संजय उवाच ।
ततः पुनरमेयात्मा केशवोऽर्जुनमब्रवीत् ।
कृतसंकल्पमायस्तं वधे कर्णस्य सर्वशः ॥१॥
1. saṁjaya uvāca ,
tataḥ punarameyātmā keśavo'rjunamabravīt ,
kṛtasaṁkalpamāyastaṁ vadhe karṇasya sarvaśaḥ.

tataḥ punaḥ ameyātmā keśavaḥ karṇasya vadhe sarvaśaḥ kṛtasaṅkalpam āyastam arjunam abravīt.
1. Sañjaya said: Then, Keśava, whose nature (ātman) is immeasurable, spoke again to Arjuna, who was resolute and exhausted in every way concerning Karṇa's death.
अद्य सप्तदशाहानि वर्तमानस्य भारत ।
विनाशस्यातिघोरस्य नरवारणवाजिनाम् ॥२॥
2. adya saptadaśāhāni vartamānasya bhārata ,
vināśasyātighorasya naravāraṇavājinām.
2. adya saptadaśa ahāni vartamānasya bhārata
vināśasya atighorasya naravāraṇavājinām
2. bhārata! adya naravāraṇavājinām atighorasya vartamānasya vināśasya saptadaśa ahāni (santi).
2. Today, O Dhṛtarāṣṭra, it is the seventeenth day of this exceedingly dreadful destruction of men, elephants, and horses.
भूत्वा हि विपुला सेना तावकानां परैः सह ।
अन्योन्यं समरे प्राप्य किंचिच्छेषा विशां पते ॥३॥
3. bhūtvā hi vipulā senā tāvakānāṁ paraiḥ saha ,
anyonyaṁ samare prāpya kiṁciccheṣā viśāṁ pate.
3. bhūtvā hi vipulā senā tāvakānām paraiḥ saha
anyonyam samare prāpya kiñcit śeṣā viśām pate
3. he viśām pate! hi vipulā tāvakānām senā paraiḥ saha anyonyam samare prāpya kiñcit śeṣā bhūtvā (vartate).
3. For indeed, O lord of men, your vast army, along with the enemies, having met each other in battle, has become only a small remnant.
भूत्वा हि कौरवाः पार्थ प्रभूतगजवाजिनः ।
त्वां वै शत्रुं समासाद्य विनष्टा रणमूर्धनि ॥४॥
4. bhūtvā hi kauravāḥ pārtha prabhūtagajavājinaḥ ,
tvāṁ vai śatruṁ samāsādya vinaṣṭā raṇamūrdhani.
4. bhūtvā hi kauravāḥ pārtha prabhūtagajavājinaḥ
tvām vai śatrum samāsādya vinaṣṭāḥ raṇamūrdhani
4. pārtha hi prabhūtagajavājinaḥ kauravāḥ tvām vai

