वैशंपायन उवाच ।
तत्र ते पुरुषव्याघ्राः परमं शौचमास्थिताः ।
षड्रात्रमवसन्वीरा धनंजयदिदृक्षया ।
तस्मिन्विहरमाणाश्च रममाणाश्च पाण्डवाः ॥१॥
1. vaiśaṁpāyana uvāca ,
tatra te puruṣavyāghrāḥ paramaṁ śaucamāsthitāḥ ,
ṣaḍrātramavasanvīrā dhanaṁjayadidṛkṣayā ,
tasminviharamāṇāśca ramamāṇāśca pāṇḍavāḥ.

avasan vīrāḥ dhanaṃjayadīdṛkṣayā tasmin
viharamāṇāḥ ca ramamāṇāḥ ca pāṇḍavāḥ
1. Vaishampayana said: There, those heroes, the foremost among men (puruṣavyāghra), having adopted supreme purity, resided for six nights with the desire to see Dhananjaya. While in that place, the Pandavas continued to sport and delight themselves.
मनोज्ञे काननवरे सर्वभूतमनोरमे ।
पादपैः पुष्पविकचैः फलभारावनामितैः ॥२॥
2. manojñe kānanavare sarvabhūtamanorame ,
pādapaiḥ puṣpavikacaiḥ phalabhārāvanāmitaiḥ.

2. In that delightful, excellent forest, which was charming to all beings, (it was adorned) with trees whose flowers were fully blossomed and whose branches were bowed down by the heavy burden of their fruits.
शोभितं सर्वतोरम्यैः पुंस्कोकिलकुलाकुलैः ।
स्निग्धपत्रैरविरलैः शीतच्छायैर्मनोरमैः ॥३॥
3. śobhitaṁ sarvatoramyaiḥ puṁskokilakulākulaiḥ ,
snigdhapatrairaviralaiḥ śītacchāyairmanoramaiḥ.
3. śobhitam sarvataḥ ramyaiḥ puṃskokilakulākulaiḥ
snigdapatraiḥ aviralaiḥ śītacchāyaiḥ manoramaiḥ
3. It was adorned with (trees that were) charming on all sides, teeming with flocks of male cuckoos, possessing glossy, dense foliage, and providing cool, delightful shade.
सरांसि च विचित्राणि प्रसन्नसलिलानि च ।
कमलैः सोत्पलैस्तत्र भ्राजमानानि सर्वशः ।
पश्यन्तश्चारुरूपाणि रेमिरे तत्र पाण्डवाः ॥४॥
4. sarāṁsi ca vicitrāṇi prasannasalilāni ca ,
kamalaiḥ sotpalaistatra bhrājamānāni sarvaśaḥ ,
paśyantaścārurūpāṇi remire tatra pāṇḍavāḥ.

4. And there were wondrous lakes with clear waters, which shone everywhere with lotuses and water-lilies. The Pāṇḍavas, observing these beautiful forms, enjoyed themselves there.
पुण्यगन्धः सुखस्पर्शो ववौ तत्र समीरणः ।
ह्लादयन्पाण्डवान्सर्वान्सकृष्णान्सद्विजर्षभान् ॥५॥
5. puṇyagandhaḥ sukhasparśo vavau tatra samīraṇaḥ ,
hlādayanpāṇḍavānsarvānsakṛṣṇānsadvijarṣabhān.

5. There, a wind, sacredly fragrant and pleasant to the touch, blew, gladdening all the Pāṇḍavas, including Kṛṣṇa and the eminent Brahmins.
ततः पूर्वोत्तरो वायुः पवमानो यदृच्छया ।
सहस्रपत्रमर्काभं दिव्यं पद्ममुदावहत् ॥६॥
6. tataḥ pūrvottaro vāyuḥ pavamāno yadṛcchayā ,
sahasrapatramarkābhaṁ divyaṁ padmamudāvahat.

sahasrapatram arkābham divyam padmam udāvahat
6. Then, the north-easterly wind, blowing spontaneously, brought forth a divine lotus, thousand-petaled and radiant like the sun.
तदपश्यत पाञ्चाली दिव्यगन्धं मनोरमम् ।
अनिलेनाहृतं भूमौ पतितं जलजं शुचि ॥७॥
7. tadapaśyata pāñcālī divyagandhaṁ manoramam ,
anilenāhṛtaṁ bhūmau patitaṁ jalajaṁ śuci.

anilena āhṛtam bhūmau patitam jalajam śuci
7. Draupadī saw that divinely fragrant, delightful lotus, which was pure and water-born (jalajam), having been brought by the wind and fallen to the ground.
तच्छुभा शुभमासाद्य सौगन्धिकमनुत्तमम् ।
अतीव मुदिता राजन्भीमसेनमथाब्रवीत् ॥८॥
8. tacchubhā śubhamāsādya saugandhikamanuttamam ,
atīva muditā rājanbhīmasenamathābravīt.
8. tat śubhā śubham āsādya saugandhikam anuttamam
atīva muditā rājan bhīmasenam atha abravīt
8. O king, having obtained that supremely fragrant (saugandhika) and beautiful lotus, the auspicious (śubhā) Draupadī was exceedingly delighted. Then she spoke to Bhīmasena.
पश्य दिव्यं सुरुचिरं भीम पुष्पमनुत्तमम् ।
गन्धसंस्थानसंपन्नं मनसो मम नन्दनम् ॥९॥
9. paśya divyaṁ suruciraṁ bhīma puṣpamanuttamam ,
gandhasaṁsthānasaṁpannaṁ manaso mama nandanam.
9. paśya divyam suruciram bhīma puṣpam anuttamam
gandhasaṃsthānasampannam manasaḥ mama nandanam
9. O Bhīma, look at this divine, exceedingly beautiful, and unparalleled flower. It possesses an abundance of fragrant qualities and brings delight to my mind.
एतत्तु धर्मराजाय प्रदास्यामि परंतप ।
हरेरिदं मे कामाय काम्यके पुनराश्रमे ॥१०॥
10. etattu dharmarājāya pradāsyāmi paraṁtapa ,
hareridaṁ me kāmāya kāmyake punarāśrame.
10. etat tu dharmarājāya pradāsyāmi paraṃtapa
hariḥ idaṃ me kāmāya kāmyake punaḥ āśrame
10. O scorcher of foes, I will indeed give this to the king of righteousness (dharma-rāja). This is for my desire (kāma) from Hari, here again in the Kāmyaka hermitage (āśrama).
यदि तेऽहं प्रिया पार्थ बहूनीमान्युपाहर ।
तान्यहं नेतुमिच्छामि काम्यकं पुनराश्रमम् ॥११॥
11. yadi te'haṁ priyā pārtha bahūnīmānyupāhara ,
tānyahaṁ netumicchāmi kāmyakaṁ punarāśramam.
11. yadi te ahaṃ priyā pārtha bahūni imāni upāhara
tāni ahaṃ netum icchāmi kāmyakam punaḥ āśramam
11. O son of Pṛthā (Pārtha), if I, your dear one, am important to you and you have brought many of these things, then I wish to take those back to the Kāmyaka hermitage (āśrama) again.
एवमुक्त्वा तु पाञ्चाली भीमसेनमनिन्दिता ।
जगाम धर्मराजाय पुष्पमादाय तत्तदा ॥१२॥
12. evamuktvā tu pāñcālī bhīmasenamaninditā ,
jagāma dharmarājāya puṣpamādāya tattadā.

