श्रुत्वा तु तं महाशब्दं पाण्डूनां पुत्रगृद्धिनाम् ।
चारैः प्रवेदिते तत्र समुत्थाय जयद्रथः ॥१॥

शोकसंमूढहृदयो दुःखेनाभिहतो भृशम् ।
मज्जमान इवागाधे विपुले शोकसागरे ॥२॥
2. śokasaṁmūḍhahṛdayo duḥkhenābhihato bhṛśam ,
majjamāna ivāgādhe vipule śokasāgare.

2. With a heart utterly bewildered by sorrow, intensely struck by grief, he was as if sinking in a deep, vast ocean of sorrow.
जगाम समितिं राज्ञां सैन्धवो विमृशन्बहु ।
स तेषां नरदेवानां सकाशे परिदेवयन् ॥३॥
3. jagāma samitiṁ rājñāṁ saindhavo vimṛśanbahu ,
sa teṣāṁ naradevānāṁ sakāśe paridevayan.

3. Jayadratha (saindhava), deeply pondering, went to the assembly of kings. Lamenting, he spoke in the presence of those lords of men.
अभिमन्योः पितुर्भीतः सव्रीडो वाक्यमब्रवीत् ।
योऽसौ पाण्डोः किल क्षेत्रे जातः शक्रेण कामिना ॥४॥
4. abhimanyoḥ piturbhītaḥ savrīḍo vākyamabravīt ,
yo'sau pāṇḍoḥ kila kṣetre jātaḥ śakreṇa kāminā.

4. Fearful of Abhimanyu's father (Arjuna), he, full of shame, spoke these words: "He who, it is said, was born in Pāṇḍu's field (womb) by the lustful Indra - "
स निनीषति दुर्बुद्धिर्मां किलैकं यमक्षयम् ।
तत्स्वस्ति वोऽस्तु यास्यामि स्वगृहं जीवितेप्सया ॥५॥
5. sa ninīṣati durbuddhirmāṁ kilaikaṁ yamakṣayam ,
tatsvasti vo'stu yāsyāmi svagṛhaṁ jīvitepsayā.
5. sa ninīṣati durvuddhiḥ mām kila ekam yamakṣayam
tat svasti vaḥ astu yāsyāmi svagṛham jīvitepsayā
5. sa durvuddhiḥ mām ekam yamakṣayam kila ninīṣati tat
vaḥ svasti astu (aham) jīvitepsayā svagṛham yāsyāmi
5. "That evil-minded one (Arjuna) indeed wishes to lead me alone to Yama's abode (death). Therefore, may welfare be to you all; I shall go to my own house with the desire to live."
अथ वा स्थ प्रतिबलास्त्रातुं मां क्षत्रियर्षभाः ।
पार्थेन प्रार्थितं वीरास्ते ददन्तु ममाभयम् ॥६॥
6. atha vā stha pratibalāstrātuṁ māṁ kṣatriyarṣabhāḥ ,
pārthena prārthitaṁ vīrāste dadantu mamābhayam.
6. atha vā stha pratibalāḥ trātum mām kṣatriyarṣabhāḥ
pārtena prārthitam vīrāḥ te dadantu mama abhayam
6. kṣatriyarṣabhāḥ vīrāḥ atha vā mām trātum pratibalāḥ
stha? pārtena prārthitam te mama abhayam dadantu
6. Or, O best among kshatriyas, are you strong enough to protect me? If you heroes have been implored by Arjuna (Pārtha), then let those (heroes) grant me safety (abhayam).
द्रोणदुर्योधनकृपाः कर्णमद्रेशबाह्लिकाः ।
दुःशासनादयः शक्तास्त्रातुमप्यन्तकार्दितम् ॥७॥
7. droṇaduryodhanakṛpāḥ karṇamadreśabāhlikāḥ ,
duḥśāsanādayaḥ śaktāstrātumapyantakārditam.
