भर्तारं निहतं दृष्ट्वा लक्ष्मणं च महाबलम् ।
विललाप भृशं सीता करुणं शोककर्शिता ॥१॥

1. Seeing her husband slain and the mighty Lakṣmaṇa also killed, Sītā, afflicted by sorrow, lamented greatly and piteously.
ऊचुर्लक्षणिका ये मां पुत्रिण्यविधवेति च ।
ते ऽस्य सर्वे हते रामे ऽज्ञानिनो ऽनृतवादिनः ॥२॥
2. ūcurlakṣaṇikā ye māṃ putriṇyavidhaveti ca ,
te'sya sarve hate rāme'jñānino'nṛtavādinaḥ.

2. Those omen-readers who told me, 'You will have sons and not be a widow,' all of them, now that Rāma is slain, are ignorant and liars.
यज्वनो महिषीं ये मामूचुः पत्नीं च सत्रिणः ।
ते ऽद्य सर्वे हते रामे ऽज्ञानिनो ऽनृतवादिनः ॥३॥
3. yajvano mahiṣīṃ ye māmūcuḥ patnīṃ ca satriṇaḥ ,
te'dya sarve hate rāme'jñānino'nṛtavādinaḥ.
3. yajvanaḥ mahiṣīm ye mām ūcuḥ patnīm ca satriṇaḥ
te adya sarve hate rāme ajñāninaḥ anṛtavādinaḥ

3. Those who called me the queen of a performer of Vedic rituals (yajvan) and the wife of one engaged in long Vedic ceremonies (satrin), all of them, today, with Rāma slain, are ignorant and liars.
वीरपार्थिवपत्नी त्वं ये धन्येति च मां विदुः ।
ते ऽद्य सर्वे हते रामे ऽज्ञानिनो ऽनृतवादिनः ॥४॥
4. vīrapārthivapatnī tvaṃ ye dhanyeti ca māṃ viduḥ ,
te'dya sarve hate rāme'jñānino'nṛtavādinaḥ.
4. vīrapārthivapatnī tvam ye dhanyā iti ca mām viduḥ
te adya sarve hate rāme ajñāninaḥ anṛtavādinaḥ
4. ye mām tvam vīrapārthivapatnī dhanyā ca iti viduḥ

4. Those who considered me blessed, saying, 'You are the wife of a heroic king,' all of them, today, with Rāma slain, are ignorant and liars.
ऊचुः संश्रवणे ये मां द्विजाः कार्तान्तिकाः शुभाम् ।
ते ऽद्य सर्वे हते रामे ऽज्ञानिनो ऽनृतवादिनः ॥५॥
5. ūcuḥ saṃśravaṇe ye māṃ dvijāḥ kārtāntikāḥ śubhām ,
te'dya sarve hate rāme'jñānino'nṛtavādinaḥ.
5. ūcuḥ saṃśravaṇe ye māṃ dvijāḥ kārtāntikāḥ śubhām
te adya sarve hate rāme ajñāninaḥ anṛtavādinaḥ

5. Those Brahmins skilled in destiny, who spoke auspicious prophecies to me within earshot, all of them are today ignorant and liars, now that Rama has been slain.
इमानि खलु पद्मानि पादयोर्यैः किल स्त्रियः ।
अधिराज्ये ऽभिषिच्यन्ते नरेन्द्रैः पतिभिः सह ॥६॥
6. imāni khalu padmāni pādayoryaiḥ kila striyaḥ ,
adhirājye'bhiṣicyante narendraiḥ patibhiḥ saha.

adhirājye abhiṣicyante narendraiḥ patibhiḥ saha
6. khalu imāni padmāni pādayoḥ yaiḥ striyaḥ adhirājye