12. Having thus spoken to Bhīmasena, the faultless Draupadī then went to the king of righteousness (dharma-rāja), carrying that flower.
अभिप्रायं तु विज्ञाय महिष्याः पुरुषर्षभः ।
प्रियायाः प्रियकामः स भीमो भीमपराक्रमः ॥१३॥
13. abhiprāyaṁ tu vijñāya mahiṣyāḥ puruṣarṣabhaḥ ,
priyāyāḥ priyakāmaḥ sa bhīmo bhīmaparākramaḥ.
13. abhiprāyam tu vijñāya mahiṣyāḥ puruṣarṣabhaḥ
priyāyāḥ priyakāmaḥ saḥ bhīmaḥ bhīmaparākramaḥ
13. Having indeed understood the intention of his queen (mahiṣī), his beloved (priyā) one, that Bhīma - the bull among men (puruṣarṣabha), who was desirous of pleasing her (priyakāma), and possessed terrible prowess (bhīmaparākrama) -
वातं तमेवाभिमुखो यतस्तत्पुष्पमागतम् ।
आजिहीर्षुर्जगामाशु स पुष्पाण्यपराण्यपि ॥१४॥
14. vātaṁ tamevābhimukho yatastatpuṣpamāgatam ,
ājihīrṣurjagāmāśu sa puṣpāṇyaparāṇyapi.
14. vātam tam eva abhimukhaḥ yataḥ tat puṣpam āgatam
ājihīrṣuḥ jagāma āśu saḥ puṣpāṇi aparāṇi api
14. He quickly went, facing the very wind from which that flower had come, desiring to pluck it and also other flowers.
रुक्मपृष्ठं धनुर्गृह्य शरांश्चाशीविषोपमान् ।
मृगराडिव संक्रुद्धः प्रभिन्न इव कुञ्जरः ॥१५॥
15. rukmapṛṣṭhaṁ dhanurgṛhya śarāṁścāśīviṣopamān ,
mṛgarāḍiva saṁkruddhaḥ prabhinna iva kuñjaraḥ.
15. rukmapṛṣṭham dhanuḥ gṛhya śarān ca āśīviṣopamān
mṛgarāṭ iva saṃkruddhaḥ prabhinnaḥ iva kuñjaraḥ
15. Taking up a bow with a golden back and arrows resembling venomous serpents, he became intensely enraged, like a lion or a rutting elephant.
द्रौपद्याः प्रियमन्विच्छन्स्वबाहुबलमाश्रितः ।
व्यपेतभयसंमोहः शैलमभ्यपतद्बली ॥१६॥
16. draupadyāḥ priyamanvicchansvabāhubalamāśritaḥ ,
vyapetabhayasaṁmohaḥ śailamabhyapatadbalī.
16. draupadyāḥ priyam anvicchan svabāhubalam āśritaḥ
vyapetabhayasaṃmohaḥ śailam abhyapatat balī
16. Seeking to please Draupadi, relying on his own arm-strength, and free from fear or delusion, the mighty hero rushed towards the mountain.
स तं द्रुमलतागुल्मच्छन्नं नीलशिलातलम् ।
गिरिं चचारारिहरः किंनराचरितं शुभम् ॥१७॥
17. sa taṁ drumalatāgulmacchannaṁ nīlaśilātalam ,
giriṁ cacārāriharaḥ kiṁnarācaritaṁ śubham.
17. saḥ tam drumalatāgulmacchannam nīlaśilātalam
girim cacāra ariharaḥ kinnarācaritam śubham
17. He, the remover of enemies, traversed that beautiful mountain, which was covered with trees, vines, and thickets, possessed dark rock surfaces, and was frequented by Kinnaras.
नानावर्णधरैश्चित्रं धातुद्रुममृगाण्डजैः ।
सर्वभूषणसंपूर्णं भूमेर्भुजमिवोच्छ्रितम् ॥१८॥
18. nānāvarṇadharaiścitraṁ dhātudrumamṛgāṇḍajaiḥ ,
sarvabhūṣaṇasaṁpūrṇaṁ bhūmerbhujamivocchritam.
18. nānāvarṇadharaiḥ citram dhātudrumamṛgāṇḍajaiḥ
sarvabhūṣaṇasaṃpūrṇam bhūmeḥ bhujam iva ucchritam
18. Varied and adorned with diverse colors from its minerals, trees, animals, and egg-born creatures, and completely full of all ornaments, it resembled an uplifted arm of the earth.
सर्वर्तुरमणीयेषु गन्धमादनसानुषु ।
सक्तचक्षुरभिप्रायं हृदयेनानुचिन्तयन् ॥१९॥
19. sarvarturamaṇīyeṣu gandhamādanasānuṣu ,
saktacakṣurabhiprāyaṁ hṛdayenānucintayan.
19. sarvarturamaṇīyeṣu gandhamādanasānuṣu
saktacakṣuḥ abhiprāyam hṛdayena anucintayan
19. With his gaze fixed on the slopes of Mount Gandhamādana, which were charming throughout all seasons, he contemplated his purpose (abhiprāya) within his heart.
पुंस्कोकिलनिनादेषु षट्पदाभिरुतेषु च ।
बद्धश्रोत्रमनश्चक्षुर्जगामामितविक्रमः ॥२०॥
20. puṁskokilaninādeṣu ṣaṭpadābhiruteṣu ca ,
baddhaśrotramanaścakṣurjagāmāmitavikramaḥ.
20. puṃskokilaninādeṣu ṣaṭpadābhiruteṣu ca
baddhaśrotramanascakṣuḥ jagāma amitavikramaḥ
20. He of immeasurable valor (amita-vikrama) proceeded, his ears, mind, and eyes captivated by the calls of male cuckoos and the hums of bees.
जिघ्रमाणो महातेजाः सर्वर्तुकुसुमोद्भवम् ।
गन्धमुद्दाममुद्दामो वने मत्त इव द्विपः ॥२१॥
21. jighramāṇo mahātejāḥ sarvartukusumodbhavam ,
gandhamuddāmamuddāmo vane matta iva dvipaḥ.
21. jighramāṇaḥ mahātejāḥ sarvartukusumodbhavam
gandham uddāmam uddāmaḥ vane mattaḥ iva dvipaḥ
21. The greatly effulgent (mahātejāḥ) and powerful one, like an intoxicated elephant in the forest, smelled the strong fragrance (gandha) emanating from the flowers of all seasons.
ह्रियमाणश्रमः पित्रा संप्रहृष्टतनूरुहः ।
पितुः संस्पर्शशीतेन गन्धमादनवायुना ॥२२॥
22. hriyamāṇaśramaḥ pitrā saṁprahṛṣṭatanūruhaḥ ,
pituḥ saṁsparśaśītena gandhamādanavāyunā.

