वैशंपायन उवाच ।
विदुरेणैवमुक्ते तु केशवः शत्रुपूगहा ।
दुर्योधनं धार्तराष्ट्रमभ्यभाषत वीर्यवान् ॥१॥
1. vaiśaṁpāyana uvāca ,
vidureṇaivamukte tu keśavaḥ śatrupūgahā ,
duryodhanaṁ dhārtarāṣṭramabhyabhāṣata vīryavān.

1. Vaiśaṃpāyana said: When Vidura had thus spoken (evam ukte), then the valiant (vīryavān) Keśava, the destroyer of enemy hosts (śatrupūgahā), addressed Duryodhana, the son of Dhṛtarāṣṭra (Dhārtarāṣṭram).
एकोऽहमिति यन्मोहान्मन्यसे मां सुयोधन ।
परिभूय च दुर्बुद्धे ग्रहीतुं मां चिकीर्षसि ॥२॥
2. eko'hamiti yanmohānmanyase māṁ suyodhana ,
paribhūya ca durbuddhe grahītuṁ māṁ cikīrṣasi.
2. ekaḥ aham iti yat mohāt manyase mām suyodhana
paribhūya ca durbuddhe grahītum mām cikīrṣasi
2. suyodhana durbuddhe yat mohāt aham ekaḥ iti
mām manyase ca mām paribhūya grahītum cikīrṣasi
2. O Suyodhana, because you foolishly (mohāt) think, "I am alone," and, O evil-minded one (durbuddhe), having slighted me, you intend to seize me.
इहैव पाण्डवाः सर्वे तथैवान्धकवृष्णयः ।
इहादित्याश्च रुद्राश्च वसवश्च महर्षिभिः ॥३॥
3. ihaiva pāṇḍavāḥ sarve tathaivāndhakavṛṣṇayaḥ ,
ihādityāśca rudrāśca vasavaśca maharṣibhiḥ.
3. iha eva pāṇḍavāḥ sarve tathā eva andhakavṛṣṇayaḥ
| iha ādityāḥ ca rudrāḥ ca vasavaḥ ca maharṣibhiḥ

3. Here, indeed, are all the Pāṇḍavas, and similarly the Andhakas and Vṛṣṇis. Here are the Adityas, Rudras, and Vasus, along with the great sages.
एवमुक्त्वा जहासोच्चैः केशवः परवीरहा ।
तस्य संस्मयतः शौरेर्विद्युद्रूपा महात्मनः ।
अङ्गुष्ठमात्रास्त्रिदशा मुमुचुः पावकार्चिषः ॥४॥
4. evamuktvā jahāsoccaiḥ keśavaḥ paravīrahā ,
tasya saṁsmayataḥ śaurervidyudrūpā mahātmanaḥ ,
aṅguṣṭhamātrāstridaśā mumucuḥ pāvakārciṣaḥ.
4. evam uktvā jahāsa uccaiḥ keśavaḥ
paravīrahā | tasya saṃsmayataḥ śaureḥ
vidyutrūpāḥ mahātmanaḥ | aṅguṣṭhamātrāḥ

4. keśavaḥ paravīrahā evam uktvā uccaiḥ
jahāsa tasya mahātmanaḥ śaureḥ
saṃsmayataḥ vidyutrūpāḥ aṅguṣṭhamātrāḥ
tridaśāḥ pāvakārcīṣaḥ mumucuḥ
4. Having spoken thus, Keśava, the slayer of heroic enemies, laughed loudly. As that great-souled Śauri was smiling, the deities (tridaśāḥ), thumb-sized and of lightning-like form, emitted fiery rays.
तस्य ब्रह्मा ललाटस्थो रुद्रो वक्षसि चाभवत् ।
लोकपाला भुजेष्वासन्नग्निरास्यादजायत ॥५॥
5. tasya brahmā lalāṭastho rudro vakṣasi cābhavat ,
lokapālā bhujeṣvāsannagnirāsyādajāyata.

