वैशंपायन उवाच ।
एवमुक्तास्तु ते पार्था यमौ च पुरुषर्षभौ ।
द्रौपद्या कृष्णया सार्धं नमश्चक्रुर्जनार्दनम् ॥१॥
1. vaiśaṁpāyana uvāca ,
evamuktāstu te pārthā yamau ca puruṣarṣabhau ,
draupadyā kṛṣṇayā sārdhaṁ namaścakrurjanārdanam.
1. vaiśampāyana uvāca | evam uktāḥ tu te pārthāḥ yamau ca
puruṣarṣabhau | draupadyā kṛṣṇayā sārdham namaḥ cakruḥ janārdanam
1. Vaiśampāyana said: Thus addressed, those Pārthas and the two Yamas, foremost among men, together with Draupadī (Kṛṣṇā), bowed to Janārdana.
स चैतान्पुरुषव्याघ्र साम्ना परमवल्गुना ।
सान्त्वयामास मानार्हान्मन्यमानो यथाविधि ॥२॥
2. sa caitānpuruṣavyāghra sāmnā paramavalgunā ,
sāntvayāmāsa mānārhānmanyamāno yathāvidhi.
2. saḥ ca etān puruṣavyāghraḥ sāmnā parama-valgunā
| sāntvayām āsa mānārhan manyamānaḥ yathāvidhi
2. And he (Janārdana), that tiger among men, consoled them - who were worthy of honor - with exceedingly gentle words, treating them with due respect.
युधिष्ठिरस्तु कौन्तेयो मार्कण्डेयं महामुनिम् ।
पुनः पप्रच्छ साम्राज्ये भविष्यां जगतो गतिम् ॥३॥
3. yudhiṣṭhirastu kaunteyo mārkaṇḍeyaṁ mahāmunim ,
punaḥ papraccha sāmrājye bhaviṣyāṁ jagato gatim.
3. yudhiṣṭhiraḥ tu kaunteyaḥ mārkaṇḍeyam mahāmuniṃ |
punaḥ papraccha sāmrājye bhaviṣyām jagataḥ gatim
3. But Yudhiṣṭhira, the son of Kuntī, again asked Mārkaṇḍeya, the great sage, about the future state of the world regarding sovereignty.
आश्चर्यभूतं भवतः श्रुतं नो वदतां वर ।
मुने भार्गव यद्वृत्तं युगादौ प्रभवाप्ययौ ॥४॥
4. āścaryabhūtaṁ bhavataḥ śrutaṁ no vadatāṁ vara ,
mune bhārgava yadvṛttaṁ yugādau prabhavāpyayau.
4. āścaryabhūtam bhavataḥ śrutam naḥ vadatām vara |
mune bhārgava yat vṛttam yugādau prabhavāpyayau
4. O best of speakers, O sage, descendant of Bhṛgu, we have heard from you (your narration of) the marvelous events that occurred at the beginning of the cosmic age (yuga), concerning creation and dissolution.
अस्मिन्कलियुगेऽप्यस्ति पुनः कौतूहलं मम ।
समाकुलेषु धर्मेषु किं नु शेषं भविष्यति ॥५॥
5. asminkaliyuge'pyasti punaḥ kautūhalaṁ mama ,
samākuleṣu dharmeṣu kiṁ nu śeṣaṁ bhaviṣyati.
5. asmin kaliyuge api asti punaḥ kautūhalam mama
samākuleṣu dharmeṣu kim nu śeṣam bhaviṣyati
5. Even in this Kali Yuga, I still have curiosity. What will remain when the natural laws (dharma) are completely disturbed?
किंवीर्या मानवास्तत्र किमाहारविहारिणः ।
किमायुषः किंवसना भविष्यन्ति युगक्षये ॥६॥
6. kiṁvīryā mānavāstatra kimāhāravihāriṇaḥ ,
kimāyuṣaḥ kiṁvasanā bhaviṣyanti yugakṣaye.
6. kimvīryāḥ mānavāḥ tatra kimāhāravihāriṇaḥ
kimāyuṣaḥ kimvasanāḥ bhaviṣyanti yugakṣaye
6. What will be the vitality of humans then? What will be their food and activities? What will be their lifespan and their clothing at the decline of the age?
कां च काष्ठां समासाद्य पुनः संपत्स्यते कृतम् ।
विस्तरेण मुने ब्रूहि विचित्राणीह भाषसे ॥७॥
7. kāṁ ca kāṣṭhāṁ samāsādya punaḥ saṁpatsyate kṛtam ,
vistareṇa mune brūhi vicitrāṇīha bhāṣase.
7. kām ca kāṣṭhām samāsādya punaḥ sampatsyate
kṛtam vistareṇa mune brūhi vicitrāṇi iha bhāṣase
7. And reaching what ultimate stage (kāṣṭhā) will the Kṛta Yuga be restored again? O sage, please speak in detail, for you speak of many wonderful things here.
इत्युक्तः स मुनिश्रेष्ठः पुनरेवाभ्यभाषत ।
रमयन्वृष्णिशार्दूलं पाण्डवांश्च महामुनिः ॥८॥
8. ityuktaḥ sa muniśreṣṭhaḥ punarevābhyabhāṣata ,
ramayanvṛṣṇiśārdūlaṁ pāṇḍavāṁśca mahāmuniḥ.
8. iti uktaḥ sa muniśreṣṭhaḥ punaḥ eva abhyabhāṣata
ramayan vṛṣṇiśārdūlam pāṇḍavān ca mahāmuniḥ
8. Thus addressed, that eminent sage (the great sage) spoke again, delighting the foremost of the Vṛṣṇis and also the Pāṇḍavas.
मार्कण्डेय उवाच ।
भविष्यं सर्वलोकस्य वृत्तान्तं भरतर्षभ ।
कलुषं कालमासाद्य कथ्यमानं निबोध मे ॥९॥
9. mārkaṇḍeya uvāca ,
bhaviṣyaṁ sarvalokasya vṛttāntaṁ bharatarṣabha ,
kaluṣaṁ kālamāsādya kathyamānaṁ nibodha me.
9. mārkaṇḍeyaḥ uvāca bhaviṣyam sarvalokasya vṛttāntam
bharatarṣabha kaluṣam kālam āsādya kathyamānam nibodha me
9. Mārkaṇḍeya said: O best among the Bhāratas, listen to me as I narrate this account of the future of all beings, which is revealed as the corrupt age (kālam) approaches.
कृते चतुष्पात्सकलो निर्व्याजोपाधिवर्जितः ।
वृषः प्रतिष्ठितो धर्मो मनुष्येष्वभवत्पुरा ॥१०॥
10. kṛte catuṣpātsakalo nirvyājopādhivarjitaḥ ,
vṛṣaḥ pratiṣṭhito dharmo manuṣyeṣvabhavatpurā.
10. kṛte catuṣpāt sakalaḥ nirvyājopādhivarjitaḥ
vṛṣaḥ pratiṣṭhitaḥ dharmaḥ manuṣyeṣu abhavat purā
10. In the Kṛta age, natural law (dharma) was fully established among humans, like a bull with four feet, complete, and free from deceit or artificial conditions. This is how it existed in ancient times.
अधर्मपादविद्धस्तु त्रिभिरंशैः प्रतिष्ठितः ।
त्रेतायां द्वापरेऽर्धेन व्यामिश्रो धर्म उच्यते ॥११॥
11. adharmapādaviddhastu tribhiraṁśaiḥ pratiṣṭhitaḥ ,
tretāyāṁ dvāpare'rdhena vyāmiśro dharma ucyate.
11. adharmapādaviddhaḥ tu tribhiḥ aṃśaiḥ pratiṣṭhitaḥ
tretāyām dvāpare ardhena vyāmiśraḥ dharmaḥ ucyate
11. However, in the Tretā age, natural law (dharma) became established with only three parts, as it was afflicted by one 'foot' of unrighteousness (adharma). In the Dvāpara age, natural law (dharma) is said to be mixed by half (with unrighteousness).
त्रिभिरंशैरधर्मस्तु लोकानाक्रम्य तिष्ठति ।
चतुर्थांशेन धर्मस्तु मनुष्यानुपतिष्ठति ॥१२॥
12. tribhiraṁśairadharmastu lokānākramya tiṣṭhati ,
caturthāṁśena dharmastu manuṣyānupatiṣṭhati.