pituḥ saṃsparśaśītena gandhamādanavāyunā
22. His fatigue was being dispelled by his father, and the hair on his body stood erect with joy, all due to the cooling breeze from the Gandhamādana mountain, which had been made cool by his father's touch.
स यक्षगन्धर्वसुरब्रह्मर्षिगणसेवितम् ।
विलोडयामास तदा पुष्पहेतोररिंदमः ॥२३॥
23. sa yakṣagandharvasurabrahmarṣigaṇasevitam ,
viloḍayāmāsa tadā puṣpahetorariṁdamaḥ.
23. sa yakṣagandharvasurabrahmarṣigaṇasevitam
vilodayāmāsa tadā puṣpahetoḥ ariṃdamaḥ
23. Then, that subduer of enemies (ariṃdama) churned [the region] frequented by groups of yakṣas, gandharvas, devas, and brahmin sages, all for the sake of flowers.
विषमच्छेदरचितैरनुलिप्तमिवाङ्गुलैः ।
विमलैर्धातुविच्छेदैः काञ्चनाञ्जनराजतैः ॥२४॥
24. viṣamacchedaracitairanuliptamivāṅgulaiḥ ,
vimalairdhātuvicchedaiḥ kāñcanāñjanarājataiḥ.
24. viṣamacchedaracitāiḥ anuliptam iva aṅgulāiḥ
vimalāiḥ dhātuvicchedāiḥ kāñcanāñjanarājatāiḥ
24. The [mountain] appeared as if smeared by fingers, and by pure mineral streaks – created with uneven cuts, [streaks] resembling gold, antimony (collyrium), and silver.
सपक्षमिव नृत्यन्तं पार्श्वलग्नैः पयोधरैः ।
मुक्ताहारैरिव चितं च्युतैः प्रस्रवणोदकैः ॥२५॥
25. sapakṣamiva nṛtyantaṁ pārśvalagnaiḥ payodharaiḥ ,
muktāhārairiva citaṁ cyutaiḥ prasravaṇodakaiḥ.
25. sapakṣam iva nṛtyantam pārśvalagnāiḥ payodharāiḥ
muktāhārāiḥ iva citam cyutāiḥ prasravaṇodakāiḥ
25. It appeared as if dancing with wings, having clouds clinging to its sides. It was also as if covered by pearl necklaces, [formed] by its flowing spring waters.
अभिरामनदीकुञ्जनिर्झरोदरकन्दरम् ।
अप्सरोनूपुररवैः प्रनृत्तबहुबर्हिणम् ॥२६॥
26. abhirāmanadīkuñjanirjharodarakandaram ,
apsaronūpuraravaiḥ pranṛttabahubarhiṇam.

