कृप उवाच ।
दिष्ट्या ते प्रतिकर्तव्ये मतिर्जातेयमच्युत ।
न त्वा वारयितुं शक्तो वज्रपाणिरपि स्वयम् ॥१॥
1. kṛpa uvāca ,
diṣṭyā te pratikartavye matirjāteyamacyuta ,
na tvā vārayituṁ śakto vajrapāṇirapi svayam.

acyuta na tvā vārayitum śaktaḥ vajrapāṇiḥ api svayam

1. Kṛpa said: "O Acyuta, it is fortunate that this resolve to retaliate has arisen in you. Not even Vajrapāṇi (Indra) himself would be able to stop you."
अनुयास्यावहे त्वां तु प्रभाते सहितावुभौ ।
अद्य रात्रौ विश्रमस्व विमुक्तकवचध्वजः ॥२॥
2. anuyāsyāvahe tvāṁ tu prabhāte sahitāvubhau ,
adya rātrau viśramasva vimuktakavacadhvajaḥ.

adya rātrau viśramasva vimuktakavacadhvajaḥ

2. However, both of us will follow you together in the morning. Tonight, please rest, having set aside your armor and banner.
अहं त्वामनुयास्यामि कृतवर्मा च सात्वतः ।
परानभिमुखं यान्तं रथावास्थाय दंशितौ ॥३॥
3. ahaṁ tvāmanuyāsyāmi kṛtavarmā ca sātvataḥ ,
parānabhimukhaṁ yāntaṁ rathāvāsthāya daṁśitau.
3. aham tvām anuyāsyāmi kṛtavarmā ca sātvataḥ
parān abhimukham yāntam rathau āsthāya daṃśitau
3. aham ca sātvataḥ kṛtavarmā daṃśitau rathau
āsthāya parān abhimukham yāntam tvām anuyāsyāmi
3. I will follow you, and Kṛtavarmā, the Sātvata, will also. Both of us will be armored and will mount our chariots as you advance to face the enemies.
आवाभ्यां सहितः शत्रूञ्श्वोऽसि हन्ता समागमे ।
विक्रम्य रथिनां श्रेष्ठ पाञ्चालान्सपदानुगान् ॥४॥
4. āvābhyāṁ sahitaḥ śatrūñśvo'si hantā samāgame ,
vikramya rathināṁ śreṣṭha pāñcālānsapadānugān.
4. āvābhyām sahitaḥ śatrūn śvaḥ asi hantā samāgame
vikramya rathinām śreṣṭha pāñcālān sapadānugān
4. rathinām śreṣṭha āvābhyām sahitaḥ vikramya śvaḥ
samāgame pāñcālān sapadānugān śatrūn hantā asi
4. O best among charioteers, tomorrow, accompanied by us both, you will be the slayer of the Panchalas and their followers in battle, after having shown great valor.
शक्तस्त्वमसि विक्रान्तुं विश्रमस्व निशामिमाम् ।
चिरं ते जाग्रतस्तात स्वप तावन्निशामिमाम् ॥५॥
5. śaktastvamasi vikrāntuṁ viśramasva niśāmimām ,
ciraṁ te jāgratastāta svapa tāvanniśāmimām.
5. śaktaḥ tvam asi vikrāntum viśramasva niśām imām
ciram te jāgrataḥ tāta svapa tāvat niśām imām
5. tvam vikrāntum śaktaḥ asi imām niśām viśramasva
tāta te ciram jāgrataḥ imām niśām tāvat svapa
5. You are capable of showing valor. Rest this night. O dear one, since you have been awake for a long time, sleep this night now.
विश्रान्तश्च विनिद्रश्च स्वस्थचित्तश्च मानद ।
समेत्य समरे शत्रून्वधिष्यसि न संशयः ॥६॥
6. viśrāntaśca vinidraśca svasthacittaśca mānada ,
sametya samare śatrūnvadhiṣyasi na saṁśayaḥ.