| lokapālāḥ bhujesu āsann agniḥ āsyāt ajāyata

5. Brahmā was on his forehead, Rudra on his chest. The protectors of the worlds (lokapālas) were in his arms, and Agni was born from his mouth.
आदित्याश्चैव साध्याश्च वसवोऽथाश्विनावपि ।
मरुतश्च सहेन्द्रेण विश्वेदेवास्तथैव च ।
बभूवुश्चैव रूपाणि यक्षगन्धर्वरक्षसाम् ॥६॥
6. ādityāścaiva sādhyāśca vasavo'thāśvināvapi ,
marutaśca sahendreṇa viśvedevāstathaiva ca ,
babhūvuścaiva rūpāṇi yakṣagandharvarakṣasām.
6. ādityāḥ ca eva sādhyāḥ ca vasavaḥ atha
aśvinau api | marutaḥ ca saha indreṇa
viśvedevāḥ tathā eva ca | babhūvuḥ
ca eva rūpāṇi yakṣagandharvarakṣasām

yakṣagandharvarakṣasām rūpāṇi ca eva babhūvuḥ
6. And the Adityas, the Sadhyas, the Vasus, and also the two Ashvins. And the Maruts with Indra, and the Viśvedevas as well. And the forms of Yakshas, Gandharvas, and Rakshasas also came into being.
प्रादुरास्तां तथा दोर्भ्यां संकर्षणधनंजयौ ।
दक्षिणेऽथार्जुनो धन्वी हली रामश्च सव्यतः ॥७॥
7. prādurāstāṁ tathā dorbhyāṁ saṁkarṣaṇadhanaṁjayau ,
dakṣiṇe'thārjuno dhanvī halī rāmaśca savyataḥ.
7. prāduḥ āstām tathā dorbhyām saṃkarṣaṇa-dhanañjayau
| dakṣiṇe atha arjunaḥ dhanvī halī rāmaḥ ca savyataḥ
7. tathā saṃkarṣaṇa-dhanañjayau dorbhyām prāduḥ āstām
atha dakṣiṇe arjunaḥ dhanvī ca savyataḥ halī rāmaḥ
7. Thus, Saṃkarṣaṇa and Arjuna (Dhananjaya) appeared with their arms ready. Then, on the right stood Arjuna, the archer, and on the left stood Balarāma (Hali), the wielder of the plough.
भीमो युधिष्ठिरश्चैव माद्रीपुत्रौ च पृष्ठतः ।
अन्धका वृष्णयश्चैव प्रद्युम्नप्रमुखास्ततः ॥८॥
8. bhīmo yudhiṣṭhiraścaiva mādrīputrau ca pṛṣṭhataḥ ,
andhakā vṛṣṇayaścaiva pradyumnapramukhāstataḥ.
8. bhīmaḥ yudhiṣṭhiraḥ ca eva mādrīputrau ca pṛṣṭhataḥ
| andhakāḥ vṛṣṇayaḥ ca eva pradyumna-pramukhāḥ tataḥ

