अयोध्यां तु समालोक्य चिन्तयामास राघवः ।
चिन्तयित्वा ततो दृष्टिं वानरेषु न्यपातयत् ॥१॥

1. Having carefully observed Ayodhya, Rāma (rāghava) began to ponder. After reflecting, he then cast his gaze upon the monkeys.
प्रियकामः प्रियं रामस्ततस्त्वरितविक्रमम् ।
उवाच धीमांस्तेजस्वी हनूमन्तं प्लवंगमम् ॥२॥
2. priyakāmaḥ priyaṃ rāmastatastvaritavikramam ,
uvāca dhīmāṃstejasvī hanūmantaṃ plavaṃgamam.
2. priyakāmaḥ priyam rāmaḥ tataḥ tvaritavikramam
uvāca dhīmān tejasvī hanūmantam plavaṅgamam

2. Then, the intelligent (dhīmān) and energetic (tejasvī) Rāma, ever wishing well, spoke to the dear Hanumān, the monkey (plavaṅgama) of swift valor.
अयोध्यां त्वरितो गच्छ क्षिप्रं त्वं प्लवगोत्तम ।
जानीहि कच्चित् कुशली जनो नृपतिमन्दिरे ॥३॥
3. ayodhyāṃ tvarito gaccha kṣipraṃ tvaṃ plavagottama ,
jānīhi kaccit kuśalī jano nṛpatimandire.

3. he plavagottama,

3. “O best of monkeys (plavagottama), you must go swiftly to Ayodhya immediately. Ascertain whether the people in the royal palace are safe and sound.
शृङ्गवेरपुरं प्राप्य गुहं गहनगोचरम् ।
निषादाधिपतिं ब्रूहि कुशलं वचनान्मम ॥४॥
4. śṛṅgaverapuraṃ prāpya guhaṃ gahanagocaram ,
niṣādādhipatiṃ brūhi kuśalaṃ vacanānmama.

4. “Having reached Śṛṅgaverapura, convey my well-being (kuśala) to Guha, the chief of the Niṣādas, who traverses the deep forests (gahanagocara) and roams there.
श्रुत्वा तु मां कुशलिनमरोगं विगतज्वरम् ।
भविष्यति गुहः प्रीतः स ममात्मसमः सखा ॥५॥
5. śrutvā tu māṃ kuśalinamarogaṃ vigatajvaram ,
bhaviṣyati guhaḥ prītaḥ sa mamātmasamaḥ sakhā.

5. Having heard that I am well, healthy, and free from distress, Guha, my friend who is like my own self (ātman), will certainly be pleased.
अयोध्यायाश्च ते मार्गं प्रवृत्तिं भरतस्य च ।
निवेदयिष्यति प्रीतो निषादाधिपतिर्गुहः ॥६॥
6. ayodhyāyāśca te mārgaṃ pravṛttiṃ bharatasya ca ,
nivedayiṣyati prīto niṣādādhipatirguhaḥ.

ca nivedayiṣyati prītaḥ niṣādādhipatiḥ guhaḥ

6. The pleased chieftain of the Niṣādas, Guha, will inform you of the way to Ayodhya and the news of Bharata's activities.
भरतस्तु त्वया वाच्यः कुशलं वचनान्मम ।
सिद्धार्थं शंस मां तस्मै सभार्यं सहलक्ष्मणम् ॥७॥
7. bharatastu tvayā vācyaḥ kuśalaṃ vacanānmama ,
siddhārthaṃ śaṃsa māṃ tasmai sabhāryaṃ sahalakṣmaṇam.
7. bharataḥ tu tvayā vācyaḥ kuśalam vacanāt mama
siddhārtham śaṃsa mām tasmai sabhāryam sahalakṣmaṇam

