तथैव क्रोशतस्तस्य भरतस्य महात्मनः ।

1. Just so, while that great-souled (mahātman) Bharata was crying, Kausalya, having perceived his cry, spoke this to Sumitra.
आगतः क्रूरकार्यायाः कैकेय्या भरतः सुतः ।
तमहं द्रष्टुमिच्छामि भरतं दीर्घदर्शिनम् ॥२॥
2. āgataḥ krūrakāryāyāḥ kaikeyyā bharataḥ sutaḥ ,
tamahaṃ draṣṭumicchāmi bharataṃ dīrghadarśinam.

2. Bharata, the son of Kaikeyī who is known for her cruel deeds, has arrived. I wish to see that far-sighted Bharata.
एवमुक्त्वा सुमित्रां सा विवर्णा मलिनाम्बरा ।
प्रतस्थे भरतो यत्र वेपमाना विचेतना ॥३॥
3. evamuktvā sumitrāṃ sā vivarṇā malināmbarā ,
pratasthe bharato yatra vepamānā vicetanā.

3. Having spoken thus to Sumitrā, she, pale and clothed in soiled garments, trembling and bewildered, set out for the place where Bharata was.
स तु रामानुजश्चापि शत्रुघ्नसहितस्तदा ।
प्रतस्थे भरतो यत्र कौसल्याया निवेशनम् ॥४॥
4. sa tu rāmānujaścāpi śatrughnasahitastadā ,
pratasthe bharato yatra kausalyāyā niveśanam.

4. But then, Bharata, Rāma's younger brother, also accompanied by Shatrughna, set out for Kaushalya's abode.
ततः शत्रुघ्नभरतौ कौसल्यां प्रेक्ष्य दुःखितौ ।
पर्यष्वजेतां दुःखार्तां पतितां नष्टचेतनाम् ॥५॥
5. tataḥ śatrughnabharatau kausalyāṃ prekṣya duḥkhitau ,
paryaṣvajetāṃ duḥkhārtāṃ patitāṃ naṣṭacetanām.

5. Then, Shatrughna and Bharata, themselves distressed, upon seeing Kaushalya, who was afflicted by sorrow, fallen, and unconscious, embraced her.
भरतं प्रत्युवाचेदं कौसल्या भृशदुःखिता ।
इदं ते राज्यकामस्य राज्यं प्राप्तमकण्टकम् ।
संप्राप्तं बत कैकेय्या शीघ्रं क्रूरेण कर्मणा ॥६॥
6. bharataṃ pratyuvācedaṃ kausalyā bhṛśaduḥkhitā ,
idaṃ te rājyakāmasya rājyaṃ prāptamakaṇṭakam ,
saṃprāptaṃ bata kaikeyyā śīghraṃ krūreṇa karmaṇā.

6. Deeply grieved, Kausalya replied to Bharata: "This kingdom, which you desired, is now yours, obtained without opposition. Alas! Kaikeyi has quickly acquired it through a cruel deed (karma)."
प्रस्थाप्य चीरवसनं पुत्रं मे वनवासिनम् ।
कैकेयी कं गुणं तत्र पश्यति क्रूरदर्शिनी ॥७॥
7. prasthāpya cīravasanaṃ putraṃ me vanavāsinam ,
kaikeyī kaṃ guṇaṃ tatra paśyati krūradarśinī.

7. Having sent my son, clad in bark garments, into forest exile, what advantage does the cruel-minded Kaikeyi perceive in that (deed)?
क्षिप्रं मामपि कैकेयी प्रस्थापयितुमर्हति ।
हिरण्यनाभो यत्रास्ते सुतो मे सुमहायशाः ॥८॥
8. kṣipraṃ māmapi kaikeyī prasthāpayitumarhati ,
hiraṇyanābho yatrāste suto me sumahāyaśāḥ.
8. kṣipram mām api kaikeyī prasthāpayitum arhati
hiraṇyanābhaḥ yatra āste sutaḥ me sumahāyaśāḥ
8. kaikeyī kṣipram mām api prasthāpayitum arhati

8. Kaikeyi should quickly send even me away to where my exceedingly glorious son, Hiraṇyanābha, dwells.
अथ वा स्वयमेवाहं सुमित्रानुचरा सुखम् ।
अग्निहोत्रं पुरस्कृत्य प्रस्थास्ये यत्र राघवः ॥९॥
9. atha vā svayamevāhaṃ sumitrānucarā sukham ,
agnihotraṃ puraskṛtya prasthāsye yatra rāghavaḥ.
9. atha vā svayam eva aham sumitrānucarā sukham
agnihotram puraskṛtya prasthāsye yatra rāghavaḥ

