संजय उवाच ।
तमुद्यतं महाबाहुं दुःशासनरथं प्रति ।
त्वरितं त्वरणीयेषु धनंजयहितैषिणम् ॥१॥

tamudyataṁ mahābāhuṁ duḥśāsanarathaṁ prati ,
tvaritaṁ tvaraṇīyeṣu dhanaṁjayahitaiṣiṇam.

1. Sanjaya said: (He spoke of) that mighty-armed (warrior), who was ready (for action), swift among the swift, a well-wisher of Dhanaṃjaya (Arjuna), and was moving towards Duḥśāsana's chariot.
त्रिगर्तानां महेष्वासाः सुवर्णविकृतध्वजाः ।
सेनासमुद्रमाविष्टमानर्तं पर्यवारयन् ॥२॥
2. trigartānāṁ maheṣvāsāḥ suvarṇavikṛtadhvajāḥ ,
senāsamudramāviṣṭamānartaṁ paryavārayan.

senāsamudram āviṣṭam anartam paryavārayan

2. The great archers of the Trigarta warriors, whose banners were adorned with gold, surrounded Anarta (Satyaki) as he plunged into the ocean-like army.
अथैनं रथवंशेन सर्वतः संनिवार्य ते ।
अवाकिरञ्शरव्रातैः क्रुद्धाः परमधन्विनः ॥३॥
3. athainaṁ rathavaṁśena sarvataḥ saṁnivārya te ,
avākirañśaravrātaiḥ kruddhāḥ paramadhanvinaḥ.
3. atha enam rathavaṃśena sarvataḥ saṃnivārya te
avākiran śaravrātaiḥ kruddhāḥ paramadhanvinaḥ
3. atha te kruddhāḥ paramadhanvinaḥ rathavaṃśena