7. Bharata, however, should be told by you of my well-being, by my words. Inform him that I, along with my wife and Lakṣmaṇa, have achieved our purpose.
हरणं चापि वैदेह्या रावणेन बलीयसा ।
सुग्रीवेण च संवादं वालिनश्च वधं रणे ॥८॥
8. haraṇaṃ cāpi vaidehyā rāvaṇena balīyasā ,
sugrīveṇa ca saṃvādaṃ vālinaśca vadhaṃ raṇe.
8. haraṇam ca api vaidehyāḥ rāvaṇena balīyasā
sugrīveṇa ca saṃvādam vālinaḥ ca vadham raṇe

8. Also, [inform him about] the abduction of Vaidehī by the mighty Rāvaṇa, and the discussions with Sugrīva, and the slaying of Vālin in battle.
मैथिल्यन्वेषणं चैव यथा चाधिगता त्वया ।
लङ्घयित्वा महातोयमापगापतिमव्ययम् ॥९॥
9. maithilyanveṣaṇaṃ caiva yathā cādhigatā tvayā ,
laṅghayitvā mahātoyamāpagāpatimavyayam.

tvayā laṅghayitvā mahātoyam āpagāpatim avyayam

9. And the search for Maithili (Sītā), and how she was found by you after you had leaped over the vast waters of the immense ocean.
उपयानं समुद्रस्य सागरस्य च दर्शनम् ।
यथा च कारितः सेतू रावणश्च यथा हतः ॥१०॥
10. upayānaṃ samudrasya sāgarasya ca darśanam ,
yathā ca kāritaḥ setū rāvaṇaśca yathā hataḥ.

yathā ca kāritaḥ setuḥ rāvaṇaḥ ca yathā hataḥ
10. samudrasya sāgarasya ca upayānam darśanam ca

10. The approach to the ocean, the sight of the ocean, and how the bridge was constructed, and how Rāvaṇa was slain.
वरदानं महेन्द्रेण ब्रह्मणा वरुणेन च ।
महादेवप्रसादाच्च पित्रा मम समागमम् ॥११॥
11. varadānaṃ mahendreṇa brahmaṇā varuṇena ca ,
mahādevaprasādācca pitrā mama samāgamam.

11. The granting of boons by Mahendra (Indra), Brahmā, and Varuṇa; and by the grace of Mahādeva (Śiva), my reunion with my father.
जित्वा शत्रुगणान् रामः प्राप्य चानुत्तमं यशः ।
उपयाति समृद्धार्थः सह मित्रैर्महाबलः ॥१२॥
12. jitvā śatrugaṇān rāmaḥ prāpya cānuttamaṃ yaśaḥ ,
upayāti samṛddhārthaḥ saha mitrairmahābalaḥ.
12. jitvā śatrugaṇān rāmaḥ prāpya ca anuttamam yaśaḥ
upayāti samṛddhārthaḥ saha mitraiḥ mahābalaḥ
12. rāmaḥ śatrugaṇān jitvā ca anuttamam yaśaḥ prāpya

