स उवाच महाप्रज्ञमभिगम्य प्लवंगमः ।
रामं वचनमर्थज्ञो वरं सर्वधनुष्मताम् ॥१॥
1. sa uvāca mahāprajñamabhigamya plavaṃgamaḥ ,
rāmaṃ vacanamarthajño varaṃ sarvadhanuṣmatām.

1. That monkey, knowing what was proper, approached Rama, the greatly wise one and the foremost among all bow-wielders, and spoke to him.
यन्निमित्तो ऽयमारम्भः कर्मणां च फलोदयः ।
तां देवीं शोकसंतप्तां मैथिलीं द्रष्टुमर्हसि ॥२॥
2. yannimitto'yamārambhaḥ karmaṇāṃ ca phalodayaḥ ,
tāṃ devīṃ śokasaṃtaptāṃ maithilīṃ draṣṭumarhasi.
2. yat nimittaḥ ayam ārambhaḥ karmaṇām ca phalodayaḥ
tām devīm śokasaṃtaptām maithilīm draṣṭum arhasi

2. You should see that divine Maithili, who is distressed by sorrow, and for whose sake this undertaking and the fruition of actions (karma) are.
सा हि शोकसमाविष्टा बाष्पपर्याकुलेक्षणा ।
मैथिली विजयं श्रुत्वा तव हर्षमुपागमत् ॥३॥
3. sā hi śokasamāviṣṭā bāṣpaparyākulekṣaṇā ,
maithilī vijayaṃ śrutvā tava harṣamupāgamat.

maithilī vijayam śrutvā tava harṣam upāgamat

3. Indeed, Maithili, though overwhelmed by sorrow and with eyes agitated by tears, felt great joy upon hearing of your victory.
पूर्वकात् प्रत्ययाच्चाहमुक्तो विश्वस्तया तया ।
भर्तारं द्रष्टुमिच्छामि कृतार्थं सहलक्ष्मणम् ॥४॥
4. pūrvakāt pratyayāccāhamukto viśvastayā tayā ,
bhartāraṃ draṣṭumicchāmi kṛtārthaṃ sahalakṣmaṇam.
4. pūrvakāt pratyayāt ca aham uktaḥ viśvastayā tayā |
bhartāram draṣṭum icchāmi kṛtārtham sahalakṣmaṇam

4. And I was confidently told by her, the trustworthy one, 'I wish to see my husband, who has achieved his purpose, along with Lakshmana.'
एवमुक्तो हनुमता रामो धर्मभृतां वरः ।
अगच्छत् सहसा ध्यानमासीद्बाष्पपरिप्लुतः ॥५॥
5. evamukto hanumatā rāmo dharmabhṛtāṃ varaḥ ,
agacchat sahasā dhyānamāsīdbāṣpapariplutaḥ.

| agacchat sahasā dhyānam āsīt bāṣpapariprutaḥ

5. Thus spoken to by Hanumān, Rāma, the best among the upholders of natural law (dharma), suddenly went into contemplation (dhyāna) and was overcome with tears.
दीर्घमुष्णं च निश्वस्य मेदिनीमवलोकयन् ।
उवाच मेघसंकाशं विभीषणमुपस्थितम् ॥६॥
6. dīrghamuṣṇaṃ ca niśvasya medinīmavalokayan ,
uvāca meghasaṃkāśaṃ vibhīṣaṇamupasthitam.

