तस्य तद्वचनं श्रुत्वा दशग्रीवो महाबलः ।
देशकालहितं वाक्यं भ्रातुरुत्तममब्रवीत् ॥१॥
1. tasya tadvacanaṃ śrutvā daśagrīvo mahābalaḥ ,

1. Having heard his words, the mighty Daśagrīva (Ravana) spoke his brother's excellent and appropriate statement.
सम्यगुक्तं हि भवता दूतवध्या विगर्हिता ।
अवश्यं तु वधादन्यः क्रियतामस्य निग्रहः ॥२॥
2. samyaguktaṃ hi bhavatā dūtavadhyā vigarhitā ,
avaśyaṃ tu vadhādanyaḥ kriyatāmasya nigrahaḥ.
2. samyak uktam hi bhavatā dūtavadhyā vigarhitā
avaśyam tu vadhāt anyaḥ kriyatām asya nigrahaḥ
2. hi bhavatā samyak uktam,
(yat) dūtavadhyā vigarhitā (iti) tu avaśyam asya vadhāt anyaḥ nigrahaḥ kriyatām
2. Indeed, it has been rightly said by you that the killing of a messenger is despicable. But certainly, some punishment other than death should be carried out for him.
कपीनां किल लाङ्गूलमिष्टं भवति भूषणम् ।
तदस्य दीप्यतां शीघ्रं तेन दग्धेन गच्छतु ॥३॥
3. kapīnāṃ kila lāṅgūlamiṣṭaṃ bhavati bhūṣaṇam ,
tadasya dīpyatāṃ śīghraṃ tena dagdhena gacchatu.

tat asya dīpyatām śīghram tena dagdhena gacchatu

3. Indeed, for monkeys, the tail is considered a cherished ornament. Therefore, let his [Hanumān's] tail be quickly set ablaze, and let him depart with it burnt.
ततः पश्यन्त्विमं दीनमङ्गवैरूप्यकर्शितम् ।
समित्रा ज्ञातयः सर्वे बान्धवाः ससुहृज्जनाः ॥४॥
4. tataḥ paśyantvimaṃ dīnamaṅgavairūpyakarśitam ,
samitrā jñātayaḥ sarve bāndhavāḥ sasuhṛjjanāḥ.
4. tataḥ paśyantu imam dīnam aṅgavarūpyakarśitam
samitrāḥ jñātayaḥ sarve bāndhavāḥ sasuhṛjjanāḥ

4. Then, let all his relatives and kinsmen, together with their friends and well-wishers, behold this miserable one, weakened by bodily disfigurement.
आज्ञापयद् राक्षसेन्द्रः पुरं सर्वं सचत्वरम् ।
लाङ्गूलेन प्रदीप्तेन रक्षोभिः परिणीयताम् ॥५॥
5. ājñāpayad rākṣasendraḥ puraṃ sarvaṃ sacatvaram ,
lāṅgūlena pradīptena rakṣobhiḥ pariṇīyatām.

5. The king of the rākṣasas commanded that the entire city, including its squares, be paraded by the rākṣasas with [Hanumān's] blazing tail.
तस्य तद्वचनं श्रुत्वा राक्षसाः कोपकर्कशाः ।
वेष्टन्ते तस्य लाङ्गूलं जीर्णैः कार्पासिकैः पटैः ॥६॥
6. tasya tadvacanaṃ śrutvā rākṣasāḥ kopakarkaśāḥ ,
veṣṭante tasya lāṅgūlaṃ jīrṇaiḥ kārpāsikaiḥ paṭaiḥ.

6. Having heard that command of his, the rākṣasas, who were stern due to anger, wrapped his [Hanumān's] tail with old cotton rags.
संवेष्ट्यमाने लाङ्गूले व्यवर्धत महाकपिः ।
शुष्कमिन्धनमासाद्य वनेष्विव हुताशनः ॥७॥
7. saṃveṣṭyamāne lāṅgūle vyavardhata mahākapiḥ ,
śuṣkamindhanamāsādya vaneṣviva hutāśanaḥ.
7. saṃveṣṭyamāne lāṅgūle vyavardhata mahākapiḥ
śuṣkam indhanam āsādya vaneṣu iva hutāśanaḥ

7. As his tail was being wrapped, the great monkey (mahākapi) grew, just like a fire in the forests increases upon finding dry fuel.
तैलेन परिषिच्याथ ते
ऽग्निं तत्रावपातयन् ॥८॥
8. tailena pariṣicyātha
te'gniṃ tatrāvapātayan.

