सीताया वचनं श्रुत्वा दशग्रीवः प्रतापवान् ।
हस्ते हस्तं समाहत्य चकार सुमहद्वपुः ॥१॥
1. sītāyā vacanaṃ śrutvā daśagrīvaḥ pratāpavān ,

1. Having heard Sita's words, the powerful Dashagriva (Ravana) clapped his hands together and assumed a very colossal form.
स मैथिलीं पुनर्वाक्यं बभाषे च ततो भृशम् ।
नोन्मत्तया श्रुतौ मन्ये मम वीर्यपराक्रमौ ॥२॥
2. sa maithilīṃ punarvākyaṃ babhāṣe ca tato bhṛśam ,
nonmattayā śrutau manye mama vīryaparākramau.

2. Then he vehemently spoke again to Maithili (Sita): "I do not think that my valor and might have been heard by a madwoman like you."
उद्वहेयं भुजाभ्यां तु मेदिनीमम्बरे स्थितः ।
आपिबेयं समुद्रं च मृत्युं हन्यां रणे स्थितः ॥३॥
3. udvaheyaṃ bhujābhyāṃ tu medinīmambare sthitaḥ ,
āpibeyaṃ samudraṃ ca mṛtyuṃ hanyāṃ raṇe sthitaḥ.

3. Standing in the sky, I could lift up the earth with my two arms. I could drink up the ocean, and standing in battle, I could conquer death.
अर्कं रुन्ध्यां शरैस्तीक्ष्णैर्विभिन्द्यां हि महीतलम् ।
कामरूपिणमुन्मत्ते पश्य मां कामदं पतिम् ॥४॥
4. arkaṃ rundhyāṃ śaraistīkṣṇairvibhindyāṃ hi mahītalam ,
kāmarūpiṇamunmatte paśya māṃ kāmadaṃ patim.

4. I could obstruct the sun with sharp arrows, and indeed, I could split the surface of the earth. O maddened one, behold me, your husband, who can assume any form at will and grants all desires.
एवमुक्तवतस्तस्य रावणस्य शिखिप्रभे ।
क्रुद्धस्य हरिपर्यन्ते रक्ते नेत्रे बभूवतुः ॥५॥
5. evamuktavatastasya rāvaṇasya śikhiprabhe ,
kruddhasya hariparyante rakte netre babhūvatuḥ.

5. After Rāvaṇa had spoken thus, his eyes, inflamed with anger and shining like fire, became red at the outer corners.
सद्यः सौम्यं परित्यज्य भिक्षुरूपं स रावणः ।
स्वं रूपं कालरूपाभं भेजे वैश्रवणानुजः ॥६॥
6. sadyaḥ saumyaṃ parityajya bhikṣurūpaṃ sa rāvaṇaḥ ,
svaṃ rūpaṃ kālarūpābhaṃ bheje vaiśravaṇānujaḥ.

6. Immediately abandoning his gentle mendicant form, that Rāvaṇa, the younger brother of Vaiśravaṇa, assumed his own terrifying form, resembling that of death itself.
संरक्तनयनः श्रीमांस्तप्तकाञ्चनकुण्डलः ।
दशास्यः कार्मुकी बाणी बभूव क्षणदाचरः ॥७॥
7. saṃraktanayanaḥ śrīmāṃstaptakāñcanakuṇḍalaḥ ,
daśāsyaḥ kārmukī bāṇī babhūva kṣaṇadācaraḥ.

7. His eyes bloodshot, splendid and adorned with earrings of molten gold, the ten-headed demon (Rāvaṇa), armed with a bow and arrows, now stood revealed.
स परिव्राजकच्छद्म महाकायो विहाय तत् ।
प्रतिपेदे स्वकं रूपं रावणो राक्षसाधिपः ॥८॥
8. sa parivrājakacchadma mahākāyo vihāya tat ,
pratipede svakaṃ rūpaṃ rāvaṇo rākṣasādhipaḥ.

8. He, Rāvaṇa, the huge-bodied king of demons, abandoning that disguise of an ascetic, assumed his true form.
संरक्तनयनः क्रोधाज्जीमूतनिचयप्रभः ।
रक्ताम्बरधरस्तस्थौ स्त्रीरत्नं प्रेक्ष्य मैथिलीम् ॥९॥
9. saṃraktanayanaḥ krodhājjīmūtanicayaprabhaḥ ,
raktāmbaradharastasthau strīratnaṃ prekṣya maithilīm.

