O King, in response to that command of the (other) king (Yudhiṣṭhira), the Pañcālas and the Somakas advanced upon Droṇa himself, uttering terrifying roars.

But we (Kauravas), indignant and roaring back at them, advanced to confront them in battle with all our strength, enthusiasm, and courage.

Kṛtavarmā, the son of Hṛdika, rushed towards Yudhiṣṭhira, who was intent on killing Droṇa, like one maddened elephant (charging) another maddened elephant.

Then Duryodhana himself, in battle, fearlessly advanced towards Bhīmasena, who was approaching like Antaka (death) with his mouth wide open, thereby inviting his own death.

25.
O respected one, the very enraged Kṛtavarmā, however, cut the bow of the son of Dharma (Yudhiṣṭhira) with a broad-headed arrow and pierced him with seven [other arrows].

Then, the son of Dharma (Yudhiṣṭhira), taking another bow, struck Hārdikya (Kṛtavarmā) with ten arrows upon his arms and chest.

But Mādhava (Kṛtavarmā), O respected one, having been struck in battle by the son of Dharma (Yudhiṣṭhira), trembled with rage and afflicted [him] with seven arrows.

Those fierce [arrows], having pierced his golden-adorned, very valuable armor, entered the earth, just as serpents enter an anthill.

In the mere twinkling of an eye, he took another bow and struck the Pāṇḍava with sixty arrows and the charioteer with nine arrows.

O best of the Bhāratas, the Pāṇḍava, who possesses an immeasurable spirit (ātman), having put down his great bow on the chariot, hurled his serpent-like spear (śakti).

That great, golden-adorned spear (śakti), hurled by the Pāṇḍava, having completely pierced his right arm, entered the surface of the earth.

At this very moment, Arjuna, again taking up his bow, showered Hārdikya with arrows that had bent shafts.

Then, in the battle, the heroic chief charioteer of the Vṛṣṇis (Hārdikya/Kṛtavarman) made Yudhishthira's chariot devoid of horses and a charioteer in half a moment.

Then, the eldest Pandava (Yudhishthira) took up his sword and shield. But Madhava (Krishna), in the battle, struck down those (sword and shield) of his with sharp arrows.

Then, Yudhishthira, indeed taking a formidable, golden-shafted javelin, quickly dispatched it in battle towards Hārdikya.

37.
Hārdikya, a skilled archer, as if smiling, swiftly cut into two that approaching arrow which had been released from the arm of Dharmarāja (Yudhiṣṭhira).

38.
Then, greatly enraged, he showered Dharmaputra (Yudhiṣṭhira) in battle with a hundred arrows. And with sharp arrows, he tore his (Yudhiṣṭhira's) armor.

O king, that armor of the great-souled one (Yudhiṣṭhira), torn apart by Hārdikya's arrows, shattered in battle like a multitude of stars falling from the sky.

With his bow broken, chariot-less, his armor shattered, and afflicted by arrows, Dharmaputra Yudhiṣṭhira swiftly withdrew from the battle.

But the mighty Kṛtavarmā, having defeated Yudhiṣṭhira, the son of Dharma (dharma), then again protected Droṇa's battle formation (cakra).