8. Then, after sprinkling it with oil, they applied fire there.
लाङ्गूलेन प्रदीप्तेन राक्षसांस्तानपातयत् ।
रोषामर्षपरीतात्मा बालसूर्यसमाननः ॥९॥
9. lāṅgūlena pradīptena rākṣasāṃstānapātayat ,
roṣāmarṣaparītātmā bālasūryasamānanaḥ.

9. With his blazing tail, he struck down those Rākṣasas. His inner self (ātman) was filled with rage and indignation, and his face shone like the rising sun.
स भूयः संगतैः क्रूरै राकसैर्हरिसत्तमः ।
निबद्धः कृतवान् वीरस्तत्कालसदृशीं मतिम् ॥१०॥
10. sa bhūyaḥ saṃgataiḥ krūrai rākasairharisattamaḥ ,
nibaddhaḥ kṛtavān vīrastatkālasadṛśīṃ matim.
10. sa bhūyaḥ saṃgataiḥ krūraiḥ rākṣasaiḥ harisattamaḥ
nibaddhaḥ kṛtavān vīraḥ tatkālasadṛśīm matim
10. saḥ harisattamaḥ vīraḥ bhūyaḥ saṃgataiḥ krūraiḥ
rākṣasaiḥ nibaddhaḥ tatkālasadṛśīm matim kṛtavān
10. Although he, the supreme monkey (harisattama), was again bound by the cruel Rākṣasas, the hero devised a plan fitting for that very moment.
कामं खलु न मे शक्ता निबधस्यापि राक्षसाः ।
छित्त्वा पाशान् समुत्पत्य हन्यामहमिमान्पुनः ॥११॥
11. kāmaṃ khalu na me śaktā nibadhasyāpi rākṣasāḥ ,
chittvā pāśān samutpatya hanyāmahamimānpunaḥ.
11. kāmam khalu na me śaktā nibadhasya api rākṣasāḥ
chittvā pāśān samutpatya hanyām aham imān punaḥ
11. kāmam khalu rākṣasāḥ nibadhasya api me na śaktāḥ
pāśān chittvā samutpatya aham imān punaḥ hanyām
11. Even if the (rākṣasas) bind me, they are certainly not capable of holding me. I would cut these bonds, leap up, and kill them again.
सर्वेषामेव पर्याप्तो राक्षसानामहं युधि ।
किं तु रामस्य प्रीत्यर्थं विषहिष्ये ऽहमीदृशम् ॥१२॥
12. sarveṣāmeva paryāpto rākṣasānāmahaṃ yudhi ,
kiṃ tu rāmasya prītyarthaṃ viṣahiṣye'hamīdṛśam.
12. sarveṣām eva paryāptaḥ rākṣasānām aham yudhi
kim tu rāmasya prītyartham viṣahiṣye aham īdṛśam
12. aham sarveṣām rākṣasānām eva yudhi paryāptaḥ
kim tu rāmasya prītyartham aham īdṛśam viṣahiṣye
12. Indeed, I am sufficient in battle for all the (rākṣasas). However, for the satisfaction of Rāma, I will endure this kind of treatment.
लङ्का चरयितव्या मे पुनरेव भवेदिति ।
रात्रौ न हि सुदृष्टा मे दुर्गकर्मविधानतः ।
अवश्यमेव द्रष्टव्या मया लङ्का निशाक्षये ॥१३॥
13. laṅkā carayitavyā me punareva bhavediti ,
rātrau na hi sudṛṣṭā me durgakarmavidhānataḥ ,
avaśyameva draṣṭavyā mayā laṅkā niśākṣaye.
13. laṅkā carayitavyā me punaḥ eva
bhavet iti rātrau na hi sudṛṣṭā me
durgakarmavidhānataḥ avaśyam
eva draṣṭavyā mayā laṅkā niśākṣaye
13. laṅkā me punaḥ eva carayitavyā

