वासुदेव उवाच ।
सुयोधनमतिक्रान्तमेनं पश्य धनंजय ।
आपद्गतमिमं मन्ये नास्त्यस्य सदृशो रथः ॥१॥
1. vāsudeva uvāca ,
suyodhanamatikrāntamenaṁ paśya dhanaṁjaya ,
āpadgatamimaṁ manye nāstyasya sadṛśo rathaḥ.

1. Vāsudeva said: O Dhanañjaya, behold this Suyodhana, who has gone too far. I believe he has fallen into distress; there is no chariot equal to his.
दूरपाती महेष्वासः कृतास्त्रो युद्धदुर्मदः ।
दृढास्त्रश्चित्रयोधी च धार्तराष्ट्रो महाबलः ॥२॥
2. dūrapātī maheṣvāsaḥ kṛtāstro yuddhadurmadaḥ ,
dṛḍhāstraścitrayodhī ca dhārtarāṣṭro mahābalaḥ.

2. The exceedingly powerful (mahābala) son of Dhṛtarāṣṭra (Dhārtarāṣṭra) shoots from afar, is a great archer, a master of weaponry, irresistible in battle, firm in his use of weapons, and a skillful fighter.
अत्यन्तसुखसंवृद्धो मानितश्च महारथैः ।
कृती च सततं पार्थ नित्यं द्वेष्टि च पाण्डवान् ॥३॥
3. atyantasukhasaṁvṛddho mānitaśca mahārathaiḥ ,
kṛtī ca satataṁ pārtha nityaṁ dveṣṭi ca pāṇḍavān.
3. atyantasukhasaṁvṛddhaḥ mānitaḥ ca mahārathaiḥ
kṛtī ca satatam pārtha nityam dveṣṭi ca pāṇḍavān
3. pārtha! atyantasukhasaṁvṛddhaḥ ca mahārathaiḥ
mānitaḥ ca kṛtī ca satatam nityam pāṇḍavān dveṣṭi
3. O Pārtha, he has grown up amidst extreme luxury, is honored by great charioteers (mahārathas), is accomplished, and he constantly harbors hatred for the Pāṇḍavas.
तेन युद्धमहं मन्ये प्राप्तकालं तवानघ ।
अत्र वो द्यूतमायातं विजयायेतराय वा ॥४॥
4. tena yuddhamahaṁ manye prāptakālaṁ tavānagha ,
atra vo dyūtamāyātaṁ vijayāyetarāya vā.
4. tena yuddham aham manye prāptakālam tava anagha
atra vaḥ dyūtam āyātam vijayāya itarāya vā
4. anagha! aham manye tena yuddham tava prāptakālam
atra vaḥ dyūtam vijayāya vā itarāya āyātam
4. O sinless one (anagha), I consider a battle with him to be timely for you. This is a gamble (dyūta) for you, leading either to victory or to the other outcome.
अत्र क्रोधविषं पार्थ विमुञ्च चिरसंभृतम् ।
एष मूलमनर्थानां पाण्डवानां महारथः ॥५॥
5. atra krodhaviṣaṁ pārtha vimuñca cirasaṁbhṛtam ,
eṣa mūlamanarthānāṁ pāṇḍavānāṁ mahārathaḥ.
5. atra krodhaviṣam pārtha vimuñca cirasaṃbhṛtam
eṣaḥ mūlam anarthānām pāṇḍavānām mahārathaḥ
5. pārtha atra cirasaṃbhṛtam krodhaviṣam vimuñca
eṣaḥ mahārathaḥ pāṇḍavānām anarthānām mūlam
5. O Pārtha, here, abandon the poison of anger that you have cherished for a long time. This great warrior (Duryodhana) is the root of the Pāṇḍavas' misfortunes.
सोऽयं प्राप्तस्तवाक्षेपं पश्य साफल्यमात्मनः ।
कथं हि राजा राज्यार्थी त्वया गच्छेत संयुगम् ॥६॥
6. so'yaṁ prāptastavākṣepaṁ paśya sāphalyamātmanaḥ ,
kathaṁ hi rājā rājyārthī tvayā gaccheta saṁyugam.
