ततः सीतामुपागम्य राक्षस्यो विकृताननाः ।
परुषं परुषा नार्य ऊचुस्ता वाक्यमप्रियम् ॥१॥

1. Thereupon, the Rākṣasīs with distorted faces, harsh women, having approached Sītā, spoke to her an unpleasant and harsh statement.
किं त्वमन्तःपुरे सीते सर्वभूतमनोहरे ।
महार्हशयनोपेते न वासमनुमन्यसे ॥२॥
2. kiṃ tvamantaḥpure sīte sarvabhūtamanohare ,
mahārhaśayanopete na vāsamanumanyase.

2. O Sītā, why do you not consent to dwelling in this inner palace, which is charming to all beings and furnished with a very valuable bed?
मानुषी मानुषस्यैव भार्यात्वं बहु मन्यसे ।
प्रत्याहर मनो रामान्न त्वं जातु भविष्यसि ॥३॥
3. mānuṣī mānuṣasyaiva bhāryātvaṃ bahu manyase ,
pratyāhara mano rāmānna tvaṃ jātu bhaviṣyasi.

pratyāhara manaḥ rāmāt na tvam jātu bhaviṣyasi

3. You, a human woman, greatly value being the wife of a mere human (mānuṣa). Withdraw your mind (manas) from Rāma; you will certainly not survive.
मानुषी मानुषं तं तु राममिच्छसि शोभने ।
राज्याद्भ्रष्टमसिद्धार्थं विक्लवं तमनिन्दिते ॥४॥
4. mānuṣī mānuṣaṃ taṃ tu rāmamicchasi śobhane ,
rājyādbhraṣṭamasiddhārthaṃ viklavaṃ tamanindite.
4. mānuṣī mānuṣam tam tu rāmam icchasi śobhane rājyāt
bhraṣṭam asiddhārtham viklavam tam anindite
4. O beautiful one, you, a human woman, desire that Rāma, who is a mere human, fallen from his kingdom, whose purpose remains unfulfilled, and who is bewildered. O faultless one.
राक्षसीनां वचः श्रुत्वा सीता पद्मनिभेक्षणा ।
नेत्राभ्यामश्रुपूर्णाभ्यामिदं वचनमब्रवीत् ॥५॥
5. rākṣasīnāṃ vacaḥ śrutvā sītā padmanibhekṣaṇā ,
netrābhyāmaśrupūrṇābhyāmidaṃ vacanamabravīt.
5. rākṣasīnām vacaḥ śrutvā sītā padmanibhekṣaṇā
netrābhyām aśrupūrṇābhyām idam vacanam abravīt
5. Having heard the words of the demonesses (rākṣasīs), Sītā, whose eyes resembled lotuses, spoke these words with her eyes full of tears.
यदिदं लोकविद्विष्टमुदाहरथ संगताः ।
नैतन्मनसि वाक्यं मे किल्बिषं प्रतितिष्ठति ॥६॥
6. yadidaṃ lokavidviṣṭamudāharatha saṃgatāḥ ,
naitanmanasi vākyaṃ me kilbiṣaṃ pratitiṣṭhati.
6. yat idam lokavidviṣṭam udāharatha saṅgatāḥ na
etat manasi vākyam me kilbiṣam pratitiṣṭhati
6. This speech, hateful to all the world, which you, gathered together, utter - this sinful statement does not settle in my mind.
न मानुषी राक्षसस्य भार्या भवितुमर्हति ।
कामं खादत मां सर्वा न करिष्यामि वो वचः ।
दीनो वा राज्यहीनो वा यो मे भर्ता स मे गुरुः ॥७॥
7. na mānuṣī rākṣasasya bhāryā bhavitumarhati ,
kāmaṃ khādata māṃ sarvā na kariṣyāmi vo vacaḥ ,
dīno vā rājyahīno vā yo me bhartā sa me guruḥ.
7. na mānuṣī rākṣasasya bhāryā bhavitum
arhati kāmam khādata mām sarvāḥ na
kariṣyāmi vaḥ vacaḥ dīnaḥ vā
rājyahīnaḥ vā yaḥ me bhartā saḥ me guruḥ
7. A human woman (mānuṣī) cannot be the wife of a demon (rākṣasa). You may all eat me as you please, but I will not heed your words. Whether he is impoverished or deprived of his kingdom, he who is my husband is my preceptor (guru).
सीताया वचनं श्रुत्वा राक्षस्यः क्रोधमूर्छिताः ।
भर्त्सयन्ति स्म परुषैर्वाक्यै रावणचोदिताः ॥८॥
8. sītāyā vacanaṃ śrutvā rākṣasyaḥ krodhamūrchitāḥ ,
bhartsayanti sma paruṣairvākyai rāvaṇacoditāḥ.
8. sītāyāḥ vacanam śrutvā rākṣasyaḥ krodhamūrchitāḥ
bhartsayanti sma paruṣaiḥ vākyaiḥ rāvaṇacoditāḥ