3. Then, having surrounded him on all sides with their chariot formations, those enraged, great archers showered him with volleys of arrows.
अजयद्राजपुत्रांस्तान्यतमानान्महारणे ।
एकः पञ्चाशतं शत्रून्सात्यकिः सत्यविक्रमः ॥४॥
4. ajayadrājaputrāṁstānyatamānānmahāraṇe ,
ekaḥ pañcāśataṁ śatrūnsātyakiḥ satyavikramaḥ.
4. ajayat rājaputrān tān yatamānān mahāraṇe ekaḥ
pañcāśatam śatrūn sātyakiḥ satyavikramaḥ
4. satyavikramaḥ sātyakiḥ ekaḥ tān yatamānān
pañcāśatam rājaputrān śatrūn mahāraṇe ajayat
4. Satyaki, whose valor (vikrama) was true, alone conquered those fifty princes, his enemies, who were exerting themselves in that great battle.
संप्राप्य भारतीमध्यं तलघोषसमाकुलम् ।
असिशक्तिगदापूर्णमप्लवं सलिलं यथा ॥५॥
5. saṁprāpya bhāratīmadhyaṁ talaghoṣasamākulam ,
asiśaktigadāpūrṇamaplavaṁ salilaṁ yathā.
5. saṃprāpya bhāratīmadhyam talaghoṣasamākulam
asiśaktigadāpūrṇam aplavam salilam yathā
5. yathā aplavam salilam,
(tathā) talaghoṣasamākulam asiśaktigadāpūrṇam bhāratīmadhyam saṃprāpya
5. Having reached the midst of the Bharata army, which was agitated by the roar of palms striking and filled with swords, spears, and maces, just like unfordable waters without a boat.
तत्राद्भुतमपश्याम शैनेयचरितं रणे ।
प्रतीच्यां दिशि तं दृष्ट्वा प्राच्यां पश्याम लाघवात् ॥६॥
6. tatrādbhutamapaśyāma śaineyacaritaṁ raṇe ,
pratīcyāṁ diśi taṁ dṛṣṭvā prācyāṁ paśyāma lāghavāt.
6. tatra adbhutam apaśyāma śaineyacaritam raṇe
pratīcyām diśi tam dṛṣṭvā prācyām paśyāma lāghavāt
6. tatra raṇe adbhutam śaineyacaritam apaśyāmapratīcyām
diśi tam dṛṣṭvā lāghavāt prācyām paśyāma
6. There, in the battle, we witnessed the astonishing feat of Shainya (Satyaki). Having just seen him in the western direction, we would then see him in the eastern, due to his extraordinary swiftness.
उदीचीं दक्षिणां प्राचीं प्रतीचीं प्रसृतस्तथा ।
नृत्यन्निवाचरच्छूरो यथा रथशतं तथा ॥७॥
7. udīcīṁ dakṣiṇāṁ prācīṁ pratīcīṁ prasṛtastathā ,
nṛtyannivācaracchūro yathā rathaśataṁ tathā.
7. udīcīm dakṣiṇām prācīm pratīcīm prasṛtaḥ tathā
nṛtyan iva ācarat śūraḥ yathā rathaśatam tathā
7. śūraḥ udīcīm dakṣiṇām prācīm pratīcīm prasṛtaḥ
tathā nṛtyan iva rathaśatam yathā tathā ācarat
7. The hero, spreading out to the northern, southern, eastern, and western directions, moved as if dancing, resembling a hundred chariots.
तद्दृष्ट्वा चरितं तस्य सिंहविक्रान्तगामिनः ।
त्रिगर्ताः संन्यवर्तन्त संतप्ताः स्वजनं प्रति ॥८॥
8. taddṛṣṭvā caritaṁ tasya siṁhavikrāntagāminaḥ ,
trigartāḥ saṁnyavartanta saṁtaptāḥ svajanaṁ prati.
8. tat dṛṣṭvā caritam tasya siṃhavikrāntagāminaḥ
trigartāḥ sannyavartanta saṃtaptāḥ svajanam prati
8. (te) tasya siṃhavikrāntagāminaḥ tat caritam dṛṣṭvā
saṃtaptāḥ trigartāḥ svajanam prati sannyavartanta
8. Seeing his lion-like (siṃhavikrānta) actions, the Trigartas became distressed and retreated towards their own people.
तमन्ये शूरसेनानां शूराः संख्ये न्यवारयन् ।