6. Indeed, these are the lotus marks on the feet, by means of which women are consecrated to a kingdom, together with their husbands, by kings.
वैधव्यं यान्ति यैर्नार्यो ऽलक्षणैर्भाग्यदुर्लभाः ।
नात्मनस्तानि पश्यामि पश्यन्ती हतलक्षणा ॥७॥
7. vaidhavyaṃ yānti yairnāryo'lakṣaṇairbhāgyadurlabhāḥ ,
nātmanastāni paśyāmi paśyantī hatalakṣaṇā.
7. vaidhavyaṃ yānti yaiḥ nāryaḥ alakṣaṇaiḥ bhāgyadurlabhāḥ
na ātmanaḥ tāni paśyāmi paśyantī hatalakṣaṇā
7. yaiḥ alakṣaṇaiḥ bhāgyadurlabhāḥ nāryaḥ vaidhavyaṃ yānti,
hatalakṣaṇā paśyantī ātmanaḥ tāni na paśyāmi
7. The inauspicious marks by which unfortunate women experience widowhood - those I do not see upon my own self (ātman), even though I am one whose auspicious signs are lost.
सत्यानीमानि पद्मानि स्त्रीणामुक्त्वानि लक्षणे ।
तान्यद्य निहते रामे वितथानि भवन्ति मे ॥८॥
8. satyānīmāni padmāni strīṇāmuktvāni lakṣaṇe ,
tānyadya nihate rāme vitathāni bhavanti me.
8. satyāni imāni padmāni strīṇām uktvāni lakṣaṇe
tāni adya nihate rāme vitathāni bhavanti me
8. strīṇām lakṣaṇe uktvāni imāni padmāni satyāni (āsan).
adya rāme nihate tāni me vitathāni bhavanti
8. These lotus marks, which were declared as true signs for women, all those today become futile for me, now that Rama is dead.
केशाः सूक्ष्माः समा नीला भ्रुवौ चासंगते मम ।
वृत्ते चालोमशे जङ्घे दन्ताश्चाविरला मम ॥९॥
9. keśāḥ sūkṣmāḥ samā nīlā bhruvau cāsaṃgate mama ,
vṛtte cālomaśe jaṅghe dantāścāviralā mama.
9. keśāḥ sūkṣmāḥ samāḥ nīlāḥ bhruvau ca asaṅgate mama
| vṛtte ca alomaśe jaṅghe dantāḥ ca aviralāḥ mama

9. My hair is fine, even, and dark. My eyebrows are unjoined. My shanks are rounded and smooth, and my teeth are close-set.
शङ्खे नेत्रे करौ पादौ गुल्फाव् ऊरू च मे चितौ ।
अनुवृत्ता नखाः स्निग्धाः समाश्चाङ्गुलयो मम ॥१०॥
10. śaṅkhe netre karau pādau gulphāv ūrū ca me citau ,
anuvṛttā nakhāḥ snigdhāḥ samāścāṅgulayo mama.

anuvṛttāḥ nakhāḥ snigdhāḥ samāḥ ca aṅgulayaḥ mama

10. My temples, eyes, hands, feet, ankles, and thighs are compact and well-formed. My nails are regular and smooth, and my fingers are even.
स्तनौ चाविरलौ पीनौ ममेमौ मग्नचूचुकौ ।
मग्ना चोत्सङ्गिनी नाभिः पार्श्वोरस्कं च मे चितम् ॥११॥
11. stanau cāviralau pīnau mamemau magnacūcukau ,
magnā cotsaṅginī nābhiḥ pārśvoraskaṃ ca me citam.
11. stanau ca aviralau pīnau mama imau magnacūcukau |
magnā ca utsaṅginī nābhiḥ pārśvoraskam ca me citam
11. mama imau stanau ca aviralau pīnau magnacūcukau
nābhiḥ ca magnā utsaṅginī me pārśvoraskam ca citam
11. My breasts are close-set and plump, these having sunken nipples. My navel is deep and prominent. And my flanks and chest are compact.
मम वर्णो मणिनिभो मृदून्यङ्गरुहाणि च ।
प्रतिष्ठितां द्वदशभिर्मामूचुः शुभलक्षणाम् ॥१२॥
12. mama varṇo maṇinibho mṛdūnyaṅgaruhāṇi ca ,
pratiṣṭhitāṃ dvadaśabhirmāmūcuḥ śubhalakṣaṇām.
12. mama varṇaḥ maṇinibhāḥ mṛdūni aṅgaruhāṇi ca |
pratiṣṭhitām dvādaśabhiḥ mām ūcuḥ śubhalakṣaṇām

