अथ तस्यामवस्थायां लक्ष्मणं रावणानुजः ।
परेषामहितं वाक्यमर्थसाधकमब्रवीत् ॥१॥
1. atha tasyāmavasthāyāṃ lakṣmaṇaṃ rāvaṇānujaḥ ,

1. Then, in that situation, Rāvaṇa's younger brother spoke to Lakṣmaṇa words that were harmful to the enemies (pareṣām ahitam) but conducive to his own purpose (artha-sādhakam).
अस्यानीकस्य महतो भेदने यतलक्ष्मण ।
राक्षसेन्द्रसुतो ऽप्यत्र भिन्ने दृश्यो भविष्यति ॥२॥
2. asyānīkasya mahato bhedane yatalakṣmaṇa ,
rākṣasendrasuto'pyatra bhinne dṛśyo bhaviṣyati.
2. yata lakṣmaṇa asya anīkasya mahataḥ bhedane
rākṣasendrasutaḥ api atra bhinne dṛśyaḥ bhaviṣyati
2. lakṣmaṇa asya mahataḥ anīkasya bhedane yata.

2. O Lakshmana, exert yourself in breaking through this great army. Here, even the son of the king of rākṣasas will be seen defeated.
स त्वमिन्द्राशनिप्रख्यैः शरैरवकिरन्परान् ।
अभिद्रवाशु यावद्वै नैतत् कर्म समाप्यते ॥३॥
3. sa tvamindrāśaniprakhyaiḥ śarairavakiranparān ,
abhidravāśu yāvadvai naitat karma samāpyate.
3. sa tvam indrāśaniprakhyaiḥ śaraiḥ avakiran parān
abhidrava āśu yāvat vai na etat karma samāpyate
3. sa tvam indrāśaniprakhyaiḥ śaraiḥ parān avakiran āśu abhidrava,

3. You, showering enemies with arrows resembling Indra's thunderbolt, attack quickly, lest this ritual (karma) be completed.
जहि वीरदुरात्मानं मायापरमधार्मिकम् ।
रावणिं क्रूरकर्माणं सर्वलोकभयावहम् ॥४॥
4. jahi vīradurātmānaṃ māyāparamadhārmikam ,
rāvaṇiṃ krūrakarmāṇaṃ sarvalokabhayāvaham.
4. jahi vīra durātmānam māyāparamadhārmikam
rāvaṇim krūrakarmāṇam sarvalokabhayāvaham
4. vīra,
durātmānam māyāparamadhārmikam krūrakarmāṇam sarvalokabhayāvaham rāvaṇim jahi.
4. O hero, strike down that evil-minded son of Rāvaṇa, who, though possessing great illusion (māyā), appears supremely righteous, whose actions (karma) are cruel, and who brings fear to all the worlds.
विभीषणवचः श्रुत्वा लक्ष्मणः शुभलक्षणः ।
ववर्ष शरवर्षाणि राक्षसेन्द्रसुतं प्रति ॥५॥
5. vibhīṣaṇavacaḥ śrutvā lakṣmaṇaḥ śubhalakṣaṇaḥ ,
vavarṣa śaravarṣāṇi rākṣasendrasutaṃ prati.

5. Upon hearing Vibhīṣaṇa's words, Lakshmana, who was endowed with auspicious marks, showered arrows upon the son of the king of rākṣasas (Indrajit).
ऋक्षाः शाखामृगाश्चैव द्रुमाद्रिवरयोधिनः ।
अभ्यधावन्त सहितास्तदनीकमवस्थितम् ॥६॥
6. ṛkṣāḥ śākhāmṛgāścaiva drumādrivarayodhinaḥ ,
abhyadhāvanta sahitāstadanīkamavasthitam.
6. ṛkṣāḥ śākhāmṛgāḥ ca eva drumādrivarayodhinaḥ
abhyadhāvanta sahitāḥ tat anīkam avasthitam

6. The bears and monkeys, formidable fighters using trees and mighty mountains, collectively charged towards that stationed army.
