वैशंपायन उवाच ।
आहूयमानस्तु स तेन संख्ये महामना धृतराष्ट्रस्य पुत्रः ।
निवर्तितस्तस्य गिराङ्कुशेन गजो यथा मत्त इवाङ्कुशेन ॥१॥
1. vaiśaṁpāyana uvāca ,
āhūyamānastu sa tena saṁkhye; mahāmanā dhṛtarāṣṭrasya putraḥ ,
nivartitastasya girāṅkuśena; gajo yathā matta ivāṅkuśena.

1. Vaiśaṃpāyana said: But the proud son of Dhṛtarāṣṭra, having been addressed by him in battle, turned back due to his speech, just as a maddened elephant is turned by a goad.
सोऽमृष्यमाणो वचसाभिमृष्टो महारथेनातिरथस्तरस्वी ।
पर्याववर्ताथ रथेन वीरो भोगी यथा पादतलाभिमृष्टः ॥२॥
2. so'mṛṣyamāṇo vacasābhimṛṣṭo; mahārathenātirathastarasvī ,
paryāvavartātha rathena vīro; bhogī yathā pādatalābhimṛṣṭaḥ.
2. saḥ amṛṣyamāṇaḥ vacasā abhimṛṣṭaḥ
mahārathena atirathaḥ tarasvī
paryāvavarta atha rathena vīraḥ
bhogī yathā pādatalābhimṛṣṭaḥ
2. That swift and mighty warrior (Atirathi), unable to tolerate being provoked by the words of the great warrior, then turned his chariot around, that hero, just as a serpent is provoked when touched by the sole of a foot.
तं प्रेक्ष्य कर्णः परिवर्तमानं निवर्त्य संस्तभ्य च विद्धगात्रः ।
दुर्योधनं दक्षिणतोऽभ्यगच्छत्पार्थं नृवीरो युधि हेममाली ॥३॥
3. taṁ prekṣya karṇaḥ parivartamānaṁ; nivartya saṁstabhya ca viddhagātraḥ ,
duryodhanaṁ dakṣiṇato'bhyagaccha;tpārthaṁ nṛvīro yudhi hemamālī.

3. Upon seeing him (Duryodhana) turning around, Karṇa, a hero among men wearing a golden garland, and having a wounded body, halted and steadied himself. Then he approached Duryodhana from the right side, [ready to face] Pārtha in battle.
भीष्मस्ततः शांतनवो निवृत्य हिरण्यकक्ष्यांस्त्वरयंस्तुरंगान् ।
दुर्योधनं पश्चिमतोऽभ्यरक्षत्पार्थान्महाबाहुरधिज्यधन्वा ॥४॥
4. bhīṣmastataḥ śāṁtanavo nivṛtya; hiraṇyakakṣyāṁstvarayaṁsturaṁgān ,
duryodhanaṁ paścimato'bhyarakṣa;tpārthānmahābāhuradhijyadhanvā.

hiraṇyakakṣyān tvarayan turaṅgān
duryodhanam paścimataḥ abhyarakṣat

4. Then, Bhishma, the son of Shantanu, having turned his gold-trapped horses, quickly protected Duryodhana from Arjuna (Pārtha) from the west. He was mighty-armed and had his bow strung.
द्रोणः कृपश्चैव विविंशतिश्च दुःशासनश्चैव निवृत्य शीघ्रम् ।
सर्वे पुरस्ताद्विततेषुचापा दुर्योधनार्थं त्वरिताभ्युपेयुः ॥५॥
5. droṇaḥ kṛpaścaiva viviṁśatiśca; duḥśāsanaścaiva nivṛtya śīghram ,
sarve purastādvitateṣucāpā; duryodhanārthaṁ tvaritābhyupeyuḥ.

5. Drona, Kripa, Vivimshati, and Duhshasana, all quickly turned back. With their bows strung, all of them swiftly advanced from the front for Duryodhana's protection.
स तान्यनीकानि निवर्तमानान्यालोक्य पूर्णौघनिभानि पार्थः ।
हंसो यथा मेघमिवापतन्तं धनंजयः प्रत्यपतत्तरस्वी ॥६॥
6. sa tānyanīkāni nivartamānā;nyālokya pūrṇaughanibhāni pārthaḥ ,
haṁso yathā meghamivāpatantaṁ; dhanaṁjayaḥ pratyapatattarasvī.