9. With eyes reddened by fury, dark like a mass of clouds, and clad in red garments, he stood beholding Maithilī (Sītā), that jewel among women.
स तामसितकेशान्तां भास्करस्य प्रभामिव ।
वसनाभरणोपेतां मैथिलीं रावणो ऽब्रवीत् ॥१०॥
10. sa tāmasitakeśāntāṃ bhāskarasya prabhāmiva ,
vasanābharaṇopetāṃ maithilīṃ rāvaṇo'bravīt.
10. sa tām asitakeśāntām bhāskarasya prabhām iva
vasanābharaṇopetām maithilīm rāvaṇaḥ abravīt
10. sa rāvaṇaḥ tām maithilīm asitakeśāntām

10. Rāvaṇa spoke to her, Maithilī (Sītā), who possessed dark, flowing hair, shone like the sun's splendor, and was adorned with garments and ornaments.
त्रिषु लोकेषु विख्यातं यदि भर्तारमिच्छसि ।
मामाश्रय वरारोहे तवाहं सदृशः पतिः ॥११॥
11. triṣu lokeṣu vikhyātaṃ yadi bhartāramicchasi ,
māmāśraya varārohe tavāhaṃ sadṛśaḥ patiḥ.
11. triṣu lokeṣu vikhyātam yadi bhartāram icchasi
mām āśraya varārohe tava aham sadṛśaḥ patiḥ
11. varārohe yadi triṣu lokeṣu vikhyātam bhartāram
icchasi mām āśraya aham tava sadṛśaḥ patiḥ
11. If you desire a husband renowned throughout the three worlds, O lady of excellent hips, then take refuge in me. I am a suitable husband for you.
मां भजस्व चिराय त्वमहं श्लाघ्यस्तव प्रियः ।
नैव चाहं क्व चिद्भद्रे करिष्ये तव विप्रियम् ।
त्यज्यतां मानुषो भावो मयि भावः प्रणीयताम् ॥१२॥
12. māṃ bhajasva cirāya tvamahaṃ ślāghyastava priyaḥ ,
naiva cāhaṃ kva cidbhadre kariṣye tava vipriyam ,
tyajyatāṃ mānuṣo bhāvo mayi bhāvaḥ praṇīyatām.
12. mām bhajasva cirāya tvam aham ślāghyaḥ
tava priyaḥ na eva ca aham kvacit
bhadre kariṣye tava vipriyam tyajyatām
mānuṣaḥ bhāvaḥ mayi bhāvaḥ praṇīyatām

12. Serve me for a long time; I am your praiseworthy beloved. And I, O good lady, will never cause you any harm. Let your human attachment be abandoned, and let your affection be directed towards me.
राज्याच्च्युतमसिद्धार्थं रामं परिमितायुषम् ।
कैर्गुणैरनुरक्तासि मूढे पण्डितमानिनि ॥१३॥
13. rājyāccyutamasiddhārthaṃ rāmaṃ parimitāyuṣam ,
kairguṇairanuraktāsi mūḍhe paṇḍitamānini.
13. rājyāt cyutam asiddhārtham rāmam parimitāyuṣam
kaiḥ guṇaiḥ anuraktā asi mūḍhe paṇḍitamānini
13. mūḍhe paṇḍitamānini rājyāt cyutam asiddhārtham
parimitāyuṣam rāmam kaiḥ guṇaiḥ anuraktā asi
13. O foolish one, you who consider yourself wise, by what qualities are you devoted to Rama, who has been deprived of his kingdom, whose objectives are unfulfilled, and whose life is short?
यः स्त्रिया वचनाद् राज्यं विहाय ससुहृज्जनम् ।
अस्मिन् व्यालानुचरिते वने वसति दुर्मतिः ॥१४॥
14. yaḥ striyā vacanād rājyaṃ vihāya sasuhṛjjanam ,
asmin vyālānucarite vane vasati durmatiḥ.
14. yaḥ striyā vacanāt rājyam vihāya sasuhṛjjanam
asmin vyālānucarite vane vasati durmatiḥ
14. yaḥ durmatiḥ striyā vacanāt sasuhṛjjanam