4. Indeed, O Pārtha, the Kauravas, despite possessing abundant elephants and horses, perished on the battlefield after encountering you as an enemy.
एते च सर्वे पाञ्चालाः सृञ्जयाश्च सहान्वयाः ।
त्वां समासाद्य दुर्धर्षं पाण्डवाश्च व्यवस्थिताः ॥५॥
5. ete ca sarve pāñcālāḥ sṛñjayāśca sahānvayāḥ ,
tvāṁ samāsādya durdharṣaṁ pāṇḍavāśca vyavasthitāḥ.
5. ete ca sarve pāñcālāḥ sṛñjayāḥ ca sahānvayāḥ tvām
samāsādya durdharṣam pāṇḍavāḥ ca vyavasthitāḥ
5. ca ete sarve pāñcālāḥ ca sahānvayāḥ sṛñjayāḥ ca
pāṇḍavāḥ durdharṣam tvām samāsādya vyavasthitāḥ
5. And all these Pāñcālas, along with the Sṛñjayas and their followers, and the Pāṇḍavas, having approached you, the formidable one, remained steadfast.
पाञ्चालैः पाण्डवैर्मत्स्यैः कारूषैश्चेदिकेकयैः ।
त्वया गुप्तैरमित्रघ्न कृतः शत्रुगणक्षयः ॥६॥
6. pāñcālaiḥ pāṇḍavairmatsyaiḥ kārūṣaiścedikekayaiḥ ,
tvayā guptairamitraghna kṛtaḥ śatrugaṇakṣayaḥ.
6. pāñcālaiḥ pāṇḍavaiḥ matsyaiḥ kārūṣaiḥ ca cedikekayaiḥ
tvayā guptaiḥ amitraghna kṛtaḥ śatrugaṇakṣayaḥ
6. amitraghna tvayā guptaiḥ pāñcālaiḥ pāṇḍavaiḥ matsyaiḥ
kārūṣaiḥ ca cedikekayaiḥ śatrugaṇakṣayaḥ kṛtaḥ
6. O slayer of enemies (amitraghna), the destruction of the enemy hosts was accomplished by the Pāñcālas, Pāṇḍavas, Matsyas, Kārūṣas, and the Cedis and Kekayas, who were all protected by you.
को हि शक्तो रणे जेतुं कौरवांस्तात संगतान् ।
अन्यत्र पाण्डवान्युद्धे त्वया गुप्तान्महारथान् ॥७॥
7. ko hi śakto raṇe jetuṁ kauravāṁstāta saṁgatān ,
anyatra pāṇḍavānyuddhe tvayā guptānmahārathān.
7. kaḥ hi śaktaḥ raṇe jetum kauravān tāta saṃgatān
anyatra pāṇḍavān yuddhe tvayā guptān mahārathān
7. tāta hi tvayā guptān mahārathān pāṇḍavān anyatra
kaḥ raṇe saṃgatān kauravān yuddhe jetum śaktaḥ
7. Indeed, dear one (tāta), who would be capable of conquering the assembled Kauravas in battle, except the great charioteers (mahārathān), the Pāṇḍavas, when protected by you in war?
त्वं हि शक्तो रणे जेतुं ससुरासुरमानुषान् ।
त्रीँल्लोकान्सममुद्युक्तान्किं पुनः कौरवं बलम् ॥८॥
8. tvaṁ hi śakto raṇe jetuṁ sasurāsuramānuṣān ,
trīँllokānsamamudyuktānkiṁ punaḥ kauravaṁ balam.
8. tvam hi śaktaḥ raṇe jetum sasurāsuramānuṣān trīn
lokān samamudyuktān kim punaḥ kauravam balam
8. tvam hi raṇe sasurāsuramānuṣān samamudyuktān
trīn lokān jetum śaktaḥ punaḥ kauravam balam kim
8. Indeed, you are capable of conquering in battle the three worlds, even if they were united with gods, asuras, and humans and fully arrayed for battle. What then (is the challenge of) the Kuru army?
भगदत्तं हि राजानं कोऽन्यः शक्तस्त्वया विना ।
जेतुं पुरुषशार्दूल योऽपि स्याद्वासवोपमः ॥९॥
9. bhagadattaṁ hi rājānaṁ ko'nyaḥ śaktastvayā vinā ,
jetuṁ puruṣaśārdūla yo'pi syādvāsavopamaḥ.
9. bhagadattam hi rājānam kaḥ anyaḥ śaktaḥ tvayā
vinā jetum puruṣaśārdūla yaḥ api syāt vāsavopamaḥ
9. puruṣaśārdūla tvayā vinā kaḥ anyaḥ yaḥ api
vāsavopamaḥ syāt bhagadattam rājānam jetum hi śaktaḥ
9. O best among men, indeed, who else apart from you would be capable of conquering King Bhagadatta, even if that person were equal to Indra (Vasava)?
तथेमां विपुलां सेनां गुप्तां पार्थ त्वयानघ ।
न शेकुः पार्थिवाः सर्वे चक्षुर्भिरभिवीक्षितुम् ॥१०॥
10. tathemāṁ vipulāṁ senāṁ guptāṁ pārtha tvayānagha ,
na śekuḥ pārthivāḥ sarve cakṣurbhirabhivīkṣitum.
10. tathā imām vipulām senām guptām pārtha tvayā anagha
na śekuḥ pārthivāḥ sarve cakṣurbhiḥ abhivīkṣitum
10. pārtha anagha tathā imām tvayā guptām vipulām senām
sarve pārthivāḥ cakṣurbhiḥ abhivīkṣitum na śekuḥ
10. O sinless Partha (Arjuna), thus, all the kings were not able to even gaze upon this vast army, which was protected by you.
तथैव सततं पार्थ रक्षिताभ्यां त्वया रणे ।
धृष्टद्युम्नशिखण्डिभ्यां भीष्मद्रोणौ निपातितौ ॥११॥
11. tathaiva satataṁ pārtha rakṣitābhyāṁ tvayā raṇe ,
dhṛṣṭadyumnaśikhaṇḍibhyāṁ bhīṣmadroṇau nipātitau.
11. tathā eva satatam pārtha rakṣitābhyām tvayā raṇe
dhṛṣṭadyumnaśikhaṇḍibhyām bhīṣmadroṇau nipātitau
11. pārtha tathā eva tvayā raṇe satatam rakṣitābhyām
dhṛṣṭadyumnaśikhaṇḍibhyām bhīṣmadroṇau nipātitau
11. O Partha, in the same way, Bhishma and Drona were struck down in battle by Dhṛṣṭadyumna and Śikhaṇḍin, who were constantly protected by you.
को हि शक्तो रणे पार्थ पाञ्चालानां महारथौ ।
भीष्मद्रोणौ युधा जेतुं शक्रतुल्यपराक्रमौ ॥१२॥
12. ko hi śakto raṇe pārtha pāñcālānāṁ mahārathau ,
bhīṣmadroṇau yudhā jetuṁ śakratulyaparākramau.
12. kaḥ hi śaktaḥ raṇe pārtha pāñcālānām mahārathau
bhīṣmadroṇau yudhā jetum śakratulyaparākramau
12. pārtha,
pāñcālānām kaḥ hi śaktaḥ raṇe yudhā bhīṣmadroṇau mahārathau śakratulyaparākramau jetum
12. O Pārtha, who indeed among the Pāñcālas is capable of defeating in battle Bhīṣma and Droṇa, the two great charioteers whose valor equals that of Indra?
को हि शांतनवं संख्ये द्रोणं वैकर्तनं कृपम् ।
द्रौणिं च सौमदत्तिं च कृतवर्माणमेव च ।
सैन्धवं मद्रराजं च राजानं च सुयोधनम् ॥१३॥
13. ko hi śāṁtanavaṁ saṁkhye droṇaṁ vaikartanaṁ kṛpam ,
drauṇiṁ ca saumadattiṁ ca kṛtavarmāṇameva ca ,
saindhavaṁ madrarājaṁ ca rājānaṁ ca suyodhanam.
13. kaḥ hi śāntanavam saṅkhye droṇam
vaikartanam kṛpam drauṇim ca saumadattim
ca kṛtavarmāṇam eva ca saindhavam
madrarājam ca rājānam ca suyodhanam
13. kaḥ hi saṅkhye śāntanavam droṇam
vaikartanam kṛpam ca drauṇim ca
saumadattim ca eva kṛtavarmāṇam saindhavam
ca madrarājam ca rājānam suyodhanam
13. Who indeed in battle [can conquer] the son of Śāntanu (Bhīṣma), Droṇa, the son of Vikartana (Karṇa), Kṛpa; and Drauṇi (Aśvatthāmā), and Saumadatti (Bhūriśravas), and also Kṛtavarmā; and Saindhava (Jayadratha), and the King of Madras (Śalya), and King Suyodhana (Duryodhana)?
वीरान्कृतास्त्रान्समरे सर्वानेवानुवर्तिनः ।
अक्षौहिणीपतीनुग्रान्संरब्धान्युद्धदुर्मदान् ॥१४॥
14. vīrānkṛtāstrānsamare sarvānevānuvartinaḥ ,
akṣauhiṇīpatīnugrānsaṁrabdhānyuddhadurmadān.
14. vīrān kṛtāstrān samare sarvān eva anuvartinaḥ
akṣauhiṇīpatīn ugrān saṃrabdhān yuddhadurmadān
14. samare vīrān kṛtāstrān sarvān eva anuvartinaḥ
ugrān saṃrabdhān yuddhadurmadān akṣauhiṇīpatīn
14. [Who can conquer these] heroes, skilled in weaponry, all loyal followers in battle; the formidable commanders of akṣauhiṇī divisions, enraged and arrogant with the frenzy of war?
श्रेण्यश्च बहुलाः क्षीणाः प्रदीर्णाश्वरथद्विपाः ।
नानाजनपदाश्चोग्राः क्षत्रियाणाममर्षिणाम् ॥१५॥
15. śreṇyaśca bahulāḥ kṣīṇāḥ pradīrṇāśvarathadvipāḥ ,
nānājanapadāścogrāḥ kṣatriyāṇāmamarṣiṇām.
15. śreṇyaḥ ca bahulāḥ kṣīṇāḥ pradīrṇāśvarathadvipāḥ
nānājanapadāḥ ca ugrāḥ kṣatriyāṇām amarṣiṇām
15. ca bahulāḥ kṣīṇāḥ pradīrṇāśvarathadvipāḥ śreṇyaḥ;
ca kṣatriyāṇām amarṣiṇām nānājanapadāḥ ugrāḥ
15. And there are also numerous depleted ranks, whose horses, chariots, and elephants are scattered; and fierce warriors from various regions, belonging to the angry Kṣatriyas.
गोवासदासमीयानां वसातीनां च भारत ।
व्रात्यानां वाटधानानां भोजानां चापि मानिनाम् ॥१६॥
16. govāsadāsamīyānāṁ vasātīnāṁ ca bhārata ,
vrātyānāṁ vāṭadhānānāṁ bhojānāṁ cāpi māninām.
16. govāsadasamīyānām vasātīnām ca bhārata
vrātyānām vāṭadhānānām bhojānām ca api māninām
16. bhārata govāsadasamīyānām ca vasātīnām
vrātyānām vāṭadhānānām bhojānām ca api māninām
16. O Bhārata, (among those who met destruction were) also the Govāsadasamīyas, the Vasātis, the Vrātyas, the Vāṭadhānas, and the proud Bhojas.
उदीर्णाश्च महासेना ब्रह्मक्षत्रस्य भारत ।
त्वां समासाद्य निधनं गताः साश्वरथद्विपाः ॥१७॥
17. udīrṇāśca mahāsenā brahmakṣatrasya bhārata ,
tvāṁ samāsādya nidhanaṁ gatāḥ sāśvarathadvipāḥ.
17. udīrṇāḥ ca mahāsenāḥ brahmakṣatrasya bhārata tvām
samāsādya nidhanam gatāḥ sa-aśva-ratha-dvipāḥ
17. bhārata udīrṇāḥ ca brahmakṣatrasya mahāsenāḥ tvām
samāsādya sa-aśva-ratha-dvipāḥ nidhanam gatāḥ
17. O Bhārata, immense armies, even those consisting of Brahmins and Kṣatriyas, that had risen, found their end upon encountering you, along with their horses, chariots, and elephants.
उग्राश्च क्रूरकर्माणस्तुखारा यवनाः खशाः ।
दार्वाभिसारा दरदाः शका रमठतङ्गणाः ॥१८॥
18. ugrāśca krūrakarmāṇastukhārā yavanāḥ khaśāḥ ,
dārvābhisārā daradāḥ śakā ramaṭhataṅgaṇāḥ.
18. ugrāḥ ca krūra-karmāṇaḥ tukhārāḥ yavanāḥ khaśāḥ
dārvābhisārāḥ daradāḥ śakāḥ ramaṭhāḥ taṅgaṇāḥ
18. ugrāḥ ca krūra-karmāṇaḥ tukhārāḥ yavanāḥ khaśāḥ
dārvābhisārāḥ daradāḥ śakāḥ ramaṭhāḥ taṅgaṇāḥ
18. Among them were also the fierce and cruel-acting Tukhāras, Yavanas, Khaśas, Dārvābhisāras, Daradas, Śakas, Ramaṭhas, and Taṅgaṇas.
अन्ध्रकाश्च पुलिन्दाश्च किराताश्चोग्रविक्रमाः ।
म्लेच्छाश्च पार्वतीयाश्च सागरानूपवासिनः ।
संरम्भिणो युद्धशौण्डा बलिनो दृब्धपाणयः ॥१९॥
19. andhrakāśca pulindāśca kirātāścogravikramāḥ ,
mlecchāśca pārvatīyāśca sāgarānūpavāsinaḥ ,
saṁrambhiṇo yuddhaśauṇḍā balino dṛbdhapāṇayaḥ.
19. andhrakāḥ ca pulindāḥ ca kirātāḥ ca
ugra-vikramāḥ mlecchāḥ ca pārvatīyāḥ
ca sāgarānūpavāsinaḥ saṃrambhiṇaḥ
yuddha-śauṇḍāḥ balinaḥ dṛbdha-pāṇayaḥ
19. andhrakāḥ ca pulindāḥ ca kirātāḥ ca
ugra-vikramāḥ mlecchāḥ ca pārvatīyāḥ
ca sāgarānūpavāsinaḥ saṃrambhiṇaḥ
yuddha-śauṇḍāḥ balinaḥ dṛbdha-pāṇayaḥ
19. Also, the Andhrakas, Pulindas, and Kirātas, who were of terrible prowess; and the Mlecchas, the mountain dwellers, and those residing in the coastal and marshy regions; all of them were wrathful, eager for battle, mighty, and held their weapons with a firm grip.
एते सुयोधनस्यार्थे संरब्धाः कुरुभिः सह ।
न शक्या युधि निर्जेतुं त्वदन्येन परंतप ॥२०॥
20. ete suyodhanasyārthe saṁrabdhāḥ kurubhiḥ saha ,
na śakyā yudhi nirjetuṁ tvadanyena paraṁtapa.
20. ete suyodhanasya arthe saṃrabdhāḥ kurubhiḥ saha
na śakyā yudhi nirjetum tvat anyena paraṃtapa
20. paraṃtapa ete suyodhanasya arthe kurubhiḥ saha
saṃrabdhāḥ yudhi tvat anyena na nirjetum śakyā
20. O scorcher of foes, these warriors, who are fiercely resolute on behalf of Suyodhana and allied with the Kurus, cannot be defeated in battle by anyone other than you.
धार्तराष्ट्रमुदग्रं हि व्यूढं दृष्ट्वा महाबलम् ।
यस्य त्वं न भवेस्त्राता प्रतीयात्को नु मानवः ॥२१॥
21. dhārtarāṣṭramudagraṁ hi vyūḍhaṁ dṛṣṭvā mahābalam ,
yasya tvaṁ na bhavestrātā pratīyātko nu mānavaḥ.
21. dhārtarāṣṭram udagram hi vyūḍham dṛṣṭvā mahābalam
yasya tvam na bhaveḥ trātā pratīyāt kaḥ nu mānavaḥ
21. hi dhārtarāṣṭram udagram mahābalam vyūḍham dṛṣṭvā,
yasya tvam trātā na bhaveḥ,
kaḥ mānavaḥ nu pratīyāt?
21. Indeed, seeing the formidable and mighty army of Dhritarashtra's son arrayed, what human being would place faith (in victory) if you were not their protector?
तत्सागरमिवोद्धूतं रजसा संवृतं बलम् ।
विदार्य पाण्डवैः क्रुद्धैस्त्वया गुप्तैर्हतं विभो ॥२२॥
22. tatsāgaramivoddhūtaṁ rajasā saṁvṛtaṁ balam ,
vidārya pāṇḍavaiḥ kruddhaistvayā guptairhataṁ vibho.
22. tat sāgaram iva uddhūtam rajasā saṃvṛtam balam
vidārya pāṇḍavaiḥ kruddhaiḥ tvayā guptaiḥ hatam vibho
22. vibho tat sāgaram iva uddhūtam rajasā saṃvṛtam balam,
tvayā गुप्तैः kruddhaiḥ pāṇḍavaiḥ vidārya hatam
22. O lord, that army, agitated like an ocean and enveloped by dust, was first shattered and then destroyed by the furious Pāṇḍavas, who were protected by you.
मागधानामधिपतिर्जयत्सेनो महाबलः ।
अद्य सप्तैव चाहानि हतः संख्येऽभिमन्युना ॥२३॥
23. māgadhānāmadhipatirjayatseno mahābalaḥ ,
adya saptaiva cāhāni hataḥ saṁkhye'bhimanyunā.
23. māgadhānām adhipatiḥ jayatsenaḥ mahābalaḥ adya
sapta eva ca ahāni hataḥ saṃkhye abhimanyunā
23. māgadhānām अधिपतिः महाबलः जयत्सेनः अभिमन्युना संख्ये हतः,
च अद्य सप्त एव अहानि
23. Jayatsena, the mighty ruler of the Magadhas, was slain in battle by Abhimanyu; and it has been only seven days (since that event).
ततो दश सहस्राणि गजानां भीमकर्मणाम् ।
जघान गदया भीमस्तस्य राज्ञः परिच्छदम् ।
ततोऽन्येऽपि हता नागा रथाश्च शतशो बलात् ॥२४॥
24. tato daśa sahasrāṇi gajānāṁ bhīmakarmaṇām ,
jaghāna gadayā bhīmastasya rājñaḥ paricchadam ,
tato'nye'pi hatā nāgā rathāśca śataśo balāt.
24. tataḥ daśa sahasrāṇi gajānām
bhīmakarmaṇām jaghāna gadayā bhīmaḥ tasya
rājñaḥ paricchadam tataḥ anye api
hatāḥ nāgāḥ rathāḥ ca śataśaḥ balāt
24. tataḥ bhīmaḥ gadayā bhīmakarmaṇām
gajānām daśa sahasrāṇi tasya rājñaḥ
paricchadam jaghāna tataḥ anye api
nāgāḥ ca rathāḥ śataśaḥ balāt hatāḥ
24. Bhīma then, with his mace, killed ten thousand elephants of formidable power, which were part of that king's retinue. Subsequently, other elephants and hundreds of chariots were also forcibly destroyed.
तदेवं समरे तात वर्तमाने महाभये ।
भीमसेनं समासाद्य त्वां च पाण्डव कौरवाः ।
सवाजिरथनागाश्च मृत्युलोकमितो गताः ॥२५॥
25. tadevaṁ samare tāta vartamāne mahābhaye ,
bhīmasenaṁ samāsādya tvāṁ ca pāṇḍava kauravāḥ ,
savājirathanāgāśca mṛtyulokamito gatāḥ.
25. tat evam samare tāta vartamāne
mahābhaye bhīmasenam samāsādya tvām
ca pāṇḍava kauravāḥ savājirathanāgāḥ
ca mṛtyulokam itaḥ gatāḥ
25. tāta tat evam samare mahābhaye
vartamāne bhīmasenam ca tvām
pāṇḍava samāsādya savājirathanāgāḥ
kauravāḥ itaḥ mṛtyulokam gatāḥ
25. O dear father (tāta), while such a terribly frightening battle (samare mahābhayāvartamāne) was raging, the Kauravas, having confronted Bhīmasena and you (O Pāṇḍava), along with their horses, chariots, and elephants, departed from this world to the realm of death.
तथा सेनामुखे तत्र निहते पार्थ पाण्डवैः ।
भीष्मः प्रासृजदुग्राणि शरवर्षाणि मारिष ॥२६॥
26. tathā senāmukhe tatra nihate pārtha pāṇḍavaiḥ ,
bhīṣmaḥ prāsṛjadugrāṇi śaravarṣāṇi māriṣa.
26. tathā senāmukhe tatra nihate pārtha pāṇḍavaiḥ
bhīṣmaḥ prāsṛjat ugrāṇi śaravarṣāṇi māriṣa
26. pārtha māriṣa tathā tatra senāmukhe pāṇḍavaiḥ
nihate bhīṣmaḥ ugrāṇi śaravarṣāṇi prāsṛjat
26. O Pārtha (Prince), O respected one, when the vanguard of the army was thus destroyed there by the Pāṇḍavas, Bhīṣma unleashed fierce torrents of arrows.
स चेदिकाशिपाञ्चालान्करूषान्मत्स्यकेकयान् ।
शरैः प्रच्छाद्य निधनमनयत्परुषास्त्रवित् ॥२७॥

