के पूज्याः के नमस्कार्या मानवैर्भरतर्षभ ।
विस्तरेण तदाचक्ष्व न हि तृप्यामि कथ्यताम् ॥१॥

1. Yudhiṣṭhira said: 'O best of Bharatas, who among humans are worthy of veneration, and who are worthy of salutation? Please narrate that in detail, for I am certainly not satisfied. Let it be explained.'
भीष्म उवाच ।
अत्राप्युदाहरन्तीममितिहासं पुरातनम् ।
नारदस्य च संवादं वासुदेवस्य चोभयोः ॥२॥
2. bhīṣma uvāca ,
atrāpyudāharantīmamitihāsaṁ purātanam ,
nāradasya ca saṁvādaṁ vāsudevasya cobhayoḥ.

purātanam nāradasya ca saṃvādam vāsudevasya ca ubhayoḥ

2. Bhīṣma said: 'In this regard, they also narrate this ancient story (itihāsa): the conversation between Nārada and Vāsudeva (Kṛṣṇa), a dialogue between both of them.'
नारदं प्राञ्जलिं दृष्ट्वा पूजयानं द्विजर्षभान् ।
केशवः परिपप्रच्छ भगवन्कान्नमस्यसि ॥३॥
3. nāradaṁ prāñjaliṁ dṛṣṭvā pūjayānaṁ dvijarṣabhān ,
keśavaḥ paripapraccha bhagavankānnamasyasi.

3. Having seen Nārada with folded hands, revering the eminent brahmins, Keśava (Kṛṣṇa) asked him: 'O venerable one, whom are you saluting?'
बहुमानः परः केषु भवतो यान्नमस्यसि ।
शक्यं चेच्छ्रोतुमिच्छामि ब्रूह्येतद्धर्मवित्तम ॥४॥
4. bahumānaḥ paraḥ keṣu bhavato yānnamasyasi ,
śakyaṁ cecchrotumicchāmi brūhyetaddharmavittama.

cet śrotum icchāmi brūhi etat dharma-vittama

4. Towards whom do you show such great reverence that you bow down to them? If it is possible, I wish to hear this. Please explain this to me, O best among those who understand (dharma).
नारद उवाच ।
शृणु गोविन्द यानेतान्पूजयाम्यरिमर्दन ।
त्वत्तोऽन्यः कः पुमाँल्लोके श्रोतुमेतदिहार्हति ॥५॥
5. nārada uvāca ,
śṛṇu govinda yānetānpūjayāmyarimardana ,
tvatto'nyaḥ kaḥ pumāँlloke śrotumetadihārhati.
5. nāradaḥ uvāca śṛṇu govinda yān etān pūjayāmi arimardana
tvattaḥ anyaḥ kaḥ pumān loke śrotum etat iha arhati
5. nāradaḥ uvāca he govinda,
he arimardana,
yān etān pūjayāmi,
(tat) śṛṇu tvattaḥ anyaḥ kaḥ pumān loke etat iha śrotum arhati?
5. Nārada said: Listen, O Govinda, O vanquisher of foes, to those whom I venerate. Who else in this world is worthy of hearing this, besides you?
वरुणं वायुमादित्यं पर्जन्यं जातवेदसम् ।
स्थाणुं स्कन्दं तथा लक्ष्मीं विष्णुं ब्रह्माणमेव च ॥६॥
6. varuṇaṁ vāyumādityaṁ parjanyaṁ jātavedasam ,
sthāṇuṁ skandaṁ tathā lakṣmīṁ viṣṇuṁ brahmāṇameva ca.

skandam tathā lakṣmīm viṣṇum brahmāṇam eva ca

6. Varuṇa, Vāyu, Āditya, Parjanya, and Jātavedas (Agni); Sthāṇu (Śiva), Skanda, and also Lakṣmī, Viṣṇu, and Brahmā.
वाचस्पतिं चन्द्रमसमपः पृथ्वीं सरस्वतीम् ।
सततं ये नमस्यन्ति तान्नमस्याम्यहं विभो ॥७॥
7. vācaspatiṁ candramasamapaḥ pṛthvīṁ sarasvatīm ,
satataṁ ye namasyanti tānnamasyāmyahaṁ vibho.
