जनमेजय उवाच ।
विजिते पाण्डवेयैस्तु प्रशान्ते च द्विजोत्तम ।
राष्ट्रे किं चक्रतुर्वीरौ वासुदेवधनंजयौ ॥१॥

1. Janamejaya said: "O best of brahmins, when the kingdom had been conquered by the Pāṇḍavas and peace was established, what did the two heroes, Vāsudeva and Dhanañjaya, do?"
वैशंपायन उवाच ।
विजिते पाण्डवेयैस्तु प्रशान्ते च विशां पते ।
राष्ट्रे बभूवतुर्हृष्टौ वासुदेवधनंजयौ ॥२॥

rāṣṭre babhūvaturhṛṣṭau vāsudevadhanaṁjayau.

2. Vaiśaṃpāyana said: "O ruler (viśāṁ pate), when the kingdom had been conquered by the Pāṇḍavas and peace was established, Vāsudeva and Dhanañjaya were indeed greatly delighted."
विजह्राते मुदा युक्तौ दिवि देवेश्वराविव ।
तौ वनेषु विचित्रेषु पर्वतानां च सानुषु ॥३॥
3. vijahrāte mudā yuktau divi deveśvarāviva ,
tau vaneṣu vicitreṣu parvatānāṁ ca sānuṣu.

3. The two, endowed with joy, sported like the two lords of gods in heaven. They wandered through diverse forests and on the slopes of mountains.
शैलेषु रमणीयेषु पल्वलेषु नदीषु च ।
चङ्क्रम्यमाणौ संहृष्टावश्विनाविव नन्दने ॥४॥
4. śaileṣu ramaṇīyeṣu palvaleṣu nadīṣu ca ,
caṅkramyamāṇau saṁhṛṣṭāvaśvināviva nandane.

4. They wandered, greatly delighted, on charming mountains, by ponds, and along rivers, just like the two Aśvins in the Nandana garden.
इन्द्रप्रस्थे महात्मानौ रेमाते कृष्णपाण्डवौ ।
प्रविश्य तां सभां रम्यां विजह्राते च भारत ॥५॥
5. indraprasthe mahātmānau remāte kṛṣṇapāṇḍavau ,
praviśya tāṁ sabhāṁ ramyāṁ vijahrāte ca bhārata.

5. O Bhārata, the two great-souled ones, Krishna and the Pāṇḍava (Arjuna), enjoyed themselves in Indraprastha. Having entered that beautiful assembly hall, they also sported.
तत्र युद्धकथाश्चित्राः परिक्लेशांश्च पार्थिव ।
कथायोगे कथायोगे कथयामासतुस्तदा ॥६॥
6. tatra yuddhakathāścitrāḥ parikleśāṁśca pārthiva ,
kathāyoge kathāyoge kathayāmāsatustadā.

kathāyoge kathāyoge kathayāmāsatuḥ tadā
6. O king (pārthiva), there, during their conversations and discussions, they narrated various tales of battles and their afflictions at that time.
ऋषीणां देवतानां च वंशांस्तावाहतुस्तदा ।
प्रीयमाणौ महात्मानौ पुराणावृषिसत्तमौ ॥७॥
7. ṛṣīṇāṁ devatānāṁ ca vaṁśāṁstāvāhatustadā ,
prīyamāṇau mahātmānau purāṇāvṛṣisattamau.
7. ṛṣīṇām devatānām ca vaṃśān tau āhatuḥ tadā
prīyamāṇau mahātmānau purāṇau ṛṣisattamau

7. Then, those two ancient, great-souled, and most excellent sages, delighting, recounted the lineages of sages and deities.
मधुरास्तु कथाश्चित्राश्चित्रार्थपदनिश्चयाः ।
निश्चयज्ञः स पार्थाय कथयामास केशवः ॥८॥
8. madhurāstu kathāścitrāścitrārthapadaniścayāḥ ,
niścayajñaḥ sa pārthāya kathayāmāsa keśavaḥ.
