अध्यर्धगुणमाहुर्यं बले शौर्ये च माधव ।
पित्रा त्वया च दाशार्ह दृप्तं सिंहमिवोत्कटम् ॥१॥

adhyardhaguṇamāhuryaṁ bale śaurye ca mādhava ,
pitrā tvayā ca dāśārha dṛptaṁ siṁhamivotkaṭam.

1. Gandhari said: 'O Madhava, O Dasharha, they say that he was one and a half times superior in strength and valor. He was fierce and formidable like a proud lion, through his father and through you.'
यो बिभेद चमूमेको मम पुत्रस्य दुर्भिदाम् ।
स भूत्वा मृत्युरन्येषां स्वयं मृत्युवशं गतः ॥२॥
2. yo bibheda camūmeko mama putrasya durbhidām ,
sa bhūtvā mṛtyuranyeṣāṁ svayaṁ mṛtyuvaśaṁ gataḥ.
2. yaḥ bibheda camūm ekaḥ mama putrasya durbhidām
saḥ bhūtvā mṛtyuḥ anyeṣām svayam mṛtyuvaśam gataḥ

2. He who single-handedly pierced my son's impregnable army, himself, having become the death of others, has now fallen under the sway of death.
तस्योपलक्षये कृष्ण कार्ष्णेरमिततेजसः ।
अभिमन्योर्हतस्यापि प्रभा नैवोपशाम्यति ॥३॥
3. tasyopalakṣaye kṛṣṇa kārṣṇeramitatejasaḥ ,
abhimanyorhatasyāpi prabhā naivopaśāmyati.
3. tasya upalakṣaye kṛṣṇa kārṣṇeḥ amitatejasaḥ
abhimanyoḥ hatasya api prabhā na eva upaśāmyati
3. he kṛṣṇa tasya kārṣṇeḥ amitatejasaḥ abhimanyoḥ
hatasya api prabhā na eva upaśāmyati aham upalakṣaye
3. O Krishna, I observe that the splendor of that Abhimanyu, the son of Kṛṣṇa (kārṣṇi) of immeasurable brilliance, does not diminish, even though he is slain.
एषा विराटदुहिता स्नुषा गाण्डीवधन्वनः ।
आर्ता बाला पतिं वीरं शोच्या शोचत्यनिन्दिता ॥४॥
4. eṣā virāṭaduhitā snuṣā gāṇḍīvadhanvanaḥ ,
ārtā bālā patiṁ vīraṁ śocyā śocatyaninditā.

ārtā bālā patim vīram śocyā śocati aninditā

4. This blameless young woman, the daughter of Virāṭa and daughter-in-law of Arjuna, the wielder of Gāṇḍīva, is distressed and pitiable as she laments her heroic husband.
तमेषा हि समासाद्य भार्या भर्तारमन्तिके ।
विराटदुहिता कृष्ण पाणिना परिमार्जति ॥५॥
5. tameṣā hi samāsādya bhāryā bhartāramantike ,
virāṭaduhitā kṛṣṇa pāṇinā parimārjati.
5. tam eṣā hi samāsādya bhāryā bhartāram antike
virāṭaduhitā kṛṣṇa pāṇinā parimārjati

5. O Kṛṣṇa, this daughter of Virāṭa, his wife, having indeed approached her husband lying close by, gently strokes him with her hand.
तस्य वक्त्रमुपाघ्राय सौभद्रस्य यशस्विनी ।
विबुद्धकमलाकारं कम्बुवृत्तशिरोधरम् ॥६॥
6. tasya vaktramupāghrāya saubhadrasya yaśasvinī ,
vibuddhakamalākāraṁ kambuvṛttaśirodharam.

6. The glorious Uttarā, having kissed the face of Saubhadra (Abhimanyu)—a face resembling a fully bloomed lotus and a neck rounded like a conch.
काम्यरूपवती चैषा परिष्वजति भामिनी ।
लज्जमाना पुरेवैनं माध्वीकमदमूर्छिता ॥७॥
7. kāmyarūpavatī caiṣā pariṣvajati bhāminī ,
lajjamānā purevainaṁ mādhvīkamadamūrchitā.
7. kāmyarūpavatī ca eṣā pariṣvajati bhāminī
lajjamānā purā iva enam mādhvīkamadamūrchitā
7. eṣā ca kāmyarūpavatī bhāminī mādhvīkamadamūrchitā

7. And this beautiful woman, endowed with a charming form, embraces him. She is as if swooning from the intoxication of honey-wine, embracing him shyly, just as she used to before.
