अर्जुन उवाच ।
कथमस्मद्धितार्थं ते कैश्च योगैर्जनार्दन ।
जरासंधप्रभृतयो घातिताः पृथिवीष्वराः ॥१॥
1. arjuna uvāca ,
kathamasmaddhitārthaṁ te kaiśca yogairjanārdana ,
jarāsaṁdhaprabhṛtayo ghātitāḥ pṛthivīṣvarāḥ.

1. Arjuna said: 'O Janārdana, how and by what means (yoga) were kings headed by Jarāsandha killed for our welfare?'
वासुदेव उवाच ।
जरासंधश्चेदिराजो नैषादिश्च महाबलः ।
यदि स्युर्न हताः पूर्वमिदानीं स्युर्भयंकराः ॥२॥
2. vāsudeva uvāca ,
jarāsaṁdhaścedirājo naiṣādiśca mahābalaḥ ,
yadi syurna hatāḥ pūrvamidānīṁ syurbhayaṁkarāḥ.
2. vāsudevaḥ uvāca jarāsandhaḥ cedirājaḥ naiṣādiḥ ca
mahābalaḥ yadi syuḥ na hatāḥ pūrvam idānīm syuḥ bhayaṃkarāḥ

2. Vāsudeva said: 'If Jarāsandha, the King of Cedi, and the mighty Naiṣāda had not been killed before, they would now be terrifying.'
सुयोधनस्तानवश्यं वृणुयाद्रथसत्तमान् ।
तेऽस्माभिर्नित्यसंदुष्टाः संश्रयेयुश्च कौरवान् ॥३॥
3. suyodhanastānavaśyaṁ vṛṇuyādrathasattamān ,
te'smābhirnityasaṁduṣṭāḥ saṁśrayeyuśca kauravān.
3. suyodhanaḥ tān avaśyam vṛṇuyāt rathasattamān te
asmābhiḥ nityasanduṣṭāḥ saṃśrayeyuḥ ca kauravān
3. suyodhanaḥ tān rathasattamān avaśyam vṛṇuyāt ca
te asmābhiḥ nityasanduṣṭāḥ kauravān saṃśrayeyuḥ
3. Suyodhana would surely choose those excellent charioteers. And they, being always discontent with us, would certainly take refuge with the Kauravas.
ते हि वीरा महात्मानः कृतास्त्रा दृढयोधिनः ।
धार्तराष्ट्रीं चमूं कृत्स्नां रक्षेयुरमरा इव ॥४॥
4. te hi vīrā mahātmānaḥ kṛtāstrā dṛḍhayodhinaḥ ,
dhārtarāṣṭrīṁ camūṁ kṛtsnāṁ rakṣeyuramarā iva.
4. te hi vīrāḥ mahā-ātmānaḥ kṛta-astrāḥ dṛḍha-yodhinaḥ
dhārtarāṣṭrīm camūm kṛtsnām rakṣeyuḥ amarāḥ iva
4. hi te mahā-ātmānaḥ kṛta-astrāḥ dṛḍha-yodhinaḥ vīrāḥ
kṛtsnām dhārtarāṣṭrīm camūm amarāḥ iva rakṣeyuḥ
4. Indeed, those great-souled (mahā-ātman) heroes, skilled in weapons and resolute fighters, would protect the entire army of Dhṛtarāṣṭra as if they were immortals.
सूतपुत्रो जरासंधश्चेदिराजो निषादजः ।
सुयोधनं समाश्रित्य तपेरन्पृथिवीमिमाम् ॥५॥
5. sūtaputro jarāsaṁdhaścedirājo niṣādajaḥ ,
suyodhanaṁ samāśritya taperanpṛthivīmimām.
5. sūtaputraḥ jarāsaṃdhaḥ cedirājaḥ niṣādajaḥ
suyodhanam samāśritya taperan pṛthivīm imām
5. sūtaputraḥ jarāsaṃdhaḥ cedirājaḥ niṣādajaḥ
suyodhanam samāśritya imām pṛthivīm taperan
5. Sūtaputra (Karṇa), Jarāsaṃdha, Chedirāja (Śiśupāla), and Niṣādaja (Ekalavya), by relying on Suyodhana (Duryodhana), would torment this earth.
