द्रौपद्युवाच ।
इमं तु ते मार्गमपेतदोषं वक्ष्यामि चित्तग्रहणाय भर्तुः ।
यस्मिन्यथावत्सखि वर्तमाना भर्तारमाच्छेत्स्यसि कामिनीभ्यः ॥१॥

Draupadī said: "But I will tell you, my friend, this flawless path for winning your husband's heart. By properly following it, you will surely secure your husband from other desirous women."
नैतादृशं दैवतमस्ति सत्ये सर्वेषु लोकेषु सदैवतेषु ।
यथा पतिस्तस्य हि सर्वकामा लभ्याः प्रसादे कुपितश्च हन्यात् ॥२॥
यथा पतिस्तस्य हि सर्वकामा लभ्याः प्रसादे कुपितश्च हन्यात् ॥२॥
2. naitādṛśaṁ daivatamasti satye; sarveṣu lokeṣu sadaivateṣu ,
yathā patistasya hi sarvakāmā; labhyāḥ prasāde kupitaśca hanyāt.

na etādṛśam daivatam asti satye
sarveṣu lokeṣu sa-devateṣu yathā
patiḥ tasya hi sarva-kāmāḥ

sarveṣu lokeṣu sa-devateṣu yathā
patiḥ tasya hi sarva-kāmāḥ
labhyāḥ prasāde kupitaḥ ca hanyāt

Truly, there is no such deity, even among all the gods in all worlds, as a husband. By his grace, all desires can be fulfilled, but if he is angered, he can also destroy.
तस्मादपत्यं विविधाश्च भोगाः शय्यासनान्यद्भुतदर्शनानि ।
वस्त्राणि माल्यानि तथैव गन्धाः स्वर्गश्च लोको विषमा च कीर्तिः ॥३॥
वस्त्राणि माल्यानि तथैव गन्धाः स्वर्गश्च लोको विषमा च कीर्तिः ॥३॥
3. tasmādapatyaṁ vividhāśca bhogāḥ; śayyāsanānyadbhutadarśanāni ,
vastrāṇi mālyāni tathaiva gandhāḥ; svargaśca loko viṣamā ca kīrtiḥ.
vastrāṇi mālyāni tathaiva gandhāḥ; svargaśca loko viṣamā ca kīrtiḥ.

tasmāt apatyam vividhāḥ ca bhogāḥ
śayyā-āsanāni adbhuta-darśanāni
vastrāṇi mālyāni tathā eva gandhāḥ
svargaḥ ca lokaḥ viṣamā ca kīrtiḥ
śayyā-āsanāni adbhuta-darśanāni
vastrāṇi mālyāni tathā eva gandhāḥ
svargaḥ ca lokaḥ viṣamā ca kīrtiḥ

Therefore, progeny, various enjoyments, wonderfully appearing beds and seats, clothes, garlands, and fragrances, as well as the celestial world and incomparable fame (are attained).
सुखं सुखेनेह न जातु लभ्यं दुःखेन साध्वी लभते सुखानि ।
सा कृष्णमाराधय सौहृदेन प्रेम्णा च नित्यं प्रतिकर्मणा च ॥४॥
सा कृष्णमाराधय सौहृदेन प्रेम्णा च नित्यं प्रतिकर्मणा च ॥४॥
4. sukhaṁ sukheneha na jātu labhyaṁ; duḥkhena sādhvī labhate sukhāni ,
sā kṛṣṇamārādhaya sauhṛdena; premṇā ca nityaṁ pratikarmaṇā ca.
sā kṛṣṇamārādhaya sauhṛdena; premṇā ca nityaṁ pratikarmaṇā ca.

sukham sukhena iha na jātu labhyam
duḥkhena sādhvī labhate sukhāni
sā kṛṣṇam ārādhaya sauhṛdena
premṇā ca nityam prati-karmaṇā ca
duḥkhena sādhvī labhate sukhāni
sā kṛṣṇam ārādhaya sauhṛdena
premṇā ca nityam prati-karmaṇā ca

Happiness is never attained in this world through ease; rather, a virtuous woman (sādhvī) attains happiness through hardship. Therefore, you should worship Kṛṣṇa with kindness, always with love, and through diligent action (karma).
तथाशनैश्चारुभिरग्र्यमाल्यैर्दाक्षिण्ययोगैर्विविधैश्च गन्धैः ।
अस्याः प्रियोऽस्मीति यथा विदित्वा त्वामेव संश्लिष्यति सर्वभावैः ॥५॥
अस्याः प्रियोऽस्मीति यथा विदित्वा त्वामेव संश्लिष्यति सर्वभावैः ॥५॥
5. tathāśanaiścārubhiragryamālyai;rdākṣiṇyayogairvividhaiśca gandhaiḥ ,
asyāḥ priyo'smīti yathā viditvā; tvāmeva saṁśliṣyati sarvabhāvaiḥ.
asyāḥ priyo'smīti yathā viditvā; tvāmeva saṁśliṣyati sarvabhāvaiḥ.