6. saḥ ayam prāptaḥ tava ākṣepam paśya sāphalyam ātmanaḥ
katham hi rājā rājyārthī tvayā gacceta saṃyugam
6. saḥ ayam tava ākṣepam prāptaḥ ātmanaḥ sāphalyam
paśya hi katham rājyārthī rājā tvayā saṃyugam gacceta
6. See, this one has received your challenge; behold the fruitfulness of your own self (ātman)! Indeed, how would a king, desirous of a kingdom, engage in battle with you?
दिष्ट्या त्विदानीं संप्राप्त एष ते बाणगोचरम् ।
स यथा जीवितं जह्यात्तथा कुरु धनंजय ॥७॥
7. diṣṭyā tvidānīṁ saṁprāpta eṣa te bāṇagocaram ,
sa yathā jīvitaṁ jahyāttathā kuru dhanaṁjaya.
7. diṣṭyā tu idānīm saṃprāptaḥ eṣaḥ te bāṇagocaram
saḥ yathā jīvitam jahyāt tathā kuru dhanaṃjaya
7. diṣṭyā tu idānīm eṣaḥ te bāṇagocaram saṃprāptaḥ
dhanaṃjaya saḥ yathā jīvitam jahyāt tathā kuru
7. Fortunately, this one has now come within the range of your arrows. Therefore, act in such a way, O Dhanaṃjaya, that he may give up his life.
ऐश्वर्यमदसंमूढो नैष दुःखमुपेयिवान् ।
न च ते संयुगे वीर्यं जानाति पुरुषर्षभ ॥८॥
8. aiśvaryamadasaṁmūḍho naiṣa duḥkhamupeyivān ,
na ca te saṁyuge vīryaṁ jānāti puruṣarṣabha.
8. aiśvaryamadasaṃmūḍhaḥ na eṣaḥ duḥkham upeyivān
na ca te संयुगे वीर्यम् जानाति पुरुषर्षभ
8. aiśvaryamadasaṃmūḍhaḥ eṣaḥ duḥkham na upeyivān
puruṣarṣabha ca te vīryam saṃyuge na jānāti
8. Deluded by the intoxication of power, this one has not experienced suffering. Nor does he know your valor (vīrya) in battle, O best among men (puruṣarṣabha).
त्वां हि लोकास्त्रयः पार्थ ससुरासुरमानुषाः ।
नोत्सहन्ते रणे जेतुं किमुतैकः सुयोधनः ॥९॥
9. tvāṁ hi lokāstrayaḥ pārtha sasurāsuramānuṣāḥ ,
notsahante raṇe jetuṁ kimutaikaḥ suyodhanaḥ.
9. tvām hi lokāḥ trayaḥ pārtha sa-sura-asura-mānuṣāḥ
na utsahante raṇe jetum kim uta ekaḥ suyodhanaḥ
9. pārtha hi sa-sura-asura-mānuṣāḥ trayaḥ lokāḥ tvām
raṇe jetum na utsahante ekaḥ suyodhanaḥ kim uta
9. O son of Pṛthā, indeed, the three worlds - including gods, asuras, and humans - are not able to conquer you in battle; how much less then can Suyodhana do so alone?
स दिष्ट्या समनुप्राप्तस्तव पार्थ रथान्तिकम् ।
जह्येनं वै महाबाहो यथा वृत्रं पुरंदरः ॥१०॥
10. sa diṣṭyā samanuprāptastava pārtha rathāntikam ,
jahyenaṁ vai mahābāho yathā vṛtraṁ puraṁdaraḥ.
10. saḥ diṣṭyā samanuprāptaḥ tava pārtha rathāntikam
jahi enam vai mahābāho yathā vṛtram purandaraḥ
10. pārtha mahābāho saḥ diṣṭyā tava rathāntikam
samanuprāptaḥ vai enam jahi yathā purandaraḥ vṛtram
10. O son of Pṛthā, O mighty-armed one, he has fortunately arrived near your chariot. Indeed, kill him just as Purandara (Indra) killed Vṛtra.