राक्षसाश्च शितैर्बाणैरसिभिः शक्तितोमरैः ।
उद्यतैः समवर्तन्त कपिसैन्यजिघांसवः ॥७॥
7. rākṣasāśca śitairbāṇairasibhiḥ śaktitomaraiḥ ,
udyataiḥ samavartanta kapisainyajighāṃsavaḥ.
7. rākṣasāḥ ca śitaiḥ bāṇaiḥ asibhiḥ śaktitomaraiḥ
udyataiḥ samavartanta kapisainyajighāṃsavaḥ

7. The Rākṣasas, equipped with sharp arrows, swords, spears, and javelins, stood ready, intent on destroying the monkey army.
स संप्रहारस्तुमुलः संजज्ञे कपिरक्षसाम् ।
शब्देन महता लङ्कां नादयन् वै समन्ततः ॥८॥
8. sa saṃprahārastumulaḥ saṃjajñe kapirakṣasām ,
śabdena mahatā laṅkāṃ nādayan vai samantataḥ.
8. saḥ saṃprahāraḥ tumulaḥ saṃjajñe kapirakṣasām
śabdena mahatā laṅkām nādayan vai samantataḥ

8. A tumultuous battle then ensued between the monkeys and Rākṣasas, making Laṅkā resound loudly from all directions with a great roar.
शस्त्रैर्बहुविधाकारैः शितैर्बाणैश्च पादपैः ।
उद्यतैर्गिरिशृङ्गैश्च घोरैराकाशमावृतम् ॥९॥
9. śastrairbahuvidhākāraiḥ śitairbāṇaiśca pādapaiḥ ,
udyatairgiriśṛṅgaiśca ghorairākāśamāvṛtam.
9. śastraiḥ bahuvidhākāraiḥ śitaiḥ bāṇaiḥ ca pādapaiḥ
udyataiḥ giriśṛṅgaiḥ ca ghoraiḥ ākāśam āvṛtam

pādapaiḥ udyataiḥ ghoraiḥ giriśṛṅgaiḥ ca āvṛtam
9. The sky was completely covered by various types of weapons, sharp arrows, trees, and fearsome, uplifted mountain peaks.
ते राक्षसा वानरेषु विकृताननबाहवः ।
निवेशयन्तः शस्त्राणि चक्रुस्ते सुमहद्भयम् ॥१०॥
10. te rākṣasā vānareṣu vikṛtānanabāhavaḥ ,
niveśayantaḥ śastrāṇi cakruste sumahadbhayam.
10. te rākṣasāḥ vānareṣu vikṛtānana-bāhavaḥ
niveśayantaḥ śastrāṇi cakruḥ te su-mahat bhayam
10. te vikṛtānana-bāhavaḥ rākṣasāḥ vānareṣu
śastrāṇi niveśayantaḥ su-mahat bhayam cakruḥ
10. Those rākṣasas, with their distorted faces and arms, instilled very great fear among the monkeys by thrusting their weapons into them.
तथैव सकलैर्वृक्षैर्गिरिशृङ्गैश्च वानराः ।
अभिजघ्नुर्निजघ्नुश्च समरे राक्षसर्षभान् ॥११॥
11. tathaiva sakalairvṛkṣairgiriśṛṅgaiśca vānarāḥ ,
abhijaghnurnijaghnuśca samare rākṣasarṣabhān.
11. tathā eva sakalaiḥ vṛkṣaiḥ giri-śṛṅgaiḥ ca vānarāḥ
abhijaghnuḥ nijaghnuḥ ca samare rākṣasa-ṛṣabhān
11. tathā eva vānarāḥ sakalaiḥ vṛkṣaiḥ ca giri-śṛṅgaiḥ
samare rākṣasa-ṛṣabhān abhijaghnuḥ ca nijaghnuḥ
11. In the same way, the monkeys, using all kinds of trees and mountain peaks, attacked and slew the foremost rākṣasas in battle.
ऋक्षवानरमुख्यैश्च महाकायैर्महाबलैः ।
रक्षसां वध्यमानानां महद्भयमजायत ॥१२॥
12. ṛkṣavānaramukhyaiśca mahākāyairmahābalaiḥ ,
rakṣasāṃ vadhyamānānāṃ mahadbhayamajāyata.
