अलम्बुसं तथा युद्धे विचरन्तमभीतवत् ।
हैडिम्बः प्रययौ तूर्णं विव्याध च शितैः शरैः ॥१॥

1. Sañjaya said: "Thus, the son of Hiḍimbā (Ghaṭotkaca) swiftly advanced towards Alambusa, who was moving about fearlessly in battle, and pierced him with sharp arrows."
तयोः प्रतिभयं युद्धमासीद्राक्षससिंहयोः ।
कुर्वतोर्विविधा मायाः शक्रशम्बरयोरिव ॥२॥
2. tayoḥ pratibhayaṁ yuddhamāsīdrākṣasasiṁhayoḥ ,
kurvatorvividhā māyāḥ śakraśambarayoriva.

2. A terrifying battle occurred between those two lion-like demons as they performed various illusions (māyā), similar to the fight between Śakra and Śambara.
अलम्बुसो भृशं क्रुद्धो घटोत्कचमताडयत् ।
घटोत्कचस्तु विंशत्या नाराचानां स्तनान्तरे ।
अलम्बुसमथो विद्ध्वा सिंहवद्व्यनदन्मुहुः ॥३॥
3. alambuso bhṛśaṁ kruddho ghaṭotkacamatāḍayat ,
ghaṭotkacastu viṁśatyā nārācānāṁ stanāntare ,
alambusamatho viddhvā siṁhavadvyanadanmuhuḥ.

atāḍayat ghaṭotkacaḥ tu viṃśatyā

3. Alambusa, extremely enraged, struck Ghatotkaca. However, Ghatotkaca, having then pierced Alambusa in the chest with twenty arrows, roared repeatedly like a lion.
तथैवालम्बुसो राजन्हैडिम्बं युद्धदुर्मदम् ।
विद्ध्वा विद्ध्वानदद्धृष्टः पूरयन्खं समन्ततः ॥४॥
4. tathaivālambuso rājanhaiḍimbaṁ yuddhadurmadam ,
viddhvā viddhvānadaddhṛṣṭaḥ pūrayankhaṁ samantataḥ.
4. tathā eva alambusaḥ rājan haiḍimbaṃ yuddhadurmadam
viddhvā viddhvā anadat dhṛṣṭaḥ pūrayan khaṃ samantataḥ
4. rājan,
tathā eva yuddhadurmadam alambusaḥ haiḍimbaṃ viddhvā viddhvā dhṛṣṭaḥ pūrayan samantataḥ khaṃ anadat।
4. Similarly, O King, Alambusa, who was maddened by battle, repeatedly pierced Haidimba (Ghatotkaca) and, being audacious, roared, filling the sky in all directions.
तथा तौ भृशसंक्रुद्धौ राक्षसेन्द्रौ महाबलौ ।
निर्विशेषमयुध्येतां मायाभिरितरेतरम् ॥५॥
5. tathā tau bhṛśasaṁkruddhau rākṣasendrau mahābalau ,
nirviśeṣamayudhyetāṁ māyābhiritaretaram.
5. tathā tau bhṛśaśaṃkruddhau rākṣasendravau
mahābalau nirviśeṣam ayudhyetām māyābhiḥ itaretaram

5. Then, those two greatly enraged and mighty chiefs of demons fought each other equally with their illusions (māyā).
मायाशतसृजौ दृप्तौ मोहयन्तौ परस्परम् ।
मायायुद्धे सुकुशलौ मायायुद्धमयुध्यताम् ॥६॥
6. māyāśatasṛjau dṛptau mohayantau parasparam ,
māyāyuddhe sukuśalau māyāyuddhamayudhyatām.

6. Proud, and generating hundreds of illusions (māyā), they bewildered each other. Both exceedingly skilled in illusion-warfare (māyā-yuddha), they engaged in a battle of illusions (māyā-yuddha).