14. That ill-minded man who, at the command of a woman, abandoned his kingdom along with his friends and people, and now dwells in this forest roamed by wild animals.
इत्युक्त्वा मैथिलीं वाक्यं प्रियार्हां प्रियवादिनीम् ।
जग्राह रावणः सीतां बुधः खे रोहिणीमिव ॥१५॥
15. ityuktvā maithilīṃ vākyaṃ priyārhāṃ priyavādinīm ,
jagrāha rāvaṇaḥ sītāṃ budhaḥ khe rohiṇīmiva.
15. iti uktvā maithilīm vākyam priyārhām priyavādinīm
jagrāha rāvaṇaḥ sītām budhaḥ khe rohiṇīm iva
15. rāvaṇaḥ iti uktvā priyārhām priyavādinīm maithilīm
vākyam sītām jagrāha budhaḥ khe rohiṇīm iva
15. Having thus spoken to Maithilī (Sītā), who was worthy of love and spoke kindly, Rāvaṇa seized Sītā, just as the planet Mercury (Budha) seizes Rohiṇī in the sky.
वामेन सीतां पद्माक्षीं मूर्धजेषु करेण सः ।
ऊर्वोस्तु दक्षिणेनैव परिजग्राह पाणिना ॥१६॥
16. vāmena sītāṃ padmākṣīṃ mūrdhajeṣu kareṇa saḥ ,
ūrvostu dakṣiṇenaiva parijagrāha pāṇinā.
16. vāmena sītām padmākṣīm mūrdhajeṣu kareṇa saḥ
ūrvoh tu dakṣiṇena eva parijagrāha pāṇinā
16. saḥ vāmena kareṇa mūrdhajeṣu padmākṣīm sītām

16. He seized the lotus-eyed Sītā with his left hand by her hair, and indeed with his right hand by her thighs.
तं दृष्ट्वा गिरिशृङ्गाभं तीक्ष्णदंष्ट्रं महाभुजम् ।
प्राद्रवन्मृत्युसंकाशं भयार्ता वनदेवताः ॥१७॥
17. taṃ dṛṣṭvā giriśṛṅgābhaṃ tīkṣṇadaṃṣṭraṃ mahābhujam ,
prādravanmṛtyusaṃkāśaṃ bhayārtā vanadevatāḥ.
17. tam dṛṣṭvā giriśṛṅgābham tīkṣṇadaṃṣṭram mahābhujam
prādravan mṛtyusaṃkāśam bhayārtā vanadevatāḥ

17. Having seen him (Rāvaṇa), who resembled a mountain peak, had sharp fangs, mighty arms, and was like unto death itself, the terrified forest deities (vanadevatāḥ) fled.
स च मायामयो दिव्यः खरयुक्तः खरस्वनः ।
प्रत्यदृश्यत हेमाङ्गो रावणस्य महारथः ॥१८॥
18. sa ca māyāmayo divyaḥ kharayuktaḥ kharasvanaḥ ,
pratyadṛśyata hemāṅgo rāvaṇasya mahārathaḥ.
18. saḥ ca māyāmayaḥ divyaḥ kharayuktaḥ kharasvanaḥ
pratyadṛśyata hemāṅgaḥ rāvaṇasya mahārathaḥ
18. rāvaṇasya saḥ ca divyaḥ māyāmayaḥ hemāṅgaḥ
kharayuktaḥ kharasvanaḥ mahārathaḥ pratyadṛśyata
18. And Rāvaṇa's great chariot, which was divine, illusory (māyāmaya), golden-bodied, yoked with mules, and had the sound of mules, then appeared.
ततस्तां परुषैर्वाक्यैरभितर्ज्य महास्वनः ।
अङ्केनादाय वैदेहीं रथमारोपयत्तदा ॥१९॥
19. tatastāṃ paruṣairvākyairabhitarjya mahāsvanaḥ ,
aṅkenādāya vaidehīṃ rathamāropayattadā.
19. tataḥ tām paruṣaiḥ vākyaiḥ abhitarjya mahāsvanaḥ
aṅkena ādāya vaidehīm ratham āropayat tadā
19. mahāsvanaḥ tataḥ paruṣaiḥ vākyaiḥ tām abhitarjya
aṅkena vaidehīm ādāya tadā ratham āropayat
19. Then, the loud-roaring Ravana, after threatening her with harsh words, seized Vaidehi in his arms and lifted her into the chariot.
सा गृहीतातिचुक्रोश रावणेन यशस्विनी ।
रामेति सीता दुःखार्ता रामं दूरगतं वने ॥२०॥
20. sā gṛhītāticukrośa rāvaṇena yaśasvinī ,
rāmeti sītā duḥkhārtā rāmaṃ dūragataṃ vane.
20. sā gṛhītā aticukrośa rāvaṇena yaśasvinī rāma
iti sītā duḥkhārtā rāmam dūragatam vane
20. rāvaṇena gṛhītā sā yaśasvinī sītā duḥkhārtā