12. tribhiḥ aṃśaiḥ adharmaḥ tu lokān ākramya tiṣṭhati
caturthāṃśena dharmaḥ tu manuṣyān upatiṣṭhati
12. But unrighteousness (adharma) prevails by three parts, having seized control of the worlds. Natural law (dharma), on the other hand, stands by humanity with only a fourth part.
आयुर्वीर्यमथो बुद्धिर्बलं तेजश्च पाण्डव ।
मनुष्याणामनुयुगं ह्रसतीति निबोध मे ॥१३॥
13. āyurvīryamatho buddhirbalaṁ tejaśca pāṇḍava ,
manuṣyāṇāmanuyugaṁ hrasatīti nibodha me.
13. āyuḥ vīryam atha u buddhiḥ balam tejaḥ ca pāṇḍava
manuṣyāṇām anuyugam hrasati iti nibodha me
13. O Pāṇḍava, understand from me that the life span, vitality, intelligence, strength, and brilliance of humans diminish with each succeeding age.
राजानो ब्राह्मणा वैश्याः शूद्राश्चैव युधिष्ठिर ।
व्याजैर्धर्मं चरिष्यन्ति धर्मवैतंसिका नराः ॥१४॥
14. rājāno brāhmaṇā vaiśyāḥ śūdrāścaiva yudhiṣṭhira ,
vyājairdharmaṁ cariṣyanti dharmavaitaṁsikā narāḥ.
14. rājānaḥ brāhmaṇā vaiśyāḥ śūdrāḥ ca eva yudhiṣṭhira
vyājaiḥ dharmam cariṣyanti dharmavaitaṃsikā narāḥ
14. O Yudhiṣṭhira, kings, Brahmins, Vaiśyas, and even Śūdras - people who are false to the natural law (dharma) - will observe natural law (dharma) merely by pretexts.
सत्यं संक्षेप्स्यते लोके नरैः पण्डितमानिभिः ।
सत्यहान्या ततस्तेषामायुरल्पं भविष्यति ॥१५॥
15. satyaṁ saṁkṣepsyate loke naraiḥ paṇḍitamānibhiḥ ,
satyahānyā tatasteṣāmāyuralpaṁ bhaviṣyati.
15. satyam saṃkṣepsyate loke naraiḥ paṇḍitamānibhiḥ
satyahānyā tataḥ teṣām āyuḥ alpam bhaviṣyati
15. In the world, truth will be curtailed by men who consider themselves learned. Due to this loss of truth, their lifespan will then be short.
आयुषः प्रक्षयाद्विद्यां न शक्ष्यन्त्युपशिक्षितुम् ।
विद्याहीनानविज्ञानाल्लोभोऽप्यभिभविष्यति ॥१६॥
16. āyuṣaḥ prakṣayādvidyāṁ na śakṣyantyupaśikṣitum ,
vidyāhīnānavijñānāllobho'pyabhibhaviṣyati.
16. āyuṣaḥ prakṣayāt vidyām na śakṣyanti upaśikṣitum
vidyāhīnān avijñānāt lobhaḥ api abhibhaviṣyati
16. Due to the decline of their lifespan, they will not be able to properly learn knowledge. Moreover, greed will overpower those who are devoid of knowledge because of their lack of discrimination.
लोभक्रोधपरा मूढाः कामसक्ताश्च मानवाः ।
वैरबद्धा भविष्यन्ति परस्परवधेप्सवः ॥१७॥
17. lobhakrodhaparā mūḍhāḥ kāmasaktāśca mānavāḥ ,
vairabaddhā bhaviṣyanti parasparavadhepsavaḥ.
17. lobha-krodha-parāḥ mūḍhāḥ kāma-saktāḥ ca mānavāḥ
vaira-baddhāḥ bhaviṣyanti paraspara-vadhepsavaḥ
17. Deluded humans, engrossed in greed, anger, and desire, will become hostile and eager to kill one another.
ब्राह्मणाः क्षत्रिया वैश्याः संकीर्यन्तः परस्परम् ।
शूद्रतुल्या भविष्यन्ति तपःसत्यविवर्जिताः ॥१८॥
18. brāhmaṇāḥ kṣatriyā vaiśyāḥ saṁkīryantaḥ parasparam ,
śūdratulyā bhaviṣyanti tapaḥsatyavivarjitāḥ.
18. brāhmaṇāḥ kṣatriyāḥ vaiśyāḥ saṃkīryantaḥ parasparam
śūdra-tulyāḥ bhaviṣyanti tapaḥ-satya-vivarjitāḥ
18. Brahmins, Kshatriyas, and Vaishyas will mix with each other and become like Shudras, devoid of austerity (tapas) and truth.
अन्त्या मध्या भविष्यन्ति मध्याश्चान्तावसायिनः ।
ईदृशो भविता लोको युगान्ते पर्युपस्थिते ॥१९॥
19. antyā madhyā bhaviṣyanti madhyāścāntāvasāyinaḥ ,
īdṛśo bhavitā loko yugānte paryupasthite.
19. antyāḥ madhyāḥ bhaviṣyanti madhyāḥ ca anta-avasāyinaḥ
īdṛśaḥ bhavitā lokaḥ yugānte pari-upasthite
19. The lowest will become the middle class, and the middle class will become the lowest of the low. Such will be the world when the end of the age (yuga) has arrived.
वस्त्राणां प्रवरा शाणी धान्यानां कोरदूषकाः ।
भार्यामित्राश्च पुरुषा भविष्यन्ति युगक्षये ॥२०॥
20. vastrāṇāṁ pravarā śāṇī dhānyānāṁ koradūṣakāḥ ,
bhāryāmitrāśca puruṣā bhaviṣyanti yugakṣaye.
20. vastrāṇām pravarā śāṇī dhānyānām koradūṣakāḥ
bhāryā-mitrāḥ ca puruṣāḥ bhaviṣyanti yuga-kṣaye
20. Among garments, hempen cloth will be considered the best, and among grains, the inferior "koradūṣaka" will be preferred. And men (puruṣa) will have only their wives as friends at the destruction of the age (yuga).
मत्स्यामिषेण जीवन्तो दुहन्तश्चाप्यजैडकम् ।
गोषु नष्टासु पुरुषा भविष्यन्ति युगक्षये ॥२१॥
21. matsyāmiṣeṇa jīvanto duhantaścāpyajaiḍakam ,
goṣu naṣṭāsu puruṣā bhaviṣyanti yugakṣaye.
21. matsyāmiṣeṇa jīvantaḥ duhantaḥ ca api ajaiḍakam
goṣu naṣṭāsu puruṣāḥ bhaviṣyanti yugakṣaye
21. At the end of the age (yuga), people will subsist on fish and meat, and they will also milk goats and sheep, because cows will have disappeared.
अन्योन्यं परिमुष्णन्तो हिंसयन्तश्च मानवाः ।
अजपा नास्तिकाः स्तेना भविष्यन्ति युगक्षये ॥२२॥
22. anyonyaṁ parimuṣṇanto hiṁsayantaśca mānavāḥ ,
ajapā nāstikāḥ stenā bhaviṣyanti yugakṣaye.
22. anyonyam parimuṣṇantaḥ hiṃsayantaḥ ca mānavāḥ
ajapāḥ nāstikāḥ stenāḥ bhaviṣyanti yugakṣaye
22. At the end of the age (yuga), human beings will plunder and harm each other; they will be non-reciters of prayers (ajapāḥ), atheists (nāstikāḥ), and thieves.
सरित्तीरेषु कुद्दालैर्वापयिष्यन्ति चौषधीः ।
ताश्चाप्यल्पफलास्तेषां भविष्यन्ति युगक्षये ॥२३॥
23. sarittīreṣu kuddālairvāpayiṣyanti cauṣadhīḥ ,
tāścāpyalpaphalāsteṣāṁ bhaviṣyanti yugakṣaye.
23. sarittīreṣu kuddālaiḥ vāpayiṣyanti ca oṣadhīḥ
tāḥ ca api alpaphālāḥ teṣāṃ bhaviṣyanti yugakṣaye
23. At the end of the age (yuga), people will sow herbs and plants on riverbanks with hoes, but even those will yield only meager produce for them.