krodhamūrchitāḥ paruṣaiḥ vākyaiḥ sma bhartsayanti
8. After hearing Sītā's words, the female demons, overcome with rage, reproached her with harsh words, having been instigated by Rāvaṇa.
अवलीनः स निर्वाक्यो हनुमाञ् शिंशपाद्रुमे ।
सीतां संतर्जयन्तीस्ता राक्षसीरशृणोत् कपिः ॥९॥
9. avalīnaḥ sa nirvākyo hanumāñ śiṃśapādrume ,
sītāṃ saṃtarjayantīstā rākṣasīraśṛṇot kapiḥ.
9. avalīnaḥ sa nirvākyaḥ hanumān śiṃśapādruma
sītām santarjayantīḥ tāḥ rākṣasīḥ aśṛṇot kapiḥ
9. sa kapiḥ hanumān avalīnaḥ nirvākyaḥ śiṃśapādruma
(sthitaḥ) tāḥ rākṣasīḥ sītām santarjayantīḥ aśṛṇot
9. The monkey, Hanumān, hidden and silent in the śiṃśapā tree, heard those female demons threatening Sītā.
तामभिक्रम्य संरब्धा वेपमानां समन्ततः ।
भृशं संलिलिहुर्दीप्तान्प्रलम्बदशनच्छदान् ॥१०॥
10. tāmabhikramya saṃrabdhā vepamānāṃ samantataḥ ,
bhṛśaṃ saṃlilihurdīptānpralambadaśanacchadān.
10. tām abhikramya saṃrabdhāḥ vepamānām samantataḥ
bhṛśam saṃlilihuḥ dīptān pralambadaśanacchadān
10. saṃrabdhāḥ (rākṣasyaḥ) tām vepamānām samantataḥ
abhikramya bhṛśam dīptān pralambadaśanacchadān saṃlilihuḥ
10. Enraged, having approached her, who was trembling all over, they intensely licked their gleaming lips covering their long teeth.
ऊचुश्च परमक्रुद्धाः प्रगृह्याशु परश्वधान् ।
नेयमर्हति भर्तारं रावणं राक्षसाधिपम् ॥११॥
11. ūcuśca paramakruddhāḥ pragṛhyāśu paraśvadhān ,
neyamarhati bhartāraṃ rāvaṇaṃ rākṣasādhipam.
11. ūcuḥ ca paramakruddhāḥ pragṛhya āśu paraśvadhān
na iyam arhati bhartāram rāvaṇam rākṣasādhipam
11. ca paramakruddhāḥ (rākṣasyaḥ) āśu paraśvadhān pragṛhya ūcuḥ: iyam rāvaṇam rākṣasādhipam bhartāram na arhati.
11. And, extremely enraged, swiftly seizing their axes, they said: "She is not worthy of Rāvaṇa, the lord of demons, as a husband."
सा भर्त्स्यमाना भीमाभी राक्षसीभिर्वरानना ।
सा बाष्पमपमार्जन्ती शिंशपां तामुपागमत् ॥१२॥
12. sā bhartsyamānā bhīmābhī rākṣasībhirvarānanā ,
sā bāṣpamapamārjantī śiṃśapāṃ tāmupāgamat.
12. sā bhartsyamānā bhīmābhiḥ rākṣasībhiḥ varānanā
sā bāṣpam apamārjantī śiṃśapām tām upāgamat
12. sā varānanā bhīmābhiḥ rākṣasībhiḥ bhartsyamānā
bāṣpam apamārjantī sā tām śiṃśapām upāgamat
12. The beautiful Sītā, being threatened by those terrible ogresses, wiped away her tears and approached that Śiṃśapā tree.
ततस्तां शिंशपां सीता राक्षसीभिः समावृता ।
अभिगम्य विशालाक्षी तस्थौ शोकपरिप्लुता ॥१३॥
13. tatastāṃ śiṃśapāṃ sītā rākṣasībhiḥ samāvṛtā ,
abhigamya viśālākṣī tasthau śokapariplutā.
13. tataḥ tām śiṃśapām sītā rākṣasībhiḥ samāvṛtā
abhigamya viśālākṣī tasthau śokaparīplutā
13. tataḥ viśālākṣī sītā rākṣasībhiḥ samāvṛtā