20. Seized by Ravana, the renowned Sita, afflicted by sorrow, cried out loudly, calling "Rama!" for Rama, who was far away in the forest.
तामकामां स कामार्तः पन्नगेन्द्रवधूमिव ।
विवेष्टमानामादाय उत्पपाथाथ रावणः ॥२१॥
21. tāmakāmāṃ sa kāmārtaḥ pannagendravadhūmiva ,
viveṣṭamānāmādāya utpapāthātha rāvaṇaḥ.
21. tām akāmām saḥ kāmārtaḥ pannagendravadhūm
iva viveṣṭamānām ādāya utpapātha atha rāvaṇaḥ
21. atha kāmārtaḥ saḥ rāvaṇaḥ tām akāmām
pannagendravadhūm iva viveṣṭamānām ādāya utpapātha
21. Then Ravana, tormented by desire, seized her, who was unwilling and writhing like the wife of a serpent king, and flew up into the sky.
ततः सा राक्षसेन्द्रेण ह्रियमाणा विहायसा ।
भृशं चुक्रोश मत्तेव भ्रान्तचित्ता यथातुरा ॥२२॥
22. tataḥ sā rākṣasendreṇa hriyamāṇā vihāyasā ,
bhṛśaṃ cukrośa matteva bhrāntacittā yathāturā.
22. tataḥ sā rākṣasendreṇa hriyamāṇā vihāyasā bhṛśam
cukrośa mattā iva bhrāntacittā yathā āturā
22. tataḥ rākṣasendreṇa vihāyasā hriyamāṇā sā bhṛśam
bhrāntacittā mattā iva āturā yathā cukrośa
22. Then, being carried away through the sky by the king of rākṣasas (demons), she cried out loudly, like a bewildered and greatly distressed madwoman.
हा लक्ष्मण महाबाहो गुरुचित्तप्रसादक ।
ह्रियमाणां न जानीषे रक्षसा कामरूपिणा ॥२३॥
23. hā lakṣmaṇa mahābāho gurucittaprasādaka ,
hriyamāṇāṃ na jānīṣe rakṣasā kāmarūpiṇā.
23. hā lakṣmaṇa mahābāho gurucittaprasādaka
hriyamāṇām na jānīṣe rakṣasā kāmarūpiṇā
23. hā lakṣmaṇa mahābāho gurucittaprasādaka

