इत्युक्ताः सीतया घोरं राक्षस्यः क्रोधमूर्छिताः ।
काश्चिज्जग्मुस्तदाख्यातुं रावणस्य तरस्विनः ॥१॥
1. ityuktāḥ sītayā ghoraṃ rākṣasyaḥ krodhamūrchitāḥ ,
kāścijjagmustadākhyātuṃ rāvaṇasya tarasvinaḥ.

1. When Sītā spoke to them so harshly, some of the rākṣasīs, overwhelmed with anger, then went to report this to the mighty Rāvaṇa.
ततः सीतामुपागम्य राक्षस्यो घोरदर्शनाः ।
पुनः परुषमेकार्थमनर्थार्थमथाब्रुवन् ॥२॥
2. tataḥ sītāmupāgamya rākṣasyo ghoradarśanāḥ ,
punaḥ paruṣamekārthamanarthārthamathābruvan.
2. tataḥ sītām upāgamya rākṣasyaḥ ghoradarśanāḥ
punaḥ paruṣam ekārtham anarthārtham atha abruvan

2. Then, the terrifying-looking rākṣasīs approached Sītā and again spoke to her with harsh words, united in their purpose to cause harm.
हन्तेदानीं तवानार्ये सीते पापविनिश्चये ।
राक्षस्यो भक्षयिष्यन्ति मांसमेतद् यथासुखम् ॥३॥
3. hantedānīṃ tavānārye sīte pāpaviniścaye ,
rākṣasyo bhakṣayiṣyanti māṃsametad yathāsukham.
3. hanta idānīm tava anārye sīte pāpaviniscaye
rākṣasyaḥ bhakṣayisyanti māṃsam etat yathāsukham
3. hanta idānīm anārye pāpaviniscaye sīte rākṣasyaḥ

3. Alas, O ignoble Sītā, you who are resolved on evil! Now these rākṣasīs will devour your flesh as they please.
सीतां ताभिरनार्याभिर्दृष्ट्वा संतर्जितां तदा ।
राक्षसी त्रिजटावृद्धा शयाना वाक्यमब्रवीत् ॥४॥
4. sītāṃ tābhiranāryābhirdṛṣṭvā saṃtarjitāṃ tadā ,
rākṣasī trijaṭāvṛddhā śayānā vākyamabravīt.
4. sītām tābhiḥ anāryābhiḥ dṛṣṭvā santarjitām tadā
rākṣasī trijaṭā vṛddhā śayānā vākyam abravīt

4. Then, seeing Sītā being threatened by those ignoble rākṣasīs, the elderly rākṣasī Trijaṭā, who was lying down, spoke.
आत्मानं खादतानार्या न सीतां भक्षयिष्यथ ।
जनकस्य सुतामिष्टां स्नुषां दशरथस्य च ॥५॥
5. ātmānaṃ khādatānāryā na sītāṃ bhakṣayiṣyatha ,
janakasya sutāmiṣṭāṃ snuṣāṃ daśarathasya ca.
5. ātmānam khādata anāryāḥ na sītām bhakṣayiṣyatha
janakasya sutām iṣṭām snuṣām daśarathasya ca
5. Devour yourselves, you ignoble ones! You will not consume Sita, the beloved daughter of Janaka and daughter-in-law of Dasaratha.
स्वप्नो ह्यद्य मया दृष्टो दारुणो रोमहर्षणः ।
राक्षसानामभावाय भर्तुरस्या भवाय च ॥६॥
6. svapno hyadya mayā dṛṣṭo dāruṇo romaharṣaṇaḥ ,
rākṣasānāmabhāvāya bharturasyā bhavāya ca.
6. svapnaḥ hi adya mayā dṛṣṭaḥ dāruṇaḥ romaharṣaṇaḥ
rākṣasānām abhāvāya bhartuḥ asyāḥ bhāvāya ca
6. Indeed, a dreadful and hair-raising dream was seen by me today, foretelling the destruction of the Rākṣasas and the prosperity of her husband.
एवमुक्तास्त्रिजटया राक्षस्यः क्रोधमूर्छिताः ।
सर्वा एवाब्रुवन्भीतास्त्रिजटां तामिदं वचः ॥७॥
7. evamuktāstrijaṭayā rākṣasyaḥ krodhamūrchitāḥ ,
sarvā evābruvanbhītāstrijaṭāṃ tāmidaṃ vacaḥ.
7. evam uktāḥ trijaṭayā rākṣasyaḥ krodhamūrcitāḥ
sarvāḥ eva abruvan bhītāḥ trijaṭām tām idam vacaḥ
7. Thus addressed by Trijata, the Rākṣasīs, overwhelmed by anger, all of them fearfully spoke these words to her, Trijata.
कथयस्व त्वया दृष्टः
स्वप्ने ऽयं कीदृशो निशि ॥८॥
8. kathayasva tvayā dṛṣṭaḥ
svapne'yaṃ kīdṛśo niśi.