13. Then, the wide-eyed Sītā, surrounded by ogresses and completely overcome by sorrow, went to that Śiṃśapā tree and stood there.
तां कृशां दीनवदनां मलिनाम्बरधारिणीम् ।
भर्त्सयां चक्रिरे भीमा राक्षस्यस्ताः समन्ततः ॥१४॥
14. tāṃ kṛśāṃ dīnavadanāṃ malināmbaradhāriṇīm ,
bhartsayāṃ cakrire bhīmā rākṣasyastāḥ samantataḥ.
14. tām kṛśām dīnavadanām malināmbaradhāriṇīm
bhartsayām cakrire bhīmāḥ rākṣasyaḥ tāḥ samantataḥ
14. tāḥ bhīmāḥ rākṣasyaḥ samantataḥ tāṃ kṛśām

14. From all directions, those terrible ogresses continued to threaten her, who was emaciated, with a sorrowful face, and clad in dirty clothes.
ततस्तां विनता नाम राक्षसी भीमदर्शना ।
अब्रवीत् कुपिताकारा कराला निर्णतोदरी ॥१५॥
15. tatastāṃ vinatā nāma rākṣasī bhīmadarśanā ,
abravīt kupitākārā karālā nirṇatodarī.
15. tataḥ tām vinatā nāma rākṣasī bhīmadarśanā
abravīt kupitākārā karālā nirṇatodarī
15. tataḥ vinatā nāma rākṣasī bhīmadarśanā