नियच्छन्तः शरव्रातैर्मत्तं द्विपमिवाङ्कुशैः ॥९॥
9. tamanye śūrasenānāṁ śūrāḥ saṁkhye nyavārayan ,
niyacchantaḥ śaravrātairmattaṁ dvipamivāṅkuśaiḥ.
9. tam anye śūrasenānām śūrāḥ saṃkhye nyavārayan
niyacchantaḥ śaravrātaiḥ mattam dvipam iva aṅkuśaiḥ
9. anye śūrasenānām śūrāḥ tam saṃkhye aṅkuśaiḥ mattam
dvipam iva śaravrātaiḥ niyacchantaḥ nyavārayan
9. Other heroes among the Śūrasenas held him back in battle, restraining him with volleys of arrows just as a maddened elephant is controlled with goads.
तान्न्यवारयदायस्तान्मुहूर्तमिव सात्यकिः ।
ततः कलिङ्गैर्युयुधे सोऽचिन्त्यबलविक्रमः ॥१०॥
10. tānnyavārayadāyastānmuhūrtamiva sātyakiḥ ,
tataḥ kaliṅgairyuyudhe so'cintyabalavikramaḥ.
10. tān nyavārayat āyastān muhūrtam iva sātyakiḥ
tataḥ kalingaiḥ yuyudhe saḥ acintyabalavikramaḥ
10. acintyabalavikramaḥ saḥ sātyakiḥ tān āyastān
muhūrtam iva nyavārayat tataḥ kalingaiḥ yuyudhe
10. Sātyaki, possessing inconceivable strength and valor (acintyabalavikrama), checked those exhausted (āyasta) warriors for only a moment. After that, he fought against the Kalingas.
तां च सेनामतिक्रम्य कलिङ्गानां दुरत्ययाम् ।
अथ पार्थं महाबाहुर्धनंजयमुपासदत् ॥११॥
11. tāṁ ca senāmatikramya kaliṅgānāṁ duratyayām ,
atha pārthaṁ mahābāhurdhanaṁjayamupāsadat.
11. tām ca senām atikramya kalingānām duratyayām
atha pārtham mahābāhuḥ dhanañjayam upāsadat
11. atha duratyayām kalingānām tām senām atikramya,
mahābāhuḥ pārtham dhanañjayam upāsadat
11. And having overcome that insurmountable army of the Kalingas, the mighty-armed one then approached Partha Dhananjaya.
तरन्निव जले श्रान्तो यथा स्थलमुपेयिवान् ।
तं दृष्ट्वा पुरुषव्याघ्रं युयुधानः समाश्वसत् ॥१२॥
12. taranniva jale śrānto yathā sthalamupeyivān ,
taṁ dṛṣṭvā puruṣavyāghraṁ yuyudhānaḥ samāśvasat.
12. taran iva jale śrāntaḥ yathā sthalam upeyivān
tam dṛṣṭvā puruṣavyāghram yuyudhānaḥ samāśvasat
12. yathā jale taran iva śrāntaḥ sthalam upeyivān,
[tathā] tam puruṣavyāghram dṛṣṭvā yuyudhānaḥ samāśvasat
12. Just as one who is exhausted, as if swimming in water, reaches dry land, similarly, having seen that tiger among men (puruṣavyāghra), Yuyudhana felt relieved.
तमायान्तमभिप्रेक्ष्य केशवोऽर्जुनमब्रवीत् ।
असावायाति शैनेयस्तव पार्थ पदानुगः ॥१३॥
13. tamāyāntamabhiprekṣya keśavo'rjunamabravīt ,
asāvāyāti śaineyastava pārtha padānugaḥ.
13. tam āyāntam abhiprekṣya keśavaḥ arjunam abravīt
asau āyāti śaineyaḥ tava pārtha padānugaḥ
13. tam āyāntam abhiprekṣya,
keśavaḥ arjunam abravīt: "pārtha,
asau tava padānugaḥ śaineyaḥ āyāti.
"
13. Having seen him approaching, Keshava (Krishna) said to Arjuna, 'O Partha, here comes this Shaineya, your follower.'
एष शिष्यः सखा चैव तव सत्यपराक्रमः ।
सर्वान्योधांस्तृणीकृत्य विजिग्ये पुरुषर्षभः ॥१४॥
14. eṣa śiṣyaḥ sakhā caiva tava satyaparākramaḥ ,
sarvānyodhāṁstṛṇīkṛtya vijigye puruṣarṣabhaḥ.
14. eṣaḥ śiṣyaḥ sakhā ca eva tava satyaparākramaḥ