12. My complexion is like a gem, and my body hair is soft. They declared me, endowed with auspicious characteristics, to be made perfect by twelve (features).
समग्रयवमच्छिद्रं पाणिपादं च वर्णवत् ।
मन्दस्मितेत्येव च मां कन्यालक्षणिका विदुः ॥१३॥
13. samagrayavamacchidraṃ pāṇipādaṃ ca varṇavat ,
mandasmitetyeva ca māṃ kanyālakṣaṇikā viduḥ.
13. samagrayavam acchidram pāṇipādam ca varṇavat
mandasmita iti eva ca mām kanyālakṣaṇikāḥ viduḥ
13. Experts in the auspicious marks of maidens knew me as having complete and flawless barley-grain marks on my hands and feet, possessing other auspicious features, and indeed as 'the gently smiling one'.
अधिराज्ये ऽभिषेको मे ब्राह्मणैः पतिना सह ।
कृतान्तकुशलैरुक्तं तत् सर्वं वितथीकृतम् ॥१४॥
14. adhirājye'bhiṣeko me brāhmaṇaiḥ patinā saha ,
kṛtāntakuśalairuktaṃ tat sarvaṃ vitathīkṛtam.
14. adhirājye abhiṣekaḥ me brāhmaṇaiḥ patinā saha
kṛtāntakuśalaiḥ uktam tat sarvam vitathīkṛtam
14. My coronation to paramount sovereignty, which was foretold by Brahmins (brāhmaṇaiḥ) and those skilled in destiny (kṛtāntakuśalaiḥ) to be alongside my husband, all of that has now been rendered untrue.
शोधयित्वा जनस्थानं प्रवृत्तिमुपलभ्य च ।
तीर्त्वा सागरमक्षोभ्यं भ्रातरौ गोष्पदे हतौ ॥१५॥
15. śodhayitvā janasthānaṃ pravṛttimupalabhya ca ,
tīrtvā sāgaramakṣobhyaṃ bhrātarau goṣpade hatau.
15. śodhayitvā janasthānam pravṛttim upalabhya ca
tīrtvā sāgaram akṣobhyam bhrātarau goṣpade hatau
15. After clearing Janasthana and gathering intelligence, and having crossed the immense ocean, the two brothers were slain as if in a mere cow's hoof-print (goṣpade).
ननु वारुणमाग्नेयमैन्द्रं वायव्यमेव च ।
अस्त्रं ब्रह्मशिरश्चैव राघवौ प्रत्यपद्यताम् ॥१६॥
16. nanu vāruṇamāgneyamaindraṃ vāyavyameva ca ,
astraṃ brahmaśiraścaiva rāghavau pratyapadyatām.
16. nanu vāruṇam āgneyam aindram vāyavyam eva ca
astram brahmaśiraḥ ca eva rāghavau pratyapadyatām
16. Did not the two Raghava princes (Rāghavau) acquire the Varuṇa (vāruṇam), Agni (āgneyam), Indra (aindram), and Vāyu (vāyavyam) missiles, and indeed even the Brahmaśiras weapon?
अदृश्यमानेन रणे मायया वासवोपमौ ।
मम नाथावनाथाया निहतौ रामलक्ष्मणौ ॥१७॥
17. adṛśyamānena raṇe māyayā vāsavopamau ,
mama nāthāvanāthāyā nihatau rāmalakṣmaṇau.
17. adṛśyamānena raṇe māyayā vāsavopamau mama
nāthau anāthāyāḥ nihatau rāmalakṣmaṇau
17. My protectors, Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa, who are like Indra, have been slain in battle by an unseen foe, through illusion (māyā), leaving me, a helpless one, without a master.
न हि दृष्टिपथं प्राप्य राघवस्य रणे रिपुः ।
जीवन्प्रतिनिवर्तेत यद्यपि स्यान्मनोजवः ॥१८॥
18. na hi dṛṣṭipathaṃ prāpya rāghavasya raṇe ripuḥ ,
jīvanpratinivarteta yadyapi syānmanojavaḥ.
18. na hi dṛṣṭipathaṃ prāpya rāghavasya raṇe ripuḥ
jīvan pratinivarteta yadyapi syāt manojavāḥ
18. Indeed, no enemy, even if as swift as thought, would return alive from battle after coming within Rāghava's (Rāma's) sight.
न कालस्यातिभारो ऽस्ति कृतान्तश्च सुदुर्जयः ।
यत्र रामः सह भ्रात्रा शेते युधि निपाथितः ॥१९॥
19. na kālasyātibhāro'sti kṛtāntaśca sudurjayaḥ ,
yatra rāmaḥ saha bhrātrā śete yudhi nipāthitaḥ.
19. na kālasya atibhāraḥ asti kṛtāntaḥ ca sudurjayaḥ
yatra rāmaḥ saha bhrātrā śete yudhi nipātitaḥ
19. Time (kāla) bears no excessive burden, and Death (kṛtānta) is truly unconquerable. Yet, here Rāma lies slain in battle with his brother.
नाहं शोचामि भर्तारं निहतं न च लक्ष्मणम् ।
नात्मानं जननी चापि यथा श्वश्रूं तपस्विनीम् ॥२०॥
20. nāhaṃ śocāmi bhartāraṃ nihataṃ na ca lakṣmaṇam ,
nātmānaṃ jananī cāpi yathā śvaśrūṃ tapasvinīm.
20. na ahaṃ śocāmi bhartāraṃ nihataṃ na ca lakṣmaṇam
na ātmānaṃ jananī ca api yathā śvaśrūṃ tapasvinīm
