Seated on that mountain peak, he of astonishing prowess, whose nature (ātman) is immeasurable, gazed upon the directions with his various faces. Perceiving various states, he roared again.

28.
Upon hearing his roar, many people fell down in various ways. Frightened and with agitated minds, they sought refuge in him alone.

29.
But those people of various social classes (varṇa) who had taken refuge in that deity, the Brahmins then declared them to be his extremely powerful attendants.

30.
But that mighty-armed one (mahābāhu), having risen and consoled those people, drew his bow and discharged arrows upon the great white mountain.

31.
With his arrows, he pierced Mount Krauñca, the son of Himavat. Through that opening, swans and vultures now travel to Mount Meru.

32.
That mountain, completely shattered, fell while crying out loudly with mournful sounds. But when it had fallen, other mountains roared intensely out of fear.

33.
Even having heard that roar of the greatly distressed powerful ones, he, the foremost among the strong and one of immeasurable spirit (ātman), was not agitated. Instead, he lifted his weapon (śakti) and roared.

34.
Then, that mighty weapon (śakti), thrown by that great-souled one (mahātman), forcefully pierced the formidable peak of Mount Śveta.

35.
That distressed Mount Śveta, struck by him, along with its associated peaks, flew up abandoning the earth, terrified of that great-souled one (mahātman).

36.
Then the earth, greatly distressed, shattered all around. Afflicted, she approached Skanda and subsequently shone with renewed strength.

37.
And the mountains, having paid homage, returned to the earth. Then, the people (or 'this world') began to worship Skanda on the fifth day of the bright (lunar) fortnight.