12. Having conquered the hosts of enemies and attained incomparable fame, Rāma, with his purpose (artha) fulfilled and immense strength, returns with his friends.
एतच्छ्रुत्वा यमाकारं भजते भरतस्ततः ।
स च ते वेदितव्यः स्यात् सर्वं यच्चापि मां प्रति ॥१३॥
13. etacchrutvā yamākāraṃ bhajate bharatastataḥ ,
sa ca te veditavyaḥ syāt sarvaṃ yaccāpi māṃ prati.
13. etat śrutvā yam ākāram bhajate bharataḥ tataḥ saḥ
ca te veditavyaḥ syāt sarvam yat ca api mām prati
13. te etat śrutvā tataḥ bharataḥ yam ākāram bhajate
saḥ ca yat ca api mām prati sarvam veditavyaḥ syāt
13. Having heard this, Bharata's disposition thereafter, and everything concerning me, should be understood by you.
ज्ञेयाः सर्वे च वृत्तान्ता भरतस्येङ्गितानि च ।
तत्त्वेन मुखवर्णेन दृष्ट्या व्याभाषणेन च ॥१४॥
14. jñeyāḥ sarve ca vṛttāntā bharatasyeṅgitāni ca ,
tattvena mukhavarṇena dṛṣṭyā vyābhāṣaṇena ca.
14. jñeyāḥ sarve ca vṛttāntāḥ bharatasya iṅgitāni
ca tattvena mukhavarṇena dṛṣṭyā vyābhāṣaṇena ca
14. bharatasya sarve vṛttāntāḥ ca iṅgitāni ca jñeyāḥ
tattvena mukhavarṇena dṛṣṭyā ca vyābhāṣaṇena ca
14. All of Bharata's actions and intentions should be ascertained: truly, through his facial expression, his gaze, and his speech.
सर्वकामसमृद्धं हि हस्त्यश्वरथसंकुलम् ।
पितृपैतामहं राज्यं कस्य नावर्तयेन्मनः ॥१५॥
15. sarvakāmasamṛddhaṃ hi hastyaśvarathasaṃkulam ,
pitṛpaitāmahaṃ rājyaṃ kasya nāvartayenmanaḥ.
15. sarvakāmasamṛddham hi hasti aśva ratha saṃkulam
pitṛpaitāmaham rājyam kasya na āvartayet manaḥ
15. hi sarvakāmasamṛddham hasti aśva ratha saṃkulam
pitṛpaitāmaham rājyam kasya manaḥ na āvartayet
15. Indeed, an ancestral kingdom, abundant with all desired things and teeming with elephants, horses, and chariots, whose mind would it not sway?
संगत्या भरतः श्रीमान् राज्येनार्थी स्वयं भवेत् ।
प्रशास्तु वसुधां सर्वामखिलां रघुनन्दनः ॥१६॥
16. saṃgatyā bharataḥ śrīmān rājyenārthī svayaṃ bhavet ,
praśāstu vasudhāṃ sarvāmakhilāṃ raghunandanaḥ.
16. saṅgatyā bharataḥ śrīmān rājyena arthī svayam bhavet
praśāstu vasudhām sarvām akhilām raghunandanaḥ
16. saṅgatyā śrīmān bharataḥ rājyena arthī svayam bhavet
raghunandanaḥ sarvām akhilām vasudhām praśāstu
16. Given the circumstances, the glorious Bharata himself might become desirous of the kingdom. (But) let Rama, the descendant of Raghu, rule the entire, undivided earth.
तस्य बुद्धिं च विज्ञाय व्यवसायं च वानर ।
यावन्न दूरं याताः स्मः क्षिप्रमागन्तुमर्हसि ॥१७॥
17. tasya buddhiṃ ca vijñāya vyavasāyaṃ ca vānara ,
yāvanna dūraṃ yātāḥ smaḥ kṣipramāgantumarhasi.
17. tasya buddhim ca vijñāya vyavasāyam ca vānara
yāvat na dūram yātāḥ smaḥ kṣipram āgantum arhasi
17. vānara tasya buddhim ca vyavasāyam ca vijñāya
yāvat na dūram yātāḥ smaḥ kṣipram āgantum arhasi
17. O Vanara, understanding his intelligence and his firm resolve, you should return quickly, before we have gone too far.
इति प्रतिसमादिष्टो हनूमान्मारुतात्मजः ।
मानुषं धारयन् रूपमयोध्यां त्वरितो ययौ ॥१८॥
18. iti pratisamādiṣṭo hanūmānmārutātmajaḥ ,
mānuṣaṃ dhārayan rūpamayodhyāṃ tvarito yayau.
18. iti pratisamādiṣṭaḥ hanumān mārutātmajaḥ
mānuṣam dhārayan rūpam ayodhyām tvaritaḥ yayau
18. iti pratisamādiṣṭaḥ mārutātmajaḥ hanumān

