स दत्त्वा तुमुलं युद्धं रावणस्य दुरात्मनः ।
विसृजन्नेव बाणौघान् सुषेणं वाक्यमब्रवीत् ॥१॥

1. After having fought a fierce battle with the evil-souled Ravana, and while still discharging volleys of arrows, he (Rāma) spoke to Suṣeṇa.
एष रावणवेगेन लक्ष्मणः पतितः क्षितौ ।
सर्पवद्वेष्टते वीरो मम शोकमुदीरयन् ॥२॥
2. eṣa rāvaṇavegena lakṣmaṇaḥ patitaḥ kṣitau ,
sarpavadveṣṭate vīro mama śokamudīrayan.

2. This hero, Lakṣmaṇa, has fallen to the ground from the force of Ravana. He writhes like a snake, intensifying my sorrow.
शोणितार्द्रमिमं वीरं प्राणैरिष्टतरं मम ।
पश्यतो मम का शक्तिर्योद्धुं पर्याकुलात्मनः ॥३॥
3. śoṇitārdramimaṃ vīraṃ prāṇairiṣṭataraṃ mama ,
paśyato mama kā śaktiryoddhuṃ paryākulātmanaḥ.

3. What strength do I possess to fight, as I look upon this blood-soaked hero, who is dearer to me than my own life, when my own spirit (ātman) is completely agitated?
अयं स समरश्लाघी भ्राता मे शुभलक्षणः ।
यदि पञ्चत्वमापन्नः प्राणैर्मे किं सुखेन वा ॥४॥
4. ayaṃ sa samaraślāghī bhrātā me śubhalakṣaṇaḥ ,
yadi pañcatvamāpannaḥ prāṇairme kiṃ sukhena vā.
4. ayam saḥ samaraślāghī bhrātā me śubhalakṣaṇaḥ
yadi pañcatvam āpannaḥ prāṇaiḥ me kim sukhena vā

[tarhi] me prāṇaiḥ vā sukhena kim?
4. This is that brother of mine, glorious in battle and endowed with auspicious marks. If he has met his demise, then what use are my very life-breaths or any happiness?
लज्जतीव हि मे वीर्यं भ्रश्यतीव कराद्धनुः ।
सायका व्यवसीदन्ति दृष्टिर्बाष्पवशं गता ।
चिन्ता मे वर्धते तीव्रा मुमूर्षा चोपजायते ॥५॥
5. lajjatīva hi me vīryaṃ bhraśyatīva karāddhanuḥ ,
sāyakā vyavasīdanti dṛṣṭirbāṣpavaśaṃ gatā ,
cintā me vardhate tīvrā mumūrṣā copajāyate.
5. lajjati iva hi me vīryam bhraśyati
iva karāt dhanuḥ sāyakāḥ vyavasīdanti
dṛṣṭiḥ bāṣpavaśam gatā cintā me
vardhate tīvrā mumūrṣā ca upajāyate
5. hi me vīryam lajjati iva,
karāt dhanuḥ bhraśyati iva.
sāyakāḥ vyavasīdanti.
dṛṣṭiḥ bāṣpavaśam gatā.
me tīvrā cintā vardhate,
ca mumūrṣā upajāyate.
5. Indeed, my valor seems to be ashamed, and my bow appears to slip from my hand. My arrows are failing, and my vision is clouded by tears. An intense anxiety (cintā) grows within me, and a desire to die (mumūrṣā) arises.
भ्रातरं निहतं दृष्ट्वा रावणेन दुरात्मना ।
परं विषादमापन्नो विललापाकुलेन्द्रियः ॥६॥
6. bhrātaraṃ nihataṃ dṛṣṭvā rāvaṇena durātmanā ,
paraṃ viṣādamāpanno vilalāpākulendriyaḥ.

param viṣādam āpannaḥ vilalāpa ākulendriyaḥ
6. rāvaṇena durātmanā nihatam bhrātaram dṛṣṭvā,

6. Having seen his brother slain by the evil-minded Rāvaṇa, he fell into great despondency and lamented with agitated senses.