7. vācaspatim candramasam apaḥ pṛthvīm sarasvatīm
satatam ye namasyanti tān namasyāmi aham vibho
7. vibho,
ye vācaspatim candramasam apaḥ pṛthvīm sarasvatīm satatam namasyanti,
tān aham namasyāmi
7. Vācaspati, Candramas (the Moon god), the Waters, Pṛthvī (the Earth goddess), and Sarasvatī – those who constantly venerate them, I also venerate them, O almighty one.
तपोधनान्वेदविदो नित्यं वेदपरायणान् ।
महार्हान्वृष्णिशार्दूल सदा संपूजयाम्यहम् ॥८॥
8. tapodhanānvedavido nityaṁ vedaparāyaṇān ,
mahārhānvṛṣṇiśārdūla sadā saṁpūjayāmyaham.
8. tapodhanān vedavidaḥ nityaṃ vedaparāyaṇān
mahārhān vṛṣṇiśārdūla sadā saṃpūjayāmi aham
8. vṛṣṇiśārdūla aham nityaṃ sadā tapodhanān
vedavidaḥ vedaparāyaṇān mahārhān saṃpūjayāmi
8. O best of the Vṛṣṇis, I always honor those who possess asceticism (tapas) as their wealth, who are knowers of the Vedas, constantly devoted to the Vedas, and are highly esteemed.
अभुक्त्वा देवकार्याणि कुर्वते येऽविकत्थनाः ।
संतुष्टाश्च क्षमायुक्तास्तान्नमस्याम्यहं विभो ॥९॥
9. abhuktvā devakāryāṇi kurvate ye'vikatthanāḥ ,
saṁtuṣṭāśca kṣamāyuktāstānnamasyāmyahaṁ vibho.
9. abhuktvā devakāryāṇi kurvate ye avikatthanaḥ
saṃtuṣṭāḥ ca kṣamāyuktāḥ tān namasyāmi aham vibho
9. vibho aham tān namasyāmi ye abhuktvā devakāryāṇi
kurvate avikatthanaḥ saṃtuṣṭāḥ ca kṣamāyuktāḥ
9. O mighty one, I bow to those who, without seeking personal enjoyment, perform divine duties, are humble, contented, and possess patience.
सम्यग्ददति ये चेष्टान्क्षान्ता दान्ता जितेन्द्रियाः ।
सस्यं धनं क्षितिं गाश्च तान्नमस्यामि यादव ॥१०॥
10. samyagdadati ye ceṣṭānkṣāntā dāntā jitendriyāḥ ,
sasyaṁ dhanaṁ kṣitiṁ gāśca tānnamasyāmi yādava.
10. samyak dadati ye ca iṣṭān kṣāntāḥ dāntāḥ jitendriyāḥ
sasyaṃ dhanaṃ kṣitiṃ gāḥ ca tān namasyāmi yādava
10. yādava aham tān namasyāmi ye samyak iṣṭān sasyaṃ
dhanaṃ kṣitiṃ gāḥ ca dadati kṣāntāḥ dāntāḥ jitendriyāḥ
10. O descendant of Yadu, I revere those who rightly give desired gifts - be it grain, wealth, land, or cows - and who are patient, self-controlled, and have mastered their senses.
ये ते तपसि वर्तन्ते वने मूलफलाशनाः ।
असंचयाः क्रियावन्तस्तान्नमस्यामि यादव ॥११॥
11. ye te tapasi vartante vane mūlaphalāśanāḥ ,
asaṁcayāḥ kriyāvantastānnamasyāmi yādava.