श्राद्धे दैवे च पुरुषा ये च नित्यं धृतव्रताः ।
तेऽपि लोभसमायुक्ता भोक्ष्यन्तीह परस्परम् ॥२४॥
24. śrāddhe daive ca puruṣā ye ca nityaṁ dhṛtavratāḥ ,
te'pi lobhasamāyuktā bhokṣyantīha parasparam.
24. śrāddhe daive ca puruṣāḥ ye ca nityaṃ dhṛtavratāḥ
te api lobhasamāyuktāḥ bhokṣyanti iha parasparam
24. Even those people who are always devoted to vows in both ancestral rites (śrāddha) and divine ceremonies, will be consumed by greed and will exploit each other in this world.
पिता पुत्रस्य भोक्ता च पितुः पुत्रस्तथैव च ।
अतिक्रान्तानि भोज्यानि भविष्यन्ति युगक्षये ॥२५॥
25. pitā putrasya bhoktā ca pituḥ putrastathaiva ca ,
atikrāntāni bhojyāni bhaviṣyanti yugakṣaye.
25. pitā putrasya bhoktā ca pituḥ putraḥ tathā eva
ca atikrāntāni bhojyāni bhaviṣyanti yugakṣaye
25. A father will exploit his son's possessions, and a son will likewise exploit his father's possessions. Foods that are forbidden or past their time will be consumed at the end of the age (yuga).
न व्रतानि चरिष्यन्ति ब्राह्मणा वेदनिन्दकाः ।
न यक्ष्यन्ति न होष्यन्ति हेतुवादविलोभिताः ॥२६॥
26. na vratāni cariṣyanti brāhmaṇā vedanindakāḥ ,
na yakṣyanti na hoṣyanti hetuvādavilobhitāḥ.
26. na vratāni cariṣyanti brāhmaṇāḥ vedanindakāḥ
na yakṣyanti na hoṣyanti hetuvādavilobhitāḥ
26. vedanindakāḥ brāhmaṇāḥ vratāni na cariṣyanti
hetuvādavilobhitāḥ na yakṣyanti na hoṣyanti
26. Brahmins who condemn the Vedas will not observe sacred vows. Deluded by rationalistic arguments (hetuvāda), they will neither perform Vedic rituals (yajña) nor Vedic fire rituals (homa).
निम्ने कृषिं करिष्यन्ति योक्ष्यन्ति धुरि धेनुकाः ।
एकहायनवत्सांश्च वाहयिष्यन्ति मानवाः ॥२७॥
27. nimne kṛṣiṁ kariṣyanti yokṣyanti dhuri dhenukāḥ ,
ekahāyanavatsāṁśca vāhayiṣyanti mānavāḥ.
27. nimne kṛṣim kariṣyanti yokṣyanti dhuri dhenukāḥ
ekahāyanavatsān ca vāhayiṣyanti mānavāḥ
27. People will cultivate land in low-lying areas. Cows will be yoked to the plow (dhuri), and humans will make calves one year old (ekahāyanavatsa) pull loads.
पुत्रः पितृवधं कृत्वा पिता पुत्रवधं तथा ।
निरुद्वेगो बृहद्वादी न निन्दामुपलप्स्यते ॥२८॥
28. putraḥ pitṛvadhaṁ kṛtvā pitā putravadhaṁ tathā ,
nirudvego bṛhadvādī na nindāmupalapsyate.
28. putraḥ pitṛvadham kṛtvā pitā putravadham tathā
nirudvegaḥ bṛhadvādī na nindām upalapsyate
28. A son, having killed his father, and likewise a father, having killed his son, will feel no distress. Such a great speaker (bṛhadvādin) will not incur any blame.
म्लेच्छभूतं जगत्सर्वं निष्क्रियं यज्ञवर्जितम् ।
भविष्यति निरानन्दमनुत्सवमथो तथा ॥२९॥
29. mlecchabhūtaṁ jagatsarvaṁ niṣkriyaṁ yajñavarjitam ,
bhaviṣyati nirānandamanutsavamatho tathā.
29. mlecchabhūtam jagat sarvam niṣkriyam yajñavarjitam
bhaviṣyati nirānandam anutsavam atho tathā
29. sarvam jagat mlecchabhūtam niṣkriyam yajñavarjitam
nirānandam anutsavam atho tathā bhaviṣyati
29. The entire world will become barbarian-like, inactive, devoid of Vedic rituals (yajña), joyless, and similarly without any festivals.
प्रायशः कृपणानां हि तथा बन्धुमतामपि ।
विधवानां च वित्तानि हरिष्यन्तीह मानवाः ॥३०॥
30. prāyaśaḥ kṛpaṇānāṁ hi tathā bandhumatāmapi ,
vidhavānāṁ ca vittāni hariṣyantīha mānavāḥ.
30. prāyaśaḥ kṛpaṇānām hi tathā bandhumatām api
vidhavānām ca vittāni hariṣyanti iha mānavāḥ
30. Indeed, people here will mostly seize the wealth of the wretched, and also of those with relatives, and of widows.
अल्पवीर्यबलाः स्तब्धा लोभमोहपरायणाः ।
तत्कथादानसंतुष्टा दुष्टानामपि मानवाः ।
परिग्रहं करिष्यन्ति पापाचारपरिग्रहाः ॥३१॥
31. alpavīryabalāḥ stabdhā lobhamohaparāyaṇāḥ ,
tatkathādānasaṁtuṣṭā duṣṭānāmapi mānavāḥ ,
parigrahaṁ kariṣyanti pāpācāraparigrahāḥ.
31. alpavīryabalāḥ stabdhāḥ
lobhamohaparāyaṇāḥ tatkathādānasantuṣṭāḥ
duṣṭānām api mānavāḥ parigraham
kariṣyanti pāpācāraparigrahāḥ
31. Humans will be weak in strength and power, arrogant, and excessively devoted to greed and delusion. Satisfied by (receiving) gifts and (listening to) tales, they will seize possessions even from the wicked, adopting sinful conduct.
संघातयन्तः कौन्तेय राजानः पापबुद्धयः ।
परस्परवधोद्युक्ता मूर्खाः पण्डितमानिनः ।
भविष्यन्ति युगस्यान्ते क्षत्रिया लोककण्टकाः ॥३२॥
32. saṁghātayantaḥ kaunteya rājānaḥ pāpabuddhayaḥ ,
parasparavadhodyuktā mūrkhāḥ paṇḍitamāninaḥ ,
bhaviṣyanti yugasyānte kṣatriyā lokakaṇṭakāḥ.
32. saṃghātayantaḥ kaunteya rājānaḥ
pāpabuddhayaḥ parasparavadhodyuktāḥ
mūrkhāḥ paṇḍitamāninaḥ bhaviṣyanti
yugasya ante kṣatriyāḥ lokakaṇṭakāḥ
32. O son of Kunti, at the end of the age (yuga), the kshatriya kings will have wicked intellects. They will instigate conflict, be intent on mutual slaughter, foolishly consider themselves wise, and ultimately become thorns for the world.
अरक्षितारो लुब्धाश्च मानाहंकारदर्पिताः ।
केवलं दण्डरुचयो भविष्यन्ति युगक्षये ॥३३॥
33. arakṣitāro lubdhāśca mānāhaṁkāradarpitāḥ ,
kevalaṁ daṇḍarucayo bhaviṣyanti yugakṣaye.
33. arakṣitāraḥ lubdhāḥ ca mānāhaṃkāradarpitāḥ
kevalam daṇḍarucayaḥ bhaviṣyanti yugakṣaye
33. In the decline of the age (yuga), those who are meant to protect will become greedy, filled with pride, ego (ahaṃkāra), and arrogance. They will delight solely in meting out punishment.
आक्रम्याक्रम्य साधूनां दारांश्चैव धनानि च ।
भोक्ष्यन्ते निरनुक्रोशा रुदतामपि भारत ॥३४॥
34. ākramyākramya sādhūnāṁ dārāṁścaiva dhanāni ca ,
bhokṣyante niranukrośā rudatāmapi bhārata.