न हि युद्धेन मे कार्यं नैव प्राणैर्न सीतया ।
भ्रातरं निहतं दृष्ट्वा लक्ष्मणं रणपांसुषु ॥७॥
7. na hi yuddhena me kāryaṃ naiva prāṇairna sītayā ,
bhrātaraṃ nihataṃ dṛṣṭvā lakṣmaṇaṃ raṇapāṃsuṣu.
7. na hi yuddhena me kāryam na eva prāṇaiḥ na sītayā
bhrātaram nihatam dṛṣṭvā lakṣmaṇam raṇapāṃsuṣu
7. lakṣmaṇam bhrātaram raṇapāṃsuṣu nihatam dṛṣṭvā,
hi me yuddhena na kāryam,
na eva prāṇaiḥ,
na sītayā (asti).
7. Indeed, I have no concern with war, nor with my life-breaths, nor even with Sītā, having seen my brother Lakṣmaṇa lying slain in the dust of battle.
किं मे राज्येन किं प्राणैर्युद्धे कार्यं न विद्यते ।
यत्रायं निहतः शेते रणमूर्धनि लक्ष्मणः ॥८॥
8. kiṃ me rājyena kiṃ prāṇairyuddhe kāryaṃ na vidyate ,
yatrāyaṃ nihataḥ śete raṇamūrdhani lakṣmaṇaḥ.
8. kim me rājyena kim prāṇaiḥ yuddhe kāryam na vidyate
yatra ayam nihataḥ śete raṇamūrdhani lakṣmaṇaḥ
8. yatra ayam lakṣmaṇaḥ nihataḥ raṇamūrdhani śete,
kim me rājyena? kim prāṇaiḥ? yuddhe kāryam na vidyate.
8. What use is the kingdom to me? What use are my very lives? There is no purpose in battle for me, when this Lakṣmaṇa lies slain on the battlefield.
राममाश्वासयन् वीरः सुषेणो वाक्यमब्रवीत् ।
न मृतो ऽयं महाबाहुर्लक्ष्मणो लक्ष्मिवर्धनः ॥९॥
9. rāmamāśvāsayan vīraḥ suṣeṇo vākyamabravīt ,
na mṛto'yaṃ mahābāhurlakṣmaṇo lakṣmivardhanaḥ.
9. rāmam āśvāsayān vīraḥ suṣeṇaḥ vākyam abravīt na
mṛtaḥ ayam mahābāhuḥ lakṣmaṇaḥ lakṣmivardhanaḥ
9. vīraḥ suṣeṇaḥ rāmam āśvāsayān vākyam abravīt: ayam mahābāhuḥ lakṣmaṇaḥ lakṣmivardhanaḥ na mṛtaḥ.
9. The heroic Suṣeṇa, reassuring Rāma, spoke these words: 'This mighty-armed Lakṣmaṇa, enhancer of prosperity, is not dead.'
न चास्य विकृतं वक्त्रं नापि श्यामं न निष्प्रभम् ।
सुप्रभं च प्रसन्नं च मुखमस्याभिलक्ष्यते ॥१०॥
10. na cāsya vikṛtaṃ vaktraṃ nāpi śyāmaṃ na niṣprabham ,
suprabhaṃ ca prasannaṃ ca mukhamasyābhilakṣyate.
10. na ca asya vikṛtam vaktram na api śyāmam na niṣprabham
suprabham ca prasannam ca mukham asya abhilaṣyate
10. asya vaktram na vikṛtam ca,
na api śyāmam,
na niṣprabham.
asya mukham suprabham ca prasannam ca abhilaṣyate.