18. Thus commanded, Hanuman, the son of Maruta (Vāyu), quickly set off for Ayodhya, having assumed a human form.
लङ्घयित्वा पितृपथं भुजगेन्द्रालयं शुभम् ।
गङ्गायमुनयोर्भीमं संनिपातमतीत्य च ॥१९॥
19. laṅghayitvā pitṛpathaṃ bhujagendrālayaṃ śubham ,
gaṅgāyamunayorbhīmaṃ saṃnipātamatītya ca.
19. laṅghayitvā pitṛpatham bhujagendrālayaṃ śubham
gaṅgāyamunayoḥ bhīmam saṃnipātam atītya ca
19. pitṛpatham bhujagendrālayaṃ śubham laṅghayitvā
gaṅgāyamunayoḥ bhīmam saṃnipātam ca atītya
19. Having traversed the sky (the path of the ancestors) and the auspicious abode of the lord of serpents (the ocean), and having passed beyond the formidable confluence of the Ganga and Yamuna.
शृङ्गवेरपुरं प्राप्य गुहमासाद्य वीर्यवान् ।
स वाचा शुभया हृष्टो हनूमानिदमब्रवीत् ॥२०॥
20. śṛṅgaverapuraṃ prāpya guhamāsādya vīryavān ,
sa vācā śubhayā hṛṣṭo hanūmānidamabravīt.
20. śṛṅgaverapuram prāpya guham āsādya vīryavān
sa vācā śubhayā hṛṣṭaḥ hanumān idam abravīt
20. vīryavān hanumān śṛṅgaverapuram prāpya guham

20. Having reached Śṛṅgaverapura and met Guha, that mighty Hanuman, delighted, spoke these auspicious words.
सखा तु तव काकुत्स्थो रामः सत्यपराक्रमः ।
ससीतः सह सौमित्रिः स त्वां कुशलमब्रवीत् ॥२१॥
21. sakhā tu tava kākutstho rāmaḥ satyaparākramaḥ ,
sasītaḥ saha saumitriḥ sa tvāṃ kuśalamabravīt.
21. sakhā tu tava kākutsthaḥ rāmaḥ satyaparākramaḥ
sasītaḥ saha saumitriḥ saḥ tvām kuśalam abravīt
21. tava sakhā kākutsthaḥ rāmaḥ satyaparākramaḥ

21. Your truly mighty friend, Rama, a descendant of Kakutstha, along with Sita and Lakshmana, has indeed inquired about your welfare.
पञ्चमीमद्य रजनीमुषित्वा वचनान्मुनेः ।
भरद्वाजाभ्यनुज्ञातं द्रक्ष्यस्यद्यैव राघवम् ॥२२॥
22. pañcamīmadya rajanīmuṣitvā vacanānmuneḥ ,
bharadvājābhyanujñātaṃ drakṣyasyadyaiva rāghavam.
22. pañcamīm adya rajanīm uṣitvā vacanāt muneḥ
bharadvāja abhyanujñātam drakṣyasi adya eva rāghavam
22. adya pañcamīm rajanīm uṣitvā muneḥ vacanāt

