Dhritarashtra said: "O Sanjaya, after Shaineya (Satyaki) and Arjuna had completely crushed that great army and were proceeding, what did those shameless sons of mine do?"

And how did these sons of mine, desiring to die, maintain their resolve (dhṛti) in battle, after witnessing the deeds of Shaineya (Satyaki), which were akin to those of Savyasacin (Arjuna)?

O father, I hear this extremely astonishing thing from you: the battle of one (warrior) against many enemies, indeed, great chariot-warriors (mahārathas).

I consider this the opposite of what should be expected for my unfortunate sons, that they were slain in battle by the great-souled (mahātman) Sātvata (Sātyaki).

Weaponless and armorless, the wounded are falling here and there. The charioteers are unable to control the horses in the fierce battle.

49.
O King, as the intelligent Drona, son of Bharadvaja, was speaking thus, then the charioteer replied to Drona, the best among weapon-bearers.
आयुष्मन्द्रवते सैन्यं कौरवेयं समन्ततः ।

50.
O long-lived one, the Kaurava army is fleeing everywhere. Behold the warriors scattered and running here and there in battle.

51.
Indeed, these brave Pañcālas, united with the Pāṇḍavas, are rushing towards you from all sides, intent on killing you alone.

52.
O destroyer of enemies (ariṃdama), focus on the immediate task here. Satyaki has gone far away, whether in staying (where he is) or in moving (further).

53.
O respected one (māriṣa), just as Bhāradvāja (Droṇa) was speaking thus, Śaineya (Satyaki) appeared, striking down many types of chariots.

54.
Your soldiers, being struck down in battle by Yuyudhāna (Satyaki), abandoned Yuyudhāna's chariot and fled towards Droṇa's army.

55.
All those chariots by which Duḥśāsana had previously returned, being frightened, now rushed towards Droṇa's chariot.
