Vaiśaṃpāyana said: At night, Vidura spoke to him, who had eaten and was now rested: "Your arrival here, O Keśava, is not a well-considered plan."

2.
O Janārdana, he (Duryodhana) is foolish, prone to anger, and disregards both material prosperity (artha) and natural law (dharma). He disrespects others' honor while desiring honor for himself, and he transgresses the teachings of elders.

3.
O Janārdana, Dhṛtarāṣṭra's son (Duryodhana) transgresses the scriptures of natural law (dharmaśāstra), is dull-witted, evil-minded, and has become utterly obstinate. He is incorrigible, sinful, and averse to what is truly beneficial.

He is dominated by desires, and considers himself wise, a betrayer of friends, and suspicious of everyone. He is inactive, ungrateful, has abandoned natural law (dharma), and is fond of pleasing falsehoods.

This person, afflicted by these and many other flaws, will not accept what is truly beneficial, even if it is explained by you, due to his intense fury.

O Madhusūdana, having beheld the royal multitude of armies, that foolish and unwise boy considers himself to have achieved his goal (kṛtārtha).

It is indeed certain that Karṇa alone is capable of conquering opponents. However, the ill-intentioned son of Dhṛtarāṣṭra will not attain peace.

His mind dwells extensively on Bhīṣma, Droṇa, Kṛpa, Karṇa, Droṇa's son (Aśvatthāmā), and Jayadratha; it does not turn towards peace.

O Janārdana, the Pāṇḍavas are certainly not capable of contending with the sons of Dhṛtarāṣṭra, including Karṇa, along with Bhīṣma, Droṇa, and Kṛpa.

"Nothing proper should be returned to the Pāṇḍavas by us" - this is their firm resolve. Therefore, among them, (your) words would be meaningless.

O Madhusūdana, where both well-spoken and ill-spoken words are considered the same, a wise person should not speak there, just as a singer would not sing among the deaf.

O Mādhava, it is not appropriate for you to speak among those who are ignorant, foolish, and without any sense of decorum, just as a twice-born (dvija) person should not speak among outcasts (cāṇḍālas).

Duryodhana, foolish and deluded, stands amidst the elephant divisions and the chariot-and-horse-drawn forces. Now free from anger, he believes, 'This entire earth has been conquered by me.'

22.
Dhritarashtra's son hopes for an undisputed, great kingdom (mahārājya) on earth. No peace (śama) whatsoever is found in him; he considers his objective (artha) as already secured, like something bound and delivered.

This earth, ripe for destruction (kālapakvā) and overturned for Duryodhana's sake, has all its warriors and kings assembled, united with other rulers, eager to fight the Pāṇḍavas.

O Kṛṣṇa, all these kings were formerly made hostile and demoralized by you. Now, due to fear of you, these heroes, well-united with Karṇa, have taken refuge with the sons of Dhṛtarāṣṭra.

All these warriors, having abandoned their lives (ātman) with Duryodhana, are assembled to fight the Pandavas. O hero, descendant of Daśārha, if you were to enter their midst, that is not my wish.