10. Neither is his face distorted, nor dark, nor devoid of luster. Rather, his face appears radiant and serene.
पद्मरक्ततलौ हस्तौ सुप्रसन्ने च लोचने ।
एवं न विद्यते रूपं गतासूनां विशां पते ।
मां विषादं कृथा वीर सप्राणो ऽयमरिंदम ॥११॥
11. padmaraktatalau hastau suprasanne ca locane ,
evaṃ na vidyate rūpaṃ gatāsūnāṃ viśāṃ pate ,
māṃ viṣādaṃ kṛthā vīra saprāṇo'yamariṃdama.

11. hastau padmaraktatalau,
ca locane suprasanne.
he viśām pate,
evam rūpam gatāsūnām na vidyate.
he vīra,
he arimdam,
mām viṣādam kṛthāḥ,
ayam saprāṇaḥ.
11. His hands have palms red like lotuses, and his eyes are very clear. Such features are not found, O lord of the people, in those whose vital breaths (prāṇa) have departed. O hero, O subduer of enemies, do not cause me grief; this one is still alive.
आख्यास्यते प्रसुप्तस्य स्रस्तगात्रस्य भूतले ।
सोच्छ्वासं हृदयं वीर कम्पमानं मुहुर्मुहुः ॥१२॥
12. ākhyāsyate prasuptasya srastagātrasya bhūtale ,
socchvāsaṃ hṛdayaṃ vīra kampamānaṃ muhurmuhuḥ.
12. ākhyāsyate prasuptasya srastagātrasya bhūtale
socchvāsam hṛdayam vīra kampamānam muhurmuhuḥ
12. vīra prasuptasya srastagātrasya bhūtale socchvāsam

12. O hero, the heart of the one lying deeply asleep on the ground with slack limbs, sighing and trembling repeatedly, will reveal (his condition).
एवमुक्त्वा तु वाक्यज्ञः सुषेणो राघवं वचः ।
समीपस्थमुवाचेदं हनूमन्तमभित्वरन् ॥१३॥
13. evamuktvā tu vākyajñaḥ suṣeṇo rāghavaṃ vacaḥ ,
samīpasthamuvācedaṃ hanūmantamabhitvaran.
13. evam uktvā tu vākyajñaḥ suṣeṇaḥ rāghavam vacaḥ
samīpastham uvāca idam hanūmantam abhitvaran
13. vākyajñaḥ suṣeṇaḥ rāghavam evam vacaḥ uktvā tu
abhitvaran samīpastham hanūmantam idam uvāca
13. Having thus spoken to Rāma, Suṣeṇa, who was skilled in speech, then urgently spoke this to Hanumān, who was standing nearby.
सौम्य शीघ्रमितो गत्वा शैलमोषधिपर्वतम् ।
पूर्वं हि कथितो यो ऽसौ वीर जाम्बवता शुभः ॥१४॥
14. saumya śīghramito gatvā śailamoṣadhiparvatam ,
pūrvaṃ hi kathito yo'sau vīra jāmbavatā śubhaḥ.
14. saumya śīghram itaḥ gatvā śailam oṣadhiparvatam
pūrvam hi kathitaḥ yaḥ asau vīra jāmbavatā śubhaḥ
14. saumya vīra itaḥ śīghram gatvā śailam oṣadhiparvatam,
yaḥ asau śubhaḥ pūrvam hi jāmbavatā kathitaḥ
14. O gentle hero, having quickly gone from here to the Mountain of Herbs – that auspicious mountain which was indeed previously described by Jāmbavat –
दक्षिणे शिखरे तस्य जातामोषधिमानय ।
विशल्यकरणी नाम विशल्यकरणीं शुभाम् ॥१५॥
15. dakṣiṇe śikhare tasya jātāmoṣadhimānaya ,
viśalyakaraṇī nāma viśalyakaraṇīṃ śubhām.