34. ākramya ākramya sādhūnām dārān ca eva dhanāni
ca bhokṣyante niranukrośāḥ rudatām api bhārata
34. O Bhārata, these merciless (niranukrośā) individuals will repeatedly attack virtuous people (sādhu), seizing their wives and wealth, and they will enjoy these possessions even as the victims weep.
न कन्यां याचते कश्चिन्नापि कन्या प्रदीयते ।
स्वयंग्राहा भविष्यन्ति युगान्ते पर्युपस्थिते ॥३५॥
35. na kanyāṁ yācate kaścinnāpi kanyā pradīyate ,
svayaṁgrāhā bhaviṣyanti yugānte paryupasthite.
35. na kanyām yācate kaścit na api kanyā pradīyate
svayaṃgrāhāḥ bhaviṣyanti yugānte paryupasthite
35. When the end of the age (yuga) is imminent, no one will ask for a maiden, nor will any maiden be given in marriage. Instead, men will simply take them for themselves.
राजानश्चाप्यसंतुष्टाः परार्थान्मूढचेतसः ।
सर्वोपायैर्हरिष्यन्ति युगान्ते पर्युपस्थिते ॥३६॥
36. rājānaścāpyasaṁtuṣṭāḥ parārthānmūḍhacetasaḥ ,
sarvopāyairhariṣyanti yugānte paryupasthite.
36. rājānaḥ ca api asantuṣṭāḥ parārthān mūḍhacetasaḥ
sarvopāyaiḥ hariṣyanti yugānte paryupasthite
36. When the end of the age (yuga) is imminent, kings will also become discontented and foolish-minded, and they will confiscate the possessions of others by every possible means.
म्लेच्छीभूतं जगत्सर्वं भविष्यति च भारत ।
हस्तो हस्तं परिमुषेद्युगान्ते पर्युपस्थिते ॥३७॥
37. mlecchībhūtaṁ jagatsarvaṁ bhaviṣyati ca bhārata ,
hasto hastaṁ parimuṣedyugānte paryupasthite.
37. mlecchībhūtam jagat sarvam bhaviṣyati ca bhārata
hastaḥ hastam parimuṣet yugānte paryupasthite
37. O Bhārata, the entire world will become like barbarians (mlecchībhūta). When the end of the age (yugānta) approaches, one hand will rob the other.
सत्यं संक्षिप्यते लोके नरैः पण्डितमानिभिः ।
स्थविरा बालमतयो बालाः स्थविरबुद्धयः ॥३८॥
38. satyaṁ saṁkṣipyate loke naraiḥ paṇḍitamānibhiḥ ,
sthavirā bālamatayo bālāḥ sthavirabuddhayaḥ.
38. satyam saṃkṣipyate loke naraiḥ paṇḍitamānibhiḥ
sthavirāḥ bālamatayaḥ bālāḥ sthavirabuddhayaḥ
38. Truth (satya) is diminished in the world by those men who consider themselves wise. The elderly possess the minds of children, while children possess the intellects of the elderly.
भीरवः शूरमानीनः शूरा भीरुविषादिनः ।
न विश्वसन्ति चान्योन्यं युगान्ते पर्युपस्थिते ॥३९॥
39. bhīravaḥ śūramānīnaḥ śūrā bhīruviṣādinaḥ ,
na viśvasanti cānyonyaṁ yugānte paryupasthite.
39. bhīravaḥ śūramāninaḥ śūrāḥ bhīruviṣādinaḥ na
viśvasanti ca anyonyam yugānte paryupasthite
39. Cowards will consider themselves brave, while the brave will become dejected like cowards. Furthermore, when the end of the age (yugānta) approaches, people will not trust each other.
एकाहार्यं जगत्सर्वं लोभमोहव्यवस्थितम् ।
अधर्मो वर्धति महान्न च धर्मः प्रवर्तते ॥४०॥
40. ekāhāryaṁ jagatsarvaṁ lobhamohavyavasthitam ,
adharmo vardhati mahānna ca dharmaḥ pravartate.
40. ekāhāryam jagat sarvam lobhamohavyavasthitam
adharmaḥ vardhati mahān na ca dharmaḥ pravartate
40. The entire world will be consumed by a single pursuit, entangled in greed and delusion. Great unrighteousness (adharma) flourishes, and natural law (dharma) does not prevail.
ब्राह्मणाः क्षत्रिया वैश्या न शिष्यन्ति जनाधिप ।
एकवर्णस्तदा लोको भविष्यति युगक्षये ॥४१॥
41. brāhmaṇāḥ kṣatriyā vaiśyā na śiṣyanti janādhipa ,
ekavarṇastadā loko bhaviṣyati yugakṣaye.
41. brāhmaṇāḥ kṣatriyāḥ vaiśyāḥ na śiṣyanti janādhipa
ekavarṇaḥ tadā lokaḥ bhaviṣyati yugakṣaye
41. O King, Brahmins, Kshatriyas, and Vaishyas will no longer be distinct. Then, at the end of the age (yuga), the world will become of a single class.
न क्षंस्यति पिता पुत्रं पुत्रश्च पितरं तथा ।
भार्या च पतिशुश्रूषां न करिष्यति काचन ॥४२॥
42. na kṣaṁsyati pitā putraṁ putraśca pitaraṁ tathā ,
bhāryā ca patiśuśrūṣāṁ na kariṣyati kācana.
42. na kṣaṃsyati pitā putraṃ putraḥ ca pitaraṃ
tathā bhāryā ca patiśuśrūṣām na kariṣyati kācana
42. A father will not forgive his son, nor will a son forgive his father. And no wife will perform service to her husband.
ये यवान्ना जनपदा गोधूमान्नास्तथैव च ।
तान्देशान्संश्रयिष्यन्ति युगान्ते पर्युपस्थिते ॥४३॥
43. ye yavānnā janapadā godhūmānnāstathaiva ca ,
tāndeśānsaṁśrayiṣyanti yugānte paryupasthite.
43. ye yavānnāḥ janapadāḥ godhūmānnāḥ tathā eva ca
tān deśān saṃśrayiṣyanti yugānte paryupastite
43. When the end of the age (yuga) is imminent, people will seek refuge in those very countries whose staple food is barley, and likewise in those whose staple food is wheat.
स्वैराहाराश्च पुरुषा योषितश्च विशां पते ।
अन्योन्यं न सहिष्यन्ति युगान्ते पर्युपस्थिते ॥४४॥
44. svairāhārāśca puruṣā yoṣitaśca viśāṁ pate ,
anyonyaṁ na sahiṣyanti yugānte paryupasthite.
44. svairāhārāḥ ca puruṣāḥ yoṣitaḥ ca viśām pate
anyonyam na sahiṣyanti yugānte paryupastite
44. O lord of the people, when the end of the age (yuga) is imminent, men and women, relying on their own provisions, will not tolerate each other.
म्लेच्छभूतं जगत्सर्वं भविष्यति युधिष्ठिर ।
न श्राद्धैर्हि पितॄंश्चापि तर्पयिष्यन्ति मानवाः ॥४५॥
45. mlecchabhūtaṁ jagatsarvaṁ bhaviṣyati yudhiṣṭhira ,
na śrāddhairhi pitṝṁścāpi tarpayiṣyanti mānavāḥ.
45. mlecchabhūtam jagat sarvam bhaviṣyati yudhiṣṭhira
na śrāddhaiḥ hi pitṝn ca api tarpayiṣyanti mānavāḥ
45. O Yudhiṣṭhira, the entire world will become barbarized. Indeed, humans will not even satisfy their ancestors with ancestral rituals (śrāddha).
न कश्चित्कस्यचिच्छ्रोता न कश्चित्कस्यचिद्गुरुः ।
तमोग्रस्तस्तदा लोको भविष्यति नराधिप ॥४६॥
46. na kaścitkasyacicchrotā na kaścitkasyacidguruḥ ,
tamograstastadā loko bhaviṣyati narādhipa.
46. na kaścit kasyacit śrotā na kaścit kasyacit
guruḥ tamograstaḥ tadā lokaḥ bhaviṣyati narādhipa
46. O king of men, no one will listen to anyone else, nor will anyone be a teacher (guru) to anyone else. Then, the world will be engulfed by darkness (tamas).
