वैशंपायन उवाच ।
ततस्तथोक्तः परिहृष्टरूपः पित्रे शशंसाथ स राजपुत्रः ।
धृष्टद्युम्नः सोमकानां प्रबर्हो वृत्तं यथा येन हृता च कृष्णा ॥१॥
1. vaiśaṁpāyana uvāca ,
tatastathoktaḥ parihṛṣṭarūpaḥ; pitre śaśaṁsātha sa rājaputraḥ ,
dhṛṣṭadyumnaḥ somakānāṁ prabarho; vṛttaṁ yathā yena hṛtā ca kṛṣṇā.
1. vaiśaṃpāyana uvāca tataḥ tathā uktaḥ
parihṛṣṭarūpaḥ pitre śasaṃsā atha sa
rājaputraḥ dhṛṣṭadyumnaḥ somakānām
prabarhaḥ vṛttam yathā yena hṛtā ca kṛṣṇā
1. Vaiśampāyana said: Then, thus addressed, that prince, Dhṛṣṭadyumna, the chief of the Somakas, with a joyful appearance, reported to his father exactly what had happened and by whom Kṛṣṇā (Draupadī) had been won.
योऽसौ युवा स्वायतलोहिताक्षः कृष्णाजिनी देवसमानरूपः ।
यः कार्मुकाग्र्यं कृतवानधिज्यं लक्ष्यं च तत्पातितवान्पृथिव्याम् ॥२॥
2. yo'sau yuvā svāyatalohitākṣaḥ; kṛṣṇājinī devasamānarūpaḥ ,
yaḥ kārmukāgryaṁ kṛtavānadhijyaṁ; lakṣyaṁ ca tatpātitavānpṛthivyām.
2. yaḥ asau yuvā svāyatalohitākṣaḥ
kṛṣṇājinī devasamānarūpaḥ yaḥ
kārmukāgryam kṛtavān adhijyam
lakṣyam ca tat pātitavān pṛthivyām
2. That young man, with naturally long, reddish eyes, and clad in a black deer skin, resembled a god in appearance. He strung an excellent bow and brought down that target to the ground.
असज्जमानश्च गतस्तरस्वी वृतो द्विजाग्र्यैरभिपूज्यमानः ।
चक्राम वज्रीव दितेः सुतेषु सर्वैश्च देवैरृषिभिश्च जुष्टः ॥३॥
3. asajjamānaśca gatastarasvī; vṛto dvijāgryairabhipūjyamānaḥ ,
cakrāma vajrīva diteḥ suteṣu; sarvaiśca devairṛṣibhiśca juṣṭaḥ.
3. asajjamānaḥ ca gataḥ tarasvī vṛtaḥ
dvijāgryaiḥ abhipūjyamānaḥ
cakrāma vajrī iva diteḥ suteṣu
sarvaiḥ ca devaiḥ ṛṣibhiḥ ca juṣṭaḥ
3. And moving swiftly and unhindered, he advanced, revered and surrounded by eminent brahmins. He moved among the sons of Diti (asuras) like Indra (vajrī) wielding his thunderbolt, attended by all the gods and sages.
कृष्णा च गृह्याजिनमन्वयात्तं नागं यथा नागवधूः प्रहृष्टा ।
अमृष्यमाणेषु नराधिपेषु क्रुद्धेषु तं तत्र समापतत्सु ॥४॥
4. kṛṣṇā ca gṛhyājinamanvayāttaṁ; nāgaṁ yathā nāgavadhūḥ prahṛṣṭā ,
amṛṣyamāṇeṣu narādhipeṣu; kruddheṣu taṁ tatra samāpatatsu.
4. kṛṣṇā ca gṛhya ajinam anvayāt
tam nāgam yathā nāgavadhūḥ
prahṛṣṭā amṛṣyamāṇeṣu narādhipeṣu
kruddheṣu tam tatra samāpatatsu
4. And Draupadi (Krishnaa), taking the deer skin, followed him, just as a joyful nāga woman follows her nāga (serpent-husband). Meanwhile, the kings, unable to tolerate this and filled with anger, rushed towards him there.
ततोऽपरः पार्थिवराजमध्ये प्रवृद्धमारुज्य महीप्ररोहम् ।
प्रकालयन्नेव स पार्थिवौघान्क्रुद्धोऽन्तकः प्राणभृतो यथैव ॥५॥
5. tato'paraḥ pārthivarājamadhye; pravṛddhamārujya mahīpraroham ,
prakālayanneva sa pārthivaughā;nkruddho'ntakaḥ prāṇabhṛto yathaiva.