6. Sighing long and hot, and gazing at the earth, he spoke to Vibhīṣaṇa, who stood near him, resembling a cloud.
दिव्याङ्गरागां वैदेहीं दिव्याभरणभूषिताम् ।
इह सीतां शिरःस्नातामुपस्थापय माचिरम् ॥७॥
7. divyāṅgarāgāṃ vaidehīṃ divyābharaṇabhūṣitām ,
iha sītāṃ śiraḥsnātāmupasthāpaya māciram.
7. divya aṅgarāgām vaidehīm divya ābharaṇabhūṣitām
| iha sītām śiraḥsnātām upasthāpaya mā ciram
7. iha divyāṅgarāgām divyābharaṇabhūṣitām

7. Present Sītā, Vaidehī, here, having undergone the ritual head-bath, adorned with divine ornaments and divine anointments. Do not delay.
एवमुक्तस्तु रामेण त्वरमाणो विभीषणः ।
प्रविश्यान्तःपुरं सीतां स्त्रीभिः स्वाभिरचोदयत् ॥८॥
8. evamuktastu rāmeṇa tvaramāṇo vibhīṣaṇaḥ ,
praviśyāntaḥpuraṃ sītāṃ strībhiḥ svābhiracodayat.
8. evam uktaḥ tu rāmeṇa tvaramāṇaḥ vibhīṣaṇaḥ praviśya
antaḥpuram sītām strībhiḥ svābhiḥ acodayat

8. Having been addressed thus by Rāma, Vibhīṣaṇa, hurrying, entered the inner apartment and had Sītā urged by his own women.
दिव्याङ्गरागा वैदेही दिव्याभरणभूषिता ।
यानमारोह भद्रं ते भर्ता त्वां द्रष्टुमिच्छति ॥९॥
9. divyāṅgarāgā vaidehī divyābharaṇabhūṣitā ,
yānamāroha bhadraṃ te bhartā tvāṃ draṣṭumicchati.
9. divya-aṅgarāgā vaidehī divya-ābharaṇa-bhūṣitā
yānam āroha bhadram te bhartā tvām draṣṭum icchati
9. divya-aṅgarāgā divya-ābharaṇa-bhūṣitā vaidehī yānam

9. O Vaidehī, adorned with divine anointments and divine ornaments, please ascend the palanquin. May good fortune be yours; your husband desires to see you.
एवमुक्ता तु वैदेही प्रत्युवाच विभीषणम् ।
अस्नाता द्रष्टुमिच्छामि भर्तारं राक्षसाधिप ॥१०॥
10. evamuktā tu vaidehī pratyuvāca vibhīṣaṇam ,
asnātā draṣṭumicchāmi bhartāraṃ rākṣasādhipa.
10. evam uktā tu vaidehī pratyuvāca vibhīṣaṇam
asnātā draṣṭum icchāmi bhartāram rākṣasa-adhipa
10. evam uktā tu vaidehī vibhīṣaṇam pratyuvāca rākṣasa-adhipa,

10. But Vaidehī, thus addressed, replied to Vibhīṣaṇa: "O king of the rākṣasas, I wish to see my husband without having bathed."
तस्यास्तद्वचनं श्रुत्वा प्रत्युवाच विभीषणः ।
यथाह रामो भर्ता ते तत्तथा कर्तुमर्हसि ॥११॥
11. tasyāstadvacanaṃ śrutvā pratyuvāca vibhīṣaṇaḥ ,
yathāha rāmo bhartā te tattathā kartumarhasi.
11. tasyāḥ tat vacanam śrutvā pratyuvāca vibhīṣaṇaḥ
yathā āha rāmaḥ bhartā te tat tathā kartum arhasi
11. tasyāḥ tat vacanam śrutvā vibhīṣaṇaḥ pratyuvāca te bhartā rāmaḥ yathā āha,
tat tathā kartum arhasi
11. Having heard her words, Vibhīṣaṇa replied: "You ought to do that exactly as your husband Rāma has commanded."
तस्य तद्वचनं श्रुत्वा मैथिली भर्तृदेवता ।
भर्तृभक्तिव्रता साध्वी तथेति प्रत्यभाषत ॥१२॥
12. tasya tadvacanaṃ śrutvā maithilī bhartṛdevatā ,
bhartṛbhaktivratā sādhvī tatheti pratyabhāṣata.
12. tasya tat vacanam śrutvā maithilī bhartṛdevatā
bhartṛbhaktivratā sādhvī tathā iti prati abhāṣata
12. maithilī bhartṛdevatā bhartṛbhaktivratā sādhvī