27. He (Bhīṣma), skilled in fierce weaponry, overwhelmed the Cedis, Kāśis, Pāñcālas, Karūṣas, Matsyas, and Kekayas with his arrows, leading them to their demise.
तस्य चापच्युतैर्बाणैः परदेहविदारणैः ।
पूर्णमाकाशमभवद्रुक्मपुङ्खैरजिह्मगैः ॥२८॥
28. tasya cāpacyutairbāṇaiḥ paradehavidāraṇaiḥ ,
pūrṇamākāśamabhavadrukmapuṅkhairajihmagaiḥ.

28. And the sky became filled with his arrows, which, shot from his bow, were piercing the bodies of foes, had golden shafts, and flew straight.
गत्या दशम्या ते गत्वा जघ्नुर्वाजिरथद्विपान् ।
हित्वा नव गतीर्दुष्टाः स बाणान्व्यायतोऽमुचत् ॥२९॥
29. gatyā daśamyā te gatvā jaghnurvājirathadvipān ,
hitvā nava gatīrduṣṭāḥ sa bāṇānvyāyato'mucat.

29. They, advancing with the tenth strategy, killed the horses, chariots, and elephants. He, having abandoned the nine faulty approaches, released arrows after drawing his bow.
दिनानि दश भीष्मेण निघ्नता तावकं बलम् ।
शून्याः कृता रथोपस्था हताश्च गजवाजिनः ॥३०॥
30. dināni daśa bhīṣmeṇa nighnatā tāvakaṁ balam ,
śūnyāḥ kṛtā rathopasthā hatāśca gajavājinaḥ.

30. For ten days, as Bhishma was striking down your army, the chariot warriors were annihilated, and the elephants and horses were killed.
दर्शयित्वात्मनो रूपं रुद्रोपेन्द्रसमं युधि ।
पाण्डवानामनीकानि प्रविगाह्य व्यशातयत् ॥३१॥
31. darśayitvātmano rūpaṁ rudropendrasamaṁ yudhi ,
pāṇḍavānāmanīkāni pravigāhya vyaśātayat.

31. After displaying his own form (ātman), which was like that of Rudra and Upendra, in battle, he, having deeply penetrated the armies of the Pandavas, utterly scattered them.
विनिघ्नन्पृथिवीपालांश्चेदिपाञ्चालकेकयान् ।
व्यदहत्पाण्डवीं सेनां नराश्वगजसंकुलाम् ॥३२॥
32. vinighnanpṛthivīpālāṁścedipāñcālakekayān ,
vyadahatpāṇḍavīṁ senāṁ narāśvagajasaṁkulām.

32. He struck down the kings of Chedi, Pañcāla, and Kekaya, and scorched the Pāṇḍava army, which was teeming with men, horses, and elephants.
मज्जन्तमप्लवे मन्दमुज्जिहीर्षुः सुयोधनम् ।
तथा चरन्तं समरे तपन्तमिव भास्करम् ।
न शेकुः सृञ्जया द्रष्टुं तथैवान्ये महीक्षितः ॥३३॥
33. majjantamaplave mandamujjihīrṣuḥ suyodhanam ,
tathā carantaṁ samare tapantamiva bhāskaram ,
na śekuḥ sṛñjayā draṣṭuṁ tathaivānye mahīkṣitaḥ.

33. Desiring to rescue the disheartened Suyodhana, who was drowning in helplessness, and acting thus in battle, blazing like the sun, neither the Srinjayas nor other kings were able to look at him.
विचरन्तं तथा तं तु संग्रामे जितकाशिनम् ।
सर्वोद्योगेन सहसा पाण्डवाः समुपाद्रवन् ॥३४॥
34. vicarantaṁ tathā taṁ tu saṁgrāme jitakāśinam ,
sarvodyogena sahasā pāṇḍavāḥ samupādravan.

34. But the Pāṇḍavas, with their full force, suddenly attacked him, who was thus moving about in battle and shining victoriously.
स तु विद्राव्य समरे पाण्डवान्सृञ्जयानपि ।
एक एव रणे भीष्म एकवीरत्वमागतः ॥३५॥
35. sa tu vidrāvya samare pāṇḍavānsṛñjayānapi ,
eka eva raṇe bhīṣma ekavīratvamāgataḥ.