6. viśrāntaḥ ca vinidraḥ ca svasthacittaḥ ca mānada
sametya samare śatrūn vadhiṣyasi na saṃśayaḥ
6. mānada viśrāntaḥ ca vinidraḥ ca svasthacittaḥ
ca sametya samare śatrūn vadhiṣyasi na saṃśayaḥ
6. O giver of honor, having rested, being awake, and with a composed mind, you will kill the enemies in battle; there is no doubt.
न हि त्वा रथिनां श्रेष्ठ प्रगृहीतवरायुधम् ।
जेतुमुत्सहते कश्चिदपि देवेषु पावकिः ॥७॥
7. na hi tvā rathināṁ śreṣṭha pragṛhītavarāyudham ,
jetumutsahate kaścidapi deveṣu pāvakiḥ.
7. na hi tvā rathinām śreṣṭha pragṛhītavarāyudham
jetum utsahate kaścit api deveṣu pāvakiḥ
7. hi rathinām śreṣṭha pragṛhītavarāyudham tvā
jetum deveṣu api kaścit pāvakiḥ na utsahate
7. Indeed, O best among charioteers, no one, not even among the gods, nor even Pāvaki (Kartikeya), is able to conquer you, who have grasped excellent weapons.
कृपेण सहितं यान्तं युक्तं च कृतवर्मणा ।
को द्रौणिं युधि संरब्धं योधयेदपि देवराट् ॥८॥
8. kṛpeṇa sahitaṁ yāntaṁ yuktaṁ ca kṛtavarmaṇā ,
ko drauṇiṁ yudhi saṁrabdhaṁ yodhayedapi devarāṭ.
8. kṛpeṇa sahitam yāntam yuktam ca kṛtavarmaṇā kaḥ
drauṇim yudhi saṃrabdham yodhayet api devarāṭ
8. kaḥ devarāṭ api yudhi saṃrabdham kṛpeṇa sahitam
kṛtavarmaṇā ca yuktam yāntam drauṇim yodhayet
8. Who, even among the gods, would fight Droṇi (Aśvatthāman), enraged in battle, when he is accompanied by Kṛpa and joined by Kṛtavarman?
ते वयं परिविश्रान्ता विनिद्रा विगतज्वराः ।
प्रभातायां रजन्यां वै निहनिष्याम शात्रवान् ॥९॥
9. te vayaṁ pariviśrāntā vinidrā vigatajvarāḥ ,
prabhātāyāṁ rajanyāṁ vai nihaniṣyāma śātravān.
9. te vayam pariviśrāntāḥ vinidrāḥ vigatajvarāḥ
prabhātāyām rajanyām vai nihanisyāmaḥ śātravān
9. te vayam pariviśrāntāḥ vinidrāḥ vigatajvarāḥ
prabhātāyām rajanyām vai śātravān nihanisyāmaḥ
9. Once fully rested, free from sleepiness and anxiety, we will indeed destroy the enemies when dawn breaks.
तव ह्यस्त्राणि दिव्यानि मम चैव न संशयः ।
सात्वतोऽपि महेष्वासो नित्यं युद्धेषु कोविदः ॥१०॥
10. tava hyastrāṇi divyāni mama caiva na saṁśayaḥ ,
sātvato'pi maheṣvāso nityaṁ yuddheṣu kovidaḥ.
10. tava hi astrāṇi divyāni mama ca eva na saṃśayaḥ
sātvataḥ api maheṣvāsaḥ nityam yuddheṣu kovidaḥ
10. tava divyāni astrāṇi mama ca eva na saṃśayaḥ hi
sātvataḥ api maheṣvāsaḥ nityam yuddheṣu kovidaḥ
10. Indeed, there is no doubt about your divine weapons and mine. Sātvata (Kṛtavarman) is also a great archer, always proficient in battles.
ते वयं सहितास्तात सर्वाञ्शत्रून्समागतान् ।
प्रसह्य समरे हत्वा प्रीतिं प्राप्स्याम पुष्कलाम् ।
विश्रमस्व त्वमव्यग्रः स्वप चेमां निशां सुखम् ॥११॥
11. te vayaṁ sahitāstāta sarvāñśatrūnsamāgatān ,
prasahya samare hatvā prītiṁ prāpsyāma puṣkalām ,
viśramasva tvamavyagraḥ svapa cemāṁ niśāṁ sukham.