8. madhurāḥ tu kathāḥ citrāḥ citrārthapadaniscayāḥ
niścayajñaḥ sa pārthāya kathayāmāsa keśavaḥ
8. saḥ niścayajñaḥ keśavaḥ pārthāya madhurāḥ tu

8. Keshava, who possessed certain knowledge, narrated to Partha (Arjuna) delightful and varied stories, whose meanings and terms were precise.
पुत्रशोकाभिसंतप्तं ज्ञातीनां च सहस्रशः ।
कथाभिः शमयामास पार्थं शौरिर्जनार्दनः ॥९॥
9. putraśokābhisaṁtaptaṁ jñātīnāṁ ca sahasraśaḥ ,
kathābhiḥ śamayāmāsa pārthaṁ śaurirjanārdanaḥ.
9. putraśokābhisantaptam jñātīnām ca sahasraśaḥ
kathābhiḥ śamayāmāsa pārtham śauriḥ janārdanaḥ
9. śauriḥ janārdanaḥ putraśokābhisantaptam jñātīnām
ca sahasraśaḥ pārtham kathābhiḥ śamayāmāsa
9. Shauri (Krishna), Janardana, pacified Partha (Arjuna) - who was intensely distressed by grief for his sons and for thousands of kinsmen - by means of these stories.
स तमाश्वास्य विधिवद्विधानज्ञो महातपाः ।
अपहृत्यात्मनो भारं विशश्रामेव सात्वतः ॥१०॥
10. sa tamāśvāsya vidhivadvidhānajño mahātapāḥ ,
apahṛtyātmano bhāraṁ viśaśrāmeva sātvataḥ.
10. sa tam āśvāsya vidhivat vidhānajñaḥ mahātapaḥ
apahṛtya ātmanaḥ bhāram viśaśrāma iva sātvataḥ
10. saḥ vidhānajñaḥ mahātapaḥ sātvataḥ vidhivat tam
āśvāsya ātmanaḥ bhāram apahṛtya iva viśaśrāma
10. Having properly consoled him, that expert in sacred rules and one of great spiritual power (Krishna, the Sātvata), felt as if he had removed his own burden and then rested.
ततः कथान्ते गोविन्दो गुडाकेशमुवाच ह ।
सान्त्वयञ्श्लक्ष्णया वाचा हेतुयुक्तमिदं वचः ॥११॥
11. tataḥ kathānte govindo guḍākeśamuvāca ha ,
sāntvayañślakṣṇayā vācā hetuyuktamidaṁ vacaḥ.
11. tataḥ kathā ante govindaḥ guḍākeśam uvāca ha
sāntvayan ślakṣṇayā vācā hetuyuktam idam vacaḥ
11. tataḥ kathā ante govindaḥ sāntvayan ślakṣṇayā
vācā hetuyuktam idam vacaḥ guḍākeśam uvāca ha
11. Then, at the conclusion of the discourse, Govinda addressed Guḍākeśa (Arjuna) with these gentle and reasonable words, comforting him.
विजितेयं धरा कृत्स्ना सव्यसाचिन्परंतप ।
त्वद्बाहुबलमाश्रित्य राज्ञा धर्मसुतेन ह ॥१२॥
12. vijiteyaṁ dharā kṛtsnā savyasācinparaṁtapa ,
tvadbāhubalamāśritya rājñā dharmasutena ha.
12. vijitā iyam dharā kṛtsnā savyasācin paraṃtapa
tvat bāhubalam āśritya rājñā dharmasutena ha
12. savyasācin paraṃtapa,
iyam kṛtsnā dharā tvat bāhubalam āśritya rājñā dharmasutena ha vijitā
12. O Savyasācin (Arjuna), O tormentor of foes, this entire earth has indeed been conquered by King Yudhiṣṭhira, the son of (dharma), relying on the might of your arms.
असपत्नां महीं भुङ्क्ते धर्मराजो युधिष्ठिरः ।
भीमसेनप्रभावेन यमयोश्च नरोत्तम ॥१३॥
13. asapatnāṁ mahīṁ bhuṅkte dharmarājo yudhiṣṭhiraḥ ,
bhīmasenaprabhāvena yamayośca narottama.