9. Or else, I myself, accompanied by Sumitra, will happily depart, making the Agnihotra (ritual) my foremost guide, to wherever Rāghava (Rama) is.
कामं वा स्वयमेवाद्य तत्र मां नेतुमर्हसि ।
यत्रासौ पुरुषव्याघ्रस्तप्यते मे तपः सुतः ॥१०॥
10. kāmaṃ vā svayamevādya tatra māṃ netumarhasi ,
yatrāsau puruṣavyāghrastapyate me tapaḥ sutaḥ.
10. kāmam vā svayam eva adya tatra mām netum arhasi
yatra asau puruṣavyāghraḥ tapyate me tapaḥ sutaḥ
10. adya kāmam vā svayam eva mām tatra netum arhasi,
yatra asau puruṣavyāghraḥ me sutaḥ tapaḥ tapyate.
10. Or indeed, you yourself should lead me there today, to the place where my son, that tiger among men, is performing severe austerities (tapas).
इदं हि तव विस्तीर्णं धनधान्यसमाचितम् ।
हस्त्यश्वरथसंपूर्णं राज्यं निर्यातितं तया ॥११॥
11. idaṃ hi tava vistīrṇaṃ dhanadhānyasamācitam ,
hastyaśvarathasaṃpūrṇaṃ rājyaṃ niryātitaṃ tayā.
11. idam hi tava vistīrṇam dhanadhānyasamācitam
hastyaśvarathasaṃpūrṇam rājyam niryātitam tayā
11. hi idam tava vistīrṇam dhanadhānyasamācitam hastyaśvarathasaṃpūrṇam rājyam tayā निर्यातितम्.
11. Indeed, this vast kingdom of yours, brimming with wealth and grain, and fully equipped with elephants, horses, and chariots, has been handed over by her.
एवं विलपमानां तां भरतः प्राञ्जलिस्तदा ।
कौसल्यां प्रत्युवाचेदं शोकैर्बहुभिरावृताम् ॥१२॥
12. evaṃ vilapamānāṃ tāṃ bharataḥ prāñjalistadā ,
kausalyāṃ pratyuvācedaṃ śokairbahubhirāvṛtām.
12. evam vilapamānām tām bharataḥ prāñjaliḥ tadā
kausalyām prati uvāca idam śokaiḥ bahubhiḥ āvṛtām
12. tadā prāñjaliḥ bharataḥ evam vilapamānām bahubhiḥ śokaiḥ āvṛtām tām kausalyām idam prati uvāca.
12. Then, Bharata, with folded hands, spoke this to Kausalya, who was thus lamenting and overwhelmed by many sorrows.
आर्ये कस्मादजानन्तं गर्हसे मामकिल्बिषम् ।
विपुलां च मम प्रीतिं स्थिरां जानासि राघवे ॥१३॥
13. ārye kasmādajānantaṃ garhase māmakilbiṣam ,
vipulāṃ ca mama prītiṃ sthirāṃ jānāsi rāghave.
13. ārye kasmāt ajānantam garhase mām akilbiṣam
vipulām ca mama prītim sthirām jānāsi rāghave
13. ārye,
kasmāt ajānantam akilbiṣam mām garhase? ca mama vipulām sthirām prītim rāghave jānāsi.
13. O noble lady, why do you blame me, who am innocent and unaware (of these events)? You also know my immense and unwavering affection for Rama (Rāghava).
कृता शास्त्रानुगा बुद्धिर्मा भूत्तस्य कदा चन ।
सत्यसंधः सतां श्रेष्ठो यस्यार्यो ऽनुमते गतः ॥१४॥
14. kṛtā śāstrānugā buddhirmā bhūttasya kadā cana ,
satyasaṃdhaḥ satāṃ śreṣṭho yasyāryo'numate gataḥ.
14. kṛtā śāstrānugā buddhiḥ mā bhūt tasya kadā cana
satyasaṃdhaḥ satām śreṣṭhaḥ yasya āryaḥ anumate gataḥ
14. yasya āryaḥ anumate gataḥ,
tasya kṛtā śāstrānugā buddhiḥ satyasaṃdhaḥ satām śreṣṭhaḥ kadā cana mā bhūt
14. May an intellect (buddhi) that is in accordance with the sacred texts (śāstra) never be his at any time. And may that person, by whose consent the noble one (ārya) departed, never be truthful (satyasaṃdha) or the best among the virtuous.
प्रैष्यं पापीयसां यातु सूर्यं च प्रति मेहतु ।
हन्तु पादेन गां सुप्तां यस्यार्यो ऽनुमते गतः ॥१५॥