20. I grieve neither for my slain husband, nor for Lakṣmaṇa, nor for myself, nor even for my mother, as much as I do for my pitiable mother-in-law.
सा हि चिन्तयते नित्यं समाप्तव्रतमागतम् ।
कदा द्रक्ष्यामि सीतां च रामं च सहलक्ष्मणम् ॥२१॥
21. sā hi cintayate nityaṃ samāptavratamāgatam ,
kadā drakṣyāmi sītāṃ ca rāmaṃ ca sahalakṣmaṇam.
21. sā hi cintayate nityam samāptavratam āgatam
kadā drakṣyāmi sītām ca rāmam ca sahalakṣmaṇam
21. sā hi nityam cintayate aham kadā sītām ca rāmam
sahalakṣmaṇam ca samāptavratam āgatam drakṣyāmi
21. She (Sītā) indeed constantly thinks: 'When will I see Sītā, and Rāma, who has completed his vow and returned, along with Lakṣmaṇa?'
परिदेवयमानां तां राक्षसी त्रिजटाब्रवीत् ।
मा विषादं कृथा देवि भर्तायं तव जीवति ॥२२॥
22. paridevayamānāṃ tāṃ rākṣasī trijaṭābravīt ,
mā viṣādaṃ kṛthā devi bhartāyaṃ tava jīvati.
22. paridevayamānām tām rākṣasī trijaṭā abravīt mā
viṣādam kṛthāḥ devi bhartā ayam tava jīvati
22. rākṣasī trijaṭā paridevayamānām tām abravīt
devi mā viṣādam kṛthāḥ tava ayam bhartā jīvati
22. To her, who was lamenting, the demoness Trijaṭā said: 'O goddess, do not despair; your husband lives!'
कारणानि च वक्ष्यामि महान्ति सदृशानि च ।
यथेमौ जीवतो देवि भ्रातरौ रामलक्ष्मणौ ॥२३॥
23. kāraṇāni ca vakṣyāmi mahānti sadṛśāni ca ,
yathemau jīvato devi bhrātarau rāmalakṣmaṇau.
23. kāraṇāni ca vakṣyāmi mahānti sadṛśāni ca yathā
imau jīvataḥ devi bhrātarau rāmalakṣmaṇau
23. devi aham mahānti sadṛśāni ca kāraṇāni vakṣyāmi
yathā imau bhrātarau rāmalakṣmaṇau jīvataḥ
23. O goddess, I will tell you great and appropriate reasons as to how these two brothers, Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa, are still alive.
न हि कोपपरीतानि हर्षपर्युत्सुकानि च ।
भवन्ति युधि योधानां मुखानि निहते पतौ ॥२४॥
24. na hi kopaparītāni harṣaparyutsukāni ca ,
bhavanti yudhi yodhānāṃ mukhāni nihate patau.
24. na hi kopaparītāni harṣaparyutsukāni ca
bhavanti yudhi yodhānām mukhāni nihate patau
24. hi yudhi yodhānām mukhāni nihate patau na
kopaparītāni harṣaparyutsukāni ca bhavanti
24. Indeed, in battle, the faces of warriors are not filled with anger and eager with joy when their leader is slain.
इदं विमानं वैदेहि पुष्पकं नाम नामतः ।
दिव्यं त्वां धारयेन्नेदं यद्येतौ गजजीवितौ ॥२५॥
25. idaṃ vimānaṃ vaidehi puṣpakaṃ nāma nāmataḥ ,
divyaṃ tvāṃ dhārayennedaṃ yadyetau gajajīvitau.
25. idam vimānam vaidehi puṣpakam nāma nāmataḥ divyam
tvām dhārayet na idam yadi etau gajajīvitau
25. vaidehi idam divyam puṣpakam nāma nāmataḥ vimānam
tvām dhārayet na idam yadi etau gajajīvitau
25. O Vaidehi, this divine aerial chariot, named Puṣpaka by name, would not be carrying you if these two (Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa) were alive and strong like elephants.
हतवीरप्रधाना हि हतोत्साहा निरुद्यमा ।
सेना भ्रमति संख्येषु हतकर्णेव नौर्जले ॥२६॥
26. hatavīrapradhānā hi hatotsāhā nirudyamā ,
senā bhramati saṃkhyeṣu hatakarṇeva naurjale.
26. hata-vīra-pradhānā hi hata-utsāhā nir-udyamā
senā bhramati saṃkhyeṣu hata-karṇā iva nauḥ jale
26. hi hata-vīra-pradhānā hata-utsāhā nir-udyamā
senā saṃkhyeṣu bhramati hata-karṇā nauḥ jale iva
26. Indeed, an army whose chief warriors are slain, whose enthusiasm is crushed, and which is devoid of enterprise, flounders in battles just like a boat with a broken rudder flounders in water.
इयं पुनरसंभ्रान्ता निरुद्विग्ना तरस्विनी ।
सेना रक्षति काकुत्स्थौ मायया निर्जितौ रणे ॥२७॥
27. iyaṃ punarasaṃbhrāntā nirudvignā tarasvinī ,
senā rakṣati kākutsthau māyayā nirjitau raṇe.
27. iyam punaḥ a-saṃbhrāntā nir-udvignā tarasvinī
senā rakṣati kākutsthau māyayā nir-jitau raṇe
27. punaḥ iyam a-saṃbhrāntā nir-udvignā tarasvinī