15. Then, an ogress named Vinatā, terrifying in appearance, formidable, with an enraged look, and a protruding belly, spoke to her.
सीते पर्याप्तमेतावद्भर्तृस्नेहो निदर्शितः ।
सर्वत्रातिकृतं भद्रे व्यसनायोपकल्पते ॥१६॥
16. sīte paryāptametāvadbhartṛsneho nidarśitaḥ ,
sarvatrātikṛtaṃ bhadre vyasanāyopakalpate.
16. sīte paryāptam etāvat bhartṛsnehaḥ nidarśitaḥ
sarvatra atikṛtam bhadre vyasanāya upakalpate
16. sīte etāvat paryāptam bhartṛsnehaḥ nidarśitaḥ
bhadre sarvatra atikṛtam vyasanāya upakalpate
16. O Sita, that is enough; your devotion to your husband has been sufficiently demonstrated. Indeed, O noble lady, excess in anything leads to misfortune (vyasana).
परितुष्टास्मि भद्रं ते मानुषस्ते कृतो विधिः ।
ममापि तु वचः पथ्यं ब्रुवन्त्याः कुरु मैथिलि ॥१७॥
17. parituṣṭāsmi bhadraṃ te mānuṣaste kṛto vidhiḥ ,
mamāpi tu vacaḥ pathyaṃ bruvantyāḥ kuru maithili.
17. parituṣṭā asmi bhadram te mānuṣaḥ te kṛtaḥ vidhiḥ
mama api tu vacaḥ pathyam bruvantyāḥ kuru maithili
17. maithili te bhadram te mānuṣaḥ vidhiḥ kṛtaḥ asmi
parituṣṭā api tu bruvantyāḥ mama pathyam vacaḥ kuru
17. I am content; may good fortune (bhadra) be upon you. Your human commitment (vidhi) has been fulfilled. But, O Maithili, also heed my salutary words as I speak them.
रावणं भज भर्तारं भर्तारं सर्वरक्षसाम् ।
विक्रान्तं रूपवन्तं च सुरेशमिव वासवम् ॥१८॥
18. rāvaṇaṃ bhaja bhartāraṃ bhartāraṃ sarvarakṣasām ,
vikrāntaṃ rūpavantaṃ ca sureśamiva vāsavam.
18. rāvaṇam bhaja bhartāram bhartāram sarvarakṣasām
vikrāntam rūpavantam ca sureśam iva vāsavam
18. rāvaṇam bhartāram sarvarakṣasām bhartāram
vikrāntam rūpavantam ca sureśam iva vāsavam bhaja
18. Accept Rāvaṇa as your husband, the protector of all rākṣasas. He is valorous and handsome, like Vāsava, the lord of the gods.
दक्षिणं त्यागशीलं च सर्वस्य प्रियवादिनम् ।
मानुषं कृपणं रामं त्यक्त्वा रावणमाश्रय ॥१९॥
19. dakṣiṇaṃ tyāgaśīlaṃ ca sarvasya priyavādinam ,
mānuṣaṃ kṛpaṇaṃ rāmaṃ tyaktvā rāvaṇamāśraya.
19. dakṣiṇam tyāgaśīlam ca sarvasya priyavādinam
mānuṣam kṛpaṇam rāmam tyaktvā rāvaṇam āśraya
19. sarvasya priyavādinam dakṣiṇam tyāgaśīlam ca
rāmam mānuṣam kṛpaṇam tyaktvā rāvaṇam āśraya
19. He is gracious (dakṣiṇam), generous, and speaks kindly to everyone. Abandon the miserable human Rāma and take refuge in Rāvaṇa.
दिव्याङ्गरागा वैदेहि दिव्याभरणभूषिता ।
अद्य प्रभृति सर्वेषां लोकानामीश्वरी भव ।
अग्नेः स्वाहा यथा देवी शचीवेन्द्रस्य शोभने ॥२०॥
20. divyāṅgarāgā vaidehi divyābharaṇabhūṣitā ,
adya prabhṛti sarveṣāṃ lokānāmīśvarī bhava ,
agneḥ svāhā yathā devī śacīvendrasya śobhane.
20. divyāṅgarāgā vaidehi divyābharaṇabhūṣitā
adya prabhṛti sarveṣām
lokānām īśvarī bhava agneḥ svāhā
yathā devī śacī iva indrasya śobhane
20. vaidehi divyāṅgarāgā divyābharaṇabhūṣitā
śobhane adya prabhṛti
sarveṣām lokānām īśvarī bhava yathā
devī svāhā agneḥ śacī iva indrasya
20. O Vaidehi, adorned with divine ointments and divine ornaments! From today onwards, become the sovereign queen of all worlds, just as the goddess Svāhā is to Agni, and Shachi is to Indra, O beautiful one!
किं ते रामेण वैदेहि
कृपणेन गतायुषा ॥२१॥
21. kiṃ te rāmeṇa vaidehi
kṛpaṇena gatāyuṣā.