22. After spending this fifth night, by the permission of the sage (muni) Bharadvaja, you will see Rama (rāghava) today itself.
एवमुक्त्वा महातेजाः संप्रहृष्टतनूरुहः ।
उत्पपात महावेगो वेगवानविचारयन् ॥२३॥
23. evamuktvā mahātejāḥ saṃprahṛṣṭatanūruhaḥ ,
utpapāta mahāvego vegavānavicārayan.
23. evam uktvā mahātejāḥ samprahṛṣṭatanūruhaḥ
utpapāta mahāvegaḥ vegavān avicārayan
23. evam uktvā mahātejāḥ samprahṛṣṭatanūruhaḥ
mahāvegaḥ vegavān avicārayan utpapāta
23. Having spoken thus, the greatly glorious one, with his body hair bristling (with joy), rose with immense speed, swift and without hesitation.
सो ऽपश्यद् रामतीर्थं च नदीं वालुकिनीं तथा ।
गोमतीं तां च सो ऽपश्यद्भीमं सालवनं तथा ॥२४॥
24. so'paśyad rāmatīrthaṃ ca nadīṃ vālukinīṃ tathā ,
gomatīṃ tāṃ ca so'paśyadbhīmaṃ sālavanaṃ tathā.
24. saḥ apaśyat rāmatīrtham ca nadīm vālukinīm tathā
gomatīm tām ca saḥ apaśyat bhīmam sālavanam tathā
24. saḥ rāmatīrtham ca vālukinīm nadīm tathā apaśyat
saḥ tām gomatīm ca bhīmam sālavanam tathā apaśyat
24. He saw Rama's sacred bathing place (tīrtha) and the Valukini River. He also saw that Gomati River and the immense Sal forest.
स गत्वा दूरमध्वानं त्वरितः कपिकुञ्जरः ।
आससाद द्रुमान्फुल्लान्नन्दिग्रामसमीपजान् ॥२५॥
25. sa gatvā dūramadhvānaṃ tvaritaḥ kapikuñjaraḥ ,
āsasāda drumānphullānnandigrāmasamīpajān.
25. saḥ gatvā dūram adhvānam tvaritaḥ kapikuñjaraḥ
āsasāda drumān phullān nandigrāmasamīpajān
25. saḥ kapikuñjaraḥ tvaritaḥ dūram adhvānam gatvā
nandigrāmasamīpajān phullān drumān āsasāda
25. Having swiftly traveled a long distance, the best among monkeys reached the flowering trees located near Nandigrama.
क्रोशमात्रे त्वयोध्यायाश्चीरकृष्णाजिनाम्बरम् ।
ददर्श भरतं दीनं कृशमाश्रमवासिनम् ॥२६॥
26. krośamātre tvayodhyāyāścīrakṛṣṇājināmbaram ,
dadarśa bharataṃ dīnaṃ kṛśamāśramavāsinam.
26. krośamātre tu ayodhyāyāḥ cīrakṛṣṇājināmbaram
dadarśa bharatam dīnam kṛśam āśramavāsinam
26. tu ayodhyāyāḥ krośamātre dīnam kṛśam
āśramavāsinam cīrakṛṣṇājināmbaram bharatam dadarśa
26. Indeed, at just one krośa (approximately two miles) from Ayodhya, he saw Bharata, who was distressed, emaciated, dwelling in an hermitage (āśrama), and clad in bark garments and a black deerskin.
जटिलं मलदिग्धाङ्गं भ्रातृव्यसनकर्शितम् ।
फलमूलाशिनं दान्तं तापसं धर्मचारिणम् ॥२७॥
27. jaṭilaṃ maladigdhāṅgaṃ bhrātṛvyasanakarśitam ,
phalamūlāśinaṃ dāntaṃ tāpasaṃ dharmacāriṇam.
27. jaṭilam maladigdhāṅgam bhrātṛvyasanakarśitam
phalamūlāśinam dāntam tāpasam dharmacāriṇam

27. With matted locks, his limbs smeared with dirt, emaciated by the grief for his brother, subsisting on fruits and roots, self-controlled, an ascetic, and devoted to observing his intrinsic nature (dharma).
समुन्नतजटाभारं वल्कलाजिनवाससं ।
नियतं भावितात्मानं ब्रह्मर्षिसमतेजसं ॥२८॥
28. samunnatajaṭābhāraṃ valkalājinavāsasaṃ ,
niyataṃ bhāvitātmānaṃ brahmarṣisamatejasaṃ.