23. Alas, Lakshmana, O mighty-armed one, you who gladden the hearts of your elders! Do you not perceive me, being carried away by a demon capable of assuming any form?
जीवितं सुखमर्थांश्च धर्महेतोः परित्यजन् ।
ह्रियमाणामधर्मेण मां राघव न पश्यसि ॥२४॥
24. jīvitaṃ sukhamarthāṃśca dharmahetoḥ parityajan ,
hriyamāṇāmadharmeṇa māṃ rāghava na paśyasi.
24. jīvitam sukham arthān ca dharmahetoḥ parityajan
hriyamāṇām adharmeṇa mām rāghava na paśyasi
24. rāghava dharmahetoḥ jīvitam sukham arthān ca
parityajan adharmeṇa hriyamāṇām mām na paśyasi
24. O descendant of Raghu (rāghava), you who abandoned life, happiness, and wealth for the sake of righteousness (dharma), do you not see me being carried away by unrighteousness (adharma)?
ननु नामाविनीतानां विनेतासि परंतप ।
कथमेवंविधं पापं न त्वं शाधि हि रावणम् ॥२५॥
25. nanu nāmāvinītānāṃ vinetāsi paraṃtapa ,
kathamevaṃvidhaṃ pāpaṃ na tvaṃ śādhi hi rāvaṇam.
25. nanu nāma avinītānām vinetā asi paraṃtapa katham
evamvidham pāpam na tvam śādhi hi rāvaṇam
25. paraṃtapa nanu nāma avinītānām vinetā asi tvam
katham evamvidham pāpam hi rāvaṇam na śādhi
25. Surely, O tormentor of foes, you are indeed known as the discipliner of the undisciplined! How, then, do you not punish Ravana for such an evil deed?
ननु सद्यो ऽविनीतस्य दृश्यते कर्मणः फलम् ।
कालो ऽप्यङ्गी भवत्यत्र सस्यानामिव पक्तये ॥२६॥
26. nanu sadyo'vinītasya dṛśyate karmaṇaḥ phalam ,
kālo'pyaṅgī bhavatyatra sasyānāmiva paktaye.
26. nanu sadyaḥ avinītasya dṛśyate karmaṇaḥ phalam
kālaḥ api aṅgī bhavati atra sasyānām iva paktye
26. nanu avinītasya karmaṇaḥ phalam sadyaḥ dṛśyate
atra kālaḥ api sasyānām paktye iva aṅgī bhavati
26. Surely, the result (phalam) of an improper action (karma) is seen immediately. Time (kāla) also plays a part in this, just as it does for the ripening of crops.
स कर्म कृतवानेतत् कालोपहतचेतनः ।
जीवितान्तकरं घोरं रामाद्व्यसनमाप्नुहि ॥२७॥
27. sa karma kṛtavānetat kālopahatacetanaḥ ,
jīvitāntakaraṃ ghoraṃ rāmādvyasanamāpnuhi.
27. saḥ karma kṛtavān etat kālopahatacetanaḥ
jīvitāntakaram ghoram rāmāt vyasanam āpnuhi
27. saḥ kālopahatacetanaḥ etat karma kṛtavān
rāmāt ghoram jīvitāntakaram vyasanam āpnuhi
27. That one, whose consciousness is deluded by fate (kāla), performed this deed. May you (Ravana) obtain a dreadful, life-ending misfortune from Rama.
हन्तेदानीं सकामा तु कैकेयी बान्धवैः सह ।
ह्रियेयं धर्मकामस्य धर्मपत्नी यशस्विनः ॥२८॥
28. hantedānīṃ sakāmā tu kaikeyī bāndhavaiḥ saha ,
hriyeyaṃ dharmakāmasya dharmapatnī yaśasvinaḥ.
28. hanta idānīm sakāmā tu kaikeyī bāndhavaiḥ saha
hriyeyam dharmakāmasya dharmapatnī yaśasvinaḥ
28. hanta idānīm kaikeyī bāndhavaiḥ saha sakāmā tu
dharmakāmasya yaśasvinaḥ dharmapatnī hriyeyam
28. Alas! Now, Kaikeyī, along with her kinsmen, will certainly have her wishes fulfilled. And I, the lawful wife (dharmapatnī) of the glorious one who desires righteousness (dharma), am being stolen away.
आमन्त्रये जनस्थानं कर्णिकारांश्च पुष्पितान् ।
क्षिप्रं रामाय शंसध्वं सीतां हरति रावणः ॥२९॥
29. āmantraye janasthānaṃ karṇikārāṃśca puṣpitān ,
kṣipraṃ rāmāya śaṃsadhvaṃ sītāṃ harati rāvaṇaḥ.
29. āmantraye janasthānam karṇikārān ca puṣpitān
kṣipram rāmāya śaṃsadhvam sītām harati rāvaṇaḥ
29. aham janasthānam ca puṣpitān karṇikārān āmantraye kṣipram rāmāya śaṃsadhvam,
rāvaṇaḥ sītām harati
29. I call upon Janasthana and the blooming Karṇikāra trees! Quickly inform Rama that Ravana is abducting Sita.
माल्यवन्तं शिखरिणं वन्दे प्रस्रवणं गिरिम् ।
क्षिप्रं रामाय शंसध्वं सीतां हरति रावणः ॥३०॥
30. mālyavantaṃ śikhariṇaṃ vande prasravaṇaṃ girim ,
kṣipraṃ rāmāya śaṃsadhvaṃ sītāṃ harati rāvaṇaḥ.