21. O Vaidehi, what use is there for you with Rama, who is pitiable and whose life is as good as over?
एतदुक्तं च मे वाक्यं यदि त्वं न करिष्यसि ।
अस्मिन्मुहूर्ते सर्वास्त्वां भक्षयिष्यामहे वयम् ॥२२॥
22. etaduktaṃ ca me vākyaṃ yadi tvaṃ na kariṣyasi ,
asminmuhūrte sarvāstvāṃ bhakṣayiṣyāmahe vayam.
22. etat uktam ca me vākyam yadi tvam na kariṣyasi
asmin muhūrte sarvāḥ tvām bhakṣayiṣyāmahe vayam
22. yadi tvam me etat uktam vākyam na kariṣyasi
asmin muhūrte vayam sarvāḥ tvām bhakṣayiṣyāmahe
22. If you do not follow this statement spoken by me, then at this very moment, all of us will devour you.
अन्या तु विकटा नाम लम्बमानपयोधरा ।
अब्रवीत् कुपिता सीतां मुष्टिमुद्यम्य गर्जती ॥२३॥
23. anyā tu vikaṭā nāma lambamānapayodharā ,
abravīt kupitā sītāṃ muṣṭimudyamya garjatī.
23. anyā tu vikaṭā nāma lambamānapayodharā
abravīt kupitā sītām muṣṭim udyamya garjatī
23. tu anyā vikaṭā nāma lambamānapayodharā
kupitā garjatī muṣṭim udyamya sītām abravīt
23. But another (rākṣasī) named Vikaṭā, with pendulous breasts, spoke to Sita, angered, raising her fist and roaring.
बहून्यप्रतिरूपाणि वचनानि सुदुर्मते ।
अनुक्रोशान्मृदुत्वाच्च सोढानि तव मैथिलि ।
न च नः कुरुषे वाक्यं हितं कालपुरस्कृतम् ॥२४॥
24. bahūnyapratirūpāṇi vacanāni sudurmate ,
anukrośānmṛdutvācca soḍhāni tava maithili ,
na ca naḥ kuruṣe vākyaṃ hitaṃ kālapuraskṛtam.
24. bahūni apratirūpāṇi vacanāni
sudurmate anukrośāt mṛdutvāt ca
soḍhāni tava maithili na ca naḥ
kurūṣe vākyam hitam kālapuraskṛtam
24. sudurmate maithili,
tava bahūni apratirūpāṇi vacanāni anukrośāt mṛdutvāt ca soḍhāni ca naḥ hitam kālapuraskṛtam vākyam na kurūṣe
24. O greatly misguided one, many inappropriate words of yours have been tolerated by us due to compassion and gentleness, O Maithili. Yet, you do not follow our beneficial and timely advice.
आनीतासि समुद्रस्य पारमन्यैर्दुरासदम् ।
रावणान्तःपुरं घोरं प्रविष्टा चासि मैथिलि ॥२५॥
25. ānītāsi samudrasya pāramanyairdurāsadam ,
rāvaṇāntaḥpuraṃ ghoraṃ praviṣṭā cāsi maithili.
25. ānītā asi samudrasya pāram anyaiḥ durāsadam
rāvaṇāntaḥpuram ghoram praviṣṭā ca asi maithili
25. maithili,
tvam samudrasya anyaiḥ durāsadam pāram ānītā asi ca ghoram rāvaṇāntaḥpuram praviṣṭā asi
25. O Maithili, you have been brought to the other side of the ocean, which is inaccessible to others. And you have entered Rāvaṇa's dreadful inner chambers.
रावणस्य गृहे रुधा अस्माभिस्तु सुरक्षिता ।
न त्वां शक्तः परित्रातुमपि साक्षात् पुरंदरः ॥२६॥
26. rāvaṇasya gṛhe rudhā asmābhistu surakṣitā ,
na tvāṃ śaktaḥ paritrātumapi sākṣāt puraṃdaraḥ.
26. rāvaṇasya gṛhe ruddhā asmābhiḥ tu surakṣitā na
tvām śaktaḥ paritrātum api sākṣāt purandaraḥ
26. tvam rāvaṇasya gṛhe ruddhā asmābhiḥ tu surakṣitā
asi sākṣāt purandaraḥ api tvām paritrātum na śaktaḥ
26. Imprisoned in Rāvaṇa's house, you are indeed well-protected by us. Not even Indra himself is capable of rescuing you.
कुरुष्व हितवादिन्या वचनं मम मैथिलि ।
अलमश्रुप्रपातेन त्यज शोकमनर्थकम् ॥२७॥
27. kuruṣva hitavādinyā vacanaṃ mama maithili ,
alamaśruprapātena tyaja śokamanarthakam.
27. kurūṣva hitavādinyāḥ vacanam mama maithili
alam aśruprapātena tyaja śokam anarthakam
27. maithili,
mama hitavādinyāḥ vacanam kurūṣva aśruprapātena alam anarthakam śokam tyaja
27. O Maithili, heed my beneficial words. Enough of shedding tears; abandon this meaningless sorrow.
भज प्रीतिं प्रहर्षं च त्यजैतां नित्यदैन्यताम् ।
सीते राक्षसराजेन सह क्रीड यथासुखम् ॥२८॥
28. bhaja prītiṃ praharṣaṃ ca tyajaitāṃ nityadainyatām ,
sīte rākṣasarājena saha krīḍa yathāsukham.
28. bhaja prītim praharṣam ca tyaja etām nitya-dainyatām
sīte rākṣasa-rājena saha krīḍa yathā-sukham
28. Embrace joy and delight, and abandon this constant wretchedness, Sītā. Enjoy yourself with the king of rākṣasas as much as you please.
जानासि हि यथा भीरु स्त्रीणां यौवनमध्रुवम् ।
यावन्न ते व्यतिक्रामेत्तावत् सुखमवाप्नुहि ॥२९॥
29. jānāsi hi yathā bhīru strīṇāṃ yauvanamadhruvam ,
yāvanna te vyatikrāmettāvat sukhamavāpnuhi.
29. jānāsi hi yathā bhīru strīṇām yauvanam adhruvam
yāvat na te vyatikrāmet tāvat sukham avāpnuhi
29. Indeed, timid one, you know well how women's youth is impermanent. As long as it does not pass you by, attain happiness.
उद्यानानि च रम्याणि पर्वतोपवनानि च ।
सह राक्षसराजेन चर त्वं मदिरेक्षणे ॥३०॥
30. udyānāni ca ramyāṇi parvatopavanāni ca ,
saha rākṣasarājena cara tvaṃ madirekṣaṇe.
30. udyānāni ca ramyāṇi parvata-upavanāni ca
saha rākṣasa-rājena cara tvam madira-īkṣaṇe
30. And beautiful gardens, and mountain groves, you should roam with the king of rākṣasas, O woman with intoxicating eyes.
स्त्रीसहस्राणि ते सप्त वशे स्थास्यन्ति सुन्दरि ।
रावणं भज भर्तारं भर्तारं सर्वरक्षसाम् ॥३१॥
31. strīsahasrāṇi te sapta vaśe sthāsyanti sundari ,
rāvaṇaṃ bhaja bhartāraṃ bhartāraṃ sarvarakṣasām.
31. strī-sahasrāṇi te sapta vaśe sthāsyanti sundari
rāvaṇam bhaja bhartāram bhartāram sarva-rakṣasām
31. Seven thousand women will be under your control, O beautiful one. Worship Rāvaṇa as your husband, the husband of all rākṣasas.
उत्पाट्य वा ते हृदयं भक्षयिष्यामि मैथिलि ।
यदि मे व्याहृतं वाक्यं न यथावत् करिष्यसि ॥३२॥
32. utpāṭya vā te hṛdayaṃ bhakṣayiṣyāmi maithili ,
yadi me vyāhṛtaṃ vākyaṃ na yathāvat kariṣyasi.
32. utpāṭya vā te hṛdayam bhakṣayiṣyāmi maithili
yadi me vyāhṛtam vākyam na yathāvat kariṣyasi
32. maithili te hṛdayam utpāṭya vā bhakṣayiṣyāmi
yadi me vyāhṛtam vākyam yathāvat na kariṣyasi
32. O Maithili, I will tear out and devour your heart if you do not carry out my spoken command precisely.
ततश्चण्डोदरी नाम राक्षसी क्रूरदर्शना ।
भ्रामयन्ती महच्छूलमिदं वचनमब्रवीत् ॥३३॥
33. tataścaṇḍodarī nāma rākṣasī krūradarśanā ,
bhrāmayantī mahacchūlamidaṃ vacanamabravīt.
33. tataḥ caṇḍodarī nāma rākṣasī krūradarśanā
bhrāmayantī mahat śūlam idam vacanam abravīt

