इति प्रतिसमादिष्टो हनूमान्मारुतात्मजः ।
प्रविवेश पुरीं लङ्कां पूज्यमानो निशाचरैः ॥१॥
1. iti pratisamādiṣṭo hanūmānmārutātmajaḥ ,
praviveśa purīṃ laṅkāṃ pūjyamāno niśācaraiḥ.

1. Thus commanded, Hanumān, the son of Māruta (the wind-god), entered the city of Laṅkā, even as he was being revered by the night-wanderers (rākṣasas).
प्रविश्य तु महातेजा रावणस्य निवेशनम् ।
ददर्श शशिना हीनां सातङ्कामिव रोहिणीम् ॥२॥
2. praviśya tu mahātejā rāvaṇasya niveśanam ,
dadarśa śaśinā hīnāṃ sātaṅkāmiva rohiṇīm.

2. Upon entering Rāvaṇa's abode, the greatly radiant (Hanumān) beheld her, distressed and forsaken, like the constellation Rohiṇī separated from the moon.
निभृतः प्रणतः प्रह्वः सो ऽभिगम्याभिवाद्य च ।
रामस्य वचनं सर्वमाख्यातुमुपचक्रमे ॥३॥
3. nibhṛtaḥ praṇataḥ prahvaḥ so'bhigamyābhivādya ca ,
rāmasya vacanaṃ sarvamākhyātumupacakrame.
3. nibhṛtaḥ praṇataḥ prahvaḥ saḥ abhigamya abhivādya
ca rāmasya vacanam sarvam ākhyātum upacakrame

3. Humbly and reverently bowing down, he approached [Rama], greeted him, and then began to relate Rama's entire message.
वैदेहि कुशली रामः ससुग्रीवः सलक्ष्मणः ।
कुशलं चाह सिद्धार्थो हतशत्रुररिंदमः ॥४॥
4. vaidehi kuśalī rāmaḥ sasugrīvaḥ salakṣmaṇaḥ ,
kuśalaṃ cāha siddhārtho hataśatrurariṃdamaḥ.
4. vaidehi kuśalī rāmaḥ sa-sugrīvaḥ sa-lakṣmaṇaḥ
kuśalam ca āha siddha-arthaḥ hata-śatruḥ arim-damaḥ

siddha-arthaḥ hata-śatruḥ arim-damaḥ kuśalam āha
4. O Vaidehi, Rama is well, as are Sugriva and Lakshmana. He, whose purpose is accomplished, whose enemies are slain, and who is the subduer of foes, also inquires about your welfare.
विभीषणसहायेन रामेण हरिभिः सह ।
निहतो रावणो देवि लक्ष्मणस्य नयेन च ॥५॥
5. vibhīṣaṇasahāyena rāmeṇa haribhiḥ saha ,
nihato rāvaṇo devi lakṣmaṇasya nayena ca.

nihataḥ rāvaṇaḥ devi lakṣmaṇasya nayena ca

5. O Goddess, Ravana was slain by Rama, with the help of Vibhishana and the monkeys, and also by Lakshmana's strategy.
पृष्ट्वा च कुशलं रामो वीरस्त्वां रघुनन्दनः ।
अब्रवीत् परमप्रीतः कृतार्थेनान्तरात्मना ॥६॥
6. pṛṣṭvā ca kuśalaṃ rāmo vīrastvāṃ raghunandanaḥ ,
abravīt paramaprītaḥ kṛtārthenāntarātmanā.
6. pṛṣṭvā ca kuśalam rāmaḥ vīraḥ tvām raghu-nandanaḥ
abravīt parama-prītaḥ kṛta-arthena antara-ātmanā

6. Having inquired about your welfare, Rama, the hero, the descendant of Raghu, spoke to you, extremely pleased and with his inner self (antarātman) having achieved its purpose.
प्रियमाख्यामि ते देवि त्वां तु भूयः सभाजये ।
दिष्ट्या जीवसि धर्मज्ञे जयेन मम संयुगे ॥७॥
7. priyamākhyāmi te devi tvāṃ tu bhūyaḥ sabhājaye ,
diṣṭyā jīvasi dharmajñe jayena mama saṃyuge.