परमायुश्च भविता तदा वर्षाणि षोडश ।
ततः प्राणान्विमोक्ष्यन्ति युगान्ते पर्युपस्थिते ॥४७॥
47. paramāyuśca bhavitā tadā varṣāṇi ṣoḍaśa ,
tataḥ prāṇānvimokṣyanti yugānte paryupasthite.
47. paramāyuḥ ca bhavitā tadā varṣāṇi ṣoḍaśa
tataḥ prāṇān vimokṣyanti yugānte paryupasthite
47. Then, the maximum lifespan will be sixteen years. After that, they will relinquish their vital breaths (prāṇa) when the end of the yuga (yugānta) has arrived.
पञ्चमे वाथ षष्ठे वा वर्षे कन्या प्रसूयते ।
सप्तवर्षाष्टवर्षाश्च प्रजास्यन्ति नरास्तदा ॥४८॥
48. pañcame vātha ṣaṣṭhe vā varṣe kanyā prasūyate ,
saptavarṣāṣṭavarṣāśca prajāsyanti narāstadā.
48. pañcame vā atha ṣaṣṭhe vā varṣe kanyā prasūyate
saptavarṣāṣṭavarṣāḥ ca prajāsyanti narāḥ tadā
48. A girl will give birth in her fifth or sixth year. And then, men will father children when they are seven or eight years old.
पत्यौ स्त्री तु तदा राजन्पुरुषो वा स्त्रियं प्रति ।
युगान्ते राजशार्दूल न तोषमुपयास्यति ॥४९॥
49. patyau strī tu tadā rājanpuruṣo vā striyaṁ prati ,
yugānte rājaśārdūla na toṣamupayāsyati.

49. O King, O tiger among kings, at the end of the age (yuga), neither a woman will find satisfaction in her husband, nor a man in his wife.
अल्पद्रव्या वृथालिङ्गा हिंसा च प्रभविष्यति ।
न कश्चित्कस्यचिद्दाता भविष्यति युगक्षये ॥५०॥
50. alpadravyā vṛthāliṅgā hiṁsā ca prabhaviṣyati ,
na kaścitkasyaciddātā bhaviṣyati yugakṣaye.
50. alpadravyā vṛthāliṅgā hiṃsā ca prabhaviṣyati
na kaścit kasyacit dātā bhaviṣyati yugakṣaye
50. At the end of the age (yuga), people will possess scant wealth and bear deceptive symbols, and violence will become prevalent. No one will give anything to anyone else.
अट्टशूला जनपदाः शिवशूलाश्चतुष्पथाः ।
केशशूलाः स्त्रियश्चापि भविष्यन्ति युगक्षये ॥५१॥
51. aṭṭaśūlā janapadāḥ śivaśūlāścatuṣpathāḥ ,
keśaśūlāḥ striyaścāpi bhaviṣyanti yugakṣaye.
51. aṭṭaśūlāḥ janapadāḥ śivaśūlāḥ catuṣpathāḥ
keśaśūlāḥ striyaḥ ca api bhaviṣyanti yugakṣaye
51. At the end of the age (yuga), towns will have gallows in their market-places, crossroads will have gallows near shrines (or in places associated with Śiva), and women, too, will suffer from severe headaches.
म्लेच्छाः क्रूराः सर्वभक्षा दारुणाः सर्वकर्मसु ।
भाविनः पश्चिमे काले मनुष्या नात्र संशयः ॥५२॥
52. mlecchāḥ krūrāḥ sarvabhakṣā dāruṇāḥ sarvakarmasu ,
bhāvinaḥ paścime kāle manuṣyā nātra saṁśayaḥ.
52. mlecchāḥ krūrāḥ sarvabhakṣāḥ dāruṇāḥ sarvakarmasu
bhāvinaḥ paścime kāle manuṣyāḥ na atra saṃśayaḥ
52. In the final age, human beings will be barbarians, cruel, indiscriminate eaters, and fierce in all their actions. There is no doubt about this.
क्रयविक्रयकाले च सर्वः सर्वस्य वञ्चनम् ।
युगान्ते भरतश्रेष्ठ वृत्तिलोभात्करिष्यति ॥५३॥
53. krayavikrayakāle ca sarvaḥ sarvasya vañcanam ,
yugānte bharataśreṣṭha vṛttilobhātkariṣyati.

yugānte bharataśreṣṭha vṛttilobhāt kariṣyati
53. O best of the Bharatas, at the end of the age (yuga), everyone will deceive everyone else, even during buying and selling, driven by greed for profit.
ज्ञानानि चाप्यविज्ञाय करिष्यन्ति क्रियास्तथा ।
आत्मच्छन्देन वर्तन्ते युगान्ते पर्युपस्थिते ॥५४॥
54. jñānāni cāpyavijñāya kariṣyanti kriyāstathā ,
ātmacchandena vartante yugānte paryupasthite.
54. jñānāni ca api avijñāya kariṣyanti kriyāḥ tathā
ātmacchandena vartante yugānte paryupasthite
54. At the impending end of the age (yuga), people will perform rituals and actions (kriyā) without proper understanding of knowledge, behaving solely according to their own desires.
स्वभावात्क्रूरकर्माणश्चान्योन्यमभिशङ्किनः ।
भवितारो जनाः सर्वे संप्राप्ते युगसंक्षये ॥५५॥
55. svabhāvātkrūrakarmāṇaścānyonyamabhiśaṅkinaḥ ,
bhavitāro janāḥ sarve saṁprāpte yugasaṁkṣaye.
55. svabhāvāt krūrakarmāṇaḥ ca anyonyam abhiśaṅkinaḥ
bhavitāraḥ janāḥ sarve samprāpte yugasaṃkṣaye
55. When the end of the age (yuga) is imminent, all people will become inherently cruel in their actions (karma) and mutually distrustful of each other.
आरामांश्चैव वृक्षांश्च नाशयिष्यन्ति निर्व्यथाः ।
भविता संक्षयो लोके जीवितस्य च देहिनाम् ॥५६॥
56. ārāmāṁścaiva vṛkṣāṁśca nāśayiṣyanti nirvyathāḥ ,
bhavitā saṁkṣayo loke jīvitasya ca dehinām.
56. ārāmān ca eva vṛkṣān ca nāśayiṣyanti nirvyathāḥ
bhavitā saṃkṣayaḥ loke jīvitasya ca dehinām
56. They will destroy gardens and trees without any compunction. There will be a decay of life and of embodied beings in the world.
तथा लोभाभिभूताश्च चरिष्यन्ति महीमिमाम् ।
ब्राह्मणाश्च भविष्यन्ति ब्रह्मस्वानि च भुञ्जते ॥५७॥
57. tathā lobhābhibhūtāśca cariṣyanti mahīmimām ,
brāhmaṇāśca bhaviṣyanti brahmasvāni ca bhuñjate.
57. tathā lobhābhibhūtāḥ ca cariṣyanti mahīm imām
brāhmaṇāḥ ca bhaviṣyanti brahmasvāni ca bhuñjate
57. Similarly, people overwhelmed by greed (lobha) will wander this earth. And Brahmins will become such that they consume the sacred property (brahmasva) designated for Brahmins.
हाहाकृता द्विजाश्चैव भयार्ता वृषलार्दिताः ।
त्रातारमलभन्तो वै भ्रमिष्यन्ति महीमिमाम् ॥५८॥
58. hāhākṛtā dvijāścaiva bhayārtā vṛṣalārditāḥ ,
trātāramalabhanto vai bhramiṣyanti mahīmimām.
58. hāhā kṛtāḥ dvijāḥ ca eva bhayārtāḥ vṛṣalārditāḥ
trātāram alabhantaḥ vai bhramiṣyanti mahīm imām
58. Indeed, the twice-born (dvija) will cry out in distress, afflicted by fear and oppressed by low-caste people (vṛṣala). Without finding any protector, they will surely wander this earth.
जीवितान्तकरा रौद्राः क्रूराः प्राणिविहिंसकाः ।
यदा भविष्यन्ति नरास्तदा संक्षेप्स्यते युगम् ॥५९॥
59. jīvitāntakarā raudrāḥ krūrāḥ prāṇivihiṁsakāḥ ,
yadā bhaviṣyanti narāstadā saṁkṣepsyate yugam.
