Bhīmasena said: "Indeed, one must make peace with time, with the swift-moving Ender (death), with the infinite, immeasurable current that carries away everything."

You, being a mortal bound by time, consider time to be directly perceptible. O great king, your intrinsic nature (dharma) is like foam, and likewise, your intrinsic nature (dharma) is like a fruit.

3.
O son of Kunti, why should one wait when life diminishes with every blink of an eye, just as a needle gradually removes collyrium powder?

4.
Only one who is truly immortal, or one who knows the precise duration of their own life, should wait. Such a person would indeed be omniscient, perceiving everything directly.

O King, for us who are waiting, after these thirteen years have passed, time will lead us to death, having diminished our lifespan.

Indeed, for embodied beings, death is always inherent within the body. Therefore, let us strive for the kingdom even before death comes.

He who, though desiring to increase his domain, is unclear (in his resolve or methods) and does not undertake proper investigation (prasaṅkhyāna), and furthermore, does not put an end to hostilities, he perishes like a cow.

I consider the birth of that man (puruṣa) who does not put an end to hostilities, being of little courage and effort, to be fruitless, indeed, the birth of one born into a miserable state.

O King (pārthiva), [your] arms become golden; it is taught by tradition (śruti) that one should enjoy wealth (vasu) acquired by one's arms after having slain enemies in battle.

10.
O King (rājan), O subduer of enemies (arimdam), if a man (puruṣa), having slain a betrayer, were to go to hell (naraka) immediately, [then understand that] he is deemed comparable to heaven (svarga) for that [deed].

Indeed, the anguish born of intolerance is more intense than fire. Greatly tormented by it, I cannot sleep either by night or by day.

And this Partha, also known as Bibhatsu, who is the most excellent in drawing the bowstring, indeed remains utterly tormented, like a lion in its den.

This person, who alone considers himself to be the greatest among all bow-bearers in the world, is now restraining his inherent (ātmaja) rage like a great elephant.

Whatever I say is indeed for the good of all, for everyone has fallen into calamity (vyasana), yet everyone delights in war.

O tormentor of foes (parantapa), due to a flaw in your virtuous disposition (śīladoṣa) which has become filled with aversion (ghṛṇāviṣṭa), and due to your non-cruelty (ānṛśaṃsya), you, O King, endure these sufferings. No one else praises this (attitude).

You are compassionate, resembling a brahmin. How were you born in the warrior (kṣatra) class? Indeed, in this lineage, those with cruel intentions are usually born.

You have certainly heard the principles of kingship (rājadharma) as Manu expounded them—those that are harsh, characterized by treachery, prescribed, and stemming from an uncontrolled nature.

Similarly, many kings and princes, who were loyal followers of Dhṛtarāṣṭra, have been banished from their kingdoms by us.

They might also employ very many disguised agents against us. And having learned about us, they might report (our activities). That would indeed be a very great danger for us.

parimāṇena tān paśya tāvataḥ parivatsarān
31.
We have properly resided in the forest for thirteen months. By calculation, consider that duration as an equivalent number of years.
32. asti māsaḥ pratinidhiryathā prāhurmanīṣiṇaḥ ,

pūtikān iva somasya tathā idam kriyatām iti
pūtikān iva somasya tathā idam kriyatām iti
32.
There is a substitute month, just as the wise ones declare. Therefore, let this (arrangement) be made, just as pūtika plants are used as a substitute for Soma.
अथ वानडुहे राजन्साधवे साधुवाहिने ।

atha vā anaḍuhe rājan sādhave sādhuvāhine

33.
Or, O King, by generously feeding a virtuous, well-carrying ox, one is released from a single sin.
34. tasmācchatruvadhe rājankriyatāṁ niścayastvayā ,

34.

34.
Therefore, O King, you must resolve to slay the enemies. Indeed, for every warrior (kṣatriya), there is no other natural law (dharma) apart from battle.