diṣṭyā jīvasi dharmajñe jayena mama saṃyuge

7. O goddess, I tell you good news, and I honor you again. Fortunately, O knower of natural law (dharma), you are alive because of my victory in battle.
लब्धो नो विजयः सीते स्वस्था भव गतव्यथा ।
रावणः स हतः शत्रुर्लङ्का चेयं वशे स्थिता ॥८॥
8. labdho no vijayaḥ sīte svasthā bhava gatavyathā ,
rāvaṇaḥ sa hataḥ śatrurlaṅkā ceyaṃ vaśe sthitā.
8. labdhaḥ naḥ vijayaḥ sīte svasthā bhava gatavyathā
rāvaṇaḥ saḥ hataḥ śatruḥ laṅkā ca iyam vaśe sthitā
8. sīte naḥ vijayaḥ labdhaḥ svasthā gatavyathā bhava
saḥ śatruḥ rāvaṇaḥ hataḥ ca iyam laṅkā vaśe sthitā
8. O Sītā, we have achieved victory. Be well, your distress is gone. That enemy Rāvaṇa has been killed, and this Laṅkā is now under our control.
मया ह्यलब्धनिद्रेण धृतेन तव निर्जये ।
प्रतिज्ञैषा विनिस्तीर्णा बद्ध्वा सेतुं महोदधौ ॥९॥
9. mayā hyalabdhanidreṇa dhṛtena tava nirjaye ,
pratijñaiṣā vinistīrṇā baddhvā setuṃ mahodadhau.
9. mayā hi alabdhanidreṇa dhṛtena tava nirjaye
pratijñā eṣā vinistīrṇā baddhvā setum mahodadhau
9. hi mayā alabdhanidreṇa dhṛtena tava nirjaye eṣā
pratijñā mahodadhau setum baddhvā vinistīrṇā
9. Indeed, I, sleepless and steadfast until your victory, have fulfilled this vow by building a bridge over the great ocean.
संभ्रमश्च न कर्तव्यो वर्तन्त्या रावणालये ।
विभीषणविधेयं हि लङ्कैश्वर्यमिदं कृतम् ॥१०॥
10. saṃbhramaśca na kartavyo vartantyā rāvaṇālaye ,
vibhīṣaṇavidheyaṃ hi laṅkaiśvaryamidaṃ kṛtam.
10. saṃbhramaḥ ca na kartavyaḥ vartantyā rāvaṇālaye
vibhīṣaṇavidheyam hi laṅkaiśvaryam idam kṛtam
10. vartantyā rāvaṇālaye ca saṃbhramaḥ na kartavyaḥ
hi idam laṅkaiśvaryam vibhīṣaṇavidheyam kṛtam
10. And you should not feel any alarm or agitation while you are residing in Rāvaṇa's abode. Indeed, this sovereignty of Laṅkā has now been placed under Vibhīṣaṇa's authority.
तदाश्वसिहि विश्वस्ता स्वगृहे परिवर्तसे ।
अयं चाभ्येति संहृष्टस्त्वद्दर्शनसमुत्सुकः ॥११॥
11. tadāśvasihi viśvastā svagṛhe parivartase ,
ayaṃ cābhyeti saṃhṛṣṭastvaddarśanasamutsukaḥ.
11. tadāśvasihi viśvastā svagṛhe parivartase ayam
ca abhyeti saṃhṛṣṭaḥ tvaddarśanasamutsukaḥ
11. Then take courage and be confident; you are now dwelling in your own home. And he (Rāma) is approaching, greatly delighted and very eager to see you.
एवमुक्ता समुत्पत्य सीता शशिनिभानना ।
प्रहर्षेणावरुद्धा सा व्याजहार न किं चन ॥१२॥
12. evamuktā samutpatya sītā śaśinibhānanā ,
praharṣeṇāvaruddhā sā vyājahāra na kiṃ cana.
12. evam uktā samutpatya sītā śaśinibhānanā
praharṣeṇa avaruddhā sā vyājahāra na kim cana
12. Thus addressed, Sītā, whose face resembled the moon, rose up. Overwhelmed by excessive joy, she could not utter anything.
अब्रवीच्च हरिश्रेष्ठः सीतामप्रतिजल्पतीम् ।
किं त्वं चिन्तयसे देवि किं च मां नाभिभाषसे ॥१३॥
13. abravīcca hariśreṣṭhaḥ sītāmapratijalpatīm ,
kiṃ tvaṃ cintayase devi kiṃ ca māṃ nābhibhāṣase.
13. abravīt ca hariśreṣṭhaḥ sītām apratijalpatīm kim
tvam cintayase devi kim ca mām na abhibhāṣase
13. And the best of monkeys spoke to Sītā, who was not replying: 'O goddess, what are you thinking? And why do you not speak to me?'
एवमुक्ता हनुमता सीता धर्मे व्यवस्थिता ।
अब्रवीत् परमप्रीता हर्षगद्गदया गिरा ॥१४॥
14. evamuktā hanumatā sītā dharme vyavasthitā ,
abravīt paramaprītā harṣagadgadayā girā.
14. evam uktā hanumatā sītā dharme vyavasthitā
