1.
Having thus spoken to Maithili (Sita), King Ravana, the one who torments his enemies, then instructed all the ogresses and departed.
निष्क्रान्ते राक्षसेन्द्रे तु पुनरन्तःपुरं गते ।

2.
But when the lord of demons had departed, having returned to his inner palace, those terrifying ogresses rushed upon Sita.

3.
Then, the female demons, maddened by anger, approached Sītā and spoke these exceedingly harsh words to Vaidehī.
पौलस्त्यस्य वरिष्ठस्य रावणस्य महात्मनः ।

4.
O Sītā, you do not highly regard being the wife of the great and chief Rāvaṇa, the ten-necked son of Pulastya.

5.
Then, the female demon named Ekajaṭā, whose eyes were reddened by anger, spoke words, having addressed Sītā, the slender-waisted one.
प्रजापतीनां षण्णां तु चतुर्थो यः प्रजापतिः ।
मानसो ब्रह्मणः पुत्रः पुलस्त्य इति विश्रुतः ॥६॥

6.
Among the six creators (prajāpatis), the fourth one, who is the mind-born son of Brahmā, is renowned as Pulastya.

7.
Indeed, the brilliant, mind-born son of the great seer Pulastya was named Viśravā, possessing the splendor equal to a creator deity (prajāpati).

8.
O wide-eyed one, his son is Rāvaṇa, who makes his enemies cry out in terror. You should become the wife of that king of rākṣasas (rākṣasendra). O beautiful-limbed one, why do you not accept my words?

9.
Then, a demoness (rākṣasī) named Harijaṭā, whose eyes resembled those of a cat, spoke these words, opening her eyes wide in anger.
येन देवास्त्रयस्त्रिंशद्देवराजश्च निर्जितः ।

10.
You should become the wife of that king of rākṣasas (rākṣasendra), by whom the thirty-three gods and the king of gods were conquered.

11.
Why would you not attain the status of a wife to a hero, overflowing with valor, who never retreats in battles, and who is mighty and endowed with strength?

Abandoning his opulent inner palace (antaḥpura), which is rich with a thousand women and adorned with various gems, Rāvaṇa will come to you.

O base woman, why do you not wish to be the wife of that completely prosperous Rāvaṇa, the great-souled lord of the rākṣasas?

O woman with long, beautiful eyes, why do you not stay with him, before whom the sun, out of fear, does not shine fiercely, and the wind, also afraid, does not even blow?

O woman with beautiful eyebrows, indeed, out of fear of him, trees released showers of flowers, and mountains as well as clouds yielded water whenever he desired it.

O passionate woman, why do you not fix your mind on becoming the wife of that Rāvaṇa, who is the king of the rākṣasas and indeed the king of kings?

O goddess (devī), truly, it has been properly told to you, O beautiful lady (bhāminī). Accept this statement, O woman with a beautiful smile, otherwise you will not survive.