5. tataḥ aparaḥ pārthivarājamadhye
pravṛddham ārujya mahīpraroham
prakālayan eva sa pārthivaughān kruddhaḥ
antakaḥ prāṇabhṛtaḥ yathā eva
5. Then, another man, standing amidst the kings, uprooted a large tree and, indeed, proceeded to shake and disturb the throngs of monarchs, just as an enraged god of death (antaka) overwhelms living beings.
तौ पार्थिवानां मिषतां नरेन्द्र कृष्णामुपादाय गतौ नराग्र्यौ ।
विभ्राजमानाविव चन्द्रसूर्यौ बाह्यां पुराद्भार्गवकर्मशालाम् ॥६॥
6. tau pārthivānāṁ miṣatāṁ narendra; kṛṣṇāmupādāya gatau narāgryau ,
vibhrājamānāviva candrasūryau; bāhyāṁ purādbhārgavakarmaśālām.

6. O King, while the monarchs watched, those two eminent men, taking Draupadi (Krishnaa), departed. They went, shining like the moon and the sun, to Bhargava's outer workshop, located outside the city.
तत्रोपविष्टार्चिरिवानलस्य तेषां जनित्रीति मम प्रतर्कः ।
तथाविधैरेव नरप्रवीरैरुपोपविष्टैस्त्रिभिरग्निकल्पैः ॥७॥
7. tatropaviṣṭārcirivānalasya; teṣāṁ janitrīti mama pratarkaḥ ,
tathāvidhaireva narapravīrai;rupopaviṣṭaistribhiragnikalpaiḥ.

teṣām janitrī iti mama pratarkaḥ
tathāvidhaiḥ eva narapravīraiḥ
upopaviṣṭaiḥ tribhiḥ agnikalpaiḥ
7. Seated there, shining like a flame of fire, she is their mother - this is my conjecture. They were accompanied by three heroic men, seated nearby, who were themselves like fire.
तस्यास्ततस्तावभिवाद्य पादावुक्त्वा च कृष्णामभिवादयेति ।
स्थितौ च तत्रैव निवेद्य कृष्णां भैक्षप्रचाराय गता नराग्र्याः ॥८॥
8. tasyāstatastāvabhivādya pādā;vuktvā ca kṛṣṇāmabhivādayeti ,
sthitau ca tatraiva nivedya kṛṣṇāṁ; bhaikṣapracārāya gatā narāgryāḥ.

uktvā ca kṛṣṇām abhivādaya iti
sthitau ca tatra eva nivedya kṛṣṇām
bhaikṣapracārāya gatāḥ narāgryāḥ
8. Having then saluted her feet and saying, 'We greet Kṛṣṇā,' the chief men (Pāṇḍavas) then remained there, informed Kṛṣṇā, and went for their alms (bhaikṣa) rounds.
तेषां तु भैक्षं प्रतिगृह्य कृष्णा कृत्वा बलिं ब्राह्मणसाच्च कृत्वा ।
तां चैव वृद्धां परिविष्य तांश्च नरप्रवीरान्स्वयमप्यभुङ्क्त ॥९॥
9. teṣāṁ tu bhaikṣaṁ pratigṛhya kṛṣṇā; kṛtvā baliṁ brāhmaṇasācca kṛtvā ,
tāṁ caiva vṛddhāṁ pariviṣya tāṁśca; narapravīrānsvayamapyabhuṅkta.
9. teṣām tu bhaikṣam pratigṛhya kṛṣṇā
kṛtvā balim brāhmaṇasāt ca kṛtvā
tām ca eva vṛddhām pariviṣya tān
ca narapravīrān svayam api abhukta
9. Kṛṣṇā, after receiving their alms (bhaikṣa) and making an offering to the Brahmins, then served that elderly woman and those heroic men, and she herself also ate.
सुप्तास्तु ते पार्थिव सर्व एव कृष्णा तु तेषां चरणोपधानम् ।
आसीत्पृथिव्यां शयनं च तेषां दर्भाजिनाग्र्यास्तरणोपपन्नम् ॥१०॥
10. suptāstu te pārthiva sarva eva; kṛṣṇā tu teṣāṁ caraṇopadhānam ,
āsītpṛthivyāṁ śayanaṁ ca teṣāṁ; darbhājināgryāstaraṇopapannam.