ālokya pūrṇaughanibhāni pārthaḥ
haṃsaḥ yathā megham iva āpatantam
dhanaṁjayaḥ pratyapatat tarasvī
6. Arjuna (Pārtha), upon seeing those returning armies, which resembled a surging flood, then, powerful and swift, counter-attacked them, just as a swan would attack an approaching cloud.
ते सर्वतः संपरिवार्य पार्थमस्त्राणि दिव्यानि समाददानाः ।
ववर्षुरभ्येत्य शरैः समन्तान्मेघा यथा भूधरमम्बुवेगैः ॥७॥
7. te sarvataḥ saṁparivārya pārtha;mastrāṇi divyāni samādadānāḥ ,
vavarṣurabhyetya śaraiḥ samantā;nmeghā yathā bhūdharamambuvegaiḥ.

astrāṇi divyāni samādadānāḥ
vavarṣuḥ abhyetya śaraiḥ samantāt
meghāḥ yathā bhūdharam ambuvegaiḥ
7. They (the warriors), having surrounded Arjuna (Pārtha) from all directions, and wielding divine weapons, then approached him and showered him with arrows from all sides, just as clouds drench a mountain with downpours of water.
ततोऽस्त्रमस्त्रेण निवार्य तेषां गाण्डीवधन्वा कुरुपुंगवानाम् ।
संमोहनं शत्रुसहोऽन्यदस्त्रं प्रादुश्चकारैन्द्रिरपारणीयम् ॥८॥
8. tato'stramastreṇa nivārya teṣāṁ; gāṇḍīvadhanvā kurupuṁgavānām ,
saṁmohanaṁ śatrusaho'nyadastraṁ; prāduścakāraindrirapāraṇīyam.
8. tataḥ astram astreṇa nivārya teṣām
gāṇḍīvadhanvā kurupuṅgavānām
saṃmohanam śatrusahaḥ anyat astram
prāduḥ cakāra aindriḥ apāraṇīyam
8. Then, Arjuna, the wielder of the Gāṇḍīva bow, who was among those foremost Kurus and capable of overcoming enemies, first repelled their weapon with his own. After that, he manifested another irresistible weapon, the saṃmohana (stupefying) weapon.
ततो दिशश्चानुदिशो विवृत्य शरैः सुधारैर्निशितैः सुपुङ्खैः ।
गाण्डीवघोषेण मनांसि तेषां महाबलः प्रव्यथयां चकार ॥९॥
9. tato diśaścānudiśo vivṛtya; śaraiḥ sudhārairniśitaiḥ supuṅkhaiḥ ,
gāṇḍīvaghoṣeṇa manāṁsi teṣāṁ; mahābalaḥ pravyathayāṁ cakāra.
9. tataḥ diśaḥ ca anudiśaḥ vivṛtya
śaraiḥ sudhāraiḥ niśitaiḥ
supuṅkhaiḥ gāṇḍīvaghoṣeṇa manāṃsi
teṣām mahābalaḥ pravyathayām cakāra
9. Then, the immensely powerful Arjuna, having enveloped all the cardinal and intermediate directions with his sharp, excellent, and well-feathered arrows, also distressed the minds of the enemies with the reverberating sound of his Gāṇḍīva bow.
ततः पुनर्भीमरवं प्रगृह्य दोर्भ्यां महाशङ्खमुदारघोषम् ।
व्यनादयत्स प्रदिशो दिशः खं भुवं च पार्थो द्विषतां निहन्ता ॥१०॥
10. tataḥ punarbhīmaravaṁ pragṛhya; dorbhyāṁ mahāśaṅkhamudāraghoṣam ,
vyanādayatsa pradiśo diśaḥ khaṁ; bhuvaṁ ca pārtho dviṣatāṁ nihantā.
10. tataḥ punaḥ bhīmaravam pragṛhya
dorbhyām mahāśaṅkham udāraghoṣam
vyanādayat saḥ pradiśaḥ diśaḥ kham
bhuvam ca pārthaḥ dviṣatām nihantā
10. Then, Partha (Arjuna), the destroyer of enemies, once again took up the great conch, which had a mighty roar, and with both his arms, he made it resound, filling the cardinal directions, intermediate directions, the sky, and the earth with its sound.
ते शङ्खनादेन कुरुप्रवीराः संमोहिताः पार्थसमीरितेन ।
उत्सृज्य चापानि दुरासदानि सर्वे तदा शान्तिपरा बभूवुः ॥११॥
11. te śaṅkhanādena kurupravīrāḥ; saṁmohitāḥ pārthasamīritena ,
utsṛjya cāpāni durāsadāni; sarve tadā śāntiparā babhūvuḥ.
11. te śaṅkhanādena kurupravīrāḥ saṃmohitāḥ pārthasamīritena
utsṛjya cāpāni durāsadāni sarve tadā śāntiparāḥ babhūvuḥ
11. Then, those Kuru heroes, bewildered by the sound of the conch blown by Partha (Arjuna), abandoned their formidable bows. All of them became calm and sought peace.
तथा विसंज्ञेषु परेषु पार्थः स्मृत्वा तु वाक्यानि तथोत्तरायाः ।
निर्याहि मध्यादिति मत्स्यपुत्रमुवाच यावत्कुरवो विसंज्ञाः ॥१२॥
12. tathā visaṁjñeṣu pareṣu pārthaḥ; smṛtvā tu vākyāni tathottarāyāḥ ,
niryāhi madhyāditi matsyaputra;muvāca yāvatkuravo visaṁjñāḥ.
12. tathā visaṃjñeṣu pareṣu pārthaḥ
smṛtvā tu vākyāni tathā uttarāyāḥ
niryāhi madhyāt iti matsyaputram
uvāca yāvat kuravaḥ visaṃjñāḥ
12. While his enemies were unconscious, Partha (Arjuna), remembering Uttarā's words, told the son of Matsya (Uttara), "Go out from the midst as long as the Kurus remain unconscious."
आचार्य शारद्वतयोः सुशुक्ले कर्णस्य पीतं रुचिरं च वस्त्रम् ।
द्रौणेश्च राज्ञश्च तथैव नीले वस्त्रे समादत्स्व नरप्रवीर ॥१३॥
13. ācārya śāradvatayoḥ suśukle; karṇasya pītaṁ ruciraṁ ca vastram ,
drauṇeśca rājñaśca tathaiva nīle; vastre samādatsva narapravīra.