13. Lankā must be thoroughly surveyed by me once again, so that it might be [fully understood]. At night, due to the layout of its fortifications, it was not well-seen by me. Therefore, Lankā must certainly be observed by me at the end of the night (dawn).
कामं बन्धैश्च मे भूयः पुच्छस्योद्दीपनेन च ।
पीडां कुर्वन्तु रक्षांसि न मे ऽस्ति मनसः श्रमः ॥१४॥
14. kāmaṃ bandhaiśca me bhūyaḥ pucchasyoddīpanena ca ,
pīḍāṃ kurvantu rakṣāṃsi na me'sti manasaḥ śramaḥ.
14. kāmam bandhaiḥ ca me bhūyaḥ pucchasya uddīpanena ca
pīḍām kurvantu rakṣāṃsi na me asti manasaḥ śramaḥ
14. kāmam rakṣāṃsi me bandhaiḥ ca pucchasya uddīpanena
ca bhūyaḥ pīḍām kurvantu me manasaḥ śramaḥ na asti
14. Let the (rakṣasas) certainly inflict suffering upon me with bonds and again with the burning of my tail; my mind feels no weariness.
ततस्ते संवृताकारं सत्त्ववन्तं महाकपिम् ।
परिगृह्य ययुर्हृष्टा राक्षसाः कपिकुञ्जरम् ॥१५॥
15. tataste saṃvṛtākāraṃ sattvavantaṃ mahākapim ,
parigṛhya yayurhṛṣṭā rākṣasāḥ kapikuñjaram.
15. tataḥ te saṃvṛtākāram sattvavantam mahākapim
parigṛhya yayuḥ hṛṣṭāḥ rākṣasāḥ kapikuñjaram
15. tataḥ hṛṣṭāḥ rākṣasāḥ saṃvṛtākāram sattvavantam
mahākapim kapikuñjaram parigṛhya yayuḥ
15. Then, those joyful rākṣasas, having seized the mighty monkey (mahākapim), who possessed great strength (sattva) and whose form was now constrained, carried away the excellent monkey (kapikuñjaram).
शङ्खभेरीनिनादैस्तैर्घोषयन्तः स्वकर्मभिः ।
राक्षसाः क्रूरकर्माणश्चारयन्ति स्म तां पुरीम् ॥१६॥
16. śaṅkhabherīninādaistairghoṣayantaḥ svakarmabhiḥ ,
rākṣasāḥ krūrakarmāṇaścārayanti sma tāṃ purīm.
16. śaṅkhabherīninādaiḥ taiḥ ghoṣayantaḥ svakarmabhiḥ
rākṣasāḥ krūrakarmāṇaḥ cārayanti sma tām purīm

16. The rākṣasas, who performed cruel deeds, paraded him through that city (purīm), loudly proclaiming their own actions (karma) with the sounds of conches and kettle-drums.
हनुमांश्चारयामास राक्षसानां महापुरीम् ।
अथापश्यद्विमानानि विचित्राणि महाकपिः ॥१७॥
17. hanumāṃścārayāmāsa rākṣasānāṃ mahāpurīm ,
athāpaśyadvimānāni vicitrāṇi mahākapiḥ.
17. hanumān cārayāmāsa rākṣasānām mahāpurīm
atha apaśyat vimānāni vicitrāṇi mahākapiḥ