योगैरपि हता यैस्ते तान्मे शृणु धनंजय ।
अजय्या हि विना योगैर्मृधे ते दैवतैरपि ॥६॥
6. yogairapi hatā yaiste tānme śṛṇu dhanaṁjaya ,
ajayyā hi vinā yogairmṛdhe te daivatairapi.
6. yogaiḥ api hatāḥ yaiḥ te tān me śṛṇu dhanaṃjaya
ajayyāḥ hi vinā yogaiḥ mṛdhe te daivataiḥ api
6. dhanaṃjaya yaiḥ yogaiḥ api hatāḥ te tān me śṛṇu
hi te vinā yogaiḥ mṛdhe daivataiḥ api ajayyāḥ
6. O Dhanañjaya, hear from me about those (warriors) by whom (others) were defeated even with (the help of) strategies (yoga). For, without (proper) strategies (yoga), they (these warriors) are unconquerable even by the gods in battle.
एकैको हि पृथक्तेषां समस्तां सुरवाहिनीम् ।
योधयेत्समरे पार्थ लोकपालाभिरक्षिताम् ॥७॥
7. ekaiko hi pṛthakteṣāṁ samastāṁ suravāhinīm ,
yodhayetsamare pārtha lokapālābhirakṣitām.
7. ekai-ekaḥ hi pṛthak teṣām samastām sura-vāhinīm
yodhayeat samare pārtha lokapāla-abhirakṣitām
7. pārtha hi teṣām ekai-ekaḥ pṛthak lokapāla-abhirakṣitām
samastām sura-vāhinīm samare yodhayeat
7. Indeed, O Pārtha (Arjuna), each one of them separately would fight the entire army of the gods, even though it is protected by the world-guardians, in battle.
जरासंधो हि रुषितो रौहिणेयप्रधर्षितः ।
अस्मद्वधार्थं चिक्षेप गदां वै लोहितामुखीम् ॥८॥
8. jarāsaṁdho hi ruṣito rauhiṇeyapradharṣitaḥ ,
asmadvadhārthaṁ cikṣepa gadāṁ vai lohitāmukhīm.
8. jarāsaṃdhaḥ hi ruṣitaḥ rauhiṇeyapradharṣitaḥ
asmadvadhārtham cikṣepa gadām vai lohitāmukhīm
8. rauhiṇeyapradharṣitaḥ ruṣitaḥ hi jarāsaṃdhaḥ
asmadvadhārtham lohitāmukhīm gadām vai cikṣepa
8. Jarasandha, indeed enraged because he had been insulted by the son of Rohiṇī (Balarāma), truly threw a reddish-hued mace for our destruction.
सीमन्तमिव कुर्वाणां नभसः पावकप्रभाम् ।
व्यदृश्यतापतन्ती सा शक्रमुक्ता यथाशनिः ॥९॥
9. sīmantamiva kurvāṇāṁ nabhasaḥ pāvakaprabhām ,
vyadṛśyatāpatantī sā śakramuktā yathāśaniḥ.
9. sīmantam iva kurvāṇām nabhasaḥ pāvakaprabhām
vyadṛśyata āpatantī sā śakramuktā yathā aśaniḥ
9. pāvakaprabhām nabhasaḥ sīmantam iva kurvāṇām
sā āpatantī śakramuktā aśaniḥ yathā vyadṛśyata
9. That falling (mace), possessing the brilliance of fire, was seen as if making a parting line in the sky, like a thunderbolt released by Indra.
तामापतन्तीं दृष्ट्वैव गदां रोहिणिनन्दनः ।
प्रतिघातार्थमस्त्रं वै स्थूणाकर्णमवासृजत् ॥१०॥
10. tāmāpatantīṁ dṛṣṭvaiva gadāṁ rohiṇinandanaḥ ,
pratighātārthamastraṁ vai sthūṇākarṇamavāsṛjat.