tathā aśanaiḥ cārubhiḥ agrya-mālyaiḥ
dākṣiṇya-yogaiḥ vividhaiḥ ca gandhaiḥ
asyāḥ priyaḥ asmi iti yathā viditvā
tvām eva sam-śliṣyati sarva-bhāvaiḥ
dākṣiṇya-yogaiḥ vividhaiḥ ca gandhaiḥ
asyāḥ priyaḥ asmi iti yathā viditvā
tvām eva sam-śliṣyati sarva-bhāvaiḥ

And likewise, through food offerings, charming (ornaments), excellent garlands, expressions of goodwill (dākṣiṇya-yoga), and various fragrances, so that knowing 'I am dear to her,' he will embrace you completely with all his feelings.
श्रुत्वा स्वरं द्वारगतस्य भर्तुः प्रत्युत्थिता तिष्ठ गृहस्य मध्ये ।
दृष्ट्वा प्रविष्टं त्वरितासनेन पाद्येन चैव प्रतिपूजय त्वम् ॥६॥
दृष्ट्वा प्रविष्टं त्वरितासनेन पाद्येन चैव प्रतिपूजय त्वम् ॥६॥
6. śrutvā svaraṁ dvāragatasya bhartuḥ; pratyutthitā tiṣṭha gṛhasya madhye ,
dṛṣṭvā praviṣṭaṁ tvaritāsanena; pādyena caiva pratipūjaya tvam.
dṛṣṭvā praviṣṭaṁ tvaritāsanena; pādyena caiva pratipūjaya tvam.

śrutvā svaram dvāragatasya bhartuḥ
pratyutthitā tiṣṭha gṛhasya madhye

dṛṣṭvā praviṣṭam tvaritāsanena
pādyena ca eva pratipūjaya tvam

Upon hearing the voice of your husband who has arrived at the door, stand up and remain in the middle of the house. Seeing him enter, you should quickly offer him a seat and water for his feet, and honor him.
संप्रेषितायामथ चैव दास्यामुत्थाय सर्वं स्वयमेव कुर्याः ।
जानातु कृष्णस्तव भावमेतं सर्वात्मना मां भजतीति सत्ये ॥७॥
जानातु कृष्णस्तव भावमेतं सर्वात्मना मां भजतीति सत्ये ॥७॥
7. saṁpreṣitāyāmatha caiva dāsyā;mutthāya sarvaṁ svayameva kuryāḥ ,
jānātu kṛṣṇastava bhāvametaṁ; sarvātmanā māṁ bhajatīti satye.
jānātu kṛṣṇastava bhāvametaṁ; sarvātmanā māṁ bhajatīti satye.
7.
sampreṣitāyām atha ca eva dāsyām
utthāya sarvam svayam eva kuryāḥ
jānātu kṛṣṇaḥ tava bhāvam etam
sarvātmanā mām bhajati iti satye
utthāya sarvam svayam eva kuryāḥ
jānātu kṛṣṇaḥ tava bhāvam etam
sarvātmanā mām bhajati iti satye

Even when a maidservant is sent, you should rise and do everything yourself. Let Kṛṣṇa know this devotion (bhāva) of yours, that you worship me with your whole being (sarvātmanā), truly.
त्वत्संनिधौ यत्कथयेत्पतिस्ते यद्यप्यगुह्यं परिरक्षितव्यम् ।
काचित्सपत्नी तव वासुदेवं प्रत्यादिशेत्तेन भवेद्विरागः ॥८॥
काचित्सपत्नी तव वासुदेवं प्रत्यादिशेत्तेन भवेद्विरागः ॥८॥
8. tvatsaṁnidhau yatkathayetpatiste; yadyapyaguhyaṁ parirakṣitavyam ,
kācitsapatnī tava vāsudevaṁ; pratyādiśettena bhavedvirāgaḥ.
kācitsapatnī tava vāsudevaṁ; pratyādiśettena bhavedvirāgaḥ.
8.
tvat saṃnidhau yat kathayet patiḥ
te yadi api aguhyam parirakṣitavyam
kācit sapatnī tava vāsudevam
pratyādiśet tena bhavet virāgaḥ
te yadi api aguhyam parirakṣitavyam
kācit sapatnī tava vāsudevam
pratyādiśet tena bhavet virāgaḥ

