दुर्योधन उवाच ।
यन्मया पाण्डवानां तु दृष्टं तच्छृणु भारत ।
आहृतं भूमिपालैर्हि वसु मुख्यं ततस्ततः ॥१॥

1. duryodhana uvāca ,

Duryodhana said: "O Bhārata, listen to what I saw concerning the Pāṇḍavas. Indeed, considerable wealth was brought from various places by the kings."
न विन्दे दृढमात्मानं दृष्ट्वाहं तदरेर्धनम् ।
फलतो भूमितो वापि प्रतिपद्यस्व भारत ॥२॥

2. na vinde dṛḍhamātmānaṁ dṛṣṭvāhaṁ tadarerdhanam ,
phalato bhūmito vāpi pratipadyasva bhārata.

After seeing that wealth of my enemy, I cannot find my resolute self (ātman). O Bhārata, you should certainly acquire wealth, whether from produce or from land.
ऐडांश्चैलान्वार्षदंशाञ्जातरूपपरिष्कृतान् ।
प्रावाराजिनमुख्यांश्च काम्बोजः प्रददौ वसु ॥३॥

The Kamboja king presented wealth, consisting of woolen blankets from the wild ram, vārṣadaṃśa sheepskins adorned with gold, and other excellent blankets and hides.
अश्वांस्तित्तिरिकल्माषांस्त्रिशतं शुकनासिकान् ।
उष्ट्रवामीस्त्रिशतं च पुष्टाः पीलुशमीङ्गुदैः ॥४॥

He also presented three hundred horses, speckled like partridges and with parrot-like noses, as well as three hundred stout female camels, well-nourished with pilu, śamī, and iṅguda fodder.
गोवासना ब्राह्मणाश्च दासमीयाश्च सर्वशः ।
प्रीत्यर्थं ते महाभागा धर्मराज्ञो महात्मनः ।
त्रिखर्वं बलिमादाय द्वारि तिष्ठन्ति वारिताः ॥५॥
प्रीत्यर्थं ते महाभागा धर्मराज्ञो महात्मनः ।

Brahmins from Govāsana and all the Dāsamīyas, those highly esteemed individuals, stand restrained at the gate, having brought three kharvas of tribute to please the great-souled king of natural law (dharma).
कमण्डलूनुपादाय जातरूपमयाञ्शुभान् ।
एवं बलिं प्रदायाथ प्रवेशं लेभिरे ततः ॥६॥

6. kamaṇḍalūnupādāya jātarūpamayāñśubhān ,

Having taken up their beautiful water-pots made of gold, and then having offered their tribute in this manner, they obtained entry from there.
शतं दासीसहस्राणां कार्पासिकनिवासिनाम् ।
श्यामास्तन्व्यो दीर्घकेश्यो हेमाभरणभूषिताः ।
शूद्रा विप्रोत्तमार्हाणि राङ्कवान्यजिनानि च ॥७॥

A hundred thousand dark-complexioned, slender female servants with long hair, wearing cotton garments and adorned with gold ornaments (were presented). Additionally, female Shudras were presented along with raṅku deer skins and other valuable items suitable for the most excellent Brahmins.
बलिं च कृत्स्नमादाय भरुकच्छनिवासिनः ।
उपनिन्युर्महाराज हयान्गान्धारदेशजान् ॥८॥

8. baliṁ ca kṛtsnamādāya bharukacchanivāsinaḥ ,

And having collected all the tribute, O great king, the residents of Bharukaccha presented horses originating from the region of Gandhara.
इन्द्रकृष्टैर्वर्तयन्ति धान्यैर्नदीमुखैश्च ये ।
समुद्रनिष्कुटे जाताः परिसिन्धु च मानवाः ॥९॥

9. indrakṛṣṭairvartayanti dhānyairnadīmukhaiśca ye ,
samudraniṣkuṭe jātāḥ parisindhu ca mānavāḥ.

And those people who subsist on rain-fed grains and grains from river mouths, who are born in the coastal groves and along the Sindhu river...
ते वैरामाः पारदाश्च वङ्गाश्च कितवैः सह ।
विविधं बलिमादाय रत्नानि विविधानि च ॥१०॥

10. te vairāmāḥ pāradāśca vaṅgāśca kitavaiḥ saha ,
vividhaṁ balimādāya ratnāni vividhāni ca.