यां यां घटोत्कचो युद्धे मायां दर्शयते नृप ।
तां तामलम्बुसो राजन्माययैव निजघ्निवान् ॥७॥
7. yāṁ yāṁ ghaṭotkaco yuddhe māyāṁ darśayate nṛpa ,
tāṁ tāmalambuso rājanmāyayaiva nijaghnivān.
7. yām yām ghaṭotkacaḥ yuddhe māyām darśayate nṛpa
tām tām alambusaḥ rājan māyayā eva nijaghnuvān
7. nṛpa rājan ghaṭotkacaḥ yuddhe yām yām māyām

7. O King, whatever illusion (māyā) Ghatotkaca manifested in battle, Alambusa, O king, countered and destroyed it with an illusion (māyā) of his own.
तं तथा युध्यमानं तु मायायुद्धविशारदम् ।
अलम्बुसं राक्षसेन्द्रं दृष्ट्वाक्रुध्यन्त पाण्डवाः ॥८॥
8. taṁ tathā yudhyamānaṁ tu māyāyuddhaviśāradam ,
alambusaṁ rākṣasendraṁ dṛṣṭvākrudhyanta pāṇḍavāḥ.
8. tam tathā yudhyamānam tu māyāyuddhaviśāradam
alambusam rākṣasendram dṛṣṭvā akrudhyanta pāṇḍavāḥ
8. pāṇḍavāḥ tu tathā yudhyamānam māyāyuddhaviśāradam

8. Seeing Alambusa, the king of Rākṣasas, who was fighting in this manner and was indeed expert in illusion-warfare (māyā-yuddha), the Pāṇḍavas grew enraged.
त एनं भृशसंक्रुद्धाः सर्वतः प्रवरा रथैः ।
अभ्यद्रवन्त संक्रुद्धा भीमसेनादयो नृप ॥९॥
9. ta enaṁ bhṛśasaṁkruddhāḥ sarvataḥ pravarā rathaiḥ ,
abhyadravanta saṁkruddhā bhīmasenādayo nṛpa.
9. te enam bhṛśasaṅkruddhāḥ sarvataḥ pravarāḥ rathaiḥ
abhyadravanta saṅkruddhāḥ bhīmasenādayaḥ nṛpa
9. nṛpa te bhīmasenādayaḥ pravarāḥ bhṛśasaṅkruddhāḥ
saṅkruddhāḥ rathaiḥ sarvataḥ enam abhyadravanta
9. O King, those foremost warriors, intensely enraged—Bhīmasena and others among them—rushed towards him from all sides with their chariots.
त एनं कोष्ठकीकृत्य रथवंशेन मारिष ।
सर्वतो व्यकिरन्बाणैरुल्काभिरिव कुञ्जरम् ॥१०॥
10. ta enaṁ koṣṭhakīkṛtya rathavaṁśena māriṣa ,
sarvato vyakiranbāṇairulkābhiriva kuñjaram.
10. ta enam koṣṭhakīkṛtya rathavaṃśena māriṣa
sarvataḥ vyakiran bāṇaiḥ ulkābhiḥ iva kuñjaram
10. māriṣa,
te enam rathavaṃśena koṣṭhakīkṛtya sarvataḥ bāṇaiḥ ulkābhiḥ iva kuñjaram vyakiran.
10. O respected one, surrounding him with a formation of chariots, they showered him from all sides with arrows, just as one would shower an elephant with firebrands.
स तेषामस्त्रवेगं तं प्रतिहत्यास्त्रमायया ।
तस्माद्रथव्रजान्मुक्तो वनदाहादिव द्विपः ॥११॥
11. sa teṣāmastravegaṁ taṁ pratihatyāstramāyayā ,
tasmādrathavrajānmukto vanadāhādiva dvipaḥ.
11. sa teṣām astravegam tam pratihatya astramāyayā
tasmāt rathavrajāt muktaḥ vanadāhāt iva dvipaḥ
11. sa astramāyayā teṣām tam astravegam pratihatya tasmāt rathavrajāt vanadāhāt iva dvipaḥ muktaḥ.