तस्य क्षतजसंदिग्धं जातरूपपरिष्कृतम् ।
विमुच्य कवचं कृष्ण शरीरमभिवीक्षते ॥८॥
8. tasya kṣatajasaṁdigdhaṁ jātarūpapariṣkṛtam ,
vimucya kavacaṁ kṛṣṇa śarīramabhivīkṣate.
8. tasya kṣataja-saṃdigdham jātarūpa-pariṣkṛtam
vimucya kavacam kṛṣṇa śarīram abhivīkṣate
8. kṛṣṇa tasya kṣataja-saṃdigdham jātarūpa-pariṣkṛtam
kavacam vimucya śarīram abhivīkṣate
8. O Kṛṣṇa, having removed his armor, which was stained with blood and adorned with gold, she looks at the body.
अवेक्षमाणा तं बाला कृष्ण त्वामभिभाषते ।
अयं ते पुण्डरीकाक्ष सदृशाक्षो निपातितः ॥९॥
9. avekṣamāṇā taṁ bālā kṛṣṇa tvāmabhibhāṣate ,
ayaṁ te puṇḍarīkākṣa sadṛśākṣo nipātitaḥ.
9. avekṣamāṇā tam bālā kṛṣṇa tvām abhibhāṣate
ayam te puṇḍarīkākṣa sadṛśa-akṣaḥ nipātitaḥ
9. kṛṣṇa puṇḍarīkākṣa tam avekṣamāṇā bālā tvām
abhibhāṣate ayam te sadṛśa-akṣaḥ nipātitaḥ
9. O Kṛṣṇa, O lotus-eyed one, looking at him, the young woman addresses you: "This one, whose eyes resemble yours, has been struck down."
बले वीर्ये च सदृशस्तेजसा चैव तेऽनघ ।
रूपेण च तवात्यर्थं शेते भुवि निपातितः ॥१०॥
10. bale vīrye ca sadṛśastejasā caiva te'nagha ,
rūpeṇa ca tavātyarthaṁ śete bhuvi nipātitaḥ.
10. bale vīrye ca sadṛśaḥ tejasā ca eva te anagha
rūpeṇa ca tava ati-artham śete bhuvi nipātitaḥ
10. anagha te bale vīrye ca tejasā ca eva sadṛśaḥ
nipātitaḥ ca tava ati-artham rūpeṇa bhuvi śete
10. O sinless one (anagha), he was similar to you in strength and valor, and indeed in splendor. And having been struck down, he lies greatly resembling your form on the earth.
अत्यन्तसुकुमारस्य राङ्कवाजिनशायिनः ।
कच्चिदद्य शरीरं ते भूमौ न परितप्यते ॥११॥
11. atyantasukumārasya rāṅkavājinaśāyinaḥ ,
kaccidadya śarīraṁ te bhūmau na paritapyate.
11. atyanta-sukumārasya rāṅkavājina-śāyinaḥ
kaccit adya śarīram te bhūmau na paritapyate
11. atyanta-sukumārasya rāṅkavājina-śāyinaḥ te
śarīram adya bhūmau na paritapyate kaccit
11. I hope that today his body, of one so exceedingly delicate who used to sleep on blankets of Rānku deer skin, does not suffer on the ground.
मातङ्गभुजवर्ष्माणौ ज्याक्षेपकठिनत्वचौ ।
काञ्चनाङ्गदिनौ शेषे निक्षिप्य विपुलौ भुजौ ॥१२॥
12. mātaṅgabhujavarṣmāṇau jyākṣepakaṭhinatvacau ,
kāñcanāṅgadinau śeṣe nikṣipya vipulau bhujau.
12. mātaṅgabhujavarṣmāṇau jyākṣepakaṭhinatvacau
kāñcanāṅgadinau śeṣe nikṣipya vipulau bhujau
12. saḥ vipulau mātaṅgabhujavarṣmāṇau jyākṣepakaṭhinatvacau
kāñcanāṅgadinau bhujau śeṣe nikṣipya (aste)
12. Having laid down his broad, mighty arms, which resembled elephant trunks in their strength, whose skin was hardened by the repeated drawing of the bowstring, and which were adorned with golden armlets, he rested.