Those Vairamas, Paradas, and Vangas, along with the Kitavas, collected various tributes and diverse jewels (to present).
अजाविकं गोहिरण्यं खरोष्ट्रं फलजं मधु ।
कम्बलान्विविधांश्चैव द्वारि तिष्ठन्ति वारिताः ॥११॥

11. ajāvikaṁ gohiraṇyaṁ kharoṣṭraṁ phalajaṁ madhu ,

Goats and sheep, cows, gold, donkeys, camels, fruit-born honey, and various kinds of blankets stand detained at the gate.
प्राग्ज्योतिषाधिपः शूरो म्लेच्छानामधिपो बली ।
यवनैः सहितो राजा भगदत्तो महारथः ॥१२॥

12. prāgjyotiṣādhipaḥ śūro mlecchānāmadhipo balī ,
yavanaiḥ sahito rājā bhagadatto mahārathaḥ.

The brave King Bhagadatta, ruler of Pragjyotisha, a powerful chief of the Mlecchas (foreigners) and a great charioteer, was accompanied by the Yavanas (foreigners).
आजानेयान्हयाञ्शीघ्रानादायानिलरंहसः ।
बलिं च कृत्स्नमादाय द्वारि तिष्ठति वारितः ॥१३॥

Having brought swift, noble-bred horses that possessed the speed of wind, and having taken the complete tribute, he stood prevented at the gate.
अश्मसारमयं भाण्डं शुद्धदन्तत्सरूनसीन् ।
प्राग्ज्योतिषोऽथ तद्दत्त्वा भगदत्तोऽव्रजत्तदा ॥१४॥

14. aśmasāramayaṁ bhāṇḍaṁ śuddhadantatsarūnasīn ,

Then, Bhagadatta, the ruler of Pragjyotisha, having presented steel articles and swords with pure ivory handles, departed at that time.
द्व्यक्षांस्त्र्यक्षाँल्ललाटाक्षान्नानादिग्भ्यः समागतान् ।
औष्णीषाननिवासांश्च बाहुकान्पुरुषादकान् ॥१५॥

15. dvyakṣāṁstryakṣāँllalāṭākṣānnānādigbhyaḥ samāgatān ,

I saw two-eyed, three-eyed, and forehead-eyed beings who had arrived from various directions; some wore turbans, some were unclothed, some had long arms, and some were man-eaters.
एकपादांश्च तत्राहमपश्यं द्वारि वारितान् ।
बल्यर्थं ददतस्तस्मै हिरण्यं रजतं बहु ॥१६॥
बल्यर्थं ददतस्तस्मै हिरण्यं रजतं बहु ॥१६॥
16. ekapādāṁśca tatrāhamapaśyaṁ dvāri vāritān ,
balyarthaṁ dadatastasmai hiraṇyaṁ rajataṁ bahu.

There, at the gate, I saw one-footed beings who were being stopped, offering gold and much silver to him for the sake of an offering (bali).
इन्द्रगोपकवर्णाभाञ्शुकवर्णान्मनोजवान् ।
तथैवेन्द्रायुधनिभान्संध्याभ्रसदृशानपि ॥१७॥

17. indragopakavarṇābhāñśukavarṇānmanojavān ,
tathaivendrāyudhanibhānsaṁdhyābhrasadṛśānapi.

They had the shining color of fireflies (indragopaka), the color of parrots, and were swift as thought. Likewise, they resembled rainbows (indrāyudha) and were like twilight clouds, too.
अनेकवर्णानारण्यान्गृहीत्वाश्वान्मनोजवान् ।
जातरूपमनर्घ्यं च ददुस्तस्यैकपादकाः ॥१८॥

18. anekavarṇānāraṇyāngṛhītvāśvānmanojavān ,
jātarūpamanarghyaṁ ca dadustasyaikapādakāḥ.

anekavarṇān āraṇyān gṛhītvā aśvān manojavān |
jātarūpam anarghyam ca daduḥ tasya ekapādakāḥ

