ततः स विदितो राज्ञः प्रविश्य गृहमुत्तमम् ।
पूजितो राक्षसेन्द्रेण निषसादासनोत्तमे ॥१॥

1. Bhishma said: Then he, recognized by the king, having entered the excellent palace, was honored by the lord of Rākṣasas and sat down on the best seat.
पृष्टश्च गोत्रचरणं स्वाध्यायं ब्रह्मचारिकम् ।
न तत्र व्याजहारान्यद्गोत्रमात्रादृते द्विजः ॥२॥
2. pṛṣṭaśca gotracaraṇaṁ svādhyāyaṁ brahmacārikam ,
na tatra vyājahārānyadgotramātrādṛte dvijaḥ.
2. pṛṣṭaḥ ca gotracaraṇam svādhyāyam brahmacārikam
na tatra vyājahāra anyat gotramātrāt ṛte dvijaḥ

2. And questioned about his family lineage (gotra), conduct, Vedic study (svādhyāya), and celibate student life, the Brahmin (dvija) did not say anything there except his family name (gotra).
ब्रह्मवर्चसहीनस्य स्वाध्यायविरतस्य च ।
गोत्रमात्रविदो राजा निवासं समपृच्छत ॥३॥
3. brahmavarcasahīnasya svādhyāyaviratasya ca ,
gotramātravido rājā nivāsaṁ samapṛcchata.

3. The king then asked the residence of one who was devoid of spiritual radiance, had ceased from Vedic study (svādhyāya), and knew only his family name (gotra).
क्व ते निवासः कल्याण किंगोत्रा ब्राह्मणी च ते ।
तत्त्वं ब्रूहि न भीः कार्या विश्रमस्व यथासुखम् ॥४॥
4. kva te nivāsaḥ kalyāṇa kiṁgotrā brāhmaṇī ca te ,
tattvaṁ brūhi na bhīḥ kāryā viśramasva yathāsukham.
4. kva te nivāsaḥ kalyāṇa kim gotrā brāhmaṇī ca te
tattvam brūhi na bhīḥ kāryā viśramasva yathāsukham

4. O auspicious one, where is your dwelling? And of what lineage (gotra) is your Brahmin wife? Tell the truth; there is no need to fear. Rest at your ease.
गौतम उवाच ।
मध्यदेशप्रसूतोऽहं वासो मे शबरालये ।
शूद्रा पुनर्भूर्भार्या मे सत्यमेतद्ब्रवीमि ते ॥५॥
5. gautama uvāca ,
madhyadeśaprasūto'haṁ vāso me śabarālaye ,
śūdrā punarbhūrbhāryā me satyametadbravīmi te.

śūdrā punarbhūḥ bhāryā me satyam etat bravīmi te

5. Gautama said: 'I was born in the middle country, and my dwelling is in the abode of a Śabara. My wife is a Śūdra woman, a remarried one. I tell you this truth.'
भीष्म उवाच ।
ततो राजा विममृशे कथं कार्यमिदं भवेत् ।
कथं वा सुकृतं मे स्यादिति बुद्ध्यान्वचिन्तयत् ॥६॥
6. bhīṣma uvāca ,
tato rājā vimamṛśe kathaṁ kāryamidaṁ bhavet ,
kathaṁ vā sukṛtaṁ me syāditi buddhyānvacintayat.

bhavet katham vā sukṛtam me syāt iti buddhyā anvacintayat

6. Bhishma said: 'Then the king reflected, "How may this work be accomplished? And how may a good deed (sukṛta) be mine?" Thus, he pondered with his intellect.'
अयं वै जननाद्विप्रः सुहृत्तस्य महात्मनः ।
संप्रेषितश्च तेनायं काश्यपेन ममान्तिकम् ॥७॥
7. ayaṁ vai jananādvipraḥ suhṛttasya mahātmanaḥ ,
saṁpreṣitaśca tenāyaṁ kāśyapena mamāntikam.
7. ayam vai jananāt vipraḥ suhṛt tasya mahātmanaḥ
sampreṣitaḥ ca tena ayam kāśyapena mama antikam
7. ayam vai jananāt vipraḥ tasya mahātmanaḥ suhṛt
ca ayam tena kāśyapena mama antikam sampreṣitaḥ
7. This man is indeed a Brahmin by birth, a friend of that great (mahātman) person. And he was sent by that Kaśyapa to my proximity.