26. It was a region with enchanting river-groves, waterfalls, and caves within, where many peacocks danced vigorously to the sounds of the anklets of celestial nymphs (apsaras).
दिग्वारणविषाणाग्रैर्घृष्टोपलशिलातलम् ।
स्रस्तांशुकमिवाक्षोभ्यैर्निम्नगानिःसृतैर्जलैः ॥२७॥
27. digvāraṇaviṣāṇāgrairghṛṣṭopalaśilātalam ,
srastāṁśukamivākṣobhyairnimnagāniḥsṛtairjalaiḥ.
27. digvāraṇaviṣāṇāgraiḥ ghṛṣṭopalaśilātalam
srastāṃśukam iva akṣobhyaiḥ nimnaganissṛtaiḥ jalaiḥ
27. Its rock-surfaces were grazed by the tips of the tusks of the guardian elephants of the directions. It was as if its garments were loosened by the impassable waters gushing forth from the rivers.
सशष्पकवलैः स्वस्थैरदूरपरिवर्तिभिः ।
भयस्याज्ञैश्च हरिणैः कौतूहलनिरीक्षितः ॥२८॥
28. saśaṣpakavalaiḥ svasthairadūraparivartibhiḥ ,
bhayasyājñaiśca hariṇaiḥ kautūhalanirīkṣitaḥ.
28. saśapākavalaiḥ svasthaiḥ adūrapaparivartibhiḥ
bhayasya ajñaiḥ ca hariṇaiḥ kautūhalanirīkṣitaḥ
28. He was watched with curiosity by deer who, tranquil and unaware of fear, grazed nearby with mouthfuls of grass.
चालयन्नूरुवेगेन लताजालान्यनेकशः ।
आक्रीडमानः कौन्तेयः श्रीमान्वायुसुतो ययौ ॥२९॥
29. cālayannūruvegena latājālānyanekaśaḥ ,
ākrīḍamānaḥ kaunteyaḥ śrīmānvāyusuto yayau.
29. cālayan ūruvegena latājālāni anekaśaḥ
ākrīḍamānaḥ kaunteyaḥ śrīmān vāyusutaḥ yayau
29. Shaking many masses of creepers with the force of his thighs, the glorious Kaunteya, son of Vayu, proceeded, frolicking as he went.
प्रियामनोरथं कर्तुमुद्यतश्चारुलोचनः ।
प्रांशुः कनकतालाभः सिंहसंहननो युवा ॥३०॥
30. priyāmanorathaṁ kartumudyataścārulocanaḥ ,
prāṁśuḥ kanakatālābhaḥ siṁhasaṁhanano yuvā.
30. priyāmanoratham kartum udyataḥ cārulocanaḥ
prāṃśuḥ kanakatālābhaḥ siṃhasaṃhananaḥ yuvā
30. A young man, ready to fulfill his beloved's desire, had beautiful eyes, was tall like a golden palm tree, and possessed a lion-like physique.
मत्तवारणविक्रान्तो मत्तवारणवेगवान् ।
मत्तवारणताम्राक्षो मत्तवारणवारणः ॥३१॥
31. mattavāraṇavikrānto mattavāraṇavegavān ,
mattavāraṇatāmrākṣo mattavāraṇavāraṇaḥ.
31. mattavāraṇavikrāntaḥ mattavāraṇavegavān
mattavāraṇatāmrākṣaḥ mattavāraṇavāraṇaḥ
31. He was mighty with the prowess of an intoxicated elephant, swift as an intoxicated elephant, and red-eyed like an intoxicated elephant; yet he was also the repeller of intoxicated elephants.
प्रियपार्श्वोपविष्टाभिर्व्यावृत्ताभिर्विचेष्टितैः ।
यक्षगन्धर्वयोषाभिरदृश्याभिर्निरीक्षितः ॥३२॥
32. priyapārśvopaviṣṭābhirvyāvṛttābhirviceṣṭitaiḥ ,
yakṣagandharvayoṣābhiradṛśyābhirnirīkṣitaḥ.
32. priyapārśvopaviṣṭābhiḥ vyāvṛttābhiḥ viceṣṭitaiḥ
yakṣagandharvayoṣābhiḥ adṛśyābhiḥ nirīkṣitaḥ
32. He was observed by invisible Yakṣa and Gandharva women who, while seated beside their beloveds, turned their attention (towards him) through their gestures.
नवावतारं रूपस्य विक्रीणन्निव पाण्डवः ।
चचार रमणीयेषु गन्धमादनसानुषु ॥३३॥
33. navāvatāraṁ rūpasya vikrīṇanniva pāṇḍavaḥ ,
cacāra ramaṇīyeṣu gandhamādanasānuṣu.
33. navāvatāram rūpasya vikrīṇan iva pāṇḍavaḥ
cacāra ramaṇīyeṣu gandhamādanasānuṣu
33. The Pāṇḍava wandered on the charming slopes of Gandhamādana, as if displaying a new manifestation (avatāra) of his beauty.
संस्मरन्विविधान्क्लेशान्दुर्योधनकृतान्बहून् ।
द्रौपद्या वनवासिन्याः प्रियं कर्तुं समुद्यतः ॥३४॥
34. saṁsmaranvividhānkleśānduryodhanakṛtānbahūn ,
draupadyā vanavāsinyāḥ priyaṁ kartuṁ samudyataḥ.
34. saṃsmaran vividhān kleśān duryodhanakṛtān bahūn
draupadyā vanavāsinyāḥ priyam kartum samudyataḥ
34. Recalling the many different troubles inflicted by Duryodhana, he was ready to do something pleasing for Draupadi, who was dwelling in the forest.
सोऽचिन्तयद्गते स्वर्गमर्जुने मयि चागते ।
पुष्पहेतोः कथं न्वार्यः करिष्यति युधिष्ठिरः ॥३५॥
35. so'cintayadgate svargamarjune mayi cāgate ,
puṣpahetoḥ kathaṁ nvāryaḥ kariṣyati yudhiṣṭhiraḥ.
35. saḥ acintayat gate svargam arjune mayi ca āgate
puṣpahetoḥ kathaṃ nu āryaḥ kariṣyati yudhiṣṭhiraḥ
35. He thought, "Since Arjuna has gone to heaven and I have returned, how will the noble Yudhiṣṭhira obtain flowers?"
स्नेहान्नरवरो नूनमविश्वासाद्वनस्य च ।
नकुलं सहदेवं च न मोक्ष्यति युधिष्ठिरः ॥३६॥
36. snehānnaravaro nūnamaviśvāsādvanasya ca ,
nakulaṁ sahadevaṁ ca na mokṣyati yudhiṣṭhiraḥ.
36. snehāt naravaraḥ nūnam aviśvāsāt vanasya ca
nakulam sahadevam ca na mokṣyati yudhiṣṭhiraḥ
36. Due to affection and a lack of trust in the forest (its dangers), the best among men, Yudhiṣṭhira, will surely not send Nakula and Sahadeva.
कथं नु कुसुमावाप्तिः स्याच्छीघ्रमिति चिन्तयन् ।
प्रतस्थे नरशार्दूलः पक्षिराडिव वेगितः ॥३७॥
37. kathaṁ nu kusumāvāptiḥ syācchīghramiti cintayan ,
pratasthe naraśārdūlaḥ pakṣirāḍiva vegitaḥ.

37. Thinking, "How indeed can I quickly obtain these flowers?", that tiger among men set out, swift as the king of birds.
कम्पयन्मेदिनीं पद्भ्यां निर्घात इव पर्वसु ।
त्रासयन्गजयूथानि वातरंहा वृकोदरः ॥३८॥
38. kampayanmedinīṁ padbhyāṁ nirghāta iva parvasu ,
trāsayangajayūthāni vātaraṁhā vṛkodaraḥ.

38. Bhīma (Vṛkodara), swift as the wind, shaking the earth with his feet like a thunderclap on the mountains, was frightening the herds of elephants.
सिंहव्याघ्रगणांश्चैव मर्दमानो महाबलः ।
उन्मूलयन्महावृक्षान्पोथयंश्चोरसा बली ॥३९॥
39. siṁhavyāghragaṇāṁścaiva mardamāno mahābalaḥ ,
unmūlayanmahāvṛkṣānpothayaṁścorasā balī.
39. siṃhavyāghragaṇān ca eva mardamānaḥ mahābalaḥ

39. And the very mighty one, trampling down groups of lions and tigers, uprooting great trees, and smashing them with his chest, was powerful.
लतावल्लीश्च वेगेन विकर्षन्पाण्डुनन्दनः ।
उपर्युपरि शैलाग्रमारुरुक्षुरिव द्विपः ।
विनर्दमानोऽतिभृशं सविद्युदिव तोयदः ॥४०॥
40. latāvallīśca vegena vikarṣanpāṇḍunandanaḥ ,
uparyupari śailāgramārurukṣuriva dvipaḥ ,
vinardamāno'tibhṛśaṁ savidyudiva toyadaḥ.

40. And the son of Pāṇḍu (Bhīma), forcefully tearing apart creepers and vines, was like an elephant desiring to ascend higher and higher up a mountain peak, roaring exceedingly like a cloud with lightning.
तस्य शब्देन घोरेण धनुर्घोषेण चाभिभो ।
त्रस्तानि मृगयूथानि समन्ताद्विप्रदुद्रुवुः ॥४१॥
41. tasya śabdena ghoreṇa dhanurghoṣeṇa cābhibho ,
trastāni mṛgayūthāni samantādvipradudruvuḥ.