12. Having heard his words, Maithili (Sita), who regarded her husband as a deity and whose sacred vow (vrata) was devotion (bhakti) to him, the virtuous woman, replied, "So be it."
ततः सीतां शिरःस्नातां युवतीभिरलंकृताम् ।
महार्हाभरणोपेतां महार्हाम्बरधारिणीम् ॥१३॥
13. tataḥ sītāṃ śiraḥsnātāṃ yuvatībhiralaṃkṛtām ,
mahārhābharaṇopetāṃ mahārhāmbaradhāriṇīm.
13. tataḥ sītām śiraḥsnātām yuvatībhiḥ alaṅkṛtām
mahā-arha ābharaṇa upetām mahā-arha ambara dhāriṇīm
13. tataḥ yuvatībhiḥ śiraḥsnātām alaṅkṛtām mahā-arha
ābharaṇa upetām mahā-arha ambara dhāriṇīm sītām
13. Then (he presented) Sita, who had ritually bathed her head, adorned by young women, splendidly bedecked with costly ornaments, and wearing precious garments.
आरोप्य शिबिकां दीप्तां परार्ध्याम्बरसंवृताम् ।
रक्षोभिर्बहुभिर्गुप्तामाजहार विभीषणः ॥१४॥
14. āropya śibikāṃ dīptāṃ parārdhyāmbarasaṃvṛtām ,
rakṣobhirbahubhirguptāmājahāra vibhīṣaṇaḥ.
14. āropya śibikām dīptām para-arghya ambara saṃvṛtām
rakṣobhiḥ bahubhiḥ guptām ājahāra vibhīṣaṇaḥ

