1.
Vaiśaṃpāyana said: Dhṛtarāṣṭra, the son of Ambikā, after sighing a very long and hot sigh, addressed Saṃjaya, the charioteer. (O best among the Bharatas!)

2.
The two sons of Pāṇḍu, Nakula and Sahadeva, were indeed sons of gods, highly fortunate, possessing a splendor equal to the king of gods (Indra), and irresistible in battle.

3.
They possess strong weapons, strike from afar, and are resolute in battle. They are swift-handed, unwavering in their wrath, ever-vigilant, and powerful.

4.
O Sanjaya, when those two, Bhima and Arjuna, stand at the forefront of battle, having been placed there as leaders, irresistible and displaying the valor of lions, just like the two Ashvins, then I see no army remaining here.
तौ ह्यप्रतिरथौ युद्धे देवपुत्रौ महारथौ ।

5.
Indeed, those two great charioteers, sons of gods and peerless in battle, will not tolerate that great suffering of Draupadi, for they are intolerant.

6.
Whether the Vrishnis, mighty archers, or the Panchalas, of great power, the Pandavas, protected in battle by Vasudeva (Krishna) whose resolve is true, will utterly consume the army of my sons in battle.

7.
O son of a charioteer, the force of the Vrishnis, who are led by Rama and Krishna, cannot be endured even by mountains in battle.

8.
Among them, Bhima, the great archer and man of terrible prowess, will move about wielding the mace of Krishna (śaicyā), which is known as the slayer of heroes.

9.
And similarly, O kings, you will not be capable of withstanding the roar of the Gaṇḍīva (Arjuna's bow) - which is like a flash of lightning - nor the force of Bhima's mace.

10.
Then I, being one who follows Duryodhana's will, will recall the memorable advice of my friends, which I did not implement previously.

Sañjaya said: "O King, you overlooked this very great transgression. Even though you were capable, you did not prevent your son, who was acting out of delusion."

12.
Indeed, upon hearing that the Pāṇḍavas had been defeated in gambling, Madhusūdana (Kṛṣṇa), the infallible one (acyuta), quickly went to Kāmyaka forest and met with the Pārthas.

And the sons of Drupada, led by Dhṛṣṭadyumna, as well as Virāṭa, Dhṛṣṭaketu, and the Kekayas, who were great chariot warriors (mahārathas).

14.
And whatever was said there by them, after they had seen the Pārthas defeated, all of that was learned through my spy, and I have now made it known to you.

15.
When the Pāṇḍavas met Kṛṣṇa (Madhusūdana) there and requested him to be Arjuna's charioteer in battle, Hari (Kṛṣṇa) said to them, "So be it."

16.
Indeed, Kṛṣṇa himself became indignant upon seeing the Pārthas, who had arrived in such a condition, wearing black deerskins as their upper garments. And he spoke to Yudhiṣṭhira.

17.
That prosperity and splendor of the Pārthas, which existed in Indraprastha and which I witnessed during the Rājasūya (yajña) ritual, was indeed extremely difficult for any other kings to achieve.

O descendant of Kuru, (you will be) with Balarāma, as well as with Bhīma, Arjuna, and the twin sons (Nakula and Sahadeva); and with Akrūra, Gada, Sāmba, Pradyumna, and Āhuka; and with the heroic Dhṛṣṭadyumna, and with Śiśupāla's son (Dhṛṣṭaketu).

O Janārdana, I accept this truthful promise of yours. O mighty-armed one, you will certainly slay my enemies along with their kinsmen.

O Keśava, after thirteen years, help me fulfill my word (satyam). Indeed, this period of dwelling in the forest was sworn by me in the assembly of kings.

Having heard that statement of the king (Dharmarāja), the assembly members, led by Dhṛṣṭadyumna, quickly appeased the enraged Keśava with sweet and appropriate words.

They said to Draupadi (pāñcālī), who was not distressed, while Vasudeva (vāsudeva) was listening: 'Duryodhana, O Devi, will give up his life out of anger for you. We truly promise you this, O lady of beautiful complexion, do not grieve.'

Thus, the best among men spoke many kinds of words at that time. All of them were glorious heroes, and all bore auspicious marks.

Chosen by the King of (dharma) justice, after thirteen years, those great warriors will approach Vāsudeva (Kṛṣṇa), placing him at their front.

Who, desiring to live, would dare to confront these unconquerable, great-souled (mahātman) heroes of the world, accompanied by their kinsmen and armies, just as one would face enraged, maned lions in battle?

Dhritarashtra said, "What Vidura told me during the gambling match was this: 'O King, if you conquer the Pandavas, then surely this will be the end time for the Kurus, and a greatly terrifying flood of blood will certainly come to pass.'"

O Sūta, I believe it will happen just as Vidura (Kṣattā) told me previously. Without a doubt, this war will occur, and the foretold time for the Pandavas has now arrived.