10. suptāḥ tu te pārthiva sarve eva
kṛṣṇā tu teṣām caraṇopadhānam
āsīt pṛthivyām śayanam ca
teṣām darbhavarājināstaraṇopapannam
10. But, O King, all of them were asleep, and Kṛṣṇā served as their footrest. Their bed on the ground was furnished with excellent darbha grass and deer skins.
ते नर्दमाना इव कालमेघाः कथा विचित्राः कथयां बभूवुः ।
न वैश्यशूद्रौपयिकीः कथास्ता न च द्विजातेः कथयन्ति वीराः ॥११॥
11. te nardamānā iva kālameghāḥ; kathā vicitrāḥ kathayāṁ babhūvuḥ ,
na vaiśyaśūdraupayikīḥ kathāstā; na ca dvijāteḥ kathayanti vīrāḥ.
11. te nardamānāḥ iva kālameghāḥ
kathāḥ vicitrāḥ kathayām babhūvuḥ
na vaiśyaśūdropayikīḥ kathāḥ
tāḥ na ca dvijāteḥ kathayanti vīrāḥ
11. Like thundering storm clouds, they told various wonderful stories. These were not tales suitable for Vaiśyas or Śūdras, nor do the heroes tell (such tales) to a twice-born (dvijāti).
निःसंशयं क्षत्रियपुंगवास्ते यथा हि युद्धं कथयन्ति राजन् ।
आशा हि नो व्यक्तमियं समृद्धा मुक्तान्हि पार्थाञ्शृणुमोऽग्निदाहात् ॥१२॥
12. niḥsaṁśayaṁ kṣatriyapuṁgavāste; yathā hi yuddhaṁ kathayanti rājan ,
āśā hi no vyaktamiyaṁ samṛddhā; muktānhi pārthāñśṛṇumo'gnidāhāt.
12. niḥsaṃśayam kṣatriyapuṅgavāḥ te
yathā hi yuddham kathayanti rājan |
āśā hi naḥ vyaktam iyam samṛddhā
muktān hi pārthān śṛṇumaḥ agnidāhāt
12. O King, undoubtedly these foremost among warriors (kṣatriyapuṅgavāḥ) speak of warfare as it truly is. Indeed, our hope is clearly well-founded, for we hear that the Pārthas were released from the fire (agnidāha).
यथा हि लक्ष्यं निहतं धनुश्च सज्यं कृतं तेन तथा प्रसह्य ।
यथा च भाषन्ति परस्परं ते छन्ना ध्रुवं ते प्रचरन्ति पार्थाः ॥१३॥
13. yathā hi lakṣyaṁ nihataṁ dhanuśca; sajyaṁ kṛtaṁ tena tathā prasahya ,
yathā ca bhāṣanti parasparaṁ te; channā dhruvaṁ te pracaranti pārthāḥ.
13. yathā hi lakṣyam nihatam dhanuḥ ca
sajyam kṛtam tena tathā prasahya
| yathā ca bhāṣanti parasparam te
channāḥ dhruvam te pracaranti pārthāḥ
13. Indeed, it is as if the target was struck and the bow was strung by him with great force. And just as they speak among themselves, it is certain that these Pārthas are moving about in disguise.
ततः स राजा द्रुपदः प्रहृष्टः पुरोहितं प्रेषयां तत्र चक्रे ।
विद्याम युष्मानिति भाषमाणो महात्मनः पाण्डुसुताः स्थ कच्चित् ॥१४॥
14. tataḥ sa rājā drupadaḥ prahṛṣṭaḥ; purohitaṁ preṣayāṁ tatra cakre ,
vidyāma yuṣmāniti bhāṣamāṇo; mahātmanaḥ pāṇḍusutāḥ stha kaccit.
14. tataḥ sa rājā drupadaḥ prahṛṣṭaḥ
purohitam preṣayām tatra cakre
| vidyāma yuṣmān iti bhāṣamāṇaḥ
mahātmanaḥ pāṇḍusutāḥ stha kaccit
14. Then King Drupada, greatly delighted, sent his priest there. Speaking to them, he said: 'May we come to know you. Are you perhaps the noble (mahātman) sons of Pāṇḍu?'