एष ह्यनर्थे सततं पराक्रान्तस्तवानघ ।
निकृत्या धर्मराजं च द्यूते वञ्चितवानयम् ॥११॥
11. eṣa hyanarthe satataṁ parākrāntastavānagha ,
nikṛtyā dharmarājaṁ ca dyūte vañcitavānayam.
11. eṣaḥ hi anarthe satatam parākrāntaḥ tava anagha
nikṛtyā dharmarājam ca dyūte vañcitavān ayam
11. anagha eṣaḥ hi tava anarthe satatam parākrāntaḥ
ayam ca nikṛtyā dyūte dharmarājam vañcitavān
11. O sinless one, this one is indeed constantly active in causing harm to you. And by deceit, he (this same one) cheated Dharmarāja (Yudhiṣṭhira), the king who embodies natural law (dharma), in gambling.
बहूनि सुनृशंसानि कृतान्येतेन मानद ।
युष्मासु पापमतिना अपापेष्वेव नित्यदा ॥१२॥
12. bahūni sunṛśaṁsāni kṛtānyetena mānada ,
yuṣmāsu pāpamatinā apāpeṣveva nityadā.
12. bahūni sunṛśaṁsāni kṛtāni etena mānada
yuṣmāsu pāpamatina apāpeṣu eva nityadā
12. mānada etena pāpamatina nityadā apāpeṣu
yuṣmāsu bahūni sunṛśaṁsāni kṛtāni eva
12. O giver of honor, this evil-minded one has always committed many extremely cruel deeds against you, who are indeed ever sinless.
तमनार्यं सदा क्षुद्रं पुरुषं कामचारिणम् ।
आर्यां युद्धे मतिं कृत्वा जहि पार्थाविचारयन् ॥१३॥
13. tamanāryaṁ sadā kṣudraṁ puruṣaṁ kāmacāriṇam ,
āryāṁ yuddhe matiṁ kṛtvā jahi pārthāvicārayan.
13. tam anāryam sadā kṣudram puruṣam kāmacāriṇam
āryām yuddhe matim kṛtvā jahi pārtha avicārayan
13. pārtha,
yuddhe āryām matim kṛtvā,
tam anāryam sadā kṣudram kāmacāriṇam puruṣam avicārayan jahi
13. O Pārtha, making a noble resolution for battle, kill that ignoble, perpetually despicable person (puruṣa) who acts as he pleases, without any hesitation.
निकृत्या राज्यहरणं वनवासं च पाण्डव ।
परिक्लेशं च कृष्णाया हृदि कृत्वा पराक्रम ॥१४॥
14. nikṛtyā rājyaharaṇaṁ vanavāsaṁ ca pāṇḍava ,
parikleśaṁ ca kṛṣṇāyā hṛdi kṛtvā parākrama.
14. nikṛtyā rājyaharaṇam vanavāsam ca pāṇḍava
parikleśam ca kṛṣṇāyāḥ hṛdi kṛtvā parākrama
14. pāṇḍava,
nikṛtyā rājyaharaṇam ca vanavāsam ca kṛṣṇāyāḥ parikleśam hṛdi kṛtvā,
parākrama
14. O Pāṇḍava, bearing in your heart the seizure of the kingdom through deceit, the exile in the forest, and the great suffering of Kṛṣṇā (Draupadī), exert your valor!
दिष्ट्यैष तव बाणानां गोचरे परिवर्तते ।
प्रतिघाताय कार्यस्य दिष्ट्या च यततेऽग्रतः ॥१५॥
15. diṣṭyaiṣa tava bāṇānāṁ gocare parivartate ,
pratighātāya kāryasya diṣṭyā ca yatate'grataḥ.
15. diṣṭyā eṣa tava bāṇānām gocare parivartate
pratighātāya kāryasya diṣṭyā ca yatate agrataḥ
15. diṣṭyā eṣa tava bāṇānām gocare parivartate; ca
diṣṭyā kāryasya pratighātāya agrataḥ yatate