35. But Bhishma, having routed the Pāṇḍavas and even the Srinjayas in battle, alone attained supreme heroism (ekavīratvam) in the fight.
तं शिखण्डी समासाद्य त्वया गुप्तो महारथम् ।
जघान पुरुषव्याघ्रं शरैः संनतपर्वभिः ॥३६॥
36. taṁ śikhaṇḍī samāsādya tvayā gupto mahāratham ,
jaghāna puruṣavyāghraṁ śaraiḥ saṁnataparvabhiḥ.

36. Shikhandi, protected by you, having approached that great chariot-warrior (mahāratha), the tiger among men, struck him with arrows having well-aimed shafts.
स एष पतितः शेते शरतल्पे पितामहः ।
त्वां प्राप्य पुरुषव्याघ्र गृध्रः प्राप्येव वायसम् ॥३७॥
37. sa eṣa patitaḥ śete śaratalpe pitāmahaḥ ,
tvāṁ prāpya puruṣavyāghra gṛdhraḥ prāpyeva vāyasam.

37. That grandfather (Bhishma) lies fallen on a bed of arrows. O tiger among men, having encountered you, he is like a crow caught by a vulture.
द्रोणः पञ्च दिनान्युग्रो विधम्य रिपुवाहिनीः ।
कृत्वा व्यूहं महायुद्धे पातयित्वा महारथान् ॥३८॥
38. droṇaḥ pañca dinānyugro vidhamya ripuvāhinīḥ ,
kṛtvā vyūhaṁ mahāyuddhe pātayitvā mahārathān.

38. Fierce Drona, for five days, having scattered the enemy armies, having formed battle arrays in the great battle, and having caused great chariot-warriors to fall...
जयद्रथस्य समरे कृत्वा रक्षां महारथः ।
अन्तकप्रतिमश्चोग्रां रात्रिं युद्ध्वादहत्प्रजाः ॥३९॥
39. jayadrathasya samare kṛtvā rakṣāṁ mahārathaḥ ,
antakapratimaścogrāṁ rātriṁ yuddhvādahatprajāḥ.

39. The great chariot-warrior (Drona), having provided protection for Jayadratha in battle, and fierce like the god of death (Antaka), having fought through the night, annihilated many warriors.
अद्येति द्वे दिने वीरो भारद्वाजः प्रतापवान् ।
धृष्टद्युम्नं समासाद्य स गतः परमां गतिम् ॥४०॥
40. adyeti dve dine vīro bhāradvājaḥ pratāpavān ,
dhṛṣṭadyumnaṁ samāsādya sa gataḥ paramāṁ gatim.

40. Thus, for two days, the valiant and mighty Bharadvāja, Drona, after encountering Dhṛṣṭadyumna, attained the supreme state (paramāṃ gatim).
यदि चैव परान्युद्धे सूतपुत्रमुखान्रथान् ।
नावारयिष्यः संग्रामे न स्म द्रोणो व्यनङ्क्ष्यत ॥४१॥
41. yadi caiva parānyuddhe sūtaputramukhānrathān ,
nāvārayiṣyaḥ saṁgrāme na sma droṇo vyanaṅkṣyata.

41. If indeed you had not held back the enemy chariots, led by Karṇa, in battle, Drona would not have been killed in the war.
भवता तु बलं सर्वं धार्तराष्ट्रस्य वारितम् ।
ततो द्रोणो हतो युद्धे पार्षतेन धनंजय ॥४२॥
42. bhavatā tu balaṁ sarvaṁ dhārtarāṣṭrasya vāritam ,
tato droṇo hato yuddhe pārṣatena dhanaṁjaya.

42. But by you, the entire army of Dhṛtarāṣṭra's sons was held back. Therefore, Drona was killed in battle by Dhṛṣṭadyumna, O Dhanañjaya.
क इवान्यो रणे कुर्यात्त्वदन्यः क्षत्रियो युधि ।
यादृशं ते कृतं पार्थ जयद्रथवधं प्रति ॥४३॥
43. ka ivānyo raṇe kuryāttvadanyaḥ kṣatriyo yudhi ,
yādṛśaṁ te kṛtaṁ pārtha jayadrathavadhaṁ prati.

43. What other warrior in battle, besides you, O Pārtha, could perform such an act as you did concerning the killing of Jayadratha?
निवार्य सेनां महतीं हत्वा शूरांश्च पार्थिवान् ।
निहतः सैन्धवो राजा त्वयास्त्रबलतेजसा ॥४४॥
44. nivārya senāṁ mahatīṁ hatvā śūrāṁśca pārthivān ,
nihataḥ saindhavo rājā tvayāstrabalatejasā.

44. After checking the mighty army and killing the heroic kings, the king of Sindhu (Jayadratha) was slain by you through the power and brilliance of your weapons.
आश्चर्यं सिन्धुराजस्य वधं जानन्ति पार्थिवाः ।
अनाश्चर्यं हि तत्त्वत्तस्त्वं हि पार्थ महारथः ॥४५॥
45. āścaryaṁ sindhurājasya vadhaṁ jānanti pārthivāḥ ,
anāścaryaṁ hi tattvattastvaṁ hi pārtha mahārathaḥ.
45. āścaryam sindhurājasya vadham jānanti pārthivāḥ
anāścaryam hi tat tvattaḥ tvam hi pārtha mahārathaḥ

45. Kings consider the slaying of the king of Sindhu to be a wonder. But that, from you, O Pārtha (Arjuna), is certainly not a wonder, for you are indeed a great warrior.
त्वां हि प्राप्य रणे क्षत्रमेकाहादिति भारत ।
तप्यमानमसंयुक्तं न भवेदिति मे मतिः ॥४६॥
46. tvāṁ hi prāpya raṇe kṣatramekāhāditi bhārata ,
tapyamānamasaṁyuktaṁ na bhavediti me matiḥ.
46. tvām hi prāpya raṇe kṣatram ekāhāt iti bhārata
tapyamānam asaṃyuktam na bhavet iti me matiḥ

46. Indeed, my opinion, O Bhārata (Arjuna), is that having confronted you in battle, the warrior class (kṣatram) would not remain suffering and disunited for even a single day.
सेयं पार्थ चमूर्घोरा धार्तराष्ट्रस्य संयुगे ।
हता ससर्ववीरा हि भीष्मद्रोणौ यदा हतौ ॥४७॥
47. seyaṁ pārtha camūrghorā dhārtarāṣṭrasya saṁyuge ,
hatā sasarvavīrā hi bhīṣmadroṇau yadā hatau.
47. sā iyam pārtha camūḥ ghorā dhārtarāṣṭrasya saṃyuge
hatā sasarvavīrā hi bhīṣmadroṇau yadā hatau
47. hi pārtha,
yadā bhīṣmadroṇau hatau,
(tadā) sā iyam dhārtarāṣṭrasya ghorā sasarvavīrā camūḥ saṃyuge hatā.
47. O Pārtha (Arjuna), this dreadful army of Dhṛtarāṣṭra's sons was indeed destroyed along with all its warriors in battle, when Bhīṣma and Droṇa were slain.
शीर्णप्रवरयोधाद्य हतवाजिनरद्विपा ।
हीना सूर्येन्दुनक्षत्रैर्द्यौरिवाभाति भारती ॥४८॥
48. śīrṇapravarayodhādya hatavājinaradvipā ,
hīnā sūryendunakṣatrairdyaurivābhāti bhāratī.

48. The Bhārata army, with its foremost warriors shattered and its horses, men, and elephants slain, appears like a sky devoid of the sun, moon, and stars.
विध्वस्ता हि रणे पार्थ सेनेयं भीमविक्रमात् ।
आसुरीव पुरा सेना शक्रस्येव पराक्रमैः ॥४९॥
49. vidhvastā hi raṇe pārtha seneyaṁ bhīmavikramāt ,
āsurīva purā senā śakrasyeva parākramaiḥ.
49. vidhvastā hi raṇe pārtha senā iyam bhīmavikramāt
āsurī iva purā senā śakrasya iva parākramaiḥ
49. pārtha hi iyam senā bhīmavikramāt raṇe vidhvastā,

49. Indeed, O Pārtha, this army has been completely destroyed in battle by Bhīma's formidable valor, just as the asura army was formerly shattered by Indra's might.
तेषां हतावशिष्टास्तु पञ्च सन्ति महारथाः ।
अश्वत्थामा कृतवर्मा कर्णो मद्राधिपः कृपः ॥५०॥
50. teṣāṁ hatāvaśiṣṭāstu pañca santi mahārathāḥ ,
aśvatthāmā kṛtavarmā karṇo madrādhipaḥ kṛpaḥ.
50. teṣām hataavaśiṣṭāḥ tu pañca santi mahārathāḥ
aśvatthāmā kṛtavarmā karṇaḥ madraādhipaḥ kṛpaḥ
50. tu teṣām hataavaśiṣṭāḥ pañca mahārathāḥ santi:

50. But among them, there are five surviving great charioteers: Ashwatthama, Kṛtavarmā, Karṇa, the king of Madra, and Kṛpa.
तांस्त्वमद्य नरव्याघ्र हत्वा पञ्च महारथान् ।
हतामित्रः प्रयच्छोर्वीं राज्ञः सद्वीपपत्तनाम् ॥५१॥
51. tāṁstvamadya naravyāghra hatvā pañca mahārathān ,
hatāmitraḥ prayacchorvīṁ rājñaḥ sadvīpapattanām.

