1.
Draupadi spoke: 'O descendant of Bharata, this indeed is my great sorrow (duḥkha) which I am about to relate. No ill-will (abhyasūyā) should be held against me; I say this out of grief.'

2.
When you used to fight with tigers, buffaloes, and lions in the arena, while Kaikeyi was watching, then I would experience a feeling of great distress (kaśmala).

3.
And Kaikeyi, having risen to observe, would also speak to those women, after seeing me, the faultless-limbed one, as if I were overcome by distress.

I believe that this pure-smiling one (Draupadi), out of affection arising from our shared residence, grieves for this cook (Bhīma), who is being tormented by mighty heroes.

Sairandhrī is of a beautiful form, and Ballava is exceedingly handsome. Furthermore, the minds of women are hard to know; in my opinion, these two appear well-matched.

Sairandhrī, because of their affectionate association, constantly experiences compassion. And these two have been residing in this royal palace for the same period.

As she spoke thus, great sorrow (duḥkham) seized me. Plunged into grief (śoka) for Yudhiṣṭhira, I have no desire to live.

Surely, the revered lady (Kunti) does not know the great hardship that Dhanañjaya (Arjuna) has endured, nor of Ajātaśatru (Yudhiṣṭhira), the scion of Kuru, who is steeped in misery after playing that disastrous game of dice.

31.
He who was always endowed with three (qualities) – beauty, skill in weaponry, and intelligence – that very one is now the horse-binder of Virāṭa. Behold the reversal of time!

32.
Crowds gathered around, watching him tie the rope. Look at him controlling the horses with speed, in the presence of the great king.

33.
I saw him — glorious, excellent, and brilliant — serving Virāṭa, the Matsya king, and showing the horses.

34.
O Pārtha, tormentor of foes, what do you think of me? Do you consider me happy? Indeed, I am beset by hundreds of sorrows because of Yudhiṣṭhira.
अतः प्रतिविशिष्टानि दुःखान्यन्यानि भारत ।

35.
Therefore, O Bhārata, O son of Kuntī, other especially distinct miseries are present in me. I will tell you about them; please listen to those as well.

36.
While you (all) are living, various miseries indeed are drying up my body. What greater suffering (duḥkha) could there possibly be than this?