11. ye te tapasi vartante vane mūlaphalāśanāḥ
asaṃcayāḥ kriyāvantāḥ tān namasyāmi yādava
11. yādava aham tān namasyāmi ye vane tapasi
vartante mūlaphalāśanāḥ asaṃcayāḥ kriyāvantāḥ
11. O descendant of Yadu, I revere those who dwell in the forest, practicing asceticism (tapas), subsisting on roots and fruits, who are free from accumulation, and who are diligently active.
ये भृत्यभरणे सक्ताः सततं चातिथिप्रियाः ।
भुञ्जन्ते देवशेषाणि तान्नमस्यामि यादव ॥१२॥
12. ye bhṛtyabharaṇe saktāḥ satataṁ cātithipriyāḥ ,
bhuñjante devaśeṣāṇi tānnamasyāmi yādava.
12. ye bhṛtyabharaṇe saktāḥ satataṃ ca atithipriyāḥ
bhuñjante devaśeṣāṇi tān namasyāmi yādava
12. yādava ye bhṛtyabharaṇe saktāḥ satataṃ ca
atithipriyāḥ devaśeṣāṇi bhuñjante tān namasyāmi
12. O Yādava, I pay homage to those who are always engaged in the maintenance of their dependents, are fond of guests, and partake only of the remnants from offerings made to the deities.
ये वेदं प्राप्य दुर्धर्षा वाग्मिनो ब्रह्मवादिनः ।
याजनाध्यापने युक्ता नित्यं तान्पूजयाम्यहम् ॥१३॥
13. ye vedaṁ prāpya durdharṣā vāgmino brahmavādinaḥ ,
yājanādhyāpane yuktā nityaṁ tānpūjayāmyaham.
13. ye vedam prāpya durdharṣāḥ vāgminaḥ brahmavādinaḥ
yājanādhyāpane yuktāḥ nityam tān pūjayāmi aham
13. aham nityam tān pūjayāmi ye vedam prāpya durdharṣāḥ
vāgminaḥ brahmavādinaḥ yājanādhyāpane yuktāḥ
13. I always worship those who, having obtained the Veda, are formidable, eloquent speakers, expounders of the ultimate reality (brahman), and are constantly engaged in performing Vedic rituals (yajña) and teaching.
प्रसन्नहृदयाश्चैव सर्वसत्त्वेषु नित्यशः ।
आ पृष्ठतापात्स्वाध्याये युक्तास्तान्पूजयाम्यहम् ॥१४॥
14. prasannahṛdayāścaiva sarvasattveṣu nityaśaḥ ,
ā pṛṣṭhatāpātsvādhyāye yuktāstānpūjayāmyaham.
14. prasannahṛdayāḥ ca eva sarvasattveṣu nityaśaḥ ā
pṛṣṭhatāpāt svādhyāye yuktāḥ tān pūjayāmi aham
14. aham tān pūjayāmi ye ca eva sarvasattveṣu nityaśaḥ
prasannahṛdayāḥ svādhyāye ā pṛṣṭhatāpāt yuktāḥ
14. I worship those who are always gracious at heart towards all beings and are engaged in self-study (svādhyāya) until their backs are scorched by the sun.
गुरुप्रसादे स्वाध्याये यतन्ते ये स्थिरव्रताः ।
शुश्रूषवोऽनसूयन्तस्तान्नमस्यामि यादव ॥१५॥
15. guruprasāde svādhyāye yatante ye sthiravratāḥ ,
śuśrūṣavo'nasūyantastānnamasyāmi yādava.
15. guruprasāde svādhyāye yatante ye sthiravratāḥ
śuśrūṣavaḥ anasūyantaḥ tān namasyāmi yādava
15. yādava tān namasyāmi ye guruprasāde svādhyāye
yatante sthiravratāḥ śuśrūṣavaḥ anasūyantaḥ
15. O Yādava, I pay homage to those who are steadfast in their observances, who strive in their sacred study (svādhyāya) with the grace of their teacher (guru), and who are obedient and free from fault-finding.