तस्य प्रियं करिष्यामि स हि मामाश्रितः सदा ।
भ्राता मे बान्धवश्चासौ सखा च हृदयंगमः ॥८॥
8. tasya priyaṁ kariṣyāmi sa hi māmāśritaḥ sadā ,
bhrātā me bāndhavaścāsau sakhā ca hṛdayaṁgamaḥ.
8. tasya priyam kariṣyāmi sa hi mām āśritaḥ sadā
bhrātā me bāndhavaḥ ca asau sakhā ca hṛdayaṃgamaḥ
8. sa hi mām sadā āśritaḥ tasya priyam kariṣyāmi
asau me bhrātā bāndhavaḥ ca hṛdayaṃgamaḥ sakhā ca
8. I will do what is pleasing to him, for he has always sought refuge in me. He is my brother, kinsman, and a beloved friend.
कार्त्तिक्यामद्य भोक्तारः सहस्रं मे द्विजोत्तमाः ।
तत्रायमपि भोक्ता वै देयमस्मै च मे धनम् ॥९॥
9. kārttikyāmadya bhoktāraḥ sahasraṁ me dvijottamāḥ ,
tatrāyamapi bhoktā vai deyamasmai ca me dhanam.
9. kārttikyām adya bhoktāraḥ sahasram me dvijottamāḥ
tatra ayam api bhoktā vai deyam asmai ca me dhanam
9. adya kārttikyām me sahasram dvijottamāḥ bhoktāraḥ
tatra ayam api vai bhoktā ca asmai me dhanam deyam
9. Today, a thousand excellent Brahmins (dvijottamāḥ) are partaking in the Kārttika festival at my place. This one, too, will certainly be a partaker there, and wealth (dhanam) is to be given to him by me.
ततः सहस्रं विप्राणां विदुषां समलंकृतम् ।
स्नातानामनुसंप्राप्तमहतक्षौमवाससाम् ॥१०॥
10. tataḥ sahasraṁ viprāṇāṁ viduṣāṁ samalaṁkṛtam ,
snātānāmanusaṁprāptamahatakṣaumavāsasām.
10. tataḥ sahasram viprāṇām viduṣām samalaṃkṛtam
snātānām anusaṃprāptam ahatakṣaumavāsasām
10. tataḥ sahasram viduṣām samalaṃkṛtam snātānām
ahatakṣaumavāsasām viprāṇām anusaṃprāptam
10. Then, a thousand Brahmins, learned and well-adorned, who had bathed and arrived wearing unworn silk garments, were present.
तानागतान्द्विजश्रेष्ठान्विरूपाक्षो विशां पते ।
यथार्हं प्रतिजग्राह विधिदृष्टेन कर्मणा ॥११॥
11. tānāgatāndvijaśreṣṭhānvirūpākṣo viśāṁ pate ,
yathārhaṁ pratijagrāha vidhidṛṣṭena karmaṇā.
11. tān āgatān dvijaśreṣṭhān virūpākṣaḥ viśām pate
yathārham pratijagrāha vidhidṛṣṭena karmaṇā
11. viśām pate virūpākṣaḥ tān āgatān dvijaśreṣṭhān
yathārham vidhidṛṣṭena karmaṇā pratijagrāha
11. O ruler of the people, Virūpākṣa received those excellent Brahmins (dvijaśreṣṭhān) who had arrived. He honored them appropriately, in accordance with the actions (karma) prescribed by sacred law (vidhi).
बृस्यस्तेषां तु संन्यस्ता राक्षसेन्द्रस्य शासनात् ।
भूमौ वरकुथास्तीर्णाः प्रेष्यैर्भरतसत्तम ॥१२॥
12. bṛsyasteṣāṁ tu saṁnyastā rākṣasendrasya śāsanāt ,
bhūmau varakuthāstīrṇāḥ preṣyairbharatasattama.
12. bṛsyaḥ teṣām tu saṃnyastāḥ rākṣasendrasya śāsanāt
bhūmau varakuthāstīrṇāḥ preṣyaiḥ bharatasattama
12. bharatasattama rākṣasendrasya śāsanāt tu bṛsyaḥ
varakuthāstīrṇāḥ saṃnyastāḥ bhūmau teṣām preṣyaiḥ
12. O best of Bharatas, by the command of the king of the Rākṣasas, excellent seats, spread with fine blankets, were laid out on the ground for them by the servants.