hataamitraḥ prayaccha urvīm rājñaḥ sadvīpapattanām

51. O tiger among men (naravyāghra), after you have slain these five great charioteers today, grant the earth—including its islands and cities—to the king, your enemies having been vanquished.
साकाशजलपातालां सपर्वतमहावनाम् ।
प्राप्नोत्वमितवीर्यश्रीरद्य पार्थो वसुंधराम् ॥५२॥
52. sākāśajalapātālāṁ saparvatamahāvanām ,
prāpnotvamitavīryaśrīradya pārtho vasuṁdharām.
52. sa-ākāśa-jala-pātālām sa-parvata-mahāvanām
prāpnotu amita-vīrya-śrīḥ adya pārthaḥ vasuṃdharām

52. May Arjuna, possessing immeasurable strength and splendor, today obtain the earth, along with its sky, waters, netherworlds, mountains, and vast forests.
एतां पुरा विष्णुरिव हत्वा दैतेयदानवान् ।
प्रयच्छ मेदिनीं राज्ञे शक्रायेव यथा हरिः ॥५३॥
53. etāṁ purā viṣṇuriva hatvā daiteyadānavān ,
prayaccha medinīṁ rājñe śakrāyeva yathā hariḥ.
53. etām purā viṣṇuḥ iva hatvā daiteya-dānavān
prayaccha medinīm rājñe śakrāya iva yathā hariḥ

53. Just as Hari (Viṣṇu), formerly having slain the Daitya and Danava demons, gave this earth to Indra (Śakra), so should you bestow this land upon the king.
अद्य मोदन्तु पाञ्चाला निहतेष्वरिषु त्वया ।
विष्णुना निहतेष्वेव दानवेयेषु देवताः ॥५४॥
54. adya modantu pāñcālā nihateṣvariṣu tvayā ,
viṣṇunā nihateṣveva dānaveyeṣu devatāḥ.

viṣṇunā nihateṣu eva dānaveyeṣu devatāḥ

54. Today, may the Panchalas rejoice when the enemies are slain by you, just as the gods rejoiced when the Danaveya demons were slain by Viṣṇu.
यदि वा द्विपदां श्रेष्ठ द्रोणं मानयतो गुरुम् ।
अश्वत्थाम्नि कृपा तेऽस्ति कृपे चाचार्यगौरवात् ॥५५॥
55. yadi vā dvipadāṁ śreṣṭha droṇaṁ mānayato gurum ,
aśvatthāmni kṛpā te'sti kṛpe cācāryagauravāt.
55. yadi vā dvipadām śreṣṭha droṇam mānayataḥ gurum
aśvatthāmni kṛpā te asti kṛpe ca ācārya-gauravāt
55. dvipadām śreṣṭha,

55. If, O best among two-footed beings, your two compassions — one for Droṇa, the revered (guru) whom you honor, and the other for Ashvatthaman — exist, and these (compassions) are based on reverence for the preceptor (guru).
अत्यन्तोपचितान्वा त्वं मानयन्भ्रातृबान्धवान् ।
कृतवर्माणमासाद्य न नेष्यसि यमक्षयम् ॥५६॥
56. atyantopacitānvā tvaṁ mānayanbhrātṛbāndhavān ,
kṛtavarmāṇamāsādya na neṣyasi yamakṣayam.

vā kṛtavarmāṇam āsādya yamakṣayam na neṣyasi
56. Even if you honor your exceedingly powerful brothers and kinsmen, or resort to Kṛtavarman, you will still be led to the abode of Yama (destruction).
भ्रातरं मातुरासाद्य शल्यं मद्रजनाधिपम् ।
यदि त्वमरविन्दाक्ष दयावान्न जिघांससि ॥५७॥
57. bhrātaraṁ māturāsādya śalyaṁ madrajanādhipam ,
yadi tvamaravindākṣa dayāvānna jighāṁsasi.

57. O lotus-eyed one, if you, being compassionate, do not wish to kill your maternal uncle Śalya, the lord of the Madras, even after having obtained him [as an ally]...
इमं पापमतिं क्षुद्रमत्यन्तं पाण्डवान्प्रति ।
कर्णमद्य नरश्रेष्ठ जह्याशु निशितैः शरैः ॥५८॥
58. imaṁ pāpamatiṁ kṣudramatyantaṁ pāṇḍavānprati ,
karṇamadya naraśreṣṭha jahyāśu niśitaiḥ śaraiḥ.
58. imam pāpamatim kṣudram atyantam pāṇḍavān prati
karṇam adya naraśreṣṭha jahi āśu niśitaiḥ śaraiḥ
58. naraśreṣṭha! adya tvam āśu niśitaiḥ śaraiḥ pāṇḍavān

58. O best of men, today quickly strike down with sharp arrows this Karṇa, who is exceedingly evil-minded and mean towards the Pāṇḍavas.
एतत्ते सुकृतं कर्म नात्र किंचिन्न युज्यते ।
वयमप्यत्र जानीमो नात्र दोषोऽस्ति कश्चन ॥५९॥
59. etatte sukṛtaṁ karma nātra kiṁcinna yujyate ,
vayamapyatra jānīmo nātra doṣo'sti kaścana.
59. etat te sukṛtam karma na atra kiṃcit na yujyate
vayam api atra jānīmaḥ na atra doṣaḥ asti kaścana
59. etat karma te sukṛtam (bhavet).
atra kiṃcit na na yujyate.
vayam api atra jānīmaḥ (yat) atra kaścana doṣaḥ na asti.
59. This would be a virtuous action (karma) for you; nothing here is inappropriate. We too know that there is no fault (doṣa) whatsoever in this matter.
दहने यत्सपुत्राया निशि मातुस्तवानघ ।
द्यूतार्थे यच्च युष्मासु प्रावर्तत सुयोधनः ।
तत्र सर्वत्र दुष्टात्मा कर्णो मूलमिहार्जुन ॥६०॥
60. dahane yatsaputrāyā niśi mātustavānagha ,
dyūtārthe yacca yuṣmāsu prāvartata suyodhanaḥ ,
tatra sarvatra duṣṭātmā karṇo mūlamihārjuna.
60. dahane yat sāputrāyāḥ niśi mātuḥ
tava anagha dyūtārthe yat ca yuṣmāsu

ca suyodhanaḥ yuṣmāsu dyūtārthe yat prāvartata,
tatra sarvatra duṣṭātmā karṇaḥ iha mūlam
60. O sinless Arjuna, regarding the incident of setting ablaze your mother (Kunti) and her sons at night, and what Duryodhana initiated among you all for the sake of gambling, in all these instances, the evil-minded Karna is the root cause here.
कर्णाद्धि मन्यते त्राणं नित्यमेव सुयोधनः ।
ततो मामपि संरब्धो निग्रहीतुं प्रचक्रमे ॥६१॥
61. karṇāddhi manyate trāṇaṁ nityameva suyodhanaḥ ,
tato māmapi saṁrabdho nigrahītuṁ pracakrame.
61. karṇāt hi manyate trāṇam nityam eva suyodhanaḥ
tataḥ mām api saṃrabdhaḥ nigrahītum pracakrame

61. Duryodhana indeed always considers Karna his sole protection. Therefore, enraged, he even began to seize me.
स्थिरा बुद्धिर्नरेन्द्रस्य धार्तराष्ट्रस्य मानद ।
कर्णः पार्थान्रणे सर्वान्विजेष्यति न संशयः ॥६२॥
62. sthirā buddhirnarendrasya dhārtarāṣṭrasya mānada ,
karṇaḥ pārthānraṇe sarvānvijeṣyati na saṁśayaḥ.

62. O giver of honor (mānada), the resolve (buddhi) of Dhṛtarāṣṭra's son (Duryodhana) is firm, thinking: 'Karna will certainly conquer all the Pārthas (Pandavas) in battle, there is no doubt.'
कर्णमाश्रित्य कौन्तेय धार्तराष्ट्रेण विग्रहः ।
रोचितो भवता सार्धं जानतापि बलं तव ॥६३॥
63. karṇamāśritya kaunteya dhārtarāṣṭreṇa vigrahaḥ ,
rocito bhavatā sārdhaṁ jānatāpi balaṁ tava.

63. O son of Kunti (Kaunteya), Dhṛtarāṣṭra's son (Duryodhana), relying on Karna, initiated this conflict, even though he (Duryodhana) knew your (Arjuna's) strength, and did so in your (Krishna's) presence.
कर्णो हि भाषते नित्यमहं पार्थान्समागतान् ।
वासुदेवं सराजानं विजेष्यामि महारणे ॥६४॥
64. karṇo hi bhāṣate nityamahaṁ pārthānsamāgatān ,
vāsudevaṁ sarājānaṁ vijeṣyāmi mahāraṇe.
64. karṇaḥ hi bhāṣate nityam aham pārthān samāgatān
vāsudevam sa-rājānam vijeshyāmi mahā-raṇe

64. Indeed, Karna constantly boasts, saying, 'I will conquer the assembled Pārthas, along with Vāsudeva and their kings, in a great battle.'
प्रोत्साहयन्दुरात्मानं धार्तराष्ट्रं सुदुर्मतिः ।
समितौ गर्जते कर्णस्तमद्य जहि भारत ॥६५॥
65. protsāhayandurātmānaṁ dhārtarāṣṭraṁ sudurmatiḥ ,
samitau garjate karṇastamadya jahi bhārata.

