वैशंपायन उवाच ।
पाण्डवैः सह संयोगं गतस्य द्रुपदस्य तु ।
न बभूव भयं किंचिद्देवेभ्योऽपि कथंचन ॥१॥
1. vaiśaṁpāyana uvāca ,
pāṇḍavaiḥ saha saṁyogaṁ gatasya drupadasya tu ,
na babhūva bhayaṁ kiṁciddevebhyo'pi kathaṁcana.

1. Vaiśampāyana said: Drupada, having formed an alliance with the Pāṇḍavas, felt no fear at all, not even from the gods.
कुन्तीमासाद्य ता नार्यो द्रुपदस्य महात्मनः ।
नाम संकीर्तयन्त्यस्ताः पादौ जग्मुः स्वमूर्धभिः ॥२॥
2. kuntīmāsādya tā nāryo drupadasya mahātmanaḥ ,
nāma saṁkīrtayantyastāḥ pādau jagmuḥ svamūrdhabhiḥ.
2. kuntīm āsādya tāḥ nāryaḥ drupadasya mahātmanaḥ nāma
saṃkīrtayantyaḥ tāḥ pādau jagmuḥ svamūrdhabhiḥ
2. Those women belonging to the great-souled Drupada, having approached Kuntī and invoking her name, bowed at her feet with their own heads.
कृष्णा च क्षौमसंवीता कृतकौतुकमङ्गला ।
कृताभिवादना श्वश्र्वास्तस्थौ प्रह्वा कृताञ्जलिः ॥३॥
3. kṛṣṇā ca kṣaumasaṁvītā kṛtakautukamaṅgalā ,
kṛtābhivādanā śvaśrvāstasthau prahvā kṛtāñjaliḥ.
3. kṛṣṇā ca kṣauma-saṃvītā kṛta-kautuka-maṅgalā
kṛtābhi-vādanā śvaśrvāḥ tasthau prahrā kṛtāñjaliḥ
3. And Kṛṣṇā, clad in silk garments and having performed auspicious rites, stood humbly with folded hands after paying her respects to her mother-in-law.
रूपलक्षणसंपन्नां शीलाचारसमन्विताम् ।
द्रौपदीमवदत्प्रेम्णा पृथाशीर्वचनं स्नुषाम् ॥४॥
4. rūpalakṣaṇasaṁpannāṁ śīlācārasamanvitām ,
draupadīmavadatpremṇā pṛthāśīrvacanaṁ snuṣām.
4. rūpa-lakṣaṇa-saṃpannām śīlācāra-samanvitām
draupadīm avadat premṇā pṛthā āśīrvacanam snuṣām
4. Pṛthā lovingly spoke words of blessing to her daughter-in-law Draupadī, who was endowed with beauty, auspicious marks, excellent character, and good conduct.
यथेन्द्राणी हरिहये स्वाहा चैव विभावसौ ।
रोहिणी च यथा सोमे दमयन्ती यथा नले ॥५॥
5. yathendrāṇī harihaye svāhā caiva vibhāvasau ,
rohiṇī ca yathā some damayantī yathā nale.
5. yathā indrāṇī harihaye svāhā ca eva vibhāvasau
rohiṇī ca yathā some damayantī yathā nale
5. Just as Indrāṇī is with Harihaya (Indra), and Svāhā with Vibhāvasu (Agni), and Rohiṇī with Soma (the Moon god), and Damayantī with Nala...
यथा वैश्रवणे भद्रा वसिष्ठे चाप्यरुन्धती ।
यथा नारायणे लक्ष्मीस्तथा त्वं भव भर्तृषु ॥६॥
6. yathā vaiśravaṇe bhadrā vasiṣṭhe cāpyarundhatī ,
yathā nārāyaṇe lakṣmīstathā tvaṁ bhava bhartṛṣu.
6. yathā vaiśravaṇe bhadrā vasiṣṭhe ca api arundhatī
yathā nārāyaṇe lakṣmīḥ tathā tvam bhava bhartṛṣu
6. Just as Bhadrā is with Vaiśravaṇa (Kubera), and Arundhatī with Vasiṣṭha, and just as Lakṣmī is with Nārāyaṇa (Viṣṇu), so may you be with your husbands.
जीवसूर्वीरसूर्भद्रे बहुसौख्यसमन्विता ।
सुभगा भोगसंपन्ना यज्ञपत्नी स्वनुव्रता ॥७॥
7. jīvasūrvīrasūrbhadre bahusaukhyasamanvitā ,
subhagā bhogasaṁpannā yajñapatnī svanuvratā.