11. te vayam sahitāḥ tāta sarvān śatrūn
samāgatān prasahya samare hatvā prītim
prāpsyāmaḥ puṣkalām viśramasva tvam
avyagraḥ svapa ca imām niśām sukham
11. tāta te vayam sahitāḥ samare prasahya
samāgatān sarvān śatrūn hatvā puṣkalām
prītim prāpsyāmaḥ tvam avyagraḥ
viśramasva ca imām niśām sukham svapa
11. Dear father, we will attain immense joy after forcibly defeating and slaying all the gathered enemies in battle. As for you, remain undisturbed, rest, and sleep peacefully this night.
अहं च कृतवर्मा च प्रयान्तं त्वां नरोत्तम ।
अनुयास्याव सहितौ धन्विनौ परतापिनौ ।
रथिनं त्वरया यान्तं रथावास्थाय दंशितौ ॥१२॥
12. ahaṁ ca kṛtavarmā ca prayāntaṁ tvāṁ narottama ,
anuyāsyāva sahitau dhanvinau paratāpinau ,
rathinaṁ tvarayā yāntaṁ rathāvāsthāya daṁśitau.
12. aham ca kṛtavarmā ca prayāntam tvām
narottama anuyāsyāva sahitau
dhanvinau paratāpinau rathinam
tvarayā yāntam rathau āsthāya daṃśitau
12. narottama aham ca kṛtavarmā ca
sahitau daṃśitau dhanvinau
paratāpinau rathau āsthāya tvarayā
yāntam rathinam tvām anuyāsyāva
12. O best among men, Kṛtavarmā and I, both armored, carrying bows, and capable of tormenting enemies, will follow you together. We will mount our chariots and accompany you as you, a charioteer, swiftly proceed.
स गत्वा शिबिरं तेषां नाम विश्राव्य चाहवे ।
ततः कर्तासि शत्रूणां युध्यतां कदनं महत् ॥१३॥
13. sa gatvā śibiraṁ teṣāṁ nāma viśrāvya cāhave ,
tataḥ kartāsi śatrūṇāṁ yudhyatāṁ kadanaṁ mahat.
13. saḥ gatvā śibiram teṣām nāma viśrāvya ca āhave
tataḥ kartā asi śatrūṇām yudhyatām kadanam mahat
13. saḥ teṣām śibiram gatvā ca āhave nāma viśrāvya
tataḥ yudhyatām śatrūṇām mahat kadanam kartā asi
13. Once you have gone to their camp and proclaimed your name, both there and in battle, you will then bring about a great slaughter of the fighting enemies.
कृत्वा च कदनं तेषां प्रभाते विमलेऽहनि ।
विहरस्व यथा शक्रः सूदयित्वा महासुरान् ॥१४॥
14. kṛtvā ca kadanaṁ teṣāṁ prabhāte vimale'hani ,
viharasva yathā śakraḥ sūdayitvā mahāsurān.
14. kṛtvā ca kadanam teṣām prabhāte vimale ahani
viharasva yathā śakraḥ sūdayitvā mahāsurān
14. teṣām kadanam kṛtvā ca vimale ahani prabhāte
mahāsurān sūdayitvā yathā śakraḥ viharasva
14. And after you have inflicted a slaughter upon them on a clear morning, you may revel, just as Śakra (Indra) rejoices after destroying the great asuras.
त्वं हि शक्तो रणे जेतुं पाञ्चालानां वरूथिनीम् ।
दैत्यसेनामिव क्रुद्धः सर्वदानवसूदनः ॥१५॥
15. tvaṁ hi śakto raṇe jetuṁ pāñcālānāṁ varūthinīm ,
daityasenāmiva kruddhaḥ sarvadānavasūdanaḥ.