8. Tell us, what kind of dream was this that was seen by you at night?
तासां श्रुत्वा तु वचनं राक्षसीनां मुखोद्गतम् ।
उवाच वचनं काले त्रिजटास्वप्नसंश्रितम् ॥९॥
9. tāsāṃ śrutvā tu vacanaṃ rākṣasīnāṃ mukhodgatam ,
uvāca vacanaṃ kāle trijaṭāsvapnasaṃśritam.

9. Having heard the words that came from the mouths of those demonesses, (Trijatā) then spoke timely words concerning her dream.
गजदन्तमयीं दिव्यां शिबिकामन्तरिक्षगाम् ।
युक्तां वाजिसहस्रेण स्वयमास्थाय राघवः ॥१०॥
10. gajadantamayīṃ divyāṃ śibikāmantarikṣagām ,
yuktāṃ vājisahasreṇa svayamāsthāya rāghavaḥ.
10. gajadantamayīm divyām śibikām antarikṣagām
yuktām vājisahasreṇa svayam āsthāya rāghavaḥ

10. Rāma (rāghava), having personally mounted a divine palanquin made of ivory that traversed the sky and was yoked with a thousand horses...
स्वप्ने चाद्य मया दृष्टा सीता शुक्लाम्बरावृता ।
सागरेण परिक्षिप्तं श्वेतपर्वतमास्थिता ।
रामेण संगता सीता भास्करेण प्रभा यथा ॥११॥
11. svapne cādya mayā dṛṣṭā sītā śuklāmbarāvṛtā ,
sāgareṇa parikṣiptaṃ śvetaparvatamāsthitā ,
rāmeṇa saṃgatā sītā bhāskareṇa prabhā yathā.
11. svapne ca adya mayā dṛṣṭā sītā
śuklāmbarāvṛtā sāgareṇa parikṣiptam
śvetaparvatam āsthitā rāmeṇa

11. And today, in a dream (svapne), I saw Sītā, draped in white garments, situated upon a white mountain surrounded by the ocean. Sītā was reunited with Rāma, just as the dawn's light (prabhā) is united with the sun.
राघवश्च मया दृष्टश्चतुर्दन्तं महागजम् ।
आरूढः शैलसंकाशं चचार सहलक्ष्मणः ॥१२॥
12. rāghavaśca mayā dṛṣṭaścaturdantaṃ mahāgajam ,
ārūḍhaḥ śailasaṃkāśaṃ cacāra sahalakṣmaṇaḥ.
12. rāghavaḥ ca mayā dṛṣṭaḥ caturdantam mahāgajam
ārūḍhaḥ śailasaṃkāśam cacāra sahalakṣmaṇaḥ
12. ca mayā dṛṣṭaḥ rāghavaḥ śailasaṃkāśam caturdantam
mahāgajam ārūḍhaḥ sahalakṣmaṇaḥ cacāra
12. And I saw Rāma (rāghava) mounted upon a mighty four-tusked elephant, resembling a mountain, moving about with Lakṣmaṇa.
ततस्तौ नरशार्दूलौ दीप्यमानौ स्वतेजसा ।
शुक्लमाल्याम्बरधरौ जानकीं पर्युपस्थितौ ॥१३॥
13. tatastau naraśārdūlau dīpyamānau svatejasā ,
śuklamālyāmbaradharau jānakīṃ paryupasthitau.
13. tatas tau naraśārdūlau dīpyamānau svatejasā
śuklamālyāmbaradharau jānakīm paryupasthitau