8. Bhīma, Yudhiṣṭhira, and the two sons of Mādrī (Nakula and Sahadeva) were positioned behind them. Then, the Andhakas and Vṛṣṇis, led by Pradyumna, were present.
अग्रे बभूवुः कृष्णस्य समुद्यतमहायुधाः ।
शङ्खचक्रगदाशक्तिशार्ङ्गलाङ्गलनन्दकाः ॥९॥
9. agre babhūvuḥ kṛṣṇasya samudyatamahāyudhāḥ ,
śaṅkhacakragadāśaktiśārṅgalāṅgalanandakāḥ.
9. agre babhūvuḥ kṛṣṇasya samudyata-mahā-āyudhāḥ |
śaṅkha-cakra-gadā-śakti-śārṅga-lāṅgala-nandakāḥ
9. kṛṣṇasya agre samudyata-mahā-āyudhāḥ babhūvuḥ
śaṅkha-cakra-gadā-śakti-śārṅga-lāṅgala-nandakāḥ
9. In front of Krishna, they stood, holding great weapons aloft. These included conches, discuses, maces, spears, the Śārṅga bow, ploughs, and the Nandaka sword.
अदृश्यन्तोद्यतान्येव सर्वप्रहरणानि च ।
नानाबाहुषु कृष्णस्य दीप्यमानानि सर्वशः ॥१०॥
10. adṛśyantodyatānyeva sarvapraharaṇāni ca ,
nānābāhuṣu kṛṣṇasya dīpyamānāni sarvaśaḥ.
10. adṛśyanta udyatāni eva sarva-praharaṇāni ca
| nānā-bāhuṣu kṛṣṇasya dīpyamānāni sarvaśaḥ
10. ca kṛṣṇasya nānā-bāhuṣu sarva-praharaṇāni
udyatāni eva sarvaśaḥ dīpyamānāni adṛśyanta
10. And all the weapons, uplifted and shining everywhere in Krishna's numerous arms, were seen.
नेत्राभ्यां नस्ततश्चैव श्रोत्राभ्यां च समन्ततः ।
प्रादुरासन्महारौद्राः सधूमाः पावकार्चिषः ।
रोमकूपेषु च तथा सूर्यस्येव मरीचयः ॥११॥
11. netrābhyāṁ nastataścaiva śrotrābhyāṁ ca samantataḥ ,
prādurāsanmahāraudrāḥ sadhūmāḥ pāvakārciṣaḥ ,
romakūpeṣu ca tathā sūryasyeva marīcayaḥ.
11. netrābhyām naḥ tataḥ ca eva śrotrābhyām
ca samantataḥ prādurāsan
mahāraudrāḥ sadhūmāḥ pāvakārcīṣaḥ romakūpeṣu
ca tathā sūryasya iva marīcayaḥ
11. naḥ netrābhyām ca śrotrābhyām ca
samantataḥ ca eva tataḥ mahāraudrāḥ
sadhūmāḥ pāvakārcīṣaḥ prādurāsan tathā
romakūpeṣu ca sūryasya iva marīcayaḥ
11. Exceedingly terrifying, smoky flames of fire emerged from our eyes and ears, and from all directions around us. Similarly, from the pores of our skin, rays appeared like those of the sun.
तं दृष्ट्वा घोरमात्मानं केशवस्य महात्मनः ।
न्यमीलयन्त नेत्राणि राजानस्त्रस्तचेतसः ॥१२॥
12. taṁ dṛṣṭvā ghoramātmānaṁ keśavasya mahātmanaḥ ,
nyamīlayanta netrāṇi rājānastrastacetasaḥ.
12. tam dṛṣṭvā ghoram ātmānam keśavasya mahātmanaḥ
nyamīlayanta netrāṇi rājānaḥ trastacetasaḥ
12. rājānaḥ trastacetasaḥ keśavasya mahātmanaḥ
tam ghoram ātmānam dṛṣṭvā netrāṇi nyamīlayanta