28. With an elevated mass of matted hair, clad in bark and deerskin, constantly practicing self-purification or contemplation of the self (ātman), and possessing a radiance equal to that of a brahmin sage (brahmarṣi).
पादुके ते पुरस्कृत्य शासन्तं वै वसुंधराम् ।
चतुर्वर्ण्यस्य लोकस्य त्रातारं सर्वतो भयात् ॥२९॥
29. pāduke te puraskṛtya śāsantaṃ vai vasuṃdharām ,
caturvarṇyasya lokasya trātāraṃ sarvato bhayāt.
29. pāduke te puraskṛtya śāsantam vai vasuṃdharām
caturvarṇyasya lokasya trātāram sarvataḥ bhayāt

29. Having placed those sandals before him, he ruled the earth as the protector of the four-fold social order (caturvarṇya) from all fears.
उपस्थितममात्यैश्च शुचिभिश्च पुरोहितैः ।
बलमुख्यैश्च युक्तैश्च काषायाम्बरधारिभिः ॥३०॥
30. upasthitamamātyaiśca śucibhiśca purohitaiḥ ,
balamukhyaiśca yuktaiśca kāṣāyāmbaradhāribhiḥ.
30. upasthitam amātyaiḥ ca śucibhiḥ ca purohitaiḥ
balamukhyaiḥ ca yuktaiḥ ca kāṣāyāmbaradhāribhiḥ
30. amātyaiḥ ca śucibhiḥ purohitaiḥ ca balamukhyaiḥ
ca yuktaiḥ ca kāṣāyāmbaradhāribhiḥ upasthitam
30. He was attended by ministers, by pure priests, and by competent army chiefs, all adorned in ochre garments.
न हि ते राजपुत्रं तं चीरकृष्णाजिनाम्बरम् ।
परिमोक्तुं व्यवस्यन्ति पौरा वै धर्मवत्सलाः ॥३१॥
31. na hi te rājaputraṃ taṃ cīrakṛṣṇājināmbaram ,
parimoktuṃ vyavasyanti paurā vai dharmavatsalāḥ.
31. na hi te rājaputram tam cīrakṛṣṇājināmbaram
parimoktum vyavasyanti paurāḥ vai dharmavatsalāḥ
31. te paurāḥ vai dharmavatsalāḥ hi tam rājaputram
cīrakṛṣṇājināmbaram parimoktum na vyavasyanti
31. Indeed, the citizens, devoted to (dharma), were surely not able to abandon that prince, who was dressed in bark and black deerskin garments.
तं धर्ममिव धर्मज्ञं देववन्तमिवापरम् ।
उवाच प्राञ्जलिर्वाक्यं हनूमान्मारुतात्मजः ॥३२॥
32. taṃ dharmamiva dharmajñaṃ devavantamivāparam ,
uvāca prāñjalirvākyaṃ hanūmānmārutātmajaḥ.
32. tam dharmam iva dharmajñam devavantam iva aparam
uvāca prāñjaliḥ vākyam hanūmān mārutātmajaḥ
32. mārutātmajaḥ hanūmān prāñjaliḥ tam dharmam iva
dharmajñam aparam iva devavantam vākyam uvāca
32. Hanuman, the son of Maruta (Mārutātmaja), spoke with folded hands to him, who was like (dharma) personified, a knower of (dharma), and like another deity.
वसन्तं दण्डकारण्ये यं त्वं चीरजटाधरम् ।
अनुशोचसि काकुत्स्थं स त्वा कुशलमब्रवीत् ॥३३॥
33. vasantaṃ daṇḍakāraṇye yaṃ tvaṃ cīrajaṭādharam ,
anuśocasi kākutsthaṃ sa tvā kuśalamabravīt.
33. vasantam daṇḍakāraṇye yam tvam cīrajaṭādharam
anuśocasi kākutstham sa tvā kuśalam abravīt
33. tvam yam kākutstham daṇḍakāraṇye vasantam cīrajaṭādharam anuśocasi,
saḥ tvā kuśalam abravīt
33. He, the descendant of Kakutstha, whom you lament - the one dwelling in the Daṇḍaka forest, wearing bark garments and matted hair - he has conveyed his well-being to you.
प्रियमाख्यामि ते देव शोकं त्यक्ष्यसि दारुणम् ।
अस्मिन्मुहूर्ते भ्रात्रा त्वं रामेण सह संगतः ॥३४॥
34. priyamākhyāmi te deva śokaṃ tyakṣyasi dāruṇam ,
asminmuhūrte bhrātrā tvaṃ rāmeṇa saha saṃgataḥ.
34. priyam ākhyāmi te deva śokam tyakṣyasi dāruṇam
asmin muhūrte bhrātrā tvam rāmeṇa saha saṃgataḥ
34. deva,
te priyam ākhyāmi.
tvam dāruṇam śokam tyakṣyasi.
asmin muhūrte tvam bhrātrā rāmeṇa saha saṃgataḥ (asi)
34. O lord, I tell you good news! You will abandon your dreadful sorrow. At this very moment, you are reunited with your brother Rāma.
निहत्य रावणं रामः प्रतिलभ्य च मैथिलीम् ।
उपयाति समृद्धार्थः सह मित्रैर्महाबलैः ॥३५॥
35. nihatya rāvaṇaṃ rāmaḥ pratilabhya ca maithilīm ,
upayāti samṛddhārthaḥ saha mitrairmahābalaiḥ.