sarvān yodhān tṛṇīkṛtya vijigye puruṣarṣabhaḥ
14. eṣaḥ tava śiṣyaḥ ca sakhā eva [asti],
satyaparākramaḥ puruṣarṣabhaḥ sarvān yodhān tṛṇīkṛtya vijigye.
14. This one is your disciple and indeed your friend, truly valorous. This bull among men (puruṣarṣabha) conquered all warriors, easily defeating them (literally, 'treating them as grass').
एष कौरवयोधानां कृत्वा घोरमुपद्रवम् ।
तव प्राणैः प्रियतरः किरीटिन्नेति सात्यकिः ॥१५॥
15. eṣa kauravayodhānāṁ kṛtvā ghoramupadravam ,
tava prāṇaiḥ priyataraḥ kirīṭinneti sātyakiḥ.
15. eṣaḥ kauravayodhānām kṛtvā ghoram upadravam
tava prāṇaiḥ priyataraḥ kirīṭin eti sātyakiḥ
15. kirīṭin eṣaḥ sātyakiḥ kauravayodhānām ghoram
upadravam kṛtvā tava prāṇaiḥ priyataraḥ eti
15. O Arjuna (Kiriṭin), this Saatyaki, having caused terrible harassment to the Kaurava warriors, now approaches, dearer to you than your own life.
एष द्रोणं तथा भोजं कृतवर्माणमेव च ।
कदर्थीकृत्य विशिखैः फल्गुनाभ्येति सात्यकिः ॥१६॥
16. eṣa droṇaṁ tathā bhojaṁ kṛtavarmāṇameva ca ,
kadarthīkṛtya viśikhaiḥ phalgunābhyeti sātyakiḥ.
16. eṣaḥ droṇam tathā bhojam kṛtavarmāṇam eva ca
kadarthīkṛtya viśikhaiḥ phalguna abhyeti sātyakiḥ
16. phalguna eṣaḥ sātyakiḥ droṇam tathā bhojam
kṛtavarmāṇam eva ca viśikhaiḥ kadarthīkṛtya abhyeti
16. O Arjuna (Phalguna), this Saatyaki, having humiliated Droṇa, Bhoja, and Kṛtavarman with his arrows, now approaches.
धर्मराजप्रियान्वेषी हत्वा योधान्वरान्वरान् ।
शूरश्चैव कृतास्त्रश्च फल्गुनाभ्येति सात्यकिः ॥१७॥
17. dharmarājapriyānveṣī hatvā yodhānvarānvarān ,
śūraścaiva kṛtāstraśca phalgunābhyeti sātyakiḥ.
17. dharmarājapriyānveṣī hatvā yodhān varān varān
śūraḥ ca eva kṛtāstraḥ ca phalguna abhyeti sātyakiḥ
17. phalguna sātyakiḥ dharmarājapriyānveṣī śūraḥ ca
eva kṛtāstraḥ ca varān varān yodhān hatvā abhyeti
17. O Arjuna (Phalguna), this brave and weapon-skilled Saatyaki, having slain the best warriors and seeking what is dear to King Yudhiṣṭhira (Dharmaraja), now approaches.
कृत्वा सुदुष्करं कर्म सैन्यमध्ये महाबलः ।
तव दर्शनमन्विच्छन्पाण्डवाभ्येति सात्यकिः ॥१८॥
18. kṛtvā suduṣkaraṁ karma sainyamadhye mahābalaḥ ,
tava darśanamanvicchanpāṇḍavābhyeti sātyakiḥ.
18. kṛtvā suduṣkaram karma sainyamadhye mahābalaḥ
tava darśanam anvicchan pāṇḍava abhyeti sātyakiḥ
18. pāṇḍava eṣaḥ sātyakiḥ mahābalaḥ sainyamadhye
suduṣkaram karma kṛtvā tava darśanam anvicchan abhyeti
18. O Arjuna (Pāṇḍava), this immensely powerful Saatyaki, having accomplished a very difficult feat (karma) in the midst of the army, now approaches, desiring your sight.
बहूनेकरथेनाजौ योधयित्वा महारथान् ।
आचार्यप्रमुखान्पार्थ आयात्येष हि सात्यकिः ॥१९॥
19. bahūnekarathenājau yodhayitvā mahārathān ,
ācāryapramukhānpārtha āyātyeṣa hi sātyakiḥ.
19. bahūn ekarathena ājau yodhayitvā mahārathān
ācāryapramukhān pārtha āyāti eṣa hi sātyakiḥ
19. pārtha eṣa sātyakiḥ hi ekarathena ājau
ācāryapramukhān mahārathān bahūn yodhayitvā āyāti