7. droṇa duryodhana kṛpāḥ karṇa madreśa bāhlikāḥ
duḥśāsanādayaḥ śaktāḥ trātum api antakārditam
7. droṇa duryodhana kṛpāḥ karṇa madreśa bāhlikāḥ
duḥśāsanādayaḥ api antakārditam trātum śaktāḥ
7. Drona, Duryodhana, Kripa, Karna, the king of Madra, Bahlika, Dushasana and others are capable of protecting even one afflicted by the god of death (Antaka).
किमङ्ग पुनरेकेन फल्गुनेन जिघांसता ।
न त्रायेयुर्भवन्तो मां समस्ताः पतयः क्षितेः ॥८॥
8. kimaṅga punarekena phalgunena jighāṁsatā ,
na trāyeyurbhavanto māṁ samastāḥ patayaḥ kṣiteḥ.
8. kim aṅga punaḥ ekena phalgunena jighāṁsatā na
trāyeyuḥ bhavantaḥ mām samastāḥ patayaḥ kṣiteḥ
8. kim aṅga punaḥ ekena jighāṁsatā phalgunena (api)?
samastāḥ kṣiteḥ patayaḥ bhavantaḥ mām na trāyeyuḥ?
8. What then to say about a single Arjuna (Phalguna) who desires to kill? Will all of you, lords of the earth, not protect me?
प्रहर्षं पाण्डवेयानां श्रुत्वा मम महद्भयम् ।
सीदन्तीव च मेऽङ्गानि मुमूर्षोरिव पार्थिवाः ॥९॥
9. praharṣaṁ pāṇḍaveyānāṁ śrutvā mama mahadbhayam ,
sīdantīva ca me'ṅgāni mumūrṣoriva pārthivāḥ.
9. praharṣam pāṇḍaveyānām śrutvā mama mahat bhayam
sīdanti iva ca me aṅgāni mumūrṣoḥ iva pārthivāḥ
9. pārthivāḥ,
pāṇḍaveyānām praharṣam śrutvā,
mama mahat bhayam (jāyate).
ca me aṅgāni mumūrṣoḥ iva sīdanti iva.
9. Having heard of the great joy of the Pandavas, a great fear (bhayam) arises in me. And my limbs, O kings (pārthivāḥ), feel as if they are failing, like those of one who is about to die.
वधो नूनं प्रतिज्ञातो मम गाण्डीवधन्वना ।
तथा हि हृष्टाः क्रोशन्ति शोककालेऽपि पाण्डवाः ॥१०॥
10. vadho nūnaṁ pratijñāto mama gāṇḍīvadhanvanā ,
tathā hi hṛṣṭāḥ krośanti śokakāle'pi pāṇḍavāḥ.
10. vadhaḥ nūnam pratijñātaḥ mama gāṇḍīvadhanvanā
tathā hi hṛṣṭāḥ krośanti śokakāle api pāṇḍavāḥ
10. mama vadhaḥ nūnam gāṇḍīvadhanvanā pratijñātaḥ
hi tathā śokakāle api pāṇḍavāḥ hṛṣṭāḥ krośanti
10. My death has surely been vowed by the wielder of the Gāṇḍīva bow. That is why the Pāṇḍavas are shouting with joy, even in this time of sorrow.
न देवा न च गन्धर्वा नासुरोरगराक्षसाः ।
उत्सहन्तेऽन्यथा कर्तुं कुत एव नराधिपाः ॥११॥
11. na devā na ca gandharvā nāsuroragarākṣasāḥ ,
utsahante'nyathā kartuṁ kuta eva narādhipāḥ.
11. na devāḥ na ca gandharvāḥ na asuroragarākṣasāḥ
utsahante anyathā kartum kutaḥ eva narādhipāḥ
11. devāḥ na ca gandharvāḥ na asuroragarākṣasāḥ na
anyathā kartum utsahante eva kutaḥ narādhipāḥ
11. Neither the gods, nor the gandharvas, nor the asuras, uragas, or rakṣasas are able to make it otherwise; how much less then the kings of men?