59. jīvitāntakarāḥ raudrāḥ krūrāḥ prāṇivihiṃsakāḥ
yadā bhaviṣyanti narāḥ tadā saṃkṣepsyate yugam
59. When people become fierce, cruel, destroyers of life, and tormentors of living beings, then the age (yuga) will dwindle.
आश्रयिष्यन्ति च नदीः पर्वतान्विषमाणि च ।
प्रधावमाना वित्रस्ता द्विजाः कुरुकुलोद्वह ॥६०॥
60. āśrayiṣyanti ca nadīḥ parvatānviṣamāṇi ca ,
pradhāvamānā vitrastā dvijāḥ kurukulodvaha.
60. āśrayiṣyanti ca nadīḥ parvatān viṣamāṇi ca
pradhāvamānāḥ vitrastāḥ dvijāḥ kurukulodvaha
60. And, O leader of the Kuru dynasty (kurukulodvaha), the terrified twice-born (dvija), fleeing, will take refuge in rivers, mountains, and difficult terrains.
दस्युप्रपीडिता राजन्काका इव द्विजोत्तमाः ।
कुराजभिश्च सततं करभारप्रपीडिताः ॥६१॥
61. dasyuprapīḍitā rājankākā iva dvijottamāḥ ,
kurājabhiśca satataṁ karabhāraprapīḍitāḥ.
61. dasyuprāpīḍitāḥ rājan kākāḥ iva dvijottamāḥ
kurājabhiḥ ca satatam karabhāraprāpīḍitāḥ
61. O King, the most excellent of the twice-born (dvija), oppressed by robbers, will be like crows. And they will be constantly tormented by the burden of taxes imposed by bad kings.
धैर्यं त्यक्त्वा महीपाल दारुणे युगसंक्षये ।
विकर्माणि करिष्यन्ति शूद्राणां परिचारकाः ॥६२॥
62. dhairyaṁ tyaktvā mahīpāla dāruṇe yugasaṁkṣaye ,
vikarmāṇi kariṣyanti śūdrāṇāṁ paricārakāḥ.
62. dhairyam tyaktvā mahīpāla dāruṇe yugasaṃkṣaye
vikarmāṇi kariṣyanti śūdrāṇām paricārakāḥ
62. O King, in the dreadful dissolution of the age (yuga), those who serve śūdras will abandon their fortitude and commit unlawful deeds (vikarma).
शूद्रा धर्मं प्रवक्ष्यन्ति ब्राह्मणाः पर्युपासकाः ।
श्रोतारश्च भविष्यन्ति प्रामाण्येन व्यवस्थिताः ॥६३॥
63. śūdrā dharmaṁ pravakṣyanti brāhmaṇāḥ paryupāsakāḥ ,
śrotāraśca bhaviṣyanti prāmāṇyena vyavasthitāḥ.
63. śūdrāḥ dharmam pravakṣyanti brāhmaṇāḥ paryupāsakāḥ
śrotāraḥ ca bhaviṣyanti prāmāṇyena vyavasthitāḥ
63. Śūdras will expound (dharma), and Brahmins will serve them as attendants. Furthermore, the listeners will accept [these teachings] as established authority.
विपरीतश्च लोकोऽयं भविष्यत्यधरोत्तरः ।
एडूकान्पूजयिष्यन्ति वर्जयिष्यन्ति देवताः ।
शूद्राः परिचरिष्यन्ति न द्विजान्युगसंक्षये ॥६४॥
64. viparītaśca loko'yaṁ bhaviṣyatyadharottaraḥ ,
eḍūkānpūjayiṣyanti varjayiṣyanti devatāḥ ,
śūdrāḥ paricariṣyanti na dvijānyugasaṁkṣaye.
64. viparītaḥ ca lokaḥ ayam bhaviṣyati
adharottaraḥ eḍūkān pūjayiṣyanti
varjayiṣyanti devatāḥ śūdrāḥ
paricariṣyanti na dvijān yugasaṃkṣaye
64. This world (loka) will become reversed and topsy-turvy. People will worship places without deities (eḍūka) and shun actual deities. In this dissolution of the age (yuga), śūdras will serve, but they will not serve the twice-born (dvija).
आश्रमेषु महर्षीणां ब्राह्मणावसथेषु च ।
देवस्थानेषु चैत्येषु नागानामालयेषु च ॥६५॥
65. āśrameṣu maharṣīṇāṁ brāhmaṇāvasatheṣu ca ,
devasthāneṣu caityeṣu nāgānāmālayeṣu ca.
65. āśrameṣu maharṣīṇām brāhmaṇāvasatheṣu ca
devasthāneṣu caityeṣu nāgānām ālayeṣu ca
65. In the hermitages (āśrama) of great sages, in the dwellings of Brahmins, and in the temples, shrines, and abodes of the Nāgas (nāga).
एडूकचिह्ना पृथिवी न देवगृहभूषिता ।
भविष्यति युगे क्षीणे तद्युगान्तस्य लक्षणम् ॥६६॥
66. eḍūkacihnā pṛthivī na devagṛhabhūṣitā ,
bhaviṣyati yuge kṣīṇe tadyugāntasya lakṣaṇam.
66. eḍūkacihnā pṛthivī na devagṛhabhūṣitā
bhaviṣyati yuge kṣīṇe tat yugāntasya lakṣaṇam
66. The earth will be marked by eḍūkas (eḍūka) and will no longer be adorned with divine temples when the age (yuga) is in decline; this is a symptom of that age's (yuga) end.
यदा रौद्रा धर्महीना मांसादाः पानपास्तथा ।
भविष्यन्ति नरा नित्यं तदा संक्षेप्स्यते युगम् ॥६७॥
67. yadā raudrā dharmahīnā māṁsādāḥ pānapāstathā ,
bhaviṣyanti narā nityaṁ tadā saṁkṣepsyate yugam.
67. yadā raudrā dharmhīnā māṃsādāḥ pānapāḥ tathā
bhaviṣyanti narā nityam tadā saṃkṣepsyate yugam
67. When people become constantly fierce, devoid of natural law (dharma), flesh-eaters, and drinkers of intoxicants, then the age (yuga) will rapidly decline.
पुष्पे पुष्पं यदा राजन्फले फलमुपाश्रितम् ।
प्रजास्यति महाराज तदा संक्षेप्स्यते युगम् ॥६८॥
68. puṣpe puṣpaṁ yadā rājanphale phalamupāśritam ,
prajāsyati mahārāja tadā saṁkṣepsyate yugam.

prajāsyati mahārāja tadā saṃkṣepsyate yugam
68. O King, when a flower grows upon a flower and a fruit upon a fruit, O great king, then the age (yuga) will rapidly decline.
अकालवर्षी पर्जन्यो भविष्यति गते युगे ।
अक्रमेण मनुष्याणां भविष्यति तदा क्रिया ।
विरोधमथ यास्यन्ति वृषला ब्राह्मणैः सह ॥६९॥
69. akālavarṣī parjanyo bhaviṣyati gate yuge ,
akrameṇa manuṣyāṇāṁ bhaviṣyati tadā kriyā ,
virodhamatha yāsyanti vṛṣalā brāhmaṇaiḥ saha.
69. akālavarṣī parjanyaḥ bhaviṣyati
gate yuge akrameṇa manuṣyāṇām
bhaviṣyati tadā kriyā virodham atha
yāsyanti vṛṣalāḥ brāhmaṇaiḥ saha
69. In a bygone age, rain will fall unseasonably. Then, the actions of people will lack proper order. The low-caste (vṛṣala) people will engage in conflict with the Brahmins.
मही म्लेच्छसमाकीर्णा भविष्यति ततोऽचिरात् ।
करभारभयाद्विप्रा भजिष्यन्ति दिशो दश ॥७०॥
70. mahī mlecchasamākīrṇā bhaviṣyati tato'cirāt ,
karabhārabhayādviprā bhajiṣyanti diśo daśa.