19. O Pārtha, Sātyaki is indeed approaching. With a single chariot, he has fought many great charioteers, foremost among whom was the preceptor (ācārya), in battle.
स्वबाहुबलमाश्रित्य विदार्य च वरूथिनीम् ।
प्रेषितो धर्मपुत्रेण पर्थैषोऽभ्येति सात्यकिः ॥२०॥
20. svabāhubalamāśritya vidārya ca varūthinīm ,
preṣito dharmaputreṇa parthaiṣo'bhyeti sātyakiḥ.
20. svabāhubalam āśritya vidārya ca varūthinīm preṣitaḥ
dharmaputreṇa pārtha eṣaḥ abhyeti sātyakiḥ
20. pārtha eṣa sātyakiḥ dharmaputreṇa preṣitaḥ
svabāhubalam āśritya ca varūthinīm vidārya abhyeti
20. O Pārtha, this Sātyaki approaches, having been sent by the son of dharma (Yudhiṣṭhira), and having relied on his own arm strength and pierced through the army.
यस्य नास्ति समो योधः कौरवेषु कथंचन ।
सोऽयमायाति कौन्तेय सात्यकिः सत्यविक्रमः ॥२१॥
21. yasya nāsti samo yodhaḥ kauraveṣu kathaṁcana ,
so'yamāyāti kaunteya sātyakiḥ satyavikramaḥ.
21. yasya na asti samaḥ yodhaḥ kauraveṣu kathaṃcana
saḥ ayam āyāti kaunteya sātyakiḥ satyavikramaḥ
21. kaunteya saḥ ayam sātyakiḥ satyavikramaḥ yodhaḥ
āyāti yasya kauraveṣu samaḥ kathaṃcana na asti
21. O son of Kuntī, this Sātyaki, whose valor is true, is approaching – a warrior whose equal is not found among the Kauravas by any means.
कुरुसैन्याद्विमुक्तो वै सिंहो मध्याद्गवामिव ।
निहत्य बहुलाः सेनाः पार्थैषोऽभ्येति सात्यकिः ॥२२॥
22. kurusainyādvimukto vai siṁho madhyādgavāmiva ,
nihatya bahulāḥ senāḥ pārthaiṣo'bhyeti sātyakiḥ.
22. kurusainyāt vimuktaḥ vai siṃhaḥ madhyāt gavām iva
nihatya bahulāḥ senāḥ pārtha eṣaḥ abhyeti sātyakiḥ
22. pārtha eṣa sātyakiḥ vai kurusainyāt gavām madhyāt
siṃhaḥ iva vimuktaḥ bahulāḥ senāḥ nihatya abhyeti
22. O Pārtha, this Sātyaki approaches, having broken free from the Kuru army like a lion from the midst of cows, and having slain many troops.
एष राजसहस्राणां वक्त्रैः पङ्कजसंनिभैः ।
आस्तीर्य वसुधां पार्थ क्षिप्रमायाति सात्यकिः ॥२३॥
23. eṣa rājasahasrāṇāṁ vaktraiḥ paṅkajasaṁnibhaiḥ ,
āstīrya vasudhāṁ pārtha kṣipramāyāti sātyakiḥ.
23. eṣaḥ rājasahasrāṇām vaktaiḥ paṅkajasannibhaiḥ
āstīrya vasudhām pārtha kṣipram āyāti sātyakiḥ
23. pārtha,
eṣaḥ sātyakiḥ rājasahasrāṇām paṅkajasannibhaiḥ vaktaiḥ vasudhām āstīrya kṣipram āyāti
23. O Pārtha, this Satyaki is quickly approaching, having covered the earth with the lotus-like faces of thousands of kings (rājās).
एष दुर्योधनं जित्वा भ्रातृभिः सहितं रणे ।
निहत्य जलसंधं च क्षिप्रमायाति सात्यकिः ॥२४॥
24. eṣa duryodhanaṁ jitvā bhrātṛbhiḥ sahitaṁ raṇe ,
nihatya jalasaṁdhaṁ ca kṣipramāyāti sātyakiḥ.
24. eṣaḥ duryodhanam jitvā bhrātṛbhiḥ sahitam raṇe
nihatya jalasandham ca kṣipram āyāti sātyakiḥ
24. eṣaḥ sātyakiḥ rane bhrātṛbhiḥ sahitam duryodhanam
jitvā ca jalasandham nihatya kṣipram āyāti
24. This Satyaki is quickly approaching, having defeated Duryodhana along with his brothers in battle, and having slain Jalasandha.
रुधिरौघवतीं कृत्वा नदीं शोणितकर्दमाम् ।
