भीम उवाच ।
स्मरन्ति वैरं रक्षांसि मायामाश्रित्य मोहिनीम् ।
हिडिम्बे व्रज पन्थानं त्वं वै भ्रातृनिषेवितम् ॥१॥
1. bhīma uvāca ,
smaranti vairaṁ rakṣāṁsi māyāmāśritya mohinīm ,

1. Bhīma said: "Demons (rākṣasas) remember enmity and employ their deluding illusory power (māyā). O Hiḍimbā, you indeed go on the path your brother frequented."
युधिष्ठिर उवाच ।
क्रुद्धोऽपि पुरुषव्याघ्र भीम मा स्म स्त्रियं वधीः ।
शरीरगुप्त्याभ्यधिकं धर्मं गोपय पाण्डव ॥२॥
2. yudhiṣṭhira uvāca ,
kruddho'pi puruṣavyāghra bhīma mā sma striyaṁ vadhīḥ ,
śarīraguptyābhyadhikaṁ dharmaṁ gopaya pāṇḍava.

striyaṃ vadhīḥ śarīraguptyā abhyadhikaṃ dharmaṃ gopaya pāṇḍava
2. Yudhiṣṭhira said: "O Bhīma, O tiger among men, even though you are angry, do not kill a woman! O Pāṇḍava, uphold your constitution (dharma), for it is more important than protecting your own body."
वधाभिप्रायमायान्तमवधीस्त्वं महाबलम् ।
रक्षसस्तस्य भगिनी किं नः क्रुद्धा करिष्यति ॥३॥
3. vadhābhiprāyamāyāntamavadhīstvaṁ mahābalam ,
rakṣasastasya bhaginī kiṁ naḥ kruddhā kariṣyati.
3. vadha abhiprāyam āyāntam avadhīḥ tvaṃ mahābalam
rakṣasaḥ tasya bhaginī kiṃ naḥ kruddhā kariṣyati
3. You killed that greatly powerful demon (rākṣasa) who came with the intention of killing us. What can his angry sister do to us?
वैशंपायन उवाच ।
हिडिम्बा तु ततः कुन्तीमभिवाद्य कृताञ्जलिः ।
युधिष्ठिरं च कौन्तेयमिदं वचनमब्रवीत् ॥४॥
4. vaiśaṁpāyana uvāca ,
hiḍimbā tu tataḥ kuntīmabhivādya kṛtāñjaliḥ ,
yudhiṣṭhiraṁ ca kaunteyamidaṁ vacanamabravīt.
4. vaiśaṃpāyana uvāca hiḍimbā tu tataḥ kuntīm abhivādya
kṛtāñjaliḥ yudhiṣṭhiraṃ ca kaunteyam idaṃ vacanam abravīt
4. Vaiśaṃpāyana said: "Then Hiḍimbā, having respectfully greeted Kuntī and Yudhiṣṭhira, the son of Kuntī, with folded hands, spoke these words."
आर्ये जानासि यद्दुःखमिह स्त्रीणामनङ्गजम् ।
तदिदं मामनुप्राप्तं भीमसेनकृतं शुभे ॥५॥
5. ārye jānāsi yadduḥkhamiha strīṇāmanaṅgajam ,
tadidaṁ māmanuprāptaṁ bhīmasenakṛtaṁ śubhe.
5. ārye jānāsi yat duḥkham iha strīṇām anaṅgajam
| tat idam mām anuprāptam bhīmasenakṛtam śubhe
5. O noble lady, you know the sorrow that women experience here, born of love. That very sorrow, caused by Bhimasena, has now come upon me, O auspicious one.
सोढं तत्परमं दुःखं मया कालप्रतीक्षया ।
सोऽयमभ्यागतः कालो भविता मे सुखाय वै ॥६॥
6. soḍhaṁ tatparamaṁ duḥkhaṁ mayā kālapratīkṣayā ,
so'yamabhyāgataḥ kālo bhavitā me sukhāya vai.
6. soḍham tat paramam duḥkham mayā kālapratīkṣayā |
saḥ ayam abhyāgataḥ kālaḥ bhavitā me sukhāya vai
6. That supreme sorrow was endured by me with patience, waiting for the right time. Now, that very time has arrived, and it will surely be for my happiness.