15. tvam hi śaktaḥ raṇe jetum pāñcālānām varūthinīm
daityasenām iva kruddhaḥ sarvadānavasūdanaḥ
15. tvam hi kruddhaḥ sarvadānavasūdanaḥ raṇe
pāñcālānām varūthinīm daityasenām iva jetum śaktaḥ
15. Indeed, you are capable of conquering the Pañcāla army in battle, just as you, enraged and the destroyer of all Dānavas (demons), would conquer the Daitya army.
मया त्वां सहितं संख्ये गुप्तं च कृतवर्मणा ।
न सहेत विभुः साक्षाद्वज्रपाणिरपि स्वयम् ॥१६॥
16. mayā tvāṁ sahitaṁ saṁkhye guptaṁ ca kṛtavarmaṇā ,
na saheta vibhuḥ sākṣādvajrapāṇirapi svayam.
16. mayā tvām sahitam saṅkhye guptam ca kṛtavarmaṇā
na saheta vibhuḥ sākṣāt vajrapāṇiḥ api svayam
16. saṅkhye mayā ca kṛtavarmaṇā sahitam guptam tvām
sākṣāt svayam api vibhuḥ vajrapāṇiḥ na saheta
16. Even the mighty Indra (Vajrapāṇi) himself, appearing in person, would not be able to withstand you, accompanied and protected by me and Kṛtavarman, in battle.
न चाहं समरे तात कृतवर्मा तथैव च ।
अनिर्जित्य रणे पाण्डून्व्यपयास्याव कर्हिचित् ॥१७॥
17. na cāhaṁ samare tāta kṛtavarmā tathaiva ca ,
anirjitya raṇe pāṇḍūnvyapayāsyāva karhicit.
17. na ca aham samare tāta kṛtavarmā tathā eva ca
anirjitya raṇe pāṇḍūn vyapayāsyāva karhicit
17. tāta aham ca tathā eva kṛtavarmā raṇe pāṇḍūn
anirjitya samare karhicit na vyapayāsyāva
17. Dear one, neither I nor Kṛtavarman will ever withdraw from battle without first conquering the Pāṇḍavas.
हत्वा च समरे क्षुद्रान्पाञ्चालान्पाण्डुभिः सह ।
निवर्तिष्यामहे सर्वे हता वा स्वर्गगा वयम् ॥१८॥
18. hatvā ca samare kṣudrānpāñcālānpāṇḍubhiḥ saha ,
nivartiṣyāmahe sarve hatā vā svargagā vayam.
18. hatvā ca samare kṣudrān pāñcālān pāṇḍubhiḥ saha
nivartiṣyāmahe sarve hatāḥ vā svargagāḥ vayam
18. vayam ca sarve pāṇḍubhiḥ saha samare kṣudrān
pāñcālān hatvā nivartiṣyāmahe vā hatāḥ svargagāḥ
18. Having slain the insignificant Pāñcālas along with the Pāṇḍavas in battle, all of us shall return. Or, if we are killed, we shall attain heaven.
सर्वोपायैः सहायास्ते प्रभाते वयमेव हि ।
सत्यमेतन्महाबाहो प्रब्रवीमि तवानघ ॥१९॥
19. sarvopāyaiḥ sahāyāste prabhāte vayameva hi ,
satyametanmahābāho prabravīmi tavānagha.
19. sarva upāyaiḥ sahāyāḥ te prabhāte vayam eva hi
satyam etat mahābāho prabravīmi tava anagha
19. mahābāho anagha etat satyam tava prabravīmi hi
vayam eva prabhāte sarva upāyaiḥ te sahāyāḥ
19. O mighty-armed and sinless one, I truly declare to you that we ourselves will be your helpers by all means tomorrow morning.
एवमुक्तस्ततो द्रौणिर्मातुलेन हितं वचः ।
अब्रवीन्मातुलं राजन्क्रोधादुद्वृत्य लोचने ॥२०॥
20. evamuktastato drauṇirmātulena hitaṁ vacaḥ ,
abravīnmātulaṁ rājankrodhādudvṛtya locane.