abravīt paramaprītā harṣagadgadayā girā
14. Thus addressed by Hanumān, Sītā, abiding in her intrinsic nature (dharma), spoke, greatly delighted, with a voice choked with joy.
प्रियमेतदुपश्रुत्य भर्तुर्विजयसंश्रितम् ।
प्रहर्षवशमापन्ना निर्वाक्यास्मि क्षणान्तरम् ॥१५॥
15. priyametadupaśrutya bharturvijayasaṃśritam ,
praharṣavaśamāpannā nirvākyāsmi kṣaṇāntaram.
15. priyam etat upaśrutya bhartuḥ vijaya-saṃśritam
praharṣa-vaśam āpannā nirvākyā asmi kṣaṇāntaram
15. bhartuḥ vijaya-saṃśritam etat priyam upaśrutya
praharṣa-vaśam āpannā asmi kṣaṇāntaram nirvākyā
15. Having heard this pleasing news regarding my husband's victory, I am overcome by great joy and rendered speechless for a moment.
न हि पश्यामि सदृशं चिन्तयन्ती प्लवंगम ।
मत्प्रियाख्यानकस्येह तव प्रत्यभिनन्दनम् ॥१६॥
16. na hi paśyāmi sadṛśaṃ cintayantī plavaṃgama ,
matpriyākhyānakasyeha tava pratyabhinandanam.
16. na hi paśyāmi sadṛśam cintayantī plavaṅgama
mat-priya-ākhyānakasya iha tava pratyabhinandanam
16. hi plavaṅgama cintayantī mat-priya-ākhyānakasya
iha tava sadṛśam pratyabhinandanam na paśyāmi
16. Indeed, O monkey (plavaṅgama), though I ponder, I do not see any suitable reward for you here, who brought me this dear news.
न च पश्यामि तत् सौम्य पृथिव्यामपि वानर ।
सदृशं मत्प्रियाख्याने तव दातुं भवेत् समम् ॥१७॥
17. na ca paśyāmi tat saumya pṛthivyāmapi vānara ,
sadṛśaṃ matpriyākhyāne tava dātuṃ bhavet samam.
17. na ca paśyāmi tat saumya pṛthivyām api vānara
sadṛśam mat-priya-ākhyāne tava dātum bhavet samam
17. ca saumya vānara pṛthivyām api tat samam sadṛśam
tava mat-priya-ākhyāne dātum bhavet na paśyāmi
17. And, O gentle monkey (vānara), I do not find anything on earth that would be an equal (reward) to give you for telling me this dear news.
हिरण्यं वा सुवर्णं वा रत्नानि विविधानि च ।
राज्यं वा त्रिषु लोकेषु नैतदर्हति भाषितुम् ॥१८॥
18. hiraṇyaṃ vā suvarṇaṃ vā ratnāni vividhāni ca ,
rājyaṃ vā triṣu lokeṣu naitadarhati bhāṣitum.
18. hiraṇyam vā suvarṇam vā ratnāni vividhāni ca
rājyam vā triṣu lokeṣu na etat arhati bhāṣitum
18. hiraṇyam vā suvarṇam vā vividhāni ratnāni ca
vā rājyam triṣu lokeṣu etat bhāṣitum na arhati
18. Neither gold nor suvarṇa (a type of pure gold), nor various jewels, nor even sovereignty (rājya) over the three worlds, is worthy to be mentioned (as a reward).
एवमुक्तस्तु वैदेह्या प्रत्युवाच प्लवंगमः ।
प्रगृहीताञ्जलिर्वाक्यं सीतायाः प्रमुखे स्थितः ॥१९॥
19. evamuktastu vaidehyā pratyuvāca plavaṃgamaḥ ,
pragṛhītāñjalirvākyaṃ sītāyāḥ pramukhe sthitaḥ.
19. evam uktaḥ tu vaidehyā prati uvāca plavaṅgamaḥ
pragṛhītāñjaliḥ vākyam sītāyāḥ pramukhe sthitaḥ
19. plavaṅgamaḥ sītāyāḥ pramukhe sthitaḥ pragṛhītāñjaliḥ
vaidehyā evam uktaḥ tu vākyam prati uvāca
19. Thus addressed by Vaidehī, the monkey, standing before Sītā, replied with hands joined in salutation.
भर्तुः प्रियहिते युक्ते भर्तुर्विजयकाङ्क्षिणि ।
स्निग्धमेवंविधं वाक्यं त्वमेवार्हसि भाषितुम् ॥२०॥
20. bhartuḥ priyahite yukte bharturvijayakāṅkṣiṇi ,
snigdhamevaṃvidhaṃ vākyaṃ tvamevārhasi bhāṣitum.
20. bhartuḥ priyahite yukte bhartuḥ vijayakāṅkṣiṇi
snigdham evamvidham vākyam tvam eva arhasi bhāṣitum
20. bhartuḥ priyahite yukte bhartuḥ vijayakāṅkṣiṇi tvam
eva snigdham evamvidham vākyam bhāṣitum arhasi