41. O Lord (abhibho)! By his dreadful roar and the twang of his bow, the terrified herds of animals scattered in all directions.
अथापश्यन्महाबाहुर्गन्धमादनसानुषु ।
सुरम्यं कदलीषण्डं बहुयोजनविस्तृतम् ॥४२॥
42. athāpaśyanmahābāhurgandhamādanasānuṣu ,
suramyaṁ kadalīṣaṇḍaṁ bahuyojanavistṛtam.
42. atha apaśyan mahābāhuḥ gandhamādana sānuṣu

42. Then, the mighty-armed one (Bhīma) saw, on the slopes of Mount Gandhamadana, a very beautiful banana grove that extended for many yojanas.
तमभ्यगच्छद्वेगेन क्षोभयिष्यन्महाबलः ।
महागज इवास्रावी प्रभञ्जन्विविधान्द्रुमान् ॥४३॥
43. tamabhyagacchadvegena kṣobhayiṣyanmahābalaḥ ,
mahāgaja ivāsrāvī prabhañjanvividhāndrumān.
43. tam abhyagacchat vegena kṣobhayiṣyan mahābalaḥ

43. The exceedingly powerful one (Bhīma) approached that grove with great speed, intending to disturb it, just like a great elephant in rut (asrāvī) that breaks various trees.
उत्पाट्य कदलीस्कन्धान्बहुतालसमुच्छ्रयान् ।
चिक्षेप तरसा भीमः समन्ताद्बलिनां वरः ॥४४॥
44. utpāṭya kadalīskandhānbahutālasamucchrayān ,
cikṣepa tarasā bhīmaḥ samantādbalināṁ varaḥ.

44. Having uprooted the banana trunks, which were as high as many palm trees, Bhīma, the best of the powerful ones, threw them forcefully in every direction.
ततः सत्त्वान्युपाक्रामन्बहूनि च महान्ति च ।
रुरुवारणसंघाश्च महिषाश्च जलाश्रयाः ॥४५॥
45. tataḥ sattvānyupākrāmanbahūni ca mahānti ca ,
ruruvāraṇasaṁghāśca mahiṣāśca jalāśrayāḥ.

ruru-vāraṇasaṃghāḥ ca mahiṣāḥ ca jalāśrayāḥ
45. Then, many great creatures came forth, including herds of ruru deer and elephants, and buffaloes that resided in water.
सिंहव्याघ्राश्च संक्रुद्धा भीमसेनमभिद्रवन् ।
व्यादितास्या महारौद्रा विनदन्तोऽतिभीषणाः ॥४६॥
46. siṁhavyāghrāśca saṁkruddhā bhīmasenamabhidravan ,
vyāditāsyā mahāraudrā vinadanto'tibhīṣaṇāḥ.
46. siṃhavyāghrāḥ ca saṃkruddhāḥ bhīmasenam abhidravan
vyāditāsyāḥ mahāraudrāḥ vinadantaḥ atibhīṣaṇāḥ
46. Enraged lions and tigers, extremely fierce and terrifying, rushed towards Bhīmasena with their mouths wide open and roaring.
ततो वायुसुतः क्रोधात्स्वबाहुबलमाश्रितः ।
गजेनाघ्नन्गजं भीमः सिंहं सिंहेन चाभिभूः ।
तलप्रहारैरन्यांश्च व्यहनत्पाण्डवो बली ॥४७॥
47. tato vāyusutaḥ krodhātsvabāhubalamāśritaḥ ,
gajenāghnangajaṁ bhīmaḥ siṁhaṁ siṁhena cābhibhūḥ ,
talaprahārairanyāṁśca vyahanatpāṇḍavo balī.
47. tataḥ vāyusutaḥ krodhāt svabāhubalam
āśritaḥ gajena aghnan gajam bhīmaḥ
siṃham siṃhena ca abhibhūḥ talaprahāraiḥ
anyān ca vyahanat pāṇḍavaḥ balī
47. Then the son of Vāyu (Bhīma), enraged and relying on the strength of his own arms, that overpowering Bhīma, killed an elephant with an elephant and a lion with a lion. The mighty Pāṇḍava also struck others with blows of his palms.
ते हन्यमाना भीमेन सिंहव्याघ्रतरक्षवः ।
भयाद्विससृपुः सर्वे शकृन्मूत्रं च सुस्रुवुः ॥४८॥
48. te hanyamānā bhīmena siṁhavyāghratarakṣavaḥ ,
bhayādvisasṛpuḥ sarve śakṛnmūtraṁ ca susruvuḥ.
48. te hanyamānāḥ bhīmena siṃhavyāghratarakṣavaḥ
bhayāt visasṛpuḥ sarve śakṛnmūtram ca susruvuḥ
48. All those lions, tigers, and hyenas, being struck by Bhīma, fled in fear and discharged their excrement and urine.
प्रविवेश ततः क्षिप्रं तानपास्य महाबलः ।
वनं पाण्डुसुतः श्रीमाञ्शब्देनापूरयन्दिशः ॥४९॥
49. praviveśa tataḥ kṣipraṁ tānapāsya mahābalaḥ ,
vanaṁ pāṇḍusutaḥ śrīmāñśabdenāpūrayandiśaḥ.
49. praviveśa tataḥ kṣipram tān apāsya mahābalaḥ
vanam pāṇḍusutaḥ śrīmān śabdena āpūrayan diśaḥ
49. Then, the mighty and glorious son of Pāṇḍu (Bhīma), having quickly driven them away, entered the forest, filling all directions with his roar.
तेन शब्देन चोग्रेण भीमसेनरवेण च ।
वनान्तरगताः सर्वे वित्रेसुर्मृगपक्षिणः ॥५०॥
50. tena śabdena cogreṇa bhīmasenaraveṇa ca ,
vanāntaragatāḥ sarve vitresurmṛgapakṣiṇaḥ.
50. tena śabdena ca ugreṇa bhīmasenaraveṇa ca
vanaantaragatāḥ sarve vitresuḥ mṛgapakṣiṇaḥ
50. By that fierce sound and Bhimasena's roar, all the animals and birds that had gone into the forest's interior trembled.
तं शब्दं सहसा श्रुत्वा मृगपक्षिसमीरितम् ।
जलार्द्रपक्षा विहगाः समुत्पेतुः सहस्रशः ॥५१॥
51. taṁ śabdaṁ sahasā śrutvā mṛgapakṣisamīritam ,
jalārdrapakṣā vihagāḥ samutpetuḥ sahasraśaḥ.