12. Seeing that terrifying form (ātman) of the great-souled Keśava, the kings, with their minds filled with dread, closed their eyes.
ऋते द्रोणं च भीष्मं च विदुरं च महामतिम् ।
संजयं च महाभागमृषींश्चैव तपोधनान् ।
प्रादात्तेषां स भगवान्दिव्यं चक्षुर्जनार्दनः ॥१३॥
13. ṛte droṇaṁ ca bhīṣmaṁ ca viduraṁ ca mahāmatim ,
saṁjayaṁ ca mahābhāgamṛṣīṁścaiva tapodhanān ,
prādātteṣāṁ sa bhagavāndivyaṁ cakṣurjanārdanaḥ.
13. ṛte droṇam ca bhīṣmam ca viduram ca
mahāmatim saṃjayam ca mahābhāgam
ṛṣīn ca eva tapodhanān prādāt teṣām
saḥ bhagavān divyam cakṣuḥ janārdanaḥ
13. bhagavān janārdanaḥ saḥ droṇam ca bhīṣmam ca mahāmatim viduram ca mahābhāgam saṃjayam ca tapodhanān ṛṣīn ca eva ṛte,
teṣām divyam cakṣuḥ prādāt
13. Lord Janārdana, the divine (bhagavān), then granted divine sight to those present, excluding Droṇa, Bhīṣma, the great-minded Vidura, the highly fortunate Saṃjaya, and the sages whose wealth was austerity (tapas).
तद्दृष्ट्वा महदाश्चर्यं माधवस्य सभातले ।
देवदुन्दुभयो नेदुः पुष्पवर्षं पपात च ॥१४॥
14. taddṛṣṭvā mahadāścaryaṁ mādhavasya sabhātale ,
devadundubhayo neduḥ puṣpavarṣaṁ papāta ca.
14. tat dṛṣṭvā mahat āścaryam mādhavasya sabhātale
devadundubhayaḥ neduḥ puṣpavarṣam papāta ca
14. sabhātale mādhavasya tat mahat āścaryam dṛṣṭvā
devadundubhayaḥ neduḥ ca puṣpavarṣam papāta
14. After witnessing that great marvel of Mādhava in the assembly hall, divine drums resounded, and a shower of flowers also fell.
चचाल च मही कृत्स्ना सागरश्चापि चुक्षुभे ।
विस्मयं परमं जग्मुः पार्थिवा भरतर्षभ ॥१५॥
15. cacāla ca mahī kṛtsnā sāgaraścāpi cukṣubhe ,
vismayaṁ paramaṁ jagmuḥ pārthivā bharatarṣabha.
15. cacāla ca mahī kṛtsnā sāgaraḥ ca api cukṣubhe
vismayam paramam jagmuḥ pārthivāḥ bharatarṣabha
15. bharatarṣabha kṛtsnā mahī caāla ca sāgaraḥ
api cukṣubhe pārthivāḥ paramam vismayam jagmuḥ
15. O best among the Bharatas, the entire earth trembled, and the ocean also became agitated. The kings were filled with great astonishment.
ततः स पुरुषव्याघ्रः संजहार वपुः स्वकम् ।
तां दिव्यामद्भुतां चित्रामृद्धिमत्तामरिंदमः ॥१६॥
16. tataḥ sa puruṣavyāghraḥ saṁjahāra vapuḥ svakam ,
tāṁ divyāmadbhutāṁ citrāmṛddhimattāmariṁdamaḥ.
16. tataḥ saḥ puruṣavyāghraḥ saṃjahāra vapuḥ svakam
tām divyām adbhutām citrām ṛddhimattām ariṃdamaḥ
16. ariṃdamaḥ tataḥ saḥ puruṣavyāghraḥ svakam vapuḥ
tām divyām adbhutām citrām ṛddhimattām saṃjahāra
16. Then, O subduer of foes, that tiger among men (Kṛṣṇa) withdrew his own body, that divine, astonishing, variegated, and splendid manifestation.