12. ṛkṣa-vānara-mukhyaiḥ ca mahā-kāyaiḥ mahā-balaiḥ
rakṣasām vadhyamānānām mahat bhayam ajāyata
12. mahā-kāyaiḥ mahā-balaiḥ ṛkṣa-vānara-mukhyaiḥ
ca vadhyamānānām rakṣasām mahat bhayam ajāyata
12. By the chief bears and monkeys, who were colossal and immensely powerful, great fear arose among the rākṣasas who were being slain.
स्वमनीकं विषण्णं तु श्रुत्वा शत्रुभिरर्दितम् ।
उदतिष्ठत दुर्धर्षस्तत् कर्मण्यननुष्ठिते ॥१३॥
13. svamanīkaṃ viṣaṇṇaṃ tu śrutvā śatrubhirarditam ,
udatiṣṭhata durdharṣastat karmaṇyananuṣṭhite.
13. sva-anīkam viṣaṇṇam tu śrutvā śatrubhiḥ arditam
udatiṣṭhata durdharṣaḥ tat karmaṇi ananuṣṭhite
13. tu durdharṣaḥ śatrubhiḥ arditam viṣaṇṇam sva-anīkam śrutvā,
tat karmaṇi ananuṣṭhite udatiṣṭhata
13. But having heard that his own army was dejected and tormented by the enemies, the unconquerable one (Rāvaṇa) rose up, as that task remained unaccomplished.
वृक्षान्धकारान्निष्क्रम्य जातक्रोधः स रावणिः ।
आरुरोह रथं सज्जं पूर्वयुक्तं स राक्षसः ॥१४॥
14. vṛkṣāndhakārānniṣkramya jātakrodhaḥ sa rāvaṇiḥ ,
āruroha rathaṃ sajjaṃ pūrvayuktaṃ sa rākṣasaḥ.
14. vṛkṣa andhakārāt niṣkramya jāta krodhaḥ sa rāvaṇiḥ
ārūroha ratham sajjam pūrva yuktam sa rākṣasaḥ
14. saḥ rāvaṇiḥ rākṣasaḥ vṛkṣa andhakārāt niṣkramya
jāta krodhaḥ sajjam pūrva yuktam ratham ārūroha
14. Having emerged from the darkness of the trees, that enraged son of Rāvaṇa (rāvaṇi), the demon, mounted his ready and previously yoked chariot.
स भीमकार्मुकशरः कृष्णाञ्जनचयोपमः ।
रक्तास्यनयनः क्रूरो बभौ मृत्युरिवान्तकः ॥१५॥
15. sa bhīmakārmukaśaraḥ kṛṣṇāñjanacayopamaḥ ,
raktāsyanayanaḥ krūro babhau mṛtyurivāntakaḥ.
15. sa bhīma kārmuka śaraḥ kṛṣṇa añjana caya upamaḥ
rakta āsya nayanaḥ krūraḥ babhau mṛtyuḥ iva antakaḥ
15. saḥ bhīma kārmuka śaraḥ kṛṣṇa añjana caya upamaḥ
rakta āsya nayanaḥ krūraḥ mṛtyuḥ antakaḥ iva babhau
15. He, possessing a formidable bow and arrows, and resembling a heap of black collyrium, with a blood-red mouth and eyes, appeared cruel, like death (mṛtyu) or the destroyer (antaka).
दृष्ट्वैव तु रथस्थं तं पर्यवर्तत तद्बलम् ।
रक्षसां भीमवेगानां लक्ष्मणेन युयुत्सताम् ॥१६॥
16. dṛṣṭvaiva tu rathasthaṃ taṃ paryavartata tadbalam ,
rakṣasāṃ bhīmavegānāṃ lakṣmaṇena yuyutsatām.