11. He, having repelled the force of their weapons with his weapon of illusion (māyā), was freed from that array of chariots, just as an elephant is released from a forest fire.
स विस्फार्य धनुर्घोरमिन्द्राशनिसमस्वनम् ।
मारुतिं पञ्चविंशत्या भैमसेनिं च पञ्चभिः ।
युधिष्ठिरं त्रिभिर्विद्ध्वा सहदेवं च सप्तभिः ॥१२॥
12. sa visphārya dhanurghoramindrāśanisamasvanam ,
mārutiṁ pañcaviṁśatyā bhaimaseniṁ ca pañcabhiḥ ,
yudhiṣṭhiraṁ tribhirviddhvā sahadevaṁ ca saptabhiḥ.
12. sa visphārya dhanuḥ ghoram
indrāśanisamasvanam mārutim pañcaviṃśatyā
bhaimasenim ca pañcabhiḥ yudhiṣṭhiram
tribhiḥ viddhvā sahadevam ca saptabhiḥ
12. sa indrāśanisamasvanam ghoram dhanuḥ visphārya mārutim pañcaviṃśatyā,
bhaimasenim ca pañcabhiḥ,
yudhiṣṭhiram tribhiḥ,
sahadevam ca saptabhiḥ viddhvā.
12. Having stretched his terrible bow, which resonated like Indra's thunderbolt, he pierced Bhīma with twenty-five (arrows), the son of Bhīmasena (Ghaṭotkaca) with five, Yudhishthira with three, and Sahadeva with seven.
नकुलं च त्रिसप्तत्या द्रौपदेयांश्च मारिष ।
पञ्चभिः पञ्चभिर्विद्ध्वा घोरं नादं ननाद ह ॥१३॥
13. nakulaṁ ca trisaptatyā draupadeyāṁśca māriṣa ,
pañcabhiḥ pañcabhirviddhvā ghoraṁ nādaṁ nanāda ha.
13. nakulam ca trisaptatyā draupadeyān ca māriṣa
pañcabhiḥ pañcabhiḥ viddhvā ghoram nādam nanāda ha
13. māriṣa,
trisaptatyā nakulam ca,
pañcabhiḥ pañcabhiḥ ca draupadeyān viddhvā,
(saḥ) ghoram nādam nanāda ha.
13. O respected one, having pierced Nakula with seventy-three (arrows), and Draupadi's sons (the Upapāṇḍavas) with five arrows each, he then emitted a terrible roar.
तं भीमसेनो नवभिः सहदेवश्च पञ्चभिः ।
युधिष्ठिरः शतेनैव राक्षसं प्रत्यविध्यत ।
नकुलश्च चतुःषष्ट्या द्रौपदेयास्त्रिभिस्त्रिभिः ॥१४॥
14. taṁ bhīmaseno navabhiḥ sahadevaśca pañcabhiḥ ,
yudhiṣṭhiraḥ śatenaiva rākṣasaṁ pratyavidhyata ,
nakulaśca catuḥṣaṣṭyā draupadeyāstribhistribhiḥ.
14. तम् भीमसेनः नवभिः सहदेवः च
पञ्चभिः युधिष्ठिरः शतेन एव राक्षसम्
प्रत्यविध्यत नकुलः च चतुःषष्ट्या
द्रौपदेयाः त्रिभिः त्रिभिः
14. भीमसेनः नवभिः सहदेवः च पञ्चभिः
युधिष्ठिरः शतेन एव नकुलः च
चतुःषष्ट्या द्रौपदेयाः त्रिभिः
त्रिभिः तम् राक्षसम् प्रत्यविध्यत
14. Bhimasena pierced that demon with nine (arrows), Sahadeva with five, and Yudhishthira indeed with a hundred. Nakula, too, pierced him with sixty-four, and the sons of Draupadi each with three.