7. jīvasūḥ vīrasūḥ bhadre bahusaukhya-samanvitā
subhagā bhoga-saṃpannā yajñapatnī su-anuvratā
7. O auspicious one, may you have living sons and heroic sons, be endowed with much happiness, be fortunate, enjoy many pleasures, be a true partner in (yajña), and be ever devoted to your husbands.
अतिथीनागतान्साधून्बालान्वृद्धान्गुरूंस्तथा ।
पूजयन्त्या यथान्यायं शश्वद्गच्छन्तु ते समाः ॥८॥
8. atithīnāgatānsādhūnbālānvṛddhāngurūṁstathā ,
pūjayantyā yathānyāyaṁ śaśvadgacchantu te samāḥ.
8. atithīn āgatān sādhūn bālān vṛddhān gurūn tathā
pūjayantyā yathānyāyam śaśvat gacchantu te samāḥ
8. May those years always be attained by one who properly honors arriving guests, virtuous people, children, elders, and also teachers (guru).
कुरुजाङ्गलमुख्येषु राष्ट्रेषु नगरेषु च ।
अनु त्वमभिषिच्यस्व नृपतिं धर्मवत्सलम् ॥९॥
9. kurujāṅgalamukhyeṣu rāṣṭreṣu nagareṣu ca ,
anu tvamabhiṣicyasva nṛpatiṁ dharmavatsalam.
9. kuru-jāṅgala-mukhyeṣu rāṣṭreṣu nagareṣu ca
anu tvam abhiṣicyasva nṛpatim dharmavatsalam
9. In the foremost states and cities, including Kuru-Jangala, you should consecrate yourself, following (the footsteps of) a king who is devoted to (dharma).
पतिभिर्निर्जितामुर्वीं विक्रमेण महाबलैः ।
कुरु ब्राह्मणसात्सर्वामश्वमेधे महाक्रतौ ॥१०॥
10. patibhirnirjitāmurvīṁ vikrameṇa mahābalaiḥ ,
kuru brāhmaṇasātsarvāmaśvamedhe mahākratau.
10. patibhiḥ nirjitām urvīm vikrameṇa mahā-balaiḥ
kuru brāhmaṇasāt sarvām aśvamedhe mahā-kratau
10. Make over all the earth, which has been conquered by mighty lords through their valor, to the brahmins during the great horse sacrifice (aśvamedha).
पृथिव्यां यानि रत्नानि गुणवन्ति गुनान्विते ।
तान्याप्नुहि त्वं कल्याणि सुखिनी शरदां शतम् ॥११॥
11. pṛthivyāṁ yāni ratnāni guṇavanti gunānvite ,
tānyāpnuhi tvaṁ kalyāṇi sukhinī śaradāṁ śatam.
11. pṛthivyām yāni ratnāni guṇavanti guṇānvite
tāni āpnuhi tvam kalyāṇi sukhinī śaradām śatam
11. O virtuous lady, O blessed one (kalyāṇī)! May you, happily, obtain for a hundred years all those precious jewels (ratnāni) that are found on earth.
यथा च त्वाभिनन्दामि वध्वद्य क्षौमसंवृताम् ।
तथा भूयोऽभिनन्दिष्ये सूतपुत्रां गुणान्विताम् ॥१२॥
12. yathā ca tvābhinandāmi vadhvadya kṣaumasaṁvṛtām ,
tathā bhūyo'bhinandiṣye sūtaputrāṁ guṇānvitām.
12. yathā ca tvā abhinandāmi vadhū adya kṣauma-saṃvṛtām
tathā bhūyaḥ abhinandiṣye sūta-putrām guṇānvītām
12. Just as I congratulate you today, O bride, clad in silken garments, so too shall I again congratulate the virtuous daughter of a charioteer (sūta).
ततस्तु कृतदारेभ्यः पाण्डुभ्यः प्राहिणोद्धरिः ।
मुक्तावैडूर्यचित्राणि हैमान्याभरणानि च ॥१३॥
13. tatastu kṛtadārebhyaḥ pāṇḍubhyaḥ prāhiṇoddhariḥ ,
muktāvaiḍūryacitrāṇi haimānyābharaṇāni ca.