16. dṛṣṭvā eva tu rathastham tam pari avartata tat
balam rakṣasām bhīma vegānām lakṣmaṇena yuyutsatām
16. tu dṛṣṭvā eva taṃ rathastham lakṣmaṇena yuyutsatām
bhīma vegānām rakṣasām tat balam pari avartata
16. Just upon seeing him stationed in the chariot, that army of demons, possessing terrifying speed and eager to fight Lakṣmaṇa, turned around and rallied.
तस्मिन् काले तु हनुमानुद्यम्य सुदुरासदम् ।
धरणीधरसंकाशी महावृक्षमरिंदमः ॥१७॥
17. tasmin kāle tu hanumānudyamya sudurāsadam ,
dharaṇīdharasaṃkāśī mahāvṛkṣamariṃdamaḥ.
17. tasmin kāle tu hanumān udyamya sudurāsadam
dharaṇīdhara saṃkāśī mahāvṛkṣam arimdamaḥ
17. tu tasmin kāle arimdamaḥ hanumān dharaṇīdhara
saṃkāśī sudurāsadam mahāvṛkṣam udyamya
17. At that very moment, Hanumān, the subduer of enemies, resembling a mountain (dharaṇīdhara), having lifted up a very formidable (sudurāsadam) huge tree...
स राक्षसानां तत् सैन्यं कालाग्निरिव निर्दहन् ।
चकार बहुभिर्वृक्षैर्निःसंज्ञं युधि वानरः ॥१८॥
18. sa rākṣasānāṃ tat sainyaṃ kālāgniriva nirdahan ,
cakāra bahubhirvṛkṣairniḥsaṃjñaṃ yudhi vānaraḥ.
18. sa rākṣasānām tat sainyam kālāgniḥ iva nirdahan
cakāra bahubhiḥ vṛkṣaiḥ niḥsaṃjñam yudhi vānaraḥ
18. sa vānaraḥ kālāgniḥ iva rākṣasānām tat sainyam
nirdahan bahubhiḥ vṛkṣaiḥ yudhi niḥsaṃjñam cakāra
18. The vānara (Hanuman), consuming that army of rākṣasas like the fire of universal dissolution, rendered them senseless in battle using many trees.
विध्वंसयन्तं तरसा दृष्ट्वैव पवनात्मजम् ।
राक्षसानां सहस्राणि हनूमन्तमवाकिरन् ॥१९॥
19. vidhvaṃsayantaṃ tarasā dṛṣṭvaiva pavanātmajam ,
rākṣasānāṃ sahasrāṇi hanūmantamavākiran.
19. vidhvaṃsayantam tarasā dṛṣṭvā eva pavanātmajam
rākṣasānām sahasrāṇi hanūmantam avākiran
19. pavanātmajam tarasā vidhvaṃsayantam dṛṣṭvā

19. Just upon seeing the son of the wind (Hanuman) destroying [them] with great might, thousands of rākṣasas showered [weapons upon] Hanuman.
शितशूलधराः शूलैरसिभिश्चासिपाणयः ।
शक्तिभिः शक्तिहस्ताश्च पट्टसैः पट्टसायुधाः ॥२०॥
20. śitaśūladharāḥ śūlairasibhiścāsipāṇayaḥ ,
śaktibhiḥ śaktihastāśca paṭṭasaiḥ paṭṭasāyudhāḥ.
20. śitaśūladharāḥ śūlaiḥ asibhiḥ ca asipāṇayaḥ
śaktibhiḥ śaktihastāḥ ca paṭṭasaiḥ paṭṭasāyudhāḥ
20. śitaśūladharāḥ śūlaiḥ (praharanti);
asipāṇayaḥ ca asibhiḥ (praharanti);
śaktihastāḥ ca śaktibhiḥ (praharanti);
paṭṭasāyudhāḥ (ca) paṭṭasaiḥ (praharanti)
20. [They, the rākṣasas, attacked] carrying sharp spears, [wielding them] with spears; and with swords, [they came] with swords in hand. With śakti-javelins, [they appeared] holding śakti-javelins in their hands; and with pattiśa-blades, [they were] armed with pattiśa-blades.