20. evam uktaḥ tataḥ drauṇiḥ mātulena hitam vacaḥ
abravīt mātulam rājan krodhāt udvṛtya locane
20. rājan mātulena hitam vacaḥ evam uktaḥ tataḥ
drauṇiḥ krodhāt locane udvṛtya mātulam abravīt
20. O King, thus addressed with beneficial words by his maternal uncle, Drauṇi, rolling his eyes in anger, spoke to his maternal uncle.
आतुरस्य कुतो निद्रा नरस्यामर्षितस्य च ।
अर्थांश्चिन्तयतश्चापि कामयानस्य वा पुनः ॥२१॥
21. āturasya kuto nidrā narasyāmarṣitasya ca ,
arthāṁścintayataścāpi kāmayānasya vā punaḥ.
21. āturasya kutaḥ nidrā narasya amarṣitasya ca
arthān cintayataḥ ca api kāmayānasya vā punaḥ
21. āturasya narasya ca amarṣitasya kutaḥ nidrā? ca api
arthān cintayataḥ vā punaḥ kāmayānasya (kutaḥ nidrā?)
21. From where can sleep come for a distressed person, or for an enraged man? And also, how can it come for one who is constantly contemplating his goals, or for one who is yearning for something?
तदिदं समनुप्राप्तं पश्य मेऽद्य चतुष्टयम् ।
यस्य भागश्चतुर्थो मे स्वप्नमह्नाय नाशयेत् ॥२२॥
22. tadidaṁ samanuprāptaṁ paśya me'dya catuṣṭayam ,
yasya bhāgaścaturtho me svapnamahnāya nāśayet.
22. tat idam samanuprāptam paśya me adya catuṣṭayam
yasya bhāgaḥ caturthaḥ me svapnam ahnāya nāśayet
22. paśya me adya tat idam catuṣṭayam samanuprāptam,
yasya caturthaḥ bhāgaḥ me svapnam ahnāya nāśayet
22. Behold, this set of four (things) has befallen me today, the fourth component of which is enough to quickly destroy my sleep.
किं नाम दुःखं लोकेऽस्मिन्पितुर्वधमनुस्मरन् ।
हृदयं निर्दहन्मेऽद्य रात्र्यहानि न शाम्यति ॥२३॥
23. kiṁ nāma duḥkhaṁ loke'sminpiturvadhamanusmaran ,
hṛdayaṁ nirdahanme'dya rātryahāni na śāmyati.
23. kim nāma duḥkham loke asmin pituḥ vadham anusmaran
hṛdayam nirdahan me adya rātryahāni na śāmyati
23. asmin loke pituḥ vadham anusmaran kim nāma duḥkham (asti)? me
hṛdayam nirdahan (idam duḥkham) adya rātryahāni na śāmyati
23. What suffering in this world can compare to remembering my father's murder? Burning my heart, it does not subside day or night.
यथा च निहतः पापैः पिता मम विशेषतः ।
प्रत्यक्षमपि ते सर्वं तन्मे मर्माणि कृन्तति ॥२४॥
24. yathā ca nihataḥ pāpaiḥ pitā mama viśeṣataḥ ,
pratyakṣamapi te sarvaṁ tanme marmāṇi kṛntati.
24. yathā ca nihataḥ pāpaiḥ pitā mama viśeṣataḥ
pratyakṣam api te sarvam tat me marmāṇi kṛntati
24. yathā ca mama pitā pāpaiḥ viśeṣataḥ nihataḥ te
pratyakṣam api tat sarvam me marmāṇi kṛntati
24. And how my father was especially killed by the sinful, even though all of that is directly visible to you, it pierces my very vitals.
कथं हि मादृशो लोके मुहूर्तमपि जीवति ।
द्रोणो हतेति यद्वाचः पाञ्चालानां शृणोम्यहम् ॥२५॥
25. kathaṁ hi mādṛśo loke muhūrtamapi jīvati ,
droṇo hateti yadvācaḥ pāñcālānāṁ śṛṇomyaham.