ततः सात्यकिमादाय पाणौ हार्दिक्यमेव च ।
ऋषिभिस्तैरनुज्ञातो निर्ययौ मधुसूदनः ॥१७॥
17. tataḥ sātyakimādāya pāṇau hārdikyameva ca ,
ṛṣibhistairanujñāto niryayau madhusūdanaḥ.
17. tataḥ sātyakim ādāya pāṇau hārdikyam eva ca
ṛṣibhiḥ taiḥ anujñātaḥ niryayau madhusūdanaḥ
17. tataḥ madhusūdanaḥ sātyakim hārdikyam eva ca
pāṇau ādāya taiḥ ṛṣibhiḥ anujñātaḥ niryayau
17. Then Madhusūdana, having taken Satyaki and also Hardikya by the hand, and having been permitted by those sages, departed.
ऋषयोऽन्तर्हिता जग्मुस्ततस्ते नारदादयः ।
तस्मिन्कोलाहले वृत्ते तदद्भुतमभूत्तदा ॥१८॥
18. ṛṣayo'ntarhitā jagmustataste nāradādayaḥ ,
tasminkolāhale vṛtte tadadbhutamabhūttadā.
18. ṛṣayaḥ antarhitāḥ jagmuḥ tataḥ te nāradādayaḥ
tasmin kolāhale vṛtte tat adbhutam abhūt tadā
18. tataḥ te nāradādayaḥ ṛṣayaḥ antarhitāḥ jagmuḥ
tasmin kolāhale vṛtte tat adbhutam tadā abhūt
18. Then those sages, led by Narada, disappeared. When that tumult had occurred, that astonishing event manifested itself at that time.
तं प्रस्थितमभिप्रेक्ष्य कौरवाः सह राजभिः ।
अनुजग्मुर्नरव्याघ्रं देवा इव शतक्रतुम् ॥१९॥
19. taṁ prasthitamabhiprekṣya kauravāḥ saha rājabhiḥ ,
anujagmurnaravyāghraṁ devā iva śatakratum.
19. tam prasthitam abhiprekṣya kauravāḥ saha rājabhiḥ
anujagmuḥ naravyāghram devāḥ iva śatakratum
19. kauravāḥ rājabhiḥ saha prasthitam naravyāghram
tam abhiprekṣya devāḥ śatakratum iva anujagmuḥ
19. Upon seeing that tiger among men (Kṛṣṇa) depart, the Kauravas, along with the kings, followed him, just as the gods follow Indra.
अचिन्तयन्नमेयात्मा सर्वं तद्राजमण्डलम् ।
निश्चक्राम ततः शौरिः सधूम इव पावकः ॥२०॥
20. acintayannameyātmā sarvaṁ tadrājamaṇḍalam ,
niścakrāma tataḥ śauriḥ sadhūma iva pāvakaḥ.
20. acintayan ameyātmā sarvam tat rājamaṇḍalam
niścakrāma tataḥ śauriḥ sadhūmaḥ iva pāvakaḥ
20. ameyātmā tat sarvam rājamaṇḍalam acintayan
tataḥ śauriḥ sadhūmaḥ pāvakaḥ iva niścakrāma
20. He of immeasurable mind (Kṛṣṇa) did not regard that entire assembly of kings. Then Kṛṣṇa departed, like fire accompanied by smoke.
ततो रथेन शुभ्रेण महता किङ्किणीकिना ।
हेमजालविचित्रेण लघुना मेघनादिना ॥२१॥
21. tato rathena śubhreṇa mahatā kiṅkiṇīkinā ,
hemajālavicitreṇa laghunā meghanādinā.
21. tataḥ rathena śubhreṇa mahatā kiṅkiṇīkinā
hemajālavicitreṇa laghunā meghanādinā
21. tataḥ śubhreṇa mahatā kiṅkiṇīkinā

