नारद उवाच ।
सभा वैश्रवणी राजञ्शतयोजनमायता ।
विस्तीर्णा सप्ततिश्चैव योजनानि सितप्रभा ॥१॥
1. nārada uvāca ,
sabhā vaiśravaṇī rājañśatayojanamāyatā ,
vistīrṇā saptatiścaiva yojanāni sitaprabhā.

1. Nārada said: 'O King, Vaiśravaṇa's (Kubera's) assembly hall is one hundred yojanas long and indeed seventy yojanas wide, shining with a white radiance.'
तपसा निर्मिता राजन्स्वयं वैश्रवणेन सा ।
शशिप्रभा खेचरीणां कैलासशिखरोपमा ॥२॥
2. tapasā nirmitā rājansvayaṁ vaiśravaṇena sā ,
śaśiprabhā khecarīṇāṁ kailāsaśikharopamā.

2. O King, that hall was constructed by Vaiśravaṇa himself through ascetic practice (tapas). It has the radiance of the moon and, for the sky-wanderers, it is like a peak of Mount Kailāsa.
गुह्यकैरुह्यमाना सा खे विषक्तेव दृश्यते ।
दिव्या हेममयैरुच्चैः पादपैरुपशोभिता ॥३॥
3. guhyakairuhyamānā sā khe viṣakteva dṛśyate ,
divyā hemamayairuccaiḥ pādapairupaśobhitā.
3. guhyakaiḥ uhyamānā sā khe viṣaktā iva dṛśyate
divyā hemamayaiḥ uccaiḥ pādapaiḥ upaśobhitā
3. That divine hall, being carried by the Guhyakas, appears suspended in the sky as if attached to it. It is splendidly adorned with tall, golden trees.
रश्मिवती भास्वरा च दिव्यगन्धा मनोरमा ।
सिताभ्रशिखराकारा प्लवमानेव दृश्यते ॥४॥
4. raśmivatī bhāsvarā ca divyagandhā manoramā ,
sitābhraśikharākārā plavamāneva dṛśyate.

4. It appears radiant, brilliant, divinely fragrant, and charming, resembling the peaks of white clouds, as if floating.
तस्यां वैश्रवणो राजा विचित्राभरणाम्बरः ।
स्त्रीसहस्रावृतः श्रीमानास्ते ज्वलितकुण्डलः ॥५॥
5. tasyāṁ vaiśravaṇo rājā vicitrābharaṇāmbaraḥ ,
strīsahasrāvṛtaḥ śrīmānāste jvalitakuṇḍalaḥ.

5. In that place, King Kubera (Vaiśravaṇa), splendid and adorned with various ornaments and garments, sits, surrounded by a thousand women and wearing gleaming earrings.
दिवाकरनिभे पुण्ये दिव्यास्तरणसंवृते ।
दिव्यपादोपधाने च निषण्णः परमासने ॥६॥
6. divākaranibhe puṇye divyāstaraṇasaṁvṛte ,
divyapādopadhāne ca niṣaṇṇaḥ paramāsane.

6. He (Kubera) is seated on a supreme throne (āsana), which is sacred, radiant like the sun, covered with divine carpets, and furnished with divine footrests.
मन्दाराणामुदाराणां वनानि सुरभीणि च ।
सौगन्धिकानां चादाय गन्धान्गन्धवहः शुचिः ॥७॥
7. mandārāṇāmudārāṇāṁ vanāni surabhīṇi ca ,
saugandhikānāṁ cādāya gandhāngandhavahaḥ śuciḥ.

saugandhikānām ca ādāya gandhān gandhavahaḥ śuciḥ
7. The pure wind (gandhavaha), gathering the fragrances from the magnificent forests of Mandara trees and from the fragrant water lilies,
नलिन्याश्चालकाख्यायाश्चन्दनानां वनस्य च ।
मनोहृदयसंह्लादी वायुस्तमुपसेवते ॥८॥
8. nalinyāścālakākhyāyāścandanānāṁ vanasya ca ,
manohṛdayasaṁhlādī vāyustamupasevate.
8. nalinyāḥ ca alakākhyāyāḥ ca candanānām vanasya
ca manohṛdayasaṃhlādī vāyuḥ tam upasevate
8. And the wind (vāyu), which is delightful to the mind and heart, serves him (Kubera), having gathered fragrances also from the lotus pond (nalinī), from the one named Alakā, and from the sandalwood forest.
तत्र देवाः सगन्धर्वा गणैरप्सरसां वृताः ।
दिव्यतानेन गीतानि गान्ति दिव्यानि भारत ॥९॥
9. tatra devāḥ sagandharvā gaṇairapsarasāṁ vṛtāḥ ,
divyatānena gītāni gānti divyāni bhārata.
9. tatra devāḥ sa-gandharvāḥ gaṇaiḥ apsarasām
vṛtāḥ divya-tānena gītāni gānti divyāni bhārata
9. There, gods along with Gandharvas, surrounded by groups of Apsaras, sing divine songs with divine melodies, O Bhārata.
मिश्रकेशी च रम्भा च चित्रसेना शुचिस्मिता ।
चारुनेत्रा घृताची च मेनका पुञ्जिकस्थला ॥१०॥
10. miśrakeśī ca rambhā ca citrasenā śucismitā ,
cārunetrā ghṛtācī ca menakā puñjikasthalā.