25. katham hi mādṛśaḥ loke muhūrtam api jīvati
droṇaḥ hata iti yat vācaḥ pāñcālānām śṛṇomi aham
25. hi mādṛśaḥ loke muhūrtam api katham jīvati yat
aham pāñcālānām droṇaḥ hata iti vācaḥ śṛṇomi
25. Indeed, how can one like me live even for a moment in this world, when I hear the words of the Pāñcālas proclaiming, 'Droṇa is killed'?
दृष्टद्युम्नमहत्वाजौ नाहं जीवितुमुत्सहे ।
स मे पितृवधाद्वध्यः पाञ्चाला ये च संगताः ॥२६॥
26. dṛṣṭadyumnamahatvājau nāhaṁ jīvitumutsahe ,
sa me pitṛvadhādvadhyaḥ pāñcālā ye ca saṁgatāḥ.
26. dṛṣṭadyumnam ahatvā ājau na aham jīvitum utsahe
saḥ me pitṛvadhāt vadhyaḥ pāñcālāḥ ye ca saṅgatāḥ
26. aham ājau dṛṣṭadyumnam ahatvā jīvitum na utsahe
saḥ pitṛvadhāt me vadhyaḥ ye ca saṅgatāḥ pāñcālāḥ
26. I have no desire to live without killing Dhṛṣṭadyumna in battle. He is certainly worthy of being killed by me because he caused my father's death, and so are all those Pāñcālas who have allied with him.
विलापो भग्नसक्थस्य यस्तु राज्ञो मया श्रुतः ।
स पुनर्हृदयं कस्य क्रूरस्यापि न निर्दहेत् ॥२७॥
27. vilāpo bhagnasakthasya yastu rājño mayā śrutaḥ ,
sa punarhṛdayaṁ kasya krūrasyāpi na nirdahet.
27. vilāpaḥ bhagnasakthasya yaḥ tu rājñaḥ mayā śrutaḥ
saḥ punaḥ hṛdayam kasya krūrasya api na nirdrahet
27. tu bhagnasakthasya rājñaḥ yaḥ vilāpaḥ mayā śrutaḥ
saḥ punaḥ krūrasya api kasya hṛdayam na nirdrahet
27. But the lamentation of the king with broken thighs, which I heard, whose heart, even of a cruel person, would it not burn anew?
कस्य ह्यकरुणस्यापि नेत्राभ्यामश्रु नाव्रजेत् ।
नृपतेर्भग्नसक्थस्य श्रुत्वा तादृग्वचः पुनः ॥२८॥
28. kasya hyakaruṇasyāpi netrābhyāmaśru nāvrajet ,
nṛpaterbhagnasakthasya śrutvā tādṛgvacaḥ punaḥ.
28. kasya hi akaruṇasya api netrābhyām aśru na āvrajet
nṛpateḥ bhagnasakthasya śrutvā tādṛk vacaḥ punaḥ
28. hi akaruṇasya api kasya netrābhyām aśru na āvrajet
bhagnasakthasya nṛpateḥ tādṛk vacaḥ punaḥ śrutvā
28. Indeed, whose eyes, even those of a heartless person, would not shed tears upon hearing such words again from the king whose thighs were shattered?
यश्चायं मित्रपक्षो मे मयि जीवति निर्जितः ।
शोकं मे वर्धयत्येष वारिवेग इवार्णवम् ।
एकाग्रमनसो मेऽद्य कुतो निद्रा कुतः सुखम् ॥२९॥
29. yaścāyaṁ mitrapakṣo me mayi jīvati nirjitaḥ ,
śokaṁ me vardhayatyeṣa vārivega ivārṇavam ,
ekāgramanaso me'dya kuto nidrā kutaḥ sukham.
