Śalya said: Addressed thus by Śacī, the revered (Bhagavān) then spoke again: 'This is not the opportune moment for heroic action (vikrama), as Nahuṣa is much stronger.'

And he has been strengthened by the sages with offerings for the devas (havya) and offerings for the ancestors (kavya), O fiery lady. I will devise a strategy here, O goddess; you ought to carry it out.

This task is confidential and should be performed by you. O beautiful one, it must never be revealed anywhere. Go to Nahuṣa in private, O slender-waisted one, and tell him.

Having been thus addressed by the king of gods, that lotus-eyed wife then said, 'So be it,' and went towards Nahuṣa.

O king of the gods, understand what matter is in my heart. I will tell you, O king, if you grant me this favor. If you do, then with words full of affection, I shall become obedient to you.

11.
Indra has steeds, vehicles, elephants, and chariots. Here, O lord of gods, I desire for you an unprecedented vehicle, one that belongs neither to Viṣṇu, nor to Rudra, nor to the asuras, nor to the rakshasas.

O great king, O lord, let the assembled sages carry you. O king, let them all carry you in a palanquin; this indeed is pleasing to me.

13.
You ought not to be considered equal to either the asuras or the gods. Take the glory of all by your own power, for it is evident from your presence. No powerful being wishes to stand before you.

14.
Shalya said: Upon being addressed in this manner, Nahuṣa indeed greatly rejoiced at that time, it is said. And the lord of gods (Nahuṣa) then spoke words to that blameless one.

15.
O lady of excellent complexion, you have described this unprecedented vehicle. O goddess with a beautiful face, it is indeed greatly pleasing to me; I am under your control.

16.
Indeed, one who takes ascetics (munin) as his vehicles is not weak in power. I am an ascetic (tapasvin), mighty, and the lord of all beings that have been, will be, and are now.

17.
If I become angry, the world (jagat) would cease to exist; everything is established in me. The Devas, Dānavas, Gandharvas, Kinnaras, Uragas, and Rākṣasas...

18.
O pure-smiling one (śucismite), all the worlds are insufficient to withstand me when I am angry. Whomever I perceive with my eye, I steal his radiance (tejas).

19.
Therefore, O goddess, I shall fulfill your condition; there is no doubt about it. All the seven sages and the brahmin sages will carry me. Behold our greatness and prosperity, O beautiful woman!

20.
Having spoken thus, and having dismissed that fair-faced goddess, he then harnessed the sages, who were firm in their observances, to his celestial conveyance.

21.
Hostile to Brahmins, endowed with strength, arrogant from the intoxication of his boon, and acting as he pleased, that evil-minded Nahusha caused those sages to carry him.

22.
Dismissed by Nahusha, she then spoke to Bṛhaspati: "The period of the condition that Nahusha made for me here is running short. You must quickly search for Indra, and show compassion to me, your devotee."

23.
Indeed, the revered Brihaspati said to her, 'O goddess, you should not fear Nahusha, who possesses a wicked mind.'

24.
Indeed, this worst of men will not last long; he is already doomed. He is ignorant of natural law (dharma) and, furthermore, he was struck down by the great sages due to his making them his conveyances, O auspicious one.

25.
I will perform a ritual (iṣṭi) for the destruction of this evil-minded one, and I will approach Indra. Do not fear; may good fortune be upon you.

26.
Then, having kindled (the sacrificial fire) according to ritual injunctions, the greatly resplendent Brihaspati offered the supreme oblation for the purpose of attaining the king of gods (Devendra).

And from that point, the divine Lord Agni (hutāśanaḥ) himself, having assumed an astonishing female disguise, suddenly disappeared.