हैडिम्बो राक्षसं विद्ध्वा युद्धे पञ्चाशता शरैः ।
पुनर्विव्याध सप्तत्या ननाद च महाबलः ॥१५॥
15. haiḍimbo rākṣasaṁ viddhvā yuddhe pañcāśatā śaraiḥ ,
punarvivyādha saptatyā nanāda ca mahābalaḥ.
15. हैडिम्बः राक्षसम् विद्ध्वा युद्धे पञ्चाशता
शरैः पुनः विव्याध सप्तत्या ननाद च महाबलः
15. महाबलः हैडिम्बः युद्धे पञ्चाशता शरैः राक्षसम्
विद्ध्वा पुनः सप्तत्या विव्याध च ननाद
15. Having pierced that demon in battle with fifty arrows, the immensely powerful son of Hiḍimbā (Haiḍimba) then pierced him again with seventy (arrows) and roared loudly.
सोऽतिविद्धो महेष्वासः सर्वतस्तैर्महारथैः ।
प्रतिविव्याध तान्सर्वान्पञ्चभिः पञ्चभिः शरैः ॥१६॥
16. so'tividdho maheṣvāsaḥ sarvatastairmahārathaiḥ ,
prativivyādha tānsarvānpañcabhiḥ pañcabhiḥ śaraiḥ.
16. सः अतिविद्धः महेष्वासः सर्वतः तैः महारथैः
प्रतिविव्याध तान् सर्वान् पञ्चभिः पञ्चभिः शरैः
16. सः महेष्वासः तैः महारथैः सर्वतः अतिविद्धः तान्
सर्वान् पञ्चभिः पञ्चभिः शरैः प्रतिविव्याध
16. Severely pierced from all sides by those great charioteers, that great archer then counter-pierced all of them with five arrows each.
तं क्रुद्धं राक्षसं युद्धे प्रतिक्रुद्धस्तु राक्षसः ।
हैडिम्बो भरतश्रेष्ठ शरैर्विव्याध सप्तभिः ॥१७॥
17. taṁ kruddhaṁ rākṣasaṁ yuddhe pratikruddhastu rākṣasaḥ ,
haiḍimbo bharataśreṣṭha śarairvivyādha saptabhiḥ.
17. तम् क्रुद्धम् राक्षसम् युद्धे प्रतिक्रुद्धः तु
राक्षसः हैडिम्बः bharataśreṣṭha शरैः विव्याध सप्तभिः
17. भरतश्रेष्ठ तु हैडिम्बः प्रतिक्रुद्धः राक्षसः
युद्धे तम् क्रुद्धम् राक्षसम् सप्तभिः शरैः विव्याध
17. But, O best of the Bharatas, Haiḍimba, enraged in response, pierced that enraged demon in battle with seven arrows.
सोऽतिविद्धो बलवता राक्षसेन्द्रो महाबलः ।
व्यसृजत्सायकांस्तूर्णं स्वर्णपुङ्खाञ्शिलाशितान् ॥१८॥
18. so'tividdho balavatā rākṣasendro mahābalaḥ ,
vyasṛjatsāyakāṁstūrṇaṁ svarṇapuṅkhāñśilāśitān.
18. saḥ ati-viddhaḥ balavatā rākṣasa-indraḥ mahā-balaḥ
vyasṛjat sāyakān tūrṇam svarṇa-puṅkhān śilā-āśitān
18. saḥ ati-viddhaḥ balavatā mahā-balaḥ rākṣasa-indraḥ
tūrṇam śilā-āśitān svarṇa-puṅkhān sāyakān vyasṛjat
18. That greatly powerful chief of demons, being intensely wounded by the mighty opponent, swiftly released arrows with golden shafts, sharpened on stone.