13. Then those two best of men, resplendent with their own inherent brilliance, and adorned in white garlands and garments, came to Sītā.
ततस्तस्य नगस्याग्रे आकाशस्थस्य दन्तिनः ।
भर्त्रा परिगृहीतस्य जानकी स्कन्धमाश्रिता ॥१४॥
14. tatastasya nagasyāgre ākāśasthasya dantinaḥ ,
bhartrā parigṛhītasya jānakī skandhamāśritā.
14. tatas tasya nagasya agre ākāśasthasya dantinaḥ
bhartrā parigṛhītasya jānakī skandham āśritā
14. tatas jānakī bhartrā parigṛhītasya tasya

14. Then, Sītā ascended onto the back of that celestial elephant, which stood in the sky and was controlled by its master.
भर्तुरङ्कात् समुत्पत्य ततः कमललोचना ।
चन्द्रसूर्यौ मया दृष्टा पाणिभ्यां परिमार्जती ॥१५॥
15. bharturaṅkāt samutpatya tataḥ kamalalocanā ,
candrasūryau mayā dṛṣṭā pāṇibhyāṃ parimārjatī.
15. bhartuḥ aṅkāt samutpatya tatas kamalalocanā
candrasūryau mayā dṛṣṭā pāṇibhyām parimārjatī
15. tatas kamalalocanā bhartuḥ aṅkāt samutpatya

15. Then, the lotus-eyed Sītā, having risen from her husband's lap, was seen by me (Hanumān) as she wiped the sun and moon with both her hands.
ततस्ताभ्यां कुमाराभ्यामास्थितः स गजोत्तमः ।
सीतया च विशालाक्ष्या लङ्काया उपरि स्थितः ॥१६॥
16. tatastābhyāṃ kumārābhyāmāsthitaḥ sa gajottamaḥ ,
sītayā ca viśālākṣyā laṅkāyā upari sthitaḥ.
16. tatas tābhyām kumārābhyām āsthitaḥ saḥ gajottamaḥ
sītayā ca viśālākṣyā laṅkāyāḥ upari sthitaḥ
16. tatas saḥ gajottamaḥ tābhyām kumārābhyām ca

16. Then, that excellent elephant, mounted by those two princes and the wide-eyed Sītā, was situated above Laṅkā.
पाण्डुरर्षभयुक्तेन रथेनाष्टयुजा स्वयम् ।
शुक्लमाल्याम्बरधरो लक्ष्मणेन समागतः ।
लक्ष्मणेन सह भ्रात्रा सीतया सह भार्यया ॥१७॥
17. pāṇḍurarṣabhayuktena rathenāṣṭayujā svayam ,
śuklamālyāmbaradharo lakṣmaṇena samāgataḥ ,
lakṣmaṇena saha bhrātrā sītayā saha bhāryayā.

17. He himself, wearing white garlands and garments, arrived with Lakṣmaṇa, his brother, and Sītā, his wife, in an eight-yoked chariot drawn by white bulls.
विमानात् पुष्पकादद्य रावणः पतितो भुवि ।
कृष्यपाणः स्त्रिया दृष्टो मुण्डः कृष्णाम्बरः पुनः ॥१८॥
18. vimānāt puṣpakādadya rāvaṇaḥ patito bhuvi ,
kṛṣyapāṇaḥ striyā dṛṣṭo muṇḍaḥ kṛṣṇāmbaraḥ punaḥ.
18. vimānāt puṣpakāt adya rāvaṇaḥ patitaḥ bhuvi

18. Today, Rāvaṇa has fallen to the earth from the Puṣpaka aircraft. He was seen by a woman, being dragged by the hand, shaven-headed, and wearing black garments.
रथेन खरयुक्तेन रक्तमाल्यानुलेपनः ।
प्रयातो दक्षिणामाशां प्रविष्टः कर्दमं ह्रदम् ॥१९॥
19. rathena kharayuktena raktamālyānulepanaḥ ,
prayāto dakṣiṇāmāśāṃ praviṣṭaḥ kardamaṃ hradam.

