1.
Vaiśaṃpāyana said: Having understood the opinion of his brothers and of the wise Nārada, King Yudhiṣṭhira spoke to Dhaumya, who was like his grandfather (Brahmā).

2.
By me, that tiger among men (puruṣa), the victorious, whose valor is true, the mighty-armed, he of immeasurable spirit (ātman), has been sent away for the sake of acquiring weapons.

3.
Indeed, he is heroic, devoted (to us), and capable, O possessor of asceticism (tapas)! He is also very skilled in weapons, just like Lord Vāsudeva (Kṛṣṇa).

4.
Indeed, O Brāhmaṇa, I know these two Kṛṣṇas (Kṛṣṇa and Arjuna), who are valiant destroyers of enemies. Similarly, the mighty Vyāsa also knows them. They are the lotus-eyed pair, Vāsudeva and Dhanañjaya (Arjuna), existing through three ages.

5.
Nārada also knows this and has always praised me. Similarly, I too know the two sages, Nara and Nārāyaṇa.

6.
Thinking "he is capable," I sent Arjuna forth. This son of a god, who is not inferior to Indra and is powerful, was dispatched to see Indra and to obtain weapons from him.

7.
Bhīṣma and Droṇa, who are great warriors (atirathas), along with Kṛpa and the invincible Droṇi, were chosen by Dhṛtarāṣṭra's son for battle. All of these mighty individuals are learned in the Vedas, are brave heroes, and are also skilled in the use of weapons.

And he, the mighty one who always desires to fight with Pārtha (Arjuna), is Karṇa, the son of a charioteer, who is skilled in divine weapons and is a great warrior (mahāratha).

He (Karna), whose strength is like the swiftness of horses and the wind, whose arrows are his flames, whose palm-slaps (on his bowstring) are his roars, whose dust is his smoke, whose weapons cause great torment, and who is agitated by the wind (support) of the Dhārtarāṣṭras (Kauravas)...

10.
...just as the fire of cosmic dissolution (yugāntajvalana), released by Time (kāla), will certainly consume this dry grass of my army; there is no doubt.

That great cloud of divine weapons (Arjuna), stirred by the wind (influence) of Kṛṣṇa, bearing white horses like cranes and shining brilliantly with the Gaṇḍīva (bow) like a rainbow...

12.
This Arjuna, risen like a cloud, will extinguish the blazing fire of Karna, which is constantly ignited by streams of arrows, in battle.

That conqueror of enemy cities, Bibhatsu (Arjuna), will directly and truly obtain all divine weapons from Indra.

My opinion is that he alone is sufficient for all of them. Indeed, there is no counter-action or retaliation against him in battle for the enemies.

But, O best among bipeds, without that hero, we cannot properly attend to our affairs in this Kāmyaka forest, even with Kṛṣṇā (Draupadī).

O brahmin, please tell us, for indeed, residing in this Kamyaka forest is not pleasing to us without Arjuna. We will go towards another direction.