गृहीतवाक्यो नृपतेः पुरोधा गत्वा प्रशंसामभिधाय तेषाम् ।
वाक्यं यथावन्नृपतेः समग्रमुवाच तान्स क्रमवित्क्रमेण ॥१५॥
15. gṛhītavākyo nṛpateḥ purodhā; gatvā praśaṁsāmabhidhāya teṣām ,
vākyaṁ yathāvannṛpateḥ samagra;muvāca tānsa kramavitkrameṇa.
15. gṛhītavākyaḥ nṛpateḥ purodhā
gatvā praśaṃsām abhidhāya teṣām |
vākyam yathāvat nṛpateḥ samagram
uvāca tān sa kramavit krameṇa
15. The king's priest (purodhā), having taken his instructions, went and, after offering praise to them, that expert in procedure (kramavit) then delivered the king's complete message to them properly and in due order.
विज्ञातुमिच्छत्यवनीश्वरो वः पाञ्चालराजो द्रुपदो वरार्हाः ।
लक्ष्यस्य वेद्धारमिमं हि दृष्ट्वा हर्षस्य नान्तं परिपश्यते सः ॥१६॥
16. vijñātumicchatyavanīśvaro vaḥ; pāñcālarājo drupado varārhāḥ ,
lakṣyasya veddhāramimaṁ hi dṛṣṭvā; harṣasya nāntaṁ paripaśyate saḥ.
16. vijñātum icchati avanīśvaraḥ vaḥ
pāñcālarājaḥ drupadaḥ varārhāḥ |
lakṣyasya veddhāram imam hi dṛṣṭvā
harṣasya na antam paripaśyate saḥ
16. The lord of the earth (avanīśvara), King Drupada of Pañcāla, desires to know you, who are certainly worthy of excellent things. Indeed, having seen this one who pierced the target, he finds no end to his joy.
तदाचड्ढ्वं ज्ञातिकुलानुपूर्वीं पदं शिरःसु द्विषतां कुरुध्वम् ।
प्रह्लादयध्वं हृदयं ममेदं पाञ्चालराजस्य सहानुगस्य ॥१७॥
17. tadācaḍḍhvaṁ jñātikulānupūrvīṁ; padaṁ śiraḥsu dviṣatāṁ kurudhvam ,
prahlādayadhvaṁ hṛdayaṁ mamedaṁ; pāñcālarājasya sahānugasya.
17. tadā ācaḍḍhvaṃ jñātikulānupūrvīṃ
padaṃ śiraḥsu dviṣatām kurudhvam
prahlādayadhvaṃ hṛdayam mama
idam pāñcālarājasya saha anugasya
17. Therefore, declare your noble lineage, place your feet upon the heads of your enemies, and gladden this heart of mine, along with that of the King of Pāñcāla and his retinue.
पाण्डुर्हि राजा द्रुपदस्य राज्ञः प्रियः सखा चात्मसमो बभूव ।
तस्यैष कामो दुहिता ममेयं स्नुषा यदि स्यादिति कौरवस्य ॥१८॥
18. pāṇḍurhi rājā drupadasya rājñaḥ; priyaḥ sakhā cātmasamo babhūva ,
tasyaiṣa kāmo duhitā mameyaṁ; snuṣā yadi syāditi kauravasya.
18. pāṇḍuḥ hi rājā drupadásya rājñaḥ
priyaḥ sakhā ca ātmasamaḥ babhūva
tasya eṣa kāmaḥ duhitā mama
iyam snuṣā yadi syāt iti kauravasya
18. King Pāṇḍu was indeed a dear friend of King Drupada, and like his own self (ātman). This was Drupada's desire: 'If this daughter of mine were to become the daughter-in-law of a Kuru.'
अयं च कामो द्रुपदस्य राज्ञो हृदि स्थितो नित्यमनिन्दिताङ्गाः ।
यदर्जुनो वै पृथुदीर्घबाहुर्धर्मेण विन्देत सुतां ममेति ॥१९॥
19. ayaṁ ca kāmo drupadasya rājño; hṛdi sthito nityamaninditāṅgāḥ ,
yadarjuno vai pṛthudīrghabāhu;rdharmeṇa vindeta sutāṁ mameti.