14. Vibhishana brought her, having seated her on a splendid palanquin, which was covered with exceedingly precious cloths and guarded by many rākṣasas.
सो ऽभिगम्य महात्मानं ज्ञात्वाभिध्यानमास्थितम् ।
प्रणतश्च प्रहृष्टश्च प्राप्तां सीतां न्यवेदयत् ॥१५॥
15. so'bhigamya mahātmānaṃ jñātvābhidhyānamāsthitam ,
praṇataśca prahṛṣṭaśca prāptāṃ sītāṃ nyavedayat.
15. saḥ abhigamya mahātmānam jñātvā abhidhyānam āsthitam
praṇataḥ ca prahṛṣṭaḥ ca prāptām sītām nyavedayat
15. saḥ mahātmānam abhidhyānam āsthitam jñātvā abhigamya
praṇataḥ ca prahṛṣṭaḥ ca prāptām sītām nyavedayat
15. Having approached the great soul (mahātman) (Rama) and perceiving him to be absorbed in deep contemplation (dhyāna), he (Vibhishana) bowed down and, greatly pleased, announced the arrival of Sita.
तामागतामुपश्रुत्य रक्षोगृहचिरोषिताम् ।
हर्षो दैन्यं च रोषश्च त्रयं राघवमाविशत् ॥१६॥
16. tāmāgatāmupaśrutya rakṣogṛhaciroṣitām ,
harṣo dainyaṃ ca roṣaśca trayaṃ rāghavamāviśat.
16. tām āgatām upaśrutya rakṣogṛhaciroṣitām harṣaḥ
dainyam ca roṣaḥ ca trayam rāghavam āviśat
16. rakṣogṛhaciroṣitām tām āgatām upaśrutya,
rāghavam harṣaḥ dainyam ca roṣaḥ ca trayam āviśat
16. Upon hearing that she, who had long resided in the demon's house, had arrived, a trio of emotions - joy, distress, and anger - overcame Rāghava (Rāma).
ततः पार्श्वगतं दृष्ट्वा सविमर्शं विचारयन् ।
विभीषणमिदं वाक्यमहृष्टो राघवो ऽब्रवीत् ॥१७॥
17. tataḥ pārśvagataṃ dṛṣṭvā savimarśaṃ vicārayan ,
vibhīṣaṇamidaṃ vākyamahṛṣṭo rāghavo'bravīt.
17. tataḥ pārśvagatam dṛṣṭvā savimarśam vicārayan
vibhīṣaṇam idam vākyam ahṛṣṭaḥ rāghavaḥ abravīt
17. tataḥ pārśvagatam vibhīṣaṇam dṛṣṭvā,
savimarśam vicārayan,
ahṛṣṭaḥ rāghavaḥ idam vākyam abravīt
17. Then, seeing Vibhīṣaṇa who stood beside him, and deliberating thoughtfully, Rāghava (Rāma), unhappy, spoke these words.
राक्षसाधिपते सौम्य नित्यं मद्विजये रत ।
वैदेही संनिकर्षं मे शीघ्रं समुपगच्छतु ॥१८॥
18. rākṣasādhipate saumya nityaṃ madvijaye rata ,
vaidehī saṃnikarṣaṃ me śīghraṃ samupagacchatu.
18. rākṣasādhipate saumya nityam mat vijaye rata
vaidehī saṃnikarṣam me śīghram samupagacchatu
18. saumya rākṣasādhipate,
nityam mat vijaye rata,
vaidehī me saṃnikarṣam śīghram samupagacchatu
18. O gentle lord of rākṣasas, who is always devoted to my victory, let Vaidehī (Sītā) quickly come into my presence.
स तद्वचनमाज्ञाय राघवस्य विभीषणः ।
तूर्णमुत्सारणे यत्नं कारयामास सर्वतः ॥१९॥
19. sa tadvacanamājñāya rāghavasya vibhīṣaṇaḥ ,
tūrṇamutsāraṇe yatnaṃ kārayāmāsa sarvataḥ.
19. sa tat vacanam ājñāya rāghavasya vibhīṣaṇaḥ
tūrṇam utsāraṇe yatnam kārayāmāsa sarvataḥ
19. sa vibhīṣaṇaḥ rāghavasya tat vacanam ājñāya,
tūrṇam sarvataḥ utsāraṇe yatnam kārayāmāsa
19. Having understood that command of Rāghava (Rāma), Vibhīṣaṇa quickly caused efforts to be made everywhere for the clearing (of the path for Sītā).
कञ्चुकोष्णीषिणस्तत्र वेत्रझर्झरपाणयः ।
उत्सारयन्तः पुरुषाः समन्तात् परिचक्रमुः ॥२०॥
20. kañcukoṣṇīṣiṇastatra vetrajharjharapāṇayaḥ ,
utsārayantaḥ puruṣāḥ samantāt paricakramuḥ.
20. kañcukauṣṇīṣiṇaḥ tatra vetrajharjharapāṇayaḥ
utsārayantaḥ puruṣāḥ samantāt paricakramuḥ

20. Men wearing tunics and turbans, carrying canes and staves in their hands, moved all around, pushing people aside.
ऋक्षाणां वानराणां च राक्षसानां च सर्वतः ।
वृन्दान्युत्सार्यमाणानि दूरमुत्ससृजुस्ततः ॥२१॥
21. ṛkṣāṇāṃ vānarāṇāṃ ca rākṣasānāṃ ca sarvataḥ ,
vṛndānyutsāryamāṇāni dūramutsasṛjustataḥ.
21. ṛkṣāṇām vānarāṇām ca rākṣasānām ca sarvataḥ
vṛndāni utsāryamāṇāni dūram utsasṛjuḥ tataḥ
21. ṛkṣāṇām vānarāṇām ca rākṣasānām ca sarvataḥ
utsāryamāṇāni vṛndāni tataḥ dūram utsasṛjuḥ
21. The groups of bears, monkeys, and demons, who were being pushed aside from all directions, were then driven far away.
तेषामुत्सार्यमाणानां सर्वेषां ध्वनिरुत्थितः ।
वायुनोद्वर्तमानस्य सागरस्येव निस्वनः ॥२२॥
22. teṣāmutsāryamāṇānāṃ sarveṣāṃ dhvanirutthitaḥ ,
vāyunodvartamānasya sāgarasyeva nisvanaḥ.
22. teṣām utsāryamāṇānām sarveṣām dhvaniḥ utthitaḥ
vāyunā udvartamānasya sāgarasya iva nisvanaḥ
22. utsāryamāṇānām teṣām sarveṣām dhvaniḥ utthitaḥ