15. praiṣyaṃ pāpīyasāṃ yātu sūryaṃ ca prati mehatu ,
hantu pādena gāṃ suptāṃ yasyāryo'numate gataḥ.
15. praīṣyam pāpīyasām yātu sūryam ca prati mehatu
hantu pādena gām suptām yasya āryaḥ anumate gataḥ
15. yasya āryaḥ anumate gataḥ,
praīṣyam pāpīyasām yātu,
sūryam ca prati mehatu,
pādena gām suptām hantu
15. May he attain the servitude of the most sinful. And may he urinate facing the sun. May he strike a sleeping cow with his foot, the one by whose consent the noble one (ārya) departed.
कारयित्वा महत् कर्म भर्ता भृत्यमनर्थकम् ।
अधर्मो यो ऽस्य सो ऽस्यास्तु यस्यार्यो ऽनुमते गतः ॥१६॥
16. kārayitvā mahat karma bhartā bhṛtyamanarthakam ,
adharmo yo'sya so'syāstu yasyāryo'numate gataḥ.
16. kārayitvā mahat karma bhartā bhṛtyam anarthakam adharmaḥ
yaḥ asya saḥ asya astu yasya āryaḥ anumate gataḥ
16. yasya āryaḥ anumate gataḥ,
yaḥ adharmaḥ asya,
saḥ asya astu,
bhartā bhṛtyam mahat anarthakam karma kārayitvā
16. May the unrighteousness (adharma) that belongs to a master (bhartā) who, having caused his servant (bhṛtya) to perform a great, useless task (karma), befall him, the one by whose consent the noble one (ārya) departed.
परिपालयमानस्य राज्ञो भूतानि पुत्रवत् ।
ततस्तु द्रुह्यतां पापं यस्यार्यो ऽनुमते गतः ॥१७॥
17. paripālayamānasya rājño bhūtāni putravat ,
tatastu druhyatāṃ pāpaṃ yasyāryo'numate gataḥ.
17. paripālayamānasya rājñaḥ bhūtāni putravat tatas
tu druhyatām pāpam yasya āryaḥ anumate gataḥ
17. yasya āryaḥ anumate gataḥ,
tatas tu druhyatām pāpam rājñaḥ paripālayamānasya bhūtāni putravat
17. May the sin (pāpa) incurred by those who bear malice against a king (rājñaḥ) who protects his subjects (bhūtāni) as if they were his own sons, then fall upon him, the one by whose consent the noble one (ārya) departed.
बलिषड्भागमुद्धृत्य नृपस्यारक्षतः प्रजाः ।
अधर्मो यो ऽस्य सो ऽस्यास्तु यस्यार्यो ऽनुमते गतः ॥१८॥
18. baliṣaḍbhāgamuddhṛtya nṛpasyārakṣataḥ prajāḥ ,
adharmo yo'sya so'syāstu yasyāryo'numate gataḥ.
18. baliṣaḍbhāgam uddhṛtya nṛpasya ārakṣataḥ prajāḥ adharmaḥ
yaḥ asya saḥ asya astu yasya āryaḥ anumate gataḥ
18. nṛpasya yaḥ baliṣaḍbhāgam uddhṛtya prajāḥ ārakṣataḥ
adharmaḥ saḥ asya astu yasya āryaḥ anumate gataḥ
18. The king who levies a sixth part as tax but fails to protect his subjects incurs a sin (adharma). Let that sin (adharma) fall upon the one by whose consent a noble person has departed.
संश्रुत्य च तपस्विभ्यः सत्रे वै यज्ञदक्षिणाम् ।
तां विप्रलपतां पापं यस्यार्यो ऽनुमते गतः ॥१९॥
19. saṃśrutya ca tapasvibhyaḥ satre vai yajñadakṣiṇām ,
tāṃ vipralapatāṃ pāpaṃ yasyāryo'numate gataḥ.
19. saṃśrutya ca tapasvibhyaḥ satre vai yajñadakṣiṇām
tām vipralapatām pāpam yasya āryaḥ anumate gataḥ
19. ca satre tapasvibhyaḥ yajñadakṣiṇām saṃśrutya
tām vipralapatām pāpam yasya āryaḥ anumate gataḥ
19. And the sin of those who, having promised a sacrificial fee (yajñadakṣiṇā) to ascetics (tapasvin) during a ritual (satra), then deceitfully withhold it - let that sin (pāpa) fall upon the one by whose consent a noble person has departed.
हस्त्यश्वरथसंबाधे युद्धे शस्त्रसमाकुले ।
मा स्म कार्षीत् सतां धर्मं यस्यार्यो ऽनुमते गतः ॥२०॥