15. Fortunately, this enemy is now within the range of your arrows. And fortunately, he himself endeavors to move forward for the purpose of retaliating against our cause.
दिष्ट्या जानाति संग्रामे योद्धव्यं हि त्वया सह ।
दिष्ट्या च सफलाः पार्थ सर्वे कामा हि कामिताः ॥१६॥
16. diṣṭyā jānāti saṁgrāme yoddhavyaṁ hi tvayā saha ,
diṣṭyā ca saphalāḥ pārtha sarve kāmā hi kāmitāḥ.
16. diṣṭyā jānāti saṅgrāme yoddhavyam hi tvayā saha
diṣṭyā ca saphalāḥ pārtha sarve kāmāḥ hi kāmitāḥ
16. diṣṭyā saṅgrāme hi tvayā saha yoddhavyam iti (he) jānāti; ca,
pārtha,
diṣṭyā hi sarve kāmitāḥ kāmāḥ saphalāḥ (santi)
16. Fortunately, he realizes that he must indeed fight alongside you in battle. And fortunately, O Pārtha, all your cherished desires have indeed been fulfilled.
तस्माज्जहि रणे पार्थ धार्तराष्ट्रं कुलाधमम् ।
यथेन्द्रेण हतः पूर्वं जम्भो देवासुरे मृधे ॥१७॥
17. tasmājjahi raṇe pārtha dhārtarāṣṭraṁ kulādhamam ,
yathendreṇa hataḥ pūrvaṁ jambho devāsure mṛdhe.
17. tasmāt jahi raṇe pārtha dhārtarāṣṭram kulādhamam
yathā indreṇa hataḥ pūrvam jambhaḥ devāsure mṛdhe
17. pārtha tasmāt raṇe kulādhamam dhārtarāṣṭram jahi
yathā pūrvam indreṇa devāsure mṛdhe jambhaḥ hataḥ
17. Therefore, O Partha, slay in battle that son of Dhritarashtra, the disgrace of his family, just as Jambha was previously slain by Indra in the war between the gods and asuras.
अस्मिन्हते त्वया सैन्यमनाथं भिद्यतामिदम् ।
वैरस्यास्यास्त्ववभृथो मूलं छिन्धि दुरात्मनाम् ॥१८॥
18. asminhate tvayā sainyamanāthaṁ bhidyatāmidam ,
vairasyāsyāstvavabhṛtho mūlaṁ chindhi durātmanām.
18. asmin hate tvayā sainyam anātham bhidyatām idam
vairasya asya astu avabhṛthaḥ mūlam chindhi durātmanām
18. tvayā asmin hate idam anātham sainyam bhidyatām asya
vairasya avabhṛthaḥ astu durātmanām mūlam chindhi
18. Once he is slain by you, let this army become leaderless and be shattered. Let this act be the ritual conclusion (avabhṛtha) of this enmity, and sever the root of these wicked individuals (durātman).
संजय उवाच ।
तं तथेत्यब्रवीत्पार्थः कृत्यरूपमिदं मम ।
सर्वमन्यदनादृत्य गच्छ यत्र सुयोधनः ॥१९॥
19. saṁjaya uvāca ,
taṁ tathetyabravītpārthaḥ kṛtyarūpamidaṁ mama ,
sarvamanyadanādṛtya gaccha yatra suyodhanaḥ.
19. saṃjaya uvāca tam tathā iti abravīt pārthaḥ kṛtyarūpam
idam mama sarvam anyat anādṛtya gaccha yatra suyodhanaḥ
19. saṃjaya uvāca pārthaḥ tam abravīt tathā iti idam mama
kṛtyarūpam sarvam anyat anādṛtya gaccha yatra suyodhanaḥ
19. Sanjaya said: Partha replied to him, "So be it. This is indeed my duty (kṛtyarūpam). Disregarding everything else, proceed to where Suyodhana is."