51. Having suddenly heard that sound, which was caused by the deer and birds, thousands of birds with wet wings flew up.
तानौदकान्पक्षिगणान्निरीक्ष्य भरतर्षभः ।
तानेवानुसरन्रम्यं ददर्श सुमहत्सरः ॥५२॥
52. tānaudakānpakṣigaṇānnirīkṣya bharatarṣabhaḥ ,
tānevānusaranramyaṁ dadarśa sumahatsaraḥ.
52. tān audakān pakṣigaṇān nirīkṣya bharatarṣabhaḥ
tān eva anusaran ramyam dadarśa sumahat saraḥ
52. Having seen those aquatic flocks of birds, the best of the Bharatas, following those (birds), then saw a very great and beautiful lake.
काञ्चनैः कदलीषण्डैर्मन्दमारुतकम्पितैः ।
वीज्यमानमिवाक्षोभ्यं तीरान्तरविसर्पिभिः ॥५३॥
53. kāñcanaiḥ kadalīṣaṇḍairmandamārutakampitaiḥ ,
vījyamānamivākṣobhyaṁ tīrāntaravisarpibhiḥ.

53. (The lake appeared) as if being fanned by golden groves of plantains, which were swaying due to gentle breezes and spreading along its banks, seemingly unshakable.
तत्सरोऽथावतीर्याशु प्रभूतकमलोत्पलम् ।
महागज इवोद्दामश्चिक्रीड बलवद्बली ।
विक्रीड्य तस्मिन्सुचिरमुत्ततारामितद्युतिः ॥५४॥
54. tatsaro'thāvatīryāśu prabhūtakamalotpalam ,
mahāgaja ivoddāmaścikrīḍa balavadbalī ,
vikrīḍya tasminsuciramuttatārāmitadyutiḥ.
54. tat saraḥ atha avatīrya āśu
prabhūtakmalotpalam mahāgajaḥ iva uddāmaḥ
cikrīḍa balavadbalī vikrīḍya
tasmin suciram uttatāra amitadyutiḥ
54. Then, quickly descending into that lake, which was full of abundant lotuses and water lilies, the mighty and powerful one played like a fierce great elephant. Having frolicked there for a long time, the one of immeasurable splendor then emerged.
ततोऽवगाह्य वेगेन तद्वनं बहुपादपम् ।
दध्मौ च शङ्खं स्वनवत्सर्वप्राणेन पाण्डवः ॥५५॥
55. tato'vagāhya vegena tadvanaṁ bahupādapam ,
dadhmau ca śaṅkhaṁ svanavatsarvaprāṇena pāṇḍavaḥ.
55. tataḥ avagāhya vegena tat vanam bahupādapam
dadhmau ca śaṅkham svanavat sarvaprāṇena pāṇḍavaḥ
55. Then, having swiftly entered that forest full of many trees, the Pāṇḍava, with all his might, blew his resounding conch.
तस्य शङ्खस्य शब्देन भीमसेनरवेण च ।
बाहुशब्देन चोग्रेण नर्दन्तीव गिरेर्गुहाः ॥५६॥
56. tasya śaṅkhasya śabdena bhīmasenaraveṇa ca ,
bāhuśabdena cogreṇa nardantīva girerguhāḥ.
56. tasya śaṅkhasya śabdena bhīmasenaraveṇa ca
bāhuśabdena ca ugreṇa nardanti iva gireḥ guhāḥ
56. By the sound of that conch, by Bhīmasena's roar, and by the fierce sound of his arms, the caves of the mountains roared, as it were.
तं वज्रनिष्पेषसममास्फोटितरवं भृशम् ।
श्रुत्वा शैलगुहासुप्तैः सिंहैर्मुक्तो महास्वनः ॥५७॥
57. taṁ vajraniṣpeṣasamamāsphoṭitaravaṁ bhṛśam ,
śrutvā śailaguhāsuptaiḥ siṁhairmukto mahāsvanaḥ.
57. tam vajraniṣpeṣasamam āsphoṭitaravam bhṛśam
śrutvā śailaguhāsuptaiḥ siṃhaiḥ muktaḥ mahāsvanaḥ
57. Having heard that mighty arm-slapping sound, which was like the crash of a thunderbolt, the lions sleeping in the mountain caves let out a great roar.
सिंहनादभयत्रस्तैः कुञ्जरैरपि भारत ।
मुक्तो विरावः सुमहान्पर्वतो येन पूरितः ॥५८॥
58. siṁhanādabhayatrastaiḥ kuñjarairapi bhārata ,
mukto virāvaḥ sumahānparvato yena pūritaḥ.
58. siṃhanādabhayatrastaiḥ kuñjaraiḥ api bhārata
muktaḥ virāvaḥ sumahān parvataḥ yena pūritaḥ
58. O Bhārata, even elephants, terrified by the lion's roar, let out a very great cry by which the mountain was filled.
तं तु नादं ततः श्रुत्वा सुप्तो वानरपुंगवः ।
प्राजृम्भत महाकायो हनूमान्नाम वानरः ॥५९॥
59. taṁ tu nādaṁ tataḥ śrutvā supto vānarapuṁgavaḥ ,
prājṛmbhata mahākāyo hanūmānnāma vānaraḥ.
59. tam tu nādam tataḥ śrutvā suptaḥ vānarapuṃgavaḥ
prājṛmbhata mahākāyaḥ hanūmān nāma vānaraḥ
59. Then, having heard that roar, the sleeping chief of monkeys, the gigantic monkey named Hanumān, yawned.
कदलीषण्डमध्यस्थो निद्रावशगतस्तदा ।
जृम्भमाणः सुविपुलं शक्रध्वजमिवोच्छ्रितम् ।
आस्फोटयत लाङ्गूलमिन्द्राशनिसमस्वनम् ॥६०॥
60. kadalīṣaṇḍamadhyastho nidrāvaśagatastadā ,
jṛmbhamāṇaḥ suvipulaṁ śakradhvajamivocchritam ,
āsphoṭayata lāṅgūlamindrāśanisamasvanam.

