Vaiśaṃpāyana said: 'Stand firm! Strike! Quickly, disperse!' Thus, King Jayadratha, the ruler of Sindhu, exhorted those kings.

Then, a more dreadful sound arose on the battlefield at that time, as the armies beheld Bhīma, Arjuna, Nakula, Sahadeva, and Yudhiṣṭhira.

Sorrow also arose among the Śibis, Sindhus, and Trigartas upon seeing those exceedingly strong men, who were like tigers among men, fierce like actual tigers.

Bhīma, seizing his mace – which was prominently tall, adorned with gold, and made entirely of iron – rushed towards the king of Sindhu (Jayadratha), who was driven by destiny.

Even though he was being showered by many spears, javelins, and nārāca arrows, all launched by the arms of warriors, Bhīma did not tremble.

Sahadeva, from his chariot, attacked the elephant warriors. With his iron arrows, he struck them down as if they were peacocks falling from trees.

Then, the Trigarta warrior, still carrying his bow, dismounted from his great chariot. At that moment, he killed four horses of that king with his mace.

King Yudhishthira, the son of Kunti (Kuntīnandana) and upholder of natural law (dharmarāṭ), pierced that warrior, who had approached on foot, in the chest with a crescent-shaped arrow.

As those two (Kṣemaṅkara and Mahāmukha) showered arrows like two rainy clouds, the son of Mādrī (Nakula) struck each of them with a single broad-headed arrow.

Then Suratha, the king of Trigarta, who was skilled in elephant riding, being positioned on the chariot-yoke, urged his chariot forward with an elephant against him (Nakula).