13. asapatnām mahīm bhuṅkte dharmarājaḥ yudhiṣṭhiraḥ
bhīmasenaprabhāvena yamayoḥ ca narottama
13. narottama,

13. O best of men (Arjuna), King Yudhiṣṭhira, the ruler of (dharma), enjoys the earth without rivals, by the power of Bhīmasena and the two Yamas (Nākula and Sahadeva).
धर्मेण राज्ञा धर्मज्ञ प्राप्तं राज्यमकण्टकम् ।
धर्मेण निहतः संख्ये स च राजा सुयोधनः ॥१४॥
14. dharmeṇa rājñā dharmajña prāptaṁ rājyamakaṇṭakam ,
dharmeṇa nihataḥ saṁkhye sa ca rājā suyodhanaḥ.
14. dharmeṇa rājñā dharmajña prāptam rājyam akaṇṭakam
dharmeṇa nihataḥ saṃkhye sa ca rājā suyodhanaḥ
14. dharmajña,
rājñā dharmeṇa akaṇṭakam rājyam prāptam.
ca dharmeṇa sa rājā suyodhanaḥ saṃkhye nihataḥ.
14. O knower of (dharma) (Arjuna), the kingdom without rivals was obtained by the King through righteous means (dharma). And by righteous means (dharma), that King Suyodhana (Duryodhana) was killed in battle.
अधर्मरुचयो लुब्धाः सदा चाप्रियवादिनः ।
धार्तराष्ट्रा दुरात्मानः सानुबन्धा निपातिताः ॥१५॥
15. adharmarucayo lubdhāḥ sadā cāpriyavādinaḥ ,
dhārtarāṣṭrā durātmānaḥ sānubandhā nipātitāḥ.
15. adharma-rucayaḥ lubdhāḥ sadā ca apriya-vādinaḥ
dhārtarāṣṭrāḥ durātmānaḥ sa-anubandhāḥ nipātitāḥ
15. dhārtarāṣṭrāḥ adharma-rucayaḥ lubdhāḥ sadā ca
apriya-vādinaḥ durātmānaḥ sa-anubandhāḥ nipātitāḥ
15. The sons of Dhṛtarāṣṭra, who were inclined towards unrighteousness (adharma), greedy, always spoke unpleasant words, and were wicked, have been struck down along with their relatives.
प्रशान्तामखिलां पार्थ पृथिवीं पृथिवीपतिः ।
भुङ्क्ते धर्मसुतो राजा त्वया गुप्तः कुरूद्वह ॥१६॥
16. praśāntāmakhilāṁ pārtha pṛthivīṁ pṛthivīpatiḥ ,
bhuṅkte dharmasuto rājā tvayā guptaḥ kurūdvaha.
16. praśāntām akhilām pārtha pṛthivīm pṛthivīpatiḥ
bhuṅkte dharma-sutaḥ rājā tvayā guptaḥ kurūdvaha
16. pārtha kurūdvaha tvayā guptaḥ dharma-sutaḥ rājā
pṛthivīpatiḥ praśāntām akhilām pṛthivīm bhuṅkte
16. O Pārtha, O foremost of the Kurus, King Yudhiṣṭhira, the son of (dharma), rules the entire peaceful earth, protected by you.
रमे चाहं त्वया सार्धमरण्येष्वपि पाण्डव ।
किमु यत्र जनोऽयं वै पृथा चामित्रकर्शन ॥१७॥
17. rame cāhaṁ tvayā sārdhamaraṇyeṣvapi pāṇḍava ,
kimu yatra jano'yaṁ vai pṛthā cāmitrakarśana.
17. rame ca aham tvayā sārdham araṇyeṣu api pāṇḍava
kimu yatra janaḥ ayam vai pṛthā ca amitra-karśana
17. pāṇḍava amitra-karśana aham tvayā sārdham araṇyeṣu
api rame kimu yatra ayam janaḥ ca pṛthā vai
17. O Pāṇḍava, I delight even in the forests with you. How much more so where these people and Pṛthā (Kuntī) are, O tormentor of enemies?