33. Then, a demoness (rākṣasī) named Caṇḍodarī, of fierce appearance, whirling a mighty spear, spoke these words.
इमां हरिणलोकाक्षीं त्रासोत्कम्पपयोधराम् ।
रावणेन हृतां दृष्ट्वा दौर्हृदो मे महानभूत् ॥३४॥
34. imāṃ hariṇalokākṣīṃ trāsotkampapayodharām ,
rāvaṇena hṛtāṃ dṛṣṭvā daurhṛdo me mahānabhūt.

rāvaṇena hṛtām dṛṣṭvā daurhṛdaḥ me mahān abhūt

34. Having seen this fawn-eyed woman, her breasts trembling from fear, abducted by Rāvaṇa, a great craving arose in me.
यकृत्प्लीहमथोत्पीडं हृदयं च सबन्धनम् ।
अन्त्राण्यपि तथा शीर्षं खादेयमिति मे मतिः ॥३५॥
35. yakṛtplīhamathotpīḍaṃ hṛdayaṃ ca sabandhanam ,
antrāṇyapi tathā śīrṣaṃ khādeyamiti me matiḥ.
35. yakṛt plīham atha utpīḍam hṛdayam ca sabandhanam
antrāṇi api tathā śīrṣam khādeyam iti me matiḥ
35. me matiḥ iti yakṛt plīham atha utpīḍam hṛdayam