70. mahī mlecchasamākīrṇā bhaviṣyati tataḥ acirāt
karabhārabhayāt viprāḥ bhajiṣyanti diśaḥ daśa
70. The earth will soon be overrun by Mlecchas. From fear of the burden of taxes, Brahmins will flee in all ten directions.
निर्विशेषा जनपदा नरावृष्टिभिरर्दिताः ।
आश्रमानभिपत्स्यन्ति फलमूलोपजीविनः ॥७१॥
71. nirviśeṣā janapadā narāvṛṣṭibhirarditāḥ ,
āśramānabhipatsyanti phalamūlopajīvinaḥ.
71. nirviśeṣāḥ janapadāḥ narāḥ avṛṣṭibhiḥ arditāḥ
āśramān abhipatsyanti phalamūlopajīvinaḥ
71. Regions will become undifferentiated, and people afflicted by droughts will resort to hermitages (āśrama), subsisting on fruits and roots.
एवं पर्याकुले लोके मर्यादा न भविष्यति ।
न स्थास्यन्त्युपदेशे च शिष्या विप्रियकारिणः ॥७२॥
72. evaṁ paryākule loke maryādā na bhaviṣyati ,
na sthāsyantyupadeśe ca śiṣyā vipriyakāriṇaḥ.

sthāsyanti upadeśe ca śiṣyāḥ vipriyakāriṇaḥ
72. Thus, when the world is in such disorder, proper conduct (maryādā) will cease to exist. Disobedient students will also not adhere to instruction.
आचार्योपनिधिश्चैव वत्स्यते तदनन्तरम् ।
अर्थयुक्त्या प्रवत्स्यन्ति मित्रसंबन्धिबान्धवाः ।
अभावः सर्वभूतानां युगान्ते च भविष्यति ॥७३॥
73. ācāryopanidhiścaiva vatsyate tadanantaram ,
arthayuktyā pravatsyanti mitrasaṁbandhibāndhavāḥ ,
abhāvaḥ sarvabhūtānāṁ yugānte ca bhaviṣyati.
73. ācāryopanidhiḥ ca eva vatsyate
tadanantaram artha-yuktyā pravatsyanti
mitra-sambandhi-bāndhavāḥ abhāvaḥ
sarva-bhūtānām yugānte ca bhaviṣyati
73. And after that, even the preceptor will dwell as a dependent. Friends, relatives, and kinsmen will reside together solely for financial gain. Furthermore, at the end of the age (yuga), there will be the non-existence of all beings.
दिशः प्रज्वलिताः सर्वा नक्षत्राणि चलानि च ।
ज्योतींषि प्रतिकूलानि वाताः पर्याकुलास्तथा ।
उल्कापाताश्च बहवो महाभयनिदर्शकाः ॥७४॥
74. diśaḥ prajvalitāḥ sarvā nakṣatrāṇi calāni ca ,
jyotīṁṣi pratikūlāni vātāḥ paryākulāstathā ,
ulkāpātāśca bahavo mahābhayanidarśakāḥ.

74. All directions will be ablaze, and the stars will be unstable. The celestial bodies will appear adverse, and similarly, the winds will be agitated. Furthermore, many meteor showers will serve as indicators of great danger.
षड्भिरन्यैश्च सहितो भास्करः प्रतपिष्यति ।
तुमुलाश्चापि निर्ह्रादा दिग्दाहाश्चापि सर्वशः ।
कबन्धान्तर्हितो भानुरुदयास्तमये तदा ॥७५॥
75. ṣaḍbhiranyaiśca sahito bhāskaraḥ pratapiṣyati ,
tumulāścāpi nirhrādā digdāhāścāpi sarvaśaḥ ,
kabandhāntarhito bhānurudayāstamaye tadā.
75. ṣaḍbhiḥ anyaiḥ ca sahitaḥ bhāskaraḥ
pratapiṣyati tumulāḥ ca api nirhrādāḥ
digdāhāḥ ca api sarvaśaḥ
kabandhāntarhitaḥ bhānuḥ udayāstamaye tadā
75. The sun (Bhāskara), accompanied by six other (suns), will scorch intensely. There will also be tumultuous roars and conflagrations everywhere in all directions. Then, at sunrise and sunset, the sun (Bhānu) will be obscured by headless trunks.
अकालवर्षी च तदा भविष्यति सहस्रदृक् ।
सस्यानि च न रोक्ष्यन्ति युगान्ते पर्युपस्थिते ॥७६॥
76. akālavarṣī ca tadā bhaviṣyati sahasradṛk ,
sasyāni ca na rokṣyanti yugānte paryupasthite.
76. akāla-varṣī ca tadā bhaviṣyati sahasra-dṛk
sasyāni ca na rokṣyanti yugānte paryupasthite
76. And then, the thousand-eyed (Indra) will bring unseasonable rain. Moreover, when the end of the age (yuga) has arrived, crops will not grow.
अभीक्ष्णं क्रूरवादिन्यः परुषा रुदितप्रियाः ।
भर्तॄणां वचने चैव न स्थास्यन्ति तदा स्त्रियः ॥७७॥
77. abhīkṣṇaṁ krūravādinyaḥ paruṣā ruditapriyāḥ ,
bhartṝṇāṁ vacane caiva na sthāsyanti tadā striyaḥ.

bhartṝṇām vacane ca eva na sthāsyanti tadā striyaḥ
77. At that time, women will frequently speak cruelly, be harsh, and fond of weeping; they will also not abide by their husbands' words.
पुत्राश्च मातापितरौ हनिष्यन्ति युगक्षये ।
सूदयिष्यन्ति च पतीन्स्त्रियः पुत्रानपाश्रिताः ॥७८॥
78. putrāśca mātāpitarau haniṣyanti yugakṣaye ,
sūdayiṣyanti ca patīnstriyaḥ putrānapāśritāḥ.
78. putrāḥ ca mātāpitarau haniṣyanti yugakṣaye
sūdayiṣyanti ca patīn striyaḥ putrān apāśritāḥ
78. At the end of the age (yuga), sons will kill their mothers and fathers. And women, relying on their sons, will murder their husbands.
अपर्वणि महाराज सूर्यं राहुरुपैष्यति ।
युगान्ते हुतभुक्चापि सर्वतः प्रज्वलिष्यति ॥७९॥
79. aparvaṇi mahārāja sūryaṁ rāhurupaiṣyati ,
yugānte hutabhukcāpi sarvataḥ prajvaliṣyati.
79. aparvaṇi mahārāja sūryam rāhuḥ upaiṣyati
yugānte hutabhuk ca api sarvataḥ prajvaliṣyati
79. O great king, Rāhu will seize the sun even on an inauspicious day. And at the end of the age (yuga), fire will blaze forth from everywhere.
पानीयं भोजनं चैव याचमानास्तदाध्वगाः ।
न लप्स्यन्ते निवासं च निरस्ताः पथि शेरते ॥८०॥
80. pānīyaṁ bhojanaṁ caiva yācamānāstadādhvagāḥ ,
na lapsyante nivāsaṁ ca nirastāḥ pathi śerate.
80. pānīyam bhojanam ca eva yācamānāḥ tadā adhvagaḥ
na lapsyante nivāsam ca nirastāḥ pathi śerate
80. At that time, wayfarers begging for water and food will not obtain shelter. Rejected, they will lie down on the path.
निर्घातवायसा नागाः शकुनाः समृगद्विजाः ।
रूक्षा वाचो विमोक्ष्यन्ति युगान्ते पर्युपस्थिते ॥८१॥
81. nirghātavāyasā nāgāḥ śakunāḥ samṛgadvijāḥ ,
rūkṣā vāco vimokṣyanti yugānte paryupasthite.
81. nirghātavāyasāḥ nāgāḥ śakunāḥ samṛgadvijāḥ
rūkṣāḥ vācaḥ vimokṣyanti yugānte paryupasthite
81. When the end of the age (yuga) is imminent, crows will make harsh sounds, and serpents, birds, along with animals and other twice-born creatures, will utter rough cries.
मित्रसंबन्धिनश्चापि संत्यक्ष्यन्ति नरास्तदा ।
जनं परिजनं चापि युगान्ते पर्युपस्थिते ॥८२॥
82. mitrasaṁbandhinaścāpi saṁtyakṣyanti narāstadā ,
janaṁ parijanaṁ cāpi yugānte paryupasthite.