मया ह्युत्सृज्य सुहृदः स्वधर्मं स्वजनं तथा ।
वृतोऽयं पुरुषव्याघ्रस्तव पुत्रः पतिः शुभे ॥७॥
7. mayā hyutsṛjya suhṛdaḥ svadharmaṁ svajanaṁ tathā ,
vṛto'yaṁ puruṣavyāghrastava putraḥ patiḥ śubhe.
7. mayā hi utsṛjya suhṛdaḥ svadharmam svajanam tathā
| vṛtaḥ ayam puruṣavyāghraḥ tava putraḥ patiḥ śubhe
7. Indeed, by me, having abandoned my friends, my own constitution (dharma), and my own family, this tiger among men, your son, was chosen as my husband, O auspicious one.
वरेणापि तथानेन त्वया चापि यशस्विनि ।
तथा ब्रुवन्ती हि तदा प्रत्याख्याता क्रियां प्रति ॥८॥
8. vareṇāpi tathānena tvayā cāpi yaśasvini ,
tathā bruvantī hi tadā pratyākhyātā kriyāṁ prati.
8. vareṇa api tathā anena tvayā ca api yaśasvini |
tathā bruvantī hi tadā pratyākhyātā kriyām prati
8. And by this boon (vara), O glorious one, and also by you, when I spoke thus at that time, I was rejected concerning the ritual action.
त्वं मां मूढेति वा मत्वा भक्ता वानुगतेति वा ।
भर्त्रानेन महाभागे संयोजय सुतेन ते ॥९॥
9. tvaṁ māṁ mūḍheti vā matvā bhaktā vānugateti vā ,
bhartrānena mahābhāge saṁyojaya sutena te.
9. tvam mām mūḍhā iti vā matvā bhaktā vā anugatā iti
vā | bhartrā anena mahābhāge saṃyojaya sutena te
9. O fortunate one, considering me either foolish, or devoted, or obedient, please unite me with this husband, your son.
तमुपादाय गच्छेयं यथेष्टं देवरूपिणम् ।
पुनश्चैवागमिष्यामि विश्रम्भं कुरु मे शुभे ॥१०॥
10. tamupādāya gaccheyaṁ yatheṣṭaṁ devarūpiṇam ,
punaścaivāgamiṣyāmi viśrambhaṁ kuru me śubhe.
10. tam upādāya gaccheyam yatheṣṭam devarūpiṇam
punaḥ ca eva āgamiṣyāmi viśrambham kuru me śubhe
10. I will take him, who has a divine form, and go wherever I desire. And I will certainly return again, so have trust in me, O auspicious one.
अहं हि मनसा ध्याता सर्वान्नेष्यामि वः सदा ।
वृजिने तारयिष्यामि दुर्गेषु च नरर्षभान् ॥११॥
11. ahaṁ hi manasā dhyātā sarvānneṣyāmi vaḥ sadā ,
vṛjine tārayiṣyāmi durgeṣu ca nararṣabhān.
11. aham hi manasā dhyātā sarvān neṣyāmi vaḥ sadā
vṛjine tārayiṣyāmi durgeṣu ca nararṣabhān
11. Indeed, I, being meditated upon in the mind, will always lead all of you. I will rescue the best among men from distress and from difficult situations.
पृष्ठेन वो वहिष्यामि शीघ्रां गतिमभीप्सतः ।
यूयं प्रसादं कुरुत भीमसेनो भजेत माम् ॥१२॥
12. pṛṣṭhena vo vahiṣyāmi śīghrāṁ gatimabhīpsataḥ ,
yūyaṁ prasādaṁ kuruta bhīmaseno bhajeta mām.
12. pṛṣṭhena vaḥ vahiṣyāmi śīghrām gatim abhīpsataḥ
yūyam prasādam kuruta bhīmasenaḥ bhajeta mām
12. I will carry you on my back, you who desire swift progress. You should grant your favor, and Bhimasena should resort to me.
आपदस्तरणे प्राणान्धारयेद्येन येन हि ।
सर्वमादृत्य कर्तव्यं तद्धर्ममनुवर्तता ॥१३॥
13. āpadastaraṇe prāṇāndhārayedyena yena hi ,
sarvamādṛtya kartavyaṁ taddharmamanuvartatā.