परिघैश्च गदाभिश्च कुन्तैश्च शुभदर्शनैः ।
शतशश्च शतघ्नीभिरायसैरपि मुद्गरैः ॥२१॥
21. parighaiśca gadābhiśca kuntaiśca śubhadarśanaiḥ ,
śataśaśca śataghnībhirāyasairapi mudgaraiḥ.
21. parighaiḥ ca gadābhiḥ ca kuntaiḥ ca śubhadarśanaiḥ
śataśaḥ ca śataghnībhiḥ āyasaiḥ api mudgaraiḥ
21. (te praharanti) parighaiḥ ca,
gadābhiḥ ca,
śubhadarśanaiḥ kuntaiḥ ca,
śataśaḥ ca śataghnībhiḥ,
api ca āyasaiḥ mudgaraiḥ (praharanti)
21. And [they attacked] with iron clubs (parigha), and with maces (gadā), and with shining short spears (kunta). And by hundreds, with śataghnīs (weapons that kill a hundred), and also with iron mallets (mudgara).
घोरैः परशुभिश्चैव भिण्डिपालैश्च राक्षसाः ।
मुष्टिभिर्वज्रवेगैश्च तलैरशनिसंनिभैः ॥२२॥
22. ghoraiḥ paraśubhiścaiva bhiṇḍipālaiśca rākṣasāḥ ,
muṣṭibhirvajravegaiśca talairaśanisaṃnibhaiḥ.
22. ghoraiḥ paraśubhiḥ ca eva bhiṇḍipālaiḥ ca rākṣasāḥ
muṣṭibhiḥ vajravegaiḥ ca talaiḥ aśanisaṃnibhaiḥ
22. rākṣasāḥ ghoraiḥ paraśubhiḥ ca eva bhiṇḍipālaiḥ ca
muṣṭibhiḥ vajravegaiḥ ca talaiḥ aśanisaṃnibhaiḥ
22. The rākṣasas (demons) were equipped with terrible battle-axes, lances, fists of thunderbolt-like force, and palms resembling thunderbolts.
अभिजघ्नुः समासाद्य समन्तात् पर्वतोपमम् ।
तेषामपि च संक्रुद्धश्चकार कदनं महत् ॥२३॥
23. abhijaghnuḥ samāsādya samantāt parvatopamam ,
teṣāmapi ca saṃkruddhaścakāra kadanaṃ mahat.
23. abhijaghnuḥ samāsādya samantāt parvatopamam
teṣām api ca saṃkruddhaḥ cakāra kadanam mahat
23. parvatopamam samāsādya samantāt abhijaghnuḥ
teṣām api ca saṃkruddhaḥ mahat kadanam cakāra
23. Having approached (him), who was like a mountain, they attacked him from all sides. But (Hanumān), greatly enraged, also inflicted great slaughter upon them.
स ददर्श कपिश्रेष्ठमचलोपममिन्द्रजित् ।
सूदयानममित्रघ्नममित्रान्पवनात्मजम् ॥२४॥
24. sa dadarśa kapiśreṣṭhamacalopamamindrajit ,
sūdayānamamitraghnamamitrānpavanātmajam.
24. sa dadarśa kapiśreṣṭham acalopamam indrajit
sūdayānam amitraghnam amitrān pavanātmajam
24. indrajit sa amitrān sūdayānam amitraghnam
acalopamam kapiśreṣṭham pavanātmajam dadarśa
24. Indrajit saw the foremost of monkeys (kapiśreṣṭha), the son of the wind god (pavanātmaja), who was like a mountain, slaying his enemies.
स सारथिमुवाचेदं याहि यत्रैष वानरः ।
क्षयमेव हि नः कुर्याद् राक्षसानामुपेक्षितः ॥२५॥
25. sa sārathimuvācedaṃ yāhi yatraiṣa vānaraḥ ,
kṣayameva hi naḥ kuryād rākṣasānāmupekṣitaḥ.
25. sa sārathim uvāca idam yāhi yatra eṣaḥ vānaraḥ
kṣayam eva hi naḥ kuryāt rākṣasānām upekṣitaḥ
25. sa sārathim idam uvāca yāhi yatra eṣaḥ vānaraḥ
hi upekṣitaḥ naḥ rākṣasānām kṣayam eva kuryāt
25. He (Indrajit) said this to his charioteer: "Go where this monkey (vānara) is! For, if neglected, he would surely bring about the destruction of us rākṣasas."