drauṇeḥ ca rājñaḥ ca tathā eva

13. O best among men (Uttara), take the very white garments for the teacher (Droṇa) and Śāradvata (Kṛpa), the beautiful yellow garment for Karṇa, and similarly, the two blue garments for Droṇi (Aśvatthāman) and the king (Duryodhana).
भीष्मस्य संज्ञां तु तथैव मन्ये जानाति मेऽस्त्रप्रतिघातमेषः ।
एतस्य वाहान्कुरु सव्यतस्त्वमेवं हि यातव्यममूढसंज्ञैः ॥१४॥
14. bhīṣmasya saṁjñāṁ tu tathaiva manye; jānāti me'strapratighātameṣaḥ ,
etasya vāhānkuru savyatastva;mevaṁ hi yātavyamamūḍhasaṁjñaiḥ.
14. bhīṣmasya saṃjñām tu tathā eva
manye jānāti mama astrapratighātam
eṣaḥ etasya vāhān kuru savyataḥ
tvam evam hi yātavyam amūḍhasaṃjñaiḥ
14. "I believe Bhishma's distinguishing mark is the same, as he alone knows how to counter my weapons. Therefore, turn his horses to the left, for this is how one must proceed against those who are not unconscious."
रश्मीन्समुत्सृज्य ततो महात्मा रथादवप्लुत्य विराटपुत्रः ।
वस्त्राण्युपादाय महारथानां तूर्णं पुनः स्वं रथमारुरोह ॥१५॥
15. raśmīnsamutsṛjya tato mahātmā; rathādavaplutya virāṭaputraḥ ,
vastrāṇyupādāya mahārathānāṁ; tūrṇaṁ punaḥ svaṁ rathamāruroha.
15. raśmīn samutsṛjya tataḥ mahātmā
rathāt avaplutya virāṭaputraḥ
vastrāṇi upādāya mahārathānām
tūrṇam punaḥ svam ratham āruroha
15. Having released the reins, the great-souled son of Virāṭa (Uttara) then jumped down from the chariot. After quickly taking the garments of the great charioteers, he again climbed onto his own chariot.
ततोऽन्वशासच्चतुरः सदश्वान्पुत्रो विराटस्य हिरण्यकक्ष्यान् ।
ते तद्व्यतीयुर्ध्वजिनामनीकं श्वेता वहन्तोऽर्जुनमाजिमध्यात् ॥१६॥
16. tato'nvaśāsaccaturaḥ sadaśvā;nputro virāṭasya hiraṇyakakṣyān ,
te tadvyatīyurdhvajināmanīkaṁ; śvetā vahanto'rjunamājimadhyāt.
16. tataḥ anvāśāsat caturaḥ sad-aśvān
putraḥ virāṭasya hiraṇyakakṣyān
te tat vyatīyuḥ dhvajinām anīkam
śvetāḥ vahantaḥ arjunam ājī-madhyāt
16. Then, Virāṭa's son (Uttara) commanded his four excellent horses, which were adorned with golden harnesses. Those white horses, carrying Arjuna, proceeded through the enemy army from the midst of the battlefield.
तथा तु यान्तं पुरुषप्रवीरं भीष्मः शरैरभ्यहनत्तरस्वी ।
स चापि भीष्मस्य हयान्निहत्य विव्याध पार्श्वे दशभिः पृषत्कैः ॥१७॥
17. tathā tu yāntaṁ puruṣapravīraṁ; bhīṣmaḥ śarairabhyahanattarasvī ,
sa cāpi bhīṣmasya hayānnihatya; vivyādha pārśve daśabhiḥ pṛṣatkaiḥ.
17. tathā tu yāntam puruṣapravīram
bhīṣmaḥ śaraiḥ abhi ahanat tarasvī
saḥ ca api bhīṣmasya hayān nihatya
vivyādha pārśve daśabhiḥ pṛṣatkaiḥ
17. Then, the powerful Bhīṣma struck with arrows that foremost among men (puruṣapravīra) who was thus advancing. And Arjuna, in turn, having struck down Bhīṣma's horses, pierced him in the side with ten arrows.
ततोऽर्जुनो भीष्ममपास्य युद्धे विद्ध्वास्य यन्तारमरिष्टधन्वा ।
तस्थौ विमुक्तो रथवृन्दमध्याद्राहुं विदार्येव सहस्ररश्मिः ॥१८॥
18. tato'rjuno bhīṣmamapāsya yuddhe; viddhvāsya yantāramariṣṭadhanvā ,
tasthau vimukto rathavṛndamadhyā;drāhuṁ vidāryeva sahasraraśmiḥ.
18. tataḥ arjunaḥ bhīṣmam apāsya yuddhe
viddhvā asya yantāram ariṣṭadhanvā
tasthau vimuktaḥ ratha-vṛnda-madhyāt
rāhum vidārya iva sahasra-raśmiḥ
18. Then Arjuna, whose bow was intact (ariṣṭadhanvā), having set aside Bhīṣma in battle and having pierced his charioteer, stood freed from the midst of the multitude of chariots, just as the sun (sahasra-raśmi) emerges after having split Rāhu.
लब्ध्वा तु संज्ञां च कुरुप्रवीरः पार्थं समीक्ष्याथ महेन्द्रकल्पम् ।
रणाद्विमुक्तं स्थितमेकमाजौ स धार्तराष्ट्रस्त्वरितो बभाषे ॥१९॥
19. labdhvā tu saṁjñāṁ ca kurupravīraḥ; pārthaṁ samīkṣyātha mahendrakalpam ,
raṇādvimuktaṁ sthitamekamājau; sa dhārtarāṣṭrastvarito babhāṣe.
19. labdhvā tu saṃjñām ca kurupravīraḥ