15. dakṣiṇe śikhare tasya jātām oṣadhim ānaya
viśalyakaraṇī nāma viśalyakaraṇīm śubhām
15. tasya dakṣiṇe śikhare jātām oṣadhim

15. Bring the auspicious herb named Viśalyakaraṇī (the arrow-removing one), which has grown on its southern peak.
सौवर्णकरणीं चापि तथा संजीवनीमपि ।
संधानकरणीं चापि गत्वा शीघ्रमिहानय ।
संजीवनार्थं वीरस्य लक्ष्मणस्य महात्मनः ॥१६॥
16. sauvarṇakaraṇīṃ cāpi tathā saṃjīvanīmapi ,
saṃdhānakaraṇīṃ cāpi gatvā śīghramihānaya ,
saṃjīvanārthaṃ vīrasya lakṣmaṇasya mahātmanaḥ.
16. sauvarṇakaraṇīm ca api tathā saṃjīvanīm
api saṃdhānakaraṇīm ca api
gatvā śīghram iha ānaya saṃjīvanārtham
vīrasya lakṣmaṇasya mahātmanaḥ
16. vīrasya mahātmanaḥ lakṣmaṇasya
saṃjīvanārtham sauvarṇakaraṇīm ca api
tathā saṃjīvanīm api saṃdhānakaraṇīm
ca api (tvam) śīghram iha gatvā ānaya
16. Go quickly and bring here the sauvarṇakaraṇī, the saṃjīvanī, and also the saṃdhānakaraṇī, for the purpose of reviving the great-souled hero Lakṣmaṇa.
इत्येवमुक्तो हनुमान् गत्वा चौषधिपर्वतम् ।
चिन्तामभ्यगमच्छ्रीमानजानंस्ता महौषधीः ॥१७॥
17. ityevamukto hanumān gatvā cauṣadhiparvatam ,
cintāmabhyagamacchrīmānajānaṃstā mahauṣadhīḥ.
17. iti evam uktaḥ hanumān gatvā ca oṣadhiparvatam
cintām abhyagamat śrīmān ajānan tāḥ mahauṣadhīḥ
17. iti evam uktaḥ śrīmān hanumān oṣadhiparvatam
gatvā ca tāḥ mahauṣadhīḥ ajānan cintām abhyagamat
17. Thus instructed, the glorious Hanumān went to the mountain of herbs and became filled with anxiety, for he did not know those great herbs.
तस्य बुद्धिः समुत्पन्ना मारुतेरमितौजसः ।
इदमेव गमिष्यामि गृहीत्वा शिखरं गिरेः ॥१८॥
18. tasya buddhiḥ samutpannā māruteramitaujasaḥ ,
idameva gamiṣyāmi gṛhītvā śikharaṃ gireḥ.
18. tasya buddhiḥ samutpannā māruteḥ amitaujasaḥ
idam eva gamiṣyāmi gṛhītvā śikharam gireḥ
18. amitaujasaḥ māruteḥ tasya buddhiḥ samutpannā -
(aham) gireḥ idam śikharam gṛhītvā eva gamiṣyāmi
18. An idea then occurred to Māruti, who possessed immeasurable might: 'I will indeed go, taking this very peak of the mountain.'
अगृह्य यदि गच्छामि विशल्यकरणीमहम् ।
कालात्ययेन दोषः स्याद्वैक्लव्यं च महद्भवेत् ॥१९॥
19. agṛhya yadi gacchāmi viśalyakaraṇīmaham ,
kālātyayena doṣaḥ syādvaiklavyaṃ ca mahadbhavet.
19. agṛhya yadi gacchāmi viśalyakaraṇīm aham
kālātyayena doṣaḥ syāt vaiklavyam ca mahat bhavet
19. yadi aham viśalyakaraṇīm agṛhya gacchāmi,
(tarhi) kālātyayena doṣaḥ syāt,
ca mahat vaiklavyam bhavet
19. If I depart without taking the viśalyakaraṇī, there will be a problem due to the delay, and great distress will arise.