65. Encouraging the wicked Dhārtarāṣṭra (Duryodhana), Karna, who is exceedingly ill-minded, roars in the assembly. Therefore, O Bhārata (Arjuna), slay him today!
यच्च युष्मासु पापं वै धार्तराष्ट्रः प्रयुक्तवान् ।
तत्र सर्वत्र दुष्टात्मा कर्णः पापमतिर्मुखम् ॥६६॥
66. yacca yuṣmāsu pāpaṁ vai dhārtarāṣṭraḥ prayuktavān ,
tatra sarvatra duṣṭātmā karṇaḥ pāpamatirmukham.

66. And whatever wrong the Dhārtarāṣṭra (Duryodhana) has indeed inflicted upon you, in all those matters, the wicked-minded Karna, having evil intentions, was the principal figure.
यच्च तद्धार्तराष्ट्राणां क्रूरैः षड्भिर्महारथैः ।
अपश्यं निहतं वीरं सौभद्रमृषभेक्षणम् ॥६७॥
67. yacca taddhārtarāṣṭrāṇāṁ krūraiḥ ṣaḍbhirmahārathaiḥ ,
apaśyaṁ nihataṁ vīraṁ saubhadramṛṣabhekṣaṇam.
67. yat ca tat dhārtarāṣṭrāṇām krūraiḥ ṣaḍbhiḥ mahā-rathaiḥ

67. And I saw that valiant hero, Abhimanyu (son of Subhadrā), whose eyes were like a bull's, slain by those six cruel great charioteers belonging to the Dhārtarāṣṭras.
द्रोणद्रौणिकृपान्वीरान्कम्पयन्तो महारथान् ।
निर्मनुष्यांश्च मातङ्गान्विरथांश्च महारथान् ॥६८॥
68. droṇadrauṇikṛpānvīrānkampayanto mahārathān ,
nirmanuṣyāṁśca mātaṅgānvirathāṁśca mahārathān.

68. Making Drona, Ashvatthama, Kripa, and other great charioteer heroes tremble; rendering great charioteers chariot-less; and causing elephants to be without riders.
व्यश्वारोहांश्च तुरगान्पत्तीन्व्यायुधजीवितान् ।
कुर्वन्तमृषभस्कन्धं कुरुवृष्णियशस्करम् ॥६९॥
69. vyaśvārohāṁśca turagānpattīnvyāyudhajīvitān ,
kurvantamṛṣabhaskandhaṁ kuruvṛṣṇiyaśaskaram.

69. Causing horses to be without horsemen, and foot-soldiers to be deprived of their weapons and lives; (that) bull-shouldered (warrior) who brings fame to the Kurus and Vrishnis.
विधमन्तमनीकानि व्यथयन्तं महारथान् ।
मनुष्यवाजिमातङ्गान्प्रहिण्वन्तं यमक्षयम् ॥७०॥
70. vidhamantamanīkāni vyathayantaṁ mahārathān ,
manuṣyavājimātaṅgānprahiṇvantaṁ yamakṣayam.

70. Scattering armies and afflicting great charioteers; sending men, horses, and elephants to the abode of Yama (the god of death).

तन्मे दहति गात्राणि सखे सत्येन ते शपे ॥७१॥
71. śaraiḥ saubhadramāyastaṁ dahantamiva vāhinīm ,
tanme dahati gātrāṇi sakhe satyena te śape.

71. That very son of Subhadra (Abhimanyu), intense and as if burning the entire army with his arrows—that spectacle burns my own limbs, O friend; I swear to you by the truth.
यत्तत्रापि च दुष्टात्मा कर्णोऽभ्यद्रुह्यत प्रभो ।
अशक्नुवंश्चाभिमन्योः कर्णः स्थातुं रणेऽग्रतः ॥७२॥
72. yattatrāpi ca duṣṭātmā karṇo'bhyadruhyata prabho ,
aśaknuvaṁścābhimanyoḥ karṇaḥ sthātuṁ raṇe'grataḥ.
72. yat tatra api ca duṣṭātmā karṇaḥ abhyadruhyata prabho
| aśaknuvan ca abhimanyoḥ karṇaḥ sthātum raṇe agrataḥ

72. O Lord, the evil-minded (ātman) Karṇa also attacked there. Yet Karṇa, being unable to stand in front of Abhimanyu in battle,
सौभद्रशरनिर्भिन्नो विसंज्ञः शोणितोक्षितः ।
निःश्वसन्क्रोधसंदीप्तो विमुखः सायकार्दितः ॥७३॥
73. saubhadraśaranirbhinno visaṁjñaḥ śoṇitokṣitaḥ ,
niḥśvasankrodhasaṁdīpto vimukhaḥ sāyakārditaḥ.

73. Pierced by Abhimanyu's arrows, he became unconscious, drenched in blood. Sighing, ablaze with anger, his face averted, and afflicted by arrows,
अपयानकृतोत्साहो निराशश्चापि जीविते ।
तस्थौ सुविह्वलः संख्ये प्रहारजनितश्रमः ॥७४॥
74. apayānakṛtotsāho nirāśaścāpi jīvite ,
tasthau suvihvalaḥ saṁkhye prahārajanitaśramaḥ.
74. apayāna-kṛta-utsāhaḥ nirāśaḥ ca api jīvite |
tasthau su-vihvalaḥ saṅkhye prahāra-janita-śramaḥ

74. With his resolve set on retreating, and despairing even of his life, he stood utterly bewildered on the battlefield, exhausted by the blows.
अथ द्रोणस्य समरे तत्कालसदृशं तदा ।
श्रुत्वा कर्णो वचः क्रूरं ततश्चिच्छेद कार्मुकम् ॥७५॥
75. atha droṇasya samare tatkālasadṛśaṁ tadā ,
śrutvā karṇo vacaḥ krūraṁ tataściccheda kārmukam.

75. Then, having heard Droṇa's cruel words—words that were appropriate for that very moment in battle—Karṇa then cut his bow (string).
ततश्छिन्नायुधं तेन रणे पञ्च महारथाः ।
स चैव निकृतिप्रज्ञः प्रावधीच्छरवृष्टिभिः ॥७६॥
76. tataśchinnāyudhaṁ tena raṇe pañca mahārathāḥ ,
sa caiva nikṛtiprajñaḥ prāvadhīccharavṛṣṭibhiḥ.

76. Then, in battle, five great charioteers, whose weapons had been severed by him, were struck down by that very person (Karṇa), who had a deceitful intellect, with showers of arrows.
यच्च कर्णोऽब्रवीत्कृष्णां सभायां परुषं वचः ।
प्रमुखे पाण्डवेयानां कुरूणां च नृशंसवत् ॥७७॥
77. yacca karṇo'bravītkṛṣṇāṁ sabhāyāṁ paruṣaṁ vacaḥ ,
pramukhe pāṇḍaveyānāṁ kurūṇāṁ ca nṛśaṁsavat.
77. yat ca karṇaḥ abravīt kṛṣṇām sabhāyām paruṣam
vacaḥ pramukhe pāṇḍaveyānām kurūṇām ca nṛśaṃsavat

77. And what harsh words Karṇa spoke to Kṛṣṇā (Draupadī) in the assembly, in the presence of the Pāṇḍavas and the Kurus, in a cruel manner.
विनष्टाः पाण्डवाः कृष्णे शाश्वतं नरकं गताः ।
पतिमन्यं पृथुश्रोणि वृणीष्व मितभाषिणि ॥७८॥
78. vinaṣṭāḥ pāṇḍavāḥ kṛṣṇe śāśvataṁ narakaṁ gatāḥ ,
patimanyaṁ pṛthuśroṇi vṛṇīṣva mitabhāṣiṇi.

78. O Kṛṣṇā (Draupadī), the Pāṇḍavas are destroyed, having gone to eternal hell. O broad-hipped one, O soft-spoken one, choose another husband.
लेखाभ्रु धृतराष्ट्रस्य दासी भूत्वा निवेशनम् ।
प्रविशारालपक्ष्माक्षि न सन्ति पतयस्तव ॥७९॥
79. lekhābhru dhṛtarāṣṭrasya dāsī bhūtvā niveśanam ,
praviśārālapakṣmākṣi na santi patayastava.

79. O beautifully-browed one, having become Dhṛtarāṣṭra's maidservant, enter his dwelling, O one with straight eyelashes. You have no husbands.
इत्युक्तवानधर्मज्ञस्तदा परमदुर्मतिः ।
पापः पापं वचः कर्णः शृण्वतस्तव भारत ॥८०॥
80. ityuktavānadharmajñastadā paramadurmatiḥ ,
pāpaḥ pāpaṁ vacaḥ karṇaḥ śṛṇvatastava bhārata.
80. iti uktavān adharmajñaḥ tadā paramadurmatiḥ
pāpaḥ pāpaṃ vacaḥ karṇaḥ śṛṇvataḥ tava bhārata

80. O descendant of Bharata, at that time, Karna, the sinful one, extremely evil-minded and ignorant of natural law (dharma), spoke such evil words, while you were listening.
तस्य पापस्य तद्वाक्यं सुवर्णविकृताः शराः ।
शमयन्तु शिलाधौतास्त्वयास्ता जीवितच्छिदः ॥८१॥
81. tasya pāpasya tadvākyaṁ suvarṇavikṛtāḥ śarāḥ ,
śamayantu śilādhautāstvayāstā jīvitacchidaḥ.
81. tasya pāpasya tat vākyaṃ suvarṇavikṛtāḥ śarāḥ
śamayantu śilādhautāḥ tvayā āstā jīvitacchidaḥ

śarāḥ tasya pāpasya tat vākyaṃ śamayantu
81. May those life-destroying arrows, shot by you, polished on stone and adorned with gold, silence that sinful one's words.
यानि चान्यानि दुष्टात्मा पापानि कृतवांस्त्वयि ।
तान्यद्य जीवितं चास्य शमयन्तु शरास्तव ॥८२॥
82. yāni cānyāni duṣṭātmā pāpāni kṛtavāṁstvayi ,
tānyadya jīvitaṁ cāsya śamayantu śarāstava.
82. yāni ca anyāni duṣṭātmā pāpāni kṛtavān tvayi
tāni adya jīvitaṃ ca asya śamayantu śarāḥ tava
82. duṣṭātmā tvayi yāni anyāni pāpāni kṛtavān adya

82. And whatever other evil deeds that wicked person committed against you, may your arrows destroy both those actions and his life (jīvita) today.
गाण्डीवप्रहितान्घोरानद्य गात्रैः स्पृशञ्शरान् ।
कर्णः स्मरतु दुष्टात्मा वचनं द्रोणभीष्मयोः ॥८३॥
83. gāṇḍīvaprahitānghorānadya gātraiḥ spṛśañśarān ,
karṇaḥ smaratu duṣṭātmā vacanaṁ droṇabhīṣmayoḥ.