इत्युक्तः सारथिस्तेन ययौ यत्र स मारुतिः ।
वहन्परमदुर्धर्षं स्थितमिन्द्रजितं रथे ॥२६॥
26. ityuktaḥ sārathistena yayau yatra sa mārutiḥ ,
vahanparamadurdharṣaṃ sthitamindrajitaṃ rathe.
26. iti uktaḥ sārathiḥ tena yayau yatra saḥ mārutiḥ
vahan paramadurgharṣam sthitam indrajitam rathe
26. tena iti uktaḥ sārathiḥ saḥ mārutiḥ yatra yayau,
rathae sthitam paramadurgharṣam indrajitam vahan
26. Thus instructed by Indrajit, his charioteer drove to where Hanumān was, carrying the extremely formidable Indrajit, who was positioned in his chariot.
सो ऽभ्युपेत्य शरान् खड्गान्पट्टसासिपरश्वधान् ।
अभ्यवर्षत दुर्धर्षः कपिमूर्ध्नि स राक्षसः ॥२७॥
27. so'bhyupetya śarān khaḍgānpaṭṭasāsiparaśvadhān ,
abhyavarṣata durdharṣaḥ kapimūrdhni sa rākṣasaḥ.
27. saḥ abhyupetya śarān khaḍgān paṭṭasāsiparaśvadhān
abhyavarṣata durgharṣaḥ kapimūrdhni saḥ rākṣasaḥ
27. saḥ durgharṣaḥ rākṣasaḥ abhyupetya śarān khaḍgān
paṭṭasāsiparaśvadhān kapimūrdhni abhyavarṣata
27. Having approached, that formidable demon Indrajit showered arrows, swords, javelins, and axes upon the monkey's head.
तानि शस्त्राणि घोराणि प्रतिगृह्य स मारुतिः ।
रोषेण महताविषो वाक्यं चेदमुवाच ह ॥२८॥
28. tāni śastrāṇi ghorāṇi pratigṛhya sa mārutiḥ ,
roṣeṇa mahatāviṣo vākyaṃ cedamuvāca ha.
28. tāni śastrāṇi ghorāṇi pratigṛhya saḥ mārutiḥ
roṣeṇa mahatā āviṣṭaḥ vākyam ca idam uvāca ha
28. saḥ mārutiḥ tāni ghorāṇi śastrāṇi pratigṛhya
mahatā roṣeṇa āviṣṭaḥ ca idam vākyam uvāca ha
28. Having caught those dreadful weapons, that Hanumān, overcome with great anger, then spoke these words.
युध्यस्व यदि शूरो ऽसि रावणात्मज दुर्मते ।
वायुपुत्रं समासाद्य न जीवन्प्रतियास्यसि ॥२९॥
29. yudhyasva yadi śūro'si rāvaṇātmaja durmate ,
vāyuputraṃ samāsādya na jīvanpratiyāsyasi.
29. yudhyasva yadi śūraḥ asi rāvaṇātmaja durmate
vāyuputram samāsādya na jīvan pratiyāsyasi
29. rāvaṇātmaja durmate yadi śūraḥ asi yudhyasva
vāyuputram samāsādya jīvan na pratiyāsyasi
29. O son of Rāvaṇa, O foolish one, if you are truly brave, then fight! For having encountered the son of Vayu (vāyuputra), you will not return alive.
बाहुभ्यां संप्रयुध्यस्व यदि मे द्वन्द्वमाहवे ।
वेगं सहस्व दुर्बुद्धे ततस्त्वं रक्षसां वरः ॥३०॥
30. bāhubhyāṃ saṃprayudhyasva yadi me dvandvamāhave ,
vegaṃ sahasva durbuddhe tatastvaṃ rakṣasāṃ varaḥ.