20. You, who are dedicated to the well-being and happiness of your husband, and who desire his victory, are indeed the only one fit to speak such affectionate words.
तवैतद्वचनं सौम्ये सारवत् स्निग्धमेव च ।
रत्नौघाद्विविधाच्चापि देवराज्याद्विशिष्यते ॥२१॥
21. tavaitadvacanaṃ saumye sāravat snigdhameva ca ,
ratnaughādvividhāccāpi devarājyādviśiṣyate.
21. tava etat vacanam saumye sāravat snigdham eva ca
ratna oghāt vividhāt ca api devarājyāt viśiṣyate
21. saumye tava etat vacanam sāravat snigdham eva ca
vividhāt ratna oghāt ca api devarājyāt viśiṣyate
21. O gentle one, these words of yours, full of substance and affection, are superior even to vast collections of various jewels and to the kingdom of the gods.
अर्थतश्च मया प्राप्ता देवराज्यादयो गुणाः ।
हतशत्रुं विजयिनं रामं पश्यामि यत् स्थितम् ॥२२॥
22. arthataśca mayā prāptā devarājyādayo guṇāḥ ,
hataśatruṃ vijayinaṃ rāmaṃ paśyāmi yat sthitam.
22. arthataḥ ca mayā prāptāḥ devarājyādayaḥ guṇāḥ
hataśatrum vijayinam rāmam paśyāmi yat sthitam
22. mayā arthataḥ ca devarājyādayaḥ guṇāḥ prāptāḥ
yat hataśatrum vijayinam sthitam rāmam paśyāmi
22. And by virtue of this, I consider merits like the kingdom of the gods to be attained by me, since I envision Rāma with his enemies vanquished, victorious, and firmly established.
इमास्तु खलु राक्षस्यो यदि त्वमनुमन्यसे ।
हन्तुमिच्छाम्यहं सर्वा याभिस्त्वं तर्जिता पुरा ॥२३॥
23. imāstu khalu rākṣasyo yadi tvamanumanyase ,
hantumicchāmyahaṃ sarvā yābhistvaṃ tarjitā purā.
23. imāḥ tu khalu rākṣasyaḥ yadi tvam anumanyase hantum
icchāmi aham sarvāḥ yābhiḥ tvam tarjitā purā
23. If you permit, I wish to kill all these demonesses by whom you were previously threatened.
क्लिश्यन्तीं पतिदेवां त्वामशोकवनिकां गताम् ।
घोररूपसमाचाराः क्रूराः क्रूरतरेक्षणाः ॥२४॥
24. kliśyantīṃ patidevāṃ tvāmaśokavanikāṃ gatām ,
ghorarūpasamācārāḥ krūrāḥ krūratarekṣaṇāḥ.
24. kliśyantīm patidevām tvām aśokavanikām gatām
ghorarūpasamācārāḥ krūrāḥ krūtatarekṣaṇāḥ
24. You, suffering and devoted to your husband, who had gone to the Aśoka grove; [the demonesses were] of dreadful form and conduct, cruel, and with extremely fierce gazes.
राक्षस्यो दारुणकथा वरमेतं प्रयच्छ मे ।
इच्छामि विविधैर्घातैर्हन्तुमेताः सुदारुणाः ॥२५॥
25. rākṣasyo dāruṇakathā varametaṃ prayaccha me ,
icchāmi vividhairghātairhantumetāḥ sudāruṇāḥ.
25. rākṣasyaḥ dāruṇakathā varam etam prayaccha me
icchāmi vividhaiḥ ghātaiḥ hantum etāḥ sudāruṇāḥ
25. Grant me this boon concerning these demonesses, whose stories are dreadful. I wish to kill these very terrible ones with various kinds of blows.
मुष्टिभिः पाणिभिश्चैव चरणैश्चैव शोभने ।
घोरैर्जानुप्रहारैश्च दशनानां च पातनैः ॥२६॥
26. muṣṭibhiḥ pāṇibhiścaiva caraṇaiścaiva śobhane ,
ghorairjānuprahāraiśca daśanānāṃ ca pātanaiḥ.
26. muṣṭibhiḥ pāṇibhiḥ ca eva caraṇaiḥ ca eva śobhane
ghoraiḥ jānuprāhāraiḥ ca daśanānām ca pātanaiḥ
26. O beautiful one, [I wish to kill them] with fists, with hands, and with feet, and with dreadful knee-strikes, and with the knocking out of teeth.
भक्षणैः कर्णनासानां केशानां लुञ्चनैस्तथा ।
भृशं शुष्कमुखीभिश्च दारुणैर्लङ्घनैर्हतैः ॥२७॥
27. bhakṣaṇaiḥ karṇanāsānāṃ keśānāṃ luñcanaistathā ,
bhṛśaṃ śuṣkamukhībhiśca dāruṇairlaṅghanairhataiḥ.
27. bhakṣaṇaiḥ karṇanāsānām keśānām luñcanaiḥ tathā
bhṛśam śuṣkamukhībhiḥ ca dāruṇaiḥ laṅghanaiḥ hataiḥ