इति संचिन्त्य हनुमान् गत्वा क्षिप्रं महाबलः ।
उत्पपात गृहीत्वा तु हनूमाञ् शिखरं गिरेः ॥२०॥
20. iti saṃcintya hanumān gatvā kṣipraṃ mahābalaḥ ,
utpapāta gṛhītvā tu hanūmāñ śikharaṃ gireḥ.
20. iti saṃcintya hanumān gatvā kṣipram mahābalaḥ
utpapāta gṛhītvā tu hanumān śikharam gireḥ
20. Having thus pondered, the mighty Hanumān quickly went and then sprang up. Indeed, Hanumān flew upwards, grasping the peak of the mountain.
ओषधीर्नावगछामि ता अहं हरिपुंगव ।
तदिदं शिखरं कृत्स्नं गिरेस्तस्याहृतं मया ॥२१॥
21. oṣadhīrnāvagachāmi tā ahaṃ haripuṃgava ,
tadidaṃ śikharaṃ kṛtsnaṃ girestasyāhṛtaṃ mayā.
21. oṣadhīḥ na avagacchāmi tāḥ aham haripuṅgava tat
idam śikharam kṛtsnam gireḥ tasya āhṛtam mayā
21. O best among monkeys, I do not recognize those specific medicinal herbs. Therefore, this entire peak of that mountain has been brought by me.
एवं कथयमानं तं प्रशस्य पवनात्मजम् ।
सुषेणो वानरश्रेष्ठो जग्राहोत्पाट्य चौषधीः ॥२२॥
22. evaṃ kathayamānaṃ taṃ praśasya pavanātmajam ,
suṣeṇo vānaraśreṣṭho jagrāhotpāṭya cauṣadhīḥ.
22. evam kathayamānam tam praśasya pavanātmajam
suṣeṇaḥ vānaraśreṣṭhaḥ jagrāha utpāṭya ca oṣadhīḥ
22. Praising the son of the wind (pavanātmaja) who was speaking thus, Suṣeṇa, the foremost among monkeys, then uprooted and took the medicinal herbs.
ततः संक्षोदयित्वा तामोषधिं वानरोत्तमः ।
लक्ष्मणस्य ददौ नस्तः सुषेणः सुमहाद्युतिः ॥२३॥
23. tataḥ saṃkṣodayitvā tāmoṣadhiṃ vānarottamaḥ ,
lakṣmaṇasya dadau nastaḥ suṣeṇaḥ sumahādyutiḥ.
23. tataḥ saṃkṣodayitvā tām oṣadhim vānarottamaḥ
lakṣmaṇasya dadau nastaḥ suṣeṇaḥ sumahādyutiḥ
23. Then, having crushed that medicinal herb, Suṣeṇa, the excellent monkey, radiating great splendor, administered it to Lakṣmaṇa through his nose.
सशल्यः स समाघ्राय लक्ष्मणः परवीरहा ।
विशल्यो विरुजः शीघ्रमुदतिष्ठन्महीतलात् ॥२४॥
24. saśalyaḥ sa samāghrāya lakṣmaṇaḥ paravīrahā ,
viśalyo virujaḥ śīghramudatiṣṭhanmahītalāt.
24. saśalyaḥ sa samāghrāya lakṣmaṇaḥ paravīrahā
viśalyaḥ virujaḥ śīghram udatiṣṭhat mahītalāt
24. saśalyaḥ sa paravīrahā lakṣmaṇaḥ samāghrāya
viśalyaḥ virujaḥ śīghram mahītalāt udatiṣṭhat
24. Having perceived (the medicinal herb's effect), Lakṣmaṇa, the slayer of enemy heroes, who had been struck by a dart, quickly rose from the ground, free from darts and pain.
समुत्थितं ते हरयो भूतलात् प्रेक्ष्य लक्ष्मणम् ।
साधु साध्विति सुप्रीताः सुषेणं प्रत्यपूजयन् ॥२५॥
25. samutthitaṃ te harayo bhūtalāt prekṣya lakṣmaṇam ,
sādhu sādhviti suprītāḥ suṣeṇaṃ pratyapūjayan.