upayāti samṛddhārthaḥ saha mitraiḥ mahābalaiḥ
35. rāmaḥ rāvaṇam nihatya ca maithilīm pratilabhya,

35. Rāma, having slain Rāvaṇa and recovered Maithilī (Sītā), is returning, his objective accomplished, accompanied by his mighty friends.
लक्ष्मणश्च महातेजा वैदेही च यशस्विनी ।
सीता समग्रा रामेण महेन्द्रेण शची यथा ॥३६॥
36. lakṣmaṇaśca mahātejā vaidehī ca yaśasvinī ,
sītā samagrā rāmeṇa mahendreṇa śacī yathā.
36. lakṣmaṇaḥ ca mahātejāḥ vaidehī ca yaśasvinī
sītā samagrā rāmeṇa mahendreṇa śacī yathā
36. mahātejāḥ lakṣmaṇaḥ ca yaśasvinī vaidehī sītā ca rāmeṇa samagrā (asti),
yathā mahendreṇa śacī (samagrā asti)
36. And Lakṣmaṇa, of great splendor, and the glorious Vaidehī (Sītā) are completely reunited with Rāma, just as Śacī is with Mahendra.
एवमुक्तो हनुमता भरतः कैकयीसुतः ।
पपात सहसा हृष्टो हर्षान्मोहं जगाम ह ॥३७॥
37. evamukto hanumatā bharataḥ kaikayīsutaḥ ,
papāta sahasā hṛṣṭo harṣānmohaṃ jagāma ha.
37. evam uktaḥ hanumatā bharataḥ kaikeyī-sutaḥ |
papāta sahasā hṛṣṭaḥ harṣāt moham jagāma ha
37. evam uktaḥ hanumatā kaikeyī-sutaḥ bharataḥ sahasā papāta,
hṛṣṭaḥ harṣāt moham jagāma ha
37. Thus addressed by Hanumat, Bharata, the son of Kaikeyī, suddenly fell down, overwhelmed with joy, and from that intense happiness, he entered a state of unconsciousness.
ततो मुहूर्तादुत्थाय प्रत्याश्वस्य च राघवः ।
हनूमन्तमुवाचेदं भरतः प्रियवादिनम् ॥३८॥
38. tato muhūrtādutthāya pratyāśvasya ca rāghavaḥ ,
hanūmantamuvācedaṃ bharataḥ priyavādinam.
38. tataḥ muhūrtāt utthāya pratyāśvasya ca rāghavaḥ
| hanūmantam uvāca idam bharataḥ priya-vādīnam