30. bāhubhyām samprayudhyasva yadi me dvandvam āhave |
vegam sahasva durbuddhe tataḥ tvam rakṣasām varaḥ
30. durbuddhe yadi me āhave dvandvam bāhubhyām
saṃprayudhyasva vegam sahasva tataḥ tvam rakṣasām varaḥ
30. O foolish one, if you desire a duel with me in battle, then fight vigorously with your arms. Endure my might; only then will you be the chief among the rākṣasas.
हनूमन्तं जिघांसन्तं समुद्यतशरासनम् ।
रावणात्मजमाचष्टे लक्ष्मणाय विभीषणः ॥३१॥
31. hanūmantaṃ jighāṃsantaṃ samudyataśarāsanam ,
rāvaṇātmajamācaṣṭe lakṣmaṇāya vibhīṣaṇaḥ.

| rāvaṇātmajam ācaṣṭe lakṣmaṇāya vibhīṣaṇaḥ
31. vibhīṣaṇaḥ lakṣmaṇāya hanūmantam jighāṃsantam

31. Vibhīṣaṇa describes to Lakṣmaṇa Rāvaṇa's son, who is intent on killing Hanūman and has his bow raised.
यस्तु वासवनिर्जेता रावणस्यात्मसंभवः ।
स एष रथमास्थाय हनूमन्तं जिघांसति ॥३२॥
32. yastu vāsavanirjetā rāvaṇasyātmasaṃbhavaḥ ,
sa eṣa rathamāsthāya hanūmantaṃ jighāṃsati.
32. yaḥ tu vāsavanirjetā rāvaṇasya ātmasambhavaḥ
| sa eṣa ratham āsthāya hanūmantam jighāṃsati
32. yaḥ tu rāvaṇasya ātmasambhavaḥ vāsavanirjetā
sa eṣa ratham āsthāya hanūmantam jighāṃsati
32. Indeed, this one is Rāvaṇa's own son (ātmasambhava), the conqueror of Vāsava (Indra). He has mounted his chariot and desires to kill Hanūman.
तमप्रतिमसंस्थानैः शरैः शत्रुविदारणैः ।
जीवितान्तकरैर्घोरैः सौमित्रे रावणिं जहि ॥३३॥
33. tamapratimasaṃsthānaiḥ śaraiḥ śatruvidāraṇaiḥ ,
jīvitāntakarairghoraiḥ saumitre rāvaṇiṃ jahi.
33. tam apratimasaṃsthānaiḥ śaraiḥ śatruvidāraṇaiḥ
| jīvitāntakaraiḥ ghoraiḥ saumitre rāvaṇim jahi
33. saumitre ! tvam tam rāvaṇim apratimasaṃsthānaiḥ
śatruvidāraṇaiḥ jīvitāntakaraiḥ ghoraiḥ śaraiḥ jahi
33. O Saumitri (son of Sumitrā), kill that son of Rāvaṇa (Rāvaṇi) with your dreadful arrows of unequalled design, which tear apart enemies and bring an end to life.
इत्येवमुक्तस्तु तदा महात्मा विभीषणेनारिविभीषणेन ।
ददर्श तं पर्वतसंनिकाशं रथस्थितं भीमबलं दुरासदम् ॥३४॥
34. ityevamuktastu tadā mahātmā vibhīṣaṇenārivibhīṣaṇena ,
dadarśa taṃ parvatasaṃnikāśaṃ rathasthitaṃ bhīmabalaṃ durāsadam.
34. iti eva uktaḥ tu tadā mahātmā vibhīṣaṇena arivibhīṣaṇena
dadarśa tam parvatasaṃnikāśam rathasthitam bhīmabalam durāsadam
34. mahātmā arivibhīṣaṇena vibhīṣaṇena iti eva uktaḥ tu tadā,
tam parvatasaṃnikāśam rathasthitam bhīmabalam durāsadam dadarśa.
34. Thus addressed by the great-souled Vibhīṣaṇa, who was a terror to his enemies, (the great-souled one, i.e., Rāma/Lakṣmaṇa) then saw that one (Rāvaṇa), who was difficult to approach, standing in his chariot, resembling a mountain, and possessing immense power.