17. Hanuman was paraded through the great city of the rākṣasas. Then, the mighty monkey (mahākapiḥ) saw various wonderful aerial chariots (vimāna).
संवृतान्भूमिभागांश्च सुविभक्तांश्च चत्वरान् ।
रथ्याश्च गृहसंबाधाः कपिः शृङ्गाटकानि च ॥१८॥
18. saṃvṛtānbhūmibhāgāṃśca suvibhaktāṃśca catvarān ,
rathyāśca gṛhasaṃbādhāḥ kapiḥ śṛṅgāṭakāni ca.
18. saṃvṛtān bhūmibhāgān ca suvibhaktān ca catvarān
rathyāḥ ca gṛhasaṃbādhāḥ kapiḥ śṛṅgāṭakāni ca
18. kapiḥ saṃvṛtān bhūmibhāgān ca suvibhaktān ca
catvarān gṛhasaṃbādhāḥ rathyāḥ ca śṛṅgāṭakāni ca
18. The monkey (kapiḥ) saw enclosed plots of land (bhūmibhāga), well-arranged squares (catvara), streets crowded with houses, and crossroads (śṛṅgāṭaka).
चत्वरेषु चतुष्केषु राजमार्गे तथैव च ।
घोषयन्ति कपिं सर्वे चारीक इति राक्षसाः ॥१९॥
19. catvareṣu catuṣkeṣu rājamārge tathaiva ca ,
ghoṣayanti kapiṃ sarve cārīka iti rākṣasāḥ.
19. catvareṣu catuṣkeṣu rājamārge tathā eva ca
ghoṣayanti kapim sarve cārīka iti rākṣasāḥ
19. rākṣasāḥ sarve catvareṣu catuṣkeṣu rājamārge
tathā eva ca kapim cārīka iti ghoṣayanti
19. In the public squares, at the crossroads, and similarly on the royal highway, all the demons proclaimed the monkey to be a spy.
दीप्यमाने ततस्तस्य लाङ्गूलाग्रे हनूमतः ।
राक्षस्यस्ता विरूपाक्ष्यः शंसुर्देव्यास्तदप्रियम् ॥२०॥
20. dīpyamāne tatastasya lāṅgūlāgre hanūmataḥ ,
rākṣasyastā virūpākṣyaḥ śaṃsurdevyāstadapriyam.
20. dīpyamāne tataḥ tasya lāṅgūlāgre hanūmataḥ
rākṣasyaḥ tāḥ virūpākṣyaḥ śaṃsuḥ devyāḥ tat apriyam
20. tataḥ tāḥ virūpākṣyaḥ rākṣasyaḥ hanūmataḥ tasya
lāṅgūlāgre dīpyamāne devyāḥ tat apriyam śaṃsuḥ
20. Then, while Hanumān's tail-tip was burning, those hideous-eyed demonesses reported that unpleasant news to the goddess (devī) Sītā.
यस्त्वया कृतसंवादः सीते ताम्रमुखः कपिः ।
लाङ्गूलेन प्रदीप्तेन स एष परिणीयते ॥२१॥
21. yastvayā kṛtasaṃvādaḥ sīte tāmramukhaḥ kapiḥ ,
lāṅgūlena pradīptena sa eṣa pariṇīyate.
21. yaḥ tvayā kṛtasaṃvādaḥ sīte tāmramukhaḥ kapiḥ
lāṅgūlena pradīptena saḥ eṣaḥ pariṇīyate
21. sīte yaḥ tvayā kṛtasaṃvādaḥ tāmramukhaḥ kapiḥ
saḥ eṣaḥ pradīptena lāṅgūlena pariṇīyate
21. O Sītā, this is that red-faced monkey with whom you conversed; he is being paraded around with his tail brightly burning.
श्रुत्वा तद्वचनं क्रूरमात्मापहरणोपमम् ।
वैदेही शोकसंतप्ता हुताशनमुपागमत् ॥२२॥
22. śrutvā tadvacanaṃ krūramātmāpaharaṇopamam ,
vaidehī śokasaṃtaptā hutāśanamupāgamat.