10. tām āpatantīm dṛṣṭvā eva gadām rohiṇīnandanaḥ
pratighātārtham astram vai sthūṇākarṇam avāsṛjat
10. rohiṇīnandanaḥ āpatantīm tām gadām dṛṣṭvā eva
pratighātārtham sthūṇākarṇam astram vai avāsṛjat
10. Immediately upon seeing that falling mace, the son of Rohiṇī (Balarāma) indeed released the Sthūṇākarṇa weapon for its counteraction.
अस्त्रवेगप्रतिहता सा गदा प्रापतद्भुवि ।
दारयन्ती धरां देवीं कम्पयन्तीव पर्वतान् ॥११॥
11. astravegapratihatā sā gadā prāpatadbhuvi ,
dārayantī dharāṁ devīṁ kampayantīva parvatān.
11. astravegapratihatā sā gadā prāpatat bhuvi
dārayantī dharām devīm kampayantī iva parvatān
11. astravegapratihatā sā gadā dharām devīm
dārayantī parvatān kampayantī iva bhuvi prāpatat
11. That mace, repelled by the force of the weapon, fell to the ground, splitting the goddess Earth and seemingly shaking the mountains.
तत्र स्म राक्षसी घोरा जरा नामाशुविक्रमा ।
संधयामास तं जातं जरासंधमरिंदमम् ॥१२॥
12. tatra sma rākṣasī ghorā jarā nāmāśuvikramā ,
saṁdhayāmāsa taṁ jātaṁ jarāsaṁdhamariṁdamam.
12. tatra sma rākṣasī ghorā jarā nāma āśuvikramā
sandhayāmāsa tam jātam jarāsaṃdham ariṃdamam
12. tatra ghorā āśuvikramā jarā nāma rākṣasī sma
tam jātam ariṃdamam jarāsaṃdham sandhayāmāsa
12. Then, a dreadful female demon (rākṣasī) named Jarā, known for her swift prowess, joined together that newborn, Jarāsaṃdha, the vanquisher of foes.
द्वाभ्यां जातो हि मातृभ्यामर्धदेहः पृथक्पृथक् ।
तया स संधितो यस्माज्जरासंधस्ततः स्मृतः ॥१३॥
13. dvābhyāṁ jāto hi mātṛbhyāmardhadehaḥ pṛthakpṛthak ,
tayā sa saṁdhito yasmājjarāsaṁdhastataḥ smṛtaḥ.
13. dvābhyām jātaḥ hi mātṛbhyām ardhadahaḥ pṛthakpṛthak
tayā saḥ saṃdhitaḥ yasmāt jarāsaṃdhaḥ tataḥ smṛtaḥ
13. hi saḥ dvābhyām mātṛbhyām pṛthakpṛthak ardhadahaḥ jātaḥ.
yasmāt tayā saṃdhitaḥ,
tataḥ jarāsaṃdhaḥ smṛtaḥ
13. Indeed, he was born in two separate half-bodies, from two mothers. Because he was joined together by that demoness (Jarā), he is therefore known as Jarāsaṃdha.
सा तु भूमिगता पार्थ हता ससुतबान्धवा ।
गदया तेन चास्त्रेण स्थूणाकर्णेन राक्षसी ॥१४॥
14. sā tu bhūmigatā pārtha hatā sasutabāndhavā ,
gadayā tena cāstreṇa sthūṇākarṇena rākṣasī.
14. sā tu bhūmigatā pārtha hatā sasutabāndhavā
gadayā tena ca astreṇa sthūṇākarṇena rākṣasī
14. pārtha,
tu sā rākṣasī sasutabāndhavā bhūmigatā,
tena astreṇa gadayā sthūṇākarṇena ca hatā
14. But that demoness (rākṣasī), O Pārtha (Arjuna), fell to the ground, slain with her sons and relatives, by that weapon, the mace named Sthūṇākarṇa.
विनाभूतः स गदया जरासंधो महामृधे ।
निहतो भीमसेनेन पश्यतस्ते धनंजय ॥१५॥
15. vinābhūtaḥ sa gadayā jarāsaṁdho mahāmṛdhe ,
nihato bhīmasenena paśyataste dhanaṁjaya.