13. āpadaḥ taraṇe prāṇān dhārayed yena yena hi
sarvam ādṛtya kartavyam tat dharmam anuvartatā
13. Indeed, in order to overcome calamity, one should preserve their life by any means whatsoever. Everything must be done with respect by one who follows that intrinsic nature (dharma).
आपत्सु यो धारयति धर्मं धर्मविदुत्तमः ।
व्यसनं ह्येव धर्मस्य धर्मिणामापदुच्यते ॥१४॥
14. āpatsu yo dhārayati dharmaṁ dharmaviduttamaḥ ,
vyasanaṁ hyeva dharmasya dharmiṇāmāpaducyate.
14. āpatsu yaḥ dhārayati dharmam dharmaviduttamaḥ
vyasanam hi eva dharmasya dharmiṇām āpat ucyate
14. He who, as the best among the knowers of natural law (dharma), upholds natural law (dharma) even in calamities – it is indeed said that the misfortune befalling those who uphold natural law (dharma) is the very calamity of natural law (dharma) itself.
पुण्यं प्राणान्धारयति पुण्यं प्राणदमुच्यते ।
येन येनाचरेद्धर्मं तस्मिन्गर्हा न विद्यते ॥१५॥
15. puṇyaṁ prāṇāndhārayati puṇyaṁ prāṇadamucyate ,
yena yenācareddharmaṁ tasmingarhā na vidyate.
15. puṇyam prāṇān dhārayati puṇyam prāṇadam ucyate
yena yena ācaret dharmam tasmin garhā na vidyate
15. Merit (puṇya) sustains the vital breaths (prāṇas) and is called life-giving. Whatever one does to practice one's natural law (dharma), there is no blame in that.
युधिष्ठिर उवाच ।
एवमेतद्यथात्थ त्वं हिडिम्बे नात्र संशयः ।
स्थातव्यं तु त्वया धर्मे यथा ब्रूयां सुमध्यमे ॥१६॥
16. yudhiṣṭhira uvāca ,
evametadyathāttha tvaṁ hiḍimbe nātra saṁśayaḥ ,
sthātavyaṁ tu tvayā dharme yathā brūyāṁ sumadhyame.
16. yudhiṣṭhiraḥ uvāca evam etat
yathā āttha tvam hiḍimbe na atra
saṃśayaḥ sthātavyam tu tvayā
dharme yathā brūyām sumadhyame
16. Yudhiṣṭhira said: "This is indeed so, just as you have said, Hiḍimbā. There is no doubt in this. But you must remain in the natural law (dharma) as I shall instruct, O fair-waisted one."
स्नातं कृताह्निकं भद्रे कृतकौतुकमङ्गलम् ।
भीमसेनं भजेथास्त्वं प्रागस्तगमनाद्रवेः ॥१७॥
17. snātaṁ kṛtāhnikaṁ bhadre kṛtakautukamaṅgalam ,
bhīmasenaṁ bhajethāstvaṁ prāgastagamanādraveḥ.
17. snātam kṛta āhnikam bhadre kṛta kautuka maṅgalam
bhīmasenam bhajethāḥ tvam prāk asta gamanāt raveḥ
17. "O blessed one (bhadre), you should resort to Bhīmasena after he has bathed, performed his daily rites, and completed the auspicious protective ceremonies (kautukamangala), before the setting of the sun."
अहःसु विहरानेन यथाकामं मनोजवा ।
अयं त्वानयितव्यस्ते भीमसेनः सदा निशि ॥१८॥
18. ahaḥsu viharānena yathākāmaṁ manojavā ,
ayaṁ tvānayitavyaste bhīmasenaḥ sadā niśi.
18. ahaḥsu vihara anena yathākāmam manojavā
ayam tu ānayitavyaḥ te bhīmasenaḥ sadā niśi
18. "During the day, roam around with him, as you desire, O swift-minded one. But this Bhīmasena must always be brought back by you at night."
वैशंपायन उवाच ।
तथेति तत्प्रतिज्ञाय हिडिम्बा राक्षसी तदा ।
भीमसेनमुपादाय ऊर्ध्वमाचक्रमे ततः ॥१९॥
19. vaiśaṁpāyana uvāca ,
tatheti tatpratijñāya hiḍimbā rākṣasī tadā ,
bhīmasenamupādāya ūrdhvamācakrame tataḥ.