27. By mutilating their ears and noses, by tearing out their hair, and similarly, by making them exceedingly dry-faced (from hunger) and by cruel starvation, thus striking them down.
एवंप्रकारैर्बहुभिर्विप्रकारैर्यशस्विनि ।
हन्तुमिच्छाम्यहं देवि तवेमाः कृतकिल्बिषाः ॥२८॥
28. evaṃprakārairbahubhirviprakārairyaśasvini ,
hantumicchāmyahaṃ devi tavemāḥ kṛtakilbiṣāḥ.
28. evam prakāraiḥ bahubhiḥ viprakāraiḥ yaśasvini
hantum icchāmi aham devi tava imāḥ kṛtakilbiṣāḥ
28. O glorious one, O goddess, I wish to kill these (demonesses) who have committed offenses against you in these many and various ways.
एवमुक्ता महुमता वैदेही जनकात्मजा ।
उवाच धर्मसहितं हनूमन्तं यशस्विनी ॥२९॥
29. evamuktā mahumatā vaidehī janakātmajā ,
uvāca dharmasahitaṃ hanūmantaṃ yaśasvinī.
29. evam uktā mahumatā vaidehī janakātmajā
uvāca dharmasahitam hanūmantam yaśasvinī
29. Thus addressed by the intelligent (mahat) one, Sītā, the glorious daughter of Janaka from Videha, spoke to Hanumān, who was endowed with natural law (dharma).
राजसंश्रयवश्यानां कुर्वतीनां पराज्ञया ।
विधेयानां च दासीनां कः कुप्येद्वानरोत्तम ॥३०॥
30. rājasaṃśrayavaśyānāṃ kurvatīnāṃ parājñayā ,
vidheyānāṃ ca dāsīnāṃ kaḥ kupyedvānarottama.
30. rājasaṁśrayavaśyānām kurvatīnām parājñayā
vidheyānām ca dāsīnām kaḥ kupyet vānarottama
30. O best of monkeys, who would be angry with maidservants who are subservient due to royal protection, who act upon another's command, and who are obedient?
भाग्यवैषम्ययोगेन पुरा दुश्चरितेन च ।
मयैतत् प्राप्यते सर्वं स्वकृतं ह्युपभुज्यते ॥३१॥
31. bhāgyavaiṣamyayogena purā duścaritena ca ,
mayaitat prāpyate sarvaṃ svakṛtaṃ hyupabhujyate.
31. bhāgyavaiṣamyayogena purā duścaritena ca mayā
etat prāpyate sarvam svakṛtam hi upabhujyate
31. mayā etat sarvam bhāgyavaiṣamyayogena purā
duścaritena ca prāpyate hi svakṛtam upabhujyate
31. Through the combination of adverse fortune and my past misdeeds, all of this is being obtained by me. Indeed, one experiences the results of one's own actions (karma).
प्राप्तव्यं तु दशायोगान्मयैतदिति निश्चितम् ।
दासीनां रावणस्याहं मर्षयामीह दुर्बला ॥३२॥
32. prāptavyaṃ tu daśāyogānmayaitaditi niścitam ,
dāsīnāṃ rāvaṇasyāhaṃ marṣayāmīha durbalā.
32. prāptavyam tu daśāyogāt mayā etat iti niścitam
dāsīnām rāvaṇasya aham marṣayāmi iha durbalā
32. aham durbalā iha dāsīnām rāvaṇasya prāptavyam
etat daśāyogāt mayā iti niścitam tu marṣayāmi
32. Indeed, it is certain that this suffering is to be experienced by me due to the conjunction of circumstances. Being weak, I endure these female servants of Rāvaṇa here.
आज्ञप्ता रावणेनैता राक्षस्यो मामतर्जयन् ।
हते तस्मिन्न कुर्युर्हि तर्जनं वानरोत्तम ॥३३॥
33. ājñaptā rāvaṇenaitā rākṣasyo māmatarjayan ,
hate tasminna kuryurhi tarjanaṃ vānarottama.
33. ājñaptāḥ rāvaṇena etāḥ rākṣasyaḥ mām atarjayan
hate tasmin na kuryuḥ hi tarjanam vānarottama
33. vānarottama rāvaṇena ājñaptāḥ etāḥ rākṣasyaḥ
mām atarjayan hi tasmin hate tarjanam na kuryuḥ
33. These demonesses, commanded by Rāvaṇa, threatened me. Indeed, O best of monkeys, if he were killed, they would not perform such threats.
अयं व्याघ्रसमीपे तु पुराणो धर्मसंहितः ।
ऋक्षेण गीतः श्लोको मे तं निबोध प्लवंगम ॥३४॥
34. ayaṃ vyāghrasamīpe tu purāṇo dharmasaṃhitaḥ ,
ṛkṣeṇa gītaḥ śloko me taṃ nibodha plavaṃgama.