सुव्रता मुनयो ये च ब्रह्मण्याः सत्यसंगराः ।
वोढारो हव्यकव्यानां तान्नमस्यामि यादव ॥१६॥
16. suvratā munayo ye ca brahmaṇyāḥ satyasaṁgarāḥ ,
voḍhāro havyakavyānāṁ tānnamasyāmi yādava.
16. suvratāḥ munayaḥ ye ca brahmaṇyāḥ satyasaṅgarāḥ
voḍhāraḥ havyakavyānām tān namasyāmi yādava
16. yādava ye munayaḥ suvratāḥ ca brahmaṇyāḥ
satyasaṅgarāḥ havyakavyānām voḍhāraḥ tān namasyāmi
16. O Yādava, I salute those sages who are firm in their observances, devoted to the sacred (brahman), truthful in their commitments, and who are the performers of offerings for the gods and ancestors.
भैक्ष्यचर्यासु निरताः कृशा गुरुकुलाश्रयाः ।
निःसुखा निर्धना ये च तान्नमस्यामि यादव ॥१७॥
17. bhaikṣyacaryāsu niratāḥ kṛśā gurukulāśrayāḥ ,
niḥsukhā nirdhanā ye ca tānnamasyāmi yādava.
17. bhaikṣyacaryāsu niratāḥ kṛśāḥ gurukulāśrayāḥ
niḥsukhāḥ nirdhanāḥ ye ca tān namasyāmi yādava
17. yādava ye bhaikṣyacaryāsu niratāḥ kṛśāḥ
gurukulāśrayāḥ ca niḥsukhāḥ nirdhanāḥ tān namasyāmi
17. O Yādava, I salute those who are engaged in begging for alms, who are emaciated, who reside in a teacher's (guru) household, and who are devoid of comfort and wealth.
निर्ममा निष्प्रतिद्वंद्वा निर्ह्रीका निष्प्रयोजनाः ।
अहिंसानिरता ये च ये च सत्यव्रता नराः ।
दान्ताः शमपराश्चैव तान्नमस्यामि केशव ॥१८॥
18. nirmamā niṣpratidvaṁdvā nirhrīkā niṣprayojanāḥ ,
ahiṁsāniratā ye ca ye ca satyavratā narāḥ ,
dāntāḥ śamaparāścaiva tānnamasyāmi keśava.
18. nirmamāḥ niṣpratidvandvāḥ nirhrīkāḥ
niṣprayojanāḥ ahiṃsāniratāḥ ye ca
ye ca satyavratāḥ narāḥ dāntāḥ
śamaparāḥ ca eva tān namasyāmi keśava
18. keśava ye narāḥ nirmamāḥ niṣpratidvandvāḥ
nirhrīkāḥ niṣprayojanāḥ ca
ahiṃsāniratāḥ ye ca satyavratāḥ
dāntāḥ ca eva śamaparāḥ tān namasyāmi
18. O Keśava, I salute those people who are free from possessiveness, unburdened by dualities, unconcerned with social judgments, free from personal aims, devoted to non-violence (ahiṃsā), truthful in their observances, self-controlled, and supremely dedicated to inner peace.
देवतातिथिपूजायां प्रसक्ता गृहमेधिनः ।
कपोतवृत्तयो नित्यं तान्नमस्यामि यादव ॥१९॥
19. devatātithipūjāyāṁ prasaktā gṛhamedhinaḥ ,
kapotavṛttayo nityaṁ tānnamasyāmi yādava.
19. devatātithipūjāyām prasaktāḥ gṛhamedhinaḥ
kapotavṛttayaḥ nityam tān namasyāmi yādava
19. yādava ye gṛhamedhinaḥ devatātithipūjāyām
prasaktāḥ nityam kapotavṛttayaḥ tān namasyāmi
19. O Yādava, I salute those householders who are constantly dedicated to the veneration of deities and guests, and who live with the simple and non-hoarding nature of a pigeon.