15. vinābhūtaḥ saḥ gadayā jarāsaṃdhaḥ mahāmṛdhe
nihataḥ bhīmasenena paśyataḥ te dhanaṃjaya
15. dhanaṃjaya,
te paśyataḥ,
saḥ jarāsaṃdhaḥ gadayā vinābhūtaḥ,
mahāmṛdhe bhīmasenena nihataḥ
15. O Dhanaṃjaya (Arjuna), while you were watching, Jarāsaṃdha, deprived of his mace, was slain by Bhīmasena in that great battle.
यदि हि स्याद्गदापाणिर्जरासंधः प्रतापवान् ।
सेन्द्रा देवा न तं हन्तुं रणे शक्ता नरोत्तम ॥१६॥
16. yadi hi syādgadāpāṇirjarāsaṁdhaḥ pratāpavān ,
sendrā devā na taṁ hantuṁ raṇe śaktā narottama.
16. yadi hi syāt gadāpāṇiḥ jarāsaṃdhaḥ pratāpavān
sendrāḥ devāḥ na tam hantum raṇe śaktāḥ narottama
16. narottama yadi gadāpāṇiḥ pratāpavān jarāsaṃdhaḥ
hi syāt sendrāḥ devāḥ tam raṇe hantum na śaktāḥ
16. O best of men, if Jarasandha, mace-in-hand and mighty, were present, even the gods, along with Indra, would not be able to kill him in battle.
त्वद्धितार्थं हि नैषादिरङ्गुष्ठेन वियोजितः ।
द्रोणेनाचार्यकं कृत्वा छद्मना सत्यविक्रमः ॥१७॥
17. tvaddhitārthaṁ hi naiṣādiraṅguṣṭhena viyojitaḥ ,
droṇenācāryakaṁ kṛtvā chadmanā satyavikramaḥ.
17. tvaddhitārtham hi naiṣādiḥ aṅguṣṭhena viyojitaḥ
droṇena ācāryakam kṛtvā chadmānā satyavikramaḥ
17. hi tvaddhitārtham satyavikramaḥ naiṣādiḥ droṇena
chadmānā ācāryakam kṛtvā aṅguṣṭhena viyojitaḥ
17. Indeed, for your benefit, the truly valorous Niṣāda (Ekalavya) was deprived of his thumb by Droṇa, who, through deception, claimed the authority of a preceptor (guru).
स तु बद्धाङ्गुलित्राणो नैषादिर्दृढविक्रमः ।
अस्यन्नेको वनचरो बभौ राम इवापरः ॥१८॥
18. sa tu baddhāṅgulitrāṇo naiṣādirdṛḍhavikramaḥ ,
asyanneko vanacaro babhau rāma ivāparaḥ.
18. saḥ tu baddhāṅgulitrāṇaḥ naiṣādiḥ dṛḍhavikramaḥ
asyan ekaḥ vanacaraḥ babhau rāmaḥ iva aparaḥ
18. tu saḥ naiṣādiḥ dṛḍhavikramaḥ baddhāṅgulitrāṇaḥ
ekaḥ vanacaraḥ asyan aparaḥ rāmaḥ iva babhau
18. But that Niṣāda (Ekalavya), who was firm in valor and wore a finger-guard, appeared like another Rama as he, a solitary forest-dweller, discharged arrows.
एकलव्यं हि साङ्गुष्ठमशक्ता देवदानवाः ।
सराक्षसोरगाः पार्थ विजेतुं युधि कर्हिचित् ॥१९॥
19. ekalavyaṁ hi sāṅguṣṭhamaśaktā devadānavāḥ ,
sarākṣasoragāḥ pārtha vijetuṁ yudhi karhicit.
19. ekalavyam hi sāṅguṣṭham aśaktāḥ devadānavāḥ
sarākṣasoragāḥ pārtha vijetum yudhi karhicit
19. hi pārtha devadānavāḥ sarākṣasoragāḥ sāṅguṣṭham
ekalavyam yudhi vijetum karhicit aśaktāḥ
19. Indeed, O Pārtha (Arjuna), the gods and demons, along with the rākṣasas and nagas, would never have been able to defeat Ekalavya in battle if he still possessed his thumb.