30. I bow to the peaked Mount Mālyavat and Mount Prasravaṇa. Quickly inform Rama that Ravana is abducting Sita!
हंससारससंघुष्टां वन्दे गोदावरीं नदीम् ।
क्षिप्रं रामाय शंसध्वं सीतां हरति रावणः ॥३१॥
31. haṃsasārasasaṃghuṣṭāṃ vande godāvarīṃ nadīm ,
kṣipraṃ rāmāya śaṃsadhvaṃ sītāṃ harati rāvaṇaḥ.
31. haṃsasārasasaṃghuṣṭām vande godāvarīm nadīm |
kṣipram rāmāya śaṃsadhvam sītām harati rāvaṇaḥ
31. haṃsasārasasaṃghuṣṭām godāvarīm nadīm vande
kṣipram rāmāya sītām rāvaṇaḥ harati iti śaṃsadhvam
31. I salute the Godavari river, which resounds with swans and sarus cranes. Quickly tell Rama: "Ravana is carrying away Sita."
दैवतानि च यान्त्यस्मिन् वने विविधपादपे ।
नमस्करोम्यहं तेभ्यो भर्तुः शंसत मां हृताम् ॥३२॥
32. daivatāni ca yāntyasmin vane vividhapādape ,
namaskaromyahaṃ tebhyo bhartuḥ śaṃsata māṃ hṛtām.
32. daivatāni ca yānti asmin vane vividhapādape |
namaskaromi aham tebhyaḥ bhartuḥ śaṃsata mām hṛtām
32. daivatāni ca vividhapādape asmin vane yānti aham
tebhyaḥ namaskaromi bhartuḥ mām hṛtām śaṃsata
32. And deities move about in this forest with its diverse trees. I bow to them; please tell my husband that I have been seized.
यानि कानि चिदप्यत्र सत्त्वानि निवसन्त्युत ।
सर्वाणि शरणं यामि मृगपक्षिगणानपि ॥३३॥
33. yāni kāni cidapyatra sattvāni nivasantyuta ,
sarvāṇi śaraṇaṃ yāmi mṛgapakṣigaṇānapi.
33. yāni kāni cit api atra sattvāni nivasanti
uta | sarvāṇi śaraṇam yāmi mṛgapakṣigaṇān api
33. yāni kāni cit api atra uta sattvāni nivasanti,
sarvāṇi mṛgapakṣigaṇān api śaraṇam yāmi
33. Whatever beings reside here, I seek refuge with all of them, even the groups of deer and birds.
ह्रियमाणां प्रियां भर्तुः प्राणेभ्यो ऽपि गरीयसीम् ।
विवशापहृता सीता रावणेनेति शंसत ॥३४॥
34. hriyamāṇāṃ priyāṃ bhartuḥ prāṇebhyo'pi garīyasīm ,
vivaśāpahṛtā sītā rāvaṇeneti śaṃsata.
34. hriyamāṇām priyām bhartuḥ prāṇebhyaḥ api garīyasīm
| vivaśa apahṛtā sītā rāvaṇena iti śaṃsata
34. bhartuḥ prāṇebhyaḥ api garīyasīm hriyamāṇām
priyām sītā rāvaṇena vivaśa apahṛtā iti śaṃsata
34. Tell him that Sita, his beloved who is dearer to him even than his life (prāṇa), has been helplessly carried away by Ravana.
विदित्वा मां महाबाहुरमुत्रापि महाबलः ।
आनेष्यति पराक्रम्य वैवस्वतहृतामपि ॥३५॥
35. viditvā māṃ mahābāhuramutrāpi mahābalaḥ ,
āneṣyati parākramya vaivasvatahṛtāmapi.
35. viditvā mām mahābāhuḥ amutra api mahābalaḥ
āneṣyati parākramya vaivasvata-hṛtām api
35. mahābāhuḥ mahābalaḥ mām viditvā amutra api
vaivasvata-hṛtām api parākramya āneṣyati
35. Once he knows about me, the mighty-armed and very powerful Rāma will surely bring me back, even from the realm of Yama (Vaivasvata), having overpowered him.
रामाय तु यथातत्त्वं जटायो हरणं मम ।
लक्ष्मणाय च तत् सर्वमाख्यातव्यमशेषतः ॥३६॥
36. rāmāya tu yathātattvaṃ jaṭāyo haraṇaṃ mama ,
lakṣmaṇāya ca tat sarvamākhyātavyamaśeṣataḥ.
36. rāmāya tu yathātatvam jaṭāyo haraṇam mama
lakṣmaṇāya ca tat sarvam ākhyātavyam aśeṣataḥ
36. jaṭāyo tu yathātatvam mama haraṇam tat sarvam
ca rāmāya lakṣmaṇāya aśeṣataḥ ākhyātavyam
36. O Jaṭāyu, my abduction, just as it truly happened, and all the details, should be completely recounted to Rāma and to Lakṣmaṇa.