pārtham samīkṣya atha mahendrakalpam
raṇāt vimuktam sthitam ekam ājau
saḥ dhārtarāṣṭraḥ tvaritaḥ babhāṣe
19. But then, the foremost hero of the Kurus (Bhīṣma), having regained his consciousness (saṃjñā), and observing Pārtha (Arjuna) - who was like Mahendra (Indra), freed from the battle, and standing alone in the fight - that son of Dhṛtarāṣṭra (Duryodhana) quickly spoke.
अयं कथं स्विद्भवतां विमुक्तस्तं वै प्रबध्नीत यथा न मुच्येत् ।
तमब्रवीच्छांतनवः प्रहस्य क्व ते गता बुद्धिरभूत्क्व वीर्यम् ॥२०॥
20. ayaṁ kathaṁ svidbhavatāṁ vimukta;staṁ vai prabadhnīta yathā na mucyet ,
tamabravīcchāṁtanavaḥ prahasya; kva te gatā buddhirabhūtkva vīryam.
20. ayam katham svid bhavatām vimuktaḥ
tam vai prabadhnīta yathā na mucyet
tam abravīt śāntanavaḥ prahasya
kva te gatā buddhiḥ abhūt kva vīryam
20. “How did he escape from you all? Indeed, bind him so that he cannot escape!” Śāntanava (Bhīṣma), laughing, said to him, “Where has your intellect gone? Where is your valor?”
शान्तिं पराश्वस्य यथा स्थितोऽभूरुत्सृज्य बाणांश्च धनुश्च चित्रम् ।
न त्वेव बीभत्सुरलं नृशंसं कर्तुं न पापेऽस्य मनो निविष्टम् ॥२१॥
21. śāntiṁ parāśvasya yathā sthito'bhū;rutsṛjya bāṇāṁśca dhanuśca citram ,
na tveva bībhatsuralaṁ nṛśaṁsaṁ; kartuṁ na pāpe'sya mano niviṣṭam.
21. śāntim parāśvasya yathā sthitaḥ abhūḥ
utsṛjya bāṇān ca dhanuḥ ca citram
na tu eva bībhatsuḥ alam nṛśaṃsam
kartum na pāpe asya manaḥ niviṣṭam
21. You remained in peace (śānti), having cast aside your extraordinary arrows and bow. But Arjuna (Bībhatsu) is not capable of performing a cruel act, nor is his mind inclined towards sin.
त्रैलोक्यहेतोर्न जहेत्स्वधर्मं तस्मान्न सर्वे निहता रणेऽस्मिन् ।
क्षिप्रं कुरून्याहि कुरुप्रवीर विजित्य गाश्च प्रतियातु पार्थः ॥२२॥
22. trailokyahetorna jahetsvadharmaṁ; tasmānna sarve nihatā raṇe'smin ,
kṣipraṁ kurūnyāhi kurupravīra; vijitya gāśca pratiyātu pārthaḥ.
22. trailokyahetoḥ na jahet svadharmam
tasmāt na sarve nihatāḥ raṇe
asmin kṣipram kurūn yāhi kurupravīra
vijitya gāḥ ca pratiyātu pārthaḥ
22. For the sake of the three worlds, he would not abandon his own inherent nature (svadharma). Therefore, not all were slain in this battle. O best of the Kurus, go quickly to the Kurus! And may Pārtha (Arjuna) return after conquering the cows.
दुर्योधनस्तस्य तु तन्निशम्य पितामहस्यात्महितं वचोऽथ ।
अतीतकामो युधि सोऽत्यमर्षी राजा विनिःश्वस्य बभूव तूष्णीम् ॥२३॥
23. duryodhanastasya tu tanniśamya; pitāmahasyātmahitaṁ vaco'tha ,
atītakāmo yudhi so'tyamarṣī; rājā viniḥśvasya babhūva tūṣṇīm.
23. duryodhanaḥ tasya tu tat niśamya
pitāmahasya ātmahitam vacaḥ atha
atītakāmaḥ yudhi saḥ atyamarṣī
rājā viniḥśvasya babhūva tūṣṇīm
23. Duryodhana, having heard that beneficial (ātman) counsel from his grandfather, and being one whose desires had passed away in battle, and exceedingly wrathful, that king (Duryodhana) sighed and became silent.
तद्भीष्मवाक्यं हितमीक्ष्य सर्वे धनंजयाग्निं च विवर्धमानम् ।
निवर्तनायैव मनो निदध्युर्दुर्योधनं ते परिरक्षमाणाः ॥२४॥
24. tadbhīṣmavākyaṁ hitamīkṣya sarve; dhanaṁjayāgniṁ ca vivardhamānam ,
nivartanāyaiva mano nidadhyu;rduryodhanaṁ te parirakṣamāṇāḥ.
24. tat bhīṣmavākyam hitam īkṣya sarve
dhanaṃjaya-agnim ca vivardhamānam
nivartanāya eva manaḥ nidadhyuḥ
duryodhanam te parirakṣamāṇāḥ
24. Considering Bhishma's beneficial words and the ever-increasing martial prowess (literally, 'fire') of Arjuna, all of them, while protecting Duryodhana, firmly resolved to retreat.
तान्प्रस्थितान्प्रीतमनाः स पार्थो धनंजयः प्रेक्ष्य कुरुप्रवीरान् ।
आभाषमाणोऽनुययौ मुहूर्तं संपूजयंस्तत्र गुरून्महात्मा ॥२५॥
25. tānprasthitānprītamanāḥ sa pārtho; dhanaṁjayaḥ prekṣya kurupravīrān ,
ābhāṣamāṇo'nuyayau muhūrtaṁ; saṁpūjayaṁstatra gurūnmahātmā.