किमु मानुषमात्रेण शक्यः स्यात्प्रतिवीक्षितुम् ।
दृढमुष्टिः कृती नित्यमस्यमानो दिवानिशम् ॥२०॥
20. kimu mānuṣamātreṇa śakyaḥ syātprativīkṣitum ,
dṛḍhamuṣṭiḥ kṛtī nityamasyamāno divāniśam.
20. kimu mānuṣamātreṇa śakyaḥ syāt prativīkṣitum
dṛḍhamuṣṭiḥ kṛtī nityam asyamānaḥ divāniśam
20. kimu mānuṣamātreṇa dṛḍhamuṣṭiḥ kṛtī nityam
divāniśam asyamānaḥ prativīkṣitum śakyaḥ syāt
20. Indeed, can a mere human possibly confront [him], who is firm-fisted, skillful, and constantly battling day and night?
त्वद्धितार्थं तु स मया हतः संग्राममूर्धनि ।
चेदिराजश्च विक्रान्तः प्रत्यक्षं निहतस्तव ॥२१॥
21. tvaddhitārthaṁ tu sa mayā hataḥ saṁgrāmamūrdhani ,
cedirājaśca vikrāntaḥ pratyakṣaṁ nihatastava.
21. tvaddhitārtham tu saḥ mayā hataḥ saṅgrāmamūrdhani
cedirājaḥ ca vikrāntaḥ pratyakṣam nihataḥ tava
21. tu mayā tvaddhitārtham saḥ saṅgrāmamūrdhani hataḥ
ca vikrāntaḥ cedirājaḥ tava pratyakṣam nihataḥ
21. Indeed, for your welfare, he was killed by me at the forefront of battle. And the valorous King of Cedi was also killed directly, before your very eyes.
स चाप्यशक्यः संग्रामे जेतुं सर्वैः सुरासुरैः ।
वधार्थं तस्य जातोऽहमन्येषां च सुरद्विषाम् ॥२२॥
22. sa cāpyaśakyaḥ saṁgrāme jetuṁ sarvaiḥ surāsuraiḥ ,
vadhārthaṁ tasya jāto'hamanyeṣāṁ ca suradviṣām.
22. saḥ ca api aśakyaḥ saṅgrāme jetum sarvaiḥ surāsuraiḥ
vadhārtham tasya jātaḥ aham anyeṣām ca suradviṣām
22. ca saḥ api saṅgrāme sarvaiḥ surāsuraiḥ jetum aśakyaḥ
aham tasya anyeṣām ca suradviṣām vadhārtham jātaḥ
22. And he, indeed, cannot be conquered in battle even by all the gods and demons. I was born for his destruction and for the destruction of other enemies of the gods.
त्वत्सहायो नरव्याघ्र लोकानां हितकाम्यया ।
हिडिम्बबककिर्मीरा भीमसेनेन पातिताः ।
रावणेन समप्राणा ब्रह्मयज्ञविनाशनाः ॥२३॥
23. tvatsahāyo naravyāghra lokānāṁ hitakāmyayā ,
hiḍimbabakakirmīrā bhīmasenena pātitāḥ ,
rāvaṇena samaprāṇā brahmayajñavināśanāḥ.
23. tvatsahāyaḥ naravyāghra lokānām
hitakāmyayā hiḍimbabakakirmīrāḥ
bhīmasenena pātitāḥ rāvaṇena
samaprāṇāḥ brahmayajñavināśanāḥ
23. naravyāghra [tvam] tvatsahāyaḥ,
lokānām hitakāmyayā,
rāvaṇena samaprāṇāḥ brahmayajñavināśanāḥ hiḍimbabakakirmīrāḥ bhīmasenena pātitāḥ
23. O tiger among men! With your assistance and for the welfare of the worlds, Hiḍimba, Baka, and Kirmīra—who were as formidable as Rāvaṇa and destroyers of sacred rites (yajña)—were slain by Bhīmasena.
हतस्तथैव मायावी हैडिम्बेनाप्यलायुधः ।
हैडिम्बश्चाप्युपायेन शक्त्या कर्णेन घातितः ॥२४॥
24. hatastathaiva māyāvī haiḍimbenāpyalāyudhaḥ ,
haiḍimbaścāpyupāyena śaktyā karṇena ghātitaḥ.