तस्मान्मामनुजानीत भद्रं वोऽस्तु नरर्षभाः ।
अदर्शनं गमिष्यामि न मां द्रक्ष्यन्ति पाण्डवाः ॥१२॥
12. tasmānmāmanujānīta bhadraṁ vo'stu nararṣabhāḥ ,
adarśanaṁ gamiṣyāmi na māṁ drakṣyanti pāṇḍavāḥ.
12. tasmāt mām anujānīta bhadram vaḥ astu nararṣabhāḥ
adarśanam gamiṣyāmi na mām drakṣyanti pāṇḍavāḥ
12. tasmāt nararṣabhāḥ mām anujānīta vaḥ bhadram astu
aham adarśanam gamiṣyāmi pāṇḍavāḥ mām na drakṣyanti
12. Therefore, permit me to go, O best of men; may good fortune be with you. I will go out of sight, and the Pāṇḍavas will not see me.
एवं विलपमानं तं भयाद्व्याकुलचेतसम् ।
आत्मकार्यगरीयस्त्वाद्राजा दुर्योधनोऽब्रवीत् ॥१३॥
13. evaṁ vilapamānaṁ taṁ bhayādvyākulacetasam ,
ātmakāryagarīyastvādrājā duryodhano'bravīt.
13. evam vilapamānam tam bhayāt vyākulacetasam
ātmakāryagarīyastvāt rājā duryodhanaḥ abravīt
13. rājā duryodhanaḥ evam bhayāt vyākulacetasam
tam vilapamānam ātmakāryagarīyastvāt abravīt
13. To him, thus lamenting, whose mind was agitated by fear, King Duryodhana spoke, due to the great importance of his own task.
न भेतव्यं नरव्याघ्र को हि त्वा पुरुषर्षभ ।
मध्ये क्षत्रियवीराणां तिष्ठन्तं प्रार्थयेद्युधि ॥१४॥
14. na bhetavyaṁ naravyāghra ko hi tvā puruṣarṣabha ,
madhye kṣatriyavīrāṇāṁ tiṣṭhantaṁ prārthayedyudhi.
14. na bhetavyam naravyāghra kaḥ hi tvā puruṣarṣabha
madhye kṣatriyavīrāṇām tiṣṭhantam prārthayet yudhi
14. naravyāghra puruṣarṣabha bhetavyam na hi kaḥ
kṣatriyavīrāṇām madhye tiṣṭhantam tvā yudhi prārthayet
14. O tiger among men (naravyāghra), O bull among men (puruṣarṣabha), you should not be afraid! For who would challenge you in battle while you stand amidst these warrior heroes?
अहं वैकर्तनः कर्णश्चित्रसेनो विविंशतिः ।
भूरिश्रवाः शलः शल्यो वृषसेनो दुरासदः ॥१५॥
15. ahaṁ vaikartanaḥ karṇaścitraseno viviṁśatiḥ ,
bhūriśravāḥ śalaḥ śalyo vṛṣaseno durāsadaḥ.
15. aham vaikartanaḥ karṇaḥ citrasenaḥ viviṃśatiḥ
bhūriśravāḥ śalaḥ śalyaḥ vṛṣasenaḥ durāsadaḥ
15. aham vaikartanaḥ karṇaḥ citrasenaḥ viviṃśatiḥ
bhūriśravāḥ śalaḥ śalyaḥ vṛṣasenaḥ durāsadaḥ
15. I am here, along with Vaikartana Karṇa, Citrasena, Viviṃśati, Bhūriśravas, Śala, Śalya, Vṛṣasena, and the formidable Durāsada.
पुरुमित्रो जयो भोजः काम्बोजश्च सुदक्षिणः ।
सत्यव्रतो महाबाहुर्विकर्णो दुर्मुखः सहः ॥१६॥
16. purumitro jayo bhojaḥ kāmbojaśca sudakṣiṇaḥ ,
satyavrato mahābāhurvikarṇo durmukhaḥ sahaḥ.