pārthaḥ dhanaṃjayaḥ prekṣya kurupravīrān
ābhāṣamāṇaḥ anuyayau muhūrtam
saṃpūjayan tatra gurūn mahātmā
25. Observing those Kuru heroes who had set out, that glad-minded Partha (Arjuna), Dhananjaya, the great-souled one, followed them for a moment, conversing with and honoring his elders (guru) there.
पितामहं शांतनवं स वृद्धं द्रोणं गुरुं च प्रतिपूज्य मूर्ध्ना ।
द्रौणिं कृपं चैव गुरूंश्च सर्वाञ्शरैर्विचित्रैरभिवाद्य चैव ॥२६॥
26. pitāmahaṁ śāṁtanavaṁ sa vṛddhaṁ; droṇaṁ guruṁ ca pratipūjya mūrdhnā ,
drauṇiṁ kṛpaṁ caiva gurūṁśca sarvā;ñśarairvicitrairabhivādya caiva.
26. pitāmaham śāntanavam saḥ vṛddham
droṇam gurum ca pratipūjya mūrdhnā
drauṇim kṛpam ca eva gurūn ca sarvān
śaraiḥ vicitraiḥ abhivādya ca eva
26. Having honored his aged grandfather, the son of Shantanu (Bhishma), and Drona, his preceptor (guru), by bowing his head; and having also saluted Drona's son (Ashvatthama), Kripa, and all his other elders (guru) with wondrous arrows.
दुर्योधनस्योत्तमरत्नचित्रं चिच्छेद पार्थो मुकुटं शरेण ।
आमन्त्र्य वीरांश्च तथैव मान्यान्गाण्डीवघोषेण विनाद्य लोकान् ॥२७॥
27. duryodhanasyottamaratnacitraṁ; ciccheda pārtho mukuṭaṁ śareṇa ,
āmantrya vīrāṁśca tathaiva mānyā;ngāṇḍīvaghoṣeṇa vinādya lokān.