19. vaiśaṃpāyanaḥ uvāca tathā iti tat pratijñāya hiḍimbā
rākṣasī tadā bhīmasenam upādāya ūrdhvam ācakrame tataḥ
19. Vaiśaṃpāyana said: "Having assented with 'So be it!', the demoness Hiḍimbā then, taking Bhīmasena with her, rose upwards from there."
शैलशृङ्गेषु रम्येषु देवतायतनेषु च ।
मृगपक्षिविघुष्टेषु रमणीयेषु सर्वदा ॥२०॥
20. śailaśṛṅgeṣu ramyeṣu devatāyataneṣu ca ,
mṛgapakṣivighuṣṭeṣu ramaṇīyeṣu sarvadā.
20. śailaśṛṅgeṣu ramyeṣu devatāyataneṣu ca
mṛgapakṣividhuṣṭeṣu ramaṇīyeṣu sarvadā
20. She always wandered in delightful mountain peaks, in temples of deities, and in charming places resounding with the cries of animals and birds.
कृत्वा च परमं रूपं सर्वाभरणभूषिता ।
संजल्पन्ती सुमधुरं रमयामास पाण्डवम् ॥२१॥
21. kṛtvā ca paramaṁ rūpaṁ sarvābharaṇabhūṣitā ,
saṁjalpantī sumadhuraṁ ramayāmāsa pāṇḍavam.
21. kṛtvā ca paramaṃ rūpaṃ sarvābharaṇabhūṣitā
saṃjalpantī sumadhuraṃ ramayāmāsa pāṇḍavam
21. Having assumed a supreme form, adorned with all ornaments, and conversing very sweetly, she delighted the Pāṇḍava.
तथैव वनदुर्गेषु पुष्पितद्रुमसानुषु ।
सरःसु रमणीयेषु पद्मोत्पलयुतेषु च ॥२२॥
22. tathaiva vanadurgeṣu puṣpitadrumasānuṣu ,
saraḥsu ramaṇīyeṣu padmotpalayuteṣu ca.
22. tathaiva vanadurgeṣu puṣpitadrumasānuṣu
saraḥsu ramaṇīyeṣu padmautpalayuteṣu ca
22. Likewise, she wandered in forest fortresses, on flower-laden tree-clad slopes, in charming lakes, and in those filled with lotuses and water lilies.
नदीद्वीपप्रदेशेषु वैडूर्यसिकतासु च ।
सुतीर्थवनतोयासु तथा गिरिनदीषु च ॥२३॥
23. nadīdvīpapradeśeṣu vaiḍūryasikatāsu ca ,
sutīrthavanatoyāsu tathā girinadīṣu ca.
23. nadīdvīpapradeśeṣu vaiḍūryasikatāsu ca
sutīrthavanatoyāsu tathā girinadīṣu ca
23. She wandered in regions of river islands, on sands sparkling like cat's eye gems, in forests near good fords or with clear waters, and likewise in mountain rivers.
सगरस्य प्रदेशेषु मणिहेमचितेषु च ।
पत्तनेषु च रम्येषु महाशालवनेषु च ॥२४॥
24. sagarasya pradeśeṣu maṇihemaciteṣu ca ,
pattaneṣu ca ramyeṣu mahāśālavaneṣu ca.
24. sagarasya pradeśeṣu maṇihemaciteṣu ca
pattaneṣu ca ramyeṣu mahāśālavaneṣu ca
24. She wandered in the regions of Sagara, in those adorned with jewels and gold, and in charming cities, and in great Sāla forests.
देवारण्येषु पुण्येषु तथा पर्वतसानुषु ।
गुह्यकानां निवासेषु तापसायतनेषु च ॥२५॥
25. devāraṇyeṣu puṇyeṣu tathā parvatasānuṣu ,
guhyakānāṁ nivāseṣu tāpasāyataneṣu ca.
25. devarāṇyeṣu puṇyeṣu tathā parvatasānuṣu
guhyakānām nivāseṣu tāpasāyataneṣu ca
25. In the sacred groves of the gods and on auspicious mountain slopes, in the dwelling places of the Guhyakas, and in the hermitages of ascetics.
सर्वर्तुफलपुष्पेषु मानसेषु सरःसु च ।
बिभ्रती परमं रूपं रमयामास पाण्डवम् ॥२६॥
26. sarvartuphalapuṣpeṣu mānaseṣu saraḥsu ca ,
bibhratī paramaṁ rūpaṁ ramayāmāsa pāṇḍavam.