यत्र धर्मसुतो राजा यत्र भीमो महाबलः ।
यत्र माद्रवतीपुत्रौ रतिस्तत्र परा मम ॥१८॥
18. yatra dharmasuto rājā yatra bhīmo mahābalaḥ ,
yatra mādravatīputrau ratistatra parā mama.
18. yatra dharma-sutaḥ rājā yatra bhīmaḥ mahā-balaḥ
yatra mādravatī-putrau ratiḥ tatra parā mama
18. yatra dharma-sutaḥ rājā yatra mahā-balaḥ bhīmaḥ
yatra mādravatī-putrau tatra mama parā ratiḥ
18. Where the king is the son of (dharma), where Bhīma of great strength is, and where the two sons of Mādrī are, there is my supreme delight.
तथैव स्वर्गकल्पेषु सभोद्देशेषु भारत ।
रमणीयेषु पुण्येषु सहितस्य त्वयानघ ॥१९॥
19. tathaiva svargakalpeṣu sabhoddeśeṣu bhārata ,
ramaṇīyeṣu puṇyeṣu sahitasya tvayānagha.
19. tathā eva svarga-kalpeṣu sabhā-uddeśeṣu bhārata
ramaṇīyeṣu puṇyeṣu sahitasya tvayā anagha
19. bhārata anagha tathā eva tvayā sahitasya
svarga-kalpeṣu sabhā-uddeśeṣu ramaṇīyeṣu puṇyeṣu
19. And likewise, O Bhārata, O sinless one, I recall the time spent with you in delightful and sacred assembly halls that were like heavenly realms.
कालो महांस्त्वतीतो मे शूरपुत्रमपश्यतः ।
बलदेवं च कौरव्य तथान्यान्वृष्णिपुंगवान् ॥२०॥
20. kālo mahāṁstvatīto me śūraputramapaśyataḥ ,
baladevaṁ ca kauravya tathānyānvṛṣṇipuṁgavān.
20. kālaḥ mahān tu atītaḥ me śūra-putram apaśyataḥ
baladevam ca kauravya tathā anyān vṛṣṇi-puṅgavān
20. kauravya me tu mahān kālaḥ atītaḥ śūra-putram
baladevam ca tathā anyān vṛṣṇi-puṅgavān apaśyataḥ
20. Indeed, a long time has passed for me, O descendant of Kuru, without seeing the son of Śūra, and Baladeva, as well as other excellent Vṛṣṇi heroes.
सोऽहं गन्तुमभीप्सामि पुरीं द्वारवतीं प्रति ।
रोचतां गमनं मह्यं तवापि पुरुषर्षभ ॥२१॥
21. so'haṁ gantumabhīpsāmi purīṁ dvāravatīṁ prati ,
rocatāṁ gamanaṁ mahyaṁ tavāpi puruṣarṣabha.
21. saḥ aham gantum abhīpsāmi purīm dvāravatīm prati
rocatām gamanam mahyam tava api puruṣa-ṛṣabha
21. saḥ aham dvāravatīm purīm prati gantum abhīpsāmi
puruṣa-ṛṣabha mahyam gamanam tava api rocatām
21. Therefore, I desire to go towards the city of Dvāravatī. May my departure be agreeable to you also, O best among men.
उक्तो बहुविधं राजा तत्र तत्र युधिष्ठिरः ।
स ह भीष्मेण यद्युक्तमस्माभिः शोककारिते ॥२२॥
22. ukto bahuvidhaṁ rājā tatra tatra yudhiṣṭhiraḥ ,
sa ha bhīṣmeṇa yadyuktamasmābhiḥ śokakārite.
22. uktaḥ bahuvidham rājā tatra tatra yudhiṣṭhiraḥ
saḥ ha bhīṣmeṇa yat yuktam asmābhiḥ śoka-kārite
22. rājā yudhiṣṭhiraḥ tatra tatra bahuvidham uktaḥ
saḥ ha bhīṣmeṇa asmābhiḥ śoka-kārite yat yuktam
22. King Yudhiṣṭhira was advised extensively on various occasions. Indeed, what was appropriate concerning the sorrowful situation was told to him by Bhīṣma and also by us.