19. He departed towards the southern direction in a chariot yoked with donkeys, smeared with red garlands and unguents, and entered a muddy lake.
कण्ठे बद्ध्वा दशग्रीवं प्रमदा रक्तवासिनी ।
काली कर्दमलिप्ताङ्गी दिशं याम्यां प्रकर्षति ॥२०॥
20. kaṇṭhe baddhvā daśagrīvaṃ pramadā raktavāsinī ,
kālī kardamaliptāṅgī diśaṃ yāmyāṃ prakarṣati.
20. kaṇṭhe baddhvā daśagrīvam pramadā raktavāsinī
kālī kardamaliptāṅgī diśam yāmyām prakarṣati

20. A passionate woman, wearing red garments, dark-skinned, and with limbs smeared with mud, having bound Daśagrīva by the neck, drags him towards the southern direction.
वराहेण दशग्रीवः शिंशुमारेण चेन्द्रजित् ।
उष्ट्रेण कुम्भकर्णश्च प्रयातो दक्षिणां दिशम् ॥२१॥
21. varāheṇa daśagrīvaḥ śiṃśumāreṇa cendrajit ,
uṣṭreṇa kumbhakarṇaśca prayāto dakṣiṇāṃ diśam.

uṣṭreṇa kumbhakarṇaḥ ca prayātaḥ dakṣiṇām diśam
21. daśagrīvaḥ varāheṇa,
indrajit ca śiṃśumāreṇa,
kumbhakarṇaḥ ca uṣṭreṇa dakṣiṇām diśam prayātaḥ
21. Daśagrīva (Rāvaṇa) departed towards the southern direction, borne by a boar; Indrajit by a crocodile; and Kumbhakarṇa by a camel.
समाजश्च महान् वृत्तो गीतवादित्रनिःस्वनः ।
पिबतां रक्तमाल्यानां रक्षसां रक्तवाससाम् ॥२२॥
22. samājaśca mahān vṛtto gītavāditraniḥsvanaḥ ,
pibatāṃ raktamālyānāṃ rakṣasāṃ raktavāsasām.
22. samājaḥ ca mahān vṛttaḥ gītavāditraniḥsvanaḥ
pibatām raktamālyānām rakṣasām raktavāsasām
22. mahān samājaḥ ca gītavāditraniḥsvanaḥ vṛttaḥ.