व्यायम्य बहुधा नूनं सुखसुप्तः श्रमादिव ।
एवं विलपतीमार्तां न हि मामभिभाषसे ॥१३॥
13. vyāyamya bahudhā nūnaṁ sukhasuptaḥ śramādiva ,
evaṁ vilapatīmārtāṁ na hi māmabhibhāṣase.
13. vyāyamya bahudhā nūnam sukhasuptaḥ śramāt iva
evam vilapatīm ārtām na hi mām abhibhāṣase
13. nūnam bahudhā vyāyamya śramāt iva sukhasuptaḥ (asi).
evam ārtām vilapatīm mām hi na abhibhāṣase.
13. Surely, having exerted yourself greatly, you are sleeping soundly as if from exhaustion. Yet, though I am thus distressed and lamenting, you certainly do not speak to me!
आर्यामार्य सुभद्रां त्वमिमांश्च त्रिदशोपमान् ।
पितॄन्मां चैव दुःखार्तां विहाय क्व गमिष्यसि ॥१४॥
14. āryāmārya subhadrāṁ tvamimāṁśca tridaśopamān ,
pitṝnmāṁ caiva duḥkhārtāṁ vihāya kva gamiṣyasi.
14. āryām ārya subhadrām tvam imān ca tridaśopamān
pitṝn mām ca eva duḥkhārtām vihāya kva gamiṣyasi
14. ārya,
tvam imām āryām subhadrām imān ca tridaśopamān pitṝn duḥkhārtām mām ca eva vihāya kva gamiṣyasi?
14. O noble one, where will you go, abandoning this noble lady (āryā) Subhadra, and these fathers who are like gods, and even me, who am deeply sorrowful?
तस्य शोणितसंदिग्धान्केशानुन्नाम्य पाणिना ।
उत्सङ्गे वक्त्रमाधाय जीवन्तमिव पृच्छति ।
स्वस्रीयं वासुदेवस्य पुत्रं गाण्डीवधन्वनः ॥१५॥
15. tasya śoṇitasaṁdigdhānkeśānunnāmya pāṇinā ,
utsaṅge vaktramādhāya jīvantamiva pṛcchati ,
svasrīyaṁ vāsudevasya putraṁ gāṇḍīvadhanvanaḥ.
15. tasya śoṇitasaṃdigdhān keśān unnāmya
pāṇinā utsaṅge vaktram ādhāya
jīvantam iva pṛcchati svasrīyam
vāsudevasya putram gāṇḍīvadhanvanaḥ
15. sā tasya śoṇitasaṃdigdhān keśān pāṇinā unnāmya utsaṅge vaktram ādhāya jīvantam iva vāsudevasya svasrīyam gāṇḍīvadhanvanaḥ putram pṛcchati.
15. Raising his blood-stained hair with her hand, and placing his face on her lap, she (Uttara) asks him as if he were alive – her nephew (svasrījya) through Vasudeva (Krishna), the son of the wielder of the Gāṇḍīva bow (Arjuna).
कथं त्वां रणमध्यस्थं जघ्नुरेते महारथाः ।
धिगस्तु क्रूरकर्तॄंस्तान्कृपकर्णजयद्रथान् ॥१६॥
16. kathaṁ tvāṁ raṇamadhyasthaṁ jaghnurete mahārathāḥ ,
dhigastu krūrakartṝṁstānkṛpakarṇajayadrathān.
16. katham tvām raṇamadhyastham jaghnuḥ ete mahārathāḥ
| dhik astu krūrakartṝn tān kṛpakarṇajayadrathān
16. katham ete mahārathāḥ raṇamadhyastham tvām jaghnuḥ
tān kṛpakarṇajayadrathān krūrakartṝn dhik astu
16. How could these great warriors have slain you, who stood in the midst of battle? Shame upon those cruel perpetrators—Kṛpa, Karṇa, and Jayadratha!
द्रोणद्रौणायनी चोभौ यैरसि व्यसनीकृतः ।
रथर्षभाणां सर्वेषां कथमासीत्तदा मनः ॥१७॥
17. droṇadrauṇāyanī cobhau yairasi vyasanīkṛtaḥ ,
ratharṣabhāṇāṁ sarveṣāṁ kathamāsīttadā manaḥ.