शिष्टो युधिष्ठिरोऽस्माभिः शास्ता सन्नपि पाण्डवः ।
तेन तच्च वचः सम्यग्गृहीतं सुमहात्मना ॥२३॥
23. śiṣṭo yudhiṣṭhiro'smābhiḥ śāstā sannapi pāṇḍavaḥ ,
tena tacca vacaḥ samyaggṛhītaṁ sumahātmanā.
23. śiṣṭaḥ yudhiṣṭhiraḥ asmābhiḥ śāstā san api pāṇḍavaḥ
tena tat ca vacaḥ samyak gṛhītam sumahātmanā
23. yudhiṣṭhiraḥ pāṇḍavaḥ śāstā san api asmābhiḥ śiṣṭaḥ
tena sumahātmanā tat ca vacaḥ samyak gṛhītam
23. Even though Yudhiṣṭhira, the son of Pāṇḍu, is our teacher, he was instructed by us. That excellent advice was properly accepted by that great soul (mahātman).
धर्मपुत्रे हि धर्मज्ञे कृतज्ञे सत्यवादिनि ।
सत्यं धर्मो मतिश्चाग्र्या स्थितिश्च सततं स्थिरा ॥२४॥
24. dharmaputre hi dharmajñe kṛtajñe satyavādini ,
satyaṁ dharmo matiścāgryā sthitiśca satataṁ sthirā.
24. dharmaputre hi dharma-jñe kṛtajñe satyavādini satyam
dharmaḥ matiḥ ca agryā sthitiḥ ca satatam sthirā
24. hi dharmaputre dharma-jñe kṛtajñe satyavādini satyam
dharmaḥ agryā matiḥ ca satatam sthirā sthitiḥ ca
24. Indeed, in the son of Dharma (dharma), Yudhiṣṭhira, who understands (dharma), is grateful, and speaks the truth, truth, the natural law (dharma), excellent intelligence, and constant steadfastness are ever present.
तद्गत्वा तं महात्मानं यदि ते रोचतेऽर्जुन ।
अस्मद्गमनसंयुक्तं वचो ब्रूहि जनाधिपम् ॥२५॥
25. tadgatvā taṁ mahātmānaṁ yadi te rocate'rjuna ,
asmadgamanasaṁyuktaṁ vaco brūhi janādhipam.
25. tat gatvā tam mahātmānam yadi te rocate arjuna
asmat gamana-saṃyuktam vacaḥ brūhi janādhipam
25. arjuna yadi te rocate tat tam mahātmānam gatvā
asmat gamana-saṃyuktam vacaḥ janādhipam brūhi
25. Therefore, Arjuna, if it pleases you, go to that great soul (mahātman) and speak to the king (janādhipa) a message connected with our departure.
न हि तस्याप्रियं कुर्यां प्राणत्यागेऽप्युपस्थिते ।
कुतो गन्तुं महाबाहो पुरीं द्वारवतीं प्रति ॥२६॥
26. na hi tasyāpriyaṁ kuryāṁ prāṇatyāge'pyupasthite ,
kuto gantuṁ mahābāho purīṁ dvāravatīṁ prati.
26. na hi tasya apriyam kuryām prāṇatyāge api upasthite
kutaḥ gantum mahābāho purīm dvāravatīm prati
26. hi prāṇatyāge api upasthite tasya apriyam na kuryām
mahābāho kutaḥ dvāravatīm purīm prati gantum
26. Indeed, I would not do anything disagreeable to him, even if my life were at stake. How then, O mighty-armed one, can I go to the city of Dvāravatī?
सर्वं त्विदमहं पार्थ त्वत्प्रीतिहितकाम्यया ।
ब्रवीमि सत्यं कौरव्य न मिथ्यैतत्कथंचन ॥२७॥
27. sarvaṁ tvidamahaṁ pārtha tvatprītihitakāmyayā ,
bravīmi satyaṁ kauravya na mithyaitatkathaṁcana.
