Lomasha said: When the god Shatakratu (Indra) saw Mada, who had a terrifying face, approaching as if the god of death (Antaka) with his mouth wide open, ready to devour, he (Indra)...

2.
With his arms stiffened from fear, repeatedly licking the corners of his mouth, the king of gods (Indra), tormented by fear, then spoke to Chyavana.

3.
O descendant of Bhrigu, these two Ashvins will be worthy of Soma from today onwards. O Brahmin, I speak this true word to you.
न ते मिथ्या समारम्भो भवत्वेष परो विधिः ।

4.
Let this great undertaking of yours not be in vain. And I know, O sage among Brahmins (viprarṣi), that you will not cause it to be fruitless.

5.
These two Aśvins have been made worthy of the soma offering by you today. However, your prowess (vīrya) should manifest again, O Bhārgava.

6.
And thus, may the fame of Sukanyā and her father spread throughout the world. Therefore, this manifestation of your prowess (vīrya) was arranged by me. Hence, show me your grace, and let this be as you wish.

7.
After Śakra (Indra) had spoken thus to the great-souled Chyavana, that anger (manyu) quickly vanished, and he released Purandara (Indra).

8.
O King, the powerful Chyavana then distributed the previously created intoxicating vice (madam) to drinking, women, gambling, and hunting, repeatedly.

9.
Thus, having set aside Mada (intoxication/arrogance) and having appeased Śakra (Indra) with Soma, and having caused that king to perform a Vedic ritual (yajña) for the deities, together with the Aśvins...

10.
Having thus proclaimed his prowess (vīryam) throughout all the worlds, he, the best among speakers, enjoyed himself in the forest with the devoted Sukanyā.

O king (rājan), this lake (saras) of his, which resounds with the calls of the twice-born (dvija), shines brightly. Here, you, together with your brothers, should propitiate the ancestors (pitṛs) and the gods.

12.
O protector of the earth (mahīpāla), O descendant of Bharata (bhārata), having visited this lake known as Sikatākṣa, and having reached the Saindhava forest, go see the canals (kulyā). O great king (mahārāja), also touch the water (jala) in all the Puṣkara lakes.

O Yudhiṣṭhira, the Ārcīka mountain is indeed a dwelling place for the wise; it always bears fruit, has perpetual streams, and is an excellent abode for the Maruts. Furthermore, these hundreds of sacred shrines belong to the gods.

Here, on Mount Arcika, the gods and ancestors, along with great sages, constantly reside and performed severe austerities (tapas). Therefore, O Yudhishthira, you should worship them.

O King, this is that Yamuna river, revered by multitudes of royal sages, sanctified by countless performances of sacred offerings (yajña), holy, and dispelling the fear of transgressions.

Here, King Mandhata, the great archer, himself performed sacred offerings (yajña). Also, Sahadeva, the son of Kunti, and Somaka, who was the foremost among donors, performed sacrifices.