17. droṇa drauṇāyani ca ubhau yaiḥ asi vyasanīkṛtaḥ
| ratharṣabhāṇām sarveṣām katham āsīt tadā manaḥ
17. yaiḥ droṇa drauṇāyani ca ubhau (taiḥ) tvam vyasanīkṛtaḥ
asi tadā sarveṣām ratharṣabhāṇām manaḥ katham āsīt?
17. By whom, including both Droṇa and Aśvatthāman (Drauṇāyani), you were brought to ruin; how then was the mind (manas) of all those chief charioteers at that time?
बालं त्वां परिवार्यैकं मम दुःखाय जघ्नुषाम् ।
कथं नु पाण्डवानां च पाञ्चालानां च पश्यताम् ।
त्वं वीर निधनं प्राप्तो नाथवान्सन्ननाथवत् ॥१८॥
18. bālaṁ tvāṁ parivāryaikaṁ mama duḥkhāya jaghnuṣām ,
kathaṁ nu pāṇḍavānāṁ ca pāñcālānāṁ ca paśyatām ,
tvaṁ vīra nidhanaṁ prāpto nāthavānsannanāthavat.
18. bālam tvām parivārya ekam mama duḥkhāya
jaghnuṣām | katham nu pāṇḍavānām ca
pāñcālānām ca paśyatām | tvam vīra
nidhanam prāptaḥ nāthavān san anāthavat
18. he vīra,
jaghnuṣām (śatṛṇām) (tvayā) bālam ekam tvām parivārya mama duḥkhāya,
pāṇḍavānām ca pāñcālānām ca paśyatām (api) nāthavān san,
tvam anāthavat katham nu nidhanam prāptaḥ?
18. O hero (vīra), how indeed could you, a single child, having been surrounded for my sorrow by those who killed you, have met your death (nidhanam) like one without a protector (anāthavat) while the Pāṇḍavas and Pāñcālas were watching, though you had protectors (nāthavān)?
दृष्ट्वा बहुभिराक्रन्दे निहतं त्वामनाथवत् ।
वीरः पुरुषशार्दूलः कथं जीवति पाण्डवः ॥१९॥
19. dṛṣṭvā bahubhirākrande nihataṁ tvāmanāthavat ,
vīraḥ puruṣaśārdūlaḥ kathaṁ jīvati pāṇḍavaḥ.
19. dṛṣṭvā bahubhiḥ āklande nihatam tvām anāthavat
| vīraḥ puruṣaśārdūlaḥ katham jīvati pāṇḍavaḥ
19. bahubhiḥ āklande anāthavat nihatam vīraḥ puruṣaśārdūlaḥ
tvām dṛṣṭvā (aham) pāṇḍavaḥ katham jīvati?
19. Having seen you, the hero and tiger among men (puruṣaśārdūlaḥ), slain helplessly (anāthavat) by many amidst the great uproar (āklande), how does this Pāṇḍava (i.e., Yudhiṣṭhira himself) still live?
न राज्यलाभो विपुलः शत्रूणां वा पराभवः ।
प्रीतिं दास्यति पार्थानां त्वामृते पुष्करेक्षण ॥२०॥
20. na rājyalābho vipulaḥ śatrūṇāṁ vā parābhavaḥ ,
prītiṁ dāsyati pārthānāṁ tvāmṛte puṣkarekṣaṇa.
20. na rājyalābhaḥ vipulaḥ śatrūṇām vā parābhavaḥ
prītim dāsyati pārthānām tvām ṛte puṣkarekṣaṇa
20. puṣkarekṣaṇa tvām ṛte vipulaḥ rājyalābhaḥ vā
śatrūṇām parābhavaḥ pārthānām prītim na dāsyati
20. O lotus-eyed one, without you, neither the vast gain of a kingdom nor the defeat of our enemies will bring joy to the Pāṇḍavas.
तव शस्त्रजिताँल्लोकान्धर्मेण च दमेन च ।
क्षिप्रमन्वागमिष्यामि तत्र मां प्रतिपालय ॥२१॥
21. tava śastrajitāँllokāndharmeṇa ca damena ca ,
kṣipramanvāgamiṣyāmi tatra māṁ pratipālaya.
21. tava śastrajitān lokān dharmeṇa ca damena ca
kṣipram anvāgamiṣyāmi tatra mām pratipālaya
21. tatra mām pratipālaya; aham tava śastrajitān
dharmeṇa ca damena ca lokān kṣipram anvāgamiṣyāmi
21. I will quickly follow you to those worlds which you have conquered through your weapons, and through natural law (dharma) and self-control; await me there.