83. May that wicked person, Karna, as he feels the dreadful arrows shot from the Gaṇḍīva bow with his own body today, remember the counsel (vacana) of Drona and Bhishma.
सुवर्णपुङ्खा नाराचाः शत्रुघ्ना वैद्युतप्रभाः ।
त्वयास्तास्तस्य मर्माणि भित्त्वा पास्यन्ति शोणितम् ॥८४॥
84. suvarṇapuṅkhā nārācāḥ śatrughnā vaidyutaprabhāḥ ,
tvayāstāstasya marmāṇi bhittvā pāsyanti śoṇitam.

84. The golden-shafted iron arrows, enemy-killing and as brilliant as lightning, shot by you, will pierce his vital spots and drink his blood.

85. Today, may these terrible, sharp, swift arrows, released from your arm, pierce Karna's vital spot and send him to the abode of Yama.
अद्य हाहाकृता दीना विषण्णास्त्वच्छरार्दिताः ।
प्रपतन्तं रथात्कर्णं पश्यन्तु वसुधाधिपाः ॥८६॥
86. adya hāhākṛtā dīnā viṣaṇṇāstvaccharārditāḥ ,
prapatantaṁ rathātkarṇaṁ paśyantu vasudhādhipāḥ.

86. Today, may the kings, crying out 'hā hā' in distress, miserable, dejected, and tormented by your arrows, see Karna falling from his chariot.
अद्य स्वशोणिते मग्नं शयानं पतितं भुवि ।
अपविद्धायुधं कर्णं पश्यन्तु सुहृदो निजाः ॥८७॥
87. adya svaśoṇite magnaṁ śayānaṁ patitaṁ bhuvi ,
apaviddhāyudhaṁ karṇaṁ paśyantu suhṛdo nijāḥ.

87. Today, may Karna's own friends see him lying fallen on the ground, immersed in his own blood, and with his weapons cast aside.
हस्तिकक्ष्यो महानस्य भल्लेनोन्मथितस्त्वया ।
प्रकम्पमानः पततु भूमावाधिरथेर्ध्वजः ॥८८॥
88. hastikakṣyo mahānasya bhallenonmathitastvayā ,
prakampamānaḥ patatu bhūmāvādhiratherdhvajaḥ.

88. Let that great elephant banner of Adhiratha's son (Karṇa), shattered by your spear, fall trembling to the ground.
त्वया शरशतैश्छिन्नं रथं हेमविभूषितम् ।
हतयोधं समुत्सृज्य भीतः शल्यः पलायताम् ॥८९॥
89. tvayā śaraśataiśchinnaṁ rathaṁ hemavibhūṣitam ,
hatayodhaṁ samutsṛjya bhītaḥ śalyaḥ palāyatām.

89. Let the frightened Śalya abandon the gold-adorned chariot, its warrior slain and shattered by hundreds of your arrows, and let him flee.
ततः सुयोधनो दृष्ट्वा हतमाधिरथिं त्वया ।
निराशो जीविते त्वद्य राज्ये चैव धनंजय ॥९०॥
90. tataḥ suyodhano dṛṣṭvā hatamādhirathiṁ tvayā ,
nirāśo jīvite tvadya rājye caiva dhanaṁjaya.

90. Then, O Dhanañjaya (Arjuna), after seeing Adhiratha's son (Karṇa) killed by you, Duryodhana will be without hope for his life and indeed for his kingdom now.
एते द्रवन्ति पाञ्चाला वध्यमानाः शितैः शरैः ।
कर्णेन भरतश्रेष्ठ पाण्डवानुज्जिहीर्षवः ॥९१॥
91. ete dravanti pāñcālā vadhyamānāḥ śitaiḥ śaraiḥ ,
karṇena bharataśreṣṭha pāṇḍavānujjihīrṣavaḥ.

91. O best of Bhāratas (Arjuna), these Pañcālas, desiring to rescue the Pāṇḍavas, are fleeing as they are being struck down by Karṇa with sharp arrows.
पाञ्चालान्द्रौपदेयांश्च धृष्टद्युम्नशिखण्डिनौ ।
धृष्टद्युम्नतनूजांश्च शतानीकं च नाकुलिम् ॥९२॥
92. pāñcālāndraupadeyāṁśca dhṛṣṭadyumnaśikhaṇḍinau ,

92. The Pañcālas, the sons of Draupadī, Dhṛṣṭadyumna and Śikhaṇḍin, the sons of Dhṛṣṭadyumna, and Śatānīka, who is Nakula's son.
नकुलं सहदेवं च दुर्मुखं जनमेजयम् ।
सुवर्माणं सात्यकिं च विद्धि कर्णवशं गतान् ॥९३॥
93. nakulaṁ sahadevaṁ ca durmukhaṁ janamejayam ,
suvarmāṇaṁ sātyakiṁ ca viddhi karṇavaśaṁ gatān.

93. Know that Nakula, Sahadeva, Durmukha, Janamejaya, Suvarman, and Sātyaki have all fallen under Karṇa's control.
अभ्याहतानां कर्णेन पाञ्चालानां महारणे ।
श्रूयते निनदो घोरस्त्वद्बन्धूनां परंतप ॥९४॥
94. abhyāhatānāṁ karṇena pāñcālānāṁ mahāraṇe ,
śrūyate ninado ghorastvadbandhūnāṁ paraṁtapa.

94. O tormentor of foes, a terrible cry is heard from your kinsmen, the Pañcālas, who have been assailed by Karṇa in the great battle.
न त्वेव भीताः पाञ्चालाः कथंचित्स्युः पराङ्मुखाः ।
न हि मृत्युं महेष्वासा गणयन्ति महारथाः ॥९५॥
95. na tveva bhītāḥ pāñcālāḥ kathaṁcitsyuḥ parāṅmukhāḥ ,
na hi mṛtyuṁ maheṣvāsā gaṇayanti mahārathāḥ.
95. na tu eva bhītāḥ pāñcālāḥ kathaṃcit syuḥ parāṅmukhāḥ
na hi mṛtyum maheṣvāsāḥ gaṇayanti mahārathāḥ
95. tu eva bhītāḥ pāñcālāḥ kathaṃcit parāṅmukhāḥ na

95. However, even if frightened, the Pañcālas would certainly not turn their backs in any way. For truly, great archers and great charioteers do not regard death.
य एकः पाण्डवीं सेनां शरौघैः समवेष्टयत् ।
तं समासाद्य पाञ्चाला भीष्मं नासन्पराङ्मुखाः ॥९६॥
96. ya ekaḥ pāṇḍavīṁ senāṁ śaraughaiḥ samaveṣṭayat ,
taṁ samāsādya pāñcālā bhīṣmaṁ nāsanparāṅmukhāḥ.

96. The Panchalas, upon confronting Bhishma – who single-handedly enveloped the Pandava army with torrents of arrows – did not turn away.
तथा ज्वलन्तमस्त्राग्निं गुरुं सर्वधनुष्मताम् ।
निर्दहन्तं समारोहन्दुर्धर्षं द्रोणमोजसा ॥९७॥
97. tathā jvalantamastrāgniṁ guruṁ sarvadhanuṣmatām ,
nirdahantaṁ samārohandurdharṣaṁ droṇamojasā.
97. tathā jvalantam astrāgnim gurum sarvadhanuṣmatām
nirdahantam samārohan durdharṣam droṇam ojasā

97. Similarly, with their might, they assailed the invincible Drona, the (guru) teacher of all archers, who was blazing forth like a fire of weapons and consuming (all foes).
ते नित्यमुदिता जेतुं युद्धे शत्रूनरिंदमाः ।
न जात्वाधिरथेर्भीताः पाञ्चालाः स्युः पराङ्मुखाः ॥९८॥
98. te nityamuditā jetuṁ yuddhe śatrūnariṁdamāḥ ,
na jātvādhiratherbhītāḥ pāñcālāḥ syuḥ parāṅmukhāḥ.
98. te nityam uditāḥ jetum yuddhe śatrūn arindamāḥ na
jātu ādhīratheḥ bhītāḥ pāñcālāḥ syuḥ parāṅmukhāḥ
98. te arindamāḥ pāñcālāḥ nityam yuddhe śatrūn jetum uditāḥ,
(ataḥ) ādhīratheḥ bhītāḥ parāṅmukhāḥ jātu na syuḥ
98. Those Panchalas, always eager to conquer their enemies in battle and renowned as subduers of foes, would certainly never be afraid of Adhiratha's son (Karṇa) and turn away from battle.
तेषामापततां शूरः पाञ्चालानां तरस्विनाम् ।
आदत्तेऽसूञ्शरैः कर्णः पतंगानामिवानलः ॥९९॥
99. teṣāmāpatatāṁ śūraḥ pāñcālānāṁ tarasvinām ,
ādatte'sūñśaraiḥ karṇaḥ pataṁgānāmivānalaḥ.
99. teṣām āpatatām śūraḥ pāñcālānām tarasvinām
ādatte asūn śaraiḥ karṇaḥ pataṅgānām iva analaḥ