19. ayam ca kāmaḥ drupadásya rājñaḥ
hṛdi sthitaḥ nityam aninditāṅgāḥ
yat arjunaḥ vai pṛthudīrghabāhuḥ
dharmeṇa vindeta sutām mama iti
19. And this desire of King Drupada's always remained in his heart, O you whose limbs are blameless: that Arjuna, indeed, the broad- and long-armed, should obtain my daughter according to natural law (dharma).
तथोक्तवाक्यं तु पुरोहितं तं स्थितं विनीतं समुदीक्ष्य राजा ।
समीपस्थं भीममिदं शशास प्रदीयतां पाद्यमर्घ्यं तथास्मै ॥२०॥
20. tathoktavākyaṁ tu purohitaṁ taṁ; sthitaṁ vinītaṁ samudīkṣya rājā ,
samīpasthaṁ bhīmamidaṁ śaśāsa; pradīyatāṁ pādyamarghyaṁ tathāsmai.
20. tathā uktavākyam tu purohitam tam
sthitam vinītam samudīkṣya rājā
samīpastham bhīmam idam śaśāsa
pradīyatām pādyam arghyam tathā asmai
20. Having observed that priest (purohita), who had thus spoken and was standing humbly, the king then commanded Bhima, who was standing nearby: 'Let foot-water (pādya) and respectful offering (arghya) also be given to him.'
मान्यः पुरोधा द्रुपदस्य राज्ञस्तस्मै प्रयोज्याभ्यधिकैव पूजा ।
भीमस्तथा तत्कृतवान्नरेन्द्र तां चैव पूजां प्रतिसंगृहीत्वा ॥२१॥
21. mānyaḥ purodhā drupadasya rājña;stasmai prayojyābhyadhikaiva pūjā ,
bhīmastathā tatkṛtavānnarendra; tāṁ caiva pūjāṁ pratisaṁgṛhītvā.
21. mānyaḥ purodhāḥ drupadásya rājñaḥ
tasmai prayojyā abhyadhikā eva pūjā
bhīmaḥ tathā tat kṛtavān narendra
tām ca eva pūjām pratisaṃgṛhītvā
21. The priest (purodhā) of King Drupada is indeed honorable; therefore, special honor should be offered to him. O King, Bhima indeed performed that, having accepted that honor.
सुखोपविष्टं तु पुरोहितं तं युधिष्ठिरो ब्राह्मणमित्युवाच ।
पाञ्चालराजेन सुता निसृष्टा स्वधर्मदृष्टेन यथानुकामम् ॥२२॥
22. sukhopaviṣṭaṁ tu purohitaṁ taṁ; yudhiṣṭhiro brāhmaṇamityuvāca ,
pāñcālarājena sutā nisṛṣṭā; svadharmadṛṣṭena yathānukāmam.
22. sukha upaviṣṭam tu purohitam tam
yudhiṣṭhiraḥ brāhmaṇam iti
uvāca pāñcālarājena sutā nisṛṣṭā
svadharmadṛṣṭena yathā anukāmam
22. Yudhiṣṭhira then spoke to that comfortably seated priest, the Brahmin, saying: 'The daughter has been given away by the king of Pañcāla, in accordance with his understanding of his intrinsic nature (svadharma), as he wished.'
प्रदिष्टशुल्का द्रुपदेन राज्ञा सानेन वीरेण तथानुवृत्ता ।
न तत्र वर्णेषु कृता विवक्षा न जीवशिल्पे न कुले न गोत्रे ॥२३॥
23. pradiṣṭaśulkā drupadena rājñā; sānena vīreṇa tathānuvṛttā ,
na tatra varṇeṣu kṛtā vivakṣā; na jīvaśilpe na kule na gotre.
23. pradiṣṭa śulkā drupadena rājñā
sā anena vīreṇa tathā anuvṛttā
na tatra varṇeṣu kṛtā vivakṣā
na jīvaśilpe na kule na gotre
23. The condition (śulka) was stipulated by King Drupada, and she was accordingly sought by this hero. In that contest, no distinction was made based on social classes (varṇa), nor on professions, nor on family lineage, nor on clan (gotra).
कृतेन सज्येन हि कार्मुकेण विद्धेन लक्ष्येण च संनिसृष्टा ।
सेयं तथानेन महात्मनेह कृष्णा जिता पार्थिवसंघमध्ये ॥२४॥
24. kṛtena sajyena hi kārmukeṇa; viddhena lakṣyeṇa ca saṁnisṛṣṭā ,
seyaṁ tathānena mahātmaneha; kṛṣṇā jitā pārthivasaṁghamadhye.