26. sarvartuphalapuṣpeṣu mānaseṣu saraḥsu ca
bibhratī paramam rūpam ramayāmāsa pāṇḍavam
26. And in lakes like Mānasa, adorned with fruits and flowers of all seasons, she, bearing a supreme form, sported with the Pāṇḍava (Bhīma).
रमयन्ती तथा भीमं तत्र तत्र मनोजवा ।
प्रजज्ञे राक्षसी पुत्रं भीमसेनान्महाबलम् ॥२७॥
27. ramayantī tathā bhīmaṁ tatra tatra manojavā ,
prajajñe rākṣasī putraṁ bhīmasenānmahābalam.
27. ramayantī tathā bhīmam tatra tatra manojavā
prajajñe rākṣasī putram bhīmasenāt mahābalam
27. And delighting Bhīma here and there, the swift-minded rākṣasī (Hiḍimbā) gave birth to a mighty son from Bhīmasena.
विरूपाक्षं महावक्त्रं शङ्कुकर्णं विभीषणम् ।
भीमरूपं सुताम्रोष्ठं तीक्ष्णदंष्ट्रं महाबलम् ॥२८॥
28. virūpākṣaṁ mahāvaktraṁ śaṅkukarṇaṁ vibhīṣaṇam ,
bhīmarūpaṁ sutāmroṣṭhaṁ tīkṣṇadaṁṣṭraṁ mahābalam.
28. virūpākṣam mahāvaktram śaṅkukarṇam vibhīṣaṇam
bhīmarūpam sutāmroṣṭham tīkṣṇadaṃṣṭram mahābalam
28. He was misshapen-eyed, large-mouthed, conch-eared, and terrifying. He had a formidable appearance, very red lips, sharp fangs, and was immensely strong.
महेष्वासं महावीर्यं महासत्त्वं महाभुजम् ।
महाजवं महाकायं महामायमरिंदमम् ॥२९॥
29. maheṣvāsaṁ mahāvīryaṁ mahāsattvaṁ mahābhujam ,
mahājavaṁ mahākāyaṁ mahāmāyamariṁdamam.
29. mahāiṣvāsam mahāvīryam mahāsattvam mahābhujam
mahājavam mahākāyam mahāmāyam arimdamam
29. He was a great archer, immensely valorous, possessing great inner strength, and having mighty arms. He had great speed, an enormous body, immense power of illusion (māyā), and was a subduer of enemies.
अमानुषं मानुषजं भीमवेगं महाबलम् ।
यः पिशाचानतीवान्यान्बभूवाति स मानुषान् ॥३०॥
30. amānuṣaṁ mānuṣajaṁ bhīmavegaṁ mahābalam ,
yaḥ piśācānatīvānyānbabhūvāti sa mānuṣān.
30. amānuṣam mānuṣajam bhīmavegam mahābalam yaḥ
piśācān atīva anyān babhūva ati saḥ mānuṣān
30. Though born of a human, he was superhuman, possessing dreadful speed and immense strength. He greatly surpassed other demons and even humans.
बालोऽपि यौवनं प्राप्तो मानुषेषु विशां पते ।
सर्वास्त्रेषु परं वीरः प्रकर्षमगमद्बली ॥३१॥
31. bālo'pi yauvanaṁ prāpto mānuṣeṣu viśāṁ pate ,
sarvāstreṣu paraṁ vīraḥ prakarṣamagamadbalī.
31. bālaḥ api yauvanam prāptaḥ mānuṣeṣu viśām pate
sarvāstreṣu param vīraḥ prakarṣam agamat balī
31. O lord of the people, even as a child, having quickly attained youth among humans, that mighty hero achieved supreme excellence in all weapons.
सद्यो हि गर्भं राक्षस्यो लभन्ते प्रसवन्ति च ।
कामरूपधराश्चैव भवन्ति बहुरूपिणः ॥३२॥
32. sadyo hi garbhaṁ rākṣasyo labhante prasavanti ca ,
kāmarūpadharāścaiva bhavanti bahurūpiṇaḥ.
32. sadyaḥ hi garbham rākṣasyaḥ labhante prasavanti
ca kāmarūpadharāḥ ca eva bhavanti bahurūpiṇaḥ
32. Indeed, demonesses quickly conceive and give birth. Moreover, being able to assume forms at will, they manifest in many shapes.