दुर्मरं पुनरप्राप्ते काले भवति केनचित् ।
यदहं त्वां रणे दृष्ट्वा हतं जीवामि दुर्भगा ॥२२॥
22. durmaraṁ punaraprāpte kāle bhavati kenacit ,
yadahaṁ tvāṁ raṇe dṛṣṭvā hataṁ jīvāmi durbhagā.
22. durmaram punaḥ aprāpte kāle bhavati kenacit
yat aham tvām raṇe dṛṣṭvā hatam jīvāmi durbhagā
22. durbhagā,
aprāpte kāle kenacit punaḥ durmaram bhavati.
yat aham raṇe tvām hatam dṛṣṭvā jīvāmi
22. It is difficult for anyone to die before their appointed time has arrived. But alas, O wretched one, that I live after seeing you slain in battle.
कामिदानीं नरव्याघ्र श्लक्ष्णया स्मितया गिरा ।
पितृलोके समेत्यान्यां मामिवामन्त्रयिष्यसि ॥२३॥
23. kāmidānīṁ naravyāghra ślakṣṇayā smitayā girā ,
pitṛloke sametyānyāṁ māmivāmantrayiṣyasi.
23. kām idānīm naravyāghra ślakṣṇayā smitayā girā
pitṛloke sametya anyām mām iva āmantrayiṣyasi
23. naravyāghra,
pitṛloke sametya idānīm kām anyām mām iva ślakṣṇayā smitayā girā āmantrayiṣyasi
23. O tiger among men, having arrived in the world of ancestors (pitṛloka), whom will you now address with gentle, smiling words, just as you addressed me?
नूनमप्सरसां स्वर्गे मनांसि प्रमथिष्यसि ।
परमेण च रूपेण गिरा च स्मितपूर्वया ॥२४॥
24. nūnamapsarasāṁ svarge manāṁsi pramathiṣyasi ,
parameṇa ca rūpeṇa girā ca smitapūrvayā.
24. nūnam apsarasām svarge manāṃsi pramathiṣyasi
parameṇa ca rūpeṇa girā ca smitapūrvayā
24. nūnam apsarasām manāṃsi svarge parameṇa
rūpeṇa ca smitapūrvayā girā ca pramathiṣyasi
24. Certainly, you will agitate the minds of the Apsaras (celestial nymphs) in heaven with your supreme beauty and your speech, which is preceded by a smile.
प्राप्य पुण्यकृताँल्लोकानप्सरोभिः समेयिवान् ।
सौभद्र विहरन्काले स्मरेथाः सुकृतानि मे ॥२५॥
25. prāpya puṇyakṛtāँllokānapsarobhiḥ sameyivān ,
saubhadra viharankāle smarethāḥ sukṛtāni me.
25. prāpya puṇyakṛtān lokān apsarobhiḥ sameyivān
saubhadra viharan kāle smarethāḥ sukṛtāni me
25. saubhadra puṇyakṛtān lokān prāpya apsarobhiḥ
sameyivān kāle viharan me sukṛtāni smarethāḥ
25. O son of Subhadrā (Saubhadra), having reached the worlds of the meritorious and having joined the Apsaras (celestial nymphs), you should remember my good deeds while enjoying yourself there.
एतावानिह संवासो विहितस्ते मया सह ।
षण्मासान्सप्तमे मासि त्वं वीर निधनं गतः ॥२६॥
26. etāvāniha saṁvāso vihitaste mayā saha ,
ṣaṇmāsānsaptame māsi tvaṁ vīra nidhanaṁ gataḥ.
26. etāvān iha saṃvāsaḥ vihitaḥ te mayā saha
ṣaṇmāsān saptame māsi tvam vīra nidhanam gataḥ
26. vīra iha etāvān saṃvāsaḥ te mayā saha vihitaḥ
ṣaṇmāsān saptame māsi tvam nidhanam gataḥ
26. This is the extent of your dwelling here with me, ordained for you; after six months, in the seventh month, O hero, you will meet your death.
इत्युक्तवचनामेतामपकर्षन्ति दुःखिताम् ।
उत्तरां मोघसंकल्पां मत्स्यराजकुलस्त्रियः ॥२७॥
27. ityuktavacanāmetāmapakarṣanti duḥkhitām ,
uttarāṁ moghasaṁkalpāṁ matsyarājakulastriyaḥ.