35. My intention is that I should eat the liver, the spleen, the upper internal organs, and the heart along with its connecting tissues. Similarly, I would also devour the intestines and the head.
ततस्तु प्रघसा नाम राक्षसी वाक्यमब्रवीत् ।
कण्ठमस्या नृशंसायाः पीडयामः किमास्यते ॥३६॥
36. tatastu praghasā nāma rākṣasī vākyamabravīt ,
kaṇṭhamasyā nṛśaṃsāyāḥ pīḍayāmaḥ kimāsyate.
36. tataḥ tu praghasā nāma rākṣasī vākyam abravīt
kaṇṭham asyāḥ nṛśaṃsāyāḥ pīḍayāmaḥ kim āsyate
36. Then, a female demon named Praghasā spoke these words: "Let us strangle the neck of this cruel one! Why are we sitting idle?"
निवेद्यतां ततो राज्ञे मानुषी सा मृतेति ह ।
नात्र कश्चन संदेहः खादतेति स वक्ष्यति ॥३७॥
37. nivedyatāṃ tato rājñe mānuṣī sā mṛteti ha ,
nātra kaścana saṃdehaḥ khādateti sa vakṣyati.
37. nivedyatām tataḥ rājñe mānuṣī sā mṛtā iti ha na
atra kaścana sandehaḥ khādata iti sa vakṣyati
37. Then, let it be reported to the king that this human female is dead. There will be no doubt; he will say, 'Eat her!'
ततस्त्वजामुखी नाम राक्षसी वाक्यमब्रवीत् ।
विशस्येमां ततः सर्वान् समान् कुरुत पीलुकान् ॥३८॥
38. tatastvajāmukhī nāma rākṣasī vākyamabravīt ,
viśasyemāṃ tataḥ sarvān samān kuruta pīlukān.
38. tataḥ tu ajāmukhī nāma rākṣasī vākyam abravīt
viśasya imām tataḥ sarvān samān kuruta pīlukān
38. Then, a female demon named Ajāmukhī said, "After cutting her up, make all her parts into equal small pieces."
विभजाम ततः सर्वा विवादो मे न रोचते ।
पेयमानीयतां क्षिप्रं माल्यं च विविधं बहु ॥३९॥
39. vibhajāma tataḥ sarvā vivādo me na rocate ,
peyamānīyatāṃ kṣipraṃ mālyaṃ ca vividhaṃ bahu.
39. vibhajāma tataḥ sarvāḥ vivādaḥ me na rocate
peyam ānīyatām kṣipram mālyam ca vividham bahu
39. Then, let us divide it all, for I do not like disputes. Let a drink be brought quickly, along with many kinds of garlands.
ततः शूर्पणखा नाम राक्षसी वाक्यमब्रवीत् ।
अजामुखा यदुक्तं हि तदेव मम रोचते ॥४०॥
40. tataḥ śūrpaṇakhā nāma rākṣasī vākyamabravīt ,
ajāmukhā yaduktaṃ hi tadeva mama rocate.
40. tataḥ śūrpaṇakhā nāma rākṣasī vākyam abravīt
ajāmukhā yat uktam hi tat eva mama rocate
40. tataḥ śūrpaṇakhā nāma rākṣasī vākyam abravīt

40. Then a demoness (rākṣasī) named Śūrpaṇakhā spoke: "What Ajāmukhā has said truly pleases me."
सुरा चानीयतां क्षिप्रं सर्वशोकविनाशिनी ।
मानुषं मांसमासाद्य नृत्यामो ऽथ निकुम्भिलाम् ॥४१॥
41. surā cānīyatāṃ kṣipraṃ sarvaśokavināśinī ,
mānuṣaṃ māṃsamāsādya nṛtyāmo'tha nikumbhilām.
41. surā ca ānīyatām kṣipram sarvaśokavināśinī
mānuṣam māṃsam āsādya nṛtyāmaḥ atha nikumbhilām
41. ca sarvaśokavināśinī surā kṣipram ānīyatām atha
mānuṣam māṃsam āsādya nikumbhilām nṛtyāmaḥ
41. And let wine, destroyer of all sorrow, be brought quickly. Then, having obtained human flesh, we shall dance at Nikumbhilā.
एवं संभर्त्स्यमाना सा सीता सुरसुतोपमा ।
राक्षसीभिः सुघोराभिर्धैर्यमुत्सृज्य रोदिति ॥४२॥
42. evaṃ saṃbhartsyamānā sā sītā surasutopamā ,
rākṣasībhiḥ sughorābhirdhairyamutsṛjya roditi.

rākṣasībhiḥ sughorābhiḥ dhairyam utsṛjya roditi

42. Thus being severely threatened by the very dreadful demonesses (rākṣasī), Sītā, who resembled a divine maiden, abandoned her fortitude and wept.