Whatever your husband might say in your presence, even if it is not a secret, must be carefully protected. Some co-wife of yours might inform Vāsudeva (Kṛṣṇa), and through that, indifference might arise.
प्रियांश्च रक्तांश्च हितांश्च भर्तुस्तान्भोजयेथा विविधैरुपायैः ।
द्वेष्यैरपक्षैरहितैश्च तस्य भिद्यस्व नित्यं कुहकोद्धतैश्च ॥९॥
द्वेष्यैरपक्षैरहितैश्च तस्य भिद्यस्व नित्यं कुहकोद्धतैश्च ॥९॥
9. priyāṁśca raktāṁśca hitāṁśca bhartu;stānbhojayethā vividhairupāyaiḥ ,
dveṣyairapakṣairahitaiśca tasya; bhidyasva nityaṁ kuhakoddhataiśca.
dveṣyairapakṣairahitaiśca tasya; bhidyasva nityaṁ kuhakoddhataiśca.

priyān ca raktān ca hitān ca bhartuḥ
tān bhojayethāḥ vividhaiḥ upāyaiḥ
dveṣyaiḥ apakṣaiḥ ahitaiḥ ca tasya
bhidyasva nityam kuhakoddhataiḥ ca
tān bhojayethāḥ vividhaiḥ upāyaiḥ
dveṣyaiḥ apakṣaiḥ ahitaiḥ ca tasya
bhidyasva nityam kuhakoddhataiḥ ca
9.
You should feed those who are dear, affectionate, and beneficial to your husband by various means. Constantly distance yourself from his hateful, hostile, and harmful opponents, as well as those who are arrogant tricksters.
मदं प्रमादं पुरुषेषु हित्वा संयच्छ भावं प्रतिगृह्य मौनम् ।
प्रद्युम्नसाम्बावपि ते कुमारौ नोपासितव्यौ रहिते कदाचित् ॥१०॥
प्रद्युम्नसाम्बावपि ते कुमारौ नोपासितव्यौ रहिते कदाचित् ॥१०॥
10. madaṁ pramādaṁ puruṣeṣu hitvā; saṁyaccha bhāvaṁ pratigṛhya maunam ,
pradyumnasāmbāvapi te kumārau; nopāsitavyau rahite kadācit.
pradyumnasāmbāvapi te kumārau; nopāsitavyau rahite kadācit.

madam pramādam puruṣeṣu hitvā
saṃyaccha bhāvam pratigṛhya maunam
pradyumnasāmbau api te kumārau
na upāsitavyau rahite kadācit
saṃyaccha bhāvam pratigṛhya maunam
pradyumnasāmbau api te kumārau
na upāsitavyau rahite kadācit
10.
Renouncing pride and heedlessness towards men, restrain your inclinations by observing silence. Even your two sons, Pradyumna and Sāmba, should never be associated with in a secluded place.
महाकुलीनाभिरपापिकाभिः स्त्रीभिः सतीभिस्तव सख्यमस्तु ।
चण्डाश्च शौण्डाश्च महाशनाश्च चौराश्च दुष्टाश्चपलाश्च वर्ज्याः ॥११॥
चण्डाश्च शौण्डाश्च महाशनाश्च चौराश्च दुष्टाश्चपलाश्च वर्ज्याः ॥११॥
11. mahākulīnābhirapāpikābhiḥ; strībhiḥ satībhistava sakhyamastu ,
caṇḍāśca śauṇḍāśca mahāśanāśca; caurāśca duṣṭāścapalāśca varjyāḥ.
caṇḍāśca śauṇḍāśca mahāśanāśca; caurāśca duṣṭāścapalāśca varjyāḥ.
11.
mahākulīnābhiḥ apāpikābhiḥ strībhiḥ
satībhiḥ tava sakhyam astu caṇḍāḥ
ca śauṇḍāḥ ca mahāśanāḥ ca
caurāḥ ca duṣṭāḥ ca capalāḥ ca varjyāḥ
satībhiḥ tava sakhyam astu caṇḍāḥ
ca śauṇḍāḥ ca mahāśanāḥ ca
caurāḥ ca duṣṭāḥ ca capalāḥ ca varjyāḥ
11.
Maintain friendship with women of noble family, who are virtuous and pure. Fierce, arrogant, gluttonous, thieving, wicked, and fickle individuals are to be avoided.
एतद्यशस्यं भगवेदनं च स्वर्ग्यं तथा शत्रुनिबर्हणं च ।
महार्हमाल्याभरणाङ्गरागा भर्तारमाराधय पुण्यगन्धा ॥१२॥

12. etadyaśasyaṁ bhagavedanaṁ ca; svargyaṁ tathā śatrunibarhaṇaṁ ca ,
mahārhamālyābharaṇāṅgarāgā; bhartāramārādhaya puṇyagandhā.

12.
This (conduct) is conducive to fame, productive of prosperity, leads to heaven, and annihilates enemies. O lady of sacred fragrance, adorn yourself with precious garlands, ornaments, and unguents, and worship your husband.