ते शरा नतपर्वाणो विविशू राक्षसं तदा ।
रुषिताः पन्नगा यद्वद्गिरिमुग्रा महाबलाः ॥१९॥
19. te śarā nataparvāṇo viviśū rākṣasaṁ tadā ,
ruṣitāḥ pannagā yadvadgirimugrā mahābalāḥ.
19. te śarā nata-parvāṇaḥ viviśuḥ rākṣasam tadā
ruṣitāḥ pannagāḥ yat-vat girim ugrāḥ mahā-balāḥ
19. tadā te nata-parvāṇaḥ śarāḥ ruṣitāḥ ugrāḥ mahā-balāḥ pannagāḥ yat-vat girim [viviśuḥ],
[tadvat] rākṣasam viviśuḥ
19. Then, those arrows with bent joints entered the demon, just as furious, formidable, and mighty snakes penetrate a mountain.
ततस्ते पाण्डवा राजन्समन्तान्निशिताञ्शरान् ।
प्रेषयामासुरुद्विग्ना हैडिम्बश्च घटोत्कचः ॥२०॥
20. tataste pāṇḍavā rājansamantānniśitāñśarān ,
preṣayāmāsurudvignā haiḍimbaśca ghaṭotkacaḥ.
20. tataḥ te pāṇḍavāḥ rājan samantāt niśitān śarān
preṣayām āsuḥ udvignāḥ haiḍimbaḥ ca ghaṭotkacaḥ
20. rājan,
tataḥ te udvignāḥ pāṇḍavāḥ ca haiḍimbaḥ ghaṭotkacaḥ samantāt niśitān śarān preṣayām āsuḥ
20. Then, O King, those agitated Pāṇḍavas and Ghaṭotkaca, the son of Hiḍimbā, dispatched sharpened arrows from all directions.
स वध्यमानः समरे पाण्डवैर्जितकाशिभिः ।
दग्धाद्रिकूटशृङ्गाभं भिन्नाञ्जनचयोपमम् ॥२१॥
21. sa vadhyamānaḥ samare pāṇḍavairjitakāśibhiḥ ,
dagdhādrikūṭaśṛṅgābhaṁ bhinnāñjanacayopamam.
21. saḥ vadhyamānaḥ samare pāṇḍavaiḥ jita-kāśibhiḥ
dagdha-adri-kūṭa-śṛṅga-ābham bhinna-añjana-caya-upamam
21. saḥ samare jita-kāśibhiḥ pāṇḍavaiḥ vadhyamānaḥ,
dagdha-adri-kūṭa-śṛṅga-ābham bhinna-añjana-caya-upamam [abhavat/dṛśyate]
21. He, being slain in battle by the glorious Pāṇḍavas, appeared like a peak of a burnt mountain and resembled a broken mass of collyrium.
समुत्क्षिप्य च बाहुभ्यामाविध्य च पुनः पुनः ।
निष्पिपेष क्षितौ क्षिप्रं पूर्णकुम्भमिवाश्मनि ॥२२॥
22. samutkṣipya ca bāhubhyāmāvidhya ca punaḥ punaḥ ,
niṣpipeṣa kṣitau kṣipraṁ pūrṇakumbhamivāśmani.
22. samutkṣipya ca bāhubhyām āvidhya ca punaḥ punaḥ
niṣpipeṣa kṣitau kṣipram pūrṇakumbham iva aśmani
22. ca ca punaḥ punaḥ bāhubhyām samutkṣipya āvidhya
kṣitau kṣipram aśmani pūrṇakumbham iva niṣpipeṣa
22. Lifting him high with both arms and swinging him repeatedly, he quickly crushed him to the ground, just like a full pot is smashed on a stone.
बललाघवसंपन्नः संपन्नो विक्रमेण च ।
भैमसेनी रणे क्रुद्धः सर्वसैन्यान्यभीषयत् ॥२३॥
23. balalāghavasaṁpannaḥ saṁpanno vikrameṇa ca ,
bhaimasenī raṇe kruddhaḥ sarvasainyānyabhīṣayat.