16. purumitraḥ jayaḥ bhojaḥ kāmbojaḥ ca sudakṣiṇaḥ
satyavrataḥ mahābāhuḥ vikarṇaḥ durmukhaḥ sahaḥ
16. purumitraḥ jayaḥ bhojaḥ kāmbojaḥ ca sudakṣiṇaḥ
satyavrataḥ mahābāhuḥ vikarṇaḥ durmukhaḥ sahaḥ
16. Purumitra, Jaya, Bhoja, Kāmboja, and Sudakṣiṇa; also Satyavrata, the mighty-armed (mahābāhu) Vikarṇa, Durmukha, and Saha.
दुःशासनः सुबाहुश्च कलिङ्गश्चाप्युदायुधः ।
विन्दानुविन्दावावन्त्यौ द्रोणो द्रौणिः ससौबलः ॥१७॥
17. duḥśāsanaḥ subāhuśca kaliṅgaścāpyudāyudhaḥ ,
vindānuvindāvāvantyau droṇo drauṇiḥ sasaubalaḥ.
17. duḥśāsanaḥ subāhuḥ ca kaliṅgaḥ ca api udāyudhaḥ
vindānuvindau āvantyau droṇaḥ drauṇiḥ sasoubalaḥ
17. duḥśāsanaḥ subāhuḥ ca kaliṅgaḥ ca api udāyudhaḥ
vindānuvindau āvantyau droṇaḥ drauṇiḥ sasoubalaḥ
17. Duḥśāsana, Subāhu, and Kaliṅga, also Udāyudha; the two Vindānuvindas from Avanti, Droṇa, Drauṇi, and Saubala (Śakuni).
त्वं चापि रथिनां श्रेष्ठः स्वयं शूरोऽमितद्युतिः ।
स कथं पाण्डवेयेभ्यो भयं पश्यसि सैन्धव ॥१८॥
18. tvaṁ cāpi rathināṁ śreṣṭhaḥ svayaṁ śūro'mitadyutiḥ ,
sa kathaṁ pāṇḍaveyebhyo bhayaṁ paśyasi saindhava.
18. tvam ca api rathinām śreṣṭhaḥ svayam śūraḥ amita-dyutiḥ
sa katham pāṇḍavebhyo bhayam paśyasi saindhava
18. saindhava tvam ca api rathinām śreṣṭhaḥ svayam śūraḥ
amita-dyutiḥ (asi) sa katham pāṇḍavebhyo bhayam paśyasi
18. And you, O King of Sindhu (Saindhava), are the foremost among charioteers, inherently brave, and of immeasurable splendor. How then do you perceive fear from the sons of Pāṇḍu?
अक्षौहिण्यो दशैका च मदीयास्तव रक्षणे ।
यत्ता योत्स्यन्ति मा भैस्त्वं सैन्धव व्येतु ते भयम् ॥१९॥
19. akṣauhiṇyo daśaikā ca madīyāstava rakṣaṇe ,
yattā yotsyanti mā bhaistvaṁ saindhava vyetu te bhayam.
19. akṣauhiṇyaḥ daśa ekā ca madīyāḥ tava rakṣaṇe yattāḥ
yotsyanti mā bhaiḥ tvam saindhava vyetu te bhayam
19. saindhava! daśa ekā ca madīyāḥ akṣauhiṇyaḥ tava rakṣaṇe yattāḥ yotsyanti.
tvam mā bhaiḥ.
te bhayam vyetu.
19. Eleven *akṣauhiṇī*s of my army are for your protection. They will fight diligently. Do not fear, O King of Sindhu (Saindhava); may your fear depart.
एवमाश्वासितो राजन्पुत्रेण तव सैन्धवः ।
दुर्योधनेन सहितो द्रोणं रात्रावुपागमत् ॥२०॥
20. evamāśvāsito rājanputreṇa tava saindhavaḥ ,
duryodhanena sahito droṇaṁ rātrāvupāgamat.