13. tatas tu kṛtadārebhyaḥ pāṇḍubhyaḥ prāhiṇot
hariḥ muktāvaiḍūryacitrāṇi haimāni ābharaṇāni ca
13. Then, Hari (Kṛṣṇa) sent to the Pāṇḍavas, who had by then taken wives, golden ornaments studded with pearls and cat's eye gems.
वासांसि च महार्हाणि नानादेश्यानि माधवः ।
कम्बलाजिनरत्नानि स्पर्शवन्ति शुभानि च ॥१४॥
14. vāsāṁsi ca mahārhāṇi nānādeśyāni mādhavaḥ ,
kambalājinaratnāni sparśavanti śubhāni ca.
14. vāsāṃsi ca mahārhāṇi nānādeśyāni mādhavaḥ
kambalājinaratnāni sparśavanti śubhāni ca
14. Mādhava (Kṛṣṇa also sent) costly garments from various countries, and auspicious, soft-to-the-touch blankets, hides, and jewels.
शयनासनयानानि विविधानि महान्ति च ।
वैडूर्यवज्रचित्राणि शतशो भाजनानि च ॥१५॥
15. śayanāsanayānāni vividhāni mahānti ca ,
vaiḍūryavajracitrāṇi śataśo bhājanāni ca.
15. śayanāsanayānāni vividhāni mahānti ca
vaiḍūryavajracitrāṇi śataśaḥ bhājanāni ca
15. And also, various splendid beds, seats, and conveyances; and hundreds of vessels adorned with cat's eye gems and diamonds.
रूपयौवनदाक्षिण्यैरुपेताश्च स्वलंकृताः ।
प्रेष्याः संप्रददौ कृष्णो नानादेश्याः सहस्रशः ॥१६॥
16. rūpayauvanadākṣiṇyairupetāśca svalaṁkṛtāḥ ,
preṣyāḥ saṁpradadau kṛṣṇo nānādeśyāḥ sahasraśaḥ.
16. rūpayauvanadākṣiṇyaiḥ upetāḥ ca svalaṅkṛtāḥ
preṣyāḥ sampradadau kṛṣṇaḥ nānādeśyāḥ sahasraśaḥ
16. Kṛṣṇa also bestowed thousands of well-adorned servants from various countries, who were endowed with beauty, youth, and dexterity.
गजान्विनीतान्भद्रांश्च सदश्वांश्च स्वलंकृतान् ।
रथांश्च दान्तान्सौवर्णैः शुभैः पट्टैरलंकृतान् ॥१७॥
17. gajānvinītānbhadrāṁśca sadaśvāṁśca svalaṁkṛtān ,
rathāṁśca dāntānsauvarṇaiḥ śubhaiḥ paṭṭairalaṁkṛtān.
17. gajān vinītān bhadrān ca sadaśvān ca svalaṅkṛtān
rathān ca dāntān sauvarṇaiḥ śubhaiḥ paṭṭaiḥ alaṅkṛtān
17. (Kṛṣṇa also sent) well-trained and excellent elephants, and well-adorned good horses, and tamed chariots embellished with beautiful golden banners.
कोटिशश्च सुवर्णं स तेषामकृतकं तथा ।
वीतीकृतममेयात्मा प्राहिणोन्मधुसूदनः ॥१८॥
18. koṭiśaśca suvarṇaṁ sa teṣāmakṛtakaṁ tathā ,
vītīkṛtamameyātmā prāhiṇonmadhusūdanaḥ.
18. koṭiśaḥ ca suvarṇam sa teṣām akṛtakam tathā
vītīkṛtam ameyātmā prāhiṇot madhusūdanaḥ
18. And so, Madhusudana (Kṛṣṇa), whose nature (ātman) is immeasurable, sent them millions of pure gold, which had also been refined.
तत्सर्वं प्रतिजग्राह धर्मराजो युधिष्ठिरः ।
मुदा परमया युक्तो गोविन्दप्रियकाम्यया ॥१९॥
19. tatsarvaṁ pratijagrāha dharmarājo yudhiṣṭhiraḥ ,
mudā paramayā yukto govindapriyakāmyayā.
19. tat sarvam pratijagrāha dharmarājaḥ yudhiṣṭhiraḥ
mudā paramayā yuktaḥ govindapriyakāmyayā
19. Yudhiṣṭhira, the king of natural law (dharma), received all that, filled with supreme joy and with the desire to please Govinda (Kṛṣṇa).