20. hastyaśvarathasaṃbādhe yuddhe śastrasamākule ,
mā sma kārṣīt satāṃ dharmaṃ yasyāryo'numate gataḥ.
20. hastyaśvarathasaṃbādhe yuddhe śastrasamākule mā
sma kārṣīt satām dharmam yasya āryaḥ anumate gataḥ
20. yuddhe hastyaśvarathasaṃbādhe śastrasamākule satām
dharmam mā sma kārṣīt yasya āryaḥ anumate gataḥ
20. In a battle crowded with elephants, horses, and chariots, and filled with weapons, let him not uphold the righteous conduct (dharma) of the virtuous, the one by whose consent a noble person has departed.
उपदिष्टं सुसूक्ष्मार्थं शास्त्रं यत्नेन धीमता ।
स नाशयतु दुष्टात्मा यस्यार्यो ऽनुमते गतः ॥२१॥
21. upadiṣṭaṃ susūkṣmārthaṃ śāstraṃ yatnena dhīmatā ,
sa nāśayatu duṣṭātmā yasyāryo'numate gataḥ.
21. upadiṣṭam susūkṣmārtham śāstram yatnena dhīmatā
saḥ nāśayatu duṣṭātmā yasya āryaḥ anumate gataḥ
21. dhīmatā yatnena upadiṣṭam susūkṣmārtham śāstram
saḥ duṣṭātmā nāśayatu yasya āryaḥ anumate gataḥ
21. Let the evil-minded person (duṣṭātman), by whose consent a noble person has departed, destroy the scripture (śāstra) that, with very subtle meaning, was carefully taught by an intelligent one.
पायसं कृसरं छागं वृथा सो ऽश्नातु निर्घृणः ।
गुरूंश्चाप्यवजानातु यस्यार्यो ऽनुमते गतः ॥२२॥
22. pāyasaṃ kṛsaraṃ chāgaṃ vṛthā so'śnātu nirghṛṇaḥ ,
gurūṃścāpyavajānātu yasyāryo'numate gataḥ.
22. pāyasam kṛsaram chāgam vṛthā saḥ aśnātu nirghṛṇaḥ
gurūn ca api avajānātu yasya āryaḥ anumate gataḥ
22. saḥ nirghṛṇaḥ vṛthā pāyasam kṛsaram chāgam aśnātu
ca api gurūn avajānātu yasya āryaḥ anumate gataḥ
22. May that heartless person improperly consume rice pudding, kṛsara, and goat meat, and may he also disrespect his teachers (guru) - he, by whose consent a noble person has departed.
पुत्रैर्दारैश्च भृत्यैश्च स्वगृहे परिवारितः ।
स एको मृष्टमश्नातु यस्यार्यो ऽनुमते गतः ॥२३॥
23. putrairdāraiśca bhṛtyaiśca svagṛhe parivāritaḥ ,
sa eko mṛṣṭamaśnātu yasyāryo'numate gataḥ.
23. putraiḥ dāraiḥ ca bhṛtyaiḥ ca svagṛhe parivāritaḥ
| saḥ ekaḥ mṛṣṭam aśnātu yasya āryaḥ anumate gataḥ
23. saḥ ekaḥ mṛṣṭam aśnātu yasya āryaḥ anumate gataḥ
putraiḥ dāraiḥ ca bhṛtyaiḥ ca svagṛhe parivāritaḥ
23. Surrounded by his sons, wives, and servants in his own house, may he alone consume delicious food - he, by whose consent a noble person has departed.
राजस्त्रीबालवृद्धानां वधे यत् पापमुच्यते ।
भृत्यत्यागे च यत् पापं तत् पापं प्रतिपद्यताम् ॥२४॥
24. rājastrībālavṛddhānāṃ vadhe yat pāpamucyate ,
bhṛtyatyāge ca yat pāpaṃ tat pāpaṃ pratipadyatām.
24. rāja-strī-bāla-vṛddhānām vadhe yat pāpam ucyate |
bhṛtyatyāge ca yat pāpam tat pāpam pratipadyatām
24. yat pāpam rāja-strī-bāla-vṛddhānām vadhe ucyate,
ca yat pāpam bhṛtyatyāge,
tat pāpam pratipadyatām
24. Whatever sin is declared for the killing of kings, women, children, and old persons, and whatever sin [is incurred] by the abandonment of servants - may he incur that very sin.
उभे संध्ये शयानस्य यत् पापं परिकल्प्यते ।
तच्च पापं भवेत्तस्य यस्यार्यो ऽनुमते गतः ॥२५॥
25. ubhe saṃdhye śayānasya yat pāpaṃ parikalpyate ,
tacca pāpaṃ bhavettasya yasyāryo'numate gataḥ.