24. kṛtena sajyena hi kārmukeṇa
viddhena lakṣyeṇa ca sam nisṛṣṭā sā
iyam tathā anena mahātmanā iha
kṛṣṇā jitā pārthivasaṅgha madhye
24. Indeed, with the bow strung and the target pierced, she was thus given away. This Kṛṣṇā (Draupadī) was won here by this great-souled one (mahātman) among the assembly of kings.
नैवंगते सौमकिरद्य राजा संतापमर्हत्यसुखाय कर्तुम् ।
कामश्च योऽसौ द्रुपदस्य राज्ञः स चापि संपत्स्यति पार्थिवस्य ॥२५॥
25. naivaṁgate saumakiradya rājā; saṁtāpamarhatyasukhāya kartum ,
kāmaśca yo'sau drupadasya rājñaḥ; sa cāpi saṁpatsyati pārthivasya.
25. na evam gate saumakiḥ adya rājā
saṃtāpam arhati asukhāya kartum
kāmaḥ ca yaḥ asau drupadasya rājñaḥ
saḥ ca api saṃpatsyati pārthivasya
25. Therefore, under these circumstances, King Saumaki (Drupada) should not today cause distress that leads to unhappiness. Furthermore, whatever desire (kāma) King Drupada has, that too will certainly be fulfilled for this king (Pārthiva).
अप्राप्यरूपां हि नरेन्द्रकन्यामिमामहं ब्राह्मण साधु मन्ये ।
न तद्धनुर्मन्दबलेन शक्यं मौर्व्या समायोजयितुं तथा हि ।
न चाकृतास्त्रेण न हीनजेन लक्ष्यं तथा पातयितुं हि शक्यम् ॥२६॥
26. aprāpyarūpāṁ hi narendrakanyā;mimāmahaṁ brāhmaṇa sādhu manye ,
na taddhanurmandabalena śakyaṁ; maurvyā samāyojayituṁ tathā hi ,
na cākṛtāstreṇa na hīnajena; lakṣyaṁ tathā pātayituṁ hi śakyam.
26. aprāpya rūpām hi narendra kanyām imām aham brāhmaṇa
sādhu manye na tat dhanuḥ manda balena śakyam
maurvyā samāyojayitum tathā hi na ca akṛta astreṇa
na hi hīnajena lakṣyam tathā pātayitum hi śakyam
26. O Brahmin, I truly consider this princess, whose beauty (rūpa) is difficult to attain, to be rightly won. For that bow cannot be strung with its bowstring by one of weak strength. Nor, indeed, can the target be struck in that manner by one unskilled in weaponry, nor by one of inferior birth.
तस्मान्न तापं दुहितुर्निमित्तं पाञ्चालराजोऽर्हति कर्तुमद्य ।
न चापि तत्पातनमन्यथेह कर्तुं विषह्यं भुवि मानवेन ॥२७॥
27. tasmānna tāpaṁ duhiturnimittaṁ; pāñcālarājo'rhati kartumadya ,
na cāpi tatpātanamanyatheha; kartuṁ viṣahyaṁ bhuvi mānavena.
27. tasmāt na tāpam duhituḥ nimittam
pāñcālarājaḥ arhati kartum adya
na ca api tatpātanam anyathā iha
kartum viṣahyam bhuvi mānavena
27. Therefore, the King of Pañcāla should not feel distress on account of his daughter today. Nor, indeed, is it possible for any human being on earth to cause her downfall otherwise.
एवं ब्रुवत्येव युधिष्ठिरे तु पाञ्चालराजस्य समीपतोऽन्यः ।
तत्राजगामाशु नरो द्वितीयो निवेदयिष्यन्निह सिद्धमन्नम् ॥२८॥
28. evaṁ bruvatyeva yudhiṣṭhire tu; pāñcālarājasya samīpato'nyaḥ ,
tatrājagāmāśu naro dvitīyo; nivedayiṣyanniha siddhamannam.
28. evam bruvati eva yudhiṣṭhire tu
pāñcālarājasya samīpataḥ anyaḥ
tatra ājagāma āśu naraḥ dvitīyaḥ
nivedayiṣyan iha siddham annam
28. While Yudhiṣṭhira was speaking thus, another man, a second one, quickly arrived there from the vicinity of the King of Pañcāla, intending to announce that the food was ready here.