senā raṇe māyayā nir-jitau kākutsthau rakṣati
27. But this mighty army, undisturbed and unafraid, protects the two Kakutsthas (Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa) who were conquered in battle through illusion (māyā).
सा त्वं भव सुविस्रब्धा अनुमानैः सुखोदयैः ।
अहतौ पश्य काकुत्स्थौ स्नेहादेतद्ब्रवीमि ते ॥२८॥
28. sā tvaṃ bhava suvisrabdhā anumānaiḥ sukhodayaiḥ ,
ahatau paśya kākutsthau snehādetadbravīmi te.
28. sā tvam bhava su-visrabdhā anumānaiḥ sukha-udayaiḥ
a-hatau paśya kākutsthau snehāt etat bravīmi te
28. sā tvam sukha-udayaiḥ anumānaiḥ su-visrabdhā bhava
kākutsthau a-hatau paśya! snehāt etat te bravīmi
28. Therefore, you should be very confident with inferences that lead to happiness. See, the two Kakutsthas (Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa) are unharmed! I tell you this out of affection.
अनृतं नोक्तपूर्वं मे न च वक्ष्ये कदा चन ।
चारित्रसुखशीलत्वात् प्रविष्टासि मनो मम ॥२९॥
29. anṛtaṃ noktapūrvaṃ me na ca vakṣye kadā cana ,
cāritrasukhaśīlatvāt praviṣṭāsi mano mama.
29. anṛtam na uktapūrvam me na ca vakṣye kadā cana
cāritrasukhaśīlatvāt praviṣṭā asi manaḥ mama
29. me anṛtam uktapūrvam na na ca kadā cana vakṣye.
cāritrasukhaśīlatvāt mama manaḥ praviṣṭā asi.
29. An untruth has never been spoken by me, nor will I ever speak one. Due to your virtuous and pleasant nature, you have entered my heart.
नेमौ शक्यौ रणे जेतुं सेन्द्रैरपि सुरासुरैः ।
एतयोराननं दृष्ट्वा मया चावेदितं तव ॥३०॥
30. nemau śakyau raṇe jetuṃ sendrairapi surāsuraiḥ ,
etayorānanaṃ dṛṣṭvā mayā cāveditaṃ tava.
30. na imau śakyau raṇe jetum sa-indraiḥ api sura-asuraiḥ
etayoḥ ānanam dṛṣṭvā mayā ca āveditam tava
30. imau raṇe sa-indraiḥ api sura-asuraiḥ jetum na śakyau.
etayoḥ आननम् dṛṣṭvā mayā ca tava āveditam.
30. These two cannot be conquered in battle, not even by the gods and asuras, even if led by Indra. Having seen their faces, I have conveyed this to you.
इदं च सुमहच्चिह्नं शनैः पश्यस्व मैथिलि ।
निःसंज्ञावप्युभावेतौ नैव लक्ष्मीर्वियुज्यते ॥३१॥
31. idaṃ ca sumahaccihnaṃ śanaiḥ paśyasva maithili ,
niḥsaṃjñāvapyubhāvetau naiva lakṣmīrviyujyate.
31. idam ca su-mahat-cihnam śanaiḥ paśyasva maithili
niḥsaṃjñau api ubhau etau na eva lakṣmīḥ viyujyate
31. maithili,
idam ca su-mahat-cihnam śanaiḥ paśyasva.
ubhau etau niḥsaṃjñau api,
lakṣmīḥ na eva viyujyate.
31. And look carefully, Maithili, at this very great sign. Even though both of these two are unconscious, their auspicious characteristics (lakṣmī) are by no means separated (from them).
प्रायेण गतसत्त्वानां पुरुषाणां गतायुषाम् ।
दृश्यमानेषु वक्त्रेषु परं भवति वैकृतम् ॥३२॥
32. prāyeṇa gatasattvānāṃ puruṣāṇāṃ gatāyuṣām ,
dṛśyamāneṣu vaktreṣu paraṃ bhavati vaikṛtam.
32. prāyeṇa gata-sattvānām puruṣāṇām gata-āyuṣām
dṛśyamāneṣu vaktreṣu param bhavati vaikṛtam
32. prāyeṇa gata-sattvānām gata-āyuṣām puruṣāṇām dṛśyamāneṣu vaktreṣu param vaikṛtam bhavati.
32. Generally, for men whose strength has departed and whose life has come to an end, a great disfigurement occurs in their visible faces.
त्यज शोकं च दुःखं च मोहं च जनकात्मजे ।
रामलक्ष्मणयोरर्थे नाद्य शक्यमजीवितुम् ॥३३॥
33. tyaja śokaṃ ca duḥkhaṃ ca mohaṃ ca janakātmaje ,
rāmalakṣmaṇayorarthe nādya śakyamajīvitum.
33. tyaja śokam ca duḥkham ca moham ca janakātmaje
rāmalakṣmaṇayoḥ arthe na adya śakyam ajīvitum
33. O daughter of Janaka (Sītā), abandon grief, suffering, and delusion. For the sake of Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa, it is now impossible for you to die.
श्रुत्वा तु वचनं तस्याः सीता सुरसुतोपमा ।
कृताञ्जलिरुवाचेदमेवमस्त्विति मैथिली ॥३४॥
34. śrutvā tu vacanaṃ tasyāḥ sītā surasutopamā ,
kṛtāñjaliruvācedamevamastviti maithilī.