22. A clamor arose from all of them as they were being driven away, resembling the roar of an ocean churned by the wind.
उत्सार्यमाणांस्तान्दृष्ट्वा समन्ताज्जातसंभ्रमान् ।
दाक्षिण्यात्तदमर्षाच्च वारयामास राघवः ॥२३॥
23. utsāryamāṇāṃstāndṛṣṭvā samantājjātasaṃbhramān ,
dākṣiṇyāttadamarṣācca vārayāmāsa rāghavaḥ.
23. utsāryamāṇān tān dṛṣṭvā samantāt jātasaṁbhramān
dākṣiṇyāt tat amarṣāt ca vārayāmāsa rāghavaḥ
23. rāghavaḥ samantāt utsāryamāṇān tān jātasaṁbhramān
dṛṣṭvā dākṣiṇyāt ca tat amarṣāt ca vārayāmāsa
23. Seeing them being driven away from all directions and becoming bewildered, Rāghava stopped the men, both out of a sense of propriety and from indignation at such treatment.
संरब्धश्चाब्रवीद् रामश्चक्षुषा प्रदहन्निव ।
विभीषणं महाप्राज्ञं सोपालम्भमिदं वचः ॥२४॥
24. saṃrabdhaścābravīd rāmaścakṣuṣā pradahanniva ,
vibhīṣaṇaṃ mahāprājñaṃ sopālambhamidaṃ vacaḥ.
24. saṃrabdhaḥ ca abravīt rāmaḥ cakṣuṣā pradahan iva
vibhīṣaṇam mahāprājñam sopālambham idam vacaḥ
24. rāmaḥ saṃrabdhaḥ ca cakṣuṣā pradahan iva mahāprājñam
vibhīṣaṇam sopālambham idam vacaḥ abravīt
24. Rama, enraged and as if burning him with his gaze, spoke these reproachful words to the greatly wise Vibhishana.
किमर्थं मामनादृत्य कृश्यते ऽयं त्वया जनः ।
निवर्तयैनमुद्योगं जनो ऽयं स्वजनो मम ॥२५॥
25. kimarthaṃ māmanādṛtya kṛśyate'yaṃ tvayā janaḥ ,
nivartayainamudyogaṃ jano'yaṃ svajano mama.
25. kim artham mām anādṛtya kṛśyate ayam tvayā janaḥ
nivartaya enam udyogam janaḥ ayam svajanaḥ mama
25. tvayā mām anādṛtya ayam janaḥ kim artham kṛśyate
enam udyogam nivartaya ayam janaḥ mama svajanaḥ
25. Why is this person being troubled by you while you disregard me? Stop this activity; these people are my kinsfolk (svajana).
न गृहाणि न वस्त्राणि न प्राकारास्तिरस्क्रियाः ।
नेदृशा राजसत्कारा वृत्तमावरणं स्त्रियः ॥२६॥
26. na gṛhāṇi na vastrāṇi na prākārāstiraskriyāḥ ,
nedṛśā rājasatkārā vṛttamāvaraṇaṃ striyaḥ.
26. na gṛhāṇi na vastrāṇi na prākārāḥ tiraskriyāḥ
na īdṛśāḥ rājasatkārāḥ vṛttam āvaraṇam striyaḥ
26. striyaḥ gṛhāṇi na āvaraṇam vastrāṇi
na prākārāḥ na tiraskriyāḥ na
īdṛśāḥ rājasatkārāḥ (ca api) na