येनैतद्दीर्घकालं नो भुक्तं राज्यमकण्टकम् ।
अप्यस्य युधि विक्रम्य छिन्द्यां मूर्धानमाहवे ॥२०॥
20. yenaitaddīrghakālaṁ no bhuktaṁ rājyamakaṇṭakam ,
apyasya yudhi vikramya chindyāṁ mūrdhānamāhave.
20. yena etat dīrghakālam naḥ bhuktam rājyam akaṇṭakam
api asya yudhi vikramya chindyām mūrdhānam āhave
20. yena naḥ etat akaṇṭakam rājyam dīrghakālam bhuktam
api asya mūrdhānam yudhi āhave vikramya chindyām
20. By whom this undisputed kingdom (rājyam) was enjoyed by us for a long time. Even his head I shall sever in battle, having displayed valor in the fight.
अपि तस्या अनर्हायाः परिक्लेशस्य माधव ।
कृष्णायाः शक्नुयां गन्तुं पदं केशप्रधर्षणे ॥२१॥
21. api tasyā anarhāyāḥ parikleśasya mādhava ,
kṛṣṇāyāḥ śaknuyāṁ gantuṁ padaṁ keśapradharṣaṇe.
21. api tasyāḥ anarhāyāḥ parikleśasya mādhava
kṛṣṇāyāḥ śaknuyām gantum padam keśapradharṣaṇe
21. mādhava api kṛṣṇāyāḥ anarhāyāḥ tasyāḥ
keśapradharṣaṇe parikleśasya padam gantum śaknuyām
21. O Mādhava, how could I possibly attain the state of immense suffering (parikleśa) that was inflicted upon that undeserving Draupadī (Kṛṣṇā) during the dishonor of her hair?
इत्येवं वादिनौ हृष्टौ कृष्णौ श्वेतान्हयोत्तमान् ।
प्रेषयामासतुः संख्ये प्रेप्सन्तौ तं नराधिपम् ॥२२॥
22. ityevaṁ vādinau hṛṣṭau kṛṣṇau śvetānhayottamān ,
preṣayāmāsatuḥ saṁkhye prepsantau taṁ narādhipam.
22. iti evam vādinau hṛṣṭau kṛṣṇau śvetān haya-uttamān
preṣayāmāsatuḥ saṃkhye prepsantau tam narādhipam
22. iti evam vādinau hṛṣṭau kṛṣṇau,
saṃkhye tam narādhipam prepsantau,
śvetān haya-uttamān preṣayāmāsatuḥ
22. Having spoken thus, the two joyful Kṛṣṇas (Kṛṣṇa and Arjuna), wishing to pursue that king (narādhipa) in battle (saṃkhya), sent forth their excellent white horses.
तयोः समीपं संप्राप्य पुत्रस्ते भरतर्षभ ।
न चकार भयं प्राप्ते भये महति मारिष ॥२३॥
23. tayoḥ samīpaṁ saṁprāpya putraste bharatarṣabha ,
na cakāra bhayaṁ prāpte bhaye mahati māriṣa.
23. tayoḥ samīpam samprāpya putraḥ te bharatarṣabha
na cakāra bhayam prāpte bhaye mahati māriṣa
23. bharatarṣabha māriṣa,
te putraḥ tayoḥ samīpam samprāpya,
mahati bhaye prāpte (api),
bhayam na cakāra
23. O best of the Bhāratas (bharatarṣabha), O respected one (māriṣa), having approached the two of them, your son felt no fear (bhaya) even when a great danger (bhaya) had arrived.
तदस्य क्षत्रियास्तत्र सर्व एवाभ्यपूजयन् ।
यदर्जुनहृषीकेशौ प्रत्युद्यातोऽविचारयन् ॥२४॥
24. tadasya kṣatriyāstatra sarva evābhyapūjayan ,
yadarjunahṛṣīkeśau pratyudyāto'vicārayan.
24. tat asya kṣatriyāḥ tatra sarve eva abhyapūjayan
yat arjuna-hṛṣīkeśau prati-udyātaḥ avicārayan