तासु ते पूजिता राज्ञा निषण्णा द्विजसत्तमाः ।
व्यराजन्त महाराज नक्षत्रपतयो यथा ॥१३॥
13. tāsu te pūjitā rājñā niṣaṇṇā dvijasattamāḥ ,
vyarājanta mahārāja nakṣatrapatayo yathā.
13. tāsu te pūjitāḥ rājñā niṣaṇṇāḥ dvijasattamāḥ
vyarājanta mahārāja nakṣatrapatayaḥ yathā
13. mahārāja te pūjitāḥ dvijasattamāḥ niṣaṇṇāḥ
tāsu rājñā vyarājanta yathā nakṣatrapatayaḥ
13. O great king, those honored best of the twice-born, seated on those (seats), shone like the lords of the stars.
ततो जाम्बूनदाः पात्रीर्वज्राङ्का विमलाः शुभाः ।
वरान्नपूर्णा विप्रेभ्यः प्रादान्मधुघृताप्लुताः ॥१४॥
14. tato jāmbūnadāḥ pātrīrvajrāṅkā vimalāḥ śubhāḥ ,
varānnapūrṇā viprebhyaḥ prādānmadhughṛtāplutāḥ.
14. tataḥ jāmbūnadāḥ pātrīḥ vajrāṅkāḥ vimalāḥ śubhāḥ
varānnapūrṇāḥ viprebhyaḥ prādāt madhughṛtāplutāḥ
14. tataḥ viprebhyaḥ jāmbūnadāḥ vajrāṅkāḥ vimalāḥ
śubhāḥ varānnapūrṇāḥ madhughṛtāplutāḥ pātrīḥ prādāt
14. Then, he gave to the Brahmins golden, diamond-embellished, pure, auspicious vessels, filled with excellent food and soaked in honey and ghee.
तस्य नित्यं तथाषाढ्यां माघ्यां च बहवो द्विजाः ।
ईप्सितं भोजनवरं लभन्ते सत्कृतं सदा ॥१५॥
15. tasya nityaṁ tathāṣāḍhyāṁ māghyāṁ ca bahavo dvijāḥ ,
īpsitaṁ bhojanavaraṁ labhante satkṛtaṁ sadā.
15. tasya nityam tathā āṣāḍhyām māghyām ca bahavaḥ
dvijāḥ īpsitam bhojanavaram labhante satkṛtam sadā
15. nityam sadā bahavaḥ dvijāḥ tasya āṣāḍhyām māghyām
ca tathā īpsitam bhojanavaram satkṛtam labhante
15. Always, during the months of Āṣāḍha and Māgha, many twice-born (dvija) receive from him the desired, excellent, and respectfully offered food.
विशेषतस्तु कार्त्तिक्यां द्विजेभ्यः संप्रयच्छति ।
शरद्व्यपाये रत्नानि पौर्णमास्यामिति श्रुतिः ॥१६॥
16. viśeṣatastu kārttikyāṁ dvijebhyaḥ saṁprayacchati ,
śaradvyapāye ratnāni paurṇamāsyāmiti śrutiḥ.
16. viśeṣataḥ tu kārttikyām dvijebhyaḥ saṃprayacchati
śaradvyapāye ratnāni paurṇamāsyām iti śrutiḥ
16. śrutiḥ iti śaradvyapāye kārttikyām paurṇamāsyām
viśeṣataḥ tu dvijebhyaḥ ratnāni saṃprayacchati
16. Indeed, it is a traditional teaching (śruti) that at the end of autumn, specifically on the Kārttikī full moon day, one should especially offer jewels to the Brahmins (dvija).
सुवर्णं रजतं चैव मणीनथ च मौक्तिकम् ।
वज्रान्महाधनांश्चैव वैडूर्याजिनराङ्कवान् ॥१७॥
17. suvarṇaṁ rajataṁ caiva maṇīnatha ca mauktikam ,
vajrānmahādhanāṁścaiva vaiḍūryājinarāṅkavān.
17. suvarṇam rajatam ca eva maṇīn atha ca mauktikam
vajrān mahādhanān ca eva vaiḍūryājinarāṅkavān
17. suvarṇam rajatam ca eva maṇīn atha ca mauktikam
vajrān ca eva mahādhanān vaiḍūryājinarāṅkavān
17. Gold, silver, and also gems, and pearls; diamonds, and also very precious treasures, cat's eye gems, antelope skins, and garments made from the hair of the Raṅku deer.