(āvaraṇam) vṛttam āvaraṇam (asti)
26. Neither houses, nor clothes, nor walls, nor screens, nor even such royal honors are the true covering for women; rather, their conduct (vṛttam) is their protection.
व्यसनेषु न कृच्छ्रेषु न युद्धे न स्वयंवरे ।
न क्रतौ नो विवाहे च दर्शनं दुष्यते स्त्रियः ॥२७॥
27. vyasaneṣu na kṛcchreṣu na yuddhe na svayaṃvare ,
na kratau no vivāhe ca darśanaṃ duṣyate striyaḥ.
27. vyasaneṣu na kṛcchreṣu na yuddhe na svayaṃvare na
kratau na u vivāhe ca darśanam duṣyate striyaḥ
27. striyaḥ darśanam vyasaneṣu na kṛcchreṣu na yuddhe
na svayaṃvare na kratau na u vivāhe ca na duṣyate
27. The sight (darśanam) of women (striyaḥ) is not improper in times of calamity, difficulty, battle, a self-choice marriage (svayaṃvara), a (Vedic) ritual (kratu), or marriage.
सैषा युद्धगता चैव कृच्छ्रे महति च स्थिता ।
दर्शने ऽस्या न दोषः स्यान्मत्समीपे विशेषतः ॥२८॥
28. saiṣā yuddhagatā caiva kṛcchre mahati ca sthitā ,
darśane'syā na doṣaḥ syānmatsamīpe viśeṣataḥ.
28. sā eṣā yuddhagatā ca eva kṛcchre mahati ca sthitā
darśane asyāḥ na doṣaḥ syāt mat-samīpe viśeṣataḥ
28. eṣā sā yuddhagatā ca eva mahati kṛcchre ca sthitā
asyāḥ darśane doṣaḥ na syāt mat-samīpe viśeṣataḥ
28. There will be no fault in seeing her - this very one who has been through battle and is in great distress - especially in my presence.
तदानय समीपं मे शीघ्रमेनां विभीषण ।
सीता पश्यतु मामेषा सुहृद्गणवृतं स्थितम् ॥२९॥
29. tadānaya samīpaṃ me śīghramenāṃ vibhīṣaṇa ,
sītā paśyatu māmeṣā suhṛdgaṇavṛtaṃ sthitam.
29. tat ānaya samīpam me śīghram enām vibhīṣaṇa
sītā paśyatu mām eṣā suhṛt-gaṇa-vṛtam sthitam
29. vibhīṣaṇa tat enām śīghram me samīpam ānaya
eṣā sītā suhṛt-gaṇa-vṛtam sthitam mām paśyatu
29. Therefore, Vibhishana, quickly bring her near me. Let this Sita behold me, standing here surrounded by my assembly of friends.
एवमुक्तस्तु रामेण सविमर्शो विभीषणः ।
रामस्योपानयत् सीतां संनिकर्षं विनीतवत् ॥३०॥
30. evamuktastu rāmeṇa savimarśo vibhīṣaṇaḥ ,
rāmasyopānayat sītāṃ saṃnikarṣaṃ vinītavat.
30. evam uktaḥ tu rāmeṇa savimarśaḥ vibhīṣaṇaḥ
rāmasya upānayat sītām saṃnikarṣam vinītavat