34. Indeed, O monkey, this ancient verse, aligned with natural law (dharma), was sung to me by a bear when I was near a tiger. Please understand that.
न परः पापमादत्ते परेषां पापकर्मणाम् ।
समयो रक्षितव्यस्तु सन्तश्चारित्रभूषणाः ॥३५॥
35. na paraḥ pāpamādatte pareṣāṃ pāpakarmaṇām ,
samayo rakṣitavyastu santaścāritrabhūṣaṇāḥ.
35. na paraḥ pāpam ādatte pareṣām pāpakarmaṇām
samayaḥ rakṣitavyaḥ tu santaḥ cāritrabhūṣaṇāḥ
35. paraḥ pāpakarmaṇām pareṣām pāpam na ādatte
samayaḥ tu rakṣitavyaḥ santaḥ cāritrabhūṣaṇāḥ
35. One does not incur the sin of others who commit sinful deeds. However, a solemn pledge (samaya) must be protected, and righteous people are those whose ornament is good character.
पापानां वा शुभानां वा वधार्हाणां प्लवंगम ।
कार्यं कारुण्यमार्येण न कश्चिन्नापराध्यति ॥३६॥
36. pāpānāṃ vā śubhānāṃ vā vadhārhāṇāṃ plavaṃgama ,
kāryaṃ kāruṇyamāryeṇa na kaścinnāparādhyati.
36. pāpānām vā śubhānām vā vadhārhāṇām plavaṅgama
kāryam kāruṇyam āryeṇa na kaścit na aparādhyati
36. plavaṅgama pāpānām vā śubhānām vā vadhārhāṇām
āryeṇa kāruṇyam kāryam na kaścit na aparādhyati
36. O monkey (plavaṅgama)! Whether towards those who are sinful or virtuous, or those deserving of death, compassion should be shown by a noble person. No one is without fault.
लोकहिंसाविहाराणां रक्षसां कामरूपिणम् ।
कुर्वतामपि पापानि नैव कार्यमशोभनम् ॥३७॥
37. lokahiṃsāvihārāṇāṃ rakṣasāṃ kāmarūpiṇam ,
kurvatāmapi pāpāni naiva kāryamaśobhanam.
37. lokahiṃsāvihārāṇām rakṣasām kāmarūpiṇām
kurvatām api pāpāni na eva kāryam aśobhanam
37. lokahiṃsāvihārāṇām kāmarūpiṇām rakṣasām