22. A great assembly (samāja) took place, filled with the sounds of singing and musical instruments, among the Rākṣasas who were drinking, wearing red garlands, and clad in red garments.
लङ्का चेयं पुरी रम्या सवाजिरथसंकुला ।
सागरे पतिता दृष्टा भग्नगोपुरतोरणा ॥२३॥
23. laṅkā ceyaṃ purī ramyā savājirathasaṃkulā ,
sāgare patitā dṛṣṭā bhagnagopuratoraṇā.
23. laṅkā ca iyam purī ramyā savājirathasaṃkulā
sāgare patitā dṛṣṭā bhagnagopuratoraṇā
23. ca iyam ramyā savājirathasaṃkulā laṅkā purī
sāgare patitā bhagnagopuratoraṇā dṛṣṭā
23. And this beautiful city of Laṅkā, which was crowded with horses and chariots, was seen fallen into the ocean, with its city-gates and archways broken.
पीत्व तैलं प्रनृत्ताश्च प्रहसन्त्यो महास्वनाः ।
लङ्कायां भस्मरूक्षायां सर्वा राक्षसयोषितः ॥२४॥
24. pītva tailaṃ pranṛttāśca prahasantyo mahāsvanāḥ ,
laṅkāyāṃ bhasmarūkṣāyāṃ sarvā rākṣasayoṣitaḥ.
24. pītvā tailam pranṛttāḥ ca prahasantyaḥ mahāsvanāḥ
laṅkāyām bhasmarūkṣāyām sarvāḥ rākṣasayoṣitaḥ
24. tailam pītvā,
bhasmarūkṣāyām laṅkāyām,
sarvāḥ rākṣasayoṣitaḥ ca pranṛttāḥ mahāsvanāḥ prahasantyaḥ
24. Having drunk oil, all the Rākṣasa women in Laṅkā, which was rough with ashes, danced and laughed loudly.
कुम्भकर्णादयश्चेमे सर्वे राक्षसपुंगवाः ।
रक्तं निवसनं गृह्य प्रविष्टा गोमयह्रदे ॥२५॥
25. kumbhakarṇādayaśceme sarve rākṣasapuṃgavāḥ ,
raktaṃ nivasanaṃ gṛhya praviṣṭā gomayahrade.
25. kumbhakarṇādayaḥ ca ime sarve rākṣasapuṅgavāḥ
raktam nivasanám gṛhya praviṣṭāḥ gomayahradé
25. Kumbhakarṇa and these other prominent rākṣasas, having taken blood-red garments, entered a pit of cow-dung.
अपगच्छत नश्यध्वं सीतामाप्नोति राघवः ।
घातयेत् परमामर्षी सर्वैः सार्धं हि राक्षसैः ॥२६॥
26. apagacchata naśyadhvaṃ sītāmāpnoti rāghavaḥ ,
ghātayet paramāmarṣī sarvaiḥ sārdhaṃ hi rākṣasaiḥ.
26. apagacchata naśyadhvam sītām āpnoti rāghavaḥ
ghātayet paramāmarṣī sarvaiḥ sārdham hi rākṣasaiḥ
26. Go away! Perish! Rāghava (Rāma) will regain Sītā. Exceedingly wrathful, he would surely destroy all the rākṣasas along with you.
प्रियां बहुमतां भार्यां वनवासमनुव्रताम् ।
भर्त्सितां तर्जितां वापि नानुमंस्यति राघवः ॥२७॥
27. priyāṃ bahumatāṃ bhāryāṃ vanavāsamanuvratām ,
bhartsitāṃ tarjitāṃ vāpi nānumaṃsyati rāghavaḥ.
27. priyām bahumatām bhāryām vanavāsam anuvratām
bhartsitām tarjitām vā api na anumaṃsyati rāghavaḥ
27. Rāghava (Rāma) will not tolerate his dear, highly regarded wife, who is loyal to his forest exile, being either rebuked or threatened.
तदलं क्रूरवाक्यैर्वः सान्त्वमेवाभिधीयताम् ।
अभियाचाम वैदेहीमेतद्धि मम रोचते ॥२८॥
28. tadalaṃ krūravākyairvaḥ sāntvamevābhidhīyatām ,
abhiyācāma vaidehīmetaddhi mama rocate.
28. tat alam krūravākyaiḥ vaḥ sāntvam eva abhidhīyatām
abhiyācāma vaidehīm etat hi mama rocate
28. Therefore, enough with your cruel words! Only conciliatory words should be spoken. Let us implore Vaidehī (Sītā); this, indeed, is what pleases me.
यस्या ह्येवं विधः स्वप्नो दुःखितायाः प्रदृश्यते ।
सा दुःखैर्बहुभिर्मुक्ता प्रियं प्राप्नोत्यनुत्तमम् ॥२९॥
29. yasyā hyevaṃ vidhaḥ svapno duḥkhitāyāḥ pradṛśyate ,
sā duḥkhairbahubhirmuktā priyaṃ prāpnotyanuttamam.
29. yasyāḥ hi evam vidhaḥ svapnaḥ duḥkhitāyāḥ pradṛśyate
sā duḥkhaiḥ bahubhiḥ muktā priyam prāpnoti anuttamam
29. hi yasyāḥ duḥkhitāyāḥ evaṃvidhaḥ svapnaḥ pradṛśyate
sā bahubhiḥ duḥkhaiḥ muktā anuttamam priyam prāpnoti
29. Indeed, she for whom such a dream appears while she is distressed, will be freed from many sorrows and will attain her unsurpassed beloved.
भर्त्सितामपि याचध्वं राक्षस्यः किं विवक्षया ।
राघवाद्धि भयं घोरं राक्षसानामुपस्थितम् ॥३०॥
30. bhartsitāmapi yācadhvaṃ rākṣasyaḥ kiṃ vivakṣayā ,
rāghavāddhi bhayaṃ ghoraṃ rākṣasānāmupasthitam.
30. bhartsitām api yācadhvam rākṣasyaḥ kim vivakṣayā
rāghavāt hi bhayam ghoram rākṣasānām upasthitam
30. rākṣasyaḥ bhartsitām api yācadhvam kim vivakṣayā
hi rāghavāt ghoram bhayam rākṣasānām upasthitam
30. O ogresses, you should implore [her], even if she has been reviled. What is the point of [further] speaking? For indeed, terrible danger from Rāghava (Rama) has arisen for the rākṣasas.
प्रणिपात प्रसन्ना हि मैथिली जनकात्मजा ।
अलमेषा परित्रातुं राक्षस्यो महतो भयात् ॥३१॥
31. praṇipāta prasannā hi maithilī janakātmajā ,
alameṣā paritrātuṃ rākṣasyo mahato bhayāt.