येषां त्रिवर्गः कृत्येषु वर्तते नोपहीयते ।
शिष्टाचारप्रवृत्ताश्च तान्नमस्याम्यहं सदा ॥२०॥
20. yeṣāṁ trivargaḥ kṛtyeṣu vartate nopahīyate ,
śiṣṭācārapravṛttāśca tānnamasyāmyahaṁ sadā.
20. yeṣām trivargaḥ kṛtyeṣu vartate na upahīyate
śiṣṭācāraprāvṛttāḥ ca tān namasyāmi aham sadā
20. aham sadā yeṣām kṛtyeṣu trivargaḥ vartate na
upahīyate ca śiṣṭācāraprāvṛttāḥ tān namasyāmi
20. I always revere those in whose endeavors the three aims of human life - righteous conduct (dharma), prosperity, and pleasure - are fully maintained and never diminished, and who are devoted to noble conduct.
ब्राह्मणास्त्रिषु लोकेषु ये त्रिवर्गमनुष्ठिताः ।
अलोलुपाः पुण्यशीलास्तान्नमस्यामि केशव ॥२१॥
21. brāhmaṇāstriṣu lokeṣu ye trivargamanuṣṭhitāḥ ,
alolupāḥ puṇyaśīlāstānnamasyāmi keśava.
21. brāhmaṇāḥ triṣu lokeṣu ye trivargam anuṣṭhitāḥ
alolupāḥ puṇyaśīlāḥ tān namasyāmi keśava
21. keśava triṣu lokeṣu ye brāhmaṇāḥ trivargam
anuṣṭhitāḥ alolupāḥ puṇyaśīlāḥ tān namasyāmi
21. O Keśava, I revere those brahmins in the three worlds who are devoted to the three aims of human life - righteous conduct (dharma), prosperity, and pleasure - who are free from greed, and are of virtuous character.
अब्भक्षा वायुभक्षाश्च सुधाभक्षाश्च ये सदा ।
व्रतैश्च विविधैर्युक्तास्तान्नमस्यामि माधव ॥२२॥
22. abbhakṣā vāyubhakṣāśca sudhābhakṣāśca ye sadā ,
vrataiśca vividhairyuktāstānnamasyāmi mādhava.
22. abbhakṣāḥ vāyubhakṣāḥ ca sudhābhakṣāḥ ca ye sadā
vrataiḥ ca vividhaiḥ yuktāḥ tān namasyāmi mādhava
22. mādhava sadā ye abbhakṣāḥ ca vāyubhakṣāḥ ca
sudhābhakṣāḥ ca vividhaiḥ vrataiḥ yuktāḥ tān namasyāmi
22. O Mādhava, I always revere those who subsist only on water, on air, or on ambrosia, and who are dedicated to various sacred vows.
अयोनीनग्नियोनींश्च ब्रह्मयोनींस्तथैव च ।
सर्वभूतात्मयोनींश्च तान्नमस्याम्यहं द्विजान् ॥२३॥
23. ayonīnagniyonīṁśca brahmayonīṁstathaiva ca ,
sarvabhūtātmayonīṁśca tānnamasyāmyahaṁ dvijān.
23. ayonīn agniyonīn ca brahmayonīn tathā eva ca
sarvabhūtātmayonīn ca tān namasyāmi aham dvijān
23. aham ayonīn ca agniyonīn ca brahmayonīn tathā
eva ca sarvabhūtātmayonīn ca tān dvijān namasyāmi
23. I revere those twice-born (dvija) who are unborn, those whose origin is fire, those whose origin is the ultimate reality (brahman), and likewise those whose origin is the inner self (ātman) of all beings.
नित्यमेतान्नमस्यामि कृष्ण लोककरानृषीन् ।
लोकज्येष्ठाञ्ज्ञाननिष्ठांस्तमोघ्नाँल्लोकभास्करान् ॥२४॥
24. nityametānnamasyāmi kṛṣṇa lokakarānṛṣīn ,
lokajyeṣṭhāñjñānaniṣṭhāṁstamoghnāँllokabhāskarān.