Having taken wild horses of many colors and swift as thought, as well as priceless gold (jātarūpa), the one-footed ones offered them to him.
चीनान्हूणाञ्शकानोड्रान्पर्वतान्तरवासिनः ।
वार्ष्णेयान्हारहूणांश्च कृष्णान्हैमवतांस्तथा ॥१९॥
वार्ष्णेयान्हारहूणांश्च कृष्णान्हैमवतांस्तथा ॥१९॥
19. cīnānhūṇāñśakānoḍrānparvatāntaravāsinaḥ ,
vārṣṇeyānhārahūṇāṁśca kṛṣṇānhaimavatāṁstathā.

cīnān hūṇān śakān oḍrān parvatāntaravāsinaḥ
vārṣṇeyān hārahūṇān ca kṛṣṇān haimavatān tathā
vārṣṇeyān hārahūṇān ca kṛṣṇān haimavatān tathā

The Chinese, Huns, Shakas, Odras, mountain-dwellers, Vārṣṇeyas, Harahūṇas, Kṛṣṇas, and similarly, the Himalayan people (were among them).
न पारयाम्यभिगतान्विविधान्द्वारि वारितान् ।
बल्यर्थं ददतस्तस्य नानारूपाननेकशः ॥२०॥

20. na pārayāmyabhigatānvividhāndvāri vāritān ,

I am unable to manage the various groups who have arrived and are being held at the gate, offering him numerous tributes of many different kinds in manifold ways.
कृष्णग्रीवान्महाकायान्रासभाञ्शतपातिनः ।
आहार्षुर्दशसाहस्रान्विनीतान्दिक्षु विश्रुतान् ॥२१॥

21. kṛṣṇagrīvānmahākāyānrāsabhāñśatapātinaḥ ,

They brought ten thousand donkeys - black-necked, large-bodied, swift, well-trained, and renowned in all directions.
प्रमाणरागस्पर्शाढ्यं बाह्लीचीनसमुद्भवम् ।
और्णं च राङ्कवं चैव कीटजं पट्टजं तथा ॥२२॥

22. pramāṇarāgasparśāḍhyaṁ bāhlīcīnasamudbhavam ,
aurṇaṁ ca rāṅkavaṁ caiva kīṭajaṁ paṭṭajaṁ tathā.
aurṇaṁ ca rāṅkavaṁ caiva kīṭajaṁ paṭṭajaṁ tathā.

pramāṇarāgasparśāḍhyam bāhlīcīnasamudbhavam
aurṇam ca rāṅkavam ca eva kīṭajam paṭṭajam tathā
aurṇam ca rāṅkavam ca eva kīṭajam paṭṭajam tathā

They also brought woolen, rāṅkava (made from deer hair), kīṭaja (worm-born silk), and similarly paṭṭaja (made from silk strips) cloth, all rich in measure, color, and texture, and originating from Bāhlīka and Cīna.
कुट्टीकृतं तथैवान्यत्कमलाभं सहस्रशः ।
श्लक्ष्णं वस्त्रमकार्पासमाविकं मृदु चाजिनम् ॥२३॥

23. kuṭṭīkṛtaṁ tathaivānyatkamalābhaṁ sahasraśaḥ ,

kuṭṭīkṛtam tathā eva anyat kamalābham sahasraśaḥ

Similarly, thousands of shredded, lotus-hued items were present, along with smooth, non-cotton, woolen cloth and soft animal hides.
निशितांश्चैव दीर्घासीनृष्टिशक्तिपरश्वधान् ।
अपरान्तसमुद्भूतांस्तथैव परशूञ्शितान् ॥२४॥

Sharpened, long swords, lances, javelins, and battle-axes; and similarly, sharpened axes originating from Aparānta.
रसान्गन्धांश्च विविधान्रत्नानि च सहस्रशः ।
बलिं च कृत्स्नमादाय द्वारि तिष्ठन्ति वारिताः ॥२५॥

25. rasāngandhāṁśca vividhānratnāni ca sahasraśaḥ ,
baliṁ ca kṛtsnamādāya dvāri tiṣṭhanti vāritāḥ.