mānyān gāṇḍīvaghoṣeṇa vinādya lokān
27. With an arrow, Partha (Arjuna) severed Duryodhana's crown, which was adorned with excellent gems. Having then addressed the heroes and the respected elders in the same way, he made the worlds resound with the roar of his Gandiva bow.
स देवदत्तं सहसा विनाद्य विदार्य वीरो द्विषतां मनांसि ।
ध्वजेन सर्वानभिभूय शत्रून्स हेमजालेन विराजमानः ॥२८॥
28. sa devadattaṁ sahasā vinādya; vidārya vīro dviṣatāṁ manāṁsi ,
dhvajena sarvānabhibhūya śatrū;nsa hemajālena virājamānaḥ.

dhvajena sarvān abhibhūya śatrūn sa hemajālena virājamānaḥ
28. That hero, shining splendidly with a golden network, having suddenly sounded his conch Devadatta loudly, having shattered the minds of his adversaries, and having overpowered all enemies with his banner...
दृष्ट्वा प्रयातांस्तु कुरून्किरीटी हृष्टोऽब्रवीत्तत्र स मत्स्यपुत्रम् ।
आवर्तयाश्वान्पशवो जितास्ते याताः परे याहि पुरं प्रहृष्टः ॥२९॥
29. dṛṣṭvā prayātāṁstu kurūnkirīṭī; hṛṣṭo'bravīttatra sa matsyaputram ,
āvartayāśvānpaśavo jitāste; yātāḥ pare yāhi puraṁ prahṛṣṭaḥ.

āvartaya aśvān paśavaḥ jitāḥ te

29. Having seen the Kurus indeed fleeing, Arjuna (the one wearing a diadem), delighted, spoke there to the son of Matsya (Uttara): 'Turn back the horses! The cattle have been won by you. The enemies have fled. Go to the city, greatly delighted!'