20. evam āśvāsitaḥ rājan putreṇa tava saindhavaḥ
duryodhanena sahitaḥ droṇam rātrau upāgamat
20. rājan! evam tava putreṇa āśvāsitaḥ saindhavaḥ duryodhanena sahitaḥ rātrau droṇam upāgamat.
20. Thus consoled, O King, the King of Sindhu (Saindhava), accompanied by your son Duryodhana, approached Droṇa at night.
उपसंग्रहणं कृत्वा द्रोणाय स विशां पते ।
उपोपविश्य प्रणतः पर्यपृच्छदिदं तदा ॥२१॥
21. upasaṁgrahaṇaṁ kṛtvā droṇāya sa viśāṁ pate ,
upopaviśya praṇataḥ paryapṛcchadidaṁ tadā.
21. upasaṃgrahaṇam kṛtvā droṇāya sa viśām pate
upopaviśya praṇataḥ paryapṛcchat idam tadā
21. viśām pate! tadā sa droṇāya upasaṃgrahaṇam kṛtvā,
praṇataḥ upopaviśya,
idam paryapṛcchat.
21. Then, O Lord of people (Dhritarashtra), having paid obeisance to Droṇa, and sitting humbly near him, he (Saindhava) asked this.
निमित्ते दूरपातित्वे लघुत्वे दृढवेधने ।
मम ब्रवीतु भगवान्विशेषं फल्गुनस्य च ॥२२॥
22. nimitte dūrapātitve laghutve dṛḍhavedhane ,
mama bravītu bhagavānviśeṣaṁ phalgunasya ca.
22. nimitte dūrapātitve laghutve dṛḍhavedhane
mama bravītu bhagavān viśeṣam phālgunasya ca
22. bhagavān mama phālgunasya ca nimitte dūrapātitve
laghutve dṛḍhavedhane viśeṣam bravītu
22. O revered one, please tell me the distinction between Arjuna and me concerning precision aiming, long-range shooting, swiftness, and powerful penetration.
विद्याविशेषमिच्छामि ज्ञातुमाचार्य तत्त्वतः ।
ममार्जुनस्य च विभो यथातत्त्वं प्रचक्ष्व मे ॥२३॥
23. vidyāviśeṣamicchāmi jñātumācārya tattvataḥ ,
mamārjunasya ca vibho yathātattvaṁ pracakṣva me.
23. vidyāviśeṣam icchāmi jñātum ācārya tattvataḥ mama
arjunasya ca vibho yathātattvam pracakṣva me
23. ācārya vibho,
mama arjunasya ca vidyāviśeṣam tattvataḥ jñātum icchāmi.
yathātattvam me pracakṣva.
23. O Teacher, O powerful one, I wish to know the distinction in skill (vidyā) between Arjuna and me, truthfully. Please explain it to me as it truly is.
द्रोण उवाच ।
सममाचार्यकं तात तव चैवार्जुनस्य च ।
योगाद्दुःखोचितत्वाच्च तस्मात्त्वत्तोऽधिकोऽर्जुनः ॥२४॥
24. droṇa uvāca ,
samamācāryakaṁ tāta tava caivārjunasya ca ,
yogādduḥkhocitatvācca tasmāttvatto'dhiko'rjunaḥ.
24. droṇaḥ uvāca samam ācāryakam tāta tava ca eva arjunasya
ca yogāt duḥkhocitatvāt ca tasmāt tvattaḥ adhikaḥ arjunaḥ
24. droṇaḥ uvāca.
tāta,
tava ca arjunasya ca ācāryakam samam eva.
tasmāt yogāt ca duḥkhocitatvāt ca arjunaḥ tvattaḥ adhikaḥ.
24. Droṇa said: 'Dear son, my instruction (ācāryaka) to you and Arjuna was indeed equal. But due to his dedicated practice (yoga) and his suitability for enduring hardship, Arjuna is superior to you.'