vaidehī śokasaṃtaptā hutāśanam upāgamat

22. Hearing those cruel words, which were comparable to her own abduction, Sītā (vaidehī), tormented by grief, approached the fire.
मङ्गलाभिमुखी तस्य सा तदासीन्महाकपेः ।
उपतस्थे विशालाक्षी प्रयता हव्यवाहनम् ॥२३॥
23. maṅgalābhimukhī tasya sā tadāsīnmahākapeḥ ,
upatasthe viśālākṣī prayatā havyavāhanam.
23. maṅgalābhimukhī tasya sā tadā āsīt mahākaper
upatasthe viśālākṣī prayatā havyavāhanam
23. Then, she (Sita) was auspiciously disposed towards that great monkey (Hanuman). The wide-eyed, self-controlled (Sita) approached the fire god (havyavāhana).
यद्यस्ति पतिशुश्रूषा यद्यस्ति चरितं तपः ।
यदि चास्त्येकपत्नीत्वं शीतो भव हनूमतः ॥२४॥
24. yadyasti patiśuśrūṣā yadyasti caritaṃ tapaḥ ,
yadi cāstyekapatnītvaṃ śīto bhava hanūmataḥ.
24. yadi asti patiśuśrūṣā yadi asti caritam tapaḥ
yadi ca asti ekapatnītvam śītaḥ bhava hanūmataḥ
24. If there is devotion to my husband, if asceticism (tapas) has been practiced by me, and if there is the state of being solely devoted to one husband (ekapatnītva), then may you become cool for Hanuman.
यदि कश्चिदनुक्रोशस्तस्य मय्यस्ति धीमतः ।
यदि वा भाग्यशेषं मे शीतो भव हनूमतः ॥२५॥
25. yadi kaścidanukrośastasya mayyasti dhīmataḥ ,
yadi vā bhāgyaśeṣaṃ me śīto bhava hanūmataḥ.
25. yadi kaścit anukrośaḥ tasya mayi asti dhīmataḥ
yadi vā bhāgyaśeṣam me śītaḥ bhava hanūmataḥ
25. If that intelligent (dhīmat) Rama has any compassion for me, or if any part of my good fortune (bhāgya) still remains, then may you become cool for Hanuman.
यदि मां वृत्तसंपन्नां तत्समागमलालसाम् ।
स विजानाति धर्मात्मा शीतो भव हनूमतः ॥२६॥
26. yadi māṃ vṛttasaṃpannāṃ tatsamāgamalālasām ,
sa vijānāti dharmātmā śīto bhava hanūmataḥ.
26. yadi mām vṛttasampannām tatsamāgamalālasām
saḥ vijānāti dharmātmā śītaḥ bhava hanūmataḥ
26. If that virtuous one (Rama), whose very nature (dharma) is righteousness, knows me as one endowed with good conduct and deeply longing for reunion with him, then may you become cool for Hanuman.
यदि मां तारयत्यार्यः सुग्रीवः सत्यसंगरः ।
अस्माद्दुःखान्महाबाहुः शीतो भव हनूमतः ॥२७॥
27. yadi māṃ tārayatyāryaḥ sugrīvaḥ satyasaṃgaraḥ ,
asmādduḥkhānmahābāhuḥ śīto bhava hanūmataḥ.
27. yadi mām tārayati āryaḥ sugrīvaḥ satyasaṅgaraḥ
asmāt duḥkhāt mahābāhuḥ śītaḥ bhava hanūmataḥ
27. yadi āryaḥ mahābāhuḥ satyasaṅgaraḥ sugrīvaḥ mām asmāt duḥkhāt tārayati,
śītaḥ bhava hanūmataḥ
27. If the noble, mighty-armed Sugriva, who is true to his pledge, delivers me from this suffering, then (this fire is) cool to Hanuman.
ततस्तीक्ष्णार्चिरव्यग्रः प्रदक्षिणशिखो ऽनलः ।
जज्वाल मृगशावाक्ष्याः शंसन्निव शिवं कपेः ॥२८॥
28. tatastīkṣṇārciravyagraḥ pradakṣiṇaśikho'nalaḥ ,
jajvāla mṛgaśāvākṣyāḥ śaṃsanniva śivaṃ kapeḥ.
28. tataḥ tīkṣṇārciḥ avyagraḥ pradakṣiṇaśikhaḥ analaḥ
jajvāla mṛgaśāvākṣyāḥ śaṁsan iva śivam kapeḥ
28. tataḥ tīkṣṇārciḥ avyagraḥ pradakṣiṇaśikhaḥ analaḥ
mṛgaśāvākṣyāḥ kapeḥ śivam śaṁsan iva jajvāla
28. Thereafter, the fire, with its sharp, steady, and clockwise-turning flames, blazed, as if announcing auspiciousness for the fawn-eyed one (Sita) and the monkey (Hanuman).
दह्यमाने च लाङ्गूले चिन्तयामास वानरः ।
प्रदीप्तो ऽग्निरयं कस्मान्न मां दहति सर्वतः ॥२९॥
29. dahyamāne ca lāṅgūle cintayāmāsa vānaraḥ ,
pradīpto'gnirayaṃ kasmānna māṃ dahati sarvataḥ.
29. dahyamāne ca lāṅgūle cintayāmāsa vānaraḥ
pradīptaḥ agniḥ ayam kasmāt na mām dahati sarvataḥ
29. ca lāṅgūle dahyamāne vānaraḥ cintayāmāsa: "ayam
pradīptaḥ agniḥ mām sarvataḥ kasmāt na dahati?"
29. And while his tail was being consumed by fire, the monkey (Hanuman) pondered: "Why does this blazing fire not burn me completely?"
दृश्यते च महाज्वालः करोति च न मे रुजम् ।
शिशिरस्येव संपातो लाङ्गूलाग्रे प्रतिष्ठितः ॥३०॥
30. dṛśyate ca mahājvālaḥ karoti ca na me rujam ,
śiśirasyeva saṃpāto lāṅgūlāgre pratiṣṭhitaḥ.
30. dṛśyate ca mahājvālaḥ karoti ca na me rujam
śiśirasya iva saṁpātaḥ lāṅgūlāgre pratiṣṭhitaḥ
30. ca mahājvālaḥ dṛśyate,
ca me rujam na karoti.
(ayam) lāṅgūlāgre śiśirasya iva saṁpātaḥ pratiṣṭhitaḥ
30. And it appears with great flames, yet it causes me no pain. It rests upon the tip of my tail as if it were a cool touch.
अथ वा तदिदं व्यक्तं यद्दृष्टं प्लवता मया ।
रामप्रभावादाश्चर्यं पर्वतः सरितां पतौ ॥३१॥
31. atha vā tadidaṃ vyaktaṃ yaddṛṣṭaṃ plavatā mayā ,
rāmaprabhāvādāścaryaṃ parvataḥ saritāṃ patau.
31. atha vā tat idam vyaktam yat dṛṣṭam plavatā mayā
rāmaprabhāvāt āścaryam parvataḥ saritām patau
31. atha vā mayā plavatā saritām patau yat dṛṣṭam