24. tatra sarve kṣatriyāḥ asya tat abhyapūjayan,
yat (saḥ) arjuna-hṛṣīkeśau prati-udyātaḥ avicārayan (āsan)
24. Therefore, all the warriors (kṣatriya) there indeed honored him for that (act), because he had advanced to meet Arjuna and Hṛṣīkeśa (Kṛṣṇa) without hesitation.
ततः सर्वस्य सैन्यस्य तावकस्य विशां पते ।
महान्नादो ह्यभूत्तत्र दृष्ट्वा राजानमाहवे ॥२५॥
25. tataḥ sarvasya sainyasya tāvakasya viśāṁ pate ,
mahānnādo hyabhūttatra dṛṣṭvā rājānamāhave.
25. tataḥ sarvasya sainyasya tāvakasya viśām pate
mahān nādaḥ hi abhūt tatra dṛṣṭvā rājānam āhave
25. tataḥ viśām pate tāvakasya sarvasya sainyasya
rājānam āhave dṛṣṭvā hi tatra mahān nādaḥ abhūt
25. Then, O ruler of the people, a great roar arose from your entire army there, when they saw the king in battle.
तस्मिञ्जनसमुन्नादे प्रवृत्ते भैरवे सति ।
कदर्थीकृत्य ते पुत्रः प्रत्यमित्रमवारयत् ॥२६॥
26. tasmiñjanasamunnāde pravṛtte bhairave sati ,
kadarthīkṛtya te putraḥ pratyamitramavārayat.
26. tasmin jana-samunnāde pravṛtte bhairave sati
kadarthīkṛtya te putraḥ prati-amitram avārayat
26. tasmin bhairave jana-samunnāde pravṛtte sati
te putraḥ prati-amitram kadarthīkṛtya avārayat
26. While that terrible roar of the people was resounding, your son, disregarding his adversary, held him back.
आवारितस्तु कौन्तेयस्तव पुत्रेण धन्विना ।
संरम्भमगमद्भूयः स च तस्मिन्परंतपः ॥२७॥
27. āvāritastu kaunteyastava putreṇa dhanvinā ,
saṁrambhamagamadbhūyaḥ sa ca tasminparaṁtapaḥ.
27. āvāritaḥ tu kaunteyaḥ tava putreṇa dhanvinā
saṃrambham agamat bhūyaḥ saḥ ca tasmin parantapaḥ
27. tu tava dhanvinā putreṇa āvāritaḥ kaunteyaḥ
bhūyaḥ saṃrambham agamat ca saḥ parantapaḥ tasmin
27. But the son of Kunti (Arjuna), having been checked by your bowman son, became enraged again. And that tormentor of enemies (Arjuna) also displayed fury towards him (Duryodhana).
तौ दृष्ट्वा प्रतिसंरब्धौ दुर्योधनधनंजयौ ।
अभ्यवैक्षन्त राजानो भीमरूपाः समन्ततः ॥२८॥
28. tau dṛṣṭvā pratisaṁrabdhau duryodhanadhanaṁjayau ,
abhyavaikṣanta rājāno bhīmarūpāḥ samantataḥ.
28. tau dṛṣṭvā prati-saṃrabdhau duryodhana-dhanañjayau
abhi-ava-īkṣanta rājānaḥ bhīma-rūpāḥ samantataḥ
28. rājānaḥ bhīma-rūpāḥ samantataḥ duryodhana-dhanañjayau
tau prati-saṃrabdhau dṛṣṭvā abhi-ava-īkṣanta
28. Seeing those two, Duryodhana and Dhanañjaya (Arjuna), mutually enraged, kings of terrifying appearance watched from all sides.
दृष्ट्वा तु पार्थं संरब्धं वासुदेवं च मारिष ।
प्रहसन्निव पुत्रस्ते योद्धुकामः समाह्वयत् ॥२९॥
29. dṛṣṭvā tu pārthaṁ saṁrabdhaṁ vāsudevaṁ ca māriṣa ,
prahasanniva putraste yoddhukāmaḥ samāhvayat.