99. Just as fire consumes the lives (asu) of moths, so brave Karṇa, with his arrows, took away the lives of those mighty Panchalas who were advancing.
तांस्तथाभिमुखान्वीरान्मित्रार्थे त्यक्तजीवितान् ।
क्षयं नयति राधेयः पाञ्चालाञ्शतशो रणे ॥१००॥
100. tāṁstathābhimukhānvīrānmitrārthe tyaktajīvitān ,
kṣayaṁ nayati rādheyaḥ pāñcālāñśataśo raṇe.
100. tān tathā abhimukhān vīrān mitra-arthe tyakta-jīvitān
kṣayam nayati rādheyaḥ pāñcālān śataśaḥ raṇe

100. The son of Rādhā (Rādheya) brings to ruin those brave heroes who stand facing him and have abandoned their lives for the sake of their friend, slaying the Pañcālas in hundreds in battle.
अस्त्रं हि रामात्कर्णेन भार्गवादृषिसत्तमात् ।
यदुपात्तं पुरा घोरं तस्य रूपमुदीर्यते ॥१०१॥
101. astraṁ hi rāmātkarṇena bhārgavādṛṣisattamāt ,
yadupāttaṁ purā ghoraṁ tasya rūpamudīryate.
101. astram hi rāmāt karṇena bhārgavāt ṛṣi-sattamāt
yat upāttam purā ghoram tasya rūpam udīryate
101. hi yat ghoram astram purā karṇena rāmāt bhārgavāt ṛṣi-sattamāt upāttam,

101. Indeed, the dreadful weapon which was formerly acquired by Karna from Rāma (Bhārgava), the foremost of sages, its form is now being described.
तापनं सर्वसैन्यानां घोररूपं सुदारुणम् ।
समावृत्य महासेनां ज्वलति स्वेन तेजसा ॥१०२॥
102. tāpanaṁ sarvasainyānāṁ ghorarūpaṁ sudāruṇam ,
samāvṛtya mahāsenāṁ jvalati svena tejasā.
102. tāpanam sarva-sainyānām ghora-rūpam sudāruṇam
samāvṛtya mahā-senām jvalati svena tejasā
102. sarva-sainyānām tāpanam ghora-rūpam su-dāruṇam

102. Scorching all armies, dreadful in form, and exceedingly terrible, it blazes with its own radiance, having surrounded the great army.
एते चरन्ति संग्रामे कर्णचापच्युताः शराः ।
भ्रमराणामिव व्रातास्तापयन्तः स्म तावकान् ॥१०३॥
103. ete caranti saṁgrāme karṇacāpacyutāḥ śarāḥ ,
bhramarāṇāmiva vrātāstāpayantaḥ sma tāvakān.
103. ete caranti saṃgrāme karṇa-cāpa-cyutāḥ śarāḥ
bhramarāṇām iva vrātāḥ tāpayantaḥ sma tāvakān
103. karṇa-cāpa-cyutāḥ ete śarāḥ saṃgrāme bhramarāṇām
vrātāḥ iva tāvakān tāpayantaḥ sma caranti
103. These arrows, released from Karna's bow, move about in battle like swarms of bees, continually scorching your men.
एते चरन्ति पाञ्चाला दिक्षु सर्वासु भारत ।
कर्णास्त्रं समरे प्राप्य दुर्निवारमनात्मभिः ॥१०४॥
104. ete caranti pāñcālā dikṣu sarvāsu bhārata ,
karṇāstraṁ samare prāpya durnivāramanātmabhiḥ.
104. ete caranti pāñcālāḥ dikṣu sarvāsu bhārata
karṇāstram samare prāpya durnivāram anātmabhiḥ
104. bhārata,

(Te) karṇāstram samare prāpya anātmabhiḥ durnivāram (bhavanti).
104. O Bhārata, these Pañcālas wander in all directions, as Karṇa's weapon, having been obtained in battle, is irresistible by those lacking self-control (ātman).
एष भीमो दृढक्रोधो वृतः पार्थ समन्ततः ।
सृञ्जयैर्योधयन्कर्णं पीड्यते स्म शितैः शरैः ॥१०५॥
105. eṣa bhīmo dṛḍhakrodho vṛtaḥ pārtha samantataḥ ,
sṛñjayairyodhayankarṇaṁ pīḍyate sma śitaiḥ śaraiḥ.
105. eṣaḥ bhīmaḥ dṛḍhakrodhaḥ vṛtaḥ pārtha samantataḥ
sṛñjayaiḥ yodhayann karṇam pīḍyate sma śitaiḥ śaraiḥ
105. pārtha,
eṣaḥ dṛḍhakrodhaḥ bhīmaḥ samantataḥ vṛtaḥ.
(Saḥ) sṛñjayaiḥ karṇam yodhayann śitaiḥ śaraiḥ pīḍyate sma.
105. O Pārtha, this Bhīma, firm in anger, is surrounded on all sides. While fighting Karṇa with the Sṛñjayas, he is being tormented by sharp arrows.
पाण्डवान्सृञ्जयांश्चैव पाञ्चालांश्चैव भारत ।
हन्यादुपेक्षितः कर्णो रोगो देहमिवाततः ॥१०६॥
106. pāṇḍavānsṛñjayāṁścaiva pāñcālāṁścaiva bhārata ,
hanyādupekṣitaḥ karṇo rogo dehamivātataḥ.
106. pāṇḍavān sṛñjayān ca eva pāñcālān ca eva bhārata
hanyāt upekṣitaḥ karṇaḥ rogaḥ deham iva ātataḥ
106. bhārata,
upekṣitaḥ karṇaḥ pāṇḍavān sṛñjayān ca eva pāñcālān ca eva hanyāt,
ātataḥ rogaḥ deham iva.
106. O Bhārata, if Karṇa is neglected, he would destroy the Pāṇḍavas, the Sṛñjayas, and the Pañcālas, just as an unchecked disease destroys the body.
नान्यं त्वत्तोऽभिपश्यामि योधं यौधिष्ठिरे बले ।
यः समासाद्य राधेयं स्वस्तिमानाव्रजेद्गृहम् ॥१०७॥
107. nānyaṁ tvatto'bhipaśyāmi yodhaṁ yaudhiṣṭhire bale ,
yaḥ samāsādya rādheyaṁ svastimānāvrajedgṛham.
107. na anyam tvattaḥ abhipaśyāmi yodham yaudhiṣṭhire
bale yaḥ samāsādya rādheyam svastimān āvrajet gṛham
107. yaudhiṣṭhire bale tvattaḥ anyam yodham na abhipaśyāmi,
yaḥ rādheyam samāsādya svastimān gṛham āvrajet.
107. In Yudhiṣṭhira's army, I do not see any other warrior besides you who, having encountered Rādhā's son (Karṇa), would return home safely.
तमद्य निशितैर्बाणैर्निहत्य भरतर्षभ ।
यथाप्रतिज्ञं पार्थ त्वं कृत्वा कीर्तिमवाप्नुहि ॥१०८॥
108. tamadya niśitairbāṇairnihatya bharatarṣabha ,
yathāpratijñaṁ pārtha tvaṁ kṛtvā kīrtimavāpnuhi.
108. tam adya niśitaiḥ bāṇaiḥ nihatya bharatarṣabha
yathāpratijñam pārtha tvam kṛtvā kīrtim avāpnuhi
108. bharatarṣabha pārtha tvam adya niśitaiḥ bāṇaiḥ

108. O best among the Bharatas (bharatarṣabha), O son of Pṛthā (pārtha), having killed him today with sharp arrows and having fulfilled your vow, may you achieve great renown.
त्वं हि शक्तो रणे जेतुं सकर्णानपि कौरवान् ।
नान्यो युधि युधां श्रेष्ठ सत्यमेतद्ब्रवीमि ते ॥१०९॥
109. tvaṁ hi śakto raṇe jetuṁ sakarṇānapi kauravān ,
nānyo yudhi yudhāṁ śreṣṭha satyametadbravīmi te.
109. tvam hi śaktaḥ raṇe jetum sakarṇān api kauravān na
anyaḥ yudhi yudhām śreṣṭha satyam etat bravīmi te
109. yudhām śreṣṭha,
tvam hi raṇe sakarṇān kauravān api jetum śaktaḥ.

etat satyam te bravīmi.
109. Indeed, you are capable of conquering the Kauravas, even including Karna, in battle. There is no other warrior in battle (yudhi yudhām śreṣṭha), O best of warriors; I tell you this truth.
एतत्कृत्वा महत्कर्म हत्वा कर्णं महारथम् ।
कृतार्थः सफलः पार्थ सुखी भव नरोत्तम ॥११०॥
110. etatkṛtvā mahatkarma hatvā karṇaṁ mahāratham ,
kṛtārthaḥ saphalaḥ pārtha sukhī bhava narottama.
110. etat kṛtvā mahat karma hatvā karṇam mahāratham
kṛtārthaḥ saphalaḥ pārtha sukhī bhava narottama

110. Having performed this great action (karma) by killing Karna, the great warrior, O son of Pṛthā (pārtha), be successful, fulfilled, and happy, O best among men (narottama).