रत्नराशीन्विनिक्षिप्य दक्षिणार्थे स भारत ।
ततः प्राह द्विजश्रेष्ठान्विरूपाक्षो महायशाः ॥१८॥
18. ratnarāśīnvinikṣipya dakṣiṇārthe sa bhārata ,
tataḥ prāha dvijaśreṣṭhānvirūpākṣo mahāyaśāḥ.
18. ratnarāśīn vinikṣipya dakṣiṇā-arthe sa bhārata
tataḥ prāha dvija-śreṣṭhān virūpākṣaḥ mahā-yaśāḥ
18. bhārata saḥ mahāyaśāḥ virūpākṣaḥ ratnarāśīn
dakṣiṇārthe vinikṣipya tataḥ dvijaśreṣṭhān prāha
18. O Bhārata, having placed heaps of jewels for the sake of an offering (dakṣiṇā), the highly renowned Virūpākṣa then addressed the best of the Brahmins (dvijaśreṣṭha).
गृह्णीत रत्नान्येतानि यथोत्साहं यथेष्टतः ।
येषु येषु च भाण्डेषु भुक्तं वो द्विजसत्तमाः ।
तान्येवादाय गच्छध्वं स्ववेश्मानीति भारत ॥१९॥
19. gṛhṇīta ratnānyetāni yathotsāhaṁ yatheṣṭataḥ ,
yeṣu yeṣu ca bhāṇḍeṣu bhuktaṁ vo dvijasattamāḥ ,
tānyevādāya gacchadhvaṁ svaveśmānīti bhārata.
19. gṛhṇīta ratnāni etāni yathā-utsāham
yathā-iṣṭataḥ yeṣu yeṣu ca bhāṇḍeṣu
bhuktam vaḥ dvija-sattamāḥ tāni eva ādāya
gacchadhvam sva-veśmāni iti bhārata
19. dvijasattamāḥ yeṣu yeṣu bhāṇḍeṣu ca
vaḥ bhuktam tāni eva ādāya etāni ratnāni
yathā-utsāham yathā-iṣṭataḥ gṛhṇīta
bhārata sva-veśmāni gacchadhvam iti
19. O best of Brahmins (dvijasattama), take these jewels according to your zeal and as you wish. And, O Bhārata, having taken those very vessels in which you have eaten, go to your homes.
इत्युक्तवचने तस्मिन्राक्षसेन्द्रे महात्मनि ।
यथेष्टं तानि रत्नानि जगृहुर्ब्राह्मणर्षभाः ॥२०॥
20. ityuktavacane tasminrākṣasendre mahātmani ,
yatheṣṭaṁ tāni ratnāni jagṛhurbrāhmaṇarṣabhāḥ.
20. iti uktavacane tasmin rākṣasendre mahātmani
yatheṣṭam tāni ratnāni jagṛhuḥ brāhmaṇarṣabhāḥ
20. tasmim mahātmani rākṣasendre iti uktavacane,
brāhmaṇarṣabhāḥ tāni ratnāni yatheṣṭam jagṛhuḥ.
20. When that great-souled (mahātman) king of Rākṣasas had spoken thus, the foremost among the Brahmins took those jewels as they wished.
ततो महार्हैस्ते सर्वे रत्नैरभ्यर्चिताः शुभैः ।
ब्राह्मणा मृष्टवसनाः सुप्रीताः स्म तदाभवन् ॥२१॥
21. tato mahārhaiste sarve ratnairabhyarcitāḥ śubhaiḥ ,
brāhmaṇā mṛṣṭavasanāḥ suprītāḥ sma tadābhavan.
21. tataḥ mahārḥaiḥ te sarve ratnaiḥ abhyarcitāḥ śubhaiḥ
brāhmaṇāḥ mṛṣṭavasanāḥ suprītāḥ sma tadā abhavan
21. tataḥ te sarve brāhmaṇāḥ mahārḥaiḥ śubhaiḥ ratnaiḥ abhyarcitāḥ mṛṣṭavasanāḥ,
tadā suprītāḥ abhavan sma.
21. Then, all those Brahmins, having been honored with splendid and auspicious jewels and adorned in clean garments, became greatly pleased at that time.