25. samutthitam te harayaḥ bhūtalāt prekṣya lakṣmaṇam
sādhu sādhu iti suprītāḥ suṣeṇam prati apūjayan
25. te harayaḥ bhūtalāt samutthitam lakṣmaṇam prekṣya
sādhu sādhu iti suprītāḥ suṣeṇam prati apūjayan
25. When those monkeys saw Lakṣmaṇa risen from the ground, they were highly pleased and honored Suṣeṇa, exclaiming, "Excellent! Excellent!"
एह्येहीत्यब्रवीद् रामो लक्ष्मणं परवीरहा ।
सस्वजे स्नेहगाढं च बाष्पपर्याकुलेक्षणः ॥२६॥
26. ehyehītyabravīd rāmo lakṣmaṇaṃ paravīrahā ,
sasvaje snehagāḍhaṃ ca bāṣpaparyākulekṣaṇaḥ.
26. ehi ehi iti abravīt rāmaḥ lakṣmaṇam paravīrahā
sasvaje snehagāḍham ca bāṣpaparyākulekṣaṇaḥ
26. paravīrahā rāmaḥ bāṣpaparyākulekṣaṇaḥ ehi ehi
iti lakṣmaṇam abravīt ca snehagāḍham sasvaje
26. Rāma, the slayer of enemy heroes, exclaimed to Lakṣmaṇa, "Come, come!", and with eyes filled with tears, embraced him tightly with great affection.
अब्रवीच्च परिष्वज्य सौमित्रिं राघवस्तदा ।
दिष्ट्या त्वां वीर पश्यामि मरणात् पुनरागतम् ॥२७॥
27. abravīcca pariṣvajya saumitriṃ rāghavastadā ,
diṣṭyā tvāṃ vīra paśyāmi maraṇāt punarāgatam.
27. abravīt ca pariṣvajya saumitrim rāghavaḥ tadā
diṣṭyā tvām vīra paśyāmi maraṇāt punaḥ āgatam
27. tadā rāghavaḥ saumitrim pariṣvajya ca abravīt
diṣṭyā vīra tvām maraṇāt punaḥ āgatam paśyāmi
27. And then Rāghava, having embraced Saumitri, said, "By great fortune, O hero, I see you returned from death."
न हि मे जीवितेनार्थः सीतया च जयेन वा ।
को हि मे जीवितेनार्थस्त्वयि पञ्चत्वमागते ॥२८॥
28. na hi me jīvitenārthaḥ sītayā ca jayena vā ,
ko hi me jīvitenārthastvayi pañcatvamāgate.
28. na hi me jīvitena arthaḥ sītayā ca jayena vā
kaḥ hi me jīvitena arthaḥ tvayi pañcatvam āgate
28. me jīvitena arthaḥ na hi.
sītayā ca jayena vā (arthaḥ na).
tvayi pañcatvam āgate kaḥ hi me jīvitena arthaḥ
28. Indeed, I have no purpose in life, nor with Sītā, nor with victory. What purpose do I have in life when you have met your end?
इत्येवं वदतस्तस्य राघवस्य महात्मनः ।
खिन्नः शिथिलया वाचा लक्ष्मणो वाक्यमब्रवीत् ॥२९॥
29. ityevaṃ vadatastasya rāghavasya mahātmanaḥ ,
khinnaḥ śithilayā vācā lakṣmaṇo vākyamabravīt.
29. iti evam vadataḥ tasya rāghavasya mahā-ātmanaḥ
khinnaḥ śithilayā vācā lakṣmaṇaḥ vākyam abravīt
29. tasya mahā-ātmanaḥ rāghavasya iti evam vadataḥ
khinnaḥ lakṣmaṇaḥ śithilayā vācā vākyam abravīt
29. As that great-souled Rāghava (Rāma) was speaking thus, Lakṣmaṇa, distressed, spoke these words with a trembling voice.