31. Or rather, this visible wonder, which I saw while swimming - a mountain [rising] in the lord of rivers (ocean) - was truly astonishing, brought about by the power of Rāma.
यदि तावत् समुद्रस्य मैनाकस्य च धीमथ ।
रामार्थं संभ्रमस्तादृक्किमग्निर्न करिष्यति ॥३२॥
32. yadi tāvat samudrasya mainākasya ca dhīmatha ,
rāmārthaṃ saṃbhramastādṛkkimagnirna kariṣyati.

32. O intelligent one, if such a great endeavor was undertaken by the ocean and Maināka for Rāma, then what will Agni (the fire god) not accomplish?
सीतायाश्चानृशंस्येन तेजसा राघवस्य च ।
पितुश्च मम सख्येन न मां दहति पावकः ॥३३॥
33. sītāyāścānṛśaṃsyena tejasā rāghavasya ca ,
pituśca mama sakhyena na māṃ dahati pāvakaḥ.
33. sītāyāḥ ca anṛśaṃsyena tejasā rāghavasya ca
pituḥ ca mama sakhyena na mām dahati pāvakaḥ
33. sītāyāḥ anṛśaṃsyena ca rāghavasya tejasā ca

33. Due to Sītā's compassion, Rāghava's spiritual power (tejas), and the friendship of my father, the fire (pāvaka) does not burn me.
भूयः स चिन्तयामास मुहूर्तं कपिकुञ्जरः ।
उत्पपाताथ वेगेन ननाद च महाकपिः ॥३४॥
34. bhūyaḥ sa cintayāmāsa muhūrtaṃ kapikuñjaraḥ ,
utpapātātha vegena nanāda ca mahākapiḥ.