21. Then, by a splendid, grand chariot, adorned with tinkling bells, variegated with golden nets, and swift, thundering like a cloud...
सूपस्करेण शुभ्रेण वैयाघ्रेण वरूथिना ।
सैन्यसुग्रीवयुक्तेन प्रत्यदृश्यत दारुकः ॥२२॥
22. sūpaskareṇa śubhreṇa vaiyāghreṇa varūthinā ,
sainyasugrīvayuktena pratyadṛśyata dārukaḥ.

sainyasugrīvayuktena pratyadṛśyata dārukaḥ
22. dārukaḥ sūpaskareṇa śubhreṇa vaiyāghreṇa

22. ...(the chariot, which was) well-equipped, splendid, clad in tiger-skin, and with a protective casing, yoked with the horses Sainya and Sugrīva – by that chariot, Dāruka appeared.
तथैव रथमास्थाय कृतवर्मा महारथः ।
वृष्णीनां संमतो वीरो हार्दिक्यः प्रत्यदृश्यत ॥२३॥
23. tathaiva rathamāsthāya kṛtavarmā mahārathaḥ ,
vṛṣṇīnāṁ saṁmato vīro hārdikyaḥ pratyadṛśyata.
23. tathā eva ratham āsthāya kṛtavarmā mahārathaḥ
vṛṣṇīnām sammataḥ vīraḥ hārdikyaḥ pratyadṛśyata
23. kṛtavarmā mahārathaḥ vṛṣṇīnām sammataḥ vīraḥ
hārdikyaḥ tathā eva ratham āsthāya pratyadṛśyata
23. Just so, Kṛtavarmā, the great warrior, the hero esteemed by the Vṛṣṇis (vṛṣṇīnām), also appeared, having mounted his chariot.
उपस्थितरथं शौरिं प्रयास्यन्तमरिंदमम् ।
धृतराष्ट्रो महाराजः पुनरेवाभ्यभाषत ॥२४॥
24. upasthitarathaṁ śauriṁ prayāsyantamariṁdamam ,
dhṛtarāṣṭro mahārājaḥ punarevābhyabhāṣata.
24. upasthitaratham śaurim prayāsyantam ariṃdamam
dhṛtarāṣṭraḥ mahārājaḥ punar eva abhyabhāṣata
24. dhṛtarāṣṭraḥ mahārājaḥ punar eva upasthitaratham
prayāsyantam ariṃdamam śaurim abhyabhāṣata
24. Then, King Dhṛtarāṣṭra (dhṛtarāṣṭraḥ), the great monarch, spoke again to Śauri (śauriṃ), the subduer of enemies, who was ready to depart in his chariot.
यावद्बलं मे पुत्रेषु पश्यस्येतज्जनार्दन ।
प्रत्यक्षं ते न ते किंचित्परोक्षं शत्रुकर्शन ॥२५॥
25. yāvadbalaṁ me putreṣu paśyasyetajjanārdana ,
pratyakṣaṁ te na te kiṁcitparokṣaṁ śatrukarśana.
25. yāvat balam me putreṣu paśyasi etat janārdana
pratyakṣam te na te kiṃcit parokṣam śatrukaraśana
25. janārdana śatrukaraśana yāvat balam me putreṣu etat paśyasi,
te pratyakṣam,
te kiṃcit na parokṣam
25. O Janārdana (janārdana), whatever strength you witness in my sons, O Destroyer of enemies (śatrukaraśana), this is directly perceptible to you; nothing is beyond your sight.
कुरूणां शममिच्छन्तं यतमानं च केशव ।
विदित्वैतामवस्थां मे नातिशङ्कितुमर्हसि ॥२६॥
26. kurūṇāṁ śamamicchantaṁ yatamānaṁ ca keśava ,
viditvaitāmavasthāṁ me nātiśaṅkitumarhasi.
26. kurūṇām śamam icchantaṃ yatamānam ca keśava
viditvā etām avasthām me na atiśaṅkitum arhasi
26. keśava me kurūṇām śamam icchantaṃ ca yatamānam
etām avasthām viditvā na atiśaṅkitum arhasi
26. O Keśava (keśava), knowing this state of mine – that I desire peace for the Kurus and am striving for it – you should not be overly suspicious.
न मे पापोऽस्त्यभिप्रायः पाण्डवान्प्रति केशव ।
ज्ञातमेव हि ते वाक्यं यन्मयोक्तः सुयोधनः ॥२७॥
27. na me pāpo'styabhiprāyaḥ pāṇḍavānprati keśava ,
jñātameva hi te vākyaṁ yanmayoktaḥ suyodhanaḥ.
27. na me pāpaḥ asti abhiprāyaḥ pāṇḍavān prati keśava
jñātam eva hi te vākyam yat mayā uktaḥ suyodhanaḥ
27. keśava,
me pāpaḥ abhiprāyaḥ pāṇḍavān prati na asti.
mayā yat vākyam suyodhanaḥ uktaḥ,

27. O Keśava, I have no evil intention towards the Pāṇḍavas. Indeed, the words I spoke to Suyodhana are well known to you.
जानन्ति कुरवः सर्वे राजानश्चैव पार्थिवाः ।
शमे प्रयतमानं मां सर्वयत्नेन माधव ॥२८॥
28. jānanti kuravaḥ sarve rājānaścaiva pārthivāḥ ,
śame prayatamānaṁ māṁ sarvayatnena mādhava.