23. balalāghavasampannaḥ sampannaḥ vikrameṇa ca
bhaimasenī raṇe kruddhaḥ sarvasainyāni abhīṣayat
23. balalāghavasampannaḥ vikrameṇa ca sampannaḥ
kruddhaḥ bhaimasenī raṇe sarvasainyāni abhīṣayat
23. Endowed with strength, agility, and valor, Bhīma's son (Bhaimasenī), enraged in battle, terrified all the armies.
स विस्फुटितसर्वाङ्गश्चूर्णितास्थिविभूषणः ।
घटोत्कचेन वीरेण हतः सालकटङ्कटः ॥२४॥
24. sa visphuṭitasarvāṅgaścūrṇitāsthivibhūṣaṇaḥ ,
ghaṭotkacena vīreṇa hataḥ sālakaṭaṅkaṭaḥ.
24. sa visphuṭitasarvāṅgaḥ cūrṇitāsthivibhūṣaṇaḥ
ghaṭotkacena vīreṇa hataḥ sālakaṭaṅkaṭaḥ
24. visphuṭitasarvāṅgaḥ cūrṇitāsthivibhūṣaṇaḥ
sa sālakaṭaṅkaṭaḥ vīreṇa ghaṭotkacena hataḥ
24. With all his limbs burst open and his bone-ornaments crushed, Sālakaṭaṅkaṭa was killed by the heroic Ghaṭotkaca.
ततः सुमनसः पार्था हते तस्मिन्निशाचरे ।
चुक्रुशुः सिंहनादांश्च वासांस्यादुधुवुश्च ह ॥२५॥
25. tataḥ sumanasaḥ pārthā hate tasminniśācare ,
cukruśuḥ siṁhanādāṁśca vāsāṁsyādudhuvuśca ha.
25. tataḥ sumanasaḥ pārthāḥ hate tasmin niśācare
cukruśuḥ siṃhanādān ca vāsāṃsi ādudhuvuḥ ca ha
25. tataḥ tasmin niśācare hate sumanasaḥ pārthāḥ
siṃhanādān ca cukruśuḥ vāsāṃsi ca ha ādudhuvuḥ
25. Thereupon, when that night-roaming demon (niśācara) was slain, the delighted Pārthas let out lion-roars and waved their garments.
तावकाश्च हतं दृष्ट्वा राक्षसेन्द्रं महाबलम् ।
अलम्बुसं भीमरूपं विशीर्णमिव पर्वतम् ।
हाहाकारमकुर्वन्त सैन्यानि भरतर्षभ ॥२६॥
26. tāvakāśca hataṁ dṛṣṭvā rākṣasendraṁ mahābalam ,
alambusaṁ bhīmarūpaṁ viśīrṇamiva parvatam ,
hāhākāramakurvanta sainyāni bharatarṣabha.
26. tāvakāḥ ca hatam dṛṣṭvā rākṣasa-indram
mahā-balam alambusam bhīma-rūpam
viśīrṇam iva parvatam hāhākāram
akurvanta sainyāni bharata-ṛṣabha
26. bharata-ṛṣabha tāvakāḥ sainyāni
mahā-balam bhīma-rūpam rākṣasa-indram
alambusam viśīrṇam parvatam iva
hatam dṛṣṭvā ca hāhākāram akurvanta
26. O best among the Bhāratas, your warriors, seeing the greatly powerful king of Rākṣasas, Alambuṣa, who was of terrifying form, slain like a shattered mountain, began to lament loudly (hāhākāra).
जनाश्च तद्ददृशिरे रक्षः कौतूहलान्विताः ।
यदृच्छया निपतितं भूमावङ्गारकं यथा ॥२७॥
27. janāśca taddadṛśire rakṣaḥ kautūhalānvitāḥ ,
yadṛcchayā nipatitaṁ bhūmāvaṅgārakaṁ yathā.