24. nityam etān namasyāmi kṛṣṇa lokakarān ṛṣīn
lokajyeṣṭhān jñānaniṣṭhān tamoghnān lokabhāskarān
24. kṛṣṇa nityam etān lokakarān lokajyeṣṭhān
jñānaniṣṭhān tamoghnān lokabhāskarān ṛṣīn namasyāmi
24. O Kṛṣṇa, I constantly bow down to these sages who are the creators of the world, the foremost among people, steadfast in wisdom (jñāna), the dispellers of darkness, and the illuminators of the world.
तस्मात्त्वमपि वार्ष्णेय द्विजान्पूजय नित्यदा ।
पूजिताः पूजनार्हा हि सुखं दास्यन्ति तेऽनघ ॥२५॥
25. tasmāttvamapi vārṣṇeya dvijānpūjaya nityadā ,
pūjitāḥ pūjanārhā hi sukhaṁ dāsyanti te'nagha.
25. tasmāt tvam api vārṣṇeya dvijān pūjaya nityadā
pūjitāḥ pūjanārhāḥ hi sukham dāsyanti te anagha
25. vārṣṇeya anagha tasmāt tvam api nityadā dvijān
pūjaya hi pūjanārhāḥ pūjitāḥ te sukham dāsyanti
25. Therefore, O descendant of Vṛṣṇi (vārṣṇeya), you too should always honor the twice-born (dvija-s). Indeed, those who are worthy of veneration, once honored, will grant you happiness, O sinless one (anagha).
अस्मिँल्लोके सदा ह्येते परत्र च सुखप्रदाः ।
त एते मान्यमाना वै प्रदास्यन्ति सुखं तव ॥२६॥
26. asmiँlloke sadā hyete paratra ca sukhapradāḥ ,
ta ete mānyamānā vai pradāsyanti sukhaṁ tava.
26. asmin loke sadā hi ete paratra ca sukhapradāḥ
te ete mānyamānāḥ vai pradāsyanti sukham tava
26. hi ete asmin loke ca paratra sadā sukhapradāḥ
te ete mānyamānāḥ vai tava sukham pradāsyanti
26. Indeed, these (venerable ones) always grant happiness in this world and also in the next. Being truly honored, they will certainly bestow happiness upon you.
ये सर्वातिथयो नित्यं गोषु च ब्राह्मणेषु च ।
नित्यं सत्ये च निरता दुर्गाण्यतितरन्ति ते ॥२७॥
27. ye sarvātithayo nityaṁ goṣu ca brāhmaṇeṣu ca ,
nityaṁ satye ca niratā durgāṇyatitaranti te.
27. ye sarvātithayaḥ nityam goṣu ca brāhmaṇeṣu ca
nityam satye ca niratāḥ durgāṇi atitaranti te
27. ye nityam sarvātithayaḥ ca goṣu ca brāhmaṇeṣu ca
nityam satye ca niratāḥ te durgāṇi atitaranti
27. Those who are always hospitable to all, and who are constantly devoted to cows, Brahmins (brāhmaṇa-s), and truth (satya), they overcome all difficulties.
नित्यं शमपरा ये च तथा ये चानसूयकाः ।
नित्यं स्वाध्यायिनो ये च दुर्गाण्यतितरन्ति ते ॥२८॥
28. nityaṁ śamaparā ye ca tathā ye cānasūyakāḥ ,
nityaṁ svādhyāyino ye ca durgāṇyatitaranti te.
28. nityam śamaparāḥ ye ca tathā ye ca anasūyakāḥ
nityam svādhyāyinaḥ ye ca durgāṇi atitaranti te
28. ye nityam śamaparāḥ ca ye anasūyakāḥ ca tathā
ye nityam svādhyāyinaḥ ca te durgāṇi atitaranti
28. Those who are constantly dedicated to inner peace (śama), and those who are free from envy, and who are always engaged in spiritual study (svādhyāya), they overcome difficulties.