ततस्तान्राक्षसेन्द्रश्च द्विजानाह पुनर्वचः ।
नानादिगागतान्राजन्राक्षसान्प्रतिषिध्य वै ॥२२॥
22. tatastānrākṣasendraśca dvijānāha punarvacaḥ ,
nānādigāgatānrājanrākṣasānpratiṣidhya vai.
22. tataḥ tān rākṣasendraḥ ca dvijān āha punaḥ vacaḥ
nānādigāgatān rājan rākṣasān pratiṣidhya vai
22. rājan,
tataḥ rākṣasendraḥ nānādigāgatān rākṣasān pratiṣidhya vai,
punaḥ tān dvijān vacaḥ āha ca.
22. Then, indeed having restrained the Rākṣasas who had arrived from various directions, that king of Rākṣasas spoke words again to those Brahmins, O King!
अध्यैकदिवसं विप्रा न वोऽस्तीह भयं क्वचित् ।
राक्षसेभ्यः प्रमोदध्वमिष्टतो यात माचिरम् ॥२३॥
23. adhyaikadivasaṁ viprā na vo'stīha bhayaṁ kvacit ,
rākṣasebhyaḥ pramodadhvamiṣṭato yāta māciram.
23. adhi eka divasam viprāḥ na vaḥ asti iha bhayam kvacit
rākṣasebhyaḥ pramodadhvam iṣṭataḥ yāta mā ciram
23. viprāḥ,
iha adhi ekam divasam vaḥ rākṣasebhyaḥ kvacit bhayam na asti.
pramodadhvam! iṣṭataḥ yāta,
mā ciram!
23. O Brahmins, for this one day, there is no fear for you anywhere from the Rākṣasas here. Rejoice! Depart as you wish, and do not delay.
ततः प्रदुद्रुवुः सर्वे विप्रसंघाः समन्ततः ।
गौतमोऽपि सुवर्णस्य भारमादाय सत्वरः ॥२४॥
24. tataḥ pradudruvuḥ sarve viprasaṁghāḥ samantataḥ ,
gautamo'pi suvarṇasya bhāramādāya satvaraḥ.
24. tataḥ pradudruvuḥ sarve viprasaṅghāḥ samantataḥ
gautamaḥ api suvarṇasya bhāram ādāya satvaraḥ
24. tataḥ sarve viprasaṅghāḥ samantataḥ pradudruvuḥ
api gautamaḥ suvarṇasya bhāram ādāya satvaraḥ
24. Then all the groups of Brahmins fled in every direction. Gautama too, swiftly taking the load of gold,
कृच्छ्रात्समुद्वहन्वीर न्यग्रोधं समुपागमत् ।
न्यषीदच्च परिश्रान्तः क्लान्तश्च क्षुधितश्च ह ॥२५॥
25. kṛcchrātsamudvahanvīra nyagrodhaṁ samupāgamat ,
nyaṣīdacca pariśrāntaḥ klāntaśca kṣudhitaśca ha.
25. kṛcchrāt samudvahan vīra nyagrodham samupāgamat
nyaṣīdat ca pariśrāntaḥ klāntaḥ ca kṣudhitaḥ ca ha
25. vīra kṛcchrāt samudvahan nyagrodham samupāgamat ca
nyaṣīdat pariśrāntaḥ ca klāntaḥ ca kṣudhitaḥ ha
25. O hero, laboriously carrying (the gold), he reached a banyan tree. And he sat down, utterly exhausted, weary, and hungry.
ततस्तमभ्यगाद्राजन्राजधर्मा खगोत्तमः ।
स्वागतेनाभ्यनन्दच्च गौतमं मित्रवत्सलः ॥२६॥
26. tatastamabhyagādrājanrājadharmā khagottamaḥ ,
svāgatenābhyanandacca gautamaṁ mitravatsalaḥ.
26. tataḥ tam abhyagāt rājan rājadharmā khagottamaḥ
svāgatena abhyanandat ca gautamam mitravatsalaḥ
26. rājan tataḥ rājadharmā khagottamaḥ tam abhyagāt
ca mitravatsalaḥ svāgatena gautamam abhyanandat
26. Then, O king, the excellent bird (khagottama), whose intrinsic nature (dharma) was like that of a king, approached him. And, being friendly (mitravatsala), he welcomed Gautama.