60. Then, as he yawned while lying amidst a grove of plantain trees, having been overcome by sleep, he cracked his immense tail, which was uplifted like Indra's banner and made a sound like Indra's thunderbolt.
तस्य लाङ्गूलनिनदं पर्वतः स गुहामुखैः ।
उद्गारमिव गौर्नर्दमुत्ससर्ज समन्ततः ॥६१॥
61. tasya lāṅgūlaninadaṁ parvataḥ sa guhāmukhaiḥ ,
udgāramiva gaurnardamutsasarja samantataḥ.

udgāram iva gauḥ nardam utsasarja samantataḥ
61. That mountain, through its cave mouths, released his tail's sound all around, a roar that was like an echo and resembled a cow's bellow.
स लाङ्गूलरवस्तस्य मत्तवारणनिस्वनम् ।
अन्तर्धाय विचित्रेषु चचार गिरिसानुषु ॥६२॥
62. sa lāṅgūlaravastasya mattavāraṇanisvanam ,
antardhāya vicitreṣu cacāra girisānuṣu.
62. saḥ lāṅgūla-ravaḥ tasya matta-vāraṇa-nisvanam
antardhāya vicitreṣu cacāra giri-sānuṣu
62. The sound (rava) of his tail (lāṅgūla) overshadowed the trumpeting (nisvanam) of that intoxicated elephant. He (saḥ) roamed (cacara) through the diverse (vicitreṣu) mountain slopes (girisānuṣu).
स भीमसेनस्तं श्रुत्वा संप्रहृष्टतनूरुहः ।
शब्दप्रभवमन्विच्छंश्चचार कदलीवनम् ॥६३॥
63. sa bhīmasenastaṁ śrutvā saṁprahṛṣṭatanūruhaḥ ,
śabdaprabhavamanvicchaṁścacāra kadalīvanam.
63. saḥ bhīmasenaḥ tam śrutvā sam-prahr̥ṣṭa-tanū-ruhaḥ
śabda-prabhavam anvicchan cacāra kadalī-vanam
63. Hearing that (tam śrutvā), Bhīmasena's body hairs stood on end (saṃprahr̥ṣṭatanūruhaḥ). Seeking the source (prabhavam) of the sound (śabda), he roamed (cacara) through the banana forest (kadalīvanam).
कदलीवनमध्यस्थमथ पीने शिलातले ।
स ददर्श महाबाहुर्वानराधिपतिं स्थितम् ॥६४॥
64. kadalīvanamadhyasthamatha pīne śilātale ,
sa dadarśa mahābāhurvānarādhipatiṁ sthitam.
64. kadalī-vana-madhya-stham atha pīne śilā-tale
saḥ dadarśa mahā-bāhuḥ vānara-adhipatim sthitam
64. Then (atha), upon a thick (pīne) stone slab (śilātale) in the midst (madhyastham) of the banana forest (kadalīvana), the mighty-armed (mahābāhuḥ) Bhīmasena saw (saḥ dadarśa) the lord of monkeys (vānarādhipatim) standing (sthitam).
विद्युत्संघातदुष्प्रेक्ष्यं विद्युत्संघातपिङ्गलम् ।
विद्युत्संघातसदृशं विद्युत्संघातचञ्चलम् ॥६५॥
65. vidyutsaṁghātaduṣprekṣyaṁ vidyutsaṁghātapiṅgalam ,
vidyutsaṁghātasadṛśaṁ vidyutsaṁghātacañcalam.
65. vidyut-saṃghāta-duṣprekṣyam vidyut-saṃghāta-piṅgalam
vidyut-saṃghāta-sadṛśam vidyut-saṃghāta-cañcalam
65. He was difficult to look at like a flash (saṃghāta) of lightning (vidyut), tawny (piṅgala) like a flash of lightning, resembling a flash of lightning, and flickering (cañcala) like a flash of lightning.
बाहुस्वस्तिकविन्यस्तपीनह्रस्वशिरोधरम् ।
स्कन्धभूयिष्ठकायत्वात्तनुमध्यकटीतटम् ॥६६॥
66. bāhusvastikavinyastapīnahrasvaśirodharam ,
skandhabhūyiṣṭhakāyatvāttanumadhyakaṭītaṭam.

66. His thick, short neck was positioned with his arms crossed in a svastika pattern, and because of his body's predominant shoulders, his waist and hip area were slender.
किंचिच्चाभुग्नशीर्षेण दीर्घरोमाञ्चितेन च ।
लाङ्गूलेनोर्ध्वगतिना ध्वजेनेव विराजितम् ॥६७॥
67. kiṁciccābhugnaśīrṣeṇa dīrgharomāñcitena ca ,
lāṅgūlenordhvagatinā dhvajeneva virājitam.

67. He shone, adorned with a head slightly bent, and with his long, bristly tail raised upwards like a flag.
रक्तोष्ठं ताम्रजिह्वास्यं रक्तकर्णं चलद्भ्रुवम् ।
वदनं वृत्तदंष्ट्राग्रं रश्मिवन्तमिवोडुपम् ॥६८॥
68. raktoṣṭhaṁ tāmrajihvāsyaṁ raktakarṇaṁ caladbhruvam ,
vadanaṁ vṛttadaṁṣṭrāgraṁ raśmivantamivoḍupam.

68. His face, with red lips, a coppery tongue and mouth, red ears, moving eyebrows, and rounded fangs, shone like a radiant moon.
वदनाभ्यन्तरगतैः शुक्लभासैरलंकृतम् ।
केसरोत्करसंमिश्रमशोकानामिवोत्करम् ॥६९॥
69. vadanābhyantaragataiḥ śuklabhāsairalaṁkṛtam ,
kesarotkarasaṁmiśramaśokānāmivotkaram.

69. His face was adorned by the white radiance of things (teeth) situated within his mouth, appearing as a mixture of mane and mass, like a cluster of Ashoka (aśoka) flowers.
हिरण्मयीनां मध्यस्थं कदलीनां महाद्युतिम् ।
दीप्यमानं स्ववपुषा अर्चिष्मन्तमिवानलम् ॥७०॥
70. hiraṇmayīnāṁ madhyasthaṁ kadalīnāṁ mahādyutim ,
dīpyamānaṁ svavapuṣā arciṣmantamivānalam.

70. Standing amidst golden plantain trees, he was exceedingly radiant, blazing with his own body like a flaming fire.
निरीक्षन्तमवित्रस्तं लोचनैर्मधुपिङ्गलैः ।
तं वानरवरं वीरमतिकायं महाबलम् ॥७१॥
71. nirīkṣantamavitrastaṁ locanairmadhupiṅgalaiḥ ,
taṁ vānaravaraṁ vīramatikāyaṁ mahābalam.
71. nirīkṣantam avitrastam locanaiḥ madhupiṅgalaiḥ
tam vānaravaram vīram atikāyam mahābalam
71. Looking on fearlessly with honey-brown eyes, he was that best of monkeys, heroic, enormous-bodied, and exceedingly mighty.
अथोपसृत्य तरसा भीमो भीमपराक्रमः ।
सिंहनादं समकरोद्बोधयिष्यन्कपिं तदा ॥७२॥
72. athopasṛtya tarasā bhīmo bhīmaparākramaḥ ,
siṁhanādaṁ samakarodbodhayiṣyankapiṁ tadā.