38. Then, after a moment, Bharata, the descendant of Raghu, rising up and regaining consciousness, spoke these words to Hanumat, the speaker of pleasant words.
अशोकजैः प्रीतिमयैः कपिमालिङ्ग्य संभ्रमात् ।
सिषेच भरतः श्रीमान् विपुलैरश्रुबिन्दुभिः ॥३९॥
39. aśokajaiḥ prītimayaiḥ kapimāliṅgya saṃbhramāt ,
siṣeca bharataḥ śrīmān vipulairaśrubindubhiḥ.
39. aśoka-jaiḥ prīti-mayaiḥ kapim āliṅgya sambhramāt
| siṣeca bharataḥ śrīmān vipulaiḥ aśru-bindubhiḥ
39. śrīmān bharataḥ sambhramāt kapim āliṅgya,

39. Embracing the monkey (Hanumat) with urgency, the glorious Bharata bathed him with abundant teardrops, tears born of joy and full of deep affection.
देवो वा मानुषो वा त्वमनुक्रोशादिहागतः ।
प्रियाख्यानस्य ते सौम्य ददामि ब्रुवतः प्रियम् ॥४०॥
40. devo vā mānuṣo vā tvamanukrośādihāgataḥ ,
priyākhyānasya te saumya dadāmi bruvataḥ priyam.
40. devaḥ vā mānuṣaḥ vā tvam anukrośāt iha āgataḥ |
priya-ākhyānasya te saumya dadāmi bruvataḥ priyam
40. tvam devaḥ vā mānuṣaḥ vā anukrośāt iha āgataḥ? he saumya,
priya-ākhyānasya bruvataḥ te priyam dadāmi
40. Are you a god or a human who has come here out of compassion? O gentle one, to you who has spoken this pleasant news, I give a dear boon.
गवां शतसहस्रं च ग्रामाणां च शतं परम् ।
सकुण्डलाः शुभाचारा भार्याः कन्याश्च षोडश ॥४१॥
41. gavāṃ śatasahasraṃ ca grāmāṇāṃ ca śataṃ param ,
sakuṇḍalāḥ śubhācārā bhāryāḥ kanyāśca ṣoḍaśa.
41. gāvām śatasahasram ca grāmāṇām ca śatam param
sakuṇḍalāḥ śubhācārāḥ bhāryāḥ kanyāḥ ca ṣoḍaśa

41. One hundred thousand cows, and more than a hundred villages, along with sixteen wives and maidens, adorned with earrings and of virtuous character.
हेमवर्णाः सुनासोरूः शशिसौम्याननाः स्त्रियः ।
सर्वाभरणसंपन्ना संपन्नाः कुलजातिभिः ॥४२॥
42. hemavarṇāḥ sunāsorūḥ śaśisaumyānanāḥ striyaḥ ,
sarvābharaṇasaṃpannā saṃpannāḥ kulajātibhiḥ.

42. Women of golden complexion, with beautiful noses and thighs, and serene faces like the moon, endowed with all ornaments, and distinguished by noble family and lineage.
निशम्य रामागमनं नृपात्मजः कपिप्रवीरस्य तदाद्भुतोपमम् ।
प्रहर्षितो रामदिदृक्षयाभवत् पुनश्च हर्षादिदमब्रवीद्वचः ॥४३॥
43. niśamya rāmāgamanaṃ nṛpātmajaḥ kapipravīrasya tadādbhutopamam ,
praharṣito rāmadidṛkṣayābhavat punaśca harṣādidamabravīdvacaḥ.

43. Upon hearing the astonishing news of Rāma's arrival from the great monkey warrior (Hanuman), the prince (Sugriva) became exceedingly delighted with the eagerness to see Rāma. And again, out of joy, he spoke these words.