24. hataḥ tathaiva māyāvī haiḍimbena api alāyudhaḥ |
haiḍimbaḥ ca api upāyena śaktyā karṇena ghātitaḥ
24. māyāvī alāyudhaḥ haiḍimbena api tathaiva hataḥ
haiḍimbaḥ ca api upāyena karṇena śaktyā ghātitaḥ
24. The illusionist (māyāvī) Alayudha was likewise slain by the son of Hiḍimbā (Ghaṭotkaca). And the son of Hiḍimbā (Ghaṭotkaca) too was killed by Karṇa through an expedient (upāya) with his missile (śakti).
यदि ह्येनं नाहनिष्यत्कर्णः शक्त्या महामृधे ।
मया वध्योऽभविष्यत्स भैमसेनिर्घटोत्कचः ॥२५॥
25. yadi hyenaṁ nāhaniṣyatkarṇaḥ śaktyā mahāmṛdhe ,
mayā vadhyo'bhaviṣyatsa bhaimasenirghaṭotkacaḥ.
25. yadi hi enam na ahaniṣyat karṇaḥ śaktyā mahāmṛdhe |
mayā vadhyaḥ abhaviṣyat saḥ bhaimaseniḥ ghaṭotkacaḥ
25. yadi hi karṇaḥ mahāmṛdhe śaktyā enam na ahaniṣyat
saḥ bhaimaseniḥ ghaṭotkacaḥ mayā vadhyaḥ abhaviṣyat
25. Indeed, if Karṇa had not slain him in the great battle (mahāmṛdhe) with his missile (śakti), then that Ghaṭotkaca, son of Bhīmasena, would have been slain by me.
मया न निहतः पूर्वमेष युष्मत्प्रियेप्सया ।
एष हि ब्राह्मणद्वेषी यज्ञद्वेषी च राक्षसः ॥२६॥
26. mayā na nihataḥ pūrvameṣa yuṣmatpriyepsayā ,
eṣa hi brāhmaṇadveṣī yajñadveṣī ca rākṣasaḥ.
26. mayā na nihataḥ pūrvam eṣa yuṣmatpriyepsayā
| eṣa hi brāhmaṇadveṣī yajñadveṣī ca rākṣasaḥ
26. pūrvam eṣa mayā yuṣmatpriyepsayā na nihataḥ
hi eṣa rākṣasaḥ brāhmaṇadveṣī ca yajñadveṣī
26. Previously, he was not slain by me out of a desire for your well-being. For this demon (rākṣasa) is indeed a hater of brahmins and a hater of sacrificial rites (yajña).
धर्मस्य लोप्ता पापात्मा तस्मादेष निपातितः ।
व्यंसिता चाप्युपायेन शक्रदत्ता मयानघ ॥२७॥
27. dharmasya loptā pāpātmā tasmādeṣa nipātitaḥ ,
vyaṁsitā cāpyupāyena śakradattā mayānagha.
27. dharmasya loptā pāpātmā tasmāt eṣa nipātitaḥ |
vyansitā ca api upāyena śakradattā mayā anagha
27. eṣa dharmasya loptā pāpātmā tasmāt nipātitaḥ anagha,
ca api śakradattā mayā upāyena vyansitā
27. He, an evil-souled transgressor of natural law (dharma), was therefore slain. And O sinless one, the missile (śakti) given by Indra (Śakra) was also wasted by me through an expedient (upāya).
ये हि धर्मस्य लोप्तारो वध्यास्ते मम पाण्डव ।
धर्मसंस्थापनार्थं हि प्रतिज्ञैषा ममाव्यया ॥२८॥
28. ye hi dharmasya loptāro vadhyāste mama pāṇḍava ,
dharmasaṁsthāpanārthaṁ hi pratijñaiṣā mamāvyayā.
28. ye hi dharmasya loptāraḥ vadhyāḥ te mama pāṇḍava
dharmasaṃsthāpanārtham hi pratijñā eṣā mama avyayā
28. ye hi dharmasya loptāraḥ te mama vadhyāḥ pāṇḍava
hi dharmasaṃsthāpanārtham mama eṣā avyayā pratijñā
28. Indeed, those who are violators of the natural law (dharma) are to be slain by me, O Pāṇḍava. For the re-establishment of the natural law (dharma), this vow of mine is indeed imperishable.