82. mitrasambandhinaḥ ca api saṃtyakṣyanti narāḥ tadā
janam parijanam ca api yugānte paryupasthite
82. Then, when the end of the age (yuga) is imminent, men will abandon their friends and relatives, and also their own family and dependents.
अथ देशान्दिशश्चापि पत्तनानि पुराणि च ।
क्रमशः संश्रयिष्यन्ति युगान्ते पर्युपस्थिते ॥८३॥
83. atha deśāndiśaścāpi pattanāni purāṇi ca ,
kramaśaḥ saṁśrayiṣyanti yugānte paryupasthite.
83. atha deśān diśaḥ ca api pattanāni purāṇi ca
kramaśaḥ saṃśrayiṣyanti yugānte paryupasthite
83. Then, when the end of the age (yuga) is imminent, people will gradually seek refuge in various countries, regions, towns, and cities.
हा तात हा सुतेत्येवं तदा वाचः सुदारुणाः ।
विक्रोशमानश्चान्योन्यं जनो गां पर्यटिष्यति ॥८४॥
84. hā tāta hā sutetyevaṁ tadā vācaḥ sudāruṇāḥ ,
vikrośamānaścānyonyaṁ jano gāṁ paryaṭiṣyati.
84. hā tāta hā suta iti evam tadā vācaḥ sudāruṇāḥ
vikrośamānaḥ ca anyonyam janaḥ gām paryaṭiṣyati
84. 'Alas, father! Alas, son!' - such exceedingly dreadful cries will be heard then, as people lament to one another and wander over the earth.
ततस्तुमुलसंघाते वर्तमाने युगक्षये ।
द्विजातिपूर्वको लोकः क्रमेण प्रभविष्यति ॥८५॥
85. tatastumulasaṁghāte vartamāne yugakṣaye ,
dvijātipūrvako lokaḥ krameṇa prabhaviṣyati.
85. tataḥ tumulasaṃghāte vartamāne yugakṣaye
dvijātipūrvakaḥ lokaḥ krameṇa prabhaviṣyati
85. Then, while a tremendous upheaval is occurring at the end of the age (yuga), humanity, with the twice-born (dvijāti) at its forefront, will gradually prosper.
ततः कालान्तरेऽन्यस्मिन्पुनर्लोकविवृद्धये ।
भविष्यति पुनर्दैवमनुकूलं यदृच्छया ॥८६॥
86. tataḥ kālāntare'nyasminpunarlokavivṛddhaye ,
bhaviṣyati punardaivamanukūlaṁ yadṛcchayā.
86. tataḥ kālāntare anyasmin punar lokavivṛddhaye
bhaviṣyati punar daivam anukūlam yadṛcchayā
86. Then, at a different time, for the renewed prosperity of humanity, destiny (daiva) will again become favorable by its own accord.
यदा चन्द्रश्च सूर्यश्च तथा तिष्यबृहस्पती ।
एकराशौ समेष्यन्ति प्रपत्स्यति तदा कृतम् ॥८७॥
87. yadā candraśca sūryaśca tathā tiṣyabṛhaspatī ,
ekarāśau sameṣyanti prapatsyati tadā kṛtam.
87. yadā candraḥ ca sūryaḥ ca tathā tiṣyabṛhaspatī
ekarāśau sameṣyanti prapattsyati tadā kṛtam
87. When the Moon, the Sun, as well as Tiṣya (Pusya nakṣatra) and Jupiter (Bṛhaspati), all come together in one zodiacal sign, then the Kṛta (Yuga) will arrive.
कालवर्षी च पर्जन्यो नक्षत्राणि शुभानि च ।
प्रदक्षिणा ग्रहाश्चापि भविष्यन्त्यनुलोमगाः ।
क्षेमं सुभिक्षमारोग्यं भविष्यति निरामयम् ॥८८॥
88. kālavarṣī ca parjanyo nakṣatrāṇi śubhāni ca ,
pradakṣiṇā grahāścāpi bhaviṣyantyanulomagāḥ ,
kṣemaṁ subhikṣamārogyaṁ bhaviṣyati nirāmayam.
88. kālavarṣī ca parjanyaḥ nakṣatrāṇi
śubhāni ca pradakṣiṇāḥ grahāḥ ca
api bhaviṣyanti anulomagāḥ kṣemam
subhikṣam ārogyam bhaviṣyati nirāmayam
88. And the rain (parjanya) will fall in due season, the constellations will be auspicious, and the planets will also move in an auspicious, direct motion. There will be welfare, an abundance of food, and perfect health, free from disease.
कल्किर्विष्णुयशा नाम द्विजः कालप्रचोदितः ।
उत्पत्स्यते महावीर्यो महाबुद्धिपराक्रमः ॥८९॥
89. kalkirviṣṇuyaśā nāma dvijaḥ kālapracoditaḥ ,
utpatsyate mahāvīryo mahābuddhiparākramaḥ.
89. kalkiḥ viṣṇuyaśāḥ nāma dvijaḥ kālaprācoditaḥ
utpatsyate mahāvīryaḥ mahābuddhiparākramaḥ
89. Named Kalki, a brahmin (dvija) energized by time, exceedingly powerful, and possessing immense intellect and valor, will be born.
संभूतः संभलग्रामे ब्राह्मणावसथे शुभे ।
मनसा तस्य सर्वाणि वाहनान्यायुधानि च ।
उपस्थास्यन्ति योधाश्च शस्त्राणि कवचानि च ॥९०॥
90. saṁbhūtaḥ saṁbhalagrāme brāhmaṇāvasathe śubhe ,
manasā tasya sarvāṇi vāhanānyāyudhāni ca ,
upasthāsyanti yodhāśca śastrāṇi kavacāni ca.
90. saṃbhūtaḥ saṃbhalagrāme brāhmaṇāvasathe
śubhe manasā tasya sarvāṇi
vāhanāni āyudhāni ca upasthāsyanti
yodhāḥ ca śastrāṇi kavacāni ca
90. He will be born in the auspicious Brahmin settlement of the village of Sambhala. By his mere thought, all vehicles, weapons, warriors, arms, and armors will present themselves to him.
स धर्मविजयी राजा चक्रवर्ती भविष्यति ।
स चेमं संकुलं लोकं प्रसादमुपनेष्यति ॥९१॥
91. sa dharmavijayī rājā cakravartī bhaviṣyati ,
sa cemaṁ saṁkulaṁ lokaṁ prasādamupaneṣyati.
91. sa dharmavijayī rājā cakravartī bhaviṣyati sa
ca imam saṃkulam lokam prasādam upaneṣyati
91. He will be a king who triumphs by righteousness (dharma), a universal sovereign. And he will bring this distressed world to peace.
उत्थितो ब्राह्मणो दीप्तः क्षयान्तकृदुदारधीः ।
स संक्षेपो हि सर्वस्य युगस्य परिवर्तकः ॥९२॥
92. utthito brāhmaṇo dīptaḥ kṣayāntakṛdudāradhīḥ ,
sa saṁkṣepo hi sarvasya yugasya parivartakaḥ.
92. utthitaḥ brāhmaṇaḥ dīptaḥ kṣayāntakṛt udāradhīḥ
sa saṃkṣepaḥ hi sarvasya yugasya parivartakaḥ
92. The enlightened brahmin, risen and radiant, will be the destroyer of the end of decay, and of noble intellect. Indeed, he will be the abridger and transformer of the entire age.
स सर्वत्र गतान्क्षुद्रान्ब्राह्मणैः परिवारितः ।
उत्सादयिष्यति तदा सर्वान्म्लेच्छगणान्द्विजः ॥९३॥
93. sa sarvatra gatānkṣudrānbrāhmaṇaiḥ parivāritaḥ ,
utsādayiṣyati tadā sarvānmlecchagaṇāndvijaḥ.
93. saḥ sarvatra gatān kṣudrān brāhmaṇaiḥ parivāritaḥ
utsādayiṣyati tadā sarvān mlecchagaṇān dvijaḥ
93. That twice-born one (dvija), accompanied by brahmins, will then eradicate all the hosts of wicked barbarians (mleccha) who have spread throughout the land.