37. Even towards the Rākṣasas (rakṣas) who delight in harming people and can assume any form at will, one should certainly not commit any ignoble act, even when they perform sinful deeds.
एवमुक्तस्तु हनुमान् सीतया वाक्यकोविदः ।
प्रत्युवाच ततः सीतां रामपत्नीं यशस्विनीम् ॥३८॥
38. evamuktastu hanumān sītayā vākyakovidaḥ ,
pratyuvāca tataḥ sītāṃ rāmapatnīṃ yaśasvinīm.
38. evam uktaḥ tu hanumān sītayā vākyakovidaḥ
pratyuvāca tataḥ sītām rāmapatnīm yaśasvinīm
38. sītayā evam uktaḥ vākyakovidaḥ hanumān tu
tataḥ rāmapatnīm yaśasvinīm sītām pratyuvāca
38. Thus addressed by Sītā, Hanumān, who was skilled in speech, then replied to the illustrious Sītā, the wife of Rāma.
युक्ता रामस्य भवती धर्मपत्नी यशस्विनी ।
प्रतिसंदिश मां देवि गमिष्ये यत्र राघवः ॥३९॥
39. yuktā rāmasya bhavatī dharmapatnī yaśasvinī ,
pratisaṃdiśa māṃ devi gamiṣye yatra rāghavaḥ.
39. yuktā rāmasya bhavatī dharmapatnī yaśasvinī
pratisaṃdiśa mām devi gamiṣye yatra rāghavaḥ
39. devi bhavatī rāmasya yuktā yaśasvinī dharmapatnī
mām pratisaṃdiśa yatra rāghavaḥ gamiṣye
39. O Goddess, you are Rama's devoted and glorious lawful wife (dharmapatnī). Please instruct me where Rāghava (Rama) is, and I will go there.
एवमुक्ता हनुमता वैदेही जनकात्मजा ।
अब्रवीद्द्रष्टुमिच्छामि भर्तारं वानरोत्तम ॥४०॥
40. evamuktā hanumatā vaidehī janakātmajā ,
abravīddraṣṭumicchāmi bhartāraṃ vānarottama.