ब्रह्म सत्यं दमः शौचं धर्मो ह्रीः श्रीर्धृतिः क्षमा ।
यत्र तत्र रमे नित्यमहं सत्येन ते शपे ॥२९॥
29. brahma satyaṁ damaḥ śaucaṁ dharmo hrīḥ śrīrdhṛtiḥ kṣamā ,
yatra tatra rame nityamahaṁ satyena te śape.

kṣamā yatra tatra rame nityam aham satyena te śape

29. The ultimate reality (brahman), truth, self-control, purity, natural law (dharma), modesty, prosperity, steadfastness, and forgiveness—wherever these qualities exist, there I perpetually delight. I swear this to you by the truth.
न विषादस्त्वया कार्यः कर्णं वैकर्तनं प्रति ।
उपदेक्ष्याम्युपायं ते येन तं प्रसहिष्यसि ॥३०॥
30. na viṣādastvayā kāryaḥ karṇaṁ vaikartanaṁ prati ,
upadekṣyāmyupāyaṁ te yena taṁ prasahiṣyasi.
30. na viṣādaḥ tvayā kāryaḥ karṇam vaikartanam prati
upadekṣyāmi upāyam te yena tam prasahiṣyasi
30. tvayā viṣādaḥ na kāryaḥ vaikartanam karṇam prati
te upadekṣyāmi upāyam yena tam prasahiṣyasi
30. You should not feel despair concerning Karṇa, the son of Vīkartana. I will instruct you in a means by which you shall overcome him.
सुयोधनं चापि रणे हनिष्यति वृकोदरः ।
तस्य चापि वधोपायं वक्ष्यामि तव पाण्डव ॥३१॥
31. suyodhanaṁ cāpi raṇe haniṣyati vṛkodaraḥ ,
tasya cāpi vadhopāyaṁ vakṣyāmi tava pāṇḍava.
31. suyodhanam ca api raṇe haniṣyati vṛkodaraḥ
tasya ca api vadhopāyam vakṣyāmi tava pāṇḍava
31. vṛkodaraḥ suyodhanam ca api raṇe haniṣyati ca
api tava vadhopāyam tasya vakṣyāmi pāṇḍava
31. And Vṛkodara will slay Suyodhana in battle. I will also tell you, O Pāṇḍava, the means for his killing.
वर्धते तुमुलस्त्वेष शब्दः परचमूं प्रति ।
विद्रवन्ति च सैन्यानि त्वदीयानि दिशो दश ॥३२॥
32. vardhate tumulastveṣa śabdaḥ paracamūṁ prati ,
vidravanti ca sainyāni tvadīyāni diśo daśa.
32. vardhate tumulaḥ tu eṣaḥ śabdaḥ paracamūm prati
vidravanti ca sainyāni tvadīyāni diśaḥ daśa
32. eṣaḥ tumulaḥ śabdaḥ paracamūm prati vardhate
ca tvadīyāni sainyāni daśa diśaḥ vidravanti
32. Indeed, that tumultuous sound against the enemy army is increasing. And your armies are fleeing in all ten directions.
लब्धलक्ष्या हि कौरव्या विधमन्ति चमूं तव ।
दहत्येष च वः सैन्यं द्रोणः प्रहरतां वरः ॥३३॥
33. labdhalakṣyā hi kauravyā vidhamanti camūṁ tava ,
dahatyeṣa ca vaḥ sainyaṁ droṇaḥ praharatāṁ varaḥ.
33. labdhalakṣyāḥ hi kauravyāḥ vidhamanti camūm tava
dahati eṣaḥ ca vaḥ sainyam droṇaḥ praharatām varaḥ
33. labdhalakṣyāḥ hi kauravyāḥ tava camūm vidhamanti
ca eṣaḥ praharatām varaḥ droṇaḥ vaḥ sainyam dahati
33. Indeed, the Kuru warriors, having achieved their aim, are destroying your army. And Drona, the best of warriors, is burning your army.