न तु ते युधि संत्रासः कार्यः पार्थात्कथंचन ।
अहं हि रक्षिता तात भयात्त्वां नात्र संशयः ॥२५॥
25. na tu te yudhi saṁtrāsaḥ kāryaḥ pārthātkathaṁcana ,
ahaṁ hi rakṣitā tāta bhayāttvāṁ nātra saṁśayaḥ.
25. na tu te yudhi saṃtrāsaḥ kāryaḥ pārthāt kathaṃcana
aham hi rakṣitā tāta bhayāt tvām na atra saṃśayaḥ
25. tu te pārthāt yudhi kathaṃcana saṃtrāsaḥ na kāryaḥ.
tāta,
aham hi tvām bhayāt rakṣitā.
atra saṃśayaḥ na.
25. But you should not fear Arjuna in battle at all. For I, dear son, am indeed your protector from any danger. There is no doubt about this.
न हि मद्बाहुगुप्तस्य प्रभवन्त्यमरा अपि ।
व्यूहिष्यामि च तं व्यूहं यं पार्थो न तरिष्यति ॥२६॥
26. na hi madbāhuguptasya prabhavantyamarā api ,
vyūhiṣyāmi ca taṁ vyūhaṁ yaṁ pārtho na tariṣyati.
26. na hi matbāhuguptasya prabhavanti amarāḥ api
vyūhiṣyāmi ca tam vyūham yam pārthaḥ na tariṣyati
26. hi matbāhuguptasya na amarāḥ api prabhavanti ca
tam vyūham yam pārthaḥ na tariṣyati vyūhiṣyāmi
26. Indeed, even the gods are not capable against one who is protected by my arms. And I will arrange that formation (vyūha) which Pārtha (Arjuna) will not be able to overcome.
तस्माद्युध्यस्व मा भैस्त्वं स्वधर्ममनुपालय ।
पितृपैतामहं मार्गमनुयाहि नराधिप ॥२७॥
27. tasmādyudhyasva mā bhaistvaṁ svadharmamanupālaya ,
pitṛpaitāmahaṁ mārgamanuyāhi narādhipa.
27. tasmāt yudhyasva mā bhaiḥ tvam svadharmam
anupālaya pitṛpaitāmaham mārgam anuyāhi narādhipa
27. tasmāt tvam yudhyasva mā bhaiḥ svadharmam
anupālaya narādhipa pitṛpaitāmaham mārgam anuyāhi
27. Therefore, fight! Do not be afraid! Uphold your own intrinsic nature (svadharma)! Follow the ancestral path, O king (narādhipa)!
अधीत्य विधिवद्वेदानग्नयः सुहुतास्त्वया ।
इष्टं च बहुभिर्यज्ञैर्न ते मृत्युभयाद्भयम् ॥२८॥
28. adhītya vidhivadvedānagnayaḥ suhutāstvayā ,
iṣṭaṁ ca bahubhiryajñairna te mṛtyubhayādbhayam.
28. adhītya vidhivat vedān agnayaḥ suhutāḥ tvayā
iṣṭam ca bahubhiḥ yajñaiḥ na te mṛtyubhayāt bhayam
28. tvayā vedān vidhivat adhītya agnayaḥ suhutāḥ ca
bahubhiḥ yajñaiḥ iṣṭam te mṛtyubhayāt bhayam na
28. Since you have duly studied the Vedas, have offered excellent oblations into the fires, and have performed many sacred offerings (yajña), you have no fear of death (mṛtyu).
दुर्लभं मानुषैर्मन्दैर्महाभाग्यमवाप्य तु ।
भुजवीर्यार्जिताँल्लोकान्दिव्यान्प्राप्स्यस्यनुत्तमान् ॥२९॥
29. durlabhaṁ mānuṣairmandairmahābhāgyamavāpya tu ,
bhujavīryārjitāँllokāndivyānprāpsyasyanuttamān.
