1.
Vidura said, 'O King, you are undoubtedly someone who should be advised by your relatives for your welfare. However, advice does not take root among those who refuse to listen.'

2.
Indeed, O King, Bhishma, the best of the Kurus, the son of Shantanu, spoke that beneficial advice for your welfare, yet you do not accept it.
तथा द्रोणेन बहुधा भाषितं हितमुत्तमम् ।

3.

3.
Similarly, Drona repeatedly spoke excellent and beneficial advice. But even that, Karna, the son of Radha, does not consider beneficial for you.

4.
O King, as I reflect, I do not find anyone who is your best friend, or who might be superior in wisdom to these two lion-like men.
इमौ हि वृद्धौ वयसा प्रज्ञया च श्रुतेन च ।

5.
Indeed, these two are advanced in age, wisdom, and also in learning. Moreover, O best of kings, they are equal to you and to those sons of Pāṇḍu.

6.
O King, O Bhārata, there is no doubt that these two are not inferior in righteousness (dharma) and truthfulness, even when compared to Rāma, the son of Daśaratha, and Gaya.

Furthermore, they have never said anything harmful to you previously. Nor is any wrongdoing by them towards you discernible.

8.
O King, when you are blameless, how can these two tiger-like men, who are truly mighty and whose valor is truth, fail to counsel what is best for you?

9.
O king, these two intelligent and excellent men in this world will therefore not speak anything crooked on your behalf. This is my firm conviction, O delight of the Kurus.

10.
Furthermore, these two who understand natural law (dharma) will not speak partially for the sake of gain. Indeed, O Bhārata, they consider this to be your supreme welfare.

11.
O King, just as Duryodhana and his brothers are your sons, so also are the Pāṇḍavas your sons. There is no doubt about this, O King.

12.
If your advisors unwisely suggest anything harmful regarding them (the Pāṇḍavas), then those advisors do not foresee what is especially beneficial for you.

13.
However, O King, if there is a special bias in your heart towards them (the Pāṇḍavas), then those who reveal such an inner sentiment would certainly not bring you welfare.

14.
O King, these two great-souled and immensely brilliant individuals did not state anything clearly for this reason: this (truth about the Pāṇḍavas' invincibility) is not your firm conviction.
यच्चाप्यशक्यतां तेषामाहतुः पुरुषर्षभौ ।

15.
And what those two, the bulls among men (puruṣarṣabhau), declared about their (the Pāṇḍavas') invincibility, that is indeed true, O tiger among men (puruṣavyāghra). May that bring you well-being.

16.
O King, how indeed can the glorious Pāṇḍava, the ambidextrous one (savyasācī) and tormentor of foes (paraṃtapaḥ), be conquered in battle, even by Indra (Maghavān)?

17.
How indeed could Bhīmasena, the mighty-armed, great one (mahān), possessing the strength of ten thousand elephants, be conquered in battle (yudhi), even by the gods?

18.
Similarly, how can the two skillful twins (Yamau), who are like the sons of Yama (yamasutau), be withstood in battle (raṇe) by anyone wishing to remain alive?

19.
How can he be defeated in battle, in whom steadfastness, compassion, forgiveness, truth, and valor are constant - he who is the best of the Pandavas?

What indeed remains unconquered by those whose supporter is Balarāma, whose minister is Janārdana (Krishna), and on whose side is Sātyaki?

21.
Whose father-in-law is Drupada, and whose brothers-in-law are the Pārṣatas - valiant brothers headed by Dhṛṣṭadyumna, the sons of Drupada?

O Bhārata, having fully understood their invincibility and their rightful inheritance (dāyādya) by natural law (dharma), you should behave justly towards them.

King Drupada, a great monarch, was formerly our adversary. Winning him over, O King, would strengthen our own faction.

The Dāśārhas are both mighty and numerous, O lord of the people. Where Kṛṣṇa is, there they will be; and where Kṛṣṇa is, there is victory.

And what task, O King, can be accomplished solely through conciliation, who, being cursed by fate, would choose to achieve it through conflict?

And hearing that the Pāṇḍavas are alive, the urban and rural populace are eager to see them. Therefore, O King, do what is pleasing to them.

28.
Duryodhana, Karṇa, and Śakuni, son of Subala, are associated with unrighteousness (adharma), possess poor judgment, and are immature. Do not heed their words.