29. yaḥ ca ayam mitrapakṣaḥ me mayi jīvati
nirjitaḥ śokam me vardhayati eṣa
vārivegaḥ iva arṇavam ekāgramanasaḥ
me adya kutaḥ nidrā kutaḥ sukham
29. yaḥ ca ayam me mitrapakṣaḥ mayi jīvati
nirjitaḥ eṣaḥ me śokam vārivegaḥ
arṇavam iva vardhayati ekāgramanasaḥ
me adya nidrā kutaḥ sukham kutaḥ
29. And this faction of my friends, defeated while I am still alive, only increases my sorrow, just as a surge of water swells the ocean. With my mind focused today, how can there be sleep for me? How can there be happiness?
वासुदेवार्जुनाभ्यां हि तानहं परिरक्षितान् ।
अविषह्यतमान्मन्ये महेन्द्रेणापि मातुल ॥३०॥
30. vāsudevārjunābhyāṁ hi tānahaṁ parirakṣitān ,
aviṣahyatamānmanye mahendreṇāpi mātula.
30. vāsudevārjunābhyām hi tān aham parirakṣitān
aviṣahyataman manye mahendreṇa api mātula
30. mātula hi aham vāsudevārjunābhyām parirakṣitān
tān aviṣahyataman mahendreṇa api manye
30. Indeed, those protected by Vāsudeva and Arjuna, I consider them to be utterly invincible, O uncle, even by Mahendra (Indra).
न चास्मि शक्यः संयन्तुमस्मात्कार्यात्कथंचन ।
न तं पश्यामि लोकेऽस्मिन्यो मां कार्यान्निवर्तयेत् ।
इति मे निश्चिता बुद्धिरेषा साधुमता च मे ॥३१॥
31. na cāsmi śakyaḥ saṁyantumasmātkāryātkathaṁcana ,
na taṁ paśyāmi loke'sminyo māṁ kāryānnivartayet ,
iti me niścitā buddhireṣā sādhumatā ca me.
31. na ca asmi śakyaḥ saṃyantum asmāt
kāryāt kathaṃcana na tam paśyāmi loke
asmin yaḥ mām kāryāt nivartayet iti
me niścitā buddhiḥ eṣā sādhumatā ca me
31. ca asmi asmāt kāryāt kathaṃcana saṃyantum
na śakyaḥ aham asmi loke asmin tam
yaḥ mām kāryāt nivartayet na paśyāmi iti
eṣā me buddhiḥ niścitā ca me sādhumatā
31. And I cannot possibly be restrained from this task in any way. I do not see anyone in this world who could divert me from my duty (dharma). This is my firm resolve, and it is also deemed proper by me.
वार्त्तिकैः कथ्यमानस्तु मित्राणां मे पराभवः ।
पाण्डवानां च विजयो हृदयं दहतीव मे ॥३२॥
32. vārttikaiḥ kathyamānastu mitrāṇāṁ me parābhavaḥ ,
pāṇḍavānāṁ ca vijayo hṛdayaṁ dahatīva me.
32. vārttikaiḥ kathyemānaḥ tu mitrāṇām me parābhavaḥ
pāṇḍavānām ca vijayaḥ hṛdayam dahati iva me
32. me mitrāṇām parābhavaḥ ca pāṇḍavānām vijayaḥ
vārttikaiḥ kathyemānaḥ tu me hṛdayam iva dahati
32. Indeed, the news reported by messengers of my friends' defeat and the Pāṇḍavas' victory, burns my heart as if with fire.
अहं तु कदनं कृत्वा शत्रूणामद्य सौप्तिके ।
ततो विश्रमिता चैव स्वप्ता च विगतज्वरः ॥३३॥
33. ahaṁ tu kadanaṁ kṛtvā śatrūṇāmadya sauptike ,
tato viśramitā caiva svaptā ca vigatajvaraḥ.
33. aham tu kadanam kṛtvā śatrūṇām adya sauptike
tataḥ viśramitā ca eva svaptā ca vigatajvaraḥ
33. aham tu adya sauptike śatrūṇām kadanam kṛtvā
tataḥ ca eva viśramitā ca vigatajvaraḥ svaptā
33. Indeed, having accomplished the slaughter of the enemies tonight in the night attack, I shall then be rested and shall sleep, free from anxiety.