10. Miśrakeśī, and Rambhā, and Citrasenā, Śucismitā, Cārunetrā, Ghṛtācī, and Menakā, Puñjikasthalā.
विश्वाची सहजन्या च प्रम्लोचा उर्वशी इरा ।
वर्गा च सौरभेयी च समीची बुद्बुदा लता ॥११॥
11. viśvācī sahajanyā ca pramlocā urvaśī irā ,
vargā ca saurabheyī ca samīcī budbudā latā.

11. Viśvācī, Sahajanyā, and Pramlocā, Urvaśī, Irā, Vargā, and Saurabheyī, and Samīcī, Budbudā, Latā.
एताः सहस्रशश्चान्या नृत्तगीतविशारदाः ।
उपतिष्ठन्ति धनदं पाण्डवाप्सरसां गणाः ॥१२॥
12. etāḥ sahasraśaścānyā nṛttagītaviśāradāḥ ,
upatiṣṭhanti dhanadaṁ pāṇḍavāpsarasāṁ gaṇāḥ.
12. etāḥ sahasraśaḥ ca anyāḥ nṛtta-gīta-viśāradāḥ
upatiṣṭhanti dhanadam pāṇḍava apsarasām gaṇāḥ
12. These, and thousands of other groups of Apsaras, O Pāṇḍava, skilled in dance and song, attend upon Kubera (dhanada).
अनिशं दिव्यवादित्रैर्नृत्तैर्गीतैश्च सा सभा ।
अशून्या रुचिरा भाति गन्धर्वाप्सरसां गणैः ॥१३॥
13. aniśaṁ divyavāditrairnṛttairgītaiśca sā sabhā ,
aśūnyā rucirā bhāti gandharvāpsarasāṁ gaṇaiḥ.
13. aniśam divya-vāditraiḥ nṛttaiḥ gītaiḥ ca sā sabhā
aśūnyā rucirā bhāti gandharva-apsarasām gaṇaiḥ
13. That assembly hall constantly shines, beautiful and full with divine musical instruments, dances, songs, and groups of Gandharvas and Apsaras.
किंनरा नाम गन्धर्वा नरा नाम तथापरे ।
मणिभद्रोऽथ धनदः श्वेतभद्रश्च गुह्यकः ॥१४॥
14. kiṁnarā nāma gandharvā narā nāma tathāpare ,
maṇibhadro'tha dhanadaḥ śvetabhadraśca guhyakaḥ.
14. kiṃnarāḥ nāma gandharvāḥ narāḥ nāma tathā apare
maṇibhadraḥ atha dhanadaḥ śvetabhadraḥ ca guhyakaḥ
14. Among them are the Kinnaras, a type of Gandharva, and others known as Naras. Also present are Maṇibhadra, then Dhanada, and Śvetabhadra, who is a Guhyaka.
कशेरको गण्डकण्डुः प्रद्योतश्च महाबलः ।
कुस्तुम्बुरुः पिशाचश्च गजकर्णो विशालकः ॥१५॥
15. kaśerako gaṇḍakaṇḍuḥ pradyotaśca mahābalaḥ ,
kustumburuḥ piśācaśca gajakarṇo viśālakaḥ.

kustumburuḥ piśācaḥ ca gajakarṇaḥ viśālakaḥ
15. Kaśeraka, Gaṇḍakaṇḍu, and Pradyota, the mighty one (mahābala). Kustumburu, and Piśāca, Gajakarṇa, and Viśālaka are also present.
वराहकर्णः सान्द्रोष्ठः फलभक्षः फलोदकः ।
अङ्गचूडः शिखावर्तो हेमनेत्रो विभीषणः ॥१६॥
16. varāhakarṇaḥ sāndroṣṭhaḥ phalabhakṣaḥ phalodakaḥ ,
aṅgacūḍaḥ śikhāvarto hemanetro vibhīṣaṇaḥ.

