After Rāma (Jāmadagnya) had departed, Rāma, son of Daśaratha, whose spirit (ātman) was tranquil, gave the bow, along with its arrows, to the immeasurable Varuṇa.

Then, Rāma, the scion of Raghu, after greeting Vasiṣṭha and the other prominent sages, saw his father distraught and spoke.
जामदग्न्यो गतो रामः प्रयातु चतुरङ्गिणी ।
अयोध्याभिमुखी सेना त्वया नाथेन पालिता ॥३॥

Rāma, the son of Jamadagni, has departed. Now, let the four-limbed army, protected by you as its lord, proceed towards Ayodhyā.

Having heard Rāma's words, King Daśaratha embraced his son, the scion of Raghu, with both arms and smelled his head (kissed him on the forehead).
गतो राम इति श्रुत्वा हृष्टः प्रमुदितो नृपः ।
चोदयामास तां सेनां जगामाशु ततः पुरीम् ॥५॥

Hearing, "Rāma has departed," the king became joyous and exceedingly delighted. He then ordered that army to proceed and quickly returned to the city.

Beautiful, adorned with flags and banners, resounding with the blare of trumpets, with its royal roads sprinkled, and strewn with heaps of flowers.

The king entered the city, which was full of citizens whose faces were cheerful for his entry and who spoke auspicious words, and which was well-adorned by throngs of people.
कौसल्या च सुमित्रा च कैकेयी च सुमध्यमा ।

Kausalya, Sumitra, and Kaikeyi, (the one) with the slender waist, as well as other royal ladies, were engaged in receiving the brides.

Then the royal wives received the greatly fortunate Sītā, the glorious Urmilā, and both daughters of Kuśadhvaja.
मङ्गलालापनैश्चैव शोभिताः क्षौमवाससः ।
देवतायतनान्याशु सर्वास्ताः प्रत्यपूजयन् ॥१०॥

10. maṅgalālāpanaiścaiva śobhitāḥ kṣaumavāsasaḥ ,

Adorned with auspicious chants and clad in silken garments, all of them quickly offered worship to the temples of the deities.

Then, after saluting those worthy of veneration, all those princesses, delighted and accompanied by their husbands, enjoyed themselves in private.
कृतदाराः कृतास्त्राश्च सधनाः ससुहृज्जनाः ।
शुश्रूषमाणाः पितरं वर्तयन्ति नरर्षभाः ॥१२॥

12. kṛtadārāḥ kṛtāstrāśca sadhanāḥ sasuhṛjjanāḥ ,

kṛtadārāḥ kṛtāstrāḥ ca sadhanāḥ sasuhṛjjanāḥ

kṛtadārāḥ kṛtāstrāḥ ca sadhanāḥ sasuhṛjjanāḥ

12.
Those best among men, who had taken wives, mastered weapons, were wealthy, and surrounded by friends, lived (their lives) serving their father.
तेषामतियशा लोके रामः सत्यपराक्रमः ।
स्वयम्भूरिव भूतानां बभूव गुणवत्तरः ॥१३॥

13. teṣāmatiyaśā loke rāmaḥ satyaparākramaḥ ,

13.
Among them, Rama, whose valor was true and who was greatly renowned in the world, became superior in qualities, just like the Self-existent One (Svayambhū) is for all beings.
रामस्तु सीतया सार्धं विजहार बहूनृतून् ।
मनस्वी तद्गतस्तस्या नित्यं हृदि समर्पितः ॥१४॥

14. rāmastu sītayā sārdhaṃ vijahāra bahūnṛtūn ,
manasvī tadgatastasyā nityaṃ hṛdi samarpitaḥ.

Rāma, noble in mind, spent many seasons enjoying himself with Sītā. Always absorbed in her, he was perpetually devoted to her in his heart.
प्रिया तु सीता रामस्य दाराः पितृकृता इति ।
गुणाद् रूपगुणाच्चापि प्रीतिर्भूयो व्यवर्धत ॥१५॥

15. priyā tu sītā rāmasya dārāḥ pitṛkṛtā iti ,

Sītā was truly dear to him, being Rāma's wife given by his father. His affection for her greatly increased due to both her virtues and her beautiful form.
तस्याश्च भर्ता द्विगुणं हृदये परिवर्तते ।
अन्तर्जातमपि व्यक्तमाख्याति हृदयं हृदा ॥१६॥

16. tasyāśca bhartā dviguṇaṃ hṛdaye parivartate ,

And her husband dwelled in her heart with twice the intensity. Her heart openly revealed even its innermost thoughts through its feelings.

17. tasya bhūyo viśeṣeṇa maithilī janakātmajā ,

For him, Janaka's daughter (Maithilī) was exceptionally and profoundly cherished. Sītā, in her form, was equal to the goddesses, like Śrī (the goddess of prosperity) herself embodied.
तया स राजर्षिसुतो ऽभिरामया समेयिवानुत्तमराजकन्यया ।
अतीव रामः शुशुभे ऽतिकामया विभुः श्रिया विष्णुरिवामरेश्वरः ॥१८॥

18. tayā sa rājarṣisuto'bhirāmayā sameyivānuttamarājakanyayā ,

rājarṣisutaḥ saḥ rāmaḥ tayā abhirāmayā uttama-rājakanyayā sameyivān.

18.
United with that charming and excellent princess, the son of the royal sage, Rama, shone exceedingly with splendor and intense affection, a mighty lord, just like Vishnu, the lord of the immortals.
