

The Pāñcālas ran about, being slain by your great-souled son, the archer. The Pāṇḍava soldiers, quickly tormented by arrows with golden shafts and keen tips, fell down.

Having struck Satvata with five arrows, and the sons of Draupadi (draupadeya) with three each, and having pierced Ghatotkacha in battle, he roared like a lion.

And he cut down hundreds of other warriors, along with their elephants, horses, and chariots, in battle with fierce arrows, like the enraged Destroyer (Antaka) destroys living beings (prajā).

O venerable one (māriṣa), as he was striking down those enemies, the eldest Pandava (pāṇḍava) broke his great, gold-backed bow into three pieces with two broad-headed arrows.

And he pierced him with ten well-aimed, sharp arrows. All those arrows, having penetrated his vital spots, then broke and entered the earth.

Then, the greatly delighted warriors surrounded Yudhiṣṭhira, just as the gods surrounded Purandara (Indra) after the slaying of Vṛtra.

Then, O respected one, King Yudhiṣṭhira dispatched an exceedingly irresistible arrow towards your son in battle. Severely pierced by that [arrow], he sank down into his excellent chariot.

O respected sir, a fierce roar of arrow sounds was heard there. Then, Drona quickly became visible in that battle.

The swift Panchalas, eager for the kingdom, rushed forward to meet him. Drona, desiring to protect the foremost of the Kurus (Duryodhana), intercepted them, just as the sun(s) dispels clouds agitated by fierce winds.

Then, O King, a great and greatly intensifying battle took place between your forces (Kauravas) and the enemies (Pandavas), who had gathered with a strong desire to fight.