27. janāḥ ca tat dadṛśire rakṣaḥ kautūhala-anvitāḥ
yadṛcchayā nipatitam bhūmau aṅgārakam yathā
27. ca kautūhala-anvitāḥ janāḥ tat rakṣaḥ bhūmau
yadṛcchayā nipatitam aṅgārakam yathā dadṛśire
27. And people, filled with curiosity, beheld that Rākṣasa, fallen to the earth like a meteor that has descended by chance.
घटोत्कचस्तु तद्धत्वा रक्षो बलवतां वरम् ।
मुमोच बलवन्नादं बलं हत्वेव वासवः ॥२८॥
28. ghaṭotkacastu taddhatvā rakṣo balavatāṁ varam ,
mumoca balavannādaṁ balaṁ hatveva vāsavaḥ.
28. ghaṭotkacaḥ tu tat hatvā rakṣaḥ balavatām varam
mumoca balavat nādam balam hatvā iva vāsavaḥ
28. tu ghaṭotkacaḥ tat balavatām varam rakṣaḥ hatvā
balavat nādam mumoca vāsavaḥ balam hatvā iva
28. But Ghaṭotkaca, having slain that Rākṣasa who was the foremost among the mighty, let out a powerful roar, just as Vāsava (Indra) did after killing the demon Bala.
स पूज्यमानः पितृभिः सबान्धवैर्घटोत्कचः कर्मणि दुष्करे कृते ।
रिपुं निहत्याभिननन्द वै तदा अलम्बुसं पक्वमलम्बुसं यथा ॥२९॥
29. sa pūjyamānaḥ pitṛbhiḥ sabāndhavai;rghaṭotkacaḥ karmaṇi duṣkare kṛte ,
ripuṁ nihatyābhinananda vai tadā; alambusaṁ pakvamalambusaṁ yathā.
29. sa pūjyamānaḥ pitṛbhiḥ sa-bāndhavaiḥ
ghaṭotkacaḥ karmaṇi दुष्करे कृते
ripum nihatya abhinananda vai tadā
alambusam pakvam alambusam yathā
29. तदा स घटोत्कचः पितृभिः स-बान्धvaiḥ
पूज्यमानः दुष्करे कर्मणि
कृते रिपुम् अलम्बुसम् निहत्य
पक्वम् अलम्बुसम् यथा वै अभिननन्द
29. Then, being honored by his fathers and relatives, Ghaṭotkaca, having accomplished the difficult task of slaying the enemy Alambuṣa, indeed rejoiced, just like a ripe alambuṣa fruit.
ततो निनादः सुमहान्समुत्थितः सशङ्खनानाविधबाणघोषवान् ।
निशम्य तं प्रत्यनदंस्तु कौरवास्ततो ध्वनिर्भुवनमथास्पृशद्भृशम् ॥३०॥
30. tato ninādaḥ sumahānsamutthitaḥ; saśaṅkhanānāvidhabāṇaghoṣavān ,
niśamya taṁ pratyanadaṁstu kauravā;stato dhvanirbhuvanamathāspṛśadbhṛśam.
30. tataḥ ninādaḥ su-mahān sam-utthitaḥ
sa-śaṅkha-nānā-vidha-bāṇa-ghoṣa-vān
niśamya tam prati-anadan tu kauravāḥ
tataḥ dhvaniḥ bhuvanam atha aspṛśat bhṛśam
30. tataḥ su-mahān sa-śaṅkha-nānā-vidha-bāṇa-ghoṣa-vān
ninādaḥ sam-utthitaḥ tam
niśamya tu kauravāḥ prati-anadan atha
tatas dhvaniḥ bhṛśam bhuvanam aspṛśat
30. Then a mighty roar, accompanied by the sound of conches and the clamor of various kinds of arrows, arose. Hearing that, the Kauravas roared back, and that sound intensely pervaded the world.