सर्वान्देवान्नमस्यन्ति ये चैकं देवमाश्रिताः ।
श्रद्दधानाश्च दान्ताश्च दुर्गाण्यतितरन्ति ते ॥२९॥
29. sarvāndevānnamasyanti ye caikaṁ devamāśritāḥ ,
śraddadhānāśca dāntāśca durgāṇyatitaranti te.
29. sarvān devān namasyanti ye ca ekam devam āśritāḥ
śraddadhānāḥ ca dāntāḥ ca durgāṇi atitaranti te
29. ye sarvān devān namasyanti ca ekam devam āśritāḥ
ca śraddadhānāḥ ca dāntāḥ te durgāṇi atitaranti
29. Those who venerate all deities, and those who have taken refuge in one supreme deity, and are full of faith (śraddhā) and self-controlled, they overcome difficulties.
तथैव विप्रप्रवरान्नमस्कृत्य यतव्रतान् ।
भवन्ति ये दानरता दुर्गाण्यतितरन्ति ते ॥३०॥
30. tathaiva viprapravarānnamaskṛtya yatavratān ,
bhavanti ye dānaratā durgāṇyatitaranti te.
30. tathā eva viprapravarān namaskṛtya yatavratān
bhavanti ye dāneratāḥ durgāṇi atitaranti te
30. tathā eva ye viprapravarān yatavratān namaskṛtya
dāneratāḥ bhavanti te durgāṇi atitaranti
30. Similarly, those who, having saluted the foremost among the twice-born (dvija) who are firm in their observances, become dedicated to giving (dāna), they overcome difficulties.
अग्नीनाधाय विधिवत्प्रयता धारयन्ति ये ।
प्राप्ताः सोमाहुतिं चैव दुर्गाण्यतितरन्ति ते ॥३१॥
31. agnīnādhāya vidhivatprayatā dhārayanti ye ,
prāptāḥ somāhutiṁ caiva durgāṇyatitaranti te.
31. agnīn ādhāya vidhivat prayatāḥ dhārayanti ye
prāptāḥ somāhutim ca eva durgāṇi atitaranti te
31. ye agnīn ādhāya vidhivat prayatāḥ dhārayanti
ca eva prāptāḥ somāhutim te durgāṇi atitaranti
31. Those who, having properly established the sacred fires, diligently maintain them, and who also regularly offer the soma libation (āhuti), they overcome difficulties.
मातापित्रोर्गुरुषु च सम्यग्वर्तन्ति ये सदा ।
यथा त्वं वृष्णिशार्दूलेत्युक्त्वैवं विरराम सः ॥३२॥
32. mātāpitrorguruṣu ca samyagvartanti ye sadā ,
yathā tvaṁ vṛṣṇiśārdūletyuktvaivaṁ virarāma saḥ.
32. mātāpitroḥ guruṣu ca samyak vartante ye sadā yathā
tvam vṛṣṇiśārdūla iti uktvā evam virarāma saḥ
32. “Those who always conduct themselves properly towards their parents and teachers, just as you do, O tiger among the Vṛṣṇis!” Having spoken thus, he then paused.
तस्मात्त्वमपि कौन्तेय पितृदेवद्विजातिथीन् ।
सम्यक्पूजय येन त्वं गतिमिष्टामवाप्स्यसि ॥३३॥
33. tasmāttvamapi kaunteya pitṛdevadvijātithīn ,
samyakpūjaya yena tvaṁ gatimiṣṭāmavāpsyasi.
33. tasmāt tvam api kaunteya pitṛdevadvijātithīn
samyak pūjaya yena tvam gatim iṣṭām avāpsyasi
33. “Therefore, you too, O son of Kunti, should properly honor your parents, the deities (devas), the twice-born (dvijas), and guests. By this means, you will attain your desired destination.”