प्रणम्य विकचः पादावगृह्णात्स पितुस्तदा ।
मातुश्च परमेष्वासस्तौ च नामास्य चक्रतुः ॥३३॥
33. praṇamya vikacaḥ pādāvagṛhṇātsa pitustadā ,
mātuśca parameṣvāsastau ca nāmāsya cakratuḥ.
33. praṇamya vikacaḥ pādau agṛhṇāt saḥ pituḥ tadā
mātuḥ ca parameṣvāsaḥ tau ca nāma asya cakratuḥ
33. Having bowed, Vikaca then grasped the feet of his father and mother. Those two—his father, the great archer, and his mother—then bestowed a name upon him.
घटभासोत्कच इति मातरं सोऽभ्यभाषत ।
अभवत्तेन नामास्य घटोत्कच इति स्म ह ॥३४॥
34. ghaṭabhāsotkaca iti mātaraṁ so'bhyabhāṣata ,
abhavattena nāmāsya ghaṭotkaca iti sma ha.
34. ghaṭabhāsotkaca iti mātaram saḥ abhyabhāṣata
abhavat tena nāma asya ghaṭotkaca iti sma ha
34. He, known as "Ghatabhāsotkaca" (with pot-like radiance and peculiar hair/baldness), addressed his mother. And by this (description), his name indeed became Ghatotkacha.
अनुरक्तश्च तानासीत्पाण्डवान्स घटोत्कचः ।
तेषां च दयितो नित्यमात्मभूतो बभूव सः ॥३५॥
35. anuraktaśca tānāsītpāṇḍavānsa ghaṭotkacaḥ ,
teṣāṁ ca dayito nityamātmabhūto babhūva saḥ.
35. anuraktaḥ ca tān āsīt pāṇḍavān saḥ ghaṭotkacaḥ
teṣām ca dayitaḥ nityam ātma-bhūtaḥ babhūva saḥ
35. Ghaṭotkaca was devoted to those Pāṇḍavas. He was always dear to them and became like their own self (ātman).
संवाससमयो जीर्ण इत्यभाषत तं ततः ।
हिडिम्बा समयं कृत्वा स्वां गतिं प्रत्यपद्यत ॥३६॥
36. saṁvāsasamayo jīrṇa ityabhāṣata taṁ tataḥ ,
hiḍimbā samayaṁ kṛtvā svāṁ gatiṁ pratyapadyata.
36. saṃvāsasamayaḥ jīrṇaḥ iti abhāṣata tam tataḥ
hiḍimbā samayam kṛtvā svām gatim prati apadyata
36. Then, she (Hiḍimbā) said to him (Bhīma), "The period of our cohabitation (samaya) is completed." Having thus fulfilled her agreement (samaya), Hiḍimbā departed on her own way.
कृत्यकाल उपस्थास्ये पितॄनिति घटोत्कचः ।
आमन्त्र्य राक्षसश्रेष्ठः प्रतस्थे चोत्तरां दिशम् ॥३७॥
37. kṛtyakāla upasthāsye pitṝniti ghaṭotkacaḥ ,
āmantrya rākṣasaśreṣṭhaḥ pratasthe cottarāṁ diśam.
37. kṛtyakālaḥ upa-sthāsye pitṝn iti ghaṭotkacaḥ āmantrya
rākṣasa-śreṣṭhaḥ pra-tasthe ca uttarām diśam
37. "I will be present for my fathers at the appointed time (kāla)," said Ghaṭotkaca. Having taken leave, that foremost of Rākṣasas departed towards the northern direction.
स हि सृष्टो मघवता शक्तिहेतोर्महात्मना ।
कर्णस्याप्रतिवीर्यस्य विनाशाय महात्मनः ॥३८॥
38. sa hi sṛṣṭo maghavatā śaktihetormahātmanā ,
karṇasyāprativīryasya vināśāya mahātmanaḥ.
38. saḥ hi sṛṣṭaḥ maghavatā śakti-hetoḥ mahā-ātmanā
karṇasya a-prativīryasya vināśāya mahā-ātmanaḥ
38. Indeed, he was created by the great-souled Indra (Maghavat) for the purpose of a powerful weapon (śakti), for the destruction of the mighty Karṇa, whose valor was unparalleled.