28. O Mādhava, all the Kurus, as well as the kings and rulers, know that I am striving for peace with all my effort.
ततोऽब्रवीन्महाबाहुर्धृतराष्ट्रं जनेश्वरम् ।
द्रोणं पितामहं भीष्मं क्षत्तारं बाह्लिकं कृपम् ॥२९॥
29. tato'bravīnmahābāhurdhṛtarāṣṭraṁ janeśvaram ,
droṇaṁ pitāmahaṁ bhīṣmaṁ kṣattāraṁ bāhlikaṁ kṛpam.

droṇam pitāmaham bhīṣmam kṣattāram bāhlikam kṛpam

29. Thereupon, the mighty-armed one spoke to Dhṛtarāṣṭra, the lord of men, and to Droṇa, to the grandsire Bhīṣma, to Vidura (kṣattār), to Bāhlika, and to Kṛpa.
प्रत्यक्षमेतद्भवतां यद्वृत्तं कुरुसंसदि ।
यथा चाशिष्टवन्मन्दो रोषादसकृदुत्थितः ॥३०॥
30. pratyakṣametadbhavatāṁ yadvṛttaṁ kurusaṁsadi ,
yathā cāśiṣṭavanmando roṣādasakṛdutthitaḥ.
30. pratyakṣam etat bhavatām yat vṛttam kuru-saṃsadi
yathā ca aśiṣṭavat mandaḥ roṣāt asakṛt utthitaḥ
30. etat bhavatām pratyakṣam,
yat kuru-saṃsadi vṛttam,
ca yathā mandaḥ roṣāt aśiṣṭavat asakṛt utthitaḥ.
30. This is evident to all of you: what transpired in the Kuru assembly, and how that foolish one (Duryodhana), acting impolitely, repeatedly rose up in anger.
वदत्यनीशमात्मानं धृतराष्ट्रो महीपतिः ।
आपृच्छे भवतः सर्वान्गमिष्यामि युधिष्ठिरम् ॥३१॥
31. vadatyanīśamātmānaṁ dhṛtarāṣṭro mahīpatiḥ ,
āpṛcche bhavataḥ sarvāngamiṣyāmi yudhiṣṭhiram.
31. vadati anīśam ātmānam dhṛtarāṣṭraḥ mahīpatiḥ
āpṛcche bhavataḥ sarvān gamiṣyāmi Yudhiṣṭhiram

31. King Dhritarashtra declares himself helpless (ātman). I bid farewell to all of you, for I will go to Yudhishthira.
आमन्त्र्य प्रस्थितं शौरिं रथस्थं पुरुषर्षभम् ।
अनुजग्मुर्महेष्वासाः प्रवीरा भरतर्षभाः ॥३२॥
32. āmantrya prasthitaṁ śauriṁ rathasthaṁ puruṣarṣabham ,
anujagmurmaheṣvāsāḥ pravīrā bharatarṣabhāḥ.

32. Having bid farewell to Shauri, that best of men (puruṣa) who was mounted on his chariot and had set forth, the great archers, eminent heroes, and best of the Bharatas followed him.
भीष्मो द्रोणः कृपः क्षत्ता धृतराष्ट्रोऽथ बाह्लिकः ।
अश्वत्थामा विकर्णश्च युयुत्सुश्च महारथः ॥३३॥
33. bhīṣmo droṇaḥ kṛpaḥ kṣattā dhṛtarāṣṭro'tha bāhlikaḥ ,
aśvatthāmā vikarṇaśca yuyutsuśca mahārathaḥ.

33. Bhishma, Drona, Kripa, Vidura (kṣattā), Dhritarashtra, and then Bahlika; Ashwatthama, Vikarna, and Yuyutsu, the great warrior (mahāratha).
ततो रथेन शुभ्रेण महता किङ्किणीकिना ।
कुरूणां पश्यतां प्रायात्पृथां द्रष्टुं पितृष्वसाम् ॥३४॥
34. tato rathena śubhreṇa mahatā kiṅkiṇīkinā ,
kurūṇāṁ paśyatāṁ prāyātpṛthāṁ draṣṭuṁ pitṛṣvasām.

34. Then, in a splendid, grand chariot adorned with small bells, while the Kurus watched, he departed to see his paternal aunt, Pritha (Kunti).