29. durlabham mānuṣaiḥ mandaiḥ mahābhāgyam avāpya tu
bhujavīryārjitān lokān divyān prāpsyasi anuttamān
29. mandaiḥ mānuṣaiḥ durlabham mahābhāgyam tu avāpya
bhujavīryārjitān divyān anuttamān lokān prāpsyasi
29. But having attained great fortune (mahābhāgya), which is difficult for sluggish humans to achieve, you will obtain divine, unsurpassed worlds (lokas), acquired by the valor of your arms.
कुरवः पाण्डवाश्चैव वृष्णयोऽन्ये च मानवाः ।
अहं च सह पुत्रेण अध्रुवा इति चिन्त्यताम् ॥३०॥
30. kuravaḥ pāṇḍavāścaiva vṛṣṇayo'nye ca mānavāḥ ,
ahaṁ ca saha putreṇa adhruvā iti cintyatām.
30. kuravaḥ pāṇḍavāḥ ca eva vṛṣṇayaḥ anye ca mānavāḥ
aham ca saha putreṇa adhruvā iti cintyatām
30. kuravaḥ pāṇḍavāḥ ca eva vṛṣṇayaḥ ca anye mānavāḥ
aham ca putreṇa saha iti adhruvā cintyatām
30. Let it be considered that the Kurus, the Pandavas, the Vrishnis, and other human beings, as well as I along with my son, are all impermanent.
पर्यायेण वयं सर्वे कालेन बलिना हताः ।
परलोकं गमिष्यामः स्वैः स्वैः कर्मभिरन्विताः ॥३१॥
31. paryāyeṇa vayaṁ sarve kālena balinā hatāḥ ,
paralokaṁ gamiṣyāmaḥ svaiḥ svaiḥ karmabhiranvitāḥ.
31. paryāyeṇa vayam sarve kālena balinā hatāḥ
paralokam gamiṣyāmaḥ svaiḥ svaiḥ karmabhiḥ anvitāḥ
31. vayam sarve kālena balinā hatāḥ svaiḥ svaiḥ
karmabhiḥ anvitāḥ paryāyeṇa paralokam gamiṣyāmaḥ
31. In due course, we all, struck down by powerful Time, will go to the other world, accompanied by our respective actions (karma).
तपस्तप्त्वा तु याँल्लोकान्प्राप्नुवन्ति तपस्विनः ।
क्षत्रधर्माश्रिताः शूराः क्षत्रियाः प्राप्नुवन्ति तान् ॥३२॥
32. tapastaptvā tu yāँllokānprāpnuvanti tapasvinaḥ ,
kṣatradharmāśritāḥ śūrāḥ kṣatriyāḥ prāpnuvanti tān.
32. tapaḥ taptvā tu yān lokān prāpnuvanti tapasvinaḥ
kṣatradharmāśritāḥ śūrāḥ kṣatriyāḥ prāpnuvanti tān
32. tapasvinaḥ tapaḥ taptvā yān lokān prāpnuvanti tu,
kṣatradharmāśritāḥ śūrāḥ kṣatriyāḥ tān prāpnuvanti
32. Indeed, the ascetics who, having performed austerities (tapas), attain certain worlds - those very worlds are also attained by brave kshatriyas who uphold the warrior's constitution (dharma).
संजय उवाच ।
एवमाश्वासितो राजन्भारद्वाजेन सैन्धवः ।
अपानुदद्भयं पार्थाद्युद्धाय च मनो दधे ॥३३॥
33. saṁjaya uvāca ,
evamāśvāsito rājanbhāradvājena saindhavaḥ ,
apānudadbhayaṁ pārthādyuddhāya ca mano dadhe.
33. saṃjaya uvāca evam āśvāsitaḥ rājan bhāradvājena saindhavaḥ
apānudat bhayam pārthāt yuddhāya ca manaḥ dadhe
33. saṃjaya uvāca rājan,
evam bhāradvājena āśvāsitaḥ saindhavaḥ pārthāt bhayam apānudat ca yuddhāya manaḥ dadhe
33. Sanjaya said: O King, thus reassured by Drona, the son of Bharadvaja, Jayadratha (Saindhava) dispelled his fear of Arjuna (Partha) and firmly set his mind on battle.
