सूर्य उवाच ।
नैष देवोऽनिलसखो नासुरो न च पन्नगः ।
उञ्छवृत्तिव्रते सिद्धो मुनिरेष दिवं गतः ॥१॥
1. sūrya uvāca ,
naiṣa devo'nilasakho nāsuro na ca pannagaḥ ,
uñchavṛttivrate siddho munireṣa divaṁ gataḥ.
1. sūryaḥ uvāca | na eṣaḥ devaḥ anilasakhaḥ na asuraḥ na ca
pannagaḥ | uñchavṛttivrte siddhaḥ muniḥ eṣaḥ divam gataḥ
1. sūryaḥ uvāca eṣaḥ na devaḥ na anilasakhaḥ na asuraḥ na ca
pannagaḥ eṣaḥ uñchavṛttivrte siddhaḥ muniḥ divam gataḥ
1. The Sun said: 'This one is neither a god, nor Agni (the friend of the wind), nor a demon, nor a serpent. This is a sage (muni), perfected in the vow of gleaning a livelihood, who has ascended to the sky.'
एष मूलफलाहारः शीर्णपर्णाशनस्तथा ।
अब्भक्षो वायुभक्षश्च आसीद्विप्रः समाहितः ॥२॥
2. eṣa mūlaphalāhāraḥ śīrṇaparṇāśanastathā ,
abbhakṣo vāyubhakṣaśca āsīdvipraḥ samāhitaḥ.
2. eṣa mūlaphalāhāraḥ śīrṇaparṇāśanaḥ tathā
abbhakṣaḥ vāyubhakṣaḥ ca āsīt vipraḥ samāhitaḥ
2. This brahmin (vipra) subsisted on roots and fruits, ate withered leaves, and lived only on water and air, remaining deeply absorbed (samāhita).
ऋचश्चानेन विप्रेण संहितान्तरभिष्टुताः ।
स्वर्गद्वारकृतोद्योगो येनासौ त्रिदिवं गतः ॥३॥
3. ṛcaścānena vipreṇa saṁhitāntarabhiṣṭutāḥ ,
svargadvārakṛtodyogo yenāsau tridivaṁ gataḥ.
3. ṛcaḥ ca anena vipreṇa saṃhitāntarābhiṣṭutāḥ
svargadvārakṛtodyogaḥ yena asau tridivaṃ gataḥ
3. And this brahmin (vipra) extensively hymned the Vedic verses (ṛcas) within the (Vedic) compilations. Through his endeavor to open the gates of heaven, he ascended to the celestial realm.
असन्नधीरनाकाङ्क्षी नित्यमुञ्छशिलाशनः ।
सर्वभूतहिते युक्त एष विप्रो भुजंगम ॥४॥
4. asannadhīranākāṅkṣī nityamuñchaśilāśanaḥ ,
sarvabhūtahite yukta eṣa vipro bhujaṁgama.
4. asannadhīḥ anākāṅkṣī nityaṃ uñchaśilāśanaḥ
sarvabhūtahite yuktaḥ eṣa vipraḥ bhujaṃgama
4. O serpent king (bhujaṃgama), this brahmin (vipra) possessed an unattached intellect, was free from longing, constantly lived on gleanings and grains found among stones, and was devoted to the welfare of all creatures.
न हि देवा न गन्धर्वा नासुरा न च पन्नगाः ।
प्रभवन्तीह भूतानां प्राप्तानां परमां गतिम् ॥५॥
5. na hi devā na gandharvā nāsurā na ca pannagāḥ ,
prabhavantīha bhūtānāṁ prāptānāṁ paramāṁ gatim.
5. na hi devāḥ na gandharvāḥ na asurāḥ na ca pannagāḥ
prabhavanti iha bhūtānāṃ prāptānāṃ paramāṃ gatim
5. Indeed, neither the gods, nor the celestial musicians (gandharvas), nor the demons (asuras), nor the serpents (pannagas) are capable of hindering those beings who have attained the supreme state in this world.
नाग उवाच ।
एतदेवंविधं दृष्टमाश्चर्यं तत्र मे द्विज ।
संसिद्धो मानुषः कायो योऽसौ सिद्धगतिं गतः ।
सूर्येण सहितो ब्रह्मन्पृथिवीं परिवर्तते ॥६॥
6. nāga uvāca ,
etadevaṁvidhaṁ dṛṣṭamāścaryaṁ tatra me dvija ,
saṁsiddho mānuṣaḥ kāyo yo'sau siddhagatiṁ gataḥ ,
sūryeṇa sahito brahmanpṛthivīṁ parivartate.
6. nāga uvāca | etat evaṃvidham dṛṣṭam āścaryam
tatra me dvija | saṃsiddhaḥ mānuṣaḥ
kāyaḥ yaḥ asau siddhagatim gataḥ | sūryeṇa
sahitaḥ brahman pṛthivīm parivartate
6. nāga uvāca dvija brahman tatra me etat
evaṃvidham āścaryam dṛṣṭam yaḥ asau
saṃsiddhaḥ mānuṣaḥ kāyaḥ siddhagatim
gataḥ sūryeṇa sahitaḥ pṛthivīm parivartate
6. The Nāga said: "O brahmin (dvija), such a wonderful sight was seen by me there: a human body, completely perfected (saṃsiddha), which has attained the state of a perfected being (siddha) and travels around the earth accompanied by the sun, O brahmin (brahman)."