27. sarvam tu idam aham pārtha tvat-prīti-hita-kāmyayā
bravīmi satyam kauravya na mithyā etat kathaṃcana
27. pārtha kauravya aham tvat-prīti-hita-kāmyayā sarvam
idam satyam bravīmi etat kathaṃcana na mithyā
27. O Pārtha, I declare all this to you truly, O descendant of Kuru, desiring your well-being and satisfaction. This is in no way false.
प्रयोजनं च निर्वृत्तमिह वासे ममार्जुन ।
धार्तराष्ट्रो हतो राजा सबलः सपदानुगः ॥२८॥
28. prayojanaṁ ca nirvṛttamiha vāse mamārjuna ,
dhārtarāṣṭro hato rājā sabalaḥ sapadānugaḥ.
28. prayojanam ca nirvṛttam iha vāse mama arjuna
dhārtarāṣṭraḥ hataḥ rājā sabalaḥ sapadānugaḥ
28. arjuna mama iha vāse ca prayojanam nirvṛttam
dhārtarāṣṭraḥ rājā sabalaḥ sapadānugaḥ hataḥ
28. And my purpose for residing here, O Arjuna, has been fulfilled. Dhṛtarāṣṭra's son, the king, has been slain along with his army and followers.
पृथिवी च वशे तात धर्मपुत्रस्य धीमतः ।
स्थिता समुद्रवसना सशैलवनकानना ।
चिता रत्नैर्बहुविधैः कुरुराजस्य पाण्डव ॥२९॥
29. pṛthivī ca vaśe tāta dharmaputrasya dhīmataḥ ,
sthitā samudravasanā saśailavanakānanā ,
citā ratnairbahuvidhaiḥ kururājasya pāṇḍava.
29. pṛthivī ca vaśe tāta dharma-putrasya
dhīmataḥ sthitā samudra-vasanā
sa-śaila-vana-kānanā citā ratnaiḥ
bahuvidhaiḥ kuru-rājasya pāṇḍava
29. tāta pāṇḍava ca pṛthivī samudra-vasanā
sa-śaila-vana-kānanā bahuvidhaiḥ
ratnaiḥ citā sthitā dhīmataḥ
dharma-putrasya vaśe kuru-rājasya
29. And the earth, O dear one, is now under the control of the wise son of natural law (dharma), Yudhiṣṭhira. Adorned with oceans as her garment, encompassing mountains, forests, and groves, and filled with diverse jewels, she belongs to the king of the Kurus, O Pāṇḍava.
धर्मेण राजा धर्मज्ञः पातु सर्वां वसुंधराम् ।
उपास्यमानो बहुभिः सिद्धैश्चापि महात्मभिः ।
स्तूयमानश्च सततं बन्दिभिर्भरतर्षभ ॥३०॥
30. dharmeṇa rājā dharmajñaḥ pātu sarvāṁ vasuṁdharām ,
upāsyamāno bahubhiḥ siddhaiścāpi mahātmabhiḥ ,
stūyamānaśca satataṁ bandibhirbharatarṣabha.
30. dharmeṇa rājā dharma-jñaḥ pātu sarvām
vasundharām upāsyamānaḥ bahubhiḥ
siddhaiḥ ca api mahātmabhiḥ stūyamānaḥ
ca satatam bandibhiḥ bharatarṣabha
30. bharatarṣabha dharma-jñaḥ rājā dharmeṇa
sarvām vasundharām pātu ca api
bahubhiḥ siddhaiḥ mahātmabhiḥ upāsyamānaḥ
ca satatam bandibhiḥ stūyamānaḥ
30. May the king, who understands natural law (dharma), protect the entire earth through natural law (dharma). May he be served by many perfected beings (siddhas) and great souls (mahātman-s), and constantly praised by bards, O best of the Bhāratas.
तन्मया सह गत्वाद्य राजानं कुरुवर्धनम् ।
आपृच्छ कुरुशार्दूल गमनं द्वारकां प्रति ॥३१॥
31. tanmayā saha gatvādya rājānaṁ kuruvardhanam ,
āpṛccha kuruśārdūla gamanaṁ dvārakāṁ prati.