alam eṣā paritrātum rākṣasyaḥ mahataḥ bhayāt
31. hi maithilī janakātmajā praṇipāta prasannā
eṣā rākṣasyaḥ mahataḥ bhayāt paritrātum alam
31. Indeed, Maithili, the daughter of Janaka, when appeased by supplication, is capable, O ogresses, of protecting [you] from great danger.
अपि चास्या विशालाक्ष्या न किं चिदुपलक्षये ।
विरुद्धमपि चाङ्गेषु सुसूक्ष्ममपि लक्ष्मणम् ॥३२॥
32. api cāsyā viśālākṣyā na kiṃ cidupalakṣaye ,
viruddhamapi cāṅgeṣu susūkṣmamapi lakṣmaṇam.
32. api ca asyāḥ viśālākṣyāḥ na kim cit upalakṣaye
viruddham api ca aṅgeṣu susūkṣmam api lakṣaṇam
32. ca asyāḥ viśālākṣyāḥ aṅgeṣu viruddham api
susūkṣmam api kim cit lakṣaṇam na upalakṣaye
32. And I do not perceive anything adverse on this wide-eyed one, not even a very subtle inauspicious mark on her limbs.
छाया वैगुण्य मात्रं तु शङ्के दुःखमुपस्थितम् ।
अदुःखार्हामिमां देवीं वैहायसमुपस्थिताम् ॥३३॥
33. chāyā vaiguṇya mātraṃ tu śaṅke duḥkhamupasthitam ,
aduḥkhārhāmimāṃ devīṃ vaihāyasamupasthitām.
33. chāyā vaiguṇya mātram tu śaṅke duḥkham upasthitam
aduḥkhārhām imām devīm vaihāyasam upasthitām
33. aham tu śaṅke duḥkham upasthitam imām aduḥkhārhām