prahasan iva putraḥ te yoddhukāmaḥ samāhvayat

29. O respected one, when your son (Duryodhana) saw Arjuna (Pārtha) enraged and Vāsudeva (Krishna), he challenged them as if laughing, eager to fight.
ततः प्रहृष्टो दाशार्हः पाण्डवश्च धनंजयः ।
व्याक्रोशेतां महानादं दध्मतुश्चाम्बुजोत्तमौ ॥३०॥
30. tataḥ prahṛṣṭo dāśārhaḥ pāṇḍavaśca dhanaṁjayaḥ ,

30. Then, the greatly delighted Dāśārha (Krishna) and Pāṇḍava Dhanaṃjaya (Arjuna) both roared with a mighty sound and blew their excellent conch shells.

निराशाः समपद्यन्त पुत्रस्य तव जीविते ॥३१॥

31. Observing those two (Krishna and Arjuna) with such delighted appearances, all the Kauravas became utterly despondent about your son's (Duryodhana's) life.

अमन्यन्त च पुत्रं ते वैश्वानरमुखे हुतम् ॥३२॥
32. śokamīyuḥ paraṁ caiva kuravaḥ sarva eva te ,
amanyanta ca putraṁ te vaiśvānaramukhe hutam.

32. And all those Kurus indeed experienced extreme sorrow. They considered your son as having been offered into the mouth of the sacrificial fire (Vaiśvānara).
तथा तु दृष्ट्वा योधास्ते प्रहृष्टौ कृष्णपाण्डवौ ।
हतो राजा हतो राजेत्यूचुरेवं भयार्दिताः ॥३३॥
33. tathā tu dṛṣṭvā yodhāste prahṛṣṭau kṛṣṇapāṇḍavau ,
hato rājā hato rājetyūcurevaṁ bhayārditāḥ.

33. Then, seeing Kṛṣṇa and Arjuna greatly rejoicing, those warriors, tormented by fear, exclaimed, "The king is dead! The king is dead!"
जनस्य संनिनादं तु श्रुत्वा दुर्योधनोऽब्रवीत् ।
व्येतु वो भीरहं कृष्णौ प्रेषयिष्यामि मृत्यवे ॥३४॥
34. janasya saṁninādaṁ tu śrutvā duryodhano'bravīt ,
vyetu vo bhīrahaṁ kṛṣṇau preṣayiṣyāmi mṛtyave.

"
34. But Duryodhana, having heard the clamor of the people, declared, "Let your fear depart! I will send Kṛṣṇa and Arjuna to their death."
इत्युक्त्वा सैनिकान्सर्वाञ्जयापेक्षी नराधिपः ।
पार्थमाभाष्य संरम्भादिदं वचनमब्रवीत् ॥३५॥
35. ityuktvā sainikānsarvāñjayāpekṣī narādhipaḥ ,
pārthamābhāṣya saṁrambhādidaṁ vacanamabravīt.
35. iti uktvā sainikān sarvān jayāpekṣī narādhipaḥ
pārtham ābhāṣya saṃrambhāt idam vacanam abravīt

35. Having spoken thus to all the soldiers, the king, desiring victory, then addressed Pārtha (Arjuna) with vehemence, saying these words.
पार्थ यच्छिक्षितं तेऽस्त्रं दिव्यं मानुषमेव च ।
तद्दर्शय मयि क्षिप्रं यदि जातोऽसि पाण्डुना ॥३६॥
36. pārtha yacchikṣitaṁ te'straṁ divyaṁ mānuṣameva ca ,
taddarśaya mayi kṣipraṁ yadi jāto'si pāṇḍunā.
36. pārtha yat śikṣitam te astram divyam mānuṣam eva
ca tat darśaya mayi kṣipram yadi jātaḥ asi pāṇḍunā
36. pārtha,
yat divyam mānuṣam eva ca astram te śikṣitam,
tat mayi kṣipram darśaya,
yadi pāṇḍunā jātaḥ asi।
36. “O Pārtha, quickly display to me that divine and human weapon which you have mastered, if you are truly born of Pāṇḍu.”
यद्बलं तव वीर्यं च केशवस्य तथैव च ।
तत्कुरुष्व मयि क्षिप्रं पश्यामस्तव पौरुषम् ॥३७॥
37. yadbalaṁ tava vīryaṁ ca keśavasya tathaiva ca ,
tatkuruṣva mayi kṣipraṁ paśyāmastava pauruṣam.

tat kuruṣva mayi kṣipram paśyāmas tava pauruṣam

37. Whatever strength and valor you and Keśava possess, quickly manifest that through me, so that we may witness your prowess.
अस्मत्परोक्षं कर्माणि प्रवदन्ति कृतानि ते ।
स्वामिसत्कारयुक्तानि यानि तानीह दर्शय ॥३८॥
38. asmatparokṣaṁ karmāṇi pravadanti kṛtāni te ,
svāmisatkārayuktāni yāni tānīha darśaya.
38. asmat parokṣam karmāṇi pravadanti kṛtāni te
svāmi satkāra yuktāni yāni tāni iha darśaya
38. te kṛtāni yāni karmāṇi asmat parokṣam (janam prati) pravadanti,
(tāni ca) svāmisatkārayuktāni tāni iha darśaya
38. They speak of actions you performed in our absence. Now, demonstrate here those actions which were endowed with respect for your master.