25. ubhe sandhye śayānasya yat pāpam parikalpyate |
tat ca pāpam bhavet tasya yasya āryaḥ anumate gataḥ
25. tat ca pāpam tasya bhavet,
yasya āryaḥ anumate gataḥ,
yat pāpam ubhe sandhye śayānasya parikalpyate
25. Whatever sin is incurred by one who sleeps during both twilight periods, may that sin fall upon him - he, by whose consent a noble person has departed.
यदग्निदायके पापं यत् पापं गुरुतल्पगे ।
मित्रद्रोहे च यत् पापं तत् पापं प्रतिपद्यताम् ॥२६॥
26. yadagnidāyake pāpaṃ yat pāpaṃ gurutalpage ,
mitradrohe ca yat pāpaṃ tat pāpaṃ pratipadyatām.
26. yat agnidāyake pāpam yat pāpam gurutalpage
mitradrohe ca yat pāpam tat pāpam pratipadyatām
26. yat pāpam agnidāyake,
yat pāpam gurutalpage,
ca yat pāpam mitradrohe,
tat pāpam pratipadyatām
26. May that sin, which is found in an arsonist, the sin found in one who violates the guru's (guru) wife, and the sin found in betraying a friend - may all that sin befall (him).
देवतानां पितॄणां च माता पित्रोस्तथैव च ।
मा स्म कार्षीत् स शुश्रूषां यस्यार्यो ऽनुमते गतः ॥२७॥
27. devatānāṃ pitṝṇāṃ ca mātā pitrostathaiva ca ,
mā sma kārṣīt sa śuśrūṣāṃ yasyāryo'numate gataḥ.
27. devatānām pitṝṇām ca mātā pitroḥ tathā eva ca | mā
sma kārṣīt sa śuśrūṣām yasya āryaḥ anumate gataḥ
27. yasya āryaḥ anumate gataḥ,
saḥ devatānām,
pitṝṇām ca,
tathā eva mātā pitroḥ ca śuśrūṣām mā sma kārṣīt
27. May that person, by whose consent the noble one departed, never render service to the gods, nor to the ancestors, and likewise, neither to his mother nor his father.
सतां लोकात् सतां कीर्त्याः सज्जुष्टात् कर्मणस्तथा ।
भ्रश्यतु क्षिप्रमद्यैव यस्यार्यो ऽनुमते गतः ॥२८॥
28. satāṃ lokāt satāṃ kīrtyāḥ sajjuṣṭāt karmaṇastathā ,
bhraśyatu kṣipramadyaiva yasyāryo'numate gataḥ.
28. satām lokāt satām kīrtyāḥ sajjuṣṭāt karmaṇaḥ tathā |
bhraśyatu kṣipram adya eva yasya āryaḥ anumate gataḥ
28. yasya āryaḥ anumate gataḥ,
saḥ kṣipram adya eva satām lokāt,
satām kīrtyāḥ,
tathā sajjuṣṭāt karmaṇaḥ bhraśyatu
28. May that person, by whose consent the noble one departed, quickly fall, right this very day, from the realm of the virtuous, from the good reputation of the virtuous, and likewise from actions (karma) esteemed by the virtuous.
विहीनां पतिपुत्राभ्यां कौसल्यां पार्थिवात्मजः ।
एवमाश्वसयन्नेव दुःखार्तो निपपात ह ॥२९॥
29. vihīnāṃ patiputrābhyāṃ kausalyāṃ pārthivātmajaḥ ,
evamāśvasayanneva duḥkhārto nipapāta ha.
29. vihīnām pati-putrābhyām kausalyām pārthiva-ātmajaḥ
| evam āśvasayan eva duḥkha-ārtaḥ nipapāta ha
29. pati-putrābhyām vihīnām kausalyām,
pārthivātmajaḥ evam āśvasayan eva,
duḥkhārtaḥ ha nipapāta
29. The king's son, Bharata, thus consoling Kausalya, who was bereft of both her husband and sons, himself afflicted by sorrow, indeed fell down.
तथा तु शपथैः कष्टैः शपमानमचेतनम् ।
भरतं शोकसंतप्तं कौसल्या वाक्यमब्रवीत् ॥३०॥
30. tathā tu śapathaiḥ kaṣṭaiḥ śapamānamacetanam ,
bharataṃ śokasaṃtaptaṃ kausalyā vākyamabravīt.
30. tathā tu śapathaiḥ kaṣṭaiḥ śapamānam acetanam
bharatam śokasaṃtaptam kausalyā vākyam abravīt
30. kausalyā śokasaṃtaptam acetanam śapathaiḥ kaṣṭaiḥ