31. tat mayā saha gatvā adya rājānam kuruvardhanam
āpṛccha kuruśārdūla gamanam dvārakām prati
31. kuruśārdūla tat adya mayā saha kuruvardhanam
rājānam gatvā dvārakām prati gamanam āpṛccha
31. Therefore, O tiger among Kurus, go with me today to King Kuruvardhana and ask his permission for our journey to Dvārakā.
इदं शरीरं वसु यच्च मे गृहे निवेदितं पार्थ सदा युधिष्ठिरे ।
प्रियश्च मान्यश्च हि मे युधिष्ठिरः सदा कुरूणामधिपो महामतिः ॥३२॥
32. idaṁ śarīraṁ vasu yacca me gṛhe; niveditaṁ pārtha sadā yudhiṣṭhire ,
priyaśca mānyaśca hi me yudhiṣṭhiraḥ; sadā kurūṇāmadhipo mahāmatiḥ.
32. idam śarīram vasu yat ca me gṛhe
niveditam pārtha sadā yudhiṣṭhire
priyaḥ ca mānyaḥ ca hi me yudhiṣṭhiraḥ
sadā kurūṇām adhipaḥ mahāmatiḥ
32. pārtha idam śarīram ca yat vasu me
gṛhe sadā yudhiṣṭhire niveditam hi
yudhiṣṭhiraḥ me sadā priyaḥ ca
mānyaḥ ca kurūṇām adhipaḥ mahāmatiḥ
32. O Pārtha, this body of mine and all the wealth in my house have always been dedicated to Yudhiṣṭhira. Indeed, Yudhiṣṭhira is always dear and respected by me; he is the great-minded chief of the Kurus.
प्रयोजनं चापि निवासकारणे न विद्यते मे त्वदृते महाभुज ।
स्थिता हि पृथ्वी तव पार्थ शासने गुरोः सुवृत्तस्य युधिष्ठिरस्य ह ॥३३॥
33. prayojanaṁ cāpi nivāsakāraṇe; na vidyate me tvadṛte mahābhuja ,
sthitā hi pṛthvī tava pārtha śāsane; guroḥ suvṛttasya yudhiṣṭhirasya ha.
33. prayojanam ca api nivāsakāraṇe na
vidyate me tvat ṛte mahābhuja
sthitā hi pṛthvī tava pārtha śāsane
guroḥ suvṛttasya yudhiṣṭhirasya ha
33. mahābhuja tvat ṛte me nivāsakāraṇe
prayojanam ca api na vidyate hi
pārtha pṛthvī tava ca suvṛttasya
guroḥ yudhiṣṭhirasya śāsane sthitā ha
33. And indeed, O mighty-armed one, I have no need for a dwelling place without you. For this earth, O Pārtha, stands under your rule and that of the virtuous teacher (guru) Yudhiṣṭhira.
इतीदमुक्तं स तदा महात्मना जनार्दनेनामितविक्रमोऽर्जुनः ।
तथेति कृच्छ्रादिव वाचमीरयज्जनार्दनं संप्रतिपूज्य पार्थिव ॥३४॥
34. itīdamuktaṁ sa tadā mahātmanā; janārdanenāmitavikramo'rjunaḥ ,
tatheti kṛcchrādiva vācamīraya;jjanārdanaṁ saṁpratipūjya pārthiva.
34. iti idam uktam sa tadā mahātmanā
janārdanena amitavikramaḥ arjunaḥ
tathā iti kṛcchrāt iva vācam īrayat
janārdanam saṃpratipūjya pārthiva
34. pārthiva iti idam mahātmanā
janārdanena uktam tadā amitavikramaḥ
arjunaḥ janārdanam saṃpratipūjya
kṛcchrāt iva tathā iti vācam īrayat
34. Thus spoke the great-souled (mahātman) Janārdana (Krishna). Then Arjuna, whose valor was immeasurable, having properly honored Janārdana, uttered the words, 'So be it,' as if with great difficulty, O king.