abravīt draṣṭum icchāmi bhartāram vānarottama

40. Thus addressed by Hanumān, Vaidehī, the daughter of Janaka, said, 'O best among monkeys, I wish to see my husband.'
तस्यास्तद्वचनं श्रुत्वा हनुमान्पवनात्मजः ।
हर्षयन्मैथिलीं वाक्यमुवाचेदं महाद्युतिः ॥४१॥
41. tasyāstadvacanaṃ śrutvā hanumānpavanātmajaḥ ,
harṣayanmaithilīṃ vākyamuvācedaṃ mahādyutiḥ.
41. tasyāḥ tat vacanam śrutvā hanumān pavanātmajaḥ
harṣayan maithilīm vākyam uvāca idam mahādyutiḥ
41. hanumān pavanātmajaḥ mahādyutiḥ tasyāḥ tat vacanam
śrutvā maithilīm harṣayan idam vākyam uvāca
41. Having heard her words, Hanumān, the son of Pavana (Vāyu), the greatly radiant one, spoke these words, gladdening Maithilī (Sītā).
पूर्णचन्द्राननं रामं द्रक्ष्यस्यार्ये सलक्ष्मणम् ।
स्थिरमित्रं हतामित्रं शचीव त्रिदशेश्वरम् ॥४२॥
42. pūrṇacandrānanaṃ rāmaṃ drakṣyasyārye salakṣmaṇam ,
sthiramitraṃ hatāmitraṃ śacīva tridaśeśvaram.

sthiramitram hatāmitram śacī iva tridaśeśvaram
42. ārye pūrṇacandrānanam salakṣmaṇam sthiramitram

42. O noble lady, you will see Rama, whose face is like the full moon, accompanied by Lakshmaṇa, with firm allies and slain enemies, just as Śacī sees the lord of the gods.
तामेवमुक्त्वा राजन्तीं सीतां साक्षादिव श्रियम् ।
आजगाम महावेगो हनूमान्यत्र राघवः ॥४३॥
43. tāmevamuktvā rājantīṃ sītāṃ sākṣādiva śriyam ,
ājagāma mahāvego hanūmānyatra rāghavaḥ.
43. tām evam uktvā rājantīm sītām sākṣāt iva śriyam
ājagāma mahāvegaḥ hanūmān yatra rāghavaḥ
43. hanūmān mahāvegaḥ tām sītām sākṣāt śriyam iva
rājantīm evam uktvā yatra rāghavaḥ ājagāma
43. Having thus spoken to Sita, who was resplendent like Śrī herself, Hanuman, with great speed, arrived where Rama was.