kṛtāñjaliḥ uvāca idam evam astu iti maithilī
34. Having heard her words, Sītā, who resembled a celestial nymph, with folded hands, said, 'So be it!' Thus spoke Maithilī.
विमानं पुष्पकं तत्तु समिवर्त्य मनोजवम् ।
दीना त्रिजटया सीता लङ्कामेव प्रवेशिता ॥३५॥
35. vimānaṃ puṣpakaṃ tattu samivartya manojavam ,
dīnā trijaṭayā sītā laṅkāmeva praveśitā.
35. vimānam puṣpakam tat tu samivartya manojavam
dīnā trijatayā sītā laṅkām eva praveśitā
35. Indeed, after turning back that mind-swift Puṣpaka aerial car, the distressed Sītā was brought into Laṅkā itself by Trijatā.
ततस्त्रिजटया सार्धं पुष्पकादवरुह्य सा ।
अशोकवनिकामेव रक्षसीभिः प्रवेशिता ॥३६॥
36. tatastrijaṭayā sārdhaṃ puṣpakādavaruhya sā ,
aśokavanikāmeva rakṣasībhiḥ praveśitā.
36. tataḥ trijatayā sārdham puṣpakāt avaruhya
sā aśokavanikām eva rakṣasībhiḥ praveśitā
36. Then, having descended from the Puṣpaka aerial car along with Trijatā, she was indeed brought into the Aśoka grove by the female rākṣasas (rakṣasīs).
प्रविश्य सीता बहुवृक्षषण्डां तां राक्षसेन्द्रस्य विहारभूमिम् ।
संप्रेक्ष्य संचिन्त्य च राजपुत्रौ परं विषादं समुपाजगाम ॥३७॥
37. praviśya sītā bahuvṛkṣaṣaṇḍāṃ tāṃ rākṣasendrasya vihārabhūmim ,
saṃprekṣya saṃcintya ca rājaputrau paraṃ viṣādaṃ samupājagāma.

tām rākṣasendrasya vihārabhūmim
samprekṣya saṃcintya ca
rājaputrau param viṣādam samupājagāma
37. Having entered that pleasure ground of the king of rākṣasas, which was full of many groves, Sītā, upon seeing and contemplating the two princes, fell into extreme despair.