33. I suspect that sorrow has certainly befallen this goddess, who does not deserve suffering and is present here as if suspended. Her diminished radiance is merely a reflection of her plight.
अर्थसिद्धिं तु वैदेह्याः पश्याम्यहमुपस्थिताम् ।
राक्षसेन्द्रविनाशं च विजयं राघवस्य च ॥३४॥
34. arthasiddhiṃ tu vaidehyāḥ paśyāmyahamupasthitām ,
rākṣasendravināśaṃ ca vijayaṃ rāghavasya ca.
34. arthasiddhim tu vaidehyāḥ paśyāmi aham upasthitām
rākṣasendravināśam ca vijayam rāghavasya ca
34. aham tu vaidehyāḥ arthasiddhim upasthitām
rākṣasendravināśam ca rāghavasya vijayam ca paśyāmi
34. Indeed, I see the fulfillment of Vaidehī's purpose to be imminent, as well as the destruction of the lord of the Rākṣasas and the victory of Rāghava.
निमित्तभूतमेतत्तु श्रोतुमस्या महत् प्रियम् ।
दृश्यते च स्फुरच्चक्षुः पद्मपत्रमिवायतम् ॥३५॥
35. nimittabhūtametattu śrotumasyā mahat priyam ,
dṛśyate ca sphuraccakṣuḥ padmapatramivāyatam.
35. nimittabhūtam etat tu śrotum asyāḥ mahat priyam
dṛśyate ca sphurat cakṣuḥ padmapatram iva āyatam
35. etat tu nimittabhūtam asyāḥ śrotum mahat priyam
ca sphurat cakṣuḥ padmapatram iva āyatam dṛśyate
35. This is indeed an omen, very pleasing for her to hear. And her throbbing eye, wide like a lotus leaf, is seen.
ईषच्च हृषितो वास्या दक्षिणाया ह्यदक्षिणः ।
अकस्मादेव वैदेह्या बाहुरेकः प्रकम्पते ॥३६॥
36. īṣacca hṛṣito vāsyā dakṣiṇāyā hyadakṣiṇaḥ ,
akasmādeva vaidehyā bāhurekaḥ prakampate.
36. īṣat ca hṛṣitaḥ vā asyāḥ dakṣiṇāyāḥ hi adakṣiṇaḥ
akasmāt eva vaidehyāḥ bāhuḥ ekaḥ prakampate
36. ca asyāḥ dakṣiṇāyāḥ īṣat hṛṣitaḥ hi adakṣiṇaḥ
akasmāt eva vaidehyāḥ ekaḥ bāhuḥ prakampate
36. And indeed, her right (side) is slightly thrilled, which is inauspicious. Suddenly, one arm of Vaidehī (Sītā) begins to tremble.
करेणुहस्तप्रतिमः सव्यश्चोरुरनुत्तमः ।
वेपन् सूचयतीवास्या राघवं पुरतः स्थितम् ॥३७॥
37. kareṇuhastapratimaḥ savyaścoruranuttamaḥ ,
vepan sūcayatīvāsyā rāghavaṃ purataḥ sthitam.
37. kareṇuhastapratimaḥ savyaḥ ca ūruḥ anuttamaḥ
vepan sūcayati iva asyāḥ rāghavam purataḥ sthitam
37. asyāḥ savyaḥ anuttamaḥ ūruḥ kareṇuhastapratimaḥ
vepan iva purataḥ sthitam rāghavam sūcayati
37. Her excellent left thigh, which resembles an elephant's trunk, trembles as if indicating the presence of Rāghava before her.
पक्षी च शाखा निलयं प्रविष्टः पुनः पुनश्चोत्तमसान्त्ववादी ।
सुखागतां वाचमुदीरयाणः पुनः पुनश्चोदयतीव हृष्टः ॥३८॥
38. pakṣī ca śākhā nilayaṃ praviṣṭaḥ punaḥ punaścottamasāntvavādī ,
sukhāgatāṃ vācamudīrayāṇaḥ punaḥ punaścodayatīva hṛṣṭaḥ.

punaḥ punaḥ ca uttama-sāntva-vādī
sukhāgatām vācam udīrayāṇaḥ
punaḥ punaḥ ca codayati iva hṛṣṭaḥ

38. A bird, having entered its nest in the branches, repeatedly utters pleasant, comforting words, as if joyfully encouraging (Sita) again and again.