72. Then, having swiftly approached, the dreadful one, possessing formidable prowess, let out a lion's roar, intending to awaken the monkey at that time.
तेन शब्देन भीमस्य वित्रेसुर्मृगपक्षिणः ।
हनूमांश्च महासत्त्व ईषदुन्मील्य लोचने ।
अवैक्षदथ सावज्ञं लोचनैर्मधुपिङ्गलैः ॥७३॥
73. tena śabdena bhīmasya vitresurmṛgapakṣiṇaḥ ,
hanūmāṁśca mahāsattva īṣadunmīlya locane ,
avaikṣadatha sāvajñaṁ locanairmadhupiṅgalaiḥ.

mṛgapakṣiṇaḥ hanūmān ca mahāsattvaḥ
īṣad unmīlya locane avaikṣat atha
sāvajñam locanaiḥ madhupiṅgalaiḥ
73. At that sound of Bhīma, the animals and birds trembled. But Hanūmān, the exceedingly mighty one, slightly opened his two eyes and then looked disdainfully with his honey-brown eyes.
स्मितेनाभाष्य कौन्तेयं वानरो नरमब्रवीत् ।
किमर्थं सरुजस्तेऽहं सुखसुप्तः प्रबोधितः ॥७४॥
74. smitenābhāṣya kaunteyaṁ vānaro naramabravīt ,
kimarthaṁ sarujaste'haṁ sukhasuptaḥ prabodhitaḥ.

kimartham sarujaḥ te aham sukhasuptaḥ prabodhitaḥ
74. Addressing Kaunteya with a smile, the monkey spoke to the man: "Why have I, who was happily sleeping, been awakened, causing me distress?"
ननु नाम त्वया कार्या दया भूतेषु जानता ।
वयं धर्मं न जानीमस्तिर्यग्योनिं समाश्रिताः ॥७५॥
75. nanu nāma tvayā kāryā dayā bhūteṣu jānatā ,
vayaṁ dharmaṁ na jānīmastiryagyoniṁ samāśritāḥ.
75. nanu nāma tvayā kāryā dayā bhūteṣu jānatā
vayam dharmam na jānīmaḥ tiryagyonim samāśritāḥ
75. Surely, as one who knows, you should show compassion towards all beings. We do not understand what constitutes righteous conduct (dharma), having taken birth in an animal species.
मनुष्या बुद्धिसंपन्ना दयां कुर्वन्ति जन्तुषु ।
क्रूरेषु कर्मसु कथं देहवाक्चित्तदूषिषु ।
धर्मघातिषु सज्जन्ते बुद्धिमन्तो भवद्विधाः ॥७६॥
76. manuṣyā buddhisaṁpannā dayāṁ kurvanti jantuṣu ,
krūreṣu karmasu kathaṁ dehavākcittadūṣiṣu ,
dharmaghātiṣu sajjante buddhimanto bhavadvidhāḥ.

kurvanti jantuṣu krūreṣu karmasu katham
dehavākcittadūṣiṣu dharmaghātiṣu
sajjante buddhimantaḥ bhavadvidhāḥ
76. Humans, endowed with intelligence, show compassion towards creatures. How can intelligent individuals like you engage in cruel actions (karma) that corrupt body, speech, and mind, and destroy natural law (dharma)?
न त्वं धर्मं विजानासि वृद्धा नोपासितास्त्वया ।
अल्पबुद्धितया वन्यानुत्सादयसि यन्मृगान् ॥७७॥
77. na tvaṁ dharmaṁ vijānāsi vṛddhā nopāsitāstvayā ,
alpabuddhitayā vanyānutsādayasi yanmṛgān.
77. na tvam dharmam vijānāsi vṛddhāḥ na upāsitāḥ
tvayā alpabuddhitayā vanyān utsādayasi yat mṛgān
77. You do not understand righteous conduct (dharma), for you have not served the elders. It is due to your meager intelligence that you destroy forest animals.
ब्रूहि कस्त्वं किमर्थं वा वनं त्वमिदमागतः ।
वर्जितं मानुषैर्भावैस्तथैव पुरुषैरपि ॥७८॥
78. brūhi kastvaṁ kimarthaṁ vā vanaṁ tvamidamāgataḥ ,
varjitaṁ mānuṣairbhāvaistathaiva puruṣairapi.
78. brūhi kaḥ tvam kimartham vā vanam tvam idam āgataḥ
varjitam mānuṣaiḥ bhāvaiḥ tathā eva puruṣaiḥ api
78. Tell me, who are you, and for what purpose have you come to this forest? It is indeed devoid of human beings and similarly, of other persons as well.
अतः परमगम्योऽयं पर्वतः सुदुरारुहः ।
विना सिद्धगतिं वीर गतिरत्र न विद्यते ॥७९॥
79. ataḥ paramagamyo'yaṁ parvataḥ sudurāruhaḥ ,
vinā siddhagatiṁ vīra gatiratra na vidyate.
79. ataḥ param agamyaḥ ayam parvataḥ sudurāruhaḥ
vinā siddhagatim vīra gatiḥ atra na vidyate
79. Therefore, this mountain is inaccessible beyond this point and extremely difficult to ascend. O hero, without the movement (or path) of perfected beings (siddhas), there is no passage here.
कारुण्यात्सौहृदाच्चैव वारये त्वां महाबल ।
नातः परं त्वया शक्यं गन्तुमाश्वसिहि प्रभो ॥८०॥
80. kāruṇyātsauhṛdāccaiva vāraye tvāṁ mahābala ,
nātaḥ paraṁ tvayā śakyaṁ gantumāśvasihi prabho.
80. kāruṇyāt sauhṛdāt ca eva vāraye tvām mahābala na
ataḥ param tvayā śakyam gantum āśvasihi prabho
80. Out of compassion and friendship, I truly wish to prevent you, O mighty one. From this point, it is not possible for you to go further. Therefore, take comfort, O lord.
इमान्यमृतकल्पानि मूलानि च फलानि च ।
भक्षयित्वा निवर्तस्व ग्राह्यं यदि वचो मम ॥८१॥
81. imānyamṛtakalpāni mūlāni ca phalāni ca ,
bhakṣayitvā nivartasva grāhyaṁ yadi vaco mama.
81. imāni amṛtakalpāni mūlāni ca phalāni ca
bhakṣayitvā nivartasva grāhyam yadi vacaḥ mama