16. Varāhakarṇa, Sāndroṣṭha, Phalabhakṣa, and Phalodaka. Aṅgacūḍa, Śikhāvarta, Hemanetra, and Vibhīṣaṇa.
पुष्पाननः पिङ्गलकः शोणितोदः प्रवालकः ।
वृक्षवास्यनिकेतश्च चीरवासाश्च भारत ॥१७॥
17. puṣpānanaḥ piṅgalakaḥ śoṇitodaḥ pravālakaḥ ,
vṛkṣavāsyaniketaśca cīravāsāśca bhārata.

vṛkṣavāsiniketaḥ ca cīravāsāḥ ca bhārata
17. Puṣpānana, Piṅgalaka, Śoṇitoda, and Pravālaka; also Vṛkṣavāsiniketa and Cīravāsas, O Bhārata.
एते चान्ये च बहवो यक्षाः शतसहस्रशः ।
सदा भगवती च श्रीस्तथैव नलकूबरः ॥१८॥
18. ete cānye ca bahavo yakṣāḥ śatasahasraśaḥ ,
sadā bhagavatī ca śrīstathaiva nalakūbaraḥ.
18. ete ca anye ca bahavaḥ yakṣāḥ śatasahasraśaḥ
sadā bhagavatī ca śrīḥ tathā eva nalakūbaraḥ
18. These, along with many hundreds of thousands of other Yakṣas, are present. Also always present are the venerable (bhagavatī) Śrī and Nalakūbara.
अहं च बहुशस्तस्यां भवन्त्यन्ये च मद्विधाः ।
आचार्याश्चाभवंस्तत्र तथा देवर्षयोऽपरे ॥१९॥
19. ahaṁ ca bahuśastasyāṁ bhavantyanye ca madvidhāḥ ,
ācāryāścābhavaṁstatra tathā devarṣayo'pare.
19. aham ca bahuśaḥ tasyām bhavanti anye ca madvidhāḥ
ācāryāḥ ca abhavan tatra tathā devarṣayaḥ apare
19. I, and many others like me, frequently reside in that assembly. Similarly, other preceptors and divine sages were also present there.
भगवान्भूतसंघैश्च वृतः शतसहस्रशः ।
उमापतिः पशुपतिः शूलधृग्भगनेत्रहा ॥२०॥
20. bhagavānbhūtasaṁghaiśca vṛtaḥ śatasahasraśaḥ ,
umāpatiḥ paśupatiḥ śūladhṛgbhaganetrahā.
20. bhagavān bhūtasaṃghaiḥ ca vṛtaḥ śatasahasraśaḥ
umāpatiḥ paśupatiḥ śūladhṛk bhaganetraha
20. The revered Lord, the husband of Umā (Umāpati), the Lord of beings (Paśupati), the trident-bearer, and the destroyer of Bhaga's eye, was surrounded by hundreds of thousands of hosts of spirits (bhūta).
त्र्यम्बको राजशार्दूल देवी च विगतक्लमा ।
वामनैर्विकटैः कुब्जैः क्षतजाक्षैर्मनोजवैः ॥२१॥
21. tryambako rājaśārdūla devī ca vigataklamā ,
vāmanairvikaṭaiḥ kubjaiḥ kṣatajākṣairmanojavaiḥ.
21. tryambakaḥ rājaśārdūla devī ca vigataklamā
vāmanaiḥ vikaṭaiḥ kubjaiḥ kṣatajākṣaiḥ manojavaiḥ
21. O tiger among kings, there was also the three-eyed Lord (Treyambaka), and the goddess (Devī) free from fatigue. [He was accompanied] by dwarfs, by hideous and hunchbacked beings, by those with bloodshot eyes, and by those swift as thought.
मांसमेदोवसाहारैरुग्रश्रवणदर्शनैः ।
नानाप्रहरणैर्घोरैर्वातैरिव महाजवैः ।
वृतः सखायमन्वास्ते सदैव धनदं नृप ॥२२॥
22. māṁsamedovasāhārairugraśravaṇadarśanaiḥ ,
nānāpraharaṇairghorairvātairiva mahājavaiḥ ,
vṛtaḥ sakhāyamanvāste sadaiva dhanadaṁ nṛpa.
22. māṃsamedovasāhāraiḥ ugraśravaṇadarśanaiḥ
nānāpraharaṇaiḥ ghoraiḥ
vātaiḥ iva mahājavaiḥ vṛtaḥ
sakhāyam anvāste sadaiva dhanadam nṛpa
22. O king, surrounded by formidable beings whose diet consists of flesh, fat, and marrow, whose hearing and sight are dreadful, who wield various weapons, and who are as swift as mighty winds, he (Shiva) always sits near his friend Kubera, the giver of wealth.
सा सभा तादृशी राजन्मया दृष्टान्तरिक्षगा ।
पितामहसभां राजन्कथयिष्ये गतक्लमाम् ॥२३॥
23. sā sabhā tādṛśī rājanmayā dṛṣṭāntarikṣagā ,
pitāmahasabhāṁ rājankathayiṣye gataklamām.
23. sā sabhā tādṛśī rājan mayā dṛṣṭā antarikṣagā
pitāmahasabhām rājan kathayiṣye gataklamām
23. O king, that assembly (of Shiva), such as it was, moving in space, was seen by me. O king, I shall now narrate [the description of] the assembly of the Grand-Sire (Brahmā), which is free from fatigue.