vinītavat sītām rāmasya saṃnikarṣam upānayat
30. Thus addressed by Rama, Vibhishana, after a moment of reflection, humbly brought Sita into Rama's presence.
ततो लक्ष्मणसुग्रीवौ हनूमांश्च प्लवंगमः ।
निशम्य वाक्यं रामस्य बभूवुर्व्यथिता भृशम् ॥३१॥
31. tato lakṣmaṇasugrīvau hanūmāṃśca plavaṃgamaḥ ,
niśamya vākyaṃ rāmasya babhūvurvyathitā bhṛśam.
31. tataḥ lakṣmaṇa-sugrīvau hanūmān ca plavaṅgamaḥ
niśamya vākyam rāmasya babhūvuḥ vyathitāḥ bhṛśam
31. tataḥ lakṣmaṇa-sugrīvau ca hanūmān plavaṅgamaḥ
rāmasya vākyam niśamya bhṛśam vyathitāḥ babhūvuḥ
31. Then, upon hearing Rama's words, Lakshmana and Sugriva, along with Hanuman the monkey chief, became extremely distressed.
कलत्रनिरपेक्षैश्च इङ्गितैरस्य दारुणैः ।
अप्रीतमिव सीतायां तर्कयन्ति स्म राघवम् ॥३२॥
32. kalatranirapekṣaiśca iṅgitairasya dāruṇaiḥ ,
aprītamiva sītāyāṃ tarkayanti sma rāghavam.
32. kalatranirapekṣaiḥ ca iṅgitaiḥ asya dāruṇaiḥ
aprītam iva sītāyām tarkayanti sma rāghavam
32. And by his cruel gestures, which betrayed a disregard for his wife, they suspected that Rāghava (Rāma) was displeased with Sītā.
लज्जया त्ववलीयन्ती स्वेषु गात्रेषु मैथिली ।
विभीषणेनानुगता भर्तारं साभ्यवर्तत ॥३३॥
33. lajjayā tvavalīyantī sveṣu gātreṣu maithilī ,
vibhīṣaṇenānugatā bhartāraṃ sābhyavartata.
33. lajjayā tu avalīyantī sveṣu gātreṣu maithilī
vibhīṣaṇena anugatā bhartāram sam abhyavartata
33. However, Maithilī (Sītā), shrinking back into her own body from shame, and accompanied by Vibhīṣaṇa, approached her husband.
सा वस्त्रसंरुद्धमुखी लज्जया जनसंसदि ।
रुरोदासाद्य भर्तारमार्यपुत्रेति भाषिणी ॥३४॥
34. sā vastrasaṃruddhamukhī lajjayā janasaṃsadi ,
rurodāsādya bhartāramāryaputreti bhāṣiṇī.
34. sā vastrasaṃruddhamukhī lajjayā janasaṃsadi
ruroda āsādya bhartāram āryaputra iti bhāṣiṇī
34. With her face covered by her garment out of shame in the public assembly, she wept upon reaching her husband, uttering the words, 'O noble husband!'
विस्मयाच्च प्रहर्षाच्च स्नेहाच्च परिदेवता ।
उदैक्षत मुखं भर्तुः सौम्यं सौम्यतरानना ॥३५॥
35. vismayācca praharṣācca snehācca paridevatā ,
udaikṣata mukhaṃ bhartuḥ saumyaṃ saumyatarānanā.
35. vismayāt ca praharṣāt ca snehāt ca paridevatā
udaikṣata mukham bhartuḥ saumyam saumyatarānanā
35. And with a face even more serene herself, she, who had been lamenting, gazed at her husband's gentle face, driven by wonder, joy, and affection.
अथ समपनुदन्मनःक्लमं सा सुचिरमदृष्टमुदीक्ष्य वै प्रियस्य ।
वदनमुदितपूर्णचन्द्रकान्तं विमलशशाङ्कनिभानना तदासीत् ॥३६॥
36. atha samapanudanmanaḥklamaṃ sā suciramadṛṣṭamudīkṣya vai priyasya ,
vadanamuditapūrṇacandrakāntaṃ vimalaśaśāṅkanibhānanā tadāsīt.
36. atha samapanudan manaḥklamam sā
suciram adṛṣṭam udīkṣya vai priyasya
vadanam uditapūrṇacandrakāntam
vimalaśaśāṅkanibhānanā tadā āsīt
36. atha sā vimalaśaśāṅkanibhānanā
priyasya vadanam suciram adṛṣṭam
uditapūrṇacandrakāntam udīkṣya vai
manaḥklamam samapanudan tadā āsīt
36. Then, upon seeing her beloved's face - which she had not seen for a very long time, and which was charming like the risen full moon - she, whose own face resembled a pure moon, dispelled the weariness of her mind and became radiant at that moment.