30. Kausalya then spoke these words to Bharata, who was distraught with grief, bewildered, and repeatedly taking difficult oaths.
मम दुःखमिदं पुत्र भूयः समुपजायते ।
शपथैः शपमानो हि प्राणानुपरुणत्सि मे ॥३१॥
31. mama duḥkhamidaṃ putra bhūyaḥ samupajāyate ,
śapathaiḥ śapamāno hi prāṇānuparuṇatsi me.
31. mama duḥkham idam putra bhūyaḥ samupajāyate
śapathaiḥ śapamānaḥ hi prāṇān uparuṇatsi me
31. putra mama idam duḥkham bhūyaḥ samupajāyate
hi śapathaiḥ śapamānaḥ me prāṇān uparuṇatsi
31. O son, this sorrow of mine arises again and again. Indeed, by repeatedly taking oaths, you torment my very life.
दिष्ट्या न चलितो धर्मादात्मा ते सहलक्ष्मणः ।
वत्स सत्यप्रतिज्ञो मे सतां लोकानवाप्स्यसि ॥३२॥
32. diṣṭyā na calito dharmādātmā te sahalakṣmaṇaḥ ,
vatsa satyapratijño me satāṃ lokānavāpsyasi.
32. diṣṭyā na calitaḥ dharmāt ātmā te sahalakṣmaṇaḥ
vatsa satyapratijñaḥ me satām lokān avāpsyasi
32. diṣṭyā te sahalakṣmaṇaḥ ātmā dharmāt na calitaḥ
vatsa satyapratijñaḥ (tvam) me satām lokān avāpsyasi
32. Fortunately, your inner self (ātman), along with Lakshmana, has not deviated from the natural law (dharma). O dear child, you who are firm in your sacred vows will attain the realms of the virtuous for my sake.
एवं विलपमानस्य दुःखार्तस्य महात्मनः ।
मोहाच्च शोकसंरोधाद्बभूव लुलितं मनः ॥३३॥
33. evaṃ vilapamānasya duḥkhārtasya mahātmanaḥ ,
mohācca śokasaṃrodhādbabhūva lulitaṃ manaḥ.
33. evam vilapamānasya duḥkhārtasya mahātmanaḥ
mohāt ca śokasaṃrodhāt babhūva lulitam manaḥ
33. evam vilapamānasya duḥkhārtasya mahātmanaḥ
ca mohāt śokasaṃrodhāt manaḥ lulitam babhūva
33. Thus, as that great-souled one, distraught with sorrow, continued lamenting, his mind became agitated due to delusion and being overwhelmed by grief.
लालप्यमानस्य विचेतनस्य प्रनष्टबुद्धेः पतितस्य भूमौ ।
मुहुर्मुहुर्निःश्वसतश्च दीर्घं सा तस्य शोकेन जगाम रात्रिः ॥३४॥
34. lālapyamānasya vicetanasya pranaṣṭabuddheḥ patitasya bhūmau ,
muhurmuhurniḥśvasataśca dīrghaṃ sā tasya śokena jagāma rātriḥ.

pranaṣṭabuddheḥ patitasya bhūmau
muhuḥ muhuḥ niḥśvasataḥ ca dīrgham
sā tasya śokena jagāma rātriḥ
34. sā rātriḥ tasya śokena jagāma

muhuḥ ca dīrgham niḥśvasataḥ
34. That night passed for him, as he intensely lamented, lay senseless on the ground with his intellect lost, and sighed deeply again and again, overwhelmed by sorrow.