utpapāta atha vegena nanāda ca mahākapiḥ

34. Again, that excellent monkey (kapi-kuñjara) pondered for a moment. Then, the great monkey (mahākapi) swiftly sprang up and roared.
पुरद्वारं ततः श्रीमाञ् शैलशृङ्गमिवोन्नतम् ।
विभक्तरक्षःसंबाधमाससादानिलात्मजः ॥३५॥
35. puradvāraṃ tataḥ śrīmāñ śailaśṛṅgamivonnatam ,
vibhaktarakṣaḥsaṃbādhamāsasādānilātmajaḥ.
35. pura-dvāram tataḥ śrīmān śaila-śṛṅgam iva unnatam
vibhakta-rakṣaḥ-saṃbādham āsasāda anila-ātmajaḥ
35. tataḥ śrīmān anila-ātmajaḥ unnatam śaila-śṛṅgam
iva vibhakta-rakṣaḥ-saṃbādham pura-dvāram āsasāda
35. Then, the glorious son of the wind, Hanumān, reached the city gate, which was lofty like a mountain peak, its throngs of guards having been dispersed.
स भूत्वा शैलसंकाशः क्षणेन पुनरात्मवान् ।
ह्रस्वतां परमां प्राप्तो बन्धनान्यवशातयत् ॥३६॥
36. sa bhūtvā śailasaṃkāśaḥ kṣaṇena punarātmavān ,
hrasvatāṃ paramāṃ prāpto bandhanānyavaśātayat.
36. saḥ bhūtvā śaila-saṃkāśaḥ kṣaṇena punaḥ ātma-vān
hrasvatām paramām prāptaḥ bandhanāni avaśātayat
36. saḥ śaila-saṃkāśaḥ bhūtvā,
punaḥ ātma-vān (san) kṣaṇena paramām hrasvatām prāptaḥ (san) bandhanāni avaśātayat
36. Having briefly become mountain-like, he then instantly, regaining his composure, attained extreme shortness and severed his bonds.
विमुक्तश्चाभवच्छ्रीमान्पुनः पर्वतसंनिभः ।
वीक्षमाणश्च ददृशे परिघं तोरणाश्रितम् ॥३७॥
37. vimuktaścābhavacchrīmānpunaḥ parvatasaṃnibhaḥ ,
vīkṣamāṇaśca dadṛśe parighaṃ toraṇāśritam.
37. vimuktaḥ ca abhavat śrīmān punaḥ parvata-saṃnibhaḥ
vīkṣamāṇaḥ ca dadṛśe parigham toraṇa-āśritam
37. ca vimuktaḥ śrīmān punaḥ parvata-saṃnibhaḥ abhavat.
ca vīkṣamāṇaḥ (san) toraṇa-āśritam parigham dadṛśe.
37. And the glorious one, once liberated, again became mountain-like. Gazing around, he saw a heavy bar placed on the archway.
स तं गृह्य महाबाहुः कालायसपरिष्कृतम् ।
रक्षिणस्तान्पुनः सर्वान् सूदयामास मारुतिः ॥३८॥
38. sa taṃ gṛhya mahābāhuḥ kālāyasapariṣkṛtam ,
rakṣiṇastānpunaḥ sarvān sūdayāmāsa mārutiḥ.
38. saḥ tam gṛhya mahā-bāhuḥ kāla-ayasa-pariṣkṛtam
rakṣiṇaḥ tān punaḥ sarvān sūdayāmāsa mārutiḥ
38. tataḥ mahā-bāhuḥ mārutiḥ kāla-ayasa-pariṣkṛtam tam (parigham) gṛhya,
punaḥ tān sarvān rakṣiṇaḥ sūdayāmāsa
38. Then, the mighty-armed Māruti, seizing that iron bar, which was entirely made of black iron, again destroyed all those guards.
स तान्निहत्वा रणचण्डविक्रमः समीक्षमाणः पुनरेव लङ्काम् ।
प्रदीप्तलाङ्गूलकृतार्चिमाली प्रकाशतादित्य इवांशुमाली ॥३९॥
39. sa tānnihatvā raṇacaṇḍavikramaḥ samīkṣamāṇaḥ punareva laṅkām ,
pradīptalāṅgūlakṛtārcimālī prakāśatāditya ivāṃśumālī.

39. With valor fierce in battle, he, having killed those demons, looked once again at Laṅkā. With his blazing tail creating a garland of flames, he shone like the sun, the radiant one.