27. iti uktavacanām etām apakarṣanti duḥkhitām
uttarām moghasaṃkalpām matsyarājakulasstriyaḥ
27. matsyarājakulasstriyaḥ iti uktavacanām duḥkhitām
moghasaṃkalpām etām uttarām apakarṣanti
27. The women of the Matsya king's family thus drag away this distressed Uttara, whose aspirations were in vain, after she had spoken these words.
उत्तरामपकृष्यैनामार्तामार्ततराः स्वयम् ।
विराटं निहतं दृष्ट्वा क्रोशन्ति विलपन्ति च ॥२८॥
28. uttarāmapakṛṣyaināmārtāmārtatarāḥ svayam ,
virāṭaṁ nihataṁ dṛṣṭvā krośanti vilapanti ca.
28. uttarām apakṛṣya enām ārtām ārtatarāḥ svayam
virāṭam nihatam dṛṣṭvā krośanti vilapanti ca
28. ārtatarāḥ svayam nihataṃ virāṭaṃ dṛṣṭvā,
ārtām enām uttarām apakṛṣya,
krośanti ca vilapanti
28. Seeing Virata killed, they themselves, even more distressed, pulled away the distressed Uttara, and cried out and lamented.
द्रोणास्त्रशरसंकृत्तं शयानं रुधिरोक्षितम् ।
विराटं वितुदन्त्येते गृध्रगोमायुवायसाः ॥२९॥
29. droṇāstraśarasaṁkṛttaṁ śayānaṁ rudhirokṣitam ,
virāṭaṁ vitudantyete gṛdhragomāyuvāyasāḥ.
29. droṇāstraśarasaṃkṛttam śayānam rudhirokṣitam
virāṭam vitudanti ete gṛdhragomāyuvāyasāḥ
29. ete gṛdhragomāyuvāyasāḥ,

29. These vultures, jackals, and crows peck at Virata, who lies drenched in blood, cut down by Drona's weapon-arrows.
वितुद्यमानं विहगैर्विराटमसितेक्षणाः ।
न शक्नुवन्ति विवशा निवर्तयितुमातुराः ॥३०॥
30. vitudyamānaṁ vihagairvirāṭamasitekṣaṇāḥ ,
na śaknuvanti vivaśā nivartayitumāturāḥ.

30. Helpless and distressed, the dark-eyed women are unable to repel the birds that are pecking at Virata.
आसामातपतप्तानामायासेन च योषिताम् ।
श्रमेण च विवर्णानां रूपाणां विगतं वपुः ॥३१॥
31. āsāmātapataptānāmāyāsena ca yoṣitām ,
śrameṇa ca vivarṇānāṁ rūpāṇāṁ vigataṁ vapuḥ.
31. āsām ātataptānām āyāsena ca yoṣitām
śrameṇa ca vivarṇānām rūpāṇām vigatam vapuḥ
31. ātapataptānām āyāsena ca śrameṇa ca vivarṇānām āsām yoṣitām,
rūpāṇām vapuḥ vigatam
31. The bodily beauty of these women, scorched by the sun and discolored by exertion and fatigue, has vanished.
उत्तरं चाभिमन्युं च काम्बोजं च सुदक्षिणम् ।
शिशूनेतान्हतान्पश्य लक्ष्मणं च सुदर्शनम् ।
आयोधनशिरोमध्ये शयानं पश्य माधव ॥३२॥
32. uttaraṁ cābhimanyuṁ ca kāmbojaṁ ca sudakṣiṇam ,
śiśūnetānhatānpaśya lakṣmaṇaṁ ca sudarśanam ,
āyodhanaśiromadhye śayānaṁ paśya mādhava.
32. uttaram ca abhimanyuṃ ca kāmbojam
ca sudakṣiṇam śiśūn etān hatān paśya
lakṣmaṇaṃ ca sudarśanam āyodhanashiraḥ
madhye śayānam paśya mādhava
32. mādhava uttaram ca abhimanyuṃ ca
kāmbojam ca sudakṣiṇam etān śiśūn
hatān paśya lakṣmaṇaṃ ca sudarśanam
āyodhanashiraḥ madhye śayānam paśya
32. O Madhava, behold these slain children: Uttara, Abhimanyu, Kambhoja, and Sudakshina. And see Lakshmana and Sudarshana lying in the very heart of the battlefield.