तृणवन्न्यस्य कौरव्यानेष आयाति सात्यकिः ॥२५॥
25. rudhiraughavatīṁ kṛtvā nadīṁ śoṇitakardamām ,
tṛṇavannyasya kauravyāneṣa āyāti sātyakiḥ.
25. rudhiraughavatīm kṛtvā nadīm śoṇitakardamām
tṛṇavat nyasya kauravyān eṣaḥ āyāti sātyakiḥ
25. eṣaḥ sātyakiḥ rudhiraughavatīm śoṇitakardamām nadīm kṛtvā,
kauravyān tṛṇavat nyasya āyāti
25. This Satyaki is approaching, having created a river flowing with torrents of blood and muddy with gore, and having cast down the Kauravas as if they were mere blades of grass.
ततोऽप्रहृष्टः कौन्तेयः केशवं वाक्यमब्रवीत् ।
न मे प्रियं महाबाहो यन्मामभ्येति सात्यकिः ॥२६॥
26. tato'prahṛṣṭaḥ kaunteyaḥ keśavaṁ vākyamabravīt ,
na me priyaṁ mahābāho yanmāmabhyeti sātyakiḥ.
26. tataḥ aprahṛṣṭaḥ kaunteyaḥ keśavam vākyam abravīt
na me priyam mahābāho yat mām abhyeti sātyakiḥ
26. tataḥ aprahṛṣṭaḥ kaunteyaḥ keśavam vākyam abravīt: "mahābāho,
yat sātyakiḥ mām abhyeti,
(tat) me na priyam"
26. Then, the displeased son of Kunti (Arjuna) spoke to Keshava (Krishna): 'O mighty-armed one, the fact that Satyaki is approaching me is not pleasing to me.'
न हि जानामि वृत्तान्तं धर्मराजस्य केशव ।
सात्वतेन विहीनः स यदि जीवति वा न वा ॥२७॥
27. na hi jānāmi vṛttāntaṁ dharmarājasya keśava ,
sātvatena vihīnaḥ sa yadi jīvati vā na vā.
27. na hi jānāmi vṛttāntam dharmarājasya keśava
sātvatena vihīnaḥ sa yadi jīvati vā na vā
27. keśava hi dharmarājasya vṛttāntam na jānāmi.
sātvatena vihīnaḥ sa yadi vā na vā jīvati.
27. Indeed, O Keśava, I do not know the condition of King Yudhishthira (dharma-rāja). Is he alive or not, deprived as he is of Sātvata (Sātyaki)?
एतेन हि महाबाहो रक्षितव्यः स पार्थिवः ।
तमेष कथमुत्सृज्य मम कृष्ण पदानुगः ॥२८॥
28. etena hi mahābāho rakṣitavyaḥ sa pārthivaḥ ,
tameṣa kathamutsṛjya mama kṛṣṇa padānugaḥ.
28. etena hi mahābāho rakṣitavyaḥ sa pārthivaḥ
tam eṣa katham utsṛjya mama kṛṣṇa padānugaḥ
28. mahābāho hi etena saḥ pārthivaḥ rakṣitavyaḥ.
kṛṣṇa eṣa tam utsṛjya katham mama padānugaḥ?
28. Indeed, O mighty-armed one (mahābāho), that king (Yudhishthira) should have been protected by him (Sātyaki). How can this Sātyaki, abandoning him, now follow my footsteps, O Krishna?
राजा द्रोणाय चोत्सृष्टः सैन्धवश्चानिपातितः ।
प्रत्युद्यातश्च शैनेयमेष भूरिश्रवा रणे ॥२९॥
29. rājā droṇāya cotsṛṣṭaḥ saindhavaścānipātitaḥ ,
pratyudyātaśca śaineyameṣa bhūriśravā raṇe.
29. rājā droṇāya ca utsṛṣṭaḥ saindhavaḥ ca anipātitaḥ
pratyudyātaḥ ca śaineyam eṣa bhūriśravā raṇe
29. rājā ca droṇāya utsṛṣṭaḥ saindhavaḥ ca anipātitaḥ.
eṣa bhūriśravā ca raṇe śaineyam pratyudyātaḥ.
29. The king (Yudhishthira) was abandoned to Droṇa, and Saindhava (Jayadratha) was not killed. And in battle, this Bhūriśravas attacked Śaineya (Sātyaki).
सोऽयं गुरुतरो भारः सैन्धवान्मे समाहितः ।
ज्ञातव्यश्च हि मे राजा रक्षितव्यश्च सात्यकिः ॥३०॥
30. so'yaṁ gurutaro bhāraḥ saindhavānme samāhitaḥ ,
jñātavyaśca hi me rājā rakṣitavyaśca sātyakiḥ.