तां प्रतिज्ञां प्रतिज्ञाय पुरा सत्यपराक्रम ।
लघुः कश्चिदिवासत्त्वो नैवं वक्तुमिहार्हसि ॥३०॥
30. tāṃ pratijñāṃ pratijñāya purā satyaparākrama ,
laghuḥ kaścidivāsattvo naivaṃ vaktumihārhasi.
30. tām pratijñām pratijñāya purā satya-parākrama laghuḥ
kaścit iva asattvaḥ na evam vaktum iha arhasi
30. satya-parākrama purā tām pratijñām pratijñāya laghuḥ
kaścit iva asattvaḥ iha evam vaktum na arhasi
30. Having previously made that vow, O you of true valor, you ought not to speak like some insignificant, spiritless person here.
न प्रतिज्ञां हि कुर्वन्ति वितथां साधवो ऽनघ ।
लक्षणं हि महत्त्वस्य प्रतिज्ञापरिपालनम् ॥३१॥
31. na pratijñāṃ hi kurvanti vitathāṃ sādhavo'nagha ,
lakṣaṇaṃ hi mahattvasya pratijñāparipālanam.
31. na pratijñām hi kurvanti vitathām sādhavaḥ anagha
lakṣaṇam hi mahattvasya pratijñā-paripālanam
31. anagha sādhavaḥ hi vitathām pratijñām na kurvanti.
hi mahattvasya lakṣaṇam pratijñā-paripālanam
31. Indeed, good men do not make a false vow, O sinless one. For the mark of greatness is the fulfillment of one's vow.
नैराश्यमुपगन्तुं ते तदलं मत्कृते ऽनघ ।
वधेन रावणस्याद्य प्रतिज्ञामनुपालय ॥३२॥
32. nairāśyamupagantuṃ te tadalaṃ matkṛte'nagha ,
vadhena rāvaṇasyādya pratijñāmanupālaya.
32. nairāśyam upagantum te tat alam matkṛte anagha
vadhena rāvaṇasya adya pratijñām anupālaya
32. anagha te matkṛte nairāśyam upagantum tat alam
adya rāvaṇasya vadhena pratijñām anupālaya
32. O sinless one (anagha), there is no need for you to fall into despair on my account. Fulfill your vow by killing Rāvaṇa today.
न जीवन्यास्यते शत्रुस्तव बाणपथं गतः ।
नर्दतस्तीक्ष्णदंष्ट्रस्य सिंहस्येव महागजः ॥३३॥
33. na jīvanyāsyate śatrustava bāṇapathaṃ gataḥ ,
nardatastīkṣṇadaṃṣṭrasya siṃhasyeva mahāgajaḥ.
33. na jīvan yāsyate śatruḥ tava bāṇapatham gataḥ
nardataḥ tīkṣṇadaṃṣṭrasya siṃhasya iva mahāgajaḥ
33. tava bāṇapatham gataḥ śatruḥ jīvan na yāsyate
nardataḥ tīkṣṇadaṃṣṭrasya siṃhasya iva mahāgajaḥ
33. Your enemy, once he has come within the range of your arrows, will not escape alive, just as a great elephant cannot escape alive from a roaring, sharp-fanged lion.
अहं तु वधमिच्छामि शीघ्रमस्य दुरात्मनः ।
यावदस्तं न यात्येष कृतकर्मा दिवाकरः ॥३४॥
34. ahaṃ tu vadhamicchāmi śīghramasya durātmanaḥ ,
yāvadastaṃ na yātyeṣa kṛtakarmā divākaraḥ.
34. aham tu vadham icchāmi śīghram asya durātmanaḥ
yāvat astam na yāti eṣaḥ kṛtakarmā divākaraḥ
34. aham tu asya durātmanaḥ vadham śīghram icchāmi
yāvat eṣaḥ kṛtakarmā divākaraḥ astam na yāti
34. I indeed desire the swift slaying of this wicked one before the sun, having completed its daily task (karma), sets.