तस्य पक्षाग्रविक्षेपैः क्लमं व्यपनयत्खगः ।
पूजां चाप्यकरोद्धीमान्भोजनं चाप्यकल्पयत् ॥२७॥
27. tasya pakṣāgravikṣepaiḥ klamaṁ vyapanayatkhagaḥ ,
pūjāṁ cāpyakaroddhīmānbhojanaṁ cāpyakalpayat.
27. tasya pakṣāgravikṣepaiḥ klamam vyapanayat khagaḥ
pūjām ca api akarot dhīmān bhojanam ca api akalpayat
27. khagaḥ tasya klamam pakṣāgravikṣepaiḥ vyapanayat ca
dhīmān pūjām api akarot ca bhojanam api akalpayat
27. The bird dispelled Gautama's weariness with the movements of its wingtips. And the wise (dhīmān) bird also offered him honor and arranged for food.
स भुक्तवान्सुविश्रान्तो गौतमोऽचिन्तयत्तदा ।
हाटकस्याभिरूपस्य भारोऽयं सुमहान्मया ।
गृहीतो लोभमोहाद्वै दूरं च गमनं मम ॥२८॥
28. sa bhuktavānsuviśrānto gautamo'cintayattadā ,
hāṭakasyābhirūpasya bhāro'yaṁ sumahānmayā ,
gṛhīto lobhamohādvai dūraṁ ca gamanaṁ mama.
28. saḥ bhuktavān suviśrāntaḥ gautamaḥ
acintayat tadā hāṭakasya abhirūpasya
bhāraḥ ayam sumahān mayā gṛhītaḥ
lobhamohāt vai dūram ca gamanam mama
28. tadā saḥ bhuktavān suviśrāntaḥ gautamaḥ
acintayat ayam abhirūpasya
hāṭakasya sumahān bhāraḥ mayā lobhamohāt
vai gṛhītaḥ mama gamanam ca dūram
28. Having eaten and being well-rested, Gautama then thought: "This very heavy burden of beautiful gold was indeed taken by me out of greed and delusion. And my destination is far away."
न चास्ति पथि भोक्तव्यं प्राणसंधारणं मम ।
किं कृत्वा धारयेयं वै प्राणानित्यभ्यचिन्तयत् ॥२९॥
29. na cāsti pathi bhoktavyaṁ prāṇasaṁdhāraṇaṁ mama ,
kiṁ kṛtvā dhārayeyaṁ vai prāṇānityabhyacintayat.
29. na ca asti pathi bhoktavyam prāṇasaṃdhāraṇam mama
kim kṛtvā dhārayeyam vai prāṇān iti abhyacintayat
29. ca pathi bhoktavyam mama prāṇasaṃdhāraṇam na asti
kim kṛtvā vai prāṇān dhārayeyam iti abhyacintayat
29. "And there is no food on the path for my sustenance of life. What should I do to sustain my life?" So he pondered.
ततः स पथि भोक्तव्यं प्रेक्षमाणो न किंचन ।
कृतघ्नः पुरुषव्याघ्र मनसेदमचिन्तयत् ॥३०॥
30. tataḥ sa pathi bhoktavyaṁ prekṣamāṇo na kiṁcana ,
kṛtaghnaḥ puruṣavyāghra manasedamacintayat.
30. tataḥ saḥ pathi bhoktavyam prekṣamāṇaḥ na kiṃcana
kṛtaghnaḥ puruṣavyāghra manasā idam acintayat
30. tataḥ saḥ pathi kiṃcana bhoktavyam na prekṣamāṇaḥ
kṛtaghnaḥ puruṣavyāghra manasā idam acintayat
30. Then, seeing no food on the path, the ungrateful one (kṛtaghna), O best among men, pondered this in his mind.
अयं बकपतिः पार्श्वे मांसराशिः स्थितो मम ।
इमं हत्वा गृहीत्वा च यास्येऽहं समभिद्रुतम् ॥३१॥
31. ayaṁ bakapatiḥ pārśve māṁsarāśiḥ sthito mama ,
imaṁ hatvā gṛhītvā ca yāsye'haṁ samabhidrutam.
31. ayam bakapatiḥ pārśve māṃsarāśiḥ sthitaḥ mama
imam hatvā gṛhītvā ca yāsye aham samabhidrutam
31. ayam bakapatiḥ māṃsarāśiḥ mama pārśve sthitaḥ
imam hatvā ca gṛhītvā aham samabhidrutam yāsye
31. "This chief of cranes (bakapati) is by my side, a heap of flesh. Having killed and taken him, I will proceed swiftly."