jñātavyaḥ ca hi me rājā rakṣitavyaḥ ca sātyakiḥ

hi ca me rājā jñātavyaḥ,
ca sātyakiḥ rakṣitavyaḥ.
30. This very heavy burden regarding Saindhava (Jayadratha) has fallen upon me. Indeed, I must ascertain the king's (Yudhishthira's) condition, and Sātyaki must also be protected.
जयद्रथश्च हन्तव्यो लम्बते च दिवाकरः ।
श्रान्तश्चैष महाबाहुरल्पप्राणश्च सांप्रतम् ॥३१॥
31. jayadrathaśca hantavyo lambate ca divākaraḥ ,
śrāntaścaiṣa mahābāhuralpaprāṇaśca sāṁpratam.

31. Jayadratha must be killed, and the sun is setting. This mighty-armed (Arjuna) is now exhausted and has little strength.
परिश्रान्ता हयाश्चास्य हययन्ता च माधव ।
न च भूरिश्रवाः श्रान्तः ससहायश्च केशव ॥३२॥
32. pariśrāntā hayāścāsya hayayantā ca mādhava ,
na ca bhūriśravāḥ śrāntaḥ sasahāyaśca keśava.

32. His horses and charioteer are utterly exhausted, O Mādhava. But Bhuriśravas is not tired, and he is accompanied by allies, O Keśava.
अपीदानीं भवेदस्य क्षेममस्मिन्समागमे ।
कच्चिन्न सागरं तीर्त्वा सात्यकिः सत्यविक्रमः ।
गोष्पदं प्राप्य सीदेत महौजाः शिनिपुंगवः ॥३३॥
33. apīdānīṁ bhavedasya kṣemamasminsamāgame ,
kaccinna sāgaraṁ tīrtvā sātyakiḥ satyavikramaḥ ,
goṣpadaṁ prāpya sīdeta mahaujāḥ śinipuṁgavaḥ.
33. api idānīm bhavet asya kṣemam asmin
samāgame kaccit na sāgaram tīrtvā
sātyakiḥ satyavikramaḥ goṣpadam
prāpya sīdeta mahaujāḥ śinipuṅgavaḥ
33. api idānīm asya kṣemam asmin samāgame

mahaujāḥ śinipuṅgavaḥ sātyakiḥ
sāgaram tīrtvā goṣpadam prāpya sīdeta
33. Now, may he indeed be safe in this engagement? Surely, may Satyaki, the truly valorous and greatly powerful chief of the Shinī, not cross a vast ocean only to flounder in a mere cow's hoof-print?
अपि कौरवमुख्येन कृतास्त्रेण महात्मना ।
समेत्य भूरिश्रवसा स्वस्तिमान्सात्यकिर्भवेत् ॥३४॥
34. api kauravamukhyena kṛtāstreṇa mahātmanā ,
sametya bhūriśravasā svastimānsātyakirbhavet.

34. May Satyaki indeed remain safe after encountering Bhuriśravas, who is the great-souled chief of the Kauravas and highly skilled in weaponry?
व्यतिक्रममिमं मन्ये धर्मराजस्य केशव ।
आचार्याद्भयमुत्सृज्य यः प्रेषयति सात्यकिम् ॥३५॥
35. vyatikramamimaṁ manye dharmarājasya keśava ,
ācāryādbhayamutsṛjya yaḥ preṣayati sātyakim.

35. O Keśava, I consider this a transgression on the part of Dharmarāja (Yudhiṣṭhira), that he sends Satyaki, having abandoned fear of the preceptor (Droṇa).
ग्रहणं धर्मराजस्य खगः श्येन इवामिषम् ।
नित्यमाशंसते द्रोणः कच्चित्स्यात्कुशली नृपः ॥३६॥
36. grahaṇaṁ dharmarājasya khagaḥ śyena ivāmiṣam ,
nityamāśaṁsate droṇaḥ kaccitsyātkuśalī nṛpaḥ.

36. Droṇa constantly desires the capture of Dharmarāja (Yudhiṣṭhira), just as a hawk desires its prey. (He wonders) "May the king be well?"
